Last week was horrific with the Boston Marathon bombing claiming the lives of 3 and injuring several score. Two Chechen brothers, one a U.S. citizen, one not, were caught on video placing the bombs. The older brother (the non-citizen) was shot and killed by police (or by his younger brother driving over him, not sure which). His younger brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, got away and was later caught hiding in a boat.
He was not Mirandized when he was caught because he was deemed a national threat. I'm sorry, but no matter what the scumbag did, he has rights as an American. It would seem that our politiciansdon't give a flying crap about the Constitution any more. Just a short while ago, it was determined that he will not be tried as an enemy combatant, but as an American citizen.
Time to lawyer up and the way things are going, I bet he stands a good chance of getting off or getting a greatly reduced sentence. He is being charged with using a weapon of mass destruction and could face the death penalty, but more likely will be pampered and honored in a cushy retreat by other Islamic radicals.
Another item of interest - ask yourself why Putin was consulted by our President before and after the arrests. Just saying.
Also ask yourself about the 12 person sleeper cell that is being hunted in connection to this bombing.
There was someone arrested before the Chechen brothers were caught, a Saudi national by the name of Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi.
Rumor has it that he has strong connections to a powerful Saudi family and that he is a known terrorist. He also has many known terrorists in his family. But the Obama Administration has been doing all it can to muffle anything having to do with this "person of interest." This kid just happened to be there at the finish line rooting for a runner and probably helping with the bombing. He is also on a terrorist watch list.
On Monday in Tel Aviv U.S. defense secretary Chuck Hagel and Israeli defense minister Moshe Yaalon announced the finalizing of a major U.S.-Israeli arms deal. At a reported cost of $10 billion, Israel gets Bell Boeing V-22 transport helicopters (known as Ospreys), Boeing KC-135 in-flight refueling planes, advanced radar systems for fighter planes, and anti-radiation missiles.
It's part of a larger deal, first reported in the New York Times last week, that also involves Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. A U.S. official calls it "one of the most complex and carefully orchestrated arms sale packages in American history."
And its focus is Iran. As far as Israel is concerned, all the hardware it's getting enhances its ability to carry out long-range operations.
Both Planned Parenthood and NARAL claim to have"condemned" Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell's actions as "reprehensible." The question, however, is what it is they actually believe he has done that deserves condemnation. Many of the same "horrors" found in Gosnell's clinic have been discovered in Planned Parenthood clinics as well.
Kristi Burton Brown of Live Action News, a site devoted to undercover investigations to expose the abortion industry, believes this question needs to be asked in light of the fact that nearby Delaware Planned Parenthood has been discovered with "similar filthy and unsafe conditions."
Brown reports that, on April 10th, an ABC News affiliate in Delaware announced a one-day closing and a temporary end to surgical abortions at Planned Parenthood of Delaware. Though the clinic claimed to require closure for a "routine cleaning," ABC indicated that the state had "confirmed a new investigation."
BREAKING: Judge drops nine charges (three murder charges) against Kermit Gosnell
by Ben Johnson Tue Apr 23
PHILADELPHIA, April 23, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A federal judge has dropped nine charges - including three murder charges and one count of infanticide - against Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell, as his trial resumed this morning.
Local media report the judge has determined Gosnell will not face three counts of murder, one count of infanticide, and five counts of abuse of a corpse. The latter charges related to Gosnell's keeping the severed feet of aborted babies in jars in his clinic. Gosnell still faces the remaining four charges of first degree murder in the deaths of newborn babies, and an additional charge of third degree murder over the death of one of his abortion clients. Gosnell's defense attorney, Jack McMahon, had asked that all seven charges of first degree murder be dismissed due to lack of evidence, a standard tactic. McMahon claimed that the prosecution could not prove that the babies were born alive.
The judge did not indicate why he dropped the nine charges, according to reporters in the courtroom.

Brigitte Gabriel to Speak
in Baltimore, MD!
Brigitte Gabriel
Leading Global Islamic Terrorism Expert
CLICK HERE to view Brigitte's special video invitation!
It is my privilege to invite you to a special event featuring Brigitte Gabriel, Founder and President of ACT! for America. This event is free and open to the public and will be held at the following:
Central Christian
7411 Rossville Blvd. Baltimore, MD 21237
Monday, May 6th at 7 pm
Ms. Gabriel will speak on the rise of Islamic radicalism in your community and in our nation. Her story of survival as a persecuted Christian living in a bomb shelter for 7 years will have you captivated and inspired! She will share how the events of 9/11 compelled her to start ACT! for America, the largest national security grassroots organization in the U.S.
The recent assaults at our embassies have been a sobering wake-up call to America. The lesson is that we should be displaying strength to our enemies, not appeasement which only demonstrates our weakness. Without question, the threats of radical Islam to America have increased.
These are just some of the threats Brigitte will discuss:
Suppression of criticism of Islam
Homegrown jihad
Terrorists infiltrating our borders
The Muslim Brotherhood and creeping sharia law in America
Misrepresentation of history in our public education
You will hear first-hand how ACT! for America is successfully rolling back the tide of radical Islam...how we are winning legislative victories...how we don't have to live in fear or resign ourselves to the inevitability of the threats arrayed against us...and how we will prevail.
I encourage you to forward this email to everyone you know. For those who are not familiar with ACT! for America, please share this short video with them.
I know those of you who have heard Brigitte will agree, not only do you not want to miss this, but you will want to bring your relatives and friends with you. It will be an event people will be talking about for a long time to come!
Invite your friends and come join us in Baltimore, MD! We look forward to seeing you on May 6th

June 19 - 21 we will convene at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC for our fourth annual National Conference & Legislative Briefing.
And here's some really great news: This year's registration fee is only $229! Register by April 15th and you'll receive our "Early Bird" rate of just $189!
We also offer again this year special benefits for Patriot Eagle and Patriot sponsors.
We have some exciting new wrinkles planned for this year's event, and our list of confirmed speakers already includes:
Steven Emerson - Journalist, author, and the Executive Editor of the Investigative Project on Terrorism. A. M. Rosenthal, late-managing editor of The New York Times, described Emerson as "one of the nation's best national security correspondents."
John Guandolo - Former FBI agent and one of America's leading authorities on the Muslim Brotherhood and its inner workings in America. Guandolo spoke at our conference in 2011 and received rave reviews from conference attendees!
Ezra Levant - Canadian lawyer, author, newspaper columnist with Sun Media, and former publisher of the Western Standard. Hauled before a Canadian "human rights commission" because he published the Danish cartoons that satirized Muhammad, Levant's personal account of a politically correct government inquisition is something you won't want to miss!
The National Conference & Legislative Briefing will begin on Wed. evening, June 19th, and conclude on Friday, June 21st at noon, with additional optional training sessions Friday afternoon.
It will again feature our very popular Capitol Hill Awards Luncheon and our signature gala banquet-and of course, our Legislative Briefing, where Members of Congress will brief you on various issues and answer your questions.
So make your plans now to join us in our nation's capital for what promises to be our best National Conference & Legislative Briefing ever!
More details to come!
As Israelis celebrate their 65th Independence Day this year, we should all take time out to reflect on the miracle of Israel's independence. We must also ask ourselves the question, "What can I do to ensure that this miracle of Israel survives and thrives?"
We announced earlier this week that we'll be headed to New Orleans the first weekend in August for this year's RedState Gathering. As a member of our RedState family, we'd like to extend exclusive Early Bird registration and pricing to you (just use the promo code EARLYBIRD on the registration page).
The 2013 RedState Gathering will be held August 2-3 at the Westin Canal Place in New Orleans, LA. We'll have two full days of speakers and activities and you can expect a good mix of elected officials and potential candidates for the 2014 cycle (we'll keep you informed as additions are made).
The Gathering has always been a unique event, in that all speakers, even the most in-demand and influential, pay their own way and make their own travel arrangements. This helps keep our costs low, a savings we are happy to pass along to our conference attendees. Additionally, we strive to get you up close to the speakers, ask them to take your questions, and we take care of nearly all your meals during the conference. Bottom line: fewer frills, more thrills and access.
We are thrilled to once again be joined by Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, who will be hosting a reception for all attendees and appear at the Gathering podium as a keynote speaker. A huge hit in 2012, we're looking forward to Gov. Jindal playing an even larger role this year as he welcomes us to his home state.
Now, more than ever, true conservative activists must come together to exchange ideas and strategize for the future. That's what this year's Gathering is all about. We hope you'll join us.
P.S. Don't delay! You'll receive 20% off if you register today - just use the promo code EARLYBIRD. Click here.
From a trusted friend:
As some of you may know, I am associated with Coventry Christian Schools as a parent of a graduate (2010) and as member of the Board of Trustees. Last October we spent a wonderful evening honoring Mark Niehls at our revitalized Founder's Dinner and celebrated our shared heritage in the remarkable community that is Coventry Christian Schools. Our vision for future Founder's Dinners is to inspire and inform not only our alumni and current CCS families but to inspire and inform the Tri-County Area and even our region by hosting speakers and artists who can uniquely assist us in celebrating the heritage, core values, and mission of CCS while also lifting our vision for an even greater future built upon the foundation of our past. The caliber of our speakers and guest artists should provide us with wonderful opportunities to share our CCS story with new partners in Christian education. Proceeds from the dinner will be applied to our annual Coventry Kids Fund for CCS scholarships.
This year we are proud to announce that our distinguished guest and speaker is Dr. Benjamin Carson, and our dinner's theme is "Faith of Our Fathers: The Role of Faith in American Schools." Please join us as we welcome Dr. Carson to the Tri-County Area and celebrate the great things God is doing at CCS!
Dr. Carson is a highly regarded neurosurgeon and motivational speaker who has addressed various audiences across the country. He is one of the most honored and recognized physicians in the world and holds more than 60 honorary doctorate degrees along with hundreds of awards and citations. He is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States. He is the author of five books and is the founder of the Carson Scholars Fund. The 2009 award-winning movie entitled Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. as Carson, premiered on TNT and is based on his memoir. Dr. Carson is an authentic disciple of Christ, has been married to his wife Candy for more than 37 years, and is the father of three sons.
The 2013 Founder's Dinner, which will once again be a part of our Homecoming festivities, will be held at the historic Sunnybrook Ballroom in Pottstown on Sunday, October 13th, 2013. Doors will open at 4:30pm, followed by dinner at 5:15. Dress will be business/professional. Tickets will be priced at $100 until May 15th, then will be $125, so reserve your tickets for the reduced price.
Due to Dr. Carson's international reputation and recent prominence in the media, including his recent speech at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast, we fully anticipate that this event will sell out quickly once advertised to the public. Tickets go on sale to the public April 15. If you are interested in attending, tickets can be purchased online. I will send the link out to those who wish to go on April 15
th
. While online reservations are preferred because they facilitate efficient event planning, you may also complete a paper order form, which I can forward to you as well.
All of us at Coventry Christian Schools, look forward to sharing this very special evening with you and acquainting you with the school and its mission!
Blessings,
Christine Gordon

Heritage Foundation weighs in on Common Core
By Rachel Sheffield April 11, 2013: Policy Analyst, The Heritage Foundation (courtesy of Citizens' Alliance of Pennsylvania)This coming school year, Pennsylvania public schools will begin implementing the Common Core education standards. Like many other states, Common Core standards are quickly making their way into the classroom. While proponents of the standards continue to champion their predicted benefits, there is significant cause for concern.First, the standards represent a massive federal overreach. The Obama Administration jumped on board from the get go, promoting national education standards, via policy and federal taxpayer dollars, as part of their education agenda. Billions of federal dollars have gone towards and are continuing to fund, the promotion and implementation of these standards nationwide. The federal government's involvement with the standards should be alarming. Pushing state and local leaders away from classroom curriculum is not only a breach in federalism but gives parents, teachers, and communities less say over what children learn in school. Education experts have also raised alarm over the quality of the standards. Sandra Stotsky, Professor of Education Reform at the University of Arkansas, has particularly expressed concern over the English Language Arts. Common Core's ELA standards reduce emphasis on literature by promoting the study of "informational texts." Stotsky says
, "A diminished emphasis on literature in the secondary grades makes it unlikely that American students will study a meaningful range of culturally and historically significant literary works before graduation. It also prevents students from acquiring a rich understanding and use of the English language. Perhaps of greatest concern, it may lead to a decreased capacity for analytical thinking."
Common Core goes SOCIAL MEDIA!!! Please share with everyone you know and help us make this a huge success. MARK YOUR CALENDAR!!! Not a TWITTER person.....grab a kid and have some fun.
Parent-Led Reform (@ParentLedReform) will host a Twitter Rally on April 16, 2013 which will start will go from 12:00p-2:00p (EST). We will discuss how the Common Core State Standards effect your family, community and schools? We invite you to participate.
There will be an expert panel and several organizations that will discuss#StopCommonCore. So far I know the panel will consist of:
I'll update with a live link for the Twitter Rally (or you can just follow the hashtag #StopCommonCore) and as the expert panel is finalized.
Update: Be sure to RSVP with the Facebook event invite, this will help keep you up to date with pertinent info.
The whole story on Common Core
Read the sourced and footnoted response to the National Review Online and get all the facts you need to know about Common Core HERE. Compiled by American Principles project and Glenn's research team.
Common Core is the new set of federal education standards being pushed by the Obama administration and several leftist organizations but it's even seeing some support from some conservatives.
defending Common Core, and Glenn gave the definitive response on radio today."Common Core is something that we didn't really get for quite some time and again it's something we've learned from the 9/12 project and concerned parents all around the country that have been bringing this to our attention. When we started in on this work, we thought it was pretty bad. The more we do, the worse it becomes," Glenn said.
Below are some of the points made by the National Review Online in defense of Common Core, followed by Glenn's response.
Today on radio, Glenn gave the definitive response. See that and get all the sources to back it up HERE.
Students in some Albany High School English classes were asked to participate in the unthinkable this week as part of a persuasive writing assignment. The objective? Prove why Jews are evil and convince the teacher of their loyalty to the Third Reich in five paragraphs or less. See the actual lessonHERE.
A concerned parent tipped off TheBlaze to the disturbing fact that NY public schools are teaching the U.N.'s Socialist-leaning Universal Human Rights. We also discovered that the schools are delivering this indoctrination using videos made by the Church of Scientology. Learn what our investigation revealedHERE.
TheBlaze has been at the forefront in uncovering the disturbing details of the nationalized curriculum standard known as Common Core. One of the most troubling aspects of this federal program is that government bureaucrats are currently mining sensitive and highly personal information on children through Common Core's tracking system. Watch the powerful segments from The Glenn Beck Program HERE.
What information is being collected on your kids through Common Core?
TheBlaze TV subscribers can watch past episodes covering Common Core and CSCOPE. The March 14th episode focused on Common Core and the March 7th episode focused on CSCOPE. Not a subscriber? Sign up HERE.
Glenn has spent a lot of time over the past few weeks exposing some of the education initiatives in states across the country that are indoctrinating kids into the radical progressive agenda. Today, Glenn discussed an issue tied into Common Core that many people aren't aware of: data mining.
"We cover many important stories and topics on this program, but I don't think any could be more important than what we are covering tonight: the progressive takeover of America's schools,"
OK....when they look at you like you have a tin foil hat on your head......take some of this information with you. It is 126 pages. I have not read through the entire document (YET) but what I have read is enough to blow off the top of your head. I have highlighted some stuff. KIPP (Charter Schools) has a CHARACTER REPORT CARD on Page 39. So for now start on page 39 and work your way through to page 45. Remember FERPA laws were changed last year and I am sure not one parent is aware that permission to share information about our children no longer requires parental consent. Obama just slipped all these new changes in and I don't believe any parents were ever asked their opinions about these changes. And where was our Republican Congress when this happened???
AGENDA 21 is: The complete control and inventory of every human activity. After your friends read some of this information ask them if they still believe A21 is not real. Chapter 36 of A21 document is devoted to education.
Our government forgets there are still people alive that can think and see through their garbage.
Print this document and get a highlighter...........then start visiting your neighbors, school boards, elected officials and start screaming. GET COMMON CORE AND THE GOVERNMENT out of our class rooms. I think it is time to start a MASS movement for Home Schooling. I know Home Schooling will not be spared. This should be a movement to bring education back to the local level and DESTROY the Federal Department of Education. If our kids are not in school it will create an uprising at all levels. We should not settle for shutting down Common Core because they will masquerade it....they are already doing this in VA. VA supposedly never signed on to Common Core but GUESS WHAT........they ARE implementing Common Core and disguising it from the citizens in VA....of course they aren't doing a good job of hiding it and people in VA are catching on. Our schools have been in the process of a government take over (in earnest) for more than 20 years. If we don't shut down the Department of Education it will never stop. We have to cause a citizen uprising!!
Here is the U.S. Department of Education - Office of Educational Technology document:
"The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government - lest it come to dominate our lives and interests"- Patrick Henry
To fix "THE SYSYEM" We must become "THE SYSTEM" - k. bracken "The change we seek has always required great struggle and great sacrifice." - Barack Hussein Obama "The man who speaks to you of sacrifice, speaks of slaves and masters. And intends to be the master." - Ayn Rand
Glenn: Help us get in millions of home
Why should you support the "Get TheBlaze" movement to get TheBlaze in millions of homes across the country? For starters, how about a network that will cancel out the damage Al-Jazeera will be doing in America as it replaces Current in your lineup? Check out Glenn's "why" in this exclusive letter HERE.
Ready to take action? Click here to contact your TV provider and urge them to add TheBlaze.
ATTENTION: Are you a Verizon FiOS Subscriber? They've created a new form for you to fill out to request TheBlaze! You can complete the form HERE. And don't forget to make your request public by posting on their Facebook page. Thank you for supporting us!

"This fantastic documentary is both entertaining and educational" - Dove Foundation
Rev. C.L. Bryant's documentary Runaway Slave has been a runaway hit! The film recently won the Crystal Dove Seal, and has been making waves across the country.
Runaway Slave is the story of C.L. Bryant, a former NAACP Chapter president who realized that the Democrat Party and progressive movement was hurting Africa-Americans and keeping them stuck on the government dole. Rev. Bryant discusses the impact of progressivism on the African-American community and how freedom works with a host of leaders including Dr. Alveda King, Herman Cain, Allen West, Dr. Thomas Sowell, and many others.
The Crystal Dove Seal award is given to films that are family-friendly and provide wholesome, educational content. Runaway Slave is an important movie for all audiences, and it has a message that should be heard if we want to achieve a society where character is king.
Congratulations to Rev. C.L. Bryant and the Runaway Slave team on their achievement!
The critically-acclaimed film, The Third Jihad - Radical Islam's Vision for America educates about the nature of radical Islamic ideology. Law enforcement agencies across the country have used the film in their counter-terror training.

Dear Members and Friends,
The Pennsylvania House will be voting, sometime today, on a bill that would allow the state to opt out of the Abortion funding provisions of ObamaCare.
Regardless of your views on abortion, you must realize that any successful legal and/or political challenge to obamaCare could ultimately lead to the law's demise.
Yes, we can incrementally defeat ObamaCare.
Our friends at the PA Pro-life Federation have asked those of you who reside in the Keystone State to call your State Representative immediately and urge a "yes" vote on HB 818!
To find the name and number of your State Rep, visit:
and type in your address, city, and zip code. A window will then pop up with your State Reps
name and contact information.
Your calls are critical! Unless HB 818 is passed and signed into law by Governor Corbett, your tax dollars will be paying for abortions starting next year! Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider, is lobbying full force against HB 818. We must counter their efforts!

RedState Morning Briefing
For April 24, 2013
A few weeks ago I noted that there are many groups out there these days who want you to sign petitions or collect money from you, but who do no real advocacy and who do no real on the ground grassroots work.
Then there are groups like Campaign for Liberty. That you've probably heard of them is testament to their work. They are active. They are engaged. And they're not out trying to take your name and money to line pockets, but rather to actually fight for liberty. In an age when so many charlatans are on the political scene, this is a group that actually breaks a sweat working hard to do exactly what they say they'll do.

1.RedState Will Key Vote Against the Helping Sick Americans Now Act, H.R. 1549
Mind you, we don't have a scorecard, but we may have to use this vote to start one. The Republicans have decided to intercept the Democrats' political football and make a touchdown for the Democrats.
The Helping Sick Americans Now Act is a great sounding law that lets the GOP contrast themselves with Barack Obama on health care. But let me explain in the simplest terms what it actually does. It fixes part of Obamacare that the Democrats designed. It makes Obamacare less bad, more palatable, and more likely to stick around instead of collapsing under its own weight as Paul Ryan and others have kept saying it would.
Basically, the GOP, in a noble effort to appear likable instead of effective, wants to move money from one part of Obamacare that is wasteful and does no good to anyone and instead prop up the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan, or as the wonky conservatives who have decided to support this to look more humane and less wonky call it, PCIP.
Frankly, the GOP should not be in the position of wanting to save the pre-existing conditions mandate in Obamacare.
In fact, the GOP should not want to fix Obamacare at all.
Only a bunch of idiots in Washington, DC in the Republican Party could look at the rising animosity of the American people toward Obamacare and all its costs and burdens and say, "By God let's fix it!" . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2.HAHAHAHA. Meet Americans for a Conservative Direction, the Latest GOP Scam in Washington
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.
breathe.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.
No wait . . . hang on . . . HA HA HA HA HA HA HA. I'm sorry.
I'd like to introduce you to "Americans for a Conservative Direction." It's got Haley Barbour as the head of it, whose nephew was on the RNC audit committee. He's joined by Sally Bradshaw of the same RNC Audit Committee. They've also got Joel Kaplan of Facebook, Dan Senor whose wife is Campbell Brown formerly of CNN, and Rob Jesmer.
Jesmer, you will recall, headed the National Republican Senatorial Committee and backed Arlen Specter, Charlie Crist, Trey Greyson, Bob Bennett, and every other terrible squishy moderate to liberal candidate the GOP could field.
And now they want to call themselves "Americans for a Conservative Direction."

When a baby is born, a mother always is nearby. The question is whether a father will be involved in the life of that child and, if so, for how long.
Marriage increases the odds that a man will be committed to both the children that he helps create and to the woman with whom he does so.
The recent oral arguments at the Supreme Court highlighted this and other key questions about redefining marriage as we've always understood it in America. That is, marriage is the union of a man and woman as husband and wife to provide any children of that union with a father and a mother.
A leading argument from liberals is that marriage so understood unjustly excludes same-sex relationships. However, Chief Justice John G. Roberts, during arguments on California's Proposition 8, resisted any characterization that marriage was about "excluding a particular group."
By now everyone knows all about the GOP's report on the path forward. In a nutshell, we need to embrace serious structural reform, gay marriage, and open borders. The kids these days hate us, the old folks don't trust us, and we need to do some poll tested, kid approved things to get everyone to like us again.
Next month, the RNC will make a home porno with its mascot and "accidentally" leak it online, then do the late night shows in an act of contrition to show how cool they are. All the really cool celebrities do that these days. It'll be the first step forward. Damn the policy, accidentally leaked shot on the iPhone home porn is all the rage these days.
In fact, however ridiculous that may sound, it'd be a lot easier to do than what the GOP must do to turn the corner.
The Commerce Clause of the Constitution has been used as a garbage can of left-wing jurisprudence to grant the federal government infinite power over the the citizenry for years.Ironically, the original intent of the Commerce Clause was to serve as a check on state power grabs across state lines, not as a new power for the Feds to wield over the people. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

In light of the events last week in Boston, Watertown, and Cambridge in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon Terrorist attack, I wonder if the president and Prof. Gates still think the police are stupid.
If America had refused to be terrorized, the Tsarnaevs would not have been admitted to this country or would have been shown the door once they started adding terrorist videos to their playlist.

Terrorism, like urban crime, is one of those things that you're not supposed to think about too much. It's fine to talk about your emotions after a bombing or a mugging. You can even share stories and eventually learn to laugh about it. What you cannot do is talk about where it comes from except in the vaguest terms of social conditions. Like pollution from industry or corruption from government, it's one of those toxic spinoffs of our modern society. It's just there and we don't much talk about it.
Islamic terrorism is considered a social problem in Europe. Ask an expert and they'll talk your ear off about unemployment, racism, overcrowded housing and the same long list of reasons used to explain urban crime. The United States is slowly coming around to that same point of view.
Forget the great debate between whether people kill people or guns kill people. The conclusion reached by most governments before your grandfather was born is that social conditions kill people.
The Tsarneav brothers are being talked about in the same way that most serial killers are. "They were so nice. What made them do it?" It's the empty repetition of a question to which no one really wants to hear the answer. "What could have made them do it?" isn't a genuine question, it's a ceremonial washing of the hands. A ritualistic statement that we couldn't have known anything was wrong. How could we? They were so nice.
Tamerlan Tsarneav slapped around one girlfriend, dragged another into a barefoot, pregnant and veiled arrangement, and went around telling everyone they were infidels. Sure he might have settled down at some point, picked up his membership card in the requisite front groups for the Muslim Brotherhood and limited his terrorist activities to donating to Islamic charities that just happen to do business in the middle of war zones. He could have stuck to beating his wife in the privacy of his home and told his neighbors that America would one day be destroyed knowing they would only nod and walk away humming, "But he's so nice".
The United States is full of moderate Muslims just like that. They are the people politicians point to as proof that not all Muslims are terrorists, just the ones who actually blow up things.

Best Friend Killed Along With Brandeis Grad and Devout Jew
Police in a Boston suburb are investigating whether slain Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev was involved in the unsolved murders of his close friend and two other men, one of whom was a Brandeis University graduate and the other a devout Jew.
Tsarnaev, who was killed in a shootout with police, was a close friend of Brendan Mess, who was found murdered in an apartment in Waltham, Mass. onSept. 12, 2011, along with Erik Weissman and Raphael Teken.
Weissman was a devoted member of his synagogue, according to WCVB in Boston and Teken had majored in history at predominantly Jewish Brandeis.

NYPD's Ray Kelly: Boston Bombers Represent New Jihadist Threat
Monday, 22 Apr 2013
By Bill Hoffmann
New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly believes the Boston Marathon bombings were a type of jihad attack that is on the rise in the United States.
"I see this as an ongoing pattern. We've seen these radicalized young men do, or try to do, similar things,'' Kelly told Newsmax TV's "The Steve Malzberg Show.''
"We've had 16 plots here against the city, many of them involving young, disaffected men who are committed to killing Americans.''
Kelly said those threats have remained "relatively constant'' and "we don't see it waning.''
"What we do see is a shift from the sort of organized, top-down direction than we saw early on after 9/11 from al-Qaida to a more free-form, do-what-you-can approach,'' Kelly said.
"[That's] where individuals will get, in essence, radicalized on the Internet. They usually have someone who is a sanctioner that leads them along or mentors them.''
He pointed to a 2007 study conducted by two of the NYPD's top intelligence analysts that looked at the radicalization process of future terrorists.
"[They are] what they call unremarkable young men who go into four phases of jihadization,'' Kelly said.

"I was told that they're going to release this man. He of course claims he was framed so we'll see," said Reid.
GOP Benghazi report blames Clinton By Julian Pecquet
Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Tuesday unveiled a report on last's year attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that blames then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for lapses in security.
The 46-page report by the five committees of jurisdiction concludes that reductions in security levels prior to the attack that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were approved at the highest levels of the State Department, including by Clinton herself.
The report also concludes that talking points from the intelligence community were altered to protect the State Department from criticism of inadequate security levels.
In November 2009, in the wake of the Ft. Hood jihadist attack, ACT! for America Executive Director Guy Rodgers wrote a column in which he coined the term "Jihad Denial Syndrome."
Here we are, over three years later, in the wake of the Boston Marathon jihadist attack, and, as Andrew McCarthy notes below in National Review Online, "...willful blindness remains the order of the day."
"He seemed so nice." Statements like this have been all over the media. Many people just can't or don't want to grasp why the Tsarnaev brothers did what they did. It's troubling that Jihad Denial Syndrome is so common among those in government, the media, and academia.
John Guandolo, former FBI agent and expert on terrorism and the Muslim Brotherhood, understands how the jihadist support network in the United States and abroad is making terrorist attacks like the one in Boston possible.
John will do a presentation at our 2013 National Conference and Legislative Briefing that answers the questions: How did two young immigrants, who seemed "westernized" to many who knew them, become jihadists? And what does this mean for our future national security?
Jihad Will Not Be Wished AwayBut willful blindness remains the order of the day.By Andrew C. McCarthy
'Outlook: Islam." So reads the personal webpage of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who ravaged Boston this week, along with his now-deceased brother and fellow jihadist, Tamerlan - namesake of a 14th-century Muslim warrior whose campaigns through Asia Minor are legendary for their brutalization of non-Muslims.
Brutalizing our own non-Muslim country has been the principal objective of jihadists for the last 20 years. This week marks a new and chilling chapter: the introduction on our shores of the tactics the self-styled mujahideen have used to great, gory effect for the past decade in Afghanistan and Iraq.
At a point in the race timed to achieve maximum carnage, the Tsarnaev brothers bombed the Boston Marathon with improvised explosive devices. IEDs are small but potent homemade bombs - crude explosives and unforgiving shrapnel encased in easily portable pressure cookers. The bombs are simple to make. They won't kill thousands or even hundreds of people like hijacked planes or heavy chemical explosives will. But that's not the objective. The goal is to instill terror into the flow of everyday life. IEDs are made for "soft" targets. They are easily camouflaged amid the traffic, the everyday debris, and the eight-year-old boys frolicking as they wait for Dad to cross the finish line.
Willful blindness remains the order of the day, as it has since the World Trade Center was bombed in 1993. It is freely conceded that, when the identities and thus the motivation of the Marathon terrorists were not known, it would have been irresponsible to dismiss any radical ideology as, potentially, the instigator. But in our politically correct, up-is-down culture, to suggest "Outlook: Islam" was unthinkable. So the most likely scenario - namely, that jihadists who have been at war with us for two decades had, yet again, attacked innocent civilians - became the least likely scenario in the minds of media pundits. Instead, they brazenly prayed (to Gaia, I'm sure) for white conservative culprits with Tea Party hats and Rush 24/7 subscriptions. As our Kevin D. Williamson quipped, the "literal Caucasians" they got were not quite what they had in mind.
Many members of Congress, as well as average Americans, are furious that Russian intelligence warned the FBI about Tamerlan Tsarnaev, which interviewed him, allowed him to leave the country for six months and then ignored him.
His growing interest in radical Islam was obvious. He had visited Internet sites of Islamic radicals preaching hatred of America. The Wall Street Journal reports that he even tried to convert one of the FBI agents during his interview. Apparently that didn't raise any red flags since the FBI determined that Tamerlan was not a threat.
Tamerlan Tsarnaev is now the fifth person to become involved in a terror plot AFTER being interviewed by the FBI. Others include the Fort Hood assassin Major Nidal Hasan and Carlos Bledsoe, who attacked an Army recruiting office in Little Rock, Arkansas. Both attacks took place in 2009.
The Associated Press reports today that the interrogation of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has led investigators "to believe he and his brother were motivated by a radical brand of Islam." Sadly, that might come as a big surprise to many in our increasingly politically correct government.
Here's what has happened to the FBI under this president. In recent years, following orders from political appointees, the FBI has purged anything critical of the Muslim Brotherhood from its counterterrorism and agent preparation manuals. The Muslim Brotherhood is at the root of many modern Islamic terrorist movements.
The FBI has been ordered to reach out to local mosques, a good idea in theory. The problem is that many American mosques have been built with and are subsidized by Saudi money. They are often staffed with imams who are trained in Saudi Wahhabism and teach from radical Saudi texts.
Put yourself in the shoes of a young FBI agent. Often those agents have gone through U.S. universities permeated with leftwing instructors. There they learned all of America's flaws while being inundated with politically correct dogma extolling tolerance and diversity as the highest values.
Then they come into an agency in which the way to end your career is to appear to be overly zealous in pursuing radicalism in the Islamic community -- leaving you open to charges of profiling and bigotry.
Just consider what is coming from the top. President Obama hesitated to call the Boston Marathon bombing "terrorism." His administration labeled the Fort Hood shooting "workplace violence." After the attack, a top general fretted about "diversity becoming a victim."
The Secretary of the Homeland Security prefers to avoid the term "terrorism" in favor of "man-caused disasters." The new director of the Central Intelligence Agency argues that "jihad" is a "legitimate tenet of Islam."
The amazing thing is in spite of all these disincentives to keeping us safe, we have had only a handful of attacks like Fort Hood and the Boston Marathon bombing. But left-wing political correctness and pure blindness will put more Americans at risk, and, if unchecked, it will become our own "suicide belt."
Canadian Bombing Foiled
Chiheb Esseghaier and Raed Jaser, ages 30 and 35, were arrested in Canada yesterday and charged with plotting to blow up a passenger train that runs from Toronto to Niagara Falls and then onto Penn Station in New York City. Canadian authorities said that no attack was imminent, but stressed that the plot was serious because the men had "direction and guidance" from Al Qaeda operatives in Iran.
There is no known connection between this plot and the Boston bombing, except perhaps the motivation. The Canadian Muslim suspects have been described as "very religiously strict."
Immigration Reform A Boon To Democrats
I like Florida Senator Marco Rubio. I think he has a bright future ahead of him. But there must be some disconnect between the way he describes the comprehensive immigration reform bill he is supporting and the reaction of so many liberal Democrats to the bill.
Why is Chuck Schumer (D-NY) so happy with this bill? Schumer is a raw political partisan. Why has Obama's political operation announced it is mounting an all-out effort to get it passed? Politico answers those questions in a report today highlighting the electoral benefits for Democrats. Consider this excerpt:
"The immigration proposal pending in Congress would transform the nation's political landscape for a generation or more -- pumping as many as 11 million new Hispanic voters into the electorate a decade from now in ways that, if current trends hold, would produce an electoral bonanza for Democrats and cripple Republican prospects in many states they now win easily."
The article goes on to note that had those voters been eligible to participate in the 2012 election, Obama's narrow win would have been a seven-point landslide. States like Florida, Colorado and Nevada would be reliably Democrat, while Arizona and Texas would be highly competitive swing states.
To Rubio and the GOP leadership: SLOW DOWN!
Boy Scouts Compromise
The Boy Scouts of America, under pressure from the militant homosexual rights lobby and its big business allies, recently put forward a compromise on its membership policy. Trying to "cut the baby in half," the proposed new policy will allow openly homosexual scouts but not openly homosexual scout masters.
Given that the vast majority of scouting chapters are sponsored by churches or religiously affiliated organizations, this proposed compromise will hurt the Scouts and cost them members and chapters.
Predictably, all of the leftwing groups, led by the Human Rights Campaign, immediately made it clear that this compromise was not enough. If anyone at the BSA thought this would end the pressure, they haven't been paying attention to the culture wars in America.
This may be shocking to our friends at the BSA, but even if they announced a total reversal of the entire policy, the left's assault would not end. It would instead intensify.
Surrender would only be greeted by more demands for sensitivity training to guarantee that tolerance was being enforced, resulting in the indoctrination of young scouts into the homosexual rights agenda. All that the BSA accomplished with this move was to demoralize its supporters and encourage its opponents.
For readers who may be confronted by friends with the "tolerance" argument, let me remind you once again that this is not about tolerance. If tolerance is the yardstick, then where is the tolerance for the BSA and its values?
The left has no tolerance for the values of men and women of faith. Like the debate over marriage, this is about the left forcing its "morality" on the rest of society. It is the left that will not tolerate a traditional group for young men.
No one in America is saying, "You can't start a group similar to scouting for gay kids." Anyone can do that, but I doubt the group would have many members.
Meanwhile, the BSA only has to look to its Canadian counterpart to see what the future holds if it continues to surrender to the demands of the left.

Former FBI Agent: Gov't Probing Chechnya Ties More
Morning Jolt. . . with Jim Geraghty

They're the Bombers. I Want the Surviving Brother to Suffer. Deal with It.
A reader complains that I have referred to the infamous pair of brothers as "the bombers" instead of "the alleged bombers."
The presumption of innocence applies to proceedings in a court of law, not public opinion or private opinions. If you believe that, say, a particular Heisman Trophy winner killed his wife and a waiter back in the mid-90s, you're free to say so. A figure who is accused of crime in print or in a public forum could, presumably, sue for libel, but you and I know that this guy's spending the rest of his life in a hospital room, a courtroom, and a jail cell.
"Did you hear about the Boston explosion?" one of the two suspects said, according to a criminal complaint. "I did that." He then removed the magazine from his gun and showed the driver a bullet. "I am serious," he said.
Then we have the police encountering them and dodging similar homemade explosives from the pair Thursday night; then we have the younger brother finally being found in that boat. And that's before we get into any evidence of relatives or acquaintances describing the pair as engaging in behavior typical of jihadists. Finally, there's the UMass-Dartmouth vanity plate, "Terrorista #1."
Show me any scenario, beyond any grand sinister government conspiracy worthy of the most paranoid mind, that these two guys aren't the bombers.
Beyond the insistence that we deny the obvious conclusion of everything we've seen and heard in the past week, there seems to be a bit of public tsk-tsking for what strikes me as one of the most natural responses -- a furious anger and desire that the perpetrators pay severely for their most horrific of acts -- and in some corners, an insistence that the truly enlightened, sophisticated response is to find some sort of sympathy for the poor, misguided aspiring mass murderer.
Ace spotlights perhaps the most egregious example, a musician named Amanda Palmer writing a poem to one of the bombers. (If you're asking, "who's she?" don't feel bad. The only reason I have heard of her is that she gave a TED talk, about the value of asking people for things.)
For what it's worth, even some lefties are repulsed by this, with Gawker declaring it, "The Worst Poem of All Time."
Over at Salon, they conclude she's expecting applause for doing something unpopular, as if that ipso facto makes it daring and worthwhile:
Whatever one think of the artistic merits of the poem itself, its mere existence shouldn't be cause for outrage. It's far too easy to demonize and dehumanize, to comfortably assume that unfathomable acts must be committed by monsters. To take an empathetic view of a suspect is not tantamount to condoning what he's accused of, any more than not wanting to celebrate a reviled figure's death represents approval of the person's life. Palmer, in her poem, isn't asking for mercy for anybody. Instead, she's just making an artistic choice, to envision the perspective of someone whose eyes few of us can ever imagine seeing the world from.
Palmer loses serious goodwill points not in her attempt to do something creatively risky, but in her determined haughtiness about it. On her Twitter stream, she's been aggressively retweeting responses from her followers, giving a neat spotlight to those who call the way she's "made art" so "troubling, compassionate, brave" and how it "continues to inspire me." Sure, she's also noted the criticism, but her tweet that "wow. i'm getting scolded on my blog comments for writing a poem. wasn't expecting that, honestly" seems a tad disingenuous, self-pitying and, well, trollish. That's not an invitation to conversation. It's a plea for validation.
. . . Taking a tragedy and swiftly making it all about yourself is never pretty - and it isn't art.
Before we go any further, why is it important that I, or anyone else, "envision the perspective of someone whose eyes few of us can ever imagine seeing the world from"? His "perspective" drove him to put a ticking bomb next to an eight year old. [Blankety-blank] him.
I'm sorry, when you fill a pressure cooker full of nails, designed to maim and kill, and leave it in the middle of a crowd and walk away, and later shoot a cop in the head from behind him, you've become a monster, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with saying so. I'm very, very comfortable assuming that unfathomable acts are committed by monsters. That's what makes them unfathomable acts to the rest of us.
Organizing for Action's Big Talk on Another Gun-Control Vote
After the defeat of the Toomey-Manchin compromise, you're hearing a lot of gun-control advocates left in a combination of sputtering disbelief and rage. Midday Monday, Organizing for Action -- formerly Obama for America -- sent out a message that mentioned the "90 percent of Americans support this" statistic twice, concluding, "90 percent of this country is on our side, not theirs. If we all step up, we will be heard. And we will win the next vote."
So they think there's going to be another gun vote sometime soon. Say, as we get closer to Election Day 2014, does this vote get easier or harder for Red State Democrats? Do Kay Hagan in North Dakota and Mary Landrieu stay on board? Or do they feel even greater pressure to put daylight between themselves and, say, Mike Bloomberg's Mayors Against Illegal Guns?
Of course, if you want to pass something like Toomey-Manchin, you have to persuade Democratic senators Max Baucus of Montana, Mark Begich of Alaska, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, and Mark Pryor of Arkansas to switch sides and support the proposal. And in the end, the oft-cited "90 percent" figure clearly doesn't matter that much to them. A more interesting question is: How do Montanans, Alaskans, North Dakotans, and Arkansans feel? Judging by the votes of those four, the provisions of the Toomey-Manchin proposal weren't such a slam dunk.
Now USA Today offers a number that demonstrates the wording of the question matters a great deal:
Four months after the shooting rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School, a USA TODAY Poll finds support for a new gun-control law ebbing as prospects for passage on Capitol Hill seem to fade.
Americans are more narrowly divided on the issue than in recent months, and backing for a bill has slipped below 50%, the poll finds. By 49%-45%, those surveyed favor Congress passing a new gun-control law. In an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll in early April, 55% had backed a stricter gun law, which was down from 61% in February.
The survey of 1,002 adults was taken Thursday through Sunday by Princeton Survey Research. The margin of error is +/- 4 percentage points.
Clip and save the big talk from Organizing for Action, by the way. Because after the 2014 Senate primaries are done, when the Democrats' hopes of retaining the Senate hang on Baucus, Begich, and Pryor . . . let's see how important this vote really is to them. Let's see if Organizing for Action really is willing to leave these senators alone because of this issue, when they're neck-and-neck with Republican challengers.
Maybe they'll prove me wrong. But I'll bet that as we approach November 2014, Organizing for Action will be sending out a very different message -- about how Baucus, Begich, and Pryor must be reelected for the sake of the president's agenda in the next two years.
Speaking of Polling . . .
I think we can safely say this is not the result the Huffington Post wanted to see in their most recent survey:
Americans place less importance on environmental issues than they did in 1971, a year after Earth Day was established, according to a new HuffPost/YouGov poll. But the poll also finds that more Americans are taking some steps to protect the environment, such as cutting down on electricity use, eating organic foods and recycling.
The 1971 Nixon poll found that 63 percent of respondents said that it was "very important" to work to restore and enhance the national environment, with 25 percent saying it was "fairly important" and only 8 percent saying it was "not too important." But in the 2013 HuffPost/YouGov poll, only 39 percent of respondents said it was very important, while 41 percent said it was fairly important and 16 percent said it was not too important.
And on one measure -- switching to lower phosphate cleaning products -- Americans in 2013 performed worse than their 1971 counterparts. Fewer Americans said that they had switched to low-phosphate cleaning products in 2013 (16 percent) than in 1971 (25 percent).
Okay, how many of you checked the level of phosphates in your cleaning product? Okay, wait, how many of you have used a cleaning product lately? Uh-huh, I thought so.
Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi, the Saudi national who was initially a "person of interest" in the Boston bombings was placed on a "no-fly list," or a terror watch list, after he was detained and before federal authorities determined whether he was involved in the attack or just a mere witness, an official with the Department of Homeland Security told TheBlaze HERE.

Ask any gun control advocate for their reasoning behind preferring more restrictions on firearms, and you're sure to hear a very shopworn argument: That states with tougher gun laws have fewer gun related crimes, thus partially obviating the need for self defense. So who's right? What does the data show, and how do these experts explain it when it goes against them? The answer is complicated, but we at TheBlaze have rallied to try to answer it. Hope springs eternal. Whenever an act of political violence occurs, liberals eagerly wish for the perpetrators to be Tea Partiers. Alas, they are always disappointed. Via InstaPundit, Tim Blair points out that the disease isn't limited to the U.S. The Sydney Morning Herald ran a very silly column by one Waleed Aly, who said, among other howlers:
But it's possible, too, that this reticence is a product of the very real suspicion that the perpetrators here are self-styled American patriots. At this point, most analysts are leaning that way. And while it's entirely possible they are wrong, there's something chilling about realising that this violence might not be something that can be assigned to a demonic other. Maybe we're speaking in more hushed tones because our own societies might just be implicated.
Tough luck, Waleed. Maybe next time. But what really made the Morning Herald's Tea Party slander a classic was the graphic the paper chose to accompany Aly's column:
Maybe the paper could atone by accompanying its next article on the Boston bombing with this far more relevant image:
Don't hold your breath, though. That would be much too controversial! And maybe too dangerous.
"Miss me yet?" the billboards asked, early in Obama's first term. It took a while, but more voters than ever are missing George W. Bush. His approval rating is now up to 47%, right around where President Obama has been in recent weeks. Expect it to keep rising, as Obama makes him look good by comparison. When President Bush left office, I gave his two terms a B-. I won't grade Obama until he leaves office, but he certainly won't rate anywhere near that high.
What [Obama] may do is tentatively approve Keystone along with a major policy shift that will please environmentalists and subject Keystone to further and perhaps fatal delays. There is talk that the administration may expand the scope of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) to require that proposed projects like Keystone document their impact on global warming in the permit approval process.
Well, that talk became reality yesterday (Earth Day, by coincidence), when the EPA, citing NEPA, released a letter to the State Department attacking State's positive environmental review of Keystone. You can download the whole letter from this LA Times (soon to be a Koch Industries publication?) story. It's six pages long; hardly a serious "study" of Keystone. Also as I predicted in my article ("It would be a bonanza for environmental lawyers, who would have new grounds for filing lawsuits to challenge the adequacy of environmental impact statements"), the EPA letter says State's environmental impact statement didn't adequately consider all alternative routes, didn't adequately consult local activist groups (i.e., relentless obstructionists) and didn't consider "environmental justice" (i.e., they haven't asked Jesse Jackson's permission). Overall, EPA says, there is "insufficient information" to make a final environmental impact assessment.
Pretty clear what is going to happen next. Citing this letter, Obama is going to order the EPA to do its own full review of Keystone, which will likely take a couple of years or more. No doubt he hopes TransCanada will run out of patience and abandon the whole idea, and build pipelines to ship the oil overseas to other customers (or to the U.S. by train and ocean-going tanker). It's another way for Obama to vote "present."
Last week I participated, via Skype, on a Canadian TV show about Keystone and energy issues. My point: those Canadian hydrocarbons are coming out of the ground and getting to the market. The only question is how fast, and whether it will be done sensibly or insensibly. If you're a fan of Canadian news programs, you can watch the hour-long show here. (I sound a bit tinny on Skype if you ask me.)
I'd give the EPA a Green Weenie, except that under the usual contest rules, friends and family members are ineligible.
Janet Napolitano is testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee about the comprehensive immigration bill. Naturally, she supports this legislation, which is a crucial element of her boss's agenda.
In response to questioning from Sen. Cornyn, Napolitano has admitted that the "90 percent effectiveness rate" standard cannot reliably be calculated because we don't know who is crossing the border undetected. Yet the 90 percent effectiveness rate is a key criterion for determining that the border has been secured.
Keep this in mind the next time Marco Rubio or one of his fellow Gang members touts the 90 percent effectiveness standard in an effort to persuade us that the border will be secured before illegal aliens receive full amnesty and a path to citizenship.
Sen. Lee points to the huge amount of discretion the legislation confers upon the Department of Homeland Security. Napolitano doesn't disagree about this. Some have suggested that there are more than 400 instances of new discretionary decisions the Secretary of DHS will be able to make.
Do you trust the DHS Secretary and her successors to exercise this amount of discretion capably and in compliance with the law? I don't. (See below for more about why I don't trust DHS.)
Sen. Cruz states that the bill relies on the existence of sound metrics regarding the effectiveness of border enforcement. Napolitano doesn't disagree.
But Napolitano's answers to Cruz's questions suggest that DHS's metrics are confused and easily manipulated. First, she testifies that the number of apprehensions has stayed the same except in southern Texas where there has been a spike. But then she testifies that apprehensions, border-wide, are at a 40-year low.
I don't see how both statements can be true.
Moreover, Cruz shows that DHS uses apprehension rates to claim effectiveness whatever they show. If apprehensions increase, that's considered evidence of effectiveness. After all, people are being caught. But if apprehensions decrease, that's also considered evidence effectiveness. It is said to show that people have given up on trying to get in.
In the end, Napolitano testifies that there is no one way to determine effectiveness of border enforcement. It's a combination of factors. I guess we'll just have to trust the government to chose the factors and weigh them in a sensible way.
But Sen. Sessions' questions show that DHS cannot be trusted. Napolitano admits to him that the morale of ICE officers - the folks who actually try to enforce our immigration laws - has "plummeted" and is a major concern. In fact, it ranks 279 out of 291 federal agencies, according to a recent study.
Why has morale become so low? Probably because the poltical appointees at DHS prevent ICE officers from doing their jobs. Indeed, ICE officers have sued DHS for precisely this reason. They claim that DHS bars them from doing what the immigration law says they "shall" do.
Napolitano's response is telling. She says that the ICE officers' suit highlights a reason for enacting the Gang of 8's legislation. Why? Because it will change the duties of the ICE officers to reflect what DHS wants them to do.
That's fine, but it's no excuse for forcing ICE officers not to carry out their duties under current law. How can we trust an agency that substitutes its judgment about what ICE officers should do for what the law requires of them?
Clearly, we can't. We should expect DHS to bend the new law to suit its political purposes, just as it is doing now under the old law.
Napolitano also admits that she has not met with ICE union representatives even though they have requested to meet with her. Perhaps morale among ICE officers would be higher if she would deign to meet with the union.
Sen. Durbin asks whether Napolitano agrees with him that the worst outcome would be to do nothing. Against all odds, Napolitano concurs.
But this is a cynical and fraudulent argument. If the Democrats really believed that doing nothing is the worst option, they would not have held taken an all or nothing approach to immigration reform. But they have insisted that there can be no reform - i.e., they will opt for doing nothing - unless they get amnesty and a path to citizenship for illegal aliens.
Someone should ask Napolitano whether, if this legislation is defeated, she will support an alternative that provides for increased border security but does not grant amnesty or a path to citizenship. Someone should ask Durbin the same question.
Sen. Cruz takes a second round of questioning. He asks Napolitano what facts would be sufficient to persuade her that the enforcement trigger hasn't been satisfied. She ducks the question, but Cruz politely insists on an answer. The best she can do is to say that if conditions in Tuscon return to what they were in 2005, the trigger won't be satisfied.
A "Tuscon 2005" standard - even if one trusts Napolitano to adhere to it - isn't good enough. Neither, as Napolitano has admitted, is the 90 percent effectiveness rate. In reality, there is no meaningful standard, and one cannot rely on DHS's subjective judgment.
Chairman Leahy concludes the hearing (which lasted a little more than two hours) by saying that there are some who will always find a reason why we can't have immigration reform now. I don't know who these people are. Every Republican I know would like to see reform - certainly they favor enacting better measures to secure the border, at a minimum. Many would, including me, are prepared to go much further.
But most Republicans don't favor the bill put together by the Gang of 8. The hearings of the past two days, though far from adequate for a bill of this magnitute, have gone a ways towards showing why.
Let's hope that Republican legislators, if not in the Senate than in the House, follow through and block this legislation.
Take the emotion out of it. After Gosnell, the intellectually honest and inquisitive must accept that abortion necessarily involves the taking of life, which means pro-abortion arguments must necessarily collapse upon themselves and disappear. Of course, intellectual honesty is not a requirement, but a choice.
The fact is that Islam plays a primary role in violence, not just here, but around the world. A news organization's attempt to hide the evidence of this raises really only one question: Who do these knuckleheads think they're talking to? Who exactly do they think you are?
As I listened to the police scanner during the Boston manhunt, I wasn't thinking about "police all over the place" in the "personal security guard" sense. I realized right then that if I were holed up in my house while a cold-blooded terrorist roamed my neighborhood, I wouldn't want to be a sitting duck with only a deadbolt lock between me and an armed intruder.
Classical music? Modern architecture? "Radicalism" in general? In contrast to the self-imposed PC blinders of the left, our own Victor Davis Hanson has one of the clearest initial explanations for the Boston bombers' motives.

Despite endless warnings about the coming plague of "global warming," the Earth's temperature has remained almost unchanged for some 15 years now. Yet there are so many believers in environmentalism that it's started to feel like a religion.
Every religion needs a creed. A set of beliefs that its followers can adhere to. Christians have the Nicene Creed, drafted in the fourth century. Maybe environmentalist will start reciting this one...
Competition is good-but only when it encourages a "race to the top." That's true in business and among the states as well. Competition can encourage policy innovation. Yet such competition can also drive cronyism: When one state won't pitch in direct financial incentives (i.e., bribes) for a pet project, perhaps another state will.
As millions of Americans scrambled to file their taxes filed on time, they probably didn't spend much time wondering how we got here. But the modern income tax, with the federal government drawing most of its money from payments by citizens, is relatively new.

History shows that big bills designed to solve everything wind up creating as many problems as they address. They become loaded with payoffs for special interests and often introduce measures that work at cross purposes.
The "comprehensive" bill fails at the start. Here are the top five reasons it cannot be fixed.
1. Amnesty. This bill grants amnesty. It creates a framework for legalization for the estimated 11 million people unlawfully present in the United States. Anyone who was present in the U.S. before 2012 qualifies, but there is too much opportunity for fraud-since there is no proof required that applicants have been here for several years.
2. Fiscal Costs to the Taxpayer. This plan does not account for the government benefits, especially welfare and entitlement benefits, that would be paid to those who are legalized over their lifetimes. The additional costs to taxpayers would be enormous. Some argue that amnesty would bring economic gains, but these would actually be captured by the formerly unlawful immigrants themselves. Legalization brings little economic benefit to the rest of us.
3.Government Spending. The bill is a Trojan horse for government spending, and in some cases, it appears the funding is unrestricted or ill-defined. Just one example is a $6.5 billion "Comprehensive Immigration Reform Trust," which includes a $2 billion "slush fund" for border security.
Our federal government currently spends $1 trillion more per year than it takes in, so adding on a new, unlimited spending commitment makes no sense at all. The entire cost of implementing the bill has yet to be determined. Further, the bill trashes fiscal discipline, exploiting "a loophole in the Budget Control Act (BCA) that allows Congress to spend more than allowed under the spending caps adopted in 2011."
4."Border Triggers." The bill requires certification of "border triggers" for stemming the tide of illegal border crossings before additional steps in the legalization process can proceed.
But the Department of Homeland Security has been trying unsuccessfully to define credible metrics for border security since 2004. Even if it had effective "triggers," that does not guarantee a secure border. Border crossing conditions constantly change. Even if the goal is achieved, there is no guarantee it will stay that way.
Amnesty creates an incentive for illegal border crossings and overstays. Thus, the strategy laid out would drive up the cost of securing the border. Just throwing money at the border does not make sense. The policies adopted on both sides of the border are more important.
For example, the Coast Guard is significantly underfunded and unprepared. America's coastlines are already seeing a significant increase in illegal entry by sea, a trend that has been growing since 2007.
5.Lawful Immigration Reform. The bill "modernizes" lawful immigration and non-immigration visas. These modernizations include substantially lowering "chain" migration; abolishing the diversity lottery; expanding the visa waiver; increasing high-skill migration; and expanding temporary worker programs.
Reforming the legal immigration system-in principle-is laudable. But trying to craft precise measures in a massive bill like this is difficult. For example, though it sounds innocuous, one provision in the legislation could lead to big problems. The legislation allows documents "issued by a federally recognized Indian tribe" to be used for identity and employment purposes. Numerous Indian tribes exist along the southern border, including the Texas Kickapoo, the Ysleta Del Sur, and, the largest, the Tohona O'Odham. Indian reservations already serve as drug pipelines and have been cited as weak links in border security. Given these issues, does it really make sense to add this exemption to legislation aimed at minimizing identification fraud?
Once we get it right, there is strong bipartisan support that modernizing lawful immigration ought to be a priority. Congress should put its effort into accomplishing that aim-moving forward on an area of strong agreement, while allowing time to debate issues where there is not strong consensus.
We deserve better-all of us. Employers deserve better than having to sift through falsified credentials or risk breaking the law. Families in communities burdened by the impacts of illegal immigration deserve better. In fact, all who cherish a society that is committed to keeping America both a nation of immigrants and a country that respects its laws deserve better.
Immigration reform can move forward on many fronts at the same time, focusing on some commonsense initiatives that begin to address the practical challenges of our immigration system. The key is to begin by working on the solutions on which we can all agree, rather than insisting on a comprehensive approach that divides us.
President Obama yesterday endorsed a Senate bill that would allow states to tax online purchases. Under this proposal, anything you buy online would be subject to new state and local sales taxes based on where you live.
The burden on businesses would be immense and would skew the playing field against online businesses and online consumers. "This means quizzing purchasers about their location, looking up the appropriate rules and regulations in more than 9,600 taxing jurisdictions across the country, and then collecting and remitting sales tax for that distant authority," writes Andrew Moylan, senior fellow with the R Street Institute. "No brick-and-mortar shop has to do this for in-store sales, and yet every online retailer would have to do it for remote sales."
The plan amounts to "taxation without representation," Heritage President Jim DeMint wrote last year. Under the proposed arrangement, business owners would be subject to taxes over which they have no say.
The bottom line? This tax will benefit politicians and special interests while hurting consumers and small businesses who conduct business online.
Furthermore, he says, "it treats unlawful immigrants more favorably than more than 4 million law-abiding people who wait outside our borders, following the rules, for their chance to come to contribute to the economic and social well-being of America."
The benefits of the modern welfare state-and the Obama administration's push to sign up more Americans for programs like food stamps-threatens to create more and more dependency. "To be sure, most immigrants who come to this country don't come looking for a government handout," DeMint writes, "but it's clear that this Administration wants to increase what was once a government safety net into a trap of dependency."
Speaking Monday at The Heritage Foundation, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) outlined a conservative vision of a free society based on America's first principles.
Two institutions lie at the core of American freedom, he said during his remarks in Heritage's Lehrman Auditorium: "A free enterprise economy and voluntary civil society." These organically-developed systems "work for everyone" by "harnessing individuals' self interest to work for the common good."
American freedom can bring people together, he said, while big-government policies divide people into interest groups and turn citizens into dependents.
Speaking to Cavuto by phone, DeMint urged lawmakers to reconsider the amnesty-first Senate proposal. The way this bill works, he said, amnesty is enacted first and "then we have to hope that the President and the Congress actually carry through on fixing our immigration system."
Information released regarding the suspects in last week's Boston marathon bombings indicates they have ties to Chechnya.
Heritage Foundation expert Ariel Cohen released a report last fall on the threats posed to the U.S. and our allies by instability in Chechnya and Russia's Northern Caucasus region. "As Russia continues to lose control of the region, it is becoming a significant base for Islamist terrorist organizations and organized crime and may ignite an even greater terrorist campaign inside Russia and beyond," Cohen wrote. Read the whole report, which includes substantial background on the region and its instability.

As you know, the immigration debate in Washington is in full swing. We know you are being inundated with information that is most likely hard to sift through, understand, and discern.
For your convenience, we have created a website that hosts all of the most up-to-date information and alerts on the current reform and have carefully chosen articles that most accurately depict the arguments and situational aspects of the debate on the Hill.
As we noted in an earlier alert, the primary concerns about the Gang of 8's bill are:
The Cost of Amnesty
Failure to secure the border
Threats to American jobs
The "ObamaCare-style" Process - lack of transparency, secrecy, backroom deals made behind closed doors that only benefit the people making the deals.
We have divided the articles, video clips, and alerts into subject areas, so you can stay apprised of them all. We have also made it easy for you to share these articles on social media like Facebook and Twitter.
It is pertinent that we get the factual information about immigration reform and amnesty to the American people. We can do this by sharing the facts that the mainstream media will not report with our friends and on social media.
Please help educate your friends and family by forwarding this e-mail to at least 5 of your friends that might not be on the Eagle Forum list.
As we told you in this recent alert, no matter how you package it or what you call it, the proposed Gang of Eight bill IS amnesty. We must stop it, just as we did in 2007.
We need you to forward the EagleForum.organdStopAmnesty.me websites to your friends and encourage them to join us in the fight against Amnesty. We also need you to call and keep calling your Senators and tell them to say NO to the Gang of 8's bill!

Today: ICE Union President Chris Crane tells Senate Committee that Gang snubbed law enforcement; Tell your Members of Congress
Friends,
"Never before have I seen such contempt for law enforcement officers as what I've seen from the Gang of Eight."
-- Testimony from ICE Union President Chris Crane at Senate Judiciary Hearing, April 23, 2013
Yesterday, ICE Union President Chris Crane did a phenomenal job testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee, and his statement above best sums up his message to the Committee.
Crane told the lawmakers how the Gang ignored repeated meeting requests by law enforcement to provide input and insight while the Gang drafted its amnesty bill. He noted that special interest groups and illegal aliens had seats at the table.
"This legislation was crafted behind closed doors with big business, big unions, and groups representing illegal aliens. Groups with their own interests. Groups that stand to make millions from this legislation. Anyone with a significantly different opinion on immigration reform was prohibited by the Gang of Eight from having input."
Crane also testified about how law enforcement was treated when it tried to work its way into the process.
"Last week, desperate to be heard, border sheriffs, interior sheriffs, deputies and immigration agents all came to Washington, D.C. with the hope that the Gang of Eight would hear their concerns. They held two meetings on two separate days, not one member of the Gang of Eight attended.
"Last week when I respectfully asked a question to the Gang of Eight at their press conference, I was escorted out by police and Senate staff. I was spoken to with anger and disrespect."

THE LATEST: Napolitano admits: Saudi was put on watch list
All week, TheBlaze has been following up on the Saudi national who was initially investigated for several hours before being downgraded to merely a witness and ultimately released. Where is he now? What did authorities find in his apartment? These are just some of the questions remaining as the case continues to unfold. And earlier today, Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano revealed that Abdul Rahman Al-Harbi was indeed placed on a watch list. MORE
Glenn: We are in a country that no longer recognizes the truth
In the days following the Boston Marathon bombing, we watched the utter failure of both the media and the government to provide factual, accurate, and truthful information to the American people. As a result, there has been a 'disinformation campaign' of falsities and conspiracies that disrespect all those affected by the bombing. But can Americans even recognize the truth anymore? Glenn reacts on radio this morning.
It wouldn't be the first time America & Saudi Arabia did this...
TheBlaze has caught some heat from government officials and others for its ongoing reports about the Saudi national who, in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing, has been handled in a way that leaves far more questions than answers. Why the media is so quick to defend the government is curious, considering after 9/11 several private planes shuttled Saudi nationals out of America when all other planes were grounded. Glenn has more on radio today.
In Gosnell trial, 3 counts of murder tossed out by judge, 5 remain
Kermit Gosnell, the evil abortion doctor who severed the brain stems of babies born alive, has managed to avoid several charges - including 3 counts of murder! - so far in his trial. Several murder charges still remain, but the arguments used to stave off the first wave of charges were ridiculous. The judge's decision to toss those charges against Gosnell is simply inexplicable. Get the very latest updates on the trial via TheBlaze.
