PHOTO: New evidence on Saudi national, Glenn reads cover of event file on radio
Wednesday, Apr 24, 2013
This story is being updated. Glenn said on radio that the suspect's prior event referenced in the cover letter was also tagged 212 3 B, but corrected when he returned from break that they are still investigating the prior event #1648067 .
Glenn spent the night tweeting that he had big news on the Saudi national story, and he delivered it this morning when he read from a copy of the event file on Abdul Rahman Ali Al-Harbi and delivered new information on this story.
"Now, you can tear me apart all you want. Bring it on. I've had my fill of it. I can take it. Bring it on. But it doesn't make the facts go away. Any reporter, any journalist that might be listening, do not take my word for it. Take the facts that I just gave and ask the Department of Homeland Security security now: 'Excuse me, explain away this.' And when they come to you with more lies, you come back here. Because we have more," Glenn said.
Here is the new information that Glenn revealed on radio today:
1) The event file created on Abdul Rahman Ali Al-Harbi indicated on page two that he is armed and dangerous.
2) He was admitted into this country under a special advisory option which is usually reserved for visiting politicians, VIPs, or journalists.
3) One of the first excuses given by law enforcement when confronted about his pending deportation was expired VISA. According to the event file his visa is good until 11-Nov-2016.
4) Event file indicates he entered the United States on 08/28/12 in Boston, MA but says subject is a student at the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio. He never showed up.
5) When an event file is created in the system the author(s) are notified via email when it is accessed and given the email address of the person accessing. As a result we know the following: After the file was created it first amended to remove the terrorism and deportation reference and then someone went back in and tried to destroy both the original and amended versions. They didn't know there were copies.
6) The original event file was reviewed and approved by two high level agents - Chief Watch Commander Maimbourg and Watch Commander Mayfield.

Good news! Thanks to you, and the efforts of taxpayers throughout Pennsylvania, the Abortion Opt Out of ObamaCare bill, HB 818 passed the PA House of Representatives, late yesterday, by the lopsided margin of 144-53.
The bill now awaits action in the Senate--and if it passes, Governor Tom Corbett is widely expected to sign it into law.
If HB 818 becomes law, it would be a victory for taxpayers, who do not wish to fund the grisly practice of abortion, and another blow to ObamaCare.
We are so blessed that over the last four years thousands of churches in over 60 countries have stood in solidarity with Israel through CUFI Sunday. Brigitte Gabriel to Speak
in Baltimore, MD!
Brigitte Gabriel
Leading Global Islamic Terrorism Expert
CLICK HERE to view Brigitte's special video invitation!
It is my privilege to invite you to a special event featuring Brigitte Gabriel, Founder and President of ACT! for America. This event is free and open to the public and will be held at the following:
Central Christian
7411 Rossville Blvd. Baltimore, MD 21237
Monday, May 6th at 7 pm
Ms. Gabriel will speak on the rise of Islamic radicalism in your community and in our nation. Her story of survival as a persecuted Christian living in a bomb shelter for 7 years will have you captivated and inspired! She will share how the events of 9/11 compelled her to start ACT! for America, the largest national security grassroots organization in the U.S.
The recent assaults at our embassies have been a sobering wake-up call to America. The lesson is that we should be displaying strength to our enemies, not appeasement which only demonstrates our weakness. Without question, the threats of radical Islam to America have increased.
These are just some of the threats Brigitte will discuss:
Suppression of criticism of Islam
Homegrown jihad
Terrorists infiltrating our borders
The Muslim Brotherhood and creeping sharia law in America
Misrepresentation of history in our public education
You will hear first-hand how ACT! for America is successfully rolling back the tide of radical Islam...how we are winning legislative victories...how we don't have to live in fear or resign ourselves to the inevitability of the threats arrayed against us...and how we will prevail.
I encourage you to forward this email to everyone you know. For those who are not familiar with ACT! for America, please share this short video with them.
I know those of you who have heard Brigitte will agree, not only do you not want to miss this, but you will want to bring your relatives and friends with you. It will be an event people will be talking about for a long time to come!
Invite your friends and come join us in Baltimore, MD! We look forward to seeing you on May 6th

June 19 - 21 we will convene at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC for our fourth annual National Conference & Legislative Briefing.
And here's some really great news: This year's registration fee is only $229! Register by April 15th and you'll receive our "Early Bird" rate of just $189!
We also offer again this year special benefits for Patriot Eagle and Patriot sponsors.
We have some exciting new wrinkles planned for this year's event, and our list of confirmed speakers already includes:
Steven Emerson - Journalist, author, and the Executive Editor of the Investigative Project on Terrorism. A. M. Rosenthal, late-managing editor of The New York Times, described Emerson as "one of the nation's best national security correspondents."
John Guandolo - Former FBI agent and one of America's leading authorities on the Muslim Brotherhood and its inner workings in America. Guandolo spoke at our conference in 2011 and received rave reviews from conference attendees!
Ezra Levant - Canadian lawyer, author, newspaper columnist with Sun Media, and former publisher of the Western Standard. Hauled before a Canadian "human rights commission" because he published the Danish cartoons that satirized Muhammad, Levant's personal account of a politically correct government inquisition is something you won't want to miss!
The National Conference & Legislative Briefing will begin on Wed. evening, June 19th, and conclude on Friday, June 21st at noon, with additional optional training sessions Friday afternoon.
It will again feature our very popular Capitol Hill Awards Luncheon and our signature gala banquet-and of course, our Legislative Briefing, where Members of Congress will brief you on various issues and answer your questions.
So make your plans now to join us in our nation's capital for what promises to be our best National Conference & Legislative Briefing ever!
More details to come!
As Israelis celebrate their 65th Independence Day this year, we should all take time out to reflect on the miracle of Israel's independence. We must also ask ourselves the question, "What can I do to ensure that this miracle of Israel survives and thrives?"
We announced earlier this week that we'll be headed to New Orleans the first weekend in August for this year's RedState Gathering. As a member of our RedState family, we'd like to extend exclusive Early Bird registration and pricing to you (just use the promo code EARLYBIRD on the registration page).
The 2013 RedState Gathering will be held August 2-3 at the Westin Canal Place in New Orleans, LA. We'll have two full days of speakers and activities and you can expect a good mix of elected officials and potential candidates for the 2014 cycle (we'll keep you informed as additions are made).
The Gathering has always been a unique event, in that all speakers, even the most in-demand and influential, pay their own way and make their own travel arrangements. This helps keep our costs low, a savings we are happy to pass along to our conference attendees. Additionally, we strive to get you up close to the speakers, ask them to take your questions, and we take care of nearly all your meals during the conference. Bottom line: fewer frills, more thrills and access.
We are thrilled to once again be joined by Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, who will be hosting a reception for all attendees and appear at the Gathering podium as a keynote speaker. A huge hit in 2012, we're looking forward to Gov. Jindal playing an even larger role this year as he welcomes us to his home state.
Now, more than ever, true conservative activists must come together to exchange ideas and strategize for the future. That's what this year's Gathering is all about. We hope you'll join us.
P.S. Don't delay! You'll receive 20% off if you register today - just use the promo code EARLYBIRD. Click here.
From a trusted friend:
As some of you may know, I am associated with Coventry Christian Schools as a parent of a graduate (2010) and as member of the Board of Trustees. Last October we spent a wonderful evening honoring Mark Niehls at our revitalized Founder's Dinner and celebrated our shared heritage in the remarkable community that is Coventry Christian Schools. Our vision for future Founder's Dinners is to inspire and inform not only our alumni and current CCS families but to inspire and inform the Tri-County Area and even our region by hosting speakers and artists who can uniquely assist us in celebrating the heritage, core values, and mission of CCS while also lifting our vision for an even greater future built upon the foundation of our past. The caliber of our speakers and guest artists should provide us with wonderful opportunities to share our CCS story with new partners in Christian education. Proceeds from the dinner will be applied to our annual Coventry Kids Fund for CCS scholarships.
This year we are proud to announce that our distinguished guest and speaker is Dr. Benjamin Carson, and our dinner's theme is "Faith of Our Fathers: The Role of Faith in American Schools." Please join us as we welcome Dr. Carson to the Tri-County Area and celebrate the great things God is doing at CCS!
Dr. Carson is a highly regarded neurosurgeon and motivational speaker who has addressed various audiences across the country. He is one of the most honored and recognized physicians in the world and holds more than 60 honorary doctorate degrees along with hundreds of awards and citations. He is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States. He is the author of five books and is the founder of the Carson Scholars Fund. The 2009 award-winning movie entitled Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. as Carson, premiered on TNT and is based on his memoir. Dr. Carson is an authentic disciple of Christ, has been married to his wife Candy for more than 37 years, and is the father of three sons.
The 2013 Founder's Dinner, which will once again be a part of our Homecoming festivities, will be held at the historic Sunnybrook Ballroom in Pottstown on Sunday, October 13th, 2013. Doors will open at 4:30pm, followed by dinner at 5:15. Dress will be business/professional. Tickets will be priced at $100 until May 15th, then will be $125, so reserve your tickets for the reduced price.
Due to Dr. Carson's international reputation and recent prominence in the media, including his recent speech at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast, we fully anticipate that this event will sell out quickly once advertised to the public. Tickets go on sale to the public April 15. If you are interested in attending, tickets can be purchased online. I will send the link out to those who wish to go on April 15
th
. While online reservations are preferred because they facilitate efficient event planning, you may also complete a paper order form, which I can forward to you as well.
All of us at Coventry Christian Schools, look forward to sharing this very special evening with you and acquainting you with the school and its mission!
Blessings,
Christine Gordon

Heritage Foundation weighs in on Common Core
By Rachel Sheffield April 11, 2013: Policy Analyst, The Heritage Foundation (courtesy of Citizens' Alliance of Pennsylvania)This coming school year, Pennsylvania public schools will begin implementing the Common Core education standards. Like many other states, Common Core standards are quickly making their way into the classroom. While proponents of the standards continue to champion their predicted benefits, there is significant cause for concern.First, the standards represent a massive federal overreach. The Obama Administration jumped on board from the get go, promoting national education standards, via policy and federal taxpayer dollars, as part of their education agenda. Billions of federal dollars have gone towards and are continuing to fund, the promotion and implementation of these standards nationwide. The federal government's involvement with the standards should be alarming. Pushing state and local leaders away from classroom curriculum is not only a breach in federalism but gives parents, teachers, and communities less say over what children learn in school. Education experts have also raised alarm over the quality of the standards. Sandra Stotsky, Professor of Education Reform at the University of Arkansas, has particularly expressed concern over the English Language Arts. Common Core's ELA standards reduce emphasis on literature by promoting the study of "informational texts." Stotsky says
, "A diminished emphasis on literature in the secondary grades makes it unlikely that American students will study a meaningful range of culturally and historically significant literary works before graduation. It also prevents students from acquiring a rich understanding and use of the English language. Perhaps of greatest concern, it may lead to a decreased capacity for analytical thinking."
Common Core goes SOCIAL MEDIA!!! Please share with everyone you know and help us make this a huge success. MARK YOUR CALENDAR!!! Not a TWITTER person.....grab a kid and have some fun.
Parent-Led Reform (@ParentLedReform) will host a Twitter Rally on April 16, 2013 which will start will go from 12:00p-2:00p (EST). We will discuss how the Common Core State Standards effect your family, community and schools? We invite you to participate.
There will be an expert panel and several organizations that will discuss#StopCommonCore. So far I know the panel will consist of:
I'll update with a live link for the Twitter Rally (or you can just follow the hashtag #StopCommonCore) and as the expert panel is finalized.
Update: Be sure to RSVP with the Facebook event invite, this will help keep you up to date with pertinent info.
The whole story on Common Core
Read the sourced and footnoted response to the National Review Online and get all the facts you need to know about Common Core HERE. Compiled by American Principles project and Glenn's research team.
Common Core is the new set of federal education standards being pushed by the Obama administration and several leftist organizations but it's even seeing some support from some conservatives.
defending Common Core, and Glenn gave the definitive response on radio today."Common Core is something that we didn't really get for quite some time and again it's something we've learned from the 9/12 project and concerned parents all around the country that have been bringing this to our attention. When we started in on this work, we thought it was pretty bad. The more we do, the worse it becomes," Glenn said.
Below are some of the points made by the National Review Online in defense of Common Core, followed by Glenn's response.
Today on radio, Glenn gave the definitive response. See that and get all the sources to back it up HERE.
Students in some Albany High School English classes were asked to participate in the unthinkable this week as part of a persuasive writing assignment. The objective? Prove why Jews are evil and convince the teacher of their loyalty to the Third Reich in five paragraphs or less. See the actual lessonHERE.
A concerned parent tipped off TheBlaze to the disturbing fact that NY public schools are teaching the U.N.'s Socialist-leaning Universal Human Rights. We also discovered that the schools are delivering this indoctrination using videos made by the Church of Scientology. Learn what our investigation revealedHERE.
TheBlaze has been at the forefront in uncovering the disturbing details of the nationalized curriculum standard known as Common Core. One of the most troubling aspects of this federal program is that government bureaucrats are currently mining sensitive and highly personal information on children through Common Core's tracking system. Watch the powerful segments from The Glenn Beck Program HERE.
What information is being collected on your kids through Common Core?
TheBlaze TV subscribers can watch past episodes covering Common Core and CSCOPE. The March 14th episode focused on Common Core and the March 7th episode focused on CSCOPE. Not a subscriber? Sign up HERE.
Glenn has spent a lot of time over the past few weeks exposing some of the education initiatives in states across the country that are indoctrinating kids into the radical progressive agenda. Today, Glenn discussed an issue tied into Common Core that many people aren't aware of: data mining.
"We cover many important stories and topics on this program, but I don't think any could be more important than what we are covering tonight: the progressive takeover of America's schools,"
OK....when they look at you like you have a tin foil hat on your head......take some of this information with you. It is 126 pages. I have not read through the entire document (YET) but what I have read is enough to blow off the top of your head. I have highlighted some stuff. KIPP (Charter Schools) has a CHARACTER REPORT CARD on Page 39. So for now start on page 39 and work your way through to page 45. Remember FERPA laws were changed last year and I am sure not one parent is aware that permission to share information about our children no longer requires parental consent. Obama just slipped all these new changes in and I don't believe any parents were ever asked their opinions about these changes. And where was our Republican Congress when this happened???
AGENDA 21 is: The complete control and inventory of every human activity. After your friends read some of this information ask them if they still believe A21 is not real. Chapter 36 of A21 document is devoted to education.
Our government forgets there are still people alive that can think and see through their garbage.
Print this document and get a highlighter...........then start visiting your neighbors, school boards, elected officials and start screaming. GET COMMON CORE AND THE GOVERNMENT out of our class rooms. I think it is time to start a MASS movement for Home Schooling. I know Home Schooling will not be spared. This should be a movement to bring education back to the local level and DESTROY the Federal Department of Education. If our kids are not in school it will create an uprising at all levels. We should not settle for shutting down Common Core because they will masquerade it....they are already doing this in VA. VA supposedly never signed on to Common Core but GUESS WHAT........they ARE implementing Common Core and disguising it from the citizens in VA....of course they aren't doing a good job of hiding it and people in VA are catching on. Our schools have been in the process of a government take over (in earnest) for more than 20 years. If we don't shut down the Department of Education it will never stop. We have to cause a citizen uprising!!
Here is the U.S. Department of Education - Office of Educational Technology document:
"The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government - lest it come to dominate our lives and interests"- Patrick Henry
To fix "THE SYSYEM" We must become "THE SYSTEM" - k. bracken "The change we seek has always required great struggle and great sacrifice." - Barack Hussein Obama "The man who speaks to you of sacrifice, speaks of slaves and masters. And intends to be the master." - Ayn Rand
Glenn: Help us get in millions of home
Why should you support the "Get TheBlaze" movement to get TheBlaze in millions of homes across the country? For starters, how about a network that will cancel out the damage Al-Jazeera will be doing in America as it replaces Current in your lineup? Check out Glenn's "why" in this exclusive letter HERE.
Ready to take action? Click here to contact your TV provider and urge them to add TheBlaze.

Rev. C.L. Bryant's documentary Runaway Slave has been a runaway hit! The film recently won the Crystal Dove Seal, and has been making waves across the country.
Runaway Slave is the story of C.L. Bryant, a former NAACP Chapter president who realized that the Democrat Party and progressive movement was hurting Africa-Americans and keeping them stuck on the government dole. Rev. Bryant discusses the impact of progressivism on the African-American community and how freedom works with a host of leaders including Dr. Alveda King, Herman Cain, Allen West, Dr. Thomas Sowell, and many others.
The Crystal Dove Seal award is given to films that are family-friendly and provide wholesome, educational content. Runaway Slave is an important movie for all audiences, and it has a message that should be heard if we want to achieve a society where character is king.
Congratulations to Rev. C.L. Bryant and the Runaway Slave team on their achievement!
Top Story Obama Counts on Media to Shift Blame for Flight Delays By Roger Aronoff | April 24, 2013 Americans have repeatedly learned from the mainstream media that some of their favorite services are threatened by the sequester, even though the agencies making the cuts have leeway in where, when and what is cut. Pennsylvanians have been inconvenienced by a Prohibition era liquor control system for eighty years.
With the passage of HB 790 in the Pennsylvania House, we are closer than ever before to getting government out of the business of selling and marketing alcohol. Unfortunately, members of the Senate Republican caucus seem reluctant to move the sale of wine and spirits wholly to the private sector where it belongs.
The first hurdle to choice and convenience in the Senate is the Law and Justice Committee. Despite overwhelming public support, Senator Chuck McIlhinney, the Chairman of the Law and Justice Committee has been a staunch opponent of privatization. As noted in a recent National Review article:
"He has already said he would have voted against the house bill, and though he says he supports 'smart privatization,' his most recent legislative action on the subject was a bill that would have preserved the state-monopoly structure with a few modifications, such as keeping stores open on Sundays - not privatization at all." (Emphasis added)
To mobilize the public CAP has launched a modest television ad buy targeting Sen. McIlhinney.
Sen. McIlhinney has a long history of siding with Big Government special interests. Our hope is that by educating the Senator's constituents, they will call his office and voice their support for privatization.
We would also encourage you to please take a moment to contact Senator McIlhinney:
Voice your support for privatization. If you would like more information on what principles liquor privatization should follow, please see this valuable research from The Commonwealth Foundation.
Citizens Alliance of Pennsylvania (CAP) is a non-profit organization founded to raise the standard of living of all Pennsylvanians by restoring limited government, economic freedom, and personal responsibility. By empowering the Commonwealth's employers and taxpayers to break state government's "Iron Triangle" of career politicians, bureaucrats, and Big Government lobbyists, this restoration will occur and Pennsylvania will prosper.
RedState Morning Briefing
For April 25, 2013
You will have to forgive me a personal note this morning.
Many people, including my boss, are surprised to learn I have a boss.In fact, I do have aboss.Well, I had a boss until today.Today is Joe's last day at our parent company. When Eagle Publishing, Inc. assumed control of RedState on January 1, 2007, I made a very conscious decision to stay in Macon, Georgia.Brent Bozell was downright insistent I never move to Washington lest RedState become compromised by the D.C. cocktail circuit. So I stayed put.
My boss, more often than not, has had to deal with headaches I might create while managing the flow of the business that is RedState while I bang away at the keyboard here in Macon.
At this point, whether I want it to be this way or not, I am RedState and RedState is me and that is no easy thing for a guy who is actually my boss to have to deal with on occasion.Joe has, day in and day out, dealt with RedState with class and style. He's been RedState's ever present cheerleader, emailing me at 5 a.m. if he hasn't gotten this Morning Briefing to start his day, and always working hard to ensure our style and editorial content remain true to our mission.
It's sometimes odd and sometimes confounding to steer this ship of site several hundred miles away from the home office. But for these past few years I've had a great peace of mind knowing Joe was there if I needed him. He's the unsung hero and unseen player here, running interference, making sure the business side of things works, and keeping us moving.
He's going to be missed. Thanks Joe for everything!

1.Republicans and Democrats in Washington Conspire to Exempt Themselves from Obamacare
If this happens, the nation needs to collectively march on Washington, DC, burn it to the ground, and spread salt over the ground.
According to the Politico, in super secret "high-level, confidential talks", Harry Reid, John Boehner, the Obama administration, and other lawmakers are working to exempt themselves and their staffs from Obamacare.
They want to rush it through, probably sneaking it through on some other legislation that no one cares about, and get it all done before anyone can say anything about it.
If the Republican Party leadership in Congress goes along with this ride, there will need to be a new third party that challenges both the GOP and Democrats.
2.The only thing more hypocritical than Terry McAuliffe? The Lefties now supporting him.
There's some raised eyebrows at some of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe's donors: specifically the detail that 78% of his funding in the last quarter came from out-of-state donors. Looking at the donor list, I note that some of the folks involve include: Terry's father-in-law Richard Swann, who is probably best known for being president, back in the day, of the infamously failed American Pioneer S&L; the Communication Workers of America, for whom McAuliffe once brokered a sweet, sweet credit card deal (which is what Creigh Deeds was referring to here); and Haim Saban, who has quite the taste for precisely the sort of offshore tax havens that the Democrats supposedly hate. And let me head off something at the pass: I will happily concede that none of those examples are examples of explicitly illegal activity on McAuliffe's part. Heavens forbid that I suggest that the man is a criminal - but the question is, is Terry McAuliffe a righteous man? . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3.The people who broke immigration will not help fix it
One aspect of my growing skepticism about the immigration reform proposals advanced by Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and his Gang of Eight partners is that our immigration system did not break by accident. It was mangled, deformed, defanged, and abused on purpose, by both government and private interests.Rubio's earnest enthusiasm would be appropriate for someone cleaning up after a natural disaster, but he's dealing with something closer to sabotage.
That's why all those promises about border security "triggers" ring so hollow. The elements of the Administration that would be responsible for enforcing those triggers are almost hilariously straightforward about saying they won't even seriously attempt to measure border security progress.Rubio is looking for good-faith assurances from people who have little good faith to offer.Between open-borders ideology and good old bureaucratic inertia, it's entirely predictable that the Administration will simply pronounce itself fully compliant with any standards laid out by the Gang of Eight legislation... and then savagely attack anyone who suggests otherwise. If skeptics in the years ahead actually try to delay the amnesty process because those triggers haven't been satisfied, they'll be denounced as xenophobes. The Democrats actually have incentives to force such a showdown, because it would be a political field day for them.. . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4.Gun Control: Treating The Symptoms
As the nation struggles to understand the attack at the Boston Marathon, the debate over background checks for gun buyers has received more attention from gun control advocates as a result. The left argues that stricter gun control laws might prevent tragedies such as the Boston bombings and the Newtown shooting. The right points out that criminals, including the Boston bombers, do not adhere to the law and creating new gun control laws won't persuade them to start.Neither side gets to the heart of the issue and yet it is only there that two may find agreement.
Where there is a will there is a way.At times this old proverb gives us hope for what can be achieved and, in times such as these, it is a sad truth. If people have the desire to hurt, they will find a way; be it gun, plane, pressure cooker or the rope used for suicide. What gives those who do harm the will is an intrinsic part of the investigation into the causation of violence, but in all cases the common denominator is mental health.. . . please click here for the rest of the post →
5.That's Mark Zuckerberg's Money They're Wasting at Americans for a Conservative Direction
So this group with the really crappy commercials, including the one about Lindsey Graham, I told you about yesterday is being funded by Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook.
6.To be Clear About Mark Zuckerberg's Americans for a Conservative Direction
I just want to be clear about about the new front group for the Gang of Eight's immigration proposal on the right, Americans for a Conservative Direction.
The group, funded by Facebook billionaire Mark Zuckerberg, is perfectly entitled to set up this group. A good bit of the center-right coalition supports the issue.
That's not my problem
My problem is that this is just another example of Republican consultants seemingly bleeding people dry for crappy work product.
They call themselves Americans for a Conservative Direction, but one of their first ads is a poorly produced ad supporting Lindsey Graham, who is not exactly a stalwart of the conservative movement these days.
Their website is poorly produced - more an alpha launch than a beta launch.
Even the Marco Rubio advertisement, which is airing in Texas today, is poorly produced.

Gutfeld: Comparing Muslim to Christian Extremism Like Comparing Hurricane Katrina to A Squirt Gun...
NATIONAL SECURITY NIGHTMARE: SAUDI STUDENT ENROLLMENTS SKYROCKET FROM 11,116 IN 2006 TO 71,026 LAST YEAR
Remember that all Saudi students were QUIETLY given "preferred status," i.e. allowed to avoid airport screening, by Janet Napolitano back early this year.
Consider this report from USA Today from earlier this year: (via Walid Shoebat, thanks to Van)
In just seven years, Saudi student enrollments have skyrocketed from 11,116 in 2006, to 71,026 last year, according to the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission to the United States, the Virginia-based agency that administers the scholarship. Nearly all recipients (95%) start with language training, which can take anywhere from a month to a year or more, officials say.

THROATS SLIT, TRIPLE JEWISH MURDER TIED TO BOSTON JIHAD BOMBER HAPPENED ON SEPTEMBER 11TH
UPDATE: Under the tutelage of a friend known to the Tsarnaev family only as Misha, Tamerlan gave up boxing and stopped studying music, his family said. He began opposing the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. He turned to websites and literature claiming that the CIA was behind the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and Jews controlled the world.
What I didn't know was that there were three victims, all Jewish, or that they had their throats slit on September 11. We know that under Islam, slaughtering Jews is the most "righteous" of all kuffar murder: "I killed my Jew!"
Police in a Boston suburb are investigating whether slain Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev was involved in the unsolved murders of his close friend and two other men, one of whom was a Brandeis University graduate and the other a devout Jew.
Police probe possible link between Marathon bomber and unsolved triple homicide in WalthamBoston.com (thanks to Steve)
Tie sought between brother, 3 killings
It was one of the most gruesome killings in Greater Boston in many years: three young men found with their throats slit inside a Waltham apartment on a quiet residential street, their bodies sprinkled with marijuana.
Now, police and prosecutors are stepping up their investigation into the unsolved 2011 triple homicide at the request of victims' relatives who believe that suspected Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev may have played a role, noting that Tsarnaev had been close friends with one of the dead men.
What is more, the grieving relatives say the killings took place on a highly symbolic date for Islamic extremists: the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

The murderer is the new celebrity. He emerges out of nowhere with a rags to mass murder story, and is swiftly accorded all the trappings of fame. Reporters track down anyone who knew him to learn about his childhood and his main influences. Relatives and friends both contribute fuzzy anecdotes, mostly indistinguishable from the ones they would present if he were competing on American Idol or running for president.
The disaffected form fan clubs around him. The experts discuss what his rise to fame means. Books are written about him and then perhaps a movie. And then it ends and begins all over again.
The Tsernaev brothers, the living one and the dead one, are already receiving that treatment. Like most murderers they have already become more famous than their victims. More famous than the rescuers. The original Tamerlane is better known than any of his countless victims. The new one is already eclipsing his victims. Before long one of those Chechen bards whose videos he tagged into his playlist on YouTube will write a ballad about the Boston massacre and the circle will be complete.
That ballad, murderous and vile, will still be more honest than most of the media coverage about the two Chechen Muslims has been. The media's coverage is weighed down by its old fetish of murder as celebrity. The media covers murderers and celebrities in the same way. It writes exhaustively about them, but rarely meaningfully. The murderer, like the celebrity, is famous for being famous. And fame clips context and suppresses meaning. It becomes its own reference. A thing is famous for being known. It is known for being famous. It enters the common language as a reference. A metaphor.
In the case of the Tsernaevs, the surface coverage, the endless rounds of interviews with friends and relatives, with anyone who ever met them or retweed them, is mandatory because it avoids the more difficult question of why they killed.
The better news outlets answer with convenient terms like "radicalization" or "self-radicalization" and much of the public, primed to react to meaningless political jargon as if it had meaning, will think that they understand. A radical, they know, is a bad person, except for a brief period when surfers and ninja turtles could use it and still be good people. They don't quite know why that is, but they also don't know why high debt is good for the economy or why Islam is a religion of peace.
Radical and extremist are convenient terms for dismissing people and subjects without discussing them. Mental shortcuts like that can be convenient. No one really wants to spend every waking moment debating the people who think that the moon landing was faked or that we are ruled over by miniature T-Rex's who somehow look just like people. But when the body count gets high enough, dismissing it as extremism or radicalism doesn't hold up. The question must be discussed.
The experts point to foreign policy, but Muslim violence began a thousand years before the United States existed as an independent political entity. The younger Tsernaev sibling scrawled something about the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, prompted or unprompted, but Iraq is yesterday's news and America is in Afghanistan because of the Muslim attacks of September 11. We can keep retracing every event and connecting it to a prior event, but the constraints of history will swiftly take us back to before Independence Hall, Columbus and for that matter the English language.
Disregarding early childhood photographs of a very young Kim Jong Un dressed up as a little general, Pyongyang's current leader never served in uniform.
Our nation's laws constitute a contract that every citizen implicitly agrees to respect. Those who violate it face sanctions of corresponding severity.

The problem isn't just illegal immigration, it's legal immigration, too
Dear Fellow Conservative,
The people of Boston are no longer being terrorized by the Marathon bombers, but amnesty supporters sure are.
On CNN's "State of the Union" last weekend, Sen. Lindsey Graham's response to the Boston Marathon bombers being worthless immigrants who hate America - one of whom the FBI cleared even after being tipped off by Russia - was to announce: "The fact that we could not track him has to be fixed."
Track him? How about not admitting him as an immigrant?
Did Obama Administration Drop The Ball? Does The Sun Rise In The East?
After a briefing yesterday on the Boston Marathon bombings for members of the Senate Intelligence Committee, the committee's ranking member, Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), said:
"There now appears that there may have been some evidence that was obtained by one of the law enforcement agencies that did not get shared in a way that it could have been. ...
"Information sharing between agencies is critical. ...we're going to get to the bottom of whether or not somebody along the way dropped the ball on some information and did not share it in a way that it should have been shared."
Chambliss may well be right. The Boston Globe is reporting, "Russian authorities alerted the US government not once but 'multiple' times over their concerns about Tamerlan Tsarnaev." Reuters tells us that Tamerlan's name was included on the government's "highly classified central database of people it views as potential terrorists." Five years of Obama has taken us back to a pre-9/11 mindset in which agencies do not share information.
Meanwhile we are learning a bit more about the bombers and their motivation. They hated America so much they wanted to kill as many innocent Bostonians as possible, and they were also collecting state welfare benefits! The cover of today's Boston Herald reads: "What Nerve -- Mastermind of Boston Terror Hated us...But Took Our Money." Of course they took our money. Why not use the infidel taxpayer to subsidize your jihad?
And while some in America are struggling to comprehend the jihadists' motivation, their mother's comments to CNN are quite revealing:
"My oldest son is killed, so I don't care. I don't care if my youngest son is going to be killed today. I want the world to hear this. And, I don't care if I am going to get killed too. And I will say 'Allahu Akbar!'"
All week she has denied her sons could ever do what they are charged with. Now her own Islamist bile is on display.
By the way, we have been warning for a long time that the problem with radical Islam is more widespread than some people will admit. There are big problems right here in the Washington, D.C. area. Several years ago, a local Islamic school valedictorian was arrested and convicted of plotting to assassinate former President George W. Bush.
Now police in Fairfax County, Virginia are investigating an individual spouting radical Islamic rants who has been trolling a website called the Fairfax Underground making what police have called "disturbing statements." Last week he threatened a massacre at Paul VI Catholic high school and closed the threat with "Allahu Akbar!"
Boston & Immigration Reform
Democrats in Washington are working hard to make sure that their immigration reform bill doesn't get dragged down by the Boston bombings. But one of their own, Bob Beckel, evidently didn't get the memo.
Beckel is a veteran Democrat operative. He worked on Robert Kennedy's presidential campaign, worked in the Carter Administration and managed Walter Mondale's 1984 presidential campaign. He raised eyebrows this week when he said on a Fox News show:
"We have to really consider, given the fact that so many people hate us, that we're going to have to cut off Muslim students coming to this country for some period of time ... and decide whether some of the people here should be sent back home or to prison."
The roof has not caved in on Beckel, presumably because he is a liberal Democrat, the way it would have if Rush Limbaugh had made that comment. But I suspect most Americans would not see bigotry, but perhaps common sense precaution in Beckel's remarks.
I also suspect most Americans would be surprised to learn that since 9/11 there has been a 500% increase in the number of Saudis studying in America. And the same government that could not keep tabs on Tamerlan Tsarnaev recently added Saudi Arabia to its "trusted traveler program."
If we are bringing so many young Saudis to U.S. universities to study here because we believe that doing so makes them more inclined to like the United States, it would help that goal if the professors teaching them did not despise America themselves.
Unfortunately, the evidence is overwhelming that most left-wing professors may not particularly like America. College textbooks often teach anti-American history. And the culture on most college campuses is unlikely to instill patriotism or a love of America.
"Academic Cesspools"
As a former Under Secretary of Education during the Reagan Administration, there is little that boils my blood more than the anti-American bias at our so-called "institutions of higher learning." I commend to everyone reading this report a column by Walter Williams entitled "Academic Cesspools."
Williams writes about a report commissioned by Thomas Klingenstein examining the intellectual and political "diversity" of Bowdoin College. It is a disturbing representation of the radical leftist culture at one of America's elite institutions -- a culture that is all too common throughout the country. Consider these excerpts:
"There are 'no curricular requirements that center on the American founding or the history of the nation.' Even history majors aren't required to take a single course in American history. ...As for political diversity, the report estimates that 'four or five out of approximately 182 full-time faculty members might be described as politically conservative.' During the 2012 presidential campaign, 100 percent of faculty donations went to President Barack Obama."
I urge parents with high school seniors to carefully examine the schools your college-bound children will be attending and the courses they will be taking.
If you are donor to any alumni programs, learn from Mr. Klingenstein's example and find out exactly what your money is funding at your alma mater. You may be stunned and disgusted. I strongly encourage you to redirect your resources to organizations that defend, rather than denigrate, your values and our country.
House Report Blasts Hillary On Benghazi
House Republicans released a preliminary report on the terrorist attacks against our consulate in Benghazi, Libya. The report is a conglomeration of findings from five House committees that have been investigating the attacks. The report has three main conclusions: Hillary misled Congress, there was a cover-up and the Obama White House misled the American people. You can read more here.
The report is a good start. But at this stage I believe it makes more sense to combine and continue the work of the five committees into a single Watergate-style select committee on Benghazi.
Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) has introduced a resolution calling for the creation of such a committee specifically empowered to thoroughly investigate the Benghazi attacks. One hundred-twenty House Republicans have co-sponsored his resolution, and the idea is also supported by hundreds of retired Special Operations officers.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton left the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, vulnerable by approving lax security measures, a report released Tuesday by House Republicans concluded. The 46-page report accused Clinton - a possible White House contender in 2016 - of seeking to cover up failures by the State Department that could have contributed to the attack last year that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans. The report, compiled by five House panels after a seven-month investigation, said Clinton approved reductions in security levels prior to the Sept. 11, 2012, attack, contradicting Clinton's testimony before the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Jan. 23.

April 24, 2013 USA Today blockbuster article exposes mosques in the Boston area!
Amid all the typical politically correct news stories and ruminations by pundits about the Boston Marathon terrorist attack, USA Today ran an article this morning (highlights added) that exposes the radicalism prevalent in two Boston-area mosques and their ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.
When you read the story-and we urge you to do so-pay particular attention to how mosque leaders react. (We realize it's longer than what we typically send out, but this really is a must read!)
First, they claim that because the FBI and Homeland Security partner with them they can't possibly be extreme. This is a classic Muslim Brotherhood tactic-co-opt law enforcement leadership to provide cover and credibility.
Second, they claim they are the targets of modern-day "McCarthyism" and use propaganda techniques to smear their critics-another Muslim Brotherhood tactic.
Kudos to our friends at Americans for Peace and Tolerance for all their research on these mosques, and kudos to USA Today for using that research to expose what well-informed observers have known about these mosques for quite some time.
Mosque that Boston suspects attended has radical ties
Oren Dorell, USA TODAY April 24, 2013
Terror suspects, fugitives and radical speakers have passed through the Cambridge mosque that the Tsarnaev brothers are known to have visited.
BOSTON - The mosque attended by the two brothers accused in the Boston Marathon double bombing has been associated with other terrorism suspects, has invited radical speakers to a sister mosque in Boston and is affiliated with a Muslim group that critics say nurses grievances that can lead to extremism.
Several people who attended the Islamic Society of Boston mosque in Cambridge, Mass., have been investigated for Islamic terrorism, including a conviction of the mosque's first president, Abdulrahman Alamoudi, in connection with an assassination plot against a Saudi prince.
Its sister mosque in Boston, known as the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center, has invited guests who have defended terrorism suspects. A former trustee appears in a series of videos in which he advocates treating gays as criminals, says husbands should sometimes beat their wives and calls on Allah (God) to kill Zionists and Jews, according to Americans for Peace and Tolerance, an interfaith group that has investigated the mosques.
The head of the group is among critics who say the two mosques teach a brand of Islamic thought that encourages grievances against the West, distrust of law enforcement and opposition to Western forms of government, dress and social values.
Boston Bombing Shows Immigration Not Only a Border Problem
April 24, 2013
by Phyllis Schlafly
The Boston bombing crime shows that comprehensive immigration reform should not be only a southern border problem or even just a problem of illegal aliens. It's also a problem of foreigners who are admitted legally but should never have been admitted, and of others admitted legally on a visa but are not tracked to make sure they depart when their visitor's time expires, as U.S. law requires.
On Tuesday night, Fox News host Bill O'Reilly clashed with Nihad Awad, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), during a segment focused the impact of radical Islamic terrorism around the world. CAIR was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation trial, the largest terrorism financing trial in U.S. history. Watch the segmentHERE.

A conservative group in Colorado calling itself "Citizens for Free and Fair Elections" has come under fire for a seemingly inexplicable work of Photoshop. Earlier this week, a Blaze reader reached out to us with a video from the American Muslim Center, a mosque in Everett, Massachusetts. The clip, which is posted on the mosque's website, advertises the house of worship's many activities. However, as the reader points out, a woman named "Kat" is shown in the video speaking about how she recently converted to Islam. Could she be the widow of the dead Boston bombings suspect? See the videoHERE.
As law enforcement experts work to solve the mystery of last week's terrorist attacks, several U.S. lawmakers have suggested that we use this time to discuss immigration policy. A few have gone so far as to say that current immigration policy is related to (if not directly responsible for) the Boston Marathon bombings. The seven democrat and republican lawmakers who say now would be a really, really solid time to rethink how we handle immigration areHERE.

After images were released of what looks like a 6-inch alien creature, a lot of buzz began to generate around a documentary film titled "Sirius." Filmmakers said the documentary would reveal that the DNA of the miniature creature couldn't be medically classified, insinuating that it was a foreign life form. Well, the DNA test results are in. As it turns out, the 6-inch humanoid is, in fact, likely human. Learn just how close the creature is to us and watch the film's trailerHERE.
Reuters is reporting that sources close to the Boston Marathon bombing say Tamerlan Tsarnaev was listed on the government's "highly classified" database of potential terrorists. "But the list is so vast that this did not mean authorities automatically kept close tabs on him."
The sources said Tamerlan Tsarnaev's details were entered into TIDE, a database maintained by the National Counterterrorism Center, because the FBI spoke to him in 2011 while investigating a Russian tip-off that he had become a follower of radical Islamists.
The database holds more than a half million names, "although they represented about 450,000 actual people, because some of the entries are aliases or different name spellings for the same person."
The relationship between the American Left and Islam is that of masochist and sadist; the perfect Suicide Cult means the Death Cult of its dreams. No wonder they got along so well together, right up to the moment when they didn't.
Lawmakers questioning the FBI's treatment of a tip about the radicalization of Tamerlan Tsarnaev may begin to find some answers in last year's review of another case in which known extremism was downplayed with fatal results.

Obama's making the sequester as painful as possible
"As travelers nationwide are learning, the White House has decided to express its dislike of the sequester -- otherwise known as modestly smaller government -- by choosing to cut basic air traffic control services. ... Start with the Federal Aviation Administration, better known as the Postal Service without the modern technology. Flyers directly fund two-thirds of the FAA's budget through 17 airline taxes and fees -- about 20% of the cost of a $300 domestic ticket, up from 7% in the 1970s. Yet now the White House wants to make this agency that can't deliver what passengers are supposedly paying for even more dysfunctional. Ponder this logic, if that's the right word: The sequester cuts about $637 million from the FAA, which is less than 4% of its $15.9 billion 2012 budget, and it limits the agency to what it spent in 2010. The White House decided to translate this 4% cut that it has the legal discretion to avoid into a 10% cut for air traffic controllers. Though controllers will be furloughed for one of every 10 working days, four of every 10 flights won't arrive on time. The FAA projects the delays will rob one out of every three travelers of up to four hours of their lives waiting at the major hubs. Congress passed a law in 2009 that makes such delays illegal, at least if they are the responsibility of an airline. Under President Obama's 'passenger bill of rights,' the carriers are fined millions of dollars per plane that sits on the tarmac for more than three hours. ... This is a political pose to make the sequester more disruptive. ... It is actively creating even more delays, cancellations and missed connections in order to incite a public outcry on behalf of bigger government. ... For all of its rough edges, the sequester is proving to be educational. It is showing Americans how broken so much of government is, and it is revealing how our politicians refuse to distinguish between essential services and needless waste." --The Wall Street Journal

"The Boston Herald has broken the story ... that 'Tamerlan Tsarnaev was living on taxpayer-funded state welfare benefits even as he was delving deep into the world of radical anti-American Islamism.' A responsible national establishment press would treat this as an important story, because, as the Herald's Chris Cassidy noted in the understatement of the day, it 'raises questions over whether Tsarnaev financed his radicalization on taxpayer money.' ... It's pretty obvious that the family's dependence should be a national story at AP, the New York Times, and on the broadcast and cable TV networks, as it also raises the question of how many others might be living on taxpayer money while plotting to do us harm. Will it be? Don't hold your breath." --Newsbusters' Tom Blumer
"Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the oldest of the two Boston bomber suspects, is now the fifth suspected terrorist to be questioned by the FBI

they attempted their acts of terror. ... Yet we not only persist with political correctness, we now go so far as to actually arm our enemies. The Obama administration persists in giving F-16s and advanced tanks to Egypt, even after the Muslim Brotherhood ... took power. While we revise stylebooks and debate the power of movies and music over the power of jihad, our enemies laugh -- and plan future attacks. Political correctness kills." --Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the American Center for Law and Justice"'They failed because the people of Boston refused to be intimidated,' the president said referring to the brothers Tsarnaev. Furthermore, if three people killed and more than 170 wounded, several of whom have had limbs completely blown off, is considered a 'failure,' one can only imagine what this president considers a 'success.' ... Eric Holder: 'Banning homeschooling does not violate rights'
Posted on
April 24, 2013
Here is another insight into the minds of liberals. They think they know better on how to raise your kids.
Check it out:
It is thought control. It is belief control. It is totalitarianism dressed up in politically correct lingo.
But my goal today is to not belabor the nature of German repression of homeschooling; rather I seek to reveal the view of the United States government to all of this.
The Romeikes' case is before the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. The case for the government is officially in the name of the Attorney General of the United States. The case is called Romeike v. Holder. Thus, the brief filed by the U.S. Department of Justice is filed on behalf of the attorney general himself-although we can be reasonably certain he has not personally read it. Nonetheless, it is a statement of the position of our government at a very high level.
We argued that Germany is a party to many human rights treaties that contain specific provisions that protect the right of parents to provide an education that is different from the government schools. Parents have the explicit right to give their children an education according to their own philosophy.
While the United States government argued many things in their brief, there are three specific arguments that you should know about.
Kermit Gosnell's defense has rested without calling a single witness, according to an eyewitness inside the courtroom.
Jack McMahon.
Gosnell's attorney, Jack McMahon, "tersely announced, 'Defense rests' as [the] jury was seated after lunch," tweeted J.D. Mullane of the Bucks County Courier Times, the local newspaper that has covered the trial since its beginning six weeks ago.
Gosnell's co-defendant, Eileen O'Neill, ended her defense after calling her character witnesses.
Mullane added that Judge Jeffrey Minehart had dismissed the jury until Monday.
Gosnell could face the death penalty if the jury finds him guilty of snipping the spinal columns of the four unborn babies who are the focus of this trial. He faces four murder charges and numerous other offenses, including infanticide and a separate third degree murder charge in the death of 41-year-old Karnamaya Mongar.
Yesterday, Judge Minehart dismissed nine charges against the Philadelphia abortionist, including three murder charges.
This morning, he reinstated one murder charge and dismissed a different one. He had tossed the charge relating to "Baby C," a newborn whom an eyewitness testified was alive 20 minutes before being "aborted." Instead, Minehart meant to throw out the case of "Baby F."

The Newtown killings had anti-gunners licking their chops from CNN to Capitol Hill. Years of working to undermine the right to keep and bear arms had come virtually to naught for gun confiscationists, but they knew the deaths of 20 children could be manipulated any way they liked, allowing them to make the most asinine and unsupportable claims imaginable about the evils of gun ownership. Call it a benefit of owning the national media.
So Barack and friends spent months dancing on the graves of 20 sons and daughters while cooking up senate bills and executive "actions" advocating every conceivable violation of 2nd Amendment rights.
But rather than intimidate Americans into disposing of firearms, every new assault on gun rights, every announced scheme to ban the purchase and ownership of weapons only accelerated public demand, especially for guns the political ruling class had threatened to confiscate!
Ken Masugi's long post about "The Big Bang Theory" (the TV show, not the theory) at the LibertyLaw site deserves more notice than just a link in our Picks section. Do read it; it is philosophical-scientific-cultural criticism at its best, with a special bonus of James Schall.
I've been meaning to comment on BBT myself, but keep putting it off. BBT is clearly the best TV science fiction comedy since the original Star Trek series in the 1960s. (Yes, I did say "comedy series" about Trek: TOS; has there ever been a show that has given us as many enduring laughs than TOS? Simple scientific proof: compare William Shatner to any other space ship captain. QED. I rest my case. Don't even get me started about the complete travesties that were the Trek TV series revivals in the 1980s and 1990s. Ugh and double-ugh. Piccard can keep his Earl Grey tea, and his UN General Assembly mentality.)
So one night I'm catching the beginning of a BBT rerun while quaffing my nightly dram of Laphroaig and preparing dinner, and I overhear Sheldon Cooper let fly with the following:
There's an economic concept known as a positional good in which an object is only valued by the possessor because it's not possessed by others.
At this point I perked up my ears, because . . . no, it couldn't be, could it? Does someone on the BBT writing staff actually know the obscure book where this term originated? The answer, after a dramatic pause, turned out to be Yes. Sheldon explained:
The term was coined in 1976 by economist Fred Hirsch to replace the more colloquial, but less precise "neener-neener".
No way! Wow. Who says TV is a vast wasteland, anyway? Aside from the great Fred Siegel, myself, and a small handful of other very nerdy fans, Hirsch's Social Limits to Growth is a forgotten classic because it was way ahead of its time, but it explains a lot about why affluent people particularly on the two coasts today are not just indifferent to economic growth, but positively opposed to it in many cases. (This book is so out of print that for some reason the Kindle version is quoted at $57. Though this could be an inside joke that only Hirsch fans will get. Talk about the ultimate positional good in bibliophilia.)
Sheldon's summary that the argument is a better version of "neener-neener" is amazingly accurate; another way of summarizing Hirsch's thesis is that our problem today is not that people want to "keep up with the Joneses," but want to "keep ahead of the Joneses." And the best way to do that is to keep the other Joneses down. Upper middle class people, Hirsch predicted, would come to see further economic growth as a threat to their well being, rather than something from which they and everyone else would benefit. This is one reason why contemporary liberalism, which as recently as John F. Kennedy prized growth, is today indifferent to the idea, when it is not actively opposed in practice. Cue Keystone, or just about everything California does.
So I still think there's a place for a sitcom about Washington think tanks, where a clueless wonk explains in a bold new policy paper how we can reduce traffic fatalities through the simple expedient of putting a razor-sharp 10-inch knife on every auto steering wheel, sticking out directly at the driver. It would work! Ryan Stiles would make the perfect John Lott. In fact I can see Sheldon Cooper testifying on the idea before Henry Waxman. Cue the lights!
The powers that be at Dartmouth College have canceled classes for all-day left-wing indoctrination today. Like the warden in Cool Hand Luke, they mean to get the students' minds right. Where can I go to get the pro rata portion of my daughter's tuition back? Dartmouth senior Blake Neff hasn't answered that question, but the same issue is on his mind and he has kindly responded to our request for a summary of the doings on campus. Mr. Neff reports:
The events began last week, during the Dimensions weekend for admitted students. During Dimensions, there was an event where prospective students were assembled in the food court, Class of 1953 Commons, for a surprise musical show about Dartmouth put on by students. During the Dimensions show for admitted students, this happened:
The next night Dean Charlotte Johnson sent out an all-campus email saying that these protesters were being threatened and that that's completely unacceptable. She said nothing about the protesters except that their "choice of venue [could] be debated." Keep in mind, they broke into a closed event by violently shoving people out of the way.
Then yesterday said protesters met with the administration and delivered a letter listing the threats and attacks made on them since the protest. Almost all of these attacks were made on Bored@Baker, an anonymous internet forum popular with students. Several of the comments were objectionable, but at the same time they were par for the course (or even tame) for anonymous Internet commentary. Based on these attacks, the one request they could come up with was to cancel classes and replace it with a day of indoctrination.
Naturally, the administration has completely folded, while so far there has been no talk whatsoever of punishing the protesters for grossly violating the Code of Conduct by violently breaking into the event. For the sake of comparison, last year an anti-abortion display was run over by a car and there wasn't so much as a public statement about it from the College. About 15 years ago, two professors were murdered and the school didn't shut down. Now, a handful of threats made against a handful of students apparently warrant shutting down a school of 6,000 students.
I am unfathomably angry about all of this, given that I've been robbed of a day of classes and about $290 in tuition. I imagine many faculty members are upset as well; one of them pointed out to me that if standards were consistent, the protesters should face a minimum of a three-term suspension. Instead, everybody else is getting punished, while they receive exactly what they want.
UPDATE: At Dartblog Joe Asch is flooding the zone with coverage of the debacle. Joe has posted the photo below under the school's motto, Vox Clamantis in Deserto.
Appearing at the Erie Neighborhood House and a City Club of Chicago lunch with the Democrat, Ryan forcefully pushed back on conservatives like former Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) and Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), who think opening the gates to legalizing undocumented immigrants will plunge the nation into further fiscal ruin.
"If we have a modern immigration system that works, then what we will see is better economic growth and more tax revenues in totality at the end of the day," Ryan said, adding that border security will cost money. "And I think that's the holistic view we have to take a look at when we're measuring the cost of this bill."
Ryan expressly endorsed the legalization of illegal aliens - i.e., amnesty - as a core element of what should be in an immigration bill. These elements, as reported by Politico are: "securing the borders, creating immigration laws that can be enforced, a "workable guest worker system," a pathway to "earned legalization" that encourages undocumented immigrants to "come out of the shadows," and an expedited legalization process for children who were born in the U.S." [Note: Presumably, the last element should have read an 'expedited legalization process' for those who came illegally to the U.S. before they turned 16. Children born in the U.S. are already legal].
Ryan also supports a pathway to citizenship. To be sure, he says the "first order of business is to secure the border and have necessary triggers that border security metrics are being met before we proceed with the rest of immigration reform." But that's what Marco Rubio said too. As Janet Napolitano's testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings showed, meaningful "border security metrics" are a myth.
It appears, then, that Ryan will support legislation that grants illegal aliens amnesty and a path to citizenship. He may well do a better job than Rubio of forcing the Dems to include an extra hoop or two in the legislation, but these "improvements" will be more cosmetic than real.
Ryan has a well-deserved reputation for expertise on fiscal matters. So his "fiscal blessing" of comprehensive immigration reform may carry weight among his House colleagues. Whether his general blessing will carry weight remains to be seen. One hopes that it will be seen as hopelessly naive - the triumph of hope over experience.
When even the New York Times calls you "the Solyndra of the electric car industry," you know you've had it. Fisker, another Obamanation that cost taxpayers over $500 million in subsidies and props, was losing more than $500,000 per vehicle. (But I'm sure they made up for it in volume.) I especially like this droll bit of narrative in the Times' story: "Fisker, with its technical problems, management turmoil and mounting losses, offers a cautionary tale in the fiercely competitive arena of alternative-fuel vehicles and of government subsidies for start-up businesses."
A cautionary tale? This almost begs for a new contest in cluelessness, along the lines of "Islam may have played secondary role in terrorist bombing." How about: "The attack on Pearl Harbor offers a cautionary tale in neglecting intelligence and the intentions of your enemy." "Electing Obama is a cautionary tale in neglecting to notice that he's an inexperienced radical loon."
But I digress. The Wall Street Journal's story about Fisker goes beyond just the ridiculous costs to explain how the Fisker . . . basically sucked pondwater:
For a few months in 2012, Bruce Simon, the chief executive of gourmet food retailer Omaha Steaks International Inc., drove a $100,000 plug-in hybrid electric car known as the Fisker Karma. No longer.
Mr. Simon says his car broke down four times over the span of a few months. Each time, Fisker Automotive Inc. picked it up and sent it by trailer from his home in Omaha, Neb., to a dealer in Minneapolis.
The Karma was "so vulnerable to software errors, and the parts used were of such poor quality that eventually I insisted they take the car back and return my purchase price, which they did," he says. "It's a real shame, the car itself was beautiful."
The fact that the Fisker flagship model was called the "Karma" is beyond the worst cliché of a bad satirist, since it clearly didn't have any but the bad kind. That it was manufactured in Finland (silly us-we thought Obama's green energy subsidies were for American jobs) makes the farce even greater.
Here's a suggestion for bankrupt Fisker: since Power Line's coveted Green Weenie Award is a soybean-based product, take yours and squeeze the soy oils out of it, refine it into diesel, and drop some in your tank. It'll show that our dogma can outrun your Karma.
The Boston Globe has been engaged in serious damage control on behalf of the Cambridge mosque attended by Tamerlan Tsarnaev. In "About that mosque," we noted the mosque's well known Islamist flavor. There's a story there, and Oren Dorell glimpses it in USA Today's "Mosque that Boston suspects attended has radical ties."
Dorell's article is must reading in its entry. One highlight is the purported refutation of its thesis by the executive director of the owner of the mosque, the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center:
Yusufi Vali, executive director at the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center, insists his mosque does not spread radical ideology and cannot be blamed for the acts of a few worshipers.
"If there were really any worry about us being extreme," Vali said, U.S. law enforcement agencies such as the FBI and Departments of Justice and Homeland Security would not partner with the Muslim American Society and the Boston mosque in conducting monthly meetings that have been ongoing for four years, he said, in an apparent reference to U.S. government outreach programs in the Muslim community.
The FBI was alerted by Russian intelligence officials multiple times about their fears over Tamerlan Tsarnaev and a senator on Congress' intelligence committee told the Herald the alleged Boston Marathon terrorist bomber may have flown under the agency's radar because he wasn't tied to al-Qaeda.
One senator, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the briefing was classified, said federal intelligence officials admitted yesterday they had been contacted more than once about Tsarnaev before he traveled to Dagestan, in Russia.
It's early, but I'm recognizing George Neumayr for the quote of the day: "It is almost as if the Obama administration considers security vigilance itself a species of Islamophobia."
News from The Hill:
House GOP delays vote on ObamaCare By Pete Kasperowicz
House Republicans have pulled a bill that would extend a provision of Obamacare amid opposition from their members and some conservative groups.
The House was expected to debate the bill and consider amendments Wednesday afternoon. But moments after the House approved a rule for the bill, members began a series of end-of-day speeches instead of moving to the bill.
Cantor: House GOP 'forging ahead' with ObamaCare bill By Elise Viebeck and Russell Berman
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said Wednesday his party is "forging ahead" with legislation that repeals part of ObamaCare to prop up the healthcare law's insurance coverage for high-risk patients.
House Republican leaders refused to predict on Wednesday morning whether they could pass the bill, which the White House has threatened to veto.
House conservatives call for new vote to repeal ObamaCare By Russell Berman
House conservatives are clamoring for a floor vote on a full repeal of the 2010 healthcare overhaul, saying that freshman Republicans need an opportunity to tell their constituents they tried to scrap the law.
Frustration is mounting in the conservative ranks over the party leadership's decision to bring up legislation that modifies but does not eliminate President Obama's signature domestic policy achievement. That bill, which shifts money to boost high-risk insurance pools, is facing stiff resistance, and its passage on Wednesday is in doubt.
As the country continues to reel over the attacks in Boston last week, some in Washington quickly looked for ways to use the attacks to justify their political goals on border security and immigration reform.
On both sides of the aisle, politicians and commentators were quick to assert that the fact that the two suspected bombers were immigrants was reason enough to call for changes to everything, from border security and stricter background checks to amnesty.
It's unfortunate that people are trying to spin the tragic events in Boston to advance their legislative agendas, but it's also falling into an emotional trap-the Boston attackers should not be the focus of this immigration debate.
Thus far, the emotional and political arguments haven't made much sense. A couple of key facts:
The Tsarnaev brothers didn't sneak across the border to get into the United States, nor were they here illegally.
None of the "new security" measures in the Senate immigration bill, such as biometric exit, would have helped us to better track the terrorists. Indeed, the Department of Homeland Security admits it knew when the older Tsarnaev brother left the country to travel to Chechnya and Dagestan. In other words, the existing system worked.
At the same time, we don't know whether the Tsarnaevs were radicalized before immigrating here or while already living in the United States. Any attempt to argue that because of Boston, we need to strengthen our immigration measures so that we have a better idea of "who is here" is simply getting ahead of the facts.
As always, the best way to prevent attacks is to make sure our intelligence and law enforcement have the tools they need to stop terrorists long before the public is in danger. Tragically, this was not the case in Boston-an unfortunate reminder of the fact that no matter how good our counterterrorism efforts are, we will never be able to stop every threat. Nevertheless, our intelligence and law enforcement know what they are doing. Indeed, their actions have been vital in thwarting most of the 54 Islamist terrorist plots foiled since 9/11.
Good immigration and border security policies play an important, but supporting role. Generally, the rule is if you have good policies that facilitate legal immigration and travel while providing for public safety and security-they will serve well to help thwart terrorist travel.
Ultimately, getting trapped in a debate about whether comprehensive immigration reform will help or hurt us in thwarting terrorism will get us nowhere. After more than a decade of living in the post-9/11 world, we don't need a terrorist attack to tell us the right approach to countering terrorism. Nor do we need one to remind us of the flaws of comprehensive immigration reform. Both of these speak for themselves.
The Senate soon will take up ill-advised legislation (S. 743) misnamed the "Marketplace Fairness Act" to authorize every state to force out-of-state businesses to serve as the state's sales tax collector, overruling the U.S. Supreme Court's 1992 decision in Quill Corporation v. North Dakota.
The President has a right to nominate cabinet secretaries who share his political views. He does not have a right to appoint unqualified cabinet secretaries. The Senate should critically examine Thomas Perez's nomination for Secretary of Labor. He has a record of selective law enforcement, questionable judgment, and bad management. Americans need much better in the Department of Labor.
Reuters's environment correspondent Alister Doyle provides even more fodder for why a carbon (energy) tax or the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) regulation of greenhouse gas emissions is economically and environmentally foolish.

VIDEO: Senator Mike Lee on Gun Control and Immigration Battles in Congress
Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) spoke at Heritage Monday about winning public support for a conservative agenda for government. He joined Heritage's Jackie Anderson afterward to talk about legislative battles in Congress: gun control, immigration reform, and the Internet sales tax.
We need to start on the areas where there's the most broad-based, bipartisan consensus. There is broad-based, bipartisan consensus for border-security enhancement, the modernization of our visa structure, for the completion of a long-overdue exit and entry system... I think we could get bills passed on all three of those items and do it relatively quickly.
When you tie those issues up and hold them hostage, saying we're not going to pass any of those unless we simultaneously pass something that aims to legalize 11 million people... you run into some problems.

Remembering Howard Phillips By L. Brent Bozell III It is a sad commentary on conservatives' sense of their own history that many may not know the name Howard Phillips. He, along with Viguerie, Terry Dolan, Paul Weyrich and Ed Feulner, was the founder of the New Right juggernaut that delivered Reagan. As a political force, they created the conservative movement that exists today. Most conservatives wouldn't be here but for men like Howard Phillips. They are his legacy.
America's Insane Asylum for Jihadists, Hustlers and Frauds By Michelle Malkin Immigration lawyers have been working the system on behalf of asylum con artists for decades. And in case you'd forgotten, the brothers Tsarnaev were not the first murder-minded jihadists to benefit from ineffective policing of our asylum and refugee policies.
W. By Rich Galen Historians who, like everything else in our lives, feel they have to rush to judgment, are still, well, iffy about the Presidency of George W. Bush. I think, decades down the road, he will be seen as a force for good in the world.
Contrary to what we're incessantly told by the Main Stream Media, it's not in the least surprising that Senators Jeff Flake (R.-AZ),Lindsey Graham (R.-SC), John McCain, (R.-AZ), and Marco Rubio(R.-FL), became the Republican half of the amnesty-promoting "Gang of 8." Rubio was only elected in 2010, but his record on immigration has long been terrible, as I noted when expressing relief that he Mitt Romney did not pick him for VP. The others have been among the most vocal supporters of amnesty in Congress. AsTom Tancredo recently pointed out in Townhall.com:
Indeed, of the 45 Republicans Senators, Flake, Graham and McCain, are the only ones with F Grades. It is fair to say, that these three men have the worst voting on amnesty in the entire US Senate. (Two other new Republicans, Rob Portman and Dan Coats, have F- grades, but that's based on their votes for small amnesties in the House of Representatives more than a decade ago-both were out of federal politics during the Bush Amnesty Wars.)
What is particularly troubling about this: all of these RINOs faced primary challengers who ran as immigration patriots. Each time, they were able to pretend that they supported border security-and won.
NC House Budget Committee Endorses Voter ID Bill - A North Carolina voter identification bill is headed to the House floor after the last of three committees signed off on the legislation Tuesday.
The bill is scheduled to be heard this week by the House Constitution, Campaigns and Elections Committee. This bill would require a county board of registrars to notify all persons who are purged from the voter registration list at the time their name is removed from the list.
The bill was read a third time and amended. This bill would remove the requirement to publish certain lists of registered voters, inspectors, and clerks and election notices in a newspaper of general circulation in the county. Instead, the information must be posted on a county website and made available upon request at no cost to the person making this request. The bill would require the county to place a display advertisement in a newspaper of general circulation in the county identifying where voter list and election notice information is available.
The bill is now Act 1389. This bill would permit county clerks to establish one or more vote centers in the county on Election Day. Any registered voter may vote at a vote center after showing ID, as required by law. If the voter's name or address is not the same as that in the county voter roll, the voter may complete an updated voter registration form. The voter will also be asked to sign a voting roster that identifies his or her name, address, and date of birth. If a voter cannot be verified at the vote center, he or she will be directed to the voter's precinct to cast a ballot.
The bill was referred to the Committee on Elections and Constitutional Amendments. This bill would provide that a voter registration application would not be deemed incomplete on the basis that a voter applicant failed to state his or her place of birth.
Call your Senators' offices and demand that they hold a town hall to discuss the bill
Dear NumbersUSA Activist,
This Friday, the US Senate will adjourn business in Washington and go home for a "State Work Period" of 9 days. This is the last scheduled return home for Senators before a massive amnesty bill is scheduled for markup in the Judiciary Committee.
The 844-page bill is a very complex piece of legislation that will overhaul almost every part of our immigration system. If passed, each person in this country would feel its effects including the fiscal costs of an a mnesty for most of the 11 million illegal aliens and massive increases in the number of people that will compete with unemployed Americans for jobs on every skill level.
The Senate Judiciary Committee is in charge of the bill's process. Committee Chairman, Patrick Leahy of Vermont, wants this bill to get to the Senate floor ASAP. His committee has held only two hearings this week on the massive bill, cramming in witnesses and only giving a small amount of time to the bill's opponents to voice their concerns. Leahy has scheduled the Committee markup for May 9.
Despite Leahy's impatience, Senator Jeff Sessions has put the mark up process on hold fo r one week- all the time that is allowed. Since the Senate won't be in session next week, we can expect the mark up to happen Thursday, May 9th.
That means the Senate is likely to vote on the bill before summer!
Have you seen Washington work this quickly EVER? What is in the bill that these Senators want to hide? Why are they so determined to get this bill on the floor without a public discussion?
DEMAND YOUR SENATOR HOLD A TOWN HALL TO DISCUSS THE BIGGEST OVERHAUL OUR IMMIGRATION SYSTEM HAS SEEN IN NEARLY THREE DECADES.
Call you Senators TODAY, TOMORROW, AND FRIDAY until they schedule a town hall or similar public event! Take 5 minutes out of your day so America can get what it deserves - a transparent and open discussion on immigration reform.
Although you may not personally be interested in attending a town hall, there are thousands of ot her NumbersUSA members in your state who are interested. We need to work together to pressure Senators to hold events and to find out when these town halls are so we can get our voices heard! This is CRUCIAL!!
Do not let your Senators vote for this bill without having to explain it or get your opinion.
The best way to go about requesting a town hall meeting:
1. Call the Capitol Switchboard here: (202) 224-3121 and ask for your Senators.
2. Once on the line with a staffer ask them this: "Does the Senator plan to hold a town hall or similar public forum to hear the opinions of the people in our state on S 744 (the massive immigration reform bill)?"
3. If the answer is yes: Write down the details and send them to me as soon as you can.
4. If the answer is no: "Thank you, I want to officially request for the Senator to have a town hall to discuss the biggest immigration overhaul in almost three decades. I will call back tomorrow to see if he/she puts a town hall on his/her schedule. I will continue to call everyday until the Senator schedules a town hall or similar public event."
Call your Senators here: (202) 224-3121.
Pointers: Don't let the staffers give you the run-around. They are probably going to tell you this: "Whenever the Senator schedules a town hall, it will be up on his/her website." They may also say that "the Senator will send out a press release or an email about the town hall once it is schedule." Senators RARELY do either of these, or they do it hours before the scheduled event. I recommend you nicely thank them for the information but you will still continue to call back everyday until town hall information is given to you.
Please remember to call your Senators at (202) 224-3121 today, tomorrow, and Friday. Continuing to call everyday is the only way we will pressure them.
