Three families of Navy SEAL Team VI special forces servicemen, along with one family of an Army National Guardsman, will appear at a press conference on May 9, 2013, to disclose never before revealed information about how and why their sons along with 26 others died in a fatal helicopter crash in Afghanistan on August 6, 2011, just a few months after the successful raid on the compound of Osama Bin Laden that resulted in the master terrorist's death.
Accompanying the families of these dead Navy SEAL Team VI special operations servicemen will be retired military experts verifying their accounts of how and why the government is as much responsible for the deaths of their sons as is the Taliban.
The areas of inquiry at the press conference will include but not be limited to:
1.How President Obama and Vice President Biden, having disclosed on May 4, 2011, that Navy SEAL Team VI carried out the successful raid on Bin Laden's compound resulting in the master terrorist's death, put a retaliatory target on the backs of the fallen heroes.
2.How and why high-level military officials sent these Navy SEAL Team VI heroes into battle without special operations aviation and proper air support.
3.How and why middle-level military brass carries out too many ill-prepared missions to boost their standing with top-level military brass and the Commander-in-Chief in order that they can be promoted.
4.How the military restricts special operations servicemen and others from engaging in timely return fire when fired upon by the Taliban and other terrorist groups and interests, thus jeopardizing the servicemen's lives.
5.How and why the denial of requested pre-assault fire may have contributed to the shoot down of the Navy SEAL Team VI helicopter and the death of these special operations servicemen.
6.How Afghani forces accompanying the Navy SEAL Team VI servicemen on the helicopter were not properly vetted and how they possibly disclosed classified information to the Taliban about the mission, resulting in the shoot down of the helicopter.
7.How military brass, while prohibiting any mention of a Judeo-Christian God, invited a Muslim cleric to the funeral for the fallen Navy SEAL Team VI heroes who disparaged in Arabic the memory of these servicemen by damning them as infidels to Allah. A video of the Muslim cleric's "prayer" will be shown with a certified translation.
"This press conference takes on special significance given that our government has over the last twelve years since September 11th committed brave American servicemen to wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that, in large part as a result of politics, were poorly conceived of and implemented, resulting in the deaths of thousands and the maiming of tens of thousands of our brave heroes. To make matters even worse, America has effectively lost these wars," stated Larry Klayman, legal counsel for the families.

School District Cancels Grade School Graduation After Parent Complains About Prayer

The Riverside School District in Lake City, Arkansas, has canceled its 6th-grade graduation ceremony after a parent protested over the inclusion of prayer in the festivities. After officials received a letter from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) on the behalf of the parent, the event was canceled.
Parents who revere the traditional ceremony found themselves surprised and frustrated by the development. One parent, Kelly Adams, said that prayer had never been an issue before and that the cancellation has some people very upset.

Some of the top issues that made our list were Voter Fraud, Common Core (education issues), Second Amendment, Right to Work, Agenda 21/smart meters, and 2014 Elections.
In May, let's finish the job. We'll finalize our issues and set up working groups to get things moving.
It is our belief and the belief of many members that we need to become a more action oriented group. We can discuss ways that we can move in that direction. One of these is our continuing and successful Legislative Visit Program headed up by Camille Heppard and Sonny Hofmann.
Bring your ideas and energy!
In June we plan to try a new meeting place that we think will work well IF we can iron out details. It is convenient and has on-site parking. You may bring food and drink as long as you clean up after yourselves. The Sr. Center does not serve food although there is a kitchen that we can pay to use. Maybe we'll do a Pot Luck dinner a couple of times a year.

The anti-guners were very insensitive in holding their event at the same time and place as a major little league event at Williamson Park. It is unfortunate the kids will be distracted in general by their event, and hearing the hysteria and distortions from their speakers and participants.
In contrast, our side should be respectful of the kids and the little league event. We will have positive pro-2nd Amendment/ Pro-family signs for you to use. Or you can bring your own positive message sign.
We want to avoid yelling, any combative interaction or creating a scene. The anti-2nd Amendment group will be making enough of a scene with their disruptive presence in front of the little leaguers.
There will be law enforcement present. Go out of your way to thank them for their service and emphasize we are on the same side as them.
Directions & Map Our rally will be held at Bridge Street and Park Ave, on the bank of the Delaware River. Parking is some distance from our rally point, so make allowance for time to park the car and walk to the rally point.
PRESS RELEASE: ANTI-GUN COALITION PUTS BUCKS COUNTY KIDS LAST
Concerned Gun Owners of Bucks County (CGOBC) is disappointed that Anti-Gun groups have chosen to continue with their rally in Williamson Park on Saturday resulting in cancellation of Little League games. CGOBC had publicly called on the Coalition for Peace Action to put kids and families first and either cancel or delay their Saturday protest in Willamson Park.
Instead, the Coaltion has selfishly put themselves first and the kids last when given the choice. Reverend Robert Moore was quoted in Philly.com " "We've gone through a lot of effort to get this all in place. Our part-time Pennsylvania organizer has put in many, many hours, and we jumped through a lot of hoops to get all this in place. I just don't think that's at all right or fair."
Evidently what's fair for the kids and the community doesn't matter to Reverend Moore and his supporters. The Coalition demonstrates their self centered disregard by continuing to use the public ball field areas and refusing the stand down for the sake of the kids.
Pro 2nd Amendment (2A) Groups had reviewed the area well over a month ago and decided that holding a rally on Saturday next to a baseball field was not the right option for the kids. Instead we chose an area blocks away by the Delaware River out of sight and sound from the kids and the ball park. We met with local police and officials to assure our plans would be orderly and respectful.
Hopefully residents of Bucks County and Pennsylvania will turn their back on this inconsiderate anti-gun event. Speakers like former Governor Ed Rendell should do the right thing and back out in protest of the Coalition's decision to put kids last.
CGOBC again calls on the Coalition for Peace Action to do the right thing - reschedule their event to allow the kids and families to have their day without the interruption of a divisive political rally in their park. It's the right thing to do

On Thursday, May 30, the organization Friends of Israel will celebrate its 75th anniversary of helping Jews and the Jewish State of Israel with a gala in Voorhees, N.J. We hope you will attend their reasonably priced dinner as a show of support and unity.
As you will note, this Christian Zionist group began its mission 10 years before Israel was re-established. They were originally known as "The Friends of Israel Refugee Relief Committee." To this day they continue to be advocates for Israel throughout the world and lead an annual mission to Israel. Though this group is international in scope, it is based in South Jersey.
Friends of Israel leadership have attended our Philadelphia ZOA Gala each year and last year we honored its immediate past executive director, William Sutter, and his wife, Annette. We see Bill (who is still quite active) and his successor, Jim Showers, at nearly every pro-Israel event in the region. They truly are, as their name indicates, "friends of Israel."

Heritage Foundation weighs in on Common Core

Like many other states, Common Core standards are quickly making their way into the classroom. While proponents of the standards continue to champion their predicted benefits, there is significant cause for concern.First, the standards represent a massive federal overreach. The Obama Administration jumped on board from the get go, promoting national education standards, via policy and federal taxpayer dollars, as part of their education agenda. Billions of federal dollars have gone towards and are continuing to fund, the promotion and implementation of these standards nationwide. The federal government's involvement with the standards should be alarming. Pushing state and local leaders away from classroom curriculum is not only a breach in federalism but gives parents, teachers, and communities less say over what children learn in school. Education experts have also raised alarm over the quality of the standards. Sandra Stotsky, Professor of Education Reform at the University of Arkansas, has particularly expressed concern over the English Language Arts. Common Core's ELA standards reduce emphasis on literature by promoting the study of "informational texts." Stotsky says
, "A diminished emphasis on literature in the secondary grades makes it unlikely that American students will study a meaningful range of culturally and historically significant literary works before graduation. It also prevents students from acquiring a rich understanding and use of the English language. Perhaps of greatest concern, it may lead to a decreased capacity for analytical thinking."

KIPP (Charter Schools) has a CHARACTER REPORT CARD on Page 39. So for now start on page 39 and work your way through to page 45. Remember FERPA laws were changed last year and I am sure not one parent is aware that permission to share information about our children no longer requires parental consent. Obama just slipped all these new changes in and I don't believe any parents were ever asked their opinions about these changes. And where was our Republican Congress when this happened???
AGENDA 21 is: The complete control and inventory of every human activity. After your friends read some of this information ask them if they still believe A21 is not real. Chapter 36 of A21 document is devoted to education.
Our government forgets there are still people alive that can think and see through their garbage.

GET COMMON CORE AND THE GOVERNMENT out of our class rooms. I think it is time to start a MASS movement for Home Schooling. I know Home Schooling will not be spared. This should be a movement to bring education back to the local level and DESTROY the Federal Department of Education. If our kids are not in school it will create an uprising at all levels. We should not settle for shutting down Common Core because they will masquerade it....they are already doing this in VA. VA supposedly never signed on to Common Core but GUESS WHAT........they ARE implementing Common Core and disguising it from the citizens in VA....of course they aren't doing a good job of hiding it and people in VA are catching on. Our schools have been in the process of a government take over (in earnest) for more than 20 years. If we don't shut down the Department of Education it will never stop. We have to cause a citizen uprising!!

Voter ID Rule Part of New Election Laws - Arkansas voters will need to take photo identification with them to the polls under a new law passed by the 2013 Arkansas Legislature. During the legislative session, lawmakers overrode Gov. Mike Beebe's veto of the measure. He called it "an expensive solution in search of a problem" that "is not supported by any demonstrated need."
IA Senate Rejects Voter ID Proposal - The Iowa Senate Tuesday night rejected a Republican-sponsored amendment to require Iowa voters to show a photo identification when they are voting. The effort failed on a 26-24 vote with Democrats against and Republicans in support.

For over 25 years, Eagle Forum has tried to protect public school children from federal control of school curriculum. I am now writing to alert you to the fact that the Obama Administration is pushing hard to force all 50 states to adopt federally designed content standards known as "Common Core Standards." This has stirred up parents and other grassroots more than any issue in a long time
It is vital that this federal intrusion be stopped in Pennsylvania. An important Pennsylvania Senate Education Committee hearing on Common Core is scheduled by Senate Education Committee Chairman, Sen. Mike Folmer, at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 15 in Hearing Room #1 of the North Office Building, Harrisburg (map). It is essential that the halls be filled with those opposed to Common Core in Pennsylvania in order to protest the infliction of this federal program on our state's school children.
It is also important to contact members of the Pennsylvania State Senate and House and ask them to stop the implementation of Common Core. Your help is needed to persuade Pennsylvania state legislators to reject this program, as has been done in many other states, most recently in Indiana.

Every once in a while I stumble over something that opens my eyes wide to a lot of the silliness of secularism that pervades evangelicalism and, in turn, warps the whole of generations. Anthony Bradley points out that there is a crazy movement going on right now within young evangelical circles to shun the suburbs and engage in a "new legalism" of radical faith.
The best I can figure is that somehow suburbs are just bad. (Read Keith Miller on this point) I think there is something bigger than that and it goes beyond evangelicals to, particularly, millenials and those who close out the tail end of Gen X and Y. We've made idols of the awesome in our lives. All of us.
Each of us forms in our head an ideal. Instead of enjoying our present where, as CS Lewis noted, we are closest to God, we either look to a future that may or may not be, or we hold on to a past that maybe was not as shiny as we think. 2.Ted Cruz Lays Down Gauntlet on Immigration Bill
As we've noted over the past few weeks, there are dozens of systemic flaws in the approach of the gang's immigration bill.But there are two overarching problems with all of these proposals:1) the legalization (and certainly the suspension of deportations) is immediate and certain; the enforcement measures are later and tenuous 2) it is incontrovertibly clear that granting such a low-skilled population a path to citizenship, when coupled with chain migration and birthright citizenship, will constitute a demonstrative public charge.

A second professor at the University of Southern California (USC) has been caught on video using his political science class as a platform for bashing conservatives.
In the video, Political Science Professor Richard Dekmejian boldly claims that former President George W. Bush suffered from "serious intellectual and mental problems" during his time in office.
Former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford has been elected to the US House. The win marks a major political comeback for Sanford, whose career was derailed by an extramarital affair in 2009.
Mark Dice continues to push the envelope with yet another prank to see how far people will go in opposing their own Constitutional Rights.
This time Dice decides to carry out his civic duty as a member of the Obama volunteer Civilian National Security Force and conducts random searches of backpacks on campus at San Diego State University to look for bombs.
Three State Department whistle-blowers testified under oath today before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee about their knowledge of the Benghazi attacks on September 11, 2012. They were emotional, breaking down on several occasions. They witnessed a gross wrong, had friends die and watched a cover-up unfold from the inside.
The star witness was Gregory Hicks, a career foreign service officer. Fluent in Arabic, he has served throughout the Middle East and was the second-highest-ranking official at the U.S. embassy in Tripoli, just beneath Ambassador Stevens, on the night of the attacks. Here are some brief highlights of his testimony:
Hicks began by saying, "I am a career public servant. Until the aftermath of Benghazi, I loved every day of my job." He provided the committee a detailed account of what transpired the night of the attack, describing the call he received from Ambassador Stevens in which he said, "Greg! We're under attack!" and the call he took from the Libyan prime minister informing him that Stevens was dead.
Hicks recounted under oath how a Special Operations team from Tripoli was directed by its superiors not to board a plane bound for Benghazi to save U.S. personnel. The officer in command of the team told Hicks, "I have never been so embarrassed in my life that a State Department officer has bigger balls than somebody in the military."
Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) asked Mr. Hicks if U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice ever called to speak to him. (As you may recall, the Obama White House sent Rice on all the Sunday talk shows to repeat a false narrative about protests over a film.) He said she never called him. Asked his response to Rice's claims about the protests being caused by an anti-Islamic video, Hicks responded, "I was stunned. My jaw dropped, and I was embarrassed."
Rep. Gowdy then read an email from a State Department official sent the day after the attack to the Libyan ambassador. The message encouraged him and other Libyan officials to make it clear that the attack was committed by Islamic extremists.
So Rice never talked to the top embassy official, yet her statements contradicted Hicks' on the ground knowledge of events, contradicted statements of the president of Libya and contradicted statements from the State Department to Libyan officials.
Under questioning from Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), Hicks revealed that State Department lawyers told him not to speak to members of Congress who were coming to Libya to conduct an investigation of the attack. Hicks told Rep. Jordan that was the first time in his decades-long career he had ever been told not to cooperate with or speak to members of Congress.
After he did meet with them, he got an angry call from Cheryl Mills, chief of staff to the then-secretary of state. Clearly, Hillary was paying very close attention to the investigation and must have been annoyed that efforts to obstruct it had failed. Why else would Mills be calling?
Mills, by the way, is a long-time Clinton loyalist. She was a deputy White House counsel during the Clinton Administration and one of Bill Clinton's defense lawyers during his Senate impeachment trial. Now here is someone who might know a thing or two about obstructing investigations!
Please share this report with friends and family members. Not many folks are glued to C-SPAN during the middle of the day, and Big Media is not inclined to say anything that hurts Obama. Sharing these reports can make a big difference.
I have heard from numerous sources that yesterday's "End of Day" was widely read on Capitol Hill. I've taken calls from the Washington Post and other media outlets in response to our reports.
Of course, many in Big Media are interested only in spinning the investigation as a political witch-hunt. But I am enjoying every opportunity I get to shame them into doing their jobs, reminding them that a free press should care about exposing corruption at the highest levels!
Smear Campaign Next
We don't know what will ultimately come of today's hearings. But we can safely predict that if the accusations made by the whistle-blowers today get any traction, the left-wing, Soros-funded smear machine will go after the witnesses with an unbelievable degree of vengeance.
They should expect the worst. Michelle Malkin looks at the experience of previous whistle-blowers who dared to cross the left, and it's not pretty.
Mother Blames Hillary
One of the men killed during the Benghazi attacks was Sean Smith. His mother has been dogged in demanding answers from the Obama Administration, supporting Rep. Frank Wolf's call for a select committee, and speaking publicly about her loss. During an interview on CNN this week, Mrs. Smith had harsh words for the Obama Administration and for Hillary Clinton in particular.
Smith said that Obama, Biden, Hillary and former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta all personally promised her that they would get answers for her about her son's death and find those responsible. She said, "I got one telephone call from a clerk... He was reading to me from the time line, which I already had. And that was it."
Asked if she blamed Hillary Clinton, Smith said, "Yes. Because that's her department. She is supposed to be on top of it. Yet she claims she knows nothing. It wasn't told to her. Well, who is running the place?"
Democrats Lose Big
Democrats had hoped to start off the 2014 congressional elections with some momentum by winning a special election in South Carolina's First Congressional District. They had everything going for them too -- from a big name recruit, Elizabeth Colbert Busch (sister of Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert), to a scandal-plagued GOP nominee, former Governor Mark Sanford. Democrats and their liberal allies threw the kitchen sink at this race, while the national Republican Party abandoned Sanford because of his severe ethical lapses.
Sanford was not our choice to run, but he won the primary. We know there is a double standard in politics and we want conservative candidates to be as free of scandal as possible in a fallen world. Nevertheless, he did win. And despite Democrats' best efforts to take the seat, Sanford won convincingly last night.
Quite frankly, Sanford may have won because of Democrat hubris. His opponent followed Obama's playbook. She was pro-abortion. She favored same-sex marriage. As that information came out polls, which had Sanford down significantly, shifted rapidly in his favor.
Similarly, last year Obama came out for same-sex marriage right after the voters of North Carolina had resoundingly rejected it. We hit the president hard, even though the GOP establishment was largely silent. In November, the only swing state that voted for Obama in '08 but switched to Romney in 2012 was North Carolina.
North Carolina last year and South Carolina's race yesterday provide further evidence that the cultural extremism of Obama and the Democrats on life and marriage can hurt them if the GOP finds its voice to make the case on values issues.
What is known is that neither the State Department led by then-Secretary of State Clinton, nor the White House did anything to protect the Libyan embassy, consulate, and ambassador prior to or during the attack.
With each new revelation, what has always been obvious becomes more pronounced: the State Department's self-proclaimed final word on the Benghazi Massacre, the risibly named "Accountability Review Board" investigation, is a fraud.
In her extraordinary account, Dr. Perl relates her daily experience in Auschwitz, where bodies of the dead were burned, an estimated 1.3 million dead, 90% of them Jewish.
The press should follow up on the Russian angle to the Islamic terrorist bombers story before President Obama gets carried away with cooperating with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Obama was in rare form at the White House Correspondents Association dinner last week, when he joked with reporters (The We-Love-You-POTUS-Oh-Yes-We-Do Fan Club), "I'm not the strapping young Muslim socialist I used to be." Stop, you're killing me.
Say, did ya hear the one about the U.S. ambassador who was dragged through the streets of Benghazi and butchered because his boss wouldn't mount a rescue operation for fear of offending the Muslim street? It's a riot!
As hilarious as Obama was with his media symps, he's even funnier when he's trying to be serious about the Religion of Peace. To witless:
* The World Trade Center attack was due to al-Qaeda's lack of "empathy" for the suffering of others which "grows out of a climate of poverty and ignorance, helplessness and despair." (Aw, somebody needs a hug.) - then-Illinois State Senator Obama writing in Chicago's Hyde Park Herald, September 12, 2001
* The Muslim call to prayer is "one of the prettiest sounds on earth at sunset." (There were Germans who felt the same way about "Deutschland Uber Alles") - Candidate Obama to New York Times correspondent Nicholas Kristof in a 2007 interview.
* "I consider it part of my responsibility as president of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear" and "Islam has always been part of the American story." (Think of all the great U.S. Muslim statesmen, philanthropists and industrialists) - POTUS's initial groveling to the Muslim world, in Cairo, 2009.
* Islam and the West enjoyed "centuries of coexistence and cooperation" which were marred in modern times by "colonialism" and "a Cold War in which Muslim-majority countries were too often treated as proxies without regard to their own aspirations." (Yup, it's all our fault. There was no word about Muslim persecution of Middle East Christians, stretching back to Islam's beginnings, or their colonial occupation of Spain, Greece and the Balkans for hundreds of years) - Same Cairo sniveling.
* "Jihad has a lot of meanings within Islam and is subject to a lot of different interpretations." (Sure's shootin'. Sometimes it means "Everything is beautiful in its own way," other times "Love is kinda crazy with a spooky little girl like you," and, then again, there are those rare occasions when it means "Duck infidel!") - BO speaking to students in Mumbai in 2010.
* The overwhelming majority who practice Islam "view their obligations to their religion as ones that reaffirm peace and justice and fairness and tolerance." (Actually, that's what jihad means - peace, justice, fairness and tolerance - and stoning, decapitation, suicide bombings and mass murder targeting civilians) - More Mubai mumblings
* "The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam." (by saying anything negative about him, even when overwhelmingly affirmed by the record. Mohammed is the only historical figure who is exempt from criticism.) - U.S. President and Custodian of The Two Holy Mosques Barack Obama at the UN in 2012 following the Benghazi attack.
If his rhetoric weren't absurd enough, Obama's policies have made the world a more dangerous place for Americans - at home and abroad.
Republicans on the House Oversight Committee say there will be "explosive" revelations that will come forth during the Committee's hearing on Wednesday when three State Department witnesses reveal what they knew the night the U.S. consulate and CIA annex in Benghazi, Libya were attacked by terrorists. Committee members will be hearing the testimonies of State Department employees Greg Hicks, Mark Thompson, and Eric Nordstrom.
The Committee appears to be interested in finding out who ultimately made the decision to tell military assets not to send help to the Americans who were under assault in Benghazi on September 11, 2012. The attack took the lives of four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens.

Hillary's been bored since the beginning
"Ever since Sept. 11, 2012, when Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were killed in a terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, the Obama administration has done its best to confuse and conceal what actually happened. On Wednesday, when three career State Department officials testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Americans may finally start to get the real story. In the aftermath of the attack, the Obama administration tried to focus attention on a silly YouTube amateur video mocking Muhammad, which President Obama repeatedly mentioned during a speech to the United Nations. ... Gregory Hicks, one of the witnesses scheduled to testify [today], is expected to drive home the point. Hicks, a 22-year Foreign Service veteran who was the deputy chief-of-mission at the U.S. Embassy, didn't mince words when interviewed by House investigators, according to a transcript obtained by CBS News. The White House might have wanted to mute its response to the terrorist attack in Benghazi for fear of inflaming Anti-American sentiment. Perhaps the President did not want to acknowledge a successful attack by an al-Qaeda affiliate on the anniversary of 9/11-right before a national election. Maybe it was just all "Keystone Kops" at the national command authority on the night four Americans were killed at their posts. It could be a bit of all three. The problem is, nine months later, we still don't know for sure.
Dramatic hearings are expected today as Gregory Hicks, a State Department official who was on the ground in Libya during the 9/11 attack when four Americans died, talks to a House panel.
Some of his testimony from pre-hearing interviews with committee staff has already been released to the press. It includes claims that a Special Forces team that could have helped save lives and safeguard evidence and classified materials at the U.S. facility had been ordered to "stand down." In addition, Hicks contends that from the outset, the ambassador's team knew that they were under attack and reported that to Washington.
Hicks's testimony follows a House Republican Conference report and a detailed article on the "Benghazi Talking Points" in TheWeekly Standard that further call into question the credibility of the Obama Administration's response.
What is becoming increasingly clear is that (1) the Administration bungled security before the incident; (2) the response to the assault was disjointed and inadequate; and (3) the Administration made a consistent and considerable effort to hide these facts.
That Hicks is only just now being allowed to testify before Congress reinforces concerns that the Administration continues to slow-roll the truth coming out. Yet the White House continues to stick to the increasingly incredulous line that it has been forthcoming at every step.
Fundamental questions about the security breakdown in Benghazi still have not been fully answered. With a White House that is still in denial about sharing the truth, it remains up to the Congress to press for answers and the press the Administration to take its responsibility of protecting our personnel overseas more seriously than protecting its political reputation at home.
Just weeks before the election, the Benghazi attack threatened to undo Obama's carefully crafted al Qaeda campaign narrative. That night, during the attack, President Barack Obama had no idea what to do. He is not a born or trained commander. With lives and American prestige in his hands, he flinched. He stayed true to his character and voted "present."
Much money can be made and political power gained by presenting the South as a bastion of pre-Civil Rights Jim Crow. This is what the SPLC (Southern Poverty Law Center), a non-profit with an unsavory past and dubious finances, does.
If, as Glenn Reynolds writes, the United States is looking more like Europe, it's worth looking back at a snapshot of Europe's business community at the start of the 21st century, focusing on its own lack of entrepreneurial start-ups.
Was the King of Pop a reflection of a culture obsessed with eternal youth, or did he create that man-in-the-mirror himself? As I settle quite solidly into middle age with all its attendant physical changes, it forces me to wonder what, if any, are the limits of vanity.

The Heritage Institute report estimates that under amnesty the average legalized illegal household will take in $43,900 in benefits while paying a little over a third of that in taxes. Those numbers are grim from the standpoint of a tottering economy being asked to take on an even bigger pile of debt and they reveal an even grimmer view of the future.
Set aside the political debates, the tensions over multiculturalism, entitlements and the great political divide, and those numbers reek of a country whose only future is poverty.
Subsidized poverty, even if we had the ability to continue subsidizing it forever, is still poverty. A Food Stamp Nation made up of slums full of bodegas and check cashing places does not offer any kind of future. Its only growth industries are in expensive government jobs or cheap service jobs leading to an economy of two tiers; one for workers and another for political workers.
"A report came out recently which showed what most Mexicans had long suspected - there is almost no social mobility in the country whatsoever. If you are born into poverty the chances are very high that you will die poor too," a BBC report from Mexico concludes.
Now substitute America for Mexico. Imagine a society sharply divided between the working class and the government class where political connections mean more than any single other factor.
The report begins with the daughter of the Federal Attorney General for Consumer Protection shutting down a restaurant because they wouldn't give her a seat and ends with two wealthy women abusing a police officer by calling him "asalariado" or "wage earner".
Asalariado is becoming an insult in the United States. And the irony is that amnesty for illegal aliens may complete the process through which the people who came here looking to find opportunities that didn't exist in Mexico will turn America into Mexico.
America hardly had any class issues because both the rich and the poor worked. A Carnegie or a Rockefeller might be able to buy and sell a thousand ordinary men, but still started out at the bottom of the ladder and never stopped working. To have proper class issues, you need a permanent leisure class to create that gap between those who work and those who do nothing.
Since the 1820s America's police have protected everyone whether they were rich or poor. Of course the wealthy got the best of what their police forces offered but the poor got reasonable services as well.
Nevertheless, police services are changing, and not in a way everyone will like.
The NRA rejoinder, "When seconds count the police are only minutes away" is becoming more of a reality by the day. Years of being bogged down with ancillary activities and continuing budget cuts are taking their toll on what we think police should be doing.
For the "stretched to the limits" police forces around the country something has got to change and that "something" now means withdrawal of services in specified circumstances. Hey, Democrats. You just spent a bundle and lost . . . to Mark Sanford.
The argument that we can't learn anything about 2014 from an individual special House race is generally true. But Alex Roarty of National Journal -- a.k.a., that insider, non-conservative publication that National Review is often mixed up with -- repeats my point from yesterday: Democrats put a lot of money and effort into this race, against a Republican candidate they thought was uniquely beatable. (And in fact, he was. But "uniquely beatable" doesn't always mean you will beat him.)
And there is a lesson for 2014: Mark Sanford managed to overcome the electorate's wariness about him by emphasizing that a vote for his opponent was a vote for Nancy Pelosi and the Obama agenda. Red-state and red-district Democrats have always had a tough balancing act, emphasizing how they're not like those other Democrats; Elizabeth Colbert Busch in the end just wasn't a talented enough candidate to pull that off. (In short, she wasn't that talented a candidate at all. "The Solyndra of the South," as Nathan Wurtzel summarized.)
Any remaining red-district Democrats really have to run hard from Pelosi from now until November 2014.
Moe Lane: "This should have gone to the Democrats; but, well, there's that pesky albatross. May Nancy Pelosi stay House Minority Leader, well, forever . . . If they can't win House seats in R districts under these circumstances, they won't win 'em under more even ones."
There will be lots of analysis in the days to come about what this election means, but one thing isn't up for debate: Mark Sanford knows how to campaign, and his win here is due at least in part to his tireless canvassing and cheerful willingness to ask for the vote of anyone who would listen to him.
When he arrived at the victory party, Sanford was in full-on retail-politics mode. I followed the former governor on the campaign trail the day before the election and wrote about his perpetual handshaking and small-talking. Winning the election doesn't seem to have tempered his pace. When he arrives at the party, he laps around the front of the building (which, a server tells me, is more crowded than it's ever been), posing for pictures and hugging supporters.
Two things are different from the day before, though: First, he's wearing a suit instead of stained khakis and busted-up shoes, and actually looks like someone who might belong in the halls of the Capitol. And second, he's got his oldest son, Marshall, in tow. He looks around for his son every minute or two -- when he loses sight of him, he asks the nearest staffer, "Where'd Marshall go?" and whenever he gets a chance, he introduces the 20-year-old to supporters who haven't met him.
Mark Sanford's sister, Sarah Sanford Rauch, isn't far behind. She's one of his veteran campaign volunteers, and she's outspoken about her support for her embattled brother. I ask her how she feels.
"Exhausted," she tells me. "It's the toughest race I've ever been in. I've helped out on a bunch of races, but this is the toughest, by far."
"You wake up every morning and you look at the newspaper and you wait to see what anvil is getting dropped on your head each day," she adds.
Somebody else is feeling the headache this morning.
Batten Down the Hatches! The Benghazi Hearings Begin Today

Hoping to funnel into one chronological timeline the rampantly varying accounts of how President Obama's administration responded last Sept. 11 in the wake of an attack on a U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday will hear from three "whistleblowers" expected to offer testimony enormously at odds with the administration's characterization of a strike that killed four Americans.
Testifying are Mark Thompson, acting deputy assistant Secretary of State for counterterrorism; Greg Hicks, former deputy chief of mission in Libya; and Eric Nordstrom, former regional security officer in Libya. Excerpts of an interview Hicks did with investigators that were released to CBS News' "Face the Nation" on Sunday boomeranged the Benghazi politics back into the spotlight four months after hearings on the issue in the House and Senate.
According to Hicks, "everybody in the mission" believed it was an act of terror "from the get-go." But on Sept. 16 -- five days after the attack -- U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice hit the Sunday show circuit, peddling the theory that the strike began "spontaneously" out of protests in Egypt and was not a premeditated terrorist act. Rice's spot on "Face the Nation" that day was preceded by the new president of Libya, Mohammed al-Magariaf, who said his government had "no doubt that this was pre-planned, predetermined."
"I've never been as embarrassed in my life, in my career, as on that day," Hicks told investigators of Rice's appearances.
We now know, for example, that the early talking points were accurate -- and it was only after the State Department and the White House, among others, got done revising the talking points that the truth was transformed into a false account.
To be specific: early (accurate) references to "Islamic extremists" were removed. Early (accurate) references to "attacks" were changed to "demonstrations." And there was no mention of any YouTube video in any of the many drafts of the talking points -- even though everyone from the president of the United States to the secretary of state to the U.N. ambassador blamed the video for the attacks.
We have known for a long time -- and the MSM is going to have to finally reckon with the fact -- that the "video" narrative was a fraud, a political construct to cover ass, protect campaign talking points, and misdirect accountability for the four deaths in Benghazi. The Susan Rice spectacle has been pounded on over and over, and rightfully so, but there's one nuance that needs to be shoved repeatedly into Hillary Clinton's face:
Hillary pushed the fraudulent video narrative while standing over the caskets of Ambassador Stevens and the other three murdered Americans.
"This has been a difficult week for the State Department and for our country. We've seen the heavy assault on our post in Benghazi that took the lives of those brave men. We've seen rage and violence directed at American embassies over an awful internet video that we had nothing do to with. It's hard for the American people to make sense of that, because it is senseless, and it is totally unacceptable. The people of Egypt, Libya, Yemen and Tunisia, did not trade the tyranny of a dictator for the tyranny of a mob. Reasonable people and responsible leaders in these countries need to do everything they can to restore security and hold accountable those behind these violent acts. And we will, under the president's leadership, keep taking steps to protect our personnel around the world."

The bombshells were flying Fast & Furious, you might say, at the House Oversight Committee hearing on Benghazi today. The former deputy chief of mission in Libya told the committee: "The YouTube video was a non-event in Libya." We commenced this series in response to Obama administration spokesman Susan Rice's round of Sunday post-attack gabfest appearances asserting: "What happened this week...in Benghazi was a result, a direct result of a heinous and offensive video that was widely disseminated, that the U.S. government had nothing to do with, that we have made clear is reprehensible and disgusting." Mr. Hicks, take it away.
Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings is the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee before which the Benghazi hearing was held today. He did his best to carry water for the White House and the former Secretary of State. Rep. Cummings earns his own entry in this series, as both a fool and a knave, for his advice to the Benghazi witnesses, before the families of the loved ones murdered in the massacre, that "death is a part of life." Thus spake Rep. Cummings:
And, as I listen to your testimony I could not help but think of something that I said very recently - two years ago now - in a eulogy for a relative. I said that death is a part of life, but so often we have to find a way to make life a part of death. And, I guess the reason why I'm saying that, going back to something Mr. Nordstrom said, he wanted, I guess all of you said this, he wanted to make sure we learn from this.

Back in the 1980s, when The New Republic described Jesse Jackson as "the great ambulance chaser of American politics," it was Jackson who would insert himself in every foreign crisis he could. He sprung a downed airman from Syrian captivity in 1984, and then got on the phone with various Lebanese terrorists trying to mediate the 1985 TWA flight 847 hijacking and hostage crisis. (He was unsuccessful that time.)

But the bottom story of the week has to be this hilarious nugget about how Al Gore is hoping to "convert" Rupert Murdoch to the global warming cause. From the recent New York magazine profile of Gore:
And there's one specific capitalist he hopes to enlighten. Gore tells me of his ambition to have another meeting with Rupert Murdoch, to talk him through the issue, convert him to the cause. "There is still hope that he will awaken to the reality of this," Gore says. "It would make a huge difference if he would."
The climate campaign must really be getting desperate if they're summoning Al Gore and his astonishingly effective persuasive skills from the bullpen. I think it is more likely that Murdoch will tell the nouveaux riche Gore, "Look Al, here's how you make real money."

In their 93-page report, Heritage welfare expert Robert Rector and domestic policy scholar Jason Richwine break down the cost of amnesty to the U.S. taxpayer. Even accounting for the phased approach to implementing government benefits that some amnesty advocates favor, the long-term cost is astronomical.
If amnesty is enacted, the average adult unlawful immigrant would receive $592,000 more in government benefits over his lifetime than he would pay in taxes.
The lifetime fiscal deficit of amnesty - benefits minus taxes - would be $6.3 trillion, and that's a conservative estimate.
When those granted amnesty retire and collect Social Security, they would draw $3.00 out of the pot for every $1.00 they paid in.
In 2010, the average unlawful immigrant household received around $24,721 in government benefits and services while paying some $10,334 in taxes. That means that each illegal immigrant household today costs taxpayers $14,387 per year. Amnesty would provide unlawful households with access to over 80 means-tested welfare programs, Obamacare, Social Security, and Medicare. The fiscal deficit for each household would soar.
This is the kind of policy fight for which Jim DeMint was hired...If DeMint and Heritage - with its policy analyses and feisty advocacy arm - can help keep the right unified on immigration, it could force Democrats and the White House to accept amendments they don't like in order to get something through - or simply kill the bill.

Watt has strong support from liberals in both the House and the Senate as a longtime member of the House Financial Services Committee and advocate of federal affordable housing and homeownership subsidies.

Sen. Patrick Leahy is proposing an amendment to the gargantuan, 867-page Gang of 8 amnesty bill which will granting immigration privileges to same-sex partners of U.S. citizens. It's another effort on the part of lawmakers to grant special rights based solely on aberrant sexual conduct.
This amendment, which could be introduced as early as tomorrow (Thursday), will be another large step toward normalizing homosexual behavior at the federal level.
Such an amendment would clearly violate the spirit and intent of the Defense of Marriage Act, which defines marriage for federal purposes exclusively as the union of one man and one woman.
The bottom line is that we have enough sexual dysfunction in America as it is. We don't need to import more from foreign countries.
Email your senators TODAY and urge them to reject the Leahy same-sex amendment to the immigration bill.
There are other problems with this amnesty bill:
? According to the Heritage Foundation, the average illegal alien who would be legalized under this bill will consume $592,000 more in welfare benefits than he will pay in taxes over the course of his lifetime.
? The total cost to American taxpayers would be a staggering $6.3 trillion, a bill to be paid by our children and grandchildren since it will have to be borrowed or printed.
? According to Sen. Jeff Sessions, this bill, through chain migration and other provisions, will result in an immigration flood of 57 million people over the next ten years.
? The bill, as Sen. Chuck Schumer has often stated, legalizes 11 to 12 million illegal aliens immediately, long before any actual improvements in border security are made. Sound immigration policy dictates that the border be secured before any other immigration issues are addressed
