Anthony Weiner & Huma Abedin vs. NYC
May 29, 2013 By Joseph Klein
Anthony Weiner recently announced his intention to run for mayor of New York City. As a resident living in Manhattan, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was right on the money when he said "shame on us" if New York City voters elect Weiner as their mayor. Governor Cuomo now says he was just kidding. But even the possibility of a Weiner victory is no joke.
Weiner's foolish sexting, which brought an abrupt and disgraceful end to his congressional term, displays a serious lack of judgment that alone should disqualify him. But that is only a side show to the main problem that a Mayor Weiner would pose to the welfare of New Yorkers. His Muslim wife, Huma Abedin, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's deputy chief of staff and close confidante, is said to be the driving force behind her husband's decisionto run for the most important office of America's largest city. She even reportedly pushed someone she had previously worked with to serve as Weiner's campaign manager. If Weiner becomes mayor, Abedin will be in a position to shape her husband's policies from behind the scenes on such sensitive matters as law enforcement and city counterterrorism.
Huma Abedin has been an integral part of the Abedin family Islamist enterprise, which has links to jihadist groups. Although born in the United States, she grew up in Saudi Arabia, where her parents were recruited by Abdullah Omar Naseef (an extremist affiliated with al-Qaeda and the Muslim World League) to establish an organization known as the Institute of Muslim Minority Affairs (IMMA). The purpose of IMMA was to counter Muslim assimilation in non-Muslim societies and promote the idea of ummah, the Muslim "nation," with sharia law as its core. Huma's father founded IMMA's Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs, now run by Abedin's mother, Saleha Mahmood Abedin, who is a pro-sharia sociologist with ties to numerous Islamist organizations, including the Muslim Brotherhood.

EXCLUSIVE--SESSIONS: IMMIGRATION BILL GIVES AMNESTIED RESIDENTS 'IMMEDIATE' ACCESS TO WELFARE
by MATTHEW BOYLE 29 Apr 2013 12
The immigration bill introduced to the Senate a week and a half ago would, if passed, allow illegal immigrants to access state and local welfare benefits immediately, Breitbart News has learned. The financial impact of allowing potentially millions of immigrants onto state and local public assistance could overwhelm these programs' budgets.Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) uncovered this loophole in the bill and many others, and he will circulate a memo detailing the gaps in the bill on Tuesday. Breitbart News exclusively obtained a copy of the memo before its public release. "The Gang of Eight made a promise that illegal immigrants will not be able to access public benefits," Sessions said in a statement to Breitbart News. "We already know that, once granted green cards and ultimately citizenship, illegal immigrants will be able to access all public benefit programs at a great cost to taxpayers. We have, however, identified a number of loopholes that would allow illegal immigrants to draw public benefits even sooner than advertised." If the bill were signed into law, America's 11 million illegal immigrants would be legalized within six months, when Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano submits her border security plan to Congress. Illegal immigrants would immediately be eligible for Registered Provisional Immigrant (RPI) status, making them legal to live and work in the country. As Sessions' staff points out in the memo, "state laws frequently extend benefits to anyone 'lawfully present' in the U.S." Read more:

Please stop using Gmail. Gmail is part of Zgoogle and Google sits on the right hand of President Obama. They track everything that you do. James Rosen of Fox News used Gmail.

Google Needs Extra Time to Spy on Your Kids
It seems that Google is constantly falling afoul of conservatives, consumers, pundits, regulators and really everyone else on earth (except for the Obama campaign) for its privacy-infringing tendencies.
It got hammered for "alleged" spying in the Safarigate scandal, where it wound up agreeing to a record-breaking $22.5 million fine in connection with charges it surreptitiously tracked Apple Safari users who Google had said could opt out of tracking, and did what Google said was necessary to opt out. This spying of course enabled Google to grab data it shouldn't have had, to improve its highly profitable targeted ad business, and do it in a way that amounted to a violation of its contract with users. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

Save the 2nd Rally
This past Saturday, Gun Rights Across America held a very successful rally on Independence Mall. At its height, around 1:30 PM, nearly 400 folks celebrated the US Constitution's 2nd Amendment. (The Amendment was officially added to the Constitution in Congress Hall on December 15, 1791.)
Of course, when you consider crowd turnover, it is more than likely that several hundred additional folks stopped to listen to at least one of the speakers.
(Reminder: We are currently celebrating the 225th Anniversary year of our beloved Constitution.)
Association Commentary
As a Tea Party, we understand all too well the overwhelming problems that confront our nation. From the Benghazi Scandal to the IRS Scandal from the 844-page Immigration bill to ObamaCare, we are besieged.
Free enterprise is under direct assault--and meritocracy--that rarely mentioned
foundation of our prosperity--has nearly collapsed.
And while we have a vision for restoring our nation to greatness through smaller government, lower taxes, and less regulation--it often seems we have already lost the war.
But if that be the case, why do the battles still rage in our state and national capitols? Could it be that our Democratic Republic is clinging to life and seeking our aid?
We have been so conditioned to think that only dramatic, time consuming
actions can win the day--attending big rallies, taking lobbying trips to various capitols,
or blasting lawmakers at Town Halls.
The truth is--sometimes timely phone calls to your legislators is all that is required to defeat bad bills or pass good ones.
In addition, every legislator has at least one office in his/her district--and the doors are usually open during business hours. Visiting legislators in their local offices is just as effective as visiting them in their capitol offices.
Of course, we would also be just as proud of you if you were to have a letter-to-the-editor published as Board Member Trudy Beckshi recently did---or if you wrote a brief note to the governor or faxed a message to your legislator.
Smart, effective, timely actions can save this Republic. We request that you act on the following matters listed below.
DE, NJ, PA Legislative Alerts
In New Jersey and Delaware, we are on defense regarding 'gun control' legislation.
As we pointed out in a previous newsletter, the New Jersey Senate is expected to vote, tomorrow (Thursday, May 30), on separate bills limiting magazine capacity and banning .50-caliber weapons. Both bills have already cleared the NJ Assembly.
If you live in Jersey, please call your State Senator ASAP and urge him/her to vote no!
To find your Senator and his/her contact information, please visit:
http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/members/legsearch.asp
(The Delaware Legislature has adjourned until early June. More to follow on the Delaware Senate's expected gun vote.)
In Pennsylvania, we are on the offense. Two very important issues demand immediate attention.
The PA House has passed both an Abortion Opt Out of ObamaCare bill and a Liquor Privatization bill. The Abortion Opt Out legislation would stop taxpayer funding of abortion in the Commonwealth. Nearly 90% of Pennsylvanians oppose taxpayer funded abortion. This bill has been voted out of Senate committee and awaits a full floor vote, which could occur any day.
If you live in PA, please call your State Senator and urge him/her to pass the Abortion Opt Out bill. To find your Senator and his/her contact information, please visit:
http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/home/findyourlegislator/index.cfm?CFID=51904162&CFTOKEN=21367532
Last but not least, the Liquor Privatization bill is being held up in committee by State Senator Chuck McIlhinney (R-Bucks). Both Senator McIlhinney and Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi (R-Delaware, Chester) will decide whether the bill makes it to the Senate floor for final passage.
If you live in PA, please flood these two Senators with calls. Urge them to support the Liquor Privatization bill--and free enterprise. Call Senator McIlhinney @ 717.787.7305 and Senator Pileggi @ 717.787.4712.
US Senate Alert
While scandals are preoccupying much of Washington, the Immigration bill marches forward. The bill, now out of Committee, is headed for a Senate floor vote.
Please call your US Senators and Marco Rubio. Let them know that we cannot support an amnesty bill that grants rights and privileges to illegal residents while doing little to protect our nation's borders and safe-guard our children from terrorists posing as worthy
immigrants.
Also, call your Senators and tell them not to support the pork barrel Farm bill. Click the CATO link below to read our objections:
http://www.cato.org/blog/farm-bill-would-increase-spending-47
To reach your Senators' offices, call the Capitol Switchboard @ 202.224.3121.
DE: Senators Carper & Coons
NJ: Senators Lautenberg & Menendez
PA: Senators Casey & Toomey
US House Alert
Next, please call the Capitol Switchboard @ 202.224.3121, again, and ask to be connected to your Congressman/woman. Tell your Representative to oppose the Immigration, Internet Sales Tax, and Farm bills!
Then, use the same number to call Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor. Tell them stop all three bills!
Finally, call House Judiciary Committee Chairman, Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA). Congressman Goodlatte and his fellow Republicans on the committee
can deal a lethal blow to both the Immigration and Internet Tax bills. Tell him to bury these bills in committee!

FROM THE DIRECTOR OF GODS AND GENERALS AND GETTYSBURG COMES THE LIBERTY MOVIE OF THE YEAR
RON MAXWELL'S COPPERHEAD
For anyone who reveres and believes in the preservation of the Constitution of the United States, Copperhead is a must see this summer!
Copperhead is unlike any Civil War movie to date. It is a film of the war at home - of a family ripped apart by war, of a community driven to an appalling act of vengeance against a man who insists on exercising his right to free speech during wartime. A story of the violent passions and burning feuds that set ablaze the homefront during the Civil War, Copperhead the movie is also a timeless and deeply moving examination of the price of dissent, the place of the individual amidst the hysteria of wartime, and the terrible price of war - a cost measured not in dollars but in fractured families, broken loves, and men dead before their time.
Based on the extraordinary novel by Harold Frederic, who witnessed these conflicts firsthand as a small child, Copperhead tells the story of Abner Beech, a stubborn and righteous farmer of Upstate New York, who defies his neighbors and his government in the bloody and contentious autumn of 1862.

On Thursday, May 30, the organization Friends of Israel will celebrate its 75th anniversary of helping Jews and the Jewish State of Israel with a gala in Voorhees, N.J. We hope you will attend their reasonably priced dinner as a show of support and unity. As you will note, this Christian Zionist group began its mission 10 years before Israel was re-established. They were originally known as "The Friends of Israel Refugee Relief Committee." To this day they continue to be advocates for Israel throughout the world and lead an annual mission to Israel. Though this group is international in scope, it is based in South Jersey. Friends of Israel leadership have attended our Philadelphia ZOA Gala each year and last year we honored its immediate past executive director, William Sutter, and his wife, Annette. We see Bill (who is still quite active) and his successor, Jim Showers, at nearly every pro-Israel event in the region. They truly are, as their name indicates, "friends of Israel." Tickets are just $45. The event takes place at The Mansion on Main Street, on May 30, beginning at 5:30 p.m......... Kosher meals are available Please call me at our Office for all of the details at 610-660-9466. I hope you will be able to attend. Thank you, Steve

WITH TRADITONAL VALUES, STRONG CONVICTIONS & FAITH IN OUR CONSTITUTION, HEAR MICHELLE BACHMANN'S VISION FOR OUR NATION.
|
In 2006, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann became the first Republican woman to be elected to represent Minnesota in the U.S. House of Representatives. As a self-proclaimed "Constitutional Conservative" she is committed to fixing Washington's broken ways by advocating for America's adherence to the Constitution. As a believer in the traditional values upon which this country was founded, Bachmann consistently defends America's religious liberties and the importance of family as the first unit of government. As the federal government continues to grow under the current administration, Bachmann was honored to establish the Tea Party Caucus in July 2010. She is proud to stand with the Tea Party to call for lower taxes, renewed focus on the Constitution and smaller government.

Announcing the 2013 National Conference
& Legislative Briefing!
June 19 - 21 we will convene at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC for our fourth annual National Conference & Legislative Briefing.
And here's some really great news: This year's registration fee is only $229! Register by April 15th and you'll receive our "Early Bird" rate of just $189!
|
We also offer again this year special benefits for Patriot Eagle and Patriot sponsors. We have some exciting new wrinkles planned for this year's event, and our list of confirmed speakers already includes:
- Steven Emerson - Journalist, author, and the Executive Editor of the Investigative Project on Terrorism. A. M. Rosenthal, late-managing editor of The New York Times, described Emerson as "one of the nation's best national security correspondents."
- John Guandolo - Former FBI agent and one of America's leading authorities on the Muslim Brotherhood and its inner workings in America. Guandolo spoke at our conference in 2011 and received rave reviews from conference attendees!
- Ezra Levant - Canadian lawyer, author, newspaper columnist with Sun Media, and former publisher of the Western Standard. Hauled before a Canadian "human rights commission" because he published the Danish cartoons that satirized Muhammad, Levant's personal account of a politically correct government inquisition is something you won't want to miss!
|
The National Conference & Legislative Briefing will begin on Wed. evening, June 19th, and conclude on Friday, June 21st at noon, with additional optional training sessions Friday afternoon.
It will again feature our very popular Capitol Hill Awards Luncheon and our signature gala banquet-and of course, our Legislative Briefing, where Members of Congress will brief you on various issues and answer your questions.

2013 RedState Gathering -- Early Bird Special Dear RedStater,
We announced earlier this week that we'll be headed to New Orleans the first weekend in August for this year's RedState Gathering. As a member of our RedState family, we'd like to extend exclusive Early Bird registration and pricing to you (just use the promo code EARLYBIRD on the registration page).
The 2013 RedState Gathering will be held August 2-3 at the Westin Canal Place in New Orleans, LA. We'll have two full days of speakers and activities and you can expect a good mix of elected officials and potential candidates for the 2014 cycle (we'll keep you informed as additions are made).
The Gathering has always been a unique event, in that all speakers, even the most in-demand and influential, pay their own way and make their own travel arrangements. This helps keep our costs low, a savings we are happy to pass along to our conference attendees. Additionally, we strive to get you up close to the speakers, ask them to take your questions, and we take care of nearly all your meals during the conference. Bottom line: fewer frills, more thrills and access.
We are thrilled to once again be joined by Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, who will be hosting a reception for all attendees and appear at the Gathering podium as a keynote speaker. A huge hit in 2012, we're looking forward to Gov. Jindal playing an even larger role this year as he welcomes us to his home state.
Now, more than ever, true conservative activists must come together to exchange ideas and strategize for the future. That's what this year's Gathering is all about. We hope you'll join us.
Click here to learn more and register.
Sincerely,
 Erick Erickson Editor-in-Chief, RedState
P.S. Don't delay! You'll receive 20% off if you register today - just use the promo code EARLYBIRD. Click here.

From a trusted friend:
As some of you may know, I am associated with Coventry Christian Schools as a parent of a graduate (2010) and as member of the Board of Trustees. Last October we spent a wonderful evening honoring Mark Niehls at our revitalized Founder's Dinner and celebrated our shared heritage in the remarkable community that is Coventry Christian Schools. Our vision for future Founder's Dinners is to inspire and inform not only our alumni and current CCS families but to inspire and inform the Tri-County Area and even our region by hosting speakers and artists who can uniquely assist us in celebrating the heritage, core values, and mission of CCS while also lifting our vision for an even greater future built upon the foundation of our past. The caliber of our speakers and guest artists should provide us with wonderful opportunities to share our CCS story with new partners in Christian education. Proceeds from the dinner will be applied to our annual Coventry Kids Fund for CCS scholarships.
This year we are proud to announce that our distinguished guest and speaker is Dr. Benjamin Carson, and our dinner's theme is "Faith of Our Fathers: The Role of Faith in American Schools." Please join us as we welcome Dr. Carson to the Tri-County Area and celebrate the great things God is doing at CCS!
Dr. Carson is a highly regarded neurosurgeon and motivational speaker who has addressed various audiences across the country. He is one of the most honored and recognized physicians in the world and holds more than 60 honorary doctorate degrees along with hundreds of awards and citations. He is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States. He is the author of five books and is the founder of the Carson Scholars Fund. The 2009 award-winning movie entitled Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. as Carson, premiered on TNT and is based on his memoir. Dr. Carson is an authentic disciple of Christ, has been married to his wife Candy for more than 37 years, and is the father of three sons.
The 2013 Founder's Dinner, which will once again be a part of our Homecoming festivities, will be held at the historic Sunnybrook Ballroom in Pottstown on Sunday, October 13th, 2013. Doors will open at 4:30pm, followed by dinner at 5:15. Dress will be business/professional. Tickets will be priced at $100 until May 15th, then will be $125, so reserve your tickets for the reduced price.
Due to Dr. Carson's international reputation and recent prominence in the media, including his recent speech at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast, we fully anticipate that this event will sell out quickly once advertised to the public. Tickets go on sale to the public April 15. If you are interested in attending, tickets can be purchased online. I will send the link out to those who wish to go on April 15
th
. While online reservations are preferred because they facilitate efficient event planning, you may also complete a paper order form, which I can forward to you as well.
All of us at Coventry Christian Schools, look forward to sharing this very special evening with you and acquainting you with the school and its mission!
Blessings,
Christine Gordon

Push Against Common Core Gains Momentum
As parents, citizens, and legislators learn more about Common Core, some are deciding it is not the best means of improving American education. Parents in many states are mounting grassroots campaigns against Common Core's standardization of learning and federal testing of students. In April, the Republican National Committee issued a resolution rejecting Common Core, saying it is a "plan [that] creates and fits the country with a nationwide straitjacket on academic freedom and achievement."
Critics of Common Core say it is an untried experiment that lacks legitimacy and empirical study and is now being foisted upon the entire U.S. school system. It has the potential to waste billions of dollars, multiple years of education efforts, and the learning potential of all schoolchildren.
Several state legislatures are considering withdrawing from Common Core (CC), delaying or not funding implementation, or withdrawing from national testing by government-funded consortia. Four states never adopted CC: Alaska, Nebraska, Texas, and Virginia. Minnesota accepted CC English standards, but rejected CC math. Private organizations developed CC; it was neither debated in public nor enacted by state legislators.
Certainly many Common Core promoters believe further centralization of education will improve educational outcomes, but power and cash may also be motivating some supporters. There is an immense amount of money flowing to public education because of Common Core implementation, and also to specific companies that are CC public-private partners that develop curriculum, create tests, and train educators to teach Common Core.

I wonder what it is going to take to make our legislators step back and really look at what Common Core is presenting to our children and listen to the TRUE facts. They want to raise our scoring levels up so the "states" are first - not giving any thought as to what they are being taught by using something that is going to dumb them down to the Skinner and Pavlov type of indoctrination. Please share these videos with anyone you know that has children in school - as I stated before - the combination of what they are being presented through the ELA books and the added effort of making them study informational and technical textbooks and as this video reports - the book they are talking about is "Voices" - Example: the book asks the question -
"Your mother ___________ you to clean your room and the choices for the answer are "tells" or "nags" implementing a negative attitude with the parent which is part of this goal.

Gun Owners of America
|
Toomey Tells Reporter:
He is Open to Destroying the Second Amendment Again
To review the bidding: You remember the beginning of April, when it appeared that the pro-gun movement would achieve a definitive victory which would send anti-gun crazy Mike Bloomberg into hiding for another decade?
Then, straight to the aid of people like Bloomberg who want to eliminate gun ownership in America, came Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey.
The so-called Toomey-Manchin "compromise" was actually drafted by New York Senator Chuck Schumer, and earlier versions still had his name at the top.
The Toomey proposal would create a national gun registry, and give the gun-grabbers and Barack Obama a huge victory from which they could make their next round of gun demands.
The "weasel-words" which purported to prohibit a gun registry were actually full of loopholes. For example, Attorney General Eric Holder is authorized to prosecute himself (and his subordinates) for creating a gun registry. But after Holder's performance on Fast & Furious and the IRS scandal, does anyone trust him to do that?
Since the defeat of Schumer-Toomey-Manchin, Toomey has normally tried to tamp down efforts to get the gun control debate jump-started again.
But now, Toomey has told reporter Jonathan Tamari that he is "open to reviving the background-check bill."
Toomey's statement, of course, will be used to resume a feeding frenzy to destroy the Second Amendment.
Toomey has made it quite clear to the Associated Press and others that he believes his role in trying to destroy the Second Amendment has been a political benefit for him in Pennsylvania.
You need to convince him differently.
ACTION: Contact Senator Toomey. Tell him how you feel about his efforts to further his political career by attacking gun ownership.
You can call Senator Toomey at 202-224-4254If it is not possible for you to call, then e-mail him by using his webform at
http://www.toomey.senate.gov/?p=contact. Select "Gun Rights" as the Topic.
----- Pre-written letter -----
I see that you told an Inquirer reporter that you are "open to reviving the background check bill."
You are reported to think that destroying the Second Amendment is good politics in Pennsylvania.
Arlen Specter thought the same thing. Remember him?
Make no mistake about it: We know that the so-called Toomey-Manchin "compromise" was actually drafted by New York Senator Chuck Schumer, and earlier versions still had his name at the top.
Your proposal would create a national gun registry, and give the gun-grabbers and Barack Obama a huge victory from which they could make their next round of gun demands.
The "weasel-words" which you use to purport to prohibit a gun registry were actually full of loopholes. For example, Attorney General Eric Holder is authorized to prosecute himself (and his subordinates) for creating a gun registry. But after Holder's performance on Fast & Furious and the IRS scandal, does anyone trust him to do that?
Please cease and desist in your efforts to destroy gun ownership for your own political gain.

Gang of Eight Increases Unemployment | May 29, 2013 | by Phyllis Schlafly | The bill created in secret by the Gang of Eight is an outrageous betrayal of American workers, both high-skilled and low-skilled. Claiming it is bipartisan, the drafters were Democrats and globalist Republicans.

RedState Morning Briefing
For May 30, 2013
1. Ted Cruz Takes Center Stage, Media Increases Attacks
With news Wednesday morning that Michelle Bachmann won't be running for re-election in 2014, the left has turned their sights quickly to another target: Ted Cruz. Not that they weren't already focused on him. The left has been foaming at the mouth over Cruz since he boldly stepped on the scene and refused to play by their crooked rules. Bachmann's exit, however, has introduced a new fervor on the left against Cruz and they've taken no time to come at him from every angle. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2. Trash Talk
The media, Democrats, and senile Republicans are all after Senator Ted Cruz.
This is a must watch video reminding you why and to what extend the media, Democrats, and John McCain are after the junior senator from Texas. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3. McAuliffe's stalled electric car company salary raises funding scheme questions
At this point the failures and false promises of Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe's electric car company, GreenTech, have been well documented.
For those who need a refresher, Clinton fundraiser and party insider McAuliffe re-christened himself a 'Virginia businessman' in his second quest for the Old Dominion governorship and touted several supposed job-creating ventures on the campaign trail, one being a wood pellet firm that has yet to become operational, and another was GreenTech Automotive, which he pledged would create thousands of jobs. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4. The penumbra of power
A few weeks ago, Apple executives were called on the Congressional carpet for... well, it's not really clear, actually. Congress was very angry at them for failing to haul international profits back to the United States so they could be taxed at confiscatory anti-growth American rates. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) countered by pointing out that everyone tries to legally minimize their tax liability. Accountants who failed to take such opportunities would be failing in their duty to shareholders. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
5. Working Hard Or Hardly Working? A union boss lives down to the union fat cat stereotype
Whether it's justified or not, there is a well-established "fat cat" stereotype of union bosses that has existed for many, many years that goes something like this:
Union bosses are fat, lazy, corrupt, drive big cars and don't do much for the exorbitant salaries their union members pay them.
Again, whether one agrees with that stereotype of not, is irrelevant because, as matter of fact, there is ample evidence to support it. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

Fast and Furious Back In The News!
Between the IRS, Benghazi, and the Justice Department's seizure of the AP's phone records and monitoring a journalist's emails as a possible "co-conspirator" in the new crime of journalism, one thing I have found lacking. What happened to Fast and Furious? I still find it hard to believe we have really learned the truth about what happened. I don't mean just the question of who knew and when (though that is certainly an answer we need) but also the intent of the operation. We are still being told that this operation of "walking" guns into the hands of Mexican drug cartels was "botched." It was allegedly botched because no attempt was made to track the guns once they got into criminal enemy hands.
But why say the operation was "botched" when there is no evidence of any failed attempt to track the weapons? Why not conclude that the operation was inaccurately described in order to give cover to an operation whose main purpose was to actually provide arms to a Mexican Drug Cartel? Pretending the plan included tracking the gun allowed a group of decision-makers to work with a larger group of useful idiots in government.
If that seems too criminal to be believed, then there was also the secondary rationale. We were all reminded of it when Obama went to Mexico in the beginning of May and blamed the violence in Mexico, in part, on "the fact that guns are smuggled into Mexico from the United States." Even when it has been exposed that the weapons were sent to Mexico by US government policy, Obama will still shamelessly frame the Second Amendment for the crime. That gives us a peek of the agenda that was planned if "Fast and Furious" had never been uncovered.

Police said they were looking for a gang of "Asian" men in connection with the attack.
Again for those new to media scrubbing, sanitizing, deception and obfuscation, "youth gang," "Asian," "immigrant," "youth," "immigrant youth," "North African," and "Moroccan" all mean the same thing. The prohibited M word -- blasphemous under the sharia (Islamic law).
Sounds like a copycat attempt of the London hack attack.
"Machete attack horror at Accrington barber's shop" Lancashire Telegraph, May 20, 2013 (thanks to Armaros)
MACHETE wielding thugs have left two men with 'serious injuries' after attacking them in an Accrington barber's shop. The two victims had been inside the shop in Ormerod Street when four masked men carrying machetes and knives forced their way inside. Detectives investigating the incident said the gang attacked the pair before forcing them into the street. The thugs also attacked a parked car during the incident at midnight on Saturday. Police said they were alerted to the incident after witnesses called an ambulance. The victims both suffered deep wounds and had to be taken to hospital by paramedics. One of the men, a 23-year-old man from Accrington sustained a serious head injury while, the other a 24-year-old man also from Accrington suffered a serious cut to his arm, police said. Both men are being treated at the Royal Blackburn Hospital and their condition was yesterday described as 'serious but not life threatening'. Detectives investigating the incident are now urging anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. DI Claire Holbrook, of Eastern division's public protect unit, said: "We are treating this incident extremely seriously. "Despite the offenders wearing facial coverings we will endeavour to bring these extremely violent offenders to justice. "I urge anyone with information about the attack to come forward and contact police." Extra police patrols have been launched in the area to try reassure residents. Police said they were looking for a gang of Asian men in connection with the attack. A 23-year-old man from Accrington was arrested and released on police bail pending further inquiries. Anyone with information about the incident should call police on 101.

House Judiciary panel opens probe of Holder in reporter surveillance case By Jonathan Easley
The top two Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday formally initiated an investigation into whether Attorney General Eric Holder lied under oath during his May 15 testimony on the Justice Department's (DOJ) surveillance of reporters.
Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.), the chairman of the subcommittee on investigations, sent a letter to Holder detailing specific aspects of his testimony that they say conflicts with subsequent media reports.
The Hill first reported on the impending investigation on Tuesday.

Morning Jolt . . . with Jim Geraghty
May 29, 2013
Michele Bachmann: I'm Out of Here
The Minnesota congresswoman announced this morning she will not be running for reelection to the House in 2014.
POLITICO reported over the weekend that the Minnesota Republican faced "existential" political threats. The Federal Election Commission and the Office of Congressional Ethics are investigating the finances of last year's Republican primary bid. And she was being challenged again by Jim Graves, a Democrat who came within 5,000 votes, or 1.2 percentage points, of unseating her last November.
Bachmann added on the 8½-minute video: "[T]he law limits anyone from serving as president of the United States for more than eight years. And in my opinion, well, eight years is also long enough for any individual to serve as a representative for a specific congressional district.
"Be assured: My decision was not in any way influenced by any concerns about my being reelected to Congress. ... I have every confidence that if I ran, I would again defeat the individual who I defeated last year, who recently announced he is once again running.
Reid Wilson: "Her political troubles made her one of the few members of Congress who would be more difficult for her party to defend than an open seat would be. That is, Republicans would rather run a fresh candidate without Bachmann's baggage than try to defend her suburban Twin Cities district. In 2012, Mitt Romney took 56.5 percent of the vote in Bachmann's district; Bachmann eked out a win over Democrat Jim Graves by just 1.2 percentage points, or about 4,300 votes. Bachmann may have been the loudest member of the class of 2006, the one who inspired the most heated arguments. But she will hardly be the most consequential; her enduring legacy may be the lessons she taught in how to lose friends and become completely uninfluential. With her exit, Democrats lose a potent fundraising tool. Republicans lose a headache they would just as soon do without."
Byron York summarized her presidential bid last year:
WEST DES MOINES -- If Michele Bachmann was ever intimidated by running for president, ever scared of taking a position, ever cowed by advisers urging caution -- if she was ever any of those things, she never showed it. Hers was the most fearless, flat-out, in-your-face presence in the Republican presidential field, and as a candidate she was capable of launching searing attacks on her GOP rivals -- just ask Rick Perry, or Newt Gingrich, or Ron Paul. But when Bachmann bowed out of the race on Wednesday morning, just hours after finishing sixth in a seven-candidate field in the Iowa caucuses, she spoke kindly of her now-former adversaries and kept the focus on the man who gave birth to her candidacy: Barack Obama.
I'm Sure Those Nearly-Weekly IRS Commissioner Visits to the White House Are Nothing, Really
Hey, remember how the conventional wisdom was that as awful as the Internal Revenue Service scandal was, there was no reason to think that the White House knew anything about the effort to target conservatives for special, unfair scrutiny?
Yeah, maybe that line of defense doesn't look so solid, either:
Top IRS officials, whose agency was under investigation for targeting conservative groups, visited the Obama White House more than 100 times over two years while the probe was going on, far more often than in previous administrations and frequently enough that Republicans suspect White House officials knew about the targeting.
Lawmakers now investigating the Internal Revenue Service practice zeroed in on those nearly weekly White House meetings to determine whether an IRS official - or someone higher up in the administration - had approved the targeting and whether it was politically motivated.
The frequent meetings also raised questions about the White House's claims that it couldn't have instigated the targeting of conservative groups because it took a hands-off approach to the tax agency, going so far as to describe it as independent of the administration even though it's part of the Treasury Department.
Former Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Doug Shulman visited the White House 118 times between 2010 and 2011. Acting Director Steven Miller, who took over at the IRS in November, also made numerous visits to the White House, though variations in the spelling of his name in White House visitor logs makes it difficult to determine exactly how many times.
Okay, how many different spellings of "Miller" can there be?
Meet the Wealthy Apparel Magnate Backing the Early Effort to Help Hillary
The America Rising opposition-research shop introduces us to the first major Democrat celebrity-with-gobs-of-money to back a super PAC encouraging a 2016 Hillary Clinton presidential campaign:
Today, Pro-Hillary Clinton Super PAC announced it had signed on Democrat fundraiser Susie Tompkins Buell, co-founder of clothing line Esprit. In the 1990s, while Tompkins Buell held control of Espirit, the Bay Area sweatshops which were contracted to make garments for Espirit were raided by the federal government. The Department of Labor found that the sweatshops doctored payroll records, paid workers less than minimum wage, and refused to pay overtime.
When asked to cut ties with the manufacturer an Espirit company spokesman said it was more important for the "socially responsible" Espirit to stay in business than to pay its workers the government mandated minimum wage.
For further perspective, she withheld financial support from Barack Obama in 2012 because he hadn't done enough on climate change to suit her tastes.
Espirit's whole process of growing cotton and manufacturing clothing, that doesn't generate any carbon emissions, right?
She's also credited with delaying the White House's decision on the Keystone Pipeline:
In October, Buell made headlines after she led a protest of monied Democrats in San Francisco against the controversial 1,700-mile Keystone XL oil pipeline. Her fellow protesters outside an Obama fundraiser included Michael Kieschnick, co-founder of CREDO Mobile and Working Assets, which has donated $75 million to progressive causes; IT executive David desJardins; and Anna Hawken McKay, wife of Rob McKay, a wealthy philanthropist whose father founded Taco Bell.
The Democrats, who could have easily afforded the $5,000-a-plate Obama fundraiser, stood on the curb outside the W Hotel as Buell delivered a tough assessment of the president: "I don't know where he stands on anything," she said.
Kieschnick said Buell's decision to take an aggressive stance was pivotal to the eventual outcome - a White House announcement last month that the application for the pipeline from the Canadian province of Alberta to Texas refineries would be rejected.
"Before her involvement, the powers that be clearly dismissed our concerns" about the long-term environmental impacts of the pipeline, said Kieschnick, who has known Buell for 20 years. People inside the White House "clearly noticed," he said. "Then they realized this was not only bad policy, this was bad politics."
Oh, and her corporate management style wasn't all hearts-and-flowers:
But Esprit de Corp. also ultimately came to epitomize the worst side of another decade, the me decade, the 1980s and its junk-bond daddies and S&L pirates and slick-suited sharpies. After helping manage the company with her then-husband, Doug Tompkins, for 22 years, Susie Tompkins led a 1990 leveraged buyout that gained her control of the company, and netted her an estimated $150 million.
Esprit emerged from the buyout so deeply in debt -- and Tompkins Buell's subsequent helmsmanship left the company in such desperate financial straits -- that it went into technical default on its outstanding loans within less than two years. Esprit then spent five years shriveling to a morsel of its former self before Tompkins Buell relinquished all ownership of and involvement in the company in December.
More background on Espirit and sweatshops:
[In 1993] the Department of Labor raided a San Francisco garment shop that works on contract for Esprit and owed its workers $127,000 in back wages. Although the minimum wage is barely livable at $4.25 an hour, the shop contract by Esprit paid only $3.75 with no overtime. Just six months earlier, in a bust of eight Bay Area garment contractors, three of those cited were working for Esprit.
Those three, according to D.O.L. documents, were doctoring payroll records and not paying overtime. After the shops paid the back wages, at least one seamstress complained to the state Labor Commission that the employer was asking for kickbacks.
Esprit's affable spokesman Dan Imhoff says that garment workers should be paid a wage that "allows them a reasonable life style." But asked specifically about what Esprit could do to insure this, he shifts the responsibility back to the contractor. "The bottom line is Esprit has to pay its own workers a fair wage. Do you think a socially responsible business would survive if it would pay twice as much to its contractor? How can a company stay in business? This is getting in a very tough nerve.
"Perhaps," he continues. "Esprit isn't the shining example that you want . . . [Esprit] can only change so many things at one time."
I guess it's easier to support raising the minimum wage when you find it optional.
Are America's Men 'Going on Strike' and Boycotting Marriage and Fatherhood?
I think Helen Smith is on to something in her new book, Men on Strike: Why Men Are Boycotting Marriage, Fatherhood, and the American Dream - and Why It Matters.
She discusses her book with Lisa DePasquale here:
Nearly every TV commercial seems to show the husband or father as bumbling, emasculated basement-dwellers. One commercial that sticks in my mind is a laundry detergent commercial that shows a husband and wife folding their triplets' clothes. The husband says, "You're cuter than clean clothes." The wife responds, "Thanks, honey. You suck at folding."
So much for positive reinforcement.
It's a common theme in commercials and sitcoms that men just can't do anything right. In her new book, Men On Strike: Why Men Are Boycotting Marriage, Fatherhood, and the American Dream - and Why It Matters, Dr. Helen Smith tackles how men got to the point of not even trying.
Popular wisdom keeps telling us that men are stuck in an adolescent stage of non-committal relationships, video games and beer pong. However, Smith notes that men are putting off marriage and fatherhood as a rational, not immature, choice. She writes, "The discrepancy between the life of the freer, single man and the life of the less respected, less free life of the married man is at the heart of why so many men have gone on strike. This discrepancy between the perks of single life and the punishment of married life for men has become wider in modern times given the unequal legal terms, cultural empowerment for married women -but not men - and the lack of reproductive rights that men face in comparison to their female counterparts."
Popular culture certainly doesn't think much of fathers. The irony is that single, pre-parenthood, quasi-slacker "just a guy" males are the staple of television comedies (Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother [for most of the run, anyway], Friends [Ross's son was mentioned once every few episodes], the guys on The New Girl) . . . but the portrayal of the single guys is actually better than the average portrayal of a father.
Once a male character becomes a father, he becomes exponentially more hapless: Modern Family, Two and a Half Men, Family Guy, The Simpsons, Suburgatory, American Dad, The Middle. Very rarely do you see male characters on dramas like Grey's Anatomy, NCIS or its spinoff, CSI or its spinoffs, and Elementary or others dealing with fatherhood issues. Even on Castle, the protagonist's daughter gets forgotten about or ignored for long stretches.
I think the last father on television who was anything resembling a role model was Jack Bauer.*
Madison Avenue: "See, the Baby Bjorn is comedy gold! Don't those guys look silly! Don't they look pathetic for trying to be 'cool' with their dark sunglasses, when the fact that they're carrying their offspring in Baby Bjorns means, ipso facto, they can't be cool? . . . Hey, where did this culture-wide disinterest in parental responsibilities come from?"
As TV Tropes notes, the "bumbling dad" was once seen as a comedic subversion of the "Father Knows Best" authoritative patriarch. But both our popular culture in terms of entertainment and much of American culture has long since forgotten the concept of the father being the reliable, assured, rock of the family.
And yes, this is indeed the Helen Smith who Instapundit's Glenn Reynolds refers to as "the InstaWife."
* "Jim, Jack Bauer is a role model?!? This man kills dozens of people in the course of a day, engages in 'enhanced interrogations' regularly, never has time to explain, and when his back is really up against the wall, he's willing to chop a low-life's head off just to help establish his credibility with a terror cell he's trying to infiltrate."
"And your objection is . . . what?"

Getting an early start on primary season, Rand Paul stopped by New Hampshire and offered some sage advice for winning elections. According to the article, "Senator Paul Rand urged New Hampshire Republicans to become more diversified." New Hampshire is 94.6% white, 2.9% Latino and 1.3% Black. I don't know the exact diversity statistics for New Hampshire Republicans, but if they get a half-black and half-Latino guy in a wheelchair to run for something, they will probably have covered all the statistical bases. "We need to grow bigger," Rand Paul said. "If you want to be the party of white people, we're winning all the white votes. We're a diverse nation. We're going to win when we look like America." Looking like America is common advice these days. What does America look like? For now it still looks more like New Hampshire than like California. And despite that, Democrats scored some big wins in New Hampshire in the last election. Obama won New Hampshire 52 to 46 and it probably wasn't the black vote that put him over the top. He picked up over 100,000 votes in Hillsborough County, which is 90 percent white. Clearly, despite Rand Paul's optimism, Republicans aren't winning all the white votes in New Hampshire. Or in Kentucky. Rand Paul's Kentucky looks a lot like New Hampshire. It's 88.9% white. And its white Senator, who did not win all the white votes, decided to visit another white state to tell Republicans there that they needed to look more like America or California. Or someplace like that. Because the white vote was all locked down. In his 2010 Senate election, Rand Paul won 59% of the white vote and his opponent won 86% of the black vote. Two years later, in the national election Romney won 59% of the white vote and his opponent won 93% of the black vote. Both men scored the exact same percentage of the white vote.

Mr. Rubio, you've even lost "Walter Kristol" fold up your tent and go home
May 29, 2013 06:13 am | Coach Collins
by Kevin "Coach" Collins
When Lyndon Johnson lost the support of Walter Cronkite for his prosecution of the war in Viet Nam, he was sufficiently impressed that he pulled out of the 1968 presidential election. Recognizing the gravity of this defeat, Johnson said, "If I've lost Cronkite, I've lost Middle America."
While the squishy "Republicans" at the "Weekly Standard" are in no way as influential as "Uncle Walter" was in 1968, the advice from William Kristol of the Weekly Standard to Marco Rubio to "get out" of this effort to "fix" immigration is nonetheless quite telling.
During a recent interview about the Senate's efforts to provide amnesty to millions of illegal aliens, Kristol spoke directly to the Gang of Ocho's Senator Marco Rubio - a Cuban American from South Florida saying , "He should walk away from it. He should say, 'I made a good faith effort, but ... Continue Reading:Mr. Rubio, you've even lost "Walter Kristol" fold up your tent and go home

Useful idiots and those who use them
May 28, 2013 10:21 am | Michael D. Shaw
The term "useful idiot" is attributed to Vladimir Lenin, and refers to those in the West who were overly sympathetic to the Soviet cause-often to the detriment of their own country.
Today's useful idiots are not so much in favor of a Communist country (although sympathy toward Cuba does occur with this group) as they are biased toward what can be called a "Leftist" philosophy. Unfortunately, the terms "Left" and "Right" themselves provide much confusion.
This terminology has been used since the early French Revolutionary era, and originally referred to the seating arrangements used in the French Legislative Assembly of 1791, when the moderate royalist Feuillants sat on the right side of the chamber, while the radical Montagnards sat on the left.
Thus, the defining point was how an individual felt towards the so-called ancien régime ("old order"). Those on "The Right" supported aristocratic, royal, or clerical interests, while those on "The Left" implied opposition to the same. ... Continue Reading:Useful idiots and those who use them

Obama's Abuse of Power Isn't New

Obama loves Gibson?
"On Aug. 24, 2011, federal agents executed four search warrants on Gibson Guitar Corp. facilities in Nashville and Memphis, Tenn., and seized several pallets of wood, electronic files and guitars. One of the top makers of acoustic and electric guitars, including the iconic Les Paul introduced in 1952, Gibson was accused of using wood illegally obtained in violation of the century-old Lacey Act, which outlaws trafficking in flora and fauna the harvesting of which had broken foreign laws. ... Interestingly, one of Gibson's leading competitors is C.F. Martin & Co. According to C.F. Martin's catalog, several of their guitars contain 'East Indian Rosewood,' which is the exact same wood in at least 10 of Gibson's guitars. So why were they not also raided and their inventory of foreign wood seized? Grossly underreported at the time was the fact that Gibson's chief executive, Henry Juszkiewicz, contributed to Republican politicians. ... By contrast, Chris Martin IV, the Martin & Co. CEO, is a long-time Democratic supporter, with $35,400 in contributions to Democratic candidates and the Democratic National Committee over the past couple of election cycles. ... Juszkiewicz' claim that his company was 'inappropriately targeted' is eerily similar to the claims by Tea Party, conservative, pro-life and religious groups that they were targeted by the IRS for special scrutiny because they sought to exercise their First Amendment rights to band together in vocal opposition to the administration's policies and the out-of-control growth of government and its power. The Gibson Guitar raid, the IRS intimidation of Tea Party groups and the fraudulently obtained warrant naming Fox News reporter James Rosen as an 'aider, abettor, co-conspirator' in stealing government secrets are but a few examples of the abuse of power by the Obama administration to intimidate those on its enemies list." --Investor's Business Daily

"Our Founding Fathers feared the emergence of an agency such as the IRS and its potential for abuse. That's why they gave us Article 1, Section 9 of the Constitution, which reads: 'No Capitation, or other direct, Tax shall be laid, unless in Proportion to the Census or Enumeration herein before directed to be taken.' A capitation is a tax placed directly on an individual. That's what an income tax is. The founders feared the abuse and the government power inherent in a direct tax. In Section 8 of Article 1, they added, 'But all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States.' These protections the founders gave us were undone by the Progressive era's 16th Amendment, which reads, 'The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.' ... The bottom line is that members of Congress need such a ruthless tax collection agency as the IRS because of the charge we Americans have given them." --economist Walter E. Williams
"[A] Fox poll asked people which of the recent scandals concerned them the most. IRS topped the list with 32%; followed by Benghazi with 27%; the monitoring of AP reporters scored 21%; and 10% went for none of the above, claiming that all of them were of grave concern. ... [T]he truly shocking number was 8%. That represented the percentage of Americans who were not the least bit concerned about any of these matters. And I will remind you that these ignoramuses are allowed, even encouraged, to go out and vote every Election Day." --columnist Burt Prelutsky
"From around 1630 to 1966, immigrants sank or swam. About a third of them couldn't make it in America and went home -- and those are the ones who weren't rejected right off the boat for being sick, crippled or idiots. That's why corny stories of someone's ancestors coming here a half-century ago are completely irrelevant. If their ancestors hadn't succeeded, their great-grandchildren wouldn't be here to tell the story because no one was given food stamps, free medical care and housing to stay. (And vote Democrat.) Now we're scraping the bottom of the barrel by holding ourselves out as the welfare ward of the world and specifically rejecting skilled immigrants. As Milton Friedman said, you cannot have open borders and a welfare state. The reason a country's average immigrant matters is that the losers never go home -- they go on welfare. (Maybe if they had to work, immigrants wouldn't have as much time to build bombs.)" --columnist Ann Coulter

The Real IRS Scandal: the IRS Exists By Walter Hudson
As the IRS scandal continues to develop, it highlights a deeper and more fundamental injustice in our social order, an ongoing First Amendment crisis fostered by the intersection of tax policy, campaign finance regulation, and civil rights law. Law of Unintended Consequences Strikes Again
Posted: 29 May 2013 12:35 PM PDT
(Steven Hayward)
I forget which Chicago-school economist it was (probably it was Sam Peltzman) who once suggested that the most effective way to cut down on automobile accidents would be to place a sharp, eight-inch knife on the steering wheel of every car. Instead, we got mandates for seat belts and air bags. Peltzman's research showed showed that in the early years people with seat belts suffered fewer injuries in accidents, but . . . they caused more accidents. (Ditto for the early years of air bags.) The point was simple: by reducing the perceived risk of accidents, many people drove more recklessly, even if unconsciously. Hence the knife-on-the-steering-wheel idea: raise the obvious risk perception of accidents, and people will be much more careful behind the wheel.
Seat belts and air bags make perfect sense once their installation is universal; in other words, the asymmetries Peltzman noted were transitory. The same cannot be said for the government's latest auto safety idea: red light cameras. Even the federal government has noted that red light cameras are increasing accidents, especially rear-end collisions. As James Hemphill summarizes the problem at RedAlertPolitics.com:
A comprehensive report conducted by the Federal Highway Administration found that the presence of red light cameras at traffic intersections increased the likelihood of rear-end crashes by 14.9 percent and the number of injuries in traffic intersections by 24 percent. Red light cameras also do little to prevent "T-bone" accidents, where the side of one vehicle is impacted by the front or rear of another vehicle, as those accidents often occur when the driver is not paying attention, and not simply disregarding a red light.
I'm sure if we put TSA in charge of the problem it will get better.

The Democrats Respond to Michele Bachmann's Retirement
Posted: 29 May 2013 11:16 AM PDT
(John Hinderaker)
This morning the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee sent out an email commenting on Michele Bachmann's announcement that she will not run again in 2014. The email employed the breezy, low-rent tone that the Democrats have perfected. You wonder who writes these things; is it a 22-year-old slacker, or is there some middle-aged guy who gets paid millions to impersonate one? The emails subject heading is "this is CRAZY." That capitalization (and lack thereof) is carefully calculated:
John -
Late last night, Michele Bachmann released a crazy web video announcing that she's leaving Congress next year.
What is crazy about the video? Nothing, of course. But the Democrats try to put the word "crazy" in proximity to Michele's name as often as possible.
THIS IS HUGE! Now that the Tea Party's ringleader has called it quits, Boehner has to be wondering who's next to go. If we can sweep up 17 Republican seats, we can take Boehner's Speaker's gavel and win a Democratic House for President Obama!
In 48 hours, our FEC fundraising deadline hits and we'll report how many supporters we have standing behind us. Will you help us reach 500,000 strong standing behind our campaign to kick out the Tea Party House?
FOR THE NEXT 48 HOURS, ALL GIFTS WILL BE MATCHED: Chip in $3 or more to defeat Tea Party Republicans.
It's always about the money. I wonder who's doing the matching?
Bachmann's announcement is a huge blow to vulnerable House Republicans - so we need to put the pressure on them while they're still reeling.
A huge blow to vulnerable House Republicans? Why? The Democrats have been telling us for years that Bachmann is a nut, but now she apparently is a uniquely powerful candidate. And would anyone seriously believe that House Republicans are "reeling" because Bachmann decided not to run for a fifth term? Of course not. But the Democrats' political communications are not aimed at the intelligent.
Will you dig deep for Democrats today?

What did Marvin Lewis know and when did he know it?
Posted: 29 May 2013 09:54 AM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
The other day, Nancy Pelosi was defending the Obama administration's alleged ignorance of the IRS's mistreatment of conservative organizations. Noting the involvement of the Cincinnati IRS office, Pelosi asked, rhetorically, whether John Boehner, whose district isn't far from that office, should have known about the misconduct.
It's a fair point, but why stop with Boehner? Marvin Lewis coaches the Cincinnati Bengals. Can he be expected to know what's going on in the Cincinnati IRS office? Of course not. So how can we expect the Obama administration to know what policies and practices the executive branch of the government is implementing via the Cincinnati office?

Will Somebody Tell Al-Qaida That the Era of Terrorism Is Over?
Posted: 29 May 2013 08:48 AM PDT
(Steven Hayward)
So Obama thinks the problem of terrorism has receded to pre-9/11 levels and we can call the whole thing off. Won't be long now before the New York Times re-runs the Larry Johnson article from July 2001, "The Declining Terrorist Threat," which confidently proclaimed:
Americans are bedeviled by fantasies about terrorism. They seem to believe that terrorism is the greatest threat to the United States and that it is becoming more widespread and lethal. They are likely to think that the United States is the most popular target of terrorists. And they almost certainly have the impression that extremist Islamic groups cause most terrorism. None of these beliefs are based in fact. . .
Although high-profile incidents have fostered the perception that terrorism is becoming more lethal, the numbers say otherwise, and early signs suggest that the decade beginning in 2000 will continue the downward trend. . . terrorism is not the biggest security challenge confronting the United States, and it should not be portrayed that way.
Good call, Larry.
Has anyone sent the Obama memo to al-Qaida? Oh, that's right-al-Qaida comprises "loose networks" of "lone wolves" and other lowlifes, and now that Osama bin Laden is dead, they are as rudderless as a George Lucas Star Wars prequel. There's no central office to send the Obama memo to.
The AP has a fascinating article out yesterday that explains how al-Qaida is highly organized like a corporate bureaucracy complete with a board of directors, expense reports from the field, and business plans, culminating in the staggering fact that the North Africa chapter raised an estimated $89 million for jihadist activity through kidnappings and ransoms. That starts to look like a serious business model. The AP story relates what amounts to a "performance review" of one of the leading North African terrorists, who left the company for his own startup after a critical annual review:
The complaint reflects how al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb, initially considered one of the group's weaker wings, rose to prominence by bankrolling its operation with an estimated $89 million raised by kidnapping-for-ransom foreign aid workers and tourists. No less than Osama bin Laden endorsed their business model, according to documents retrieved in the terror leader's hideout in Pakistan.
The letter also confirms for the first time that payments from European governments went directly toward buying arms to carry out attacks against Western targets, as long speculated by experts. The council chides Belmoktar for not following this practice. . .
The list of slights is long: He would not take their phone calls. He refused to send administrative and financial reports. He ignored a meeting in Timbuktu, calling it "useless." He even ordered his men to refuse to meet with al-Qaida emissaries. And he aired the organization's dirty laundry in online jihadist forums, even while refusing to communicate with the chapter via the Internet, claiming it was insecure.
Sounding like managers in any company, the Shura leaders accuse Belmoktar of not being able to get along with his peers. They charge that he recently went to Libya without permission from the chapter, which had assigned the "Libya dossier" to a rival commander called Abou Zeid. And they complain that the last unit they sent Belmoktar for backup in the Sahara spent a full three years trying to contact him before giving up.

Perjury may not be such a "hard rap to prove" in Eric Holder's case
Posted: 29 May 2013 08:32 AM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
To my knowledge, Karl Rove was the first commentator to focus attention on a massive problem from which even Eric ("Nine Lives") Holder may not be able to escape. Two weeks ago, testifying under oath before the House Judiciary Committee, Holder was asked whether the Justice Department could prosecute reporters under the Espionage Act of 1917. His response (emphasis added) was:
In regard to potential prosecution of the press for the disclosure of material - this is not something I've ever been involved in, heard of, or would think would be wise policy.
When he gave this testimony, Holder had personally signed a request to a court to authorize a wiretap on Fox News reporter James Rosen. The request stated that Rosen may have acted as "an aider, abettor and/or co-conspirator" by obtaining national security materials from a government official also under investigation.
Bill Otis confirms that during his days as a federal prosecutor, telling the court that a wiretap target might have been an aider, abettor or co-conspirator in a serious federal crime "was most assuredly vouching that there was a potential prosecution of that target."
Did Holder forget that he had signed the request to wiretap Rosen? I don't see how he could have. Such requests, when they involve members of the press, are something any Attorney General would remember.
As much as President Obama must hate the notion of throwing Holder - a soul mate in ideology and ruthless disregard for the law - overboard, it's difficult to see how the Attorney General survives this one.
Perjury may be, as Richard Nixon once said, "an awful hard rap to prove." But even Obama may not require proof of perjury beyond reasonable doubt when it comes to the Attorney General of the United States.

The Editors' Top Picks IRS Scandal: It Wasn't Just Cincinnati (and May Involve Other Federal Agencies) It's increasingly clear in the IRS scandal that the targeting of conservatives was directed from Washington, as multiple IRS offices were involved. Senate Asks Supreme Court to Consider Obama's Recess Appts Senate Republicans are calling upon the Supreme Court to rein in President Obama's use of recess appointments, asserting that they are perfect examples of Obama's "power grab." Obama Administration Warns U.K. of Economic Loss if it Exits EU The Obama administration warned that if the U.K. leaves the EU, Britain could lose billions of pounds a year owing to exclusion from the proposed Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. High Court to Hear Case Challenging Prayer at Government Meetings The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a case that could place limitations on prayer at government meetings in cities, towns, and municipalities across the nation. Wednesday, May 29, 2013 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer Scandal Update Here are the latest developments in the various scandals surrounding the Obama Administration.
- NBC News reports that letters received from conservative organizations clearly indicate that the IRS' politically-motivated targeting of Christian and Tea Party groups "did not solely originate in the agency's Cincinnati office." Jay Sekulow with the American Center for Law and Justice is representing more than two dozen groups targeted by the IRS. He told NBC: "We've dealt with 15 agents, including tax law specialists -- that's lawyers -- from four different offices, including (the) Treasury (Department) in Washington, D.C. So the idea that this is a couple of rogue agents in Cincinnati is not correct."
In addition, it has been reported that former IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman visited the Obama White House more than 100 times during 2010 and 2011. In contrast, Commissioner Mark Everson visited the Bush White House only once during his tenure, from 2003 to 2007. No doubt some of Shulman's visits were related to the IRS' role in the enforcement of Obamacare. But Shulman's frequent visits took place when the IRS harassment of conservative organizations was at its peak. Democrats love to point out that Shulman was appointed IRS Commissioner by George W. Bush. But they neglect to mention that he is also a Democrat donor, giving $500 to the Democrat National Committee when Bush was up for reelection in 2004. - Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, wants to know more about the false Benghazi talking points used by U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice. Yesterday, Rep. Issa issued a subpoena to Secretary of State John Kerry demanding the State Department turn over "all documents and communications referring or relating to the Benghazi talking points." Issa gave Kerry until June 7th to comply.
- The left's support for Obama is beginning to crack. Liberal law professor Jonathan Turley has penned an op-ed in USA Today demanding President Obama fire Attorney General Eric Holder for his "ignoble legacy," adding that Holder's "sins should be fatal for any attorney general." To give you some idea of just how left-wing Turley is, he has filed suit on behalf of "marriage equality" for polygamists in Utah.
Senate GOP Goes To Court Many conservatives have been rightly concerned about the lawlessness of this administration and the apparent lack of a response. Here is some good news: There has been a response, but it just takes time. As you may recall, Barack Obama has expressed his frustration with the limits placed on him by the system of checks and balances our Founders created. Well, those checks and balances work both ways -- making it difficult for the other branches of government to check the executive. Consider the example of Obama's extraordinary recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Obama made the appointments when there wasn't a congressional recess. Two federal courts have now declared those appointments unconstitutional. Of course, the Obama Administration is appealing to the Supreme Court. Yesterday all 45 Senate Republicans signed on to a brief urging the high court to strike down Obama's recess appointments. In a statement, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell argued, "If [President Obama] can override Senate procedures and second-guess its account of its actions, there is no telling what mischief he can achieve." If the Supreme Court agrees, everything the NLRB has done could well be declared invalid. "The Enemy Is Everywhere" The BBC reported yesterday that British authorities have arrested ten people during a sweep of Islamic extremists. The arrests come in the aftermath of last week's brutal murder of a British soldier in broad daylight. Not surprisingly, the attack has encouraged other jihadists to lash out. A British prison guard was kidnapped Sunday by three Muslim inmates and beaten for hours before being rescued by a riot squad. Recalling World War II-era posters warning, "The enemy is everywhere," Dame Stella Rimington, the former head of Britain's intelligence agency MI-5, is calling on British citizens "to act as the eyes and ears" of the police in order to expose radical Islamists. Rimington's analogy, sadly, is accurate, as radical Islam has been tolerated for too long and has spread throughout parts of England. Also over the weekend, a French soldier in a Paris suburb was stabbed in the neck. French police today arrested a 21 year-old Muslim convert who reportedly confessed to the attack and who "acted in the name of his religious ideology." The French Interior Minister admitted to the media that "no fewer than 120 French jihadists" have left the country to fight in Syria's civil war, with the vast majority of them fighting alongside Al Qaeda terrorists. It is believed that 30 have returned to France. Bachmann Announces Retirement Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) announced this morning that she will not seek reelection to Congress next year. Rep. Bachmann, chairman of the House Tea Party Caucus, is a stalwart conservative. A former tax attorney, Bachmann, the mother of five children who also welcomed 23 foster children into her home, has been a passionate advocate for traditional values. Like any staunch conservative who dares to stand up for faith and family, she has been sliced, diced and smeared by the left and its media allies. No doubt she is looking forward to some quiet time with her family away from the glare of a hostile media. While her leadership in Washington will be missed, I am certain that she will remain an influential voice for our values for many years to come!

The New York and federal gov't intimidations of Chris Slattery and his incredible baby-saving, mother helping organization is deeply concerning. This is the rough, Chicago style of dealing with one's perceived enemies. It's a preview of what we will likely be seeing much more of from Obama and Cuomo unless the American people start to really fight back, boot these people and their political supporters out of office and hold them otherwise accountable for their abuses of political power. The next elections will be a real test of those who believe in freedom and those who don't or those who don't care.

Don't Let the Farm Bill Fool You
In 2012, the Senate passed a trillion-dollar farm and food stamp bill. With your help, conservatives blocked that disastrous bill, and Congress passed a one-year extension of the 2008 bill.
There is no such thing as a permanent victory: the Washington Establishment is again pushing a trillion-dollar bill that subsidizes wealthy farmers and funds Obama's food stamp agenda.
We are back in the trenches, battling this nearly trillion-dollar bill. While farm bill advocates talk about some minor changes, it still costs substantially more than the 2008 bill.
>> Don't be fooled: the new farm bill's "savings" are imaginary.
1 in 7 Americans are eligible for food stamps. The farm bill includes farm subsidies and food stamps so that all politicians have the "incentive" to pass it. Food stamp spending still comprises 80 percent of the spending in the "farm" bill.
>> Get the facts: the farm and food stamp is a new, massive threat to taxpayers.
Thank you, in advance, for joining us in this fight.
Sincerely,
Michael A. Needham Chief Executive Officer Heritage Action for America

Sen. Sanders (I-VT) slams Hatch amendment to Senate amnesty bill
|
|
|
|
You may want to comment on this interview with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT). Sanders really goes to bat for high-skilled workers.
"My concerns are in regards to where we stand in terms of guest workers programs, made worse by amendments offered by Senator Hatch," Sanders said. "What I do not support is, under the guise of immigrant reform, a process pushed by large corporations which results in more unemployment and lower wages for American workers."
The Senate Judiciary Committee passed an amendment from Sen. Hatch of Utah that would make it easier for companies that use the H-1B visa program to displace and pass over U.S. workers.
Sanders continued, "I find it hard to understand that, when nine million people in this country have degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields, only about three million have jobs in these areas."
When the interviewer tried to make the case for a high-skilled labor shortage, Sanders shot back: "Again, if there is this great crisis which I am hearing about, that the American economy absolutely depends on having more high-tech workers, then the law of supply and demand is that when you need something, you pay for it, right? Didnt you learn that in elementary school?"
Sanders' comments on the Hatch amendment echo those of Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO, who called the measure an "unambiguous attack on American workers."
I agree. Yet Trumka still supports the bill (Sanders has not pledged a position) despite the fact that the Hatch amendment does to high-skilled U.S. workers what the larger bill does to all American workers.

Polls find the majority of Pennsylvania voters oppose the Gang of 8's bill. Make sure Sen. Toomey hears about it.
|
|
|
|
Dear Pennsylvania Activist,
Our NumbersUSA Hill team has told me that your Senator, Pat Toomey, has not decided how he will vote on S 744 - the Gang of 8's amnesty bill.
Majority Leader Harry Reid has said that debate on the bill will start on June 10th with a vote happening soon after. This week, Sen. Toomey is in state for the last recess before the vote.
Last Thursday Senator Bob Menendez, Democratic member of the Gang, told Univision that they do NOT have the votes right now for this bill to pass the Senate. He called for the pro-amnesty coalition to double down on activism during this recess.
Make sure your voice is heard this week. Don't let your Senator vote for this bill to appease wealthy special interests because she did not hear enough opposition from Pennsylvania voters. What Sen. Toomey hears at home this week will have a profound impact on how he votes.
Listed below are several ways you can make sure Senator Toomey knows that you oppose S 744. Please remember that each type of activism has a different level of impact.
1. Post a message to his Facebook wall. Impact level = 1 email
"I am an Pennsylvania voter who opposes the Gang of 8's immigration bill. It fails to fix our broken system or put an end to illegal immigration. It is amnesty first with a weak promise of enforcement later. I am asking you to please vote "NO" on S 744."
2. Tweet a message to your Senator Impact level = 1 email
You can use our pre-written tweets. Just make sure you are signed into your Twitter account and click the links below.
3. Attend a town hall or other event where your Senator is in attendance. Impact level = 100 emails
Sen. Toomey may be attending little league baseball games, visiting diners, speaking at a Rotary Club or VFW meeting, etc. These are great chances to give him our Pennsylvania poll numbers or just tell him face-to-face that you oppose the bill.
- Call Sen. Toomey's office and see what his schedule is for the week: (412) 803-3501
4. Or, attend a meeting with his staff on the road. Impact level = 50 emails
Many Senators hold "mobile office hours" or "traveling office hours." These events are when Senate staffers travel around the state and meet with constituents usually in smaller towns that are not close to the permanent Senate offices.
- Call Sen. Toomey's office and see if his staff has a meeting near you: (412) 803-3501
5. None of the above? Make an office visit. Impact level = 20 emails
If the least you can do is take 10 minutes out of your day to drop off materials to a Senate office, please do! NumbersUSA has some very vital materials that your Senator needs to see including polling and the list of flaws in the bill. The staffers in the offices should be available to take your materials and your message.
Sen. Toomey's state office:
- 1150 S. Cedar Crest Blvd, Suite 101, Allentown, PA 18103
Phone: (610) 434-1444
- 17 South Park Row, Suite B-120, Erie, PA 16501
Phone : (814) 453-3010
- 228 Walnut St., Suite 1104, Harrisburg, PA 17101
Phone: (717) 782-3951
- Richland Square III, Suite 302, 1397 Eisenhower Blvd, Johnstown, PA 15904
Phone: (814) 266-5970
- 8 Penn Center, 1628 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Suite 1702, Philadelphia, PA 19103
Phone: (215) 241-1090
- 100 W. Station Square Dr., Suite 225, Pittsburgh, PA 15219
Phone: (412) 803-3501
- 538 Spruce Street, Suite 302, Scranton, PA 18503
Phone: (570) 941-3540
Some helpful materials for you to bring to any meeting or town hall...
- The Gang of 8's amnesty bill will not fix the broken system or stop illegal immigration. Rather, it will repeat the mistakes of 1986 by giving amnesty first (work permits and a legal status) to illegal aliens and only promises enforcement later. Read NumbersUSA's two-pager on the bill.
- Latest polls show that an overwhelming majority is against this process. Americans clearly want enforcement first. You can print out these poll numbers to bring with you.
Please be aware that all the materials you may need to have a successful week of activism and keep up with news on the bill can be found here.
If you would like additional materials please including the full poll from Pennsylvania, email me and I will make sure to get those materials to you promptly. Also please email me with any feedback from an office visit or meeting.
Thank you for your time,
