More whistleblowers will emerge shortly in the escalating Benghazi scandal, according to two former U.S. diplomats who spoke with PJ Media Monday afternoon.
These whistleblowers, colleagues of the former diplomats, are currently securing legal counsel because they work in areas not fully protected by the Whistleblower law.
According to the diplomats, what these whistleblowers will say will be at least as explosive as what we have already learned about the scandal, including details about what really transpired in Benghazi that are potentially devastating to both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
The former diplomats inform PJM the new revelations concentrate in two areas - what Ambassador Chris Stevens was actually doing in Benghazi and the pressure put on General Carter Ham, then in command of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) and therefore responsible for Libya, not to act to protect jeopardized U.S. personnel.
Stevens' mission in Benghazi, they will say, was to buy back Stinger missiles from al-Qaeda groups issued to them by the State Department, not by the CIA. Such a mission would usually be a CIA effort, but the intelligence agency had opposed the idea because of the high risk involved in arming "insurgents" with powerful weapons that endanger civilian aircraft.
Where was President Obama on the night of the Benghazi attacks? No one seems to know.?
It's a relatively simple question: where was President Obama on the night of the Benghazi attacks? No one seems to know. Yesterday White House spokesman Dan Pfeiffer was grilled about the location of the President that night and his pathetic response indicates the President was probably not where he should have been.
"They are changing the story. Every time I hear the White House, they are changing the story, and no one is tracking the story.
During a contentious back and forth with Chris Wallace, Pfeiffer refused to say where President Obama was during the attack on the Benghazi consulate.
"This is different than what he said before. What he said before was that the president wasn't involved, he didn't need to be involved," Glenn said.
Glenn explained that he believes that President Obama was kept out of the loop so he wouldn't be a witness to a situation that involved running guns to the rebels in Syria.
"Why isn't the president in the situation room when he's upstairs going to sleepy sleep? Why did they make it such a point? Why would Leon Panetta come out and say what he said during an election, that the president, there was no phone calls, there was no e-mails, there was no phone calls, no contact. No contact with anyone in the White House all night long. Why? Why? To keep him clean of the real crime," Glenn said. "Even the death of the ambassador, I am sorry to say, is not the real crime. The one they are trying to cover up is not the ambassador's death. It is running guns to the Muslim Brotherhood. Period. And the longer you spend trying to figure out why they're trying to do these things, the longer you spend not tying it to what was going on in that annex in the first place, the farther away from the truth you get."
Watch the exchange between Wallace and Pfeiffer below:
A man with blood-soaked hands holding what appeared to be a meat cleaver and a machete spoke out at the gruesome scene of a suspected terror attack that left one man dead in broad daylight in London on Wednesday, telling a cameraman, "you people will never be safe."
According to reports, two men attacked and killed a third man near a London military barracks, shouting "Allahu Akbar." The London Daily Telegraph characterized the attack as "Islamist terror."Unconfirmed reports stated the man killed was a soldier. Two U.K. government officials told the Associated Press the attack seemed to be motivated by radical Islam.
"We swear by Almighty Allah, we will never stop fighting you until you leave us alone. The only reasons we killed this man is because Muslims are dying daily. This British soldier is an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth," the man with bloodied hands told a camera, as the victim's body lay nearby. " I apologize that women had to witness this today, but in our land, our women have to see the same! You people will never be safe. Remove your government, they don't care about you!"
FROM THE DIRECTOR OF GODS AND GENERALS AND GETTYSBURG COMES THE LIBERTY MOVIE OF THE YEAR
RON MAXWELL'S COPPERHEAD
For anyone who reveres and believes in the preservation of the Constitution of the United States, Copperhead is a must see this summer!
Copperhead is unlike any Civil War movie to date. It is a film of the war at home - of a family ripped apart by war, of a community driven to an appalling act of vengeance against a man who insists on exercising his right to free speech during wartime. A story of the violent passions and burning feuds that set ablaze the homefront during the Civil War, Copperhead the movie is also a timeless and deeply moving examination of the price of dissent, the place of the individual amidst the hysteria of wartime, and the terrible price of war - a cost measured not in dollars but in fractured families, broken loves, and men dead before their time.
Based on the extraordinary novel by Harold Frederic, who witnessed these conflicts firsthand as a small child, Copperhead tells the story of Abner Beech, a stubborn and righteous farmer of Upstate New York, who defies his neighbors and his government in the bloody and contentious autumn of 1862.
You are invited to join a conference call with Glenn Beck on Wednesday, May 29 at 12:00 PM Eastern (11:00 AM Central, 10:00 AM Mountain, 9:00 AM Pacific). Glenn will address the mounting threats to Israel and what we can do to stand with Israel today.
We are only able to reserve a limited number of lines for this conference call. Please click herenow to sign up before the call is filled. We are providing access to this call on a first-come first-serve basis.
Whether Catholic or not.......
Whether or not Pennsylvanians will be paying for abortions through the Affordable Care Act is largely in the hands of our state senate and Governor Tom Corbett "governor@pa.gov."As per the below message from the Pennsylvania Catholic Conference,
"HB 818 passed the House in April and it is now the Senate's turn to take up this important legislation. Your senator needs to hear from you today- tell him or her to vote 'yes' on HB 818 with no amendments....
Of the four senators from Bucks County, only Senator Bob Mensch "bmensch@pasen.gov" receives a very unfavorable rating from pro-abortion Planned Parenthood. Bucks County should be rightfully proud of this ProLife champion!
Pro-abortion Planned Parenthood gives mixed ratings to both Senator Stewart Greenleaf "sgreenleaf@pasen.gov" and to Senator Tommy Tomlinson "rtomlinson@pasen.gov." Greenleaf and Tomlinson need strong pro life feedback from Bucks Countians!
Pro-abortion Planned Parenthood sees Senator Chuck McIlhinney "cmcilhinney@pasen.gov" as one of its own! Considering that McIlhinney identifies himself as a Catholic, this is absolutely scandalous and needs to be made clear as such by ALL of Bucks County's clergy. As per Pope Francis,
no one can "receive Holy Communion and at the same time act with deeds or words against the commandments, particularly when abortion, euthanasia, and other grave crimes against life and family are encouraged. This responsibility weighs particularly over legislators, heads of governments, and health professionals" (cf, http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/francesco/letters/2013/index_en.htm).

Dear Members and Friends,
We extend our heartfelt prayers to the victims of yesterday's tornados that devastated a suburb of Oklahoma City. While the death count is uncertain at this time, it is believed that at least 50 people, many of them children, have perished in the disaster.
As soon as relief efforts are announced, we will forward the information along to you.
IRS Scandal Smoking Gun?
Never did we imagine that a smoking gun--directly linking President Obama to the IRS scandal--would emerge so soon. But that seems to be the case.
The American Spectator is reporting that the 'smoking gun' link between the IRS scandal and the Obama administration--including President Obama himself--is an IRS employee named Colleen Kelley, president of the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU).
Ms. Kelley, who met frequently with the President and his staff, visited the White House the day before the IRS began clamping down on Tea Party and other conservative organizations.
The following American Spectator articles tell the story:
And now, we have just learned that IRS official Lois Lerner will plead the 5th when she testifies before the House Oversight Committee tomorrow!
Also, in our last email, we mentioned that since the Association's 'first in the nation'
call for a special prosecutor, many other prominent local and national figures have joined the call--that list includes WPHT's Rich Zeoli, Peggy Noonan, and Governor Mitt Romney.
In addition, most of the region's Republican congressional delegation, including Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick--and the area's dean of talk radio, WPHT's Dom Giordano are also calling for a Special Prosecutor.
Our region's Republican congressional delegation--Pat Meehan, Jim Gerlach, Joe Pitts, Mike Fitzpatrick, Chris Smith, and Jon Runyan have done a stellar job in trying to get to the bottom of the both the IRS and Benghazi scandals.
Association Editorial
Jenny Beth Martin and the national Tea Party Patriots should study the law of diminishing returns.
Today, they held poorly planned, poorly timed protest rallies at IRS offices across the nation. The media is reporting that 10 people attended the rally in Pittsburgh and 15 people attended the rally in Philadelphia. (See news story below.)
Every time Tea Party Patriots hold protest rallies, fewer and fewer people turn out--whether in DC or nationally.
We have to be smart, careful, and tactical about why, when, and where we hold rallies or we will no longer be considered relevant.
Holding rallies for the sake of getting attention is not sound strategy. There must a purpose--such as a call for Special Prosecutor.
Reminder: PA Primary Today
PA municipal and judicial primary elections are taking place today. Even though many of these races are uncontested, we urge you to vote anyway.
DE, NJ, PA Legislative Alerts
In Delaware and New Jersey, we are on the defense regarding 'gun control' legislation.
After passing a 'gay marriage' bill earlier this month, the Delaware Legislature will take up gun control issues dealing with magazine capacities, mental health, and school zones when it returns from recess the first week of June.
The New Jersey Senate is expected to vote on separate bills limiting magazine capacity and banning .50-caliber weapons on May 30. Please call your State Senator ASAP and urge him/her to vote no!
To find your Senator and his/her contact information, please visit:
In PA, we are on offense. Two extremely important issues demand immediate attention.
The PA House has passed both an Abortion Opt Out of ObamaCare bill and a Liquor Privatization bill. The Abortion Opt Out legislation would stop taxpayer funding of abortion in the Commonwealth. Nearly 90% of Pennsylvanians oppose taxpayer funded abortion. This bill has been voted out of committee in the Senate and awaits a full floor vote, which could occur any day.
Please call your State Senator and urge him/her to pass the Abortion Opt Out bill. To locate your Senator and his/her contact information, please visit:
Last but not least, the Liquor Privatization bill is being held up in committee by State Senator Chuck McIlhinney (R-Bucks). Both Senator McIlhinney and Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi (R-Delaware, Chester) will decide whether the bill makes it to the Senate floor for a final passage.
If you live in PA, please flood these two Senators with calls. Urge them to support the Liquor Privatization bill: Senator McIlhinney, 717.787.7305; Senator Pileggi, 717.787.4712.
Pot of Gold Money Drop
Our April/May Pot of Gold Money Drop has passed the half-way mark!
We hope to continue our efforts to restore limited government and free market
principles--despite the opposition of the IRS, President Obama, and his allies--but we need your help!
Many thanks to those who have already "dropped a donation!" So far, we have raised $3,100! If each of you gave just $5, we would surpass our goal many times over.
$5000
As an extra incentive:
* Those giving a $25 donation will receive an Independence Hall Tea Party t-shirt as our thank you.
* Those giving a $50 donation will receive one Independence Hall Tea Party golf shirt or two t-shirts as our thank you.
* Those giving a $100 donation will receive two Independence Hall Tea Party golf shirts as our thank you.

On Thursday, May 30, the organization Friends of Israel will celebrate its 75th anniversary of helping Jews and the Jewish State of Israel with a gala in Voorhees, N.J. We hope you will attend their reasonably priced dinner as a show of support and unity.
As you will note, this Christian Zionist group began its mission 10 years before Israel was re-established. They were originally known as "The Friends of Israel Refugee Relief Committee." To this day they continue to be advocates for Israel throughout the world and lead an annual mission to Israel. Though this group is international in scope, it is based in South Jersey.
Friends of Israel leadership have attended our Philadelphia ZOA Gala each year and last year we honored its immediate past executive director, William Sutter, and his wife, Annette. We see Bill (who is still quite active) and his successor, Jim Showers, at nearly every pro-Israel event in the region. They truly are, as their name indicates, "friends of Israel."
Tickets are just $45. The event takes place at The Mansion on Main Street, on May 30, beginning at 5:30 p.m.........
Kosher meals are available
Please call me at our Office for all of the details at 610-660-9466. I hope you will be able to attend.
Thank you,
Steve

WITH TRADITONAL VALUES, STRONG CONVICTIONS & FAITH IN OUR CONSTITUTION, HEAR MICHELLE BACHMANN'S VISION FOR OUR NATION.
In 2006, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann became the first Republican woman to be elected to represent Minnesota in the U.S. House of Representatives. As a self-proclaimed "Constitutional Conservative" she is committed to fixing Washington's broken ways by advocating for America's adherence to the Constitution. As a believer in the traditional values upon which this country was founded, Bachmann consistently defends America's religious liberties and the importance of family as the first unit of government. As the federal government continues to grow under the current administration, Bachmann was honored to establish the Tea Party Caucus in July 2010. She is proud to stand with the Tea Party to call for lower taxes, renewed focus on the Constitution and smaller government.

And here's some really great news: This year's registration fee is only $229! Register by April 15th and you'll receive our "Early Bird" rate of just $189!
We also offer again this year special benefits for Patriot Eagle and Patriot sponsors.
We have some exciting new wrinkles planned for this year's event, and our list of confirmed speakers already includes:
Steven Emerson - Journalist, author, and the Executive Editor of the Investigative Project on Terrorism. A. M. Rosenthal, late-managing editor of The New York Times, described Emerson as "one of the nation's best national security correspondents."

Ezra Levant - Canadian lawyer, author, newspaper columnist with Sun Media, and former publisher of the Western Standard. Hauled before a Canadian "human rights commission" because he published the Danish cartoons that satirized Muhammad, Levant's personal account of a politically correct government inquisition is something you won't want to miss!
The National Conference & Legislative Briefing will begin on Wed. evening, June 19th, and conclude on Friday, June 21st at noon, with additional optional training sessions Friday afternoon.
It will again feature our very popular Capitol Hill Awards Luncheon and our signature gala banquet-and of course, our Legislative Briefing, where Members of Congress will brief you on various issues and answer your questions.

2013 RedState Gathering -- Early Bird Special
Dear RedStater,
We announced earlier this week that we'll be headed to New Orleans the first weekend in August for this year's RedState Gathering. As a member of our RedState family, we'd like to extend exclusive Early Bird registration and pricing to you (just use the promo code EARLYBIRD on the registration page).
The 2013 RedState Gathering will be held August 2-3 at the Westin Canal Place in New Orleans, LA. We'll have two full days of speakers and activities and you can expect a good mix of elected officials and potential candidates for the 2014 cycle (we'll keep you informed as additions are made).
The Gathering has always been a unique event, in that all speakers, even the most in-demand and influential, pay their own way and make their own travel arrangements. This helps keep our costs low, a savings we are happy to pass along to our conference attendees. Additionally, we strive to get you up close to the speakers, ask them to take your questions, and we take care of nearly all your meals during the conference. Bottom line: fewer frills, more thrills and access.
We are thrilled to once again be joined by Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, who will be hosting a reception for all attendees and appear at the Gathering podium as a keynote speaker. A huge hit in 2012, we're looking forward to Gov. Jindal playing an even larger role this year as he welcomes us to his home state.
Now, more than ever, true conservative activists must come together to exchange ideas and strategize for the future. That's what this year's Gathering is all about. We hope you'll join us.
P.S. Don't delay! You'll receive 20% off if you register today - just use the promo code EARLYBIRD. Click here.
From a trusted friend:
As some of you may know, I am associated with Coventry Christian Schools as a parent of a graduate (2010) and as member of the Board of Trustees. Last October we spent a wonderful evening honoring Mark Niehls at our revitalized Founder's Dinner and celebrated our shared heritage in the remarkable community that is Coventry Christian Schools. Our vision for future Founder's Dinners is to inspire and inform not only our alumni and current CCS families but to inspire and inform the Tri-County Area and even our region by hosting speakers and artists who can uniquely assist us in celebrating the heritage, core values, and mission of CCS while also lifting our vision for an even greater future built upon the foundation of our past. The caliber of our speakers and guest artists should provide us with wonderful opportunities to share our CCS story with new partners in Christian education. Proceeds from the dinner will be applied to our annual Coventry Kids Fund for CCS scholarships.
This year we are proud to announce that our distinguished guest and speaker is Dr. Benjamin Carson, and our dinner's theme is "Faith of Our Fathers: The Role of Faith in American Schools." Please join us as we welcome Dr. Carson to the Tri-County Area and celebrate the great things God is doing at CCS!
Dr. Carson is a highly regarded neurosurgeon and motivational speaker who has addressed various audiences across the country. He is one of the most honored and recognized physicians in the world and holds more than 60 honorary doctorate degrees along with hundreds of awards and citations. He is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States. He is the author of five books and is the founder of the Carson Scholars Fund. The 2009 award-winning movie entitled Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. as Carson, premiered on TNT and is based on his memoir. Dr. Carson is an authentic disciple of Christ, has been married to his wife Candy for more than 37 years, and is the father of three sons.
The 2013 Founder's Dinner, which will once again be a part of our Homecoming festivities, will be held at the historic Sunnybrook Ballroom in Pottstown on Sunday, October 13th, 2013. Doors will open at 4:30pm, followed by dinner at 5:15. Dress will be business/professional. Tickets will be priced at $100 until May 15th, then will be $125, so reserve your tickets for the reduced price.
Due to Dr. Carson's international reputation and recent prominence in the media, including his recent speech at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast, we fully anticipate that this event will sell out quickly once advertised to the public. Tickets go on sale to the public April 15. If you are interested in attending, tickets can be purchased online. I will send the link out to those who wish to go on April 15
th
. While online reservations are preferred because they facilitate efficient event planning, you may also complete a paper order form, which I can forward to you as well.
All of us at Coventry Christian Schools, look forward to sharing this very special evening with you and acquainting you with the school and its mission!
Blessings,
Christine Gordon

Heritage Foundation weighs in on Common Core
By Rachel Sheffield April 11, 2013: Policy Analyst, The Heritage Foundation (courtesy of Citizens' Alliance of Pennsylvania)This coming school year, Pennsylvania public schools will begin implementing the Common Core education standards. Like many other states, Common Core standards are quickly making their way into the classroom. While proponents of the standards continue to champion their predicted benefits, there is significant cause for concern.First, the standards represent a massive federal overreach. The Obama Administration jumped on board from the get go, promoting national education standards, via policy and federal taxpayer dollars, as part of their education agenda. Billions of federal dollars have gone towards and are continuing to fund, the promotion and implementation of these standards nationwide. The federal government's involvement with the standards should be alarming. Pushing state and local leaders away from classroom curriculum is not only a breach in federalism but gives parents, teachers, and communities less say over what children learn in school. Education experts have also raised alarm over the quality of the standards. Sandra Stotsky, Professor of Education Reform at the University of Arkansas, has particularly expressed concern over the English Language Arts. Common Core's ELA standards reduce emphasis on literature by promoting the study of "informational texts." Stotsky says
, "A diminished emphasis on literature in the secondary grades makes it unlikely that American students will study a meaningful range of culturally and historically significant literary works before graduation. It also prevents students from acquiring a rich understanding and use of the English language. Perhaps of greatest concern, it may lead to a decreased capacity for analytical thinking."
Common Core goes SOCIAL MEDIA!!! Please share with everyone you know and help us make this a huge success. MARK YOUR CALENDAR!!! Not a TWITTER person.....grab a kid and have some fun.
Parent-Led Reform (@ParentLedReform) will host a Twitter Rally on April 16, 2013 which will start will go from 12:00p-2:00p (EST). We will discuss how the Common Core State Standards effect your family, community and schools? We invite you to participate.
There will be an expert panel and several organizations that will discuss#StopCommonCore. So far I know the panel will consist of:
I'll update with a live link for the Twitter Rally (or you can just follow the hashtag #StopCommonCore) and as the expert panel is finalized.
Update: Be sure to RSVP with the Facebook event invite, this will help keep you up to date with pertinent info.
The whole story on Common Core
Read the sourced and footnoted response to the National Review Online and get all the facts you need to know about Common Core HERE. Compiled by American Principles project and Glenn's research team.
Common Core is the new set of federal education standards being pushed by the Obama administration and several leftist organizations but it's even seeing some support from some conservatives.
defending Common Core, and Glenn gave the definitive response on radio today."Common Core is something that we didn't really get for quite some time and again it's something we've learned from the 9/12 project and concerned parents all around the country that have been bringing this to our attention. When we started in on this work, we thought it was pretty bad. The more we do, the worse it becomes," Glenn said.
Below are some of the points made by the National Review Online in defense of Common Core, followed by Glenn's response.
Today on radio, Glenn gave the definitive response. See that and get all the sources to back it up HERE.
Students in some Albany High School English classes were asked to participate in the unthinkable this week as part of a persuasive writing assignment. The objective? Prove why Jews are evil and convince the teacher of their loyalty to the Third Reich in five paragraphs or less. See the actual lessonHERE.
A concerned parent tipped off TheBlaze to the disturbing fact that NY public schools are teaching the U.N.'s Socialist-leaning Universal Human Rights. We also discovered that the schools are delivering this indoctrination using videos made by the Church of Scientology. Learn what our investigation revealedHERE.
TheBlaze has been at the forefront in uncovering the disturbing details of the nationalized curriculum standard known as Common Core. One of the most troubling aspects of this federal program is that government bureaucrats are currently mining sensitive and highly personal information on children through Common Core's tracking system. Watch the powerful segments from The Glenn Beck Program HERE.

"This fantastic documentary is both entertaining and educational" - Dove Foundation
Rev. C.L. Bryant's documentary Runaway Slave has been a runaway hit! The film recently won the Crystal Dove Seal, and has been making waves across the country.
Runaway Slave is the story of C.L. Bryant, a former NAACP Chapter president who realized that the Democrat Party and progressive movement was hurting Africa-Americans and keeping them stuck on the government dole. Rev. Bryant discusses the impact of progressivism on the African-American community and how freedom works with a host of leaders including Dr. Alveda King, Herman Cain, Allen West, Dr. Thomas Sowell, and many others.
The Crystal Dove Seal award is given to films that are family-friendly and provide wholesome, educational content. Runaway Slave is an important movie for all audiences, and it has a message that should be heard if we want to achieve a society where character is king.
Congratulations to Rev. C.L. Bryant and the Runaway Slave team on their achievement!

Please pass this information to all those on your list! Thank you.
It should come as no surprise that President Obama told Ohio State students at graduation ceremonies recently that they should not question authority and they should reject the calls of those who do. He argued that "our brave, creative, unique experiment in self-rule" has been so successful that trusting the government is the same as trusting ourselves; hence, challenging the government is the same as challenging ourselves. And he blasted those who incessantly warn of government tyranny.
Yet, mistrust of government is as old as America itself. America was born out of mistrust of government. The revolution that was fought in the 1770s and 1780s was actually won in the minds of colonists in the mid-1760s when the British imposed the Stamp Act and used writs of assistance to enforce it. The Stamp Act required all persons in the colonies to have government-sold stamps on all documents in their possession, and writs of assistance permitted search warrants written by British troops in which they authorized themselves to enter private homes ostensibly to look for the stamps.
We want to express our deepest sympathies to the people of Oklahoma in the aftermath of the tragic storms. What happened is truly devastating. Our hearts and prayers go out to all those affected -- including the emergency responders, and others, who are helping in the recovery effort. True the Vote encourages those who are able to help the victims and the rebuilding efforts in Oklahoma to donate to Mercury One, where 100% of all proceeds go directly to meet the needs of the people in the Moore, OK area.
Friend -
I wanted to alert you to breaking news about True the Vote and our ongoing fight with the IRS. We've been harassed and jumped through hoops for three years - and now the nation knows our story.
True the Vote's attorneys filed a lawsuit against the IRS in Washington this morning. Our demands are simple: give TTV an answer to our tax-exempt application, and tell us who knew we were being targeted.
We have proven over the years that citizen engagement can change the way we operate our elections for the better. Today, we're taking our culture of accountability straight to the heart of Washington.
This is going to be a major fight - but the truth will come out in court.
If I were granted one wish about the state of today's politics it would be for the Democrats to be saddled with their own version of John McCain.Once again, McCain is working to score points for Democrats and undermine Cruz/Paul and Lee - the "Wacko Birds" - in their attempt to prevent a free debt ceiling increase.
Back in January, Republicans and conservatives got together at Williamsburg and agreed to "suspend" the debt ceiling law until May 18 in return for the Senate passing a budget.I never liked the idea because, among other reasons, a Senate-passed budget is not such a good thing.Yes, they are not so excited about publicizing their blueprint for more debt, and yes, the fact that they didn't pass a budget for over 3 years was a good talking point. But do we really want them to have a vehicle for fast-tracking tax increases, debt ceiling increases, and other nefarious policies through reconciliation?
That concern is shared by Senators Cruz, Lee, and Paul. They are also concerned that if the Senate goes to conference with the House on the FY 2014 budget, they will slip in a debt ceiling increase.Once that becomes part of the conference report, it would be privileged and inoculated from the filibuster or the amendment process. To that end, they have decided to block Harry Reid's unanimous consent request to go to conference over the budget until they agree not to slip in a debt ceiling increase.Needless to say, the Democrats have not made that commitment.I wonder why.
In comes John McCain, Obama's newest ally, along with Susan Collins to chide the actions of the conservative senators as bizarre and unprecedented. He's right. It is unprecedented for new members of the Senate to take a leadership role in defending the country from the bipartisan statism that he has propagated so fervently over the past two decades. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2.A Timeline of Islamic Expansion In The Dark Ages
Let me put down here some facts that are worth returning to from time to time, as arguments over the history of Islam and Islamism are back in the news with today's beheading in London. In debates over the history of tension between Muslims and Christians, the Crusades are often cited, out of their historical context, as the original cause of such clashes, as if both sides were peaceably minding their own business before imperialist Westerners decided to go launch a religious war in Muslim lands.
This is not what actually happened, and indeed it is ahistorical to treat the fragmented feudal states of the West in the Eleventh Century as capable of any such thing as imperialism or colonialism (although, as Victor Davis Hanson has noted, even in the centuries after the fall of Rome, Western civilization retained a superior logistical ability to project force overseas due to the scientific, economic and military legacies of ancient Greece and Rome). Moreover, when Islam first arose, much of what we think of today as Islamic 'territory' in Anatolia, the Levant and North Africa was Christian until conquered by the heirs of Muhammad, such that speaking of one side's incursions into the other's territory requires you to ignore how that territory was seized in the first place. That entire region had been part of the Roman and later Byzantine empires, and was culturally part of the West until it was conquered by Muslim arms - Rome is closer geographically to Tripoli than to London, Madrid is closer to Casablanca than to Berlin, Athens is closer to Damascus than to Paris.
All that said, it's worth remembering that the Crusades arose in the late Eleventh Century only after four centuries of relentless Islamic efforts to conquer Europe, and the Christians of the Crusading era cannot be evaluated without that crucial context.. . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3."Immigration Reform" and Political Parlance
The best way to win a political argument is by manipulating the rhetoric used to describe the two sides in a debate. The Democrats and the Chuck Schumer Republicans have done a marvelous job hijacking the term "reform" and deriding those who oppose their bill to grant mass amnesty, double record immigration levels, and hamper future enforcement, as anti "immigration reform."They have repeated the term "immigration reform" so incessantly that they are starting to sound like the sheep in Animal Farm. That's why I prefer to call the bill immigration deform instead of amnesty. It is a lot worse than amnesty; it is the antithesis of everything that is reform-minded. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4.Democrats, Corruption ... and Pie
Under normal circumstances, we might not notice when a small-state Democratic elected official resigns from office in disgrace. But in Martha Shoffner's case, we'll make an exception. Not out of schadenfreude, mind you, but an inquisitive exploration of the mind of the corruptocrat, and their deep-seated yearning for pie. They're not satisfied with a mere slice. 5.Why Jindal is Right To Reject Medicaid Expansion
Right now, the Louisiana Legislature is considering legislation to force Governor Jindal to accept the Medicaid expansion portion of Obamacare, and some Republican legislators are supporting it. While I may not agree with our governor 100 percent of the time, Gov. Jindal is 100 percent right in rejecting the expansion.
Over time, the Medicaid expansion will impose a greater financial burden on Louisiana's state government, leading to further budget shortfalls and jeopardizing funding to our educational system and vital infrastructure projects that create jobs. Additionally, those Louisiana citizens who are currently receiving services under Medicaid will find their services diminished. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
6.Google Needs Extra Time to Spy on Your Kids
It seems that Google is constantly falling afoul of conservatives, consumers, pundits, regulators and really everyone else on earth (except for the Obama campaign) for its privacy-infringing tendencies.
It got hammered for "alleged" spying in the Safarigate scandal, where it wound up agreeing to a record-breaking $22.5 million fine in connection with charges it surreptitiously tracked Apple Safari users who Google had said could opt out of tracking, and did what Google said was necessary to opt out. This spying of course enabled Google to grab data it shouldn't have had, to improve its highly profitable targeted ad business, and do it in a way that amounted to a violation of its contract with users. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
1.Serfdom for dummies
Serfdom is making a big comeback these days.It never really went out of style, of course, but it's remarkable how many people are now willing to submit to government authority without question, or without much in the way of expectations.Shoddy performance, from fiscal insolvency to a moribund economy, is no cause for outrage among the modern serfs. They accept the "New Normal" without question, believing they live in the best of all possible worlds, because it's now about five years removed from the worst.
That's an important principle for the serf to accept: Success is measured by the suffering of your enemies. It doesn't matter if your taxes go up, provided some hated rich guy's taxes go up more.It doesn't matter if the economy is weak, provided "income inequality" is under attack.Daily life is a means toward the end of elections.Any dissatisfaction you might feel with your political leadership is easily re-directed against their opponents. This keeps the bar set nice and low for the leadership of your team.Who cares if you're hurting, as long as bad people are hurting worse? . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2.Mitch McConnell Supports Schumer's Amnesty/Immigration Deform Bill
It looks like Mitch McConnell's pass from Chuck Schumer to publicly remain silent on the amnesty bill has expired.
While McConnell has come out of the witness protection program to attack the 'low-hanging fruit' IRS scandal with alacrity, he has remained silent on the most profound threat to our Republic - the Schumer immigration reform bill. How can the sitting GOP leader remain silent on a bill that will compound the mistakes he voted for in 1986 and create a permanent Democrat majority? How can the top Republican in the Senate remain insouciant toward the Obamacare-style discretion that is afforded to DHS in a way that will make future deportations almost impossible? How can a self-described conservative be indiffernet to a bill that will chart a pathway to welfare benefits for millions of low-skilled illegal and legal immigrants within just a few years?
Well, it's quite simple.Chuck Schumer is the defacto GOP leader in the Senate. All he has to do is craft legislation, and Republicans will ask how many votes he needs.
Earlier today, McConnell told The Hill's Alex Bolton that he will support the motion to proceed with debate on the amnesty bill, noting that "the status quo is not good." . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

I used to know a man whose family were German aristocracy prior to World War II. They owned a number of large industries and estates. I asked him how many German people were true Nazis, and the answer he gave has stuck with me and guided my attitude toward fanaticism ever since.
"Very few people were true Nazis," he said, "but many enjoyed the return of German pride, and many more were too busy to care. I was one of those who just thought the Nazis were a bunch of fools. So, the majority just sat back and let it all happen. Then, before we knew it, they owned us, and we had lost control, and the end of the world had come. My family lost everything. I ended up in a concentration camp and the Allies destroyed my factories."
We are told again and again by experts and talking heads that Islam is the religion of peace, and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace. Although this unquantified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the specter of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam.
The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history. It is the fanatics who march. It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars world wide. It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave. It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or execute honor killings. It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque. It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape victims and homosexuals. The hard, quantifiable fact is that the "peaceful majority" is the "silent majority," and it is cowed and extraneous.
So if I were investigating Benghazi, I'd be homing in on that 10 p.m. phone call. That's the one between President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton - the one that's gotten close to zero attention.

May 21, 2013 DHS guidelines even worse than previously thought
The Daily Caller story below (highlights added) underscores what we've been saying for nearly four years about the Obama administration's denial of jihad as a motivation for terrorism.
According to the story, 2011 Department of Homeland Security guidelines not only discourage investigating leads related to jihad, but federal agents are even discouraged from reaching out to "Muslim reformers"!!!!
"Don't use trainers ... who are self-professed 'Muslim reformers' ... [or who] equate radical thought [or] religious expressions ... with criminal activity," say the training guidelines.
And just when you think it couldn't possibly get any worse, it does:
The training guidelines go so far as to urge federal officials to rely on a political report by the Muslim Public Affairs Committee (MPAC), a Los Angeles, California-based Islamic advocacy group with extensive ties to jihadists and Islamist groups, including the Egypt-based Muslim Brotherhood.
To summarize, Department of Homeland "Security" guidelines mean:
A jihadist can't be investigated just because he's a jihadist;
Reformist Muslims like Zuhdi Jasser and Tawfik Hamid, who understand the ideology of radical Islam and sharia law, are not to be used to educate federal officials;
"Go-to" sources of information for federal agents include materials provided by Muslim Brotherhood-connected organizations and leaders.
In short, the Muslim Brotherhood has effectively seized control of Department of Homeland Security guidelines for investigating terrorism.

Experts on Islam and terrorism are decrying the Department of Homeland Security's recently revealed anti-terrorism training guidelines, which pressure cops to ignore Islamic beliefs when investigating terror crimes.
The Boston bombings demonstrated the impact of such training, Andrew McCarthy, a former New York prosecutor, told The Daily Caller.
"The Boston Marathon was bombed by a jihadist who had been investigated by the FBI ... [and was confirmed in 2011 to be] an Islamist, which would have been hard not to do since he does not appear to have made any secret of it," said McCarthy, who persuaded a New York jury in 1995 to convict "Blind Sheikh" Omar Abdel-Rahman for his use of Islamic teaching to spur jihad attacks, including the 1993 attack against the Twin Towers.
But before the bombing, "the FBI closed its file [on Tamerlan Tsarnaev] because it found this did not constitute 'derogatory information,'" McCarthy said.
McCarthy and other security experts, and even members of the American Islamic community, indicate that a culture of excessive concern for the sensibilities of Muslims supremacists is preventing law enforcement agencies from pursuing jihadists.
Under the federal guidelines, "agents are admonished to discount the possibility that an Islamist's constitutionally protected abhorrence of the United States might possibly lead to violence," McCarthy told TheDC.
Even if FBI officials had learned about Tsarnaev's 2012 trip to a part of southern Russia that is embroiled in a jihadi war, they would not have restarted their 2011 investigation, a government official told the Washington Post in April.
"The FBI investigation into the individual in question had been closed six months prior to his departure from the United States and more than a year before his return. ...Since there was no derogatory information, there was no reason to suggest that additional action was warranted," the official said in April.
On his six-month trip, starting in January 2012, Tsarnaev visited several militant Islamic leaders and mosques in Dagestan, where jihadis are fighting the Russian government, according to several U.S. and Russian media sources.
"The fiasco regarding Boston is a prime example" of how bad training degrades security, said Robert Spencer, an authority on Islamic doctrine who is heavily criticized by Islamic groups in the United States. He noted that even though FBI agents had interviewed Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the FBI was unable to identify Tsarnaev in crowd photographs taken before and after the bomb strike.
After the attack, FBI officials also did not ask the main mosque in Boston for help in identifying the suspects, said Nichole Mossalam, a spokeswoman for the Islamic Society of Boston.
"We were the ones who reached out to them ... on Friday" once the picture were released, Mossalam told TheDC.
Because of the guidelines, it would be "a 'profiling' scandal to show the pictures at the mosque just because it was a bombing with ... no other evidence of connection to Muslims," he said.
The guidelines, titled "Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Training Do's and Don'ts," don't merely promote respect for free expression but actively promote extremist views by telling officials to sideline experts who "venture too deep into the weeds of [Islamic] religious doctrines and history. ... [T]hese topics are not necessary in order to understand the [Muslim] community."
The DHS also actively discourages engagement with moderate Muslims. "Don't use trainers ... who are self-professed 'Muslim reformers' ... [or who] equate radical thought [or] religious expressions ... with criminal activity," say the training guidelines.
The guidelines also advise cops, "Don't use a trainer or training that has received repeated external negative feedback ... don't use training that treats the American Muslim community as a problem rather than as a partner ... don't use training that relies on fear [for example, by citing convictions that show] mainstream Muslim organizations have terrorist ties."
According to two former U.S. diplomats who spoke with PJ Media Monday afternoon, more whistleblowers will emerge shortly in the escalating Benghazi scandal. What these whistleblowers will say will be at least as explosive as what we have already learned about the scandal, including details about what really transpired in Benghazi that are potentially devastating to both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
From all the discussion of requiring universal firearms background checks, you might assume that this is an entirely untried idea in the United States. Not at all: there are at least thirteen states that have had, for some years, some sort of mandatory background check for firearms transfers -- with no effect on the murder rate.

Earlier this year, we alerted you about S. Res. 65, an important measure introduced by Senator Lindsey Graham.
Senator Graham saw the Tehran regime moving ever closer to its objective of obtaining nuclear weapons capability - and recognized that this is a critical moment for Israel's security.
S. Res. 65 - the measure he crafted to address this threat - will put the U.S. Senate on record in support of our key regional ally. Specifically, S. Res 65
strongly condemns the numerous threats against Israel that high-ranking Iranian officials have made,
acknowledges the grave threat posed to the United States, the West, and Israel by the Government of Iran's continuing pursuit of a nuclear weapons capability,
reiterates that the policy of the United States is to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, capability and to take such action as may be necessary to implement this policy,
recognizes that the United States has a vital national interest in ensuring the security of the State of Israel, and
urges that, if the Government of Israel is compelled to take military action in self-defense, the United States Government should stand with Israel by providing necessary diplomatic, military, and economic support.
The Senate is scheduled to vote on S. Res. 65 at 4 PM today.
TAKE ACTION
Call your U.S. Senators and urge them to vote in favor of S. Res. 65.

CHIEF IRS COUNSEL GOT HATE PREACHER JEREMIAH WRIGHT'S 'CHURCH' OUT OF IRS PROBE
Here's the thing -- imagine what we don't know about what this thug administration is doing. The goon-in-chief needs to go, but if, like Al Capone, the IRS is the way to throw the bum out (despite myriad impeachable offenses), so be it.
It's not as if the media or investigative arms of the government are exposing these scandals. It was the former IRS chiefLois Lerner who dropped the IRS bombshell in a planted question during a lawyers' conference earlier this month. The IRS broke the IRS story in the Friday (in a night news dump, of course).
Reverend Jeremiah "God damn America" Wright, Obama's long time hate preacher, got special treatment from the demagogue-in-chief.
Chief IRS Counsel Got Jeremiah Wright's Church out of IRS Probe Before Joining Agency By Matthew Boyle
News reports from the time indicate the now-chief counsel of the IRS, William Wilkins, helped a church connected to President Barack Obama's friend Rev. Jeremiah Wright get out of an IRS probe in 2008 while working as a private attorney.
"Lawyers from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have won the dismissal of an IRS case against United Church of Christ, Sen. Barack Obama's denomination," The American Lawyer's Zach Lowe wrote on May 22, 2008.
The IRS initiated an investigation early this year after a speech by Obama at a 50th anniversary celebration of the church last June. It was a reference by Obama to his presidential candidacy in a talk otherwise focused on faith that caught the agency's attention. Tax laws prohibit non-profits--including churches--from engaging in political speech or promoting candidates. The IRS can withdraw an organization's tax-free status if the organization is found to violate the rule.
FORMER COUNTERTERRORISM HEAD: FBI NEVER CALLED FT. HOOD 'WORKPLACE VIOLENCE'
It was Obama and his Muslim Brotherhood officials in his administration who called it workplace violence. What is so ghastly is that the Obama administration was more concerned with the welfare mass murdering jihadist than with the US soldiers who were killed.
U.S. Army soldiers bow their heads in prayer for their fallen comrades during the III Corps and Fort Hood Memorial Ceremony (Nov. '09)
The Obama administration's refusal to give the vicitms Purple Hearts speaks more to Obama's narcissism and self-obsession. It would mean Obama was the first President to issue Purple Hearts for acts of bravery on American soil since ..... Pearl Harbor. There is no way such a stain could be effaced from his record.
That tells you everything. And the way our Military brass has rolled over on all this is devastating.
Former Counterterrorism Head: FBI Never Called Ft. Hood 'Workplace Violence'Breitbart,May 20, 2013 (thanks to Van)
Michael Steinbach, former head of the FBI's counterterrorism division and now special agent in charge of Miami, told over 30 congressional staffers in March of 2012 that, contrary to the White House's classification, the bureau does not refer to the Fort Hood shooting as "workplace violence." As head of the FBI counterterrorism division, Steinbach oversaw the investigation into the mass murder at Texas Army base.
Steinbach made this claim during an unclassified counterterrorism briefing on Capitol Hill.

Revolutions are rarely undone from the outside. Mostly they come apart from the inside as the forty thieves descend into petty squabbling over the loot.
The loot comes in different forms, but at its core it is always power. It may be the power to kill or to steal. It may be the power to claim a nice piece of real estate or to send a million people off to their deaths. The scale of it will occupy historians and shock the people of the future who leaf through the history books and walk through the silent museums, but it is all of one piece. The purpose of power, as a fellow in a little book by George Orwell once said, is power.
The quarrel between Obama and the Media is largely a lovers' quarrel, but the love is only there on one side. The media made Obama what he is. But what he is, among many other things, is a control freak spawned by a political ideology that distrusts everyone and consolidates power at all cost.
The media loved Obama, but it discovered early on that he did not love it back. Instead of basking in the adoration of the Candy Crowleys and the Anderson Coopers and the massive corporate machines behind them, the love child of every liberal fantasy shut them out, rigidly controlled their access and ruthlessly punished unauthorized conversations with the press.
The media had made Obama into a tin god, but were constantly suspected of heresy. Instead of being rewarded for their loyalty, they were kept at arm's length.
Obama Inc. knew that their biggest asset was the narrative. A close study of Obama's qualifications or accomplishments would have given no conceivable reason for voting for him. The only thing he brought to the table was race and even in this he was less qualified than most of the black men who had run for president.
The narrative was the dearest treasure of Obama Inc. It was the one thing that its cronies protected. The economy could tank, wars could be lost and an asteroid could smack into the Pacific Ocean and none of it mattered nearly as much as the golden narrative. They didn't trust anyone with it including the media.
The IRS official over the division that reviews tax-exempt applications will invoke her Fifth Amendment right not to testify before Congress, her lawyer says.
Lois Lerner was scheduled to appear Wednesday before the House Oversight Committee. But in a letter to committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., her lawyer says she will not offer testimony under her constitutional rights against self-incrimination, the Los Angeles Times reports.
"She has not committed any crime or made any misrepresentation but under the circumstances she has no choice but to take this course," said the letter from Lerner's defense attorney William W. Taylor III.
Taylor says in the letter that the Department of Justice has launched a criminal investigation into why conservative groups were targeted for extra scrutiny and that Issa's committee has asked Lerner for an explanation why she gave "false or misleading information" four times in 2012.
Unions Turn Against Obamacare Fearing Lost Coverage
Tuesday, May 21, 2013 09:51 AM
By: Lisa Barron
The White House is losing support for Obamacare from some leading labor unions that are concerned their members could lose healthcare coverage once the program is fully implemented.
The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) said it is worried that its members will actually lose healthcare coverage they have now once the Affordable Care Act is fully implemented early next year, reports The Hill.
Joe Hansen, president of the UFCW, a 1.3 million-member group that endorsed Barack Obama in the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections, wrote in an editorial published in The Hill that Obama's claim at the 2009 AFL-CIO convention that union members could keep their current insurance under the new law "is simply not true for millions of workers."
"You can't have the same quality health care that you had before, despite what the president said," Hansen asserted, adding: "Now what's going to happen is everybody is going to have to go to private for-profit insurance companies. We just don't think that's right. ... We just want to keep what we already have and what we bought at tremendous cost."
The IRS has admitted to harassing conservative groups seeking tax exempt status, singling out for extra special scrutiny organizations which featured "patriot" or "tea party" designations in their name. We now know that a number of these groups were forced to withdraw their applications, being unable or unwilling to continue what in some cases had become a 3 year battle with the corrupt federal agency.
But few in the media have bothered to ask who directed the IRS to engage in this criminal behavior. It has been reported that Senators Chuck Schumer and Al Franken addressed a letter to IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman in early 2012, "...demanding the IRS target conservative groups or face legislation forcing them to do so." (1)
Yet Democrat demands that the IRS investigate conservative organizations were nothing new. Senators Dick Durbin and Max Baucus offered their own "suggestions" that the Service concentrate their ... Continue Reading:IRS Smoking Gun just blew a hole in Obama's plans
Senior White House officials, including Chief of Staff Denis McDonough, learned last month about a review by the Treasury Department's inspector general into whether the Internal Revenue Service targeted conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status, but they did not inform President Obama, the White House said Monday.
The acknowledgement is the White House's latest disclosure in a piecemeal, sometimes confusing release of details concerning the extent to which White House officials knew of the IG's findings that IRS officials engaged in the "inappropriate" targeting of conservative non-profits for heightened scrutiny. Previously, the White House said counsel Kathryn Ruemmler did not learn about the final results of the investigation until the week of April 22nd, and had not disclosed that McDonough and other aides had also been told about the investigation. On Monday, White House Spokesman Jay Carney said a member of Ruemmler's staff learned of the probe the week of April 16; Ruemmler learned of the investigation on April 24th; and after that point she informed the chief of staff and other aides about the probe's findings.
The White House has said President Obama did not learn of the IRS's actions until he saw news reports on the matter earlier this month.
Carney's spiel included the explanation, "No one in this building intervened in an ongoing independent investigation or did anything that could be seen as intervening." But a desire to not interfere with the investigation doesn't quite explain why no one thought that the president ought to be informed about a major scandal of the IRS targeting his political enemies.
Doesn't it bother Obama to learn about these things from the press? Doesn't he chew anybody out?
Gabe Malor: "I want to know the names of the folks who get to decide what Obama doesn't need to know. What are their credentials? Who elected them?"
We've seen the "senior administrative staff never mentions major, controversial problem to man in charge of the organization until it blows up on the front pages" playbook before. This is precisely the explanation that we were handed for "Fast and Furious" and how Eric Holder never learned about what was going on until Customs and Border Protection Agent Brian Terry was murdered with a weapon from that program.
Time and again, information and warnings about the operation's enormous risks flow from Arizona to Washington...and suddenly, mysteriously, stop just short of Holder.
The inspector general's report concludes that they can find no evidence Holder knew about Fast and Furious until well after Terry's death, but...well, the circumstances of Holder being so out of the loop, so in the dark about a major operation certainly appear unusual, perhaps to the point of straining credulity. The report states:
"We found it troubling that a case of this magnitude and that affected Mexico so significantly was not directly briefed to the Attorney General. We would usually expect such information to come to the Attorney General through the Office of the Deputy Attorney General...[Holder] was not told in December 2010 about the connection between the firearms found at the scene of the shooting and Operation Fast and Furious. Both Acting Deputy Attorney General Grindler and Counsel to the Attorney General and Deputy Chief of Staff Wilkinson were aware of this significant and troubling information by December 17, 2010, but did not believe the information was sufficiently important to alert the Attorney General about it or to make any further inquiry regarding this development."
Not "sufficiently important"? Baffling. Maddening. Some might even say, "implausible"...
Perhaps "Preserve the boss's plausible deniability" is stitched on the throw pillows on the Oval Office couches.
Following the attack in Benghazi, senior State Department officials close to Hillary Clinton ordered the removal of a mid-level official who had no role in security decisions and has never been told the charges against him. He is now accusing Clinton's team of scapegoating him for the failures that led to the death of four Americans last year.
Raymond Maxwell was placed on forced "administrative leave" after the State Department's own internal investigation, conducted by an Administrative Review Board (ARB) led by former State Department official Tom Pickering. Five months after he was told to clean out his desk and leave the building, Maxwell remains in professional and legal limbo, having been associated publicly with the death of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other American for reasons that remain unclear...
"I had no involvement to any degree with decisions on security and the funding of security at our diplomatic mission in Benghazi," he said.
Maxwell was removed from his job on Dec. 18, the day after the ARB report was released, and subsequently placed on administrative leave, which is meant to give the State Department time to investigate whether Maxwell should be fired or return to work. Five months later, that investigation seems stalled and Maxwell sits at home, where he continues to be paid but is not allowed to return to his job.
Here's the big scoop:
The decision to place Maxwell on administrative leave was made by Clinton's chief of staff Cheryl Mills, according to three State Department officials with direct knowledge of the events. On the day after the unclassified version of the ARB's report was released in December, Mills called Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Beth Jones and directed her to have Maxwell leave his job immediately.
Gee, the same woman who indicated to Gregory Hicks he shouldn't be talking to a member of Congress without a State Department lawyer around, and who gave him grief when he spoke to Representative Jason Chaffetz anyway.
Allahpundit, over at Warmer-than-warm-air.com: "Mills has to testify. She may be the only person, possibly apart from Hillary herself, who can explain State's suspicious maneuverings after the attack."
Oh, Allahpundit. We know her answer already: "At this point, what difference does it make?"
Robinson: Obama Administration 'Threatens to Redefine Investigative Reporting as a Crime'
The Obama administration has no business rummaging through journalists' phone records, perusing their e-mails and tracking their movements in an attempt to keep them from gathering news. This heavy-handed business isn't chilling, it's just plain cold.
It also may well be unconstitutional. In my reading, the First Amendment prohibition against "abridging the freedom...of the press" should rule out secretly obtaining two months' worth of the personal and professional phone records of Associated Press reporters and editors, including calls to and from the main AP phone number at the House press gallery in the Capitol. Yet this is what the Justice Department did.
The unwarranted snooping, which was revealed last week, would be troubling enough if it were an isolated incident. But it is part of a pattern that threatens to redefine investigative reporting as criminal behavior.
The Post reported Monday that the Justice Department secretly obtained phone and e-mail records for Fox News reporter James Rosen, and that the FBI even tracked his movements in and out of the main State Department building. Rosen's only apparent transgression? Doing what reporters are supposed to do, which is to dig out the news.
ADDENDUM: New poll out this morning: "Americans in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll sharply reject special scrutiny of conservative groups by the Internal Revenue Service, suspect an administration cover-up of the Benghazi incident and express substantial distrust of the federal government more generally. Yet the national survey also finds no backlash against Barack Obama, at least at this point. His job approval rating is stable, albeit at a tepid 51 percent; he's aided by accelerating economic optimism as well as by comparison with the much less-popular Republicans in Congress."

The Dice Man Cometh: Would Sheer Chance Be A Better Model For Obama?
May 21, 2013 11:35 am Upon the convergence of three evolving and daunting scandals, and in the teeth of repeated policy failures of unusually repetitive and desultory consistency, let's make a humble request of Barack. If it must be an unending litany of failure, broken promises and unfulfilled visions-might we not try a different tack? Why not use the theory [...]
If there's one delicious aspect of the scandals swirling around Barack Obama, it means bad news - REALLY bad news - for the news media that fawn all over him.
John Yoo identifies the common thread in the major Obama administration scandals:
Add up all the recent scandals and the message is clear: the Obama administration is showing that it cannot be trusted with the basic functions of government: law enforcement (surveillance of reporters), taxation (IRS scandals), and national security (Benghazi).
How, then, can we trust the administration when it comes to immigration - an area in which it already has refused to enforce portions of the law that it doesn't like?
The two most honest and independent reporters in Washington are, I think, Jake Tapper, now of CNN, and CBS's Sharyl Attkisson. I'm probably forgetting someone, but those are the two that come to mind. Ms. Attkisson reported on Fast and Furious more fearlessly and effectively than any other reporter. Today she disclosed that her personal and work computers have been "compromised." The circumstances are being investigated:
"I can confirm that an intrusion of my computers has been under some investigation on my end for some months but I'm not prepared to make an allegation against a specific entity today as I've been patient and methodical about this matter," Attkisson told POLITICO on Tuesday. "I need to check with my attorney and CBS to get their recommendations on info we make public."
In an earlier interview with WPHT Philadelphia, Attkisson said that though she did not know the full details of the intrustion, "there could be some relationship between these things and what's happened to James [Rosen]," the Fox News reporter who became the subject of a Justice Dept. investigation after reporting on CIA intelligence about North Korea in 2009. ...
Attkisson told WPHT that irregular activity on her computer was first identified in Feb. 2011, when she was reporting on the Fast and Furious gun-walking scandal and on the Obama administration's green energy spending, which she said "the administration was very sensitive about." Attkisson has also been a persistent investigator of the events surrounding last year's attack in Benghazi, and its aftermath.
Was the administration angry at Attkisson for failing to keep Fast and Furious secret? Recall this post from October 2011:
Laura Ingraham: So they were literally screaming at you?
Attkisson: Yes. Well the DOJ woman was just yelling at me. The guy from the White House on Friday night literally screamed at me and cussed at me. [Laura: Who was the person? Who was the person at Justice screaming?] Eric Schultz. Oh, the person screaming was [DOJ spokeswoman] Tracy Schmaler, she was yelling not screaming. And the person who screamed at me was Eric Schultz at the White House. ...
[The White House and Justice Department] will tell you that I'm the only reporter-as they told me-that is not reasonable. They say the Washington Post is reasonable, the LA Times is reasonable, the New York Times is reasonable, I'm the only one who thinks this is a story, and they think I'm unfair and biased by pursuing it.
There is, of course, a fundamental difference between Ms. Attkisson's circumstances and those of James Rosen. In Rosen's case, the administration could argue that it was investigating a leak that was criminal under the Espionage Act because it threatened national security. I don't see how any similar claim could be made in regard to Fast and Furious, even if Ms. Attkisson's reporting was based to some degree on leaks, which I do not now recall.
The Senate Subcommittee on Investigations is holding a hearing this morning on Apple's tax avoidance strategies. Rand Paul set the ringmasters back on their heels with an opening statement that questioned the whole rationale for the hearing. Here is Paul's opening statement:
For those who lack the patience to watch it (that often describes me when it comes to videos), here is the transcript, supplied by Paul's office:
I am offended by the tone and tenor of this hearing. I am offended by a $4 trillion government bullying, berating and badgering one of America's greatest success stories.
Tell me one of these politicians up here that doesn't minimize their taxes. Tell me a chief financial officer that you would hire if he didn't try to minimize your taxes legally. Tell me what Apple has done that is illegal.
I am offended by a government that uses the IRS to bully groups such as the Tea Party but I am also offended by a government that convenes a hearing to bully one of American's success stories.
I am offended by the spectacle of dragging in here executives from an American company that is not doing anything illegal. If anyone should be on trial here, it should be Congress.
I frankly think the Committee should apologize to Apple. I frankly think Congress should be on trial here for creating a bizarre and byzantine tax code that runs into the tens of thousands of pages, for creating a tax code that simply doesn't compete with the rest of the world.
This committee will admit: Apple has not broken any laws. Yet, they are forced into a show trial at the whims of politicians, when in fact; Congress should be on trial for chasing the profits of great American companies overseas. You haul before this committee one of America's greatest success stories and you want applause?
I say, instead of Apple executives, you should have brought in a giant mirror, so we could look at the reflection of Congress because this problem is solely and completely created by the awful tax code.
If you want to assign blame, the Committee needs to look in the mirror and see who created this mess, see who created the tax code that drives American companies overseas.
Our corporate tax is more than double Canada's. I never thought I would be complimenting Canada's tax code - our tax code is double Canada's. Our corporate tax is over ten points higher than Europe. Instead of saying theirs is too low, why don't we set about to work that ours is too high.
Apple has 600,000 jobs they've created, American jobs and we want to drag them before this committee to chastise them. I find it abominable. Just in my state, we have $700 million in sales from Dow Corning. They make Gorilla Glass.
They were virtually out of business. In the 1990s, Apple struggled - if I had to guess, unfortunately, I didn't guess enough to invest in Apple, but the thing is that in the '90s, people were worried they might go out of business. You know they had one computer that wasn't doing well and then all of a sudden the innovation that came about. And we want to bring them forward and chastise them for their success.
A couple years, we did repatriation of foreign capital. If we want the capital to come home, don't double tax it. We tax it 35 percent. Let's tax it at 5 percent.
I have a bill that would repatriate profits from foreign companies at 5 percent and put it into infrastructure. Our country is woefully short of money for infrastructure. But you're not going to get it at 35 percent- you are getting zero. Let's make it 5 percent and create and infrastructure fund.
There are probably 70 votes for that in Congress but nobody will bring it up. Why? They say, "Oh, it's the sweetener for overall tax reform, which is illusive and a hill too tall to climb that it never seems to get here."
Why not tomorrow pass it? Why do you think people are frustrated with Congress? Because we don't do the right thing. Everybody admits, even those that want to drag Apple before this committee, they admit that the tax code is our problem.
But if we had repatriation at 5 percent, then they would bring money home. Why don't we just pass it? Instead it has to be revenue neutral, scored by the CBO - just pass it if it's the right thing to do.
I would say what we really need to do is to apologize to Apple, compliment them for the job creation they are doing, and get about doing our job.
Look in the mirror and let's make the tax code better, fairer, and more competitive world-wide. Money goes where it is welcome and currently our tax code makes money not welcome in our country.
Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
Later on, when it came to his turn, Sen. Paul delivered an oration that I thought was even better; I will put it up later, if possible. The leaders of the lynch party, Carl Levin and John McCain, felt obliged to say that they are not vilifying Apple but are merely trying to shed light on the workings of the tax code. McCain delivered a rather sickening paean to Levin, and Claire McCaskill thanked him effusively for his bipartisanship.
I was never much of a fan of Ron Paul, to put it mildly, and I initially viewed his son with some skepticism. But it won't take many performances like today's to make me one of Rand Paul's biggest fans.
Tim Cook is testifying now. He points out that Apple is the largest corporate taxpayer in the U.S., having paid $6 billion in income taxes last year. He concludes his opening statement with a rather impassioned plea for tax reform.
UPDATE: Ron Johnson and Kelly Ayotte are also doing an excellent job. Basically the hearing is turning into a teaching opportunity for Apple's executives-now what Carl Levin had in mind.
Here is Senator Paul questioning a tax professor; this is what I referred to earlier:
UPDATE: Carl Levin tried to salvage the situation by going on an endless, repetitive soliloquy in which he misstated the facts relating to Apple's overseas operations and didn't give the Apple executives an opportunity to correct him. He then declared the panel at an end. That is the advantage, I guess, of being the committee chairman.
At the moment I am listening to the ostentatiously liberal Judge Mark Bennett of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa summarize the Supreme Court's employment law decisions of the past year. Judge Bennett wants us to know that he has got his mind right (i.e., left), and how. I understood that from his disparagement of the conservative Supreme Court justices as "the usual suspects." That was enough for me, but then he added facetious praise of Chief Justice Roberts for the "craftspersonship" of his opinions, a purported word I am grateful never to have heard before this morning.
Continuing legal education is a multifaceted thing. I'm wondering if I can claim elimination-of-bias credit (I need two hours to satisfy the requirement imposed by the Minnesota Supreme Court) for meditating on Judge Bennett's mind-numbingly gender-neutral vocabulary.
The news broadcasts of the Oklahoma tornado disaster that I saw last night and this morning were thankfully free of speculation that this tornado is proof of-wait for it-global warming, and therefore one more reason to hand over control of our energy sector to environmentalists. I am certain this will come from the usual people starting today, but for now, note the New York Times' Andrew Revkin discounting the thesis:
It's an important research question but, to me, has no bearing at all on the situation in the Midwest and South - whether there's a tornado outbreak or drought. The forces putting people in harm's way are demographic, economic, behavioral and architectural. Any influence of climate change on dangerous tornadoes (so far the data point to a moderatinginfluence) is, at best, marginally relevant and, at worst, a distraction.
Meanwhile, Stephen Goddard points out that back in 1975, Newsweek (remember them?) blamed an outbreak of tornados on . . . global cooling:
Love how scientists are "almost unanimous" in their assessments of the effects of global cooling. Sounds almost like a "consensus." You can download a complete facsimilie of the whole 1975 Newsweek story here.

Intimidating IRS Employees
ABC News had a chilling story from reporters it sent last week to the Peck Federal Building in Cincinnati, Ohio. That is the government office at the center of the of IRS Tea Party scandal. Virtually no one would talk to the ABC reporters.
One employee admitted off the record that building security guards told IRS employees "not to talk with the press -- a warning cemented by the punch line 'or risk losing our jobs.'"
The reporters went into the Peck Federal Building looking for a manager who might be able to answer questions. Unbelievably, they were escorted throughout the building by an armed officer with the Federal Protective Service. Now consider this excerpt from the ABC report:
"One of the reporters wanted to know if the act of following the journalists was an effort intended to scare off any federal employee who might have considered speaking to the press. That's sure what it looked like; and, even if that wasn't the goal, it was the effect."
Some have described the media and IRS scandals as part of a broader "culture of intimidation" within the Obama Administration. They are right! Yesterday the Justice Department's Inspector General released a report recommending that a former U.S. Attorney for Arizona be disbarred after he lied about his attempts to smear a Fast and Furious whistleblower.
Chilling Effect
In yesterday's report, we commented on the Obama Justice Department's outrageous labeling of Fox News reporter James Rosen as a possible criminal co-conspirator in a case involving the leak of classified information.
While it is illegal for government employees to divulge classified information, it is not illegal for reporters to ask for it. When the federal government classified such asking as illegal, the Obama Administration took a huge leap toward criminalizing much of traditional journalism.
Now some unlikely allies in the media are coming forward to stand with Rosen.
New York Times reporter Mark Mazzetti said, "There's no question that this has a chilling effect. People who have talked in the past are less willing to talk now."
Howard Fineman of the Huffington Post tweeted, "#Fox Rosen probe as bad/worse than #AP: in unprecedented move, govt says he 'conspired' with leaker to get info; that's what reporters do!"
Glenn Greenwald, who previously wrote for the liberal Salon.com and is now at the left-wing British paper The Guardian tweeted, "Accusing James Rosen of committing crimes -- for basic reporting -- may be the most dangerous thing the Obama DOJ has done yet."
Even Keith Olbermann, the former MSNBC and Current TV host, wrote, "My experience dealing with @jamesrosenfnc was unpleasant and contentious. And I fully support him against this unwarranted act by DOJ."
This assault on our First Amendment liberties is unprecedented and must be confronted. Reporters won't probe too deeply lest they fear being charged as criminals. Supporters and donors are increasingly hesitant to give to conservative causes lest they be subjected to IRS harassment.
Kudos to House and Senate Republicans who are trying to get the truth on these scandals. But they cannot back off now. If no one is punished, Obama will have succeeded in punishing conservatives and demoralizing men and women of faith for exercising their constitutional rights. That is unacceptable and un-American.
Scapegoating
As the Watergate scandal began to unravel, the Nixon White House started scapegoating individuals hoping a few "sacrifices" would appease the media. Raymond Maxwell, the deputy assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern Affairs, believes that is exactly what happened to him as a result of the Benghazi scandal.
Maxwell was placed on administrative leave in December by Cheryl Mills, Hillary Clinton's chief of staff. In a recent interview with The Daily Beast, Maxwell says he was scapegoated by Hillary Clinton, adding that he had "no role in security decisions and has never been told the charges against him." He says he is coming forward now to "restore my honor."
Maxwell may not be alone. PJ Media reports that new Benghazi whistleblowers may soon surface with explosive information about why we kept the Benghazi consulate open after other countries had left the area and why there was no military help provided on the night of the attack.
Meanwhile, Joseph Curl, editor of the Drudge Report, put out this tantalizing tweet yesterday, "CIA source says Fox News scandal the '4th Shoe'; says it goes much deeper; says WH also sitting on 'something' that has top aides terrified." Stay tuned!

Governor Corbett delays Common Core
Late yesterday, Governor Corbett announced a delay of implementation of the Common Core national education standards. This is a huge step forward all the concerned parents, teachers and school board members that made their voices heard in Harrisburg. Those citizens who actively opposed this should take great pride in being part of winning the first battle in what is likely to be a longer war against Big Government control of education.
Pennsylvanians Against Common Core issued this statement upon being informed of the Governor's announcement: "We applaud Governor Corbett for recognizing that there are severe flaws in the proposed Common Core one-size-fits-all standards that would be imposed on school districts across the Commonwealth. During this period the Governor should fully vet the proposed standards through open and well publicized public hearings that include public comment and also perform a full review of the true costs of implementation. Common Core should only proceed in the state via the legislative process, rather than the back-door imposition of these controversial standards by an un-elected State Education Board."
This is a positive first step and allows us to more time to fully inform the citizens of Pennsylvania of the dangers of these untested standards that bypass local control.

The Spectator President By Patrick J. Buchanan The AP, IRS and Benghazi matters represent a scandal not of presidential wrongdoing, but of presidential indolence, indifference and incompetence in discharging the duties of chief executive.
