The upheavals of 2011-2012 across the Middle East and North Africa swept aside secular rulers and the established political order with startling speed, and continue to focus world attention on the revolutionary forces driving these far-reaching events. Poverty, oppression, inequality, and lack of individual freedom are all hallmarks of the societal stagnation that has gripped the Islamic world for the better part of fourteen centuries, but the driving force of the so-called "Arab Spring" is a resurgent Islam, dominated by the forces of al-Qa'eda and the Muslim Brotherhood. Energized as Islam may be at this time, however, without the active involvement of the United States to help arm[1], fund[2], support[3], and train[4] the region's Islamic rebels, it is questionable whether they could have gotten this far, this fast.
This report describes how the Muslim Brotherhood infiltrated and suborned the U.S. government to actively assist, whether knowingly or not, the mission of its grand jihad. Its hard-won position at the forefront of the 21
stcentury Islamic Awakening is possible only because of decades of patient infiltration and political indoctrination (
Da'wa) in the West, and especially the United States of America, even as the grassroots work of building an organizational structure advanced steadily in the land of its origin as well. It is important to recognize the sophistication of the Brotherhood's international strategy and how the takedown of U.S. national security defenses
from within
was critical to the current Middle East-North Africa (MENA) campaign to re-establish the Caliphate and enforce Islamic Law (shariah).
Origins of the Muslim Brotherhood
To understand the Brotherhood and how it operates, especially inside Western societies such as America's, a brief overview of where it came from and why it was established is in order. Following the early years of blindingly fast military conquests, Islam began to falter as European Christendom doggedly kept pushing back, eventually surpassing an increasingly corrupt empire that had run out of lands to conquer, people to enslave, and riches to plunder. Yoked by consensus of the scholars (
ijma) to an ideology that rejected critical thought, innovation, and scientific inquiry in favor of blind obedience to revelation, the Islamic world remained largely untouched by the Renaissance, Enlightenment, and eventual Industrial and Technological revolutions that catapulted the West to global power status.
[5] Eventual European colonization of the Arab and Muslim world and the stunningly successful re-establishment of the Jewish nation in the modern State of Israel brought humiliation to people raised on tales of historical supremacism over these, its traditional
dhimmi
victims.Aside from Israel, which came later, this was the world into which Hassan al-Banna was born in the early 20
thcentury. An Egyptian Cairene, al-Banna seethed with frustration at Islam's diminished status in the world; in particular he resented the presence and power of the British colonial administration in Egypt. The abolishment of the last Caliphate by Kemal Ataturk in 1924 was perhaps the worst indignity, one that left al-Banna and his young Muslim university contemporaries apparently feeling unmoored. They joined together in 1928, determined (as we know from their statements and writing) to rectify things; "rectifying things," for them, seems to have meant re-establishment of the Caliphate and global enforcement of Islamic Law (shariah). The organization they founded to return Egypt, the Middle East, and eventually the world to "proper" subservience to Islam as ordained by Allah would be the Muslim Brotherhood (
Al-Ikhwan al-Muslimun
in Arabic).
Global Jihad
Since its inception in 1928, the Muslim Brotherhood consistently has championed the cause of global jihad to "mobilize the entire Umma into one body to defend the right cause with all its strength...to jihad, to warfare..."[6]
Until early 2011, its original bylaws could be found on the Brotherhood's English language website, Ikhwanweb, established in 2005 by senior Brotherhood official Khairat al-Shater. Since then, they have been preserved by Steven Emerson at The Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT)[7]. Article (2) makes clear that the Brotherhood conceives of itself as "an international Muslim Body, which seeks to establish Allah's law in the land by achieving the spiritual goals of Islam and the true religion...establishing the Islamic State" and "...building a new basis of human civilization as is ensured by the overall teachings of Islam."[8]
In case that sounds relatively benign, Article (3) E gets more to the point: "The Islamic nation must be fully prepared to fight the tyrants and the enemies of Allah as a prelude to establishing an Islamic state."[9] This is exactly what the Brotherhood did in Egypt in the violent years before and after the 1949 death of al-Banna, until it was forcibly suppressed, only to rise again in 2011-2012 when circumstances permitted.
The story of how those circumstances shifted to permit (even compel) the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood to power not only in Egypt, but also Libya, Tunisia, and perhaps soon, Syria and elsewhere, spans 20
th century world history. World War II and the Brotherhood's close alliance with Adolf Hitler and his genocidal antisemitic Nazis provided the perfect opportunity for Islam's latest expansion into Europe, where dozens of Brotherhood branches were established. Upon the defeat of Nazi Germany, its clandestine networks of Muslim operatives were picked up by the western Allies and naively turned to the same purpose as the Nazis had pursued: to counter the influence of atheist communist Soviets.[10] So it was that Sa'id Ramadan, the son-in-law of Hasan al-Banna, and a delegation of Muslim Brothers, found themselves in the Oval Office on 23 September 1953 meeting with President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

"We did not come to ask for mercy from nature," Ivan Vladimirovich Michurin, the Lysenko of Soviet agriculture, once declared. "We must wrest it from her."
Communist science was guided not by the journey from hypothesis to fact but by the dusty proclamations of Marxist theorists. Soviet scientists were expected to reject capitalist science and formulate a science that matched the Communist worldview.
The Communist worldview insisted that every living creature could be completely transformed into anything. It rejected natural selection as having a competitive capitalist bent that suspiciously resembled a biological version of free market competition. And pseudo-scientists like Lysenko and Michurin matched bad science to bad ideology laying out an official dogma in which transforming the environment could transform any creature and in which intraspecies struggle did not lead to evolution.
The USSR's politicization of biology crippled its agriculture. Its leaders rejected free market competition on the human level and in the plant and animal kingdoms. They insisted that nature had to follow Marxist dialectical materialism and locked up and murdered the scientists who disagreed. By the time the USSR fell, a land which had once exported wheat to the world had gone deep into debt to buy wheat from the United States.
But bad ideology driving bad science didn't die with Lysenko and Michurin. The new Lysenkos are Warmunists like Michael Mann and James Hansen. The environmentalists, like the Communists, believe that human beings have total control over the environment and that the environment determines all. Where they differ is the perceived effect of that influence. Warmunism, like Communism, originates not from science, but from ideology. The Communists divided industry into two types by ideological classification; the good cooperative Socialist industry and the bad competitive Capitalist industry. The Warmunists similarly ideologically classify two types of industry; environmentally conscious green technology and dirty non-socially conscious brown technology.
The Warmunists, like the Communists, classify science and industry not by outcome, but by ideology, and then paper over that classification with bad science. Green technology is often dirtier and less efficient than the so-called brown technology, but like the collective farms and the idiotic ramblings of Michurin and Lysenko, it's better because it more closely fits the Socialist vision of how things ought to work.
Scientists debate, but ideologues delegitimize. The Communists did not debate science. They declared dogma and locked up anyone who disagreed. The Warmunists don't have the power to sentence their critics to prison, though some among them have broached the notion, instead they plot campaigns of character assassination against those who question the theories that they try to pass off as final facts.

Urgent action required It is urgent that every gun owner call their Senators today and demand that they oppose the "See a Shrink, Lose your Guns" sell-out bill that is being authored by Senators Pat Toomey (R) and Joe Manchin (D) - but which also has Chuck Schumer's fingerprints all over it. Call immediately at 202-224-3121.
See a Shrink, Lose your Guns The anti-gun "ranters" have spent the last week telling us that Republican Senators can't filibuster Harry Reid's gun control bill; that they can't cut off debate to a bill they haven't seen yet. "Let the bill come up," they say. "We need to see the bill" before Senators can vote against cloture in order to proceed to it. An unintended conscequence could be people afraid to seek help for depression or anxiety for fear of loosing their right to bear arms.
Repeal of gun owner protections In addition, Toomey no doubt unintentionally agreed to repeal one of the most important protections for gun owners that was included in the 1986 McClure-Volkmer Act - the provision that would allow you to take an unloaded, locked-up gun through states like New York without being stopped. Under a new subsection (c), the Toomey-Manchin-Schumer bill would require you to "demonstrate" to the satisfaction of New York police where you were coming from and where you are going to. And, if you don't do that to their satisfaction, they can arrest you.
Nothing is this bill would actually make children safer at schools. There is nothing that will actually keep bad guys from stealing or illegally acquiring guns, but there's plenty that will threaten our gun rights!
ACTION: Click here to contact your two senators immediately. Tell them the "see a shrink; lose your guns" sellout is even worse than the Feinstein gun ban which will reportedly be on the same amendment tree with it. Distribute this alert far and wide.

We are thrilled to announce that Amity Shlaes, author of Coolidge and The Forgotten Man, will deliver the keynote address at our 5th Annual April T.E.A. (Taxed Enough Already) Party.
(Last year, special guest Governor Mitt Romney joined us at the Franklin Institute.)
The theme of Ms. Shlaes talk will be: "The President Who Said 'No' to Taxes and Spending."
Making his 5th straight appearance at our April T.E.A. Party will be our great friend,
Dom Giordano. Dom will speak and also moderate the Q & A Session with Ms. Shlaes.

Pot of Gold Money Drop Campaign
As you well know, the Independence Hall Tea Party Association rarely sends out appeals to raise money for itself.
We are very sensitive to the fact that far too many organizations solicit funds from you, via email, on a daily or weekly basis.
Rarely, if ever, do you see the fruits of your contributions to these groups. Much of the money raised goes to cover the cost of paid staff and/or to professional fundraising and consulting firms.
Unlike most of these organizations, the Association is an all volunteer organization. Every penny we raise is spent on costs associated with our mission.
One observer said of the Association, "You get more bang for your dollar from the Independence Hall Tea Party than most conservative organizations combined."
In order for us to continue to serve our country, we must erase a small debt and raise money for future expenses, including our constant contact bill ($1500 a year).
If everyone sent us just $5, we would easily raise in excess of $30,000.00.
As it is, our goal is to raise $5000.

Heritage Foundation weighs in on Common Core

Like many other states, Common Core standards are quickly making their way into the classroom. While proponents of the standards continue to champion their predicted benefits, there is significant cause for concern.First, the standards represent a massive federal overreach. The Obama Administration jumped on board from the get go, promoting national education standards, via policy and federal taxpayer dollars, as part of their education agenda. Billions of federal dollars have gone towards and are continuing to fund, the promotion and implementation of these standards nationwide. The federal government's involvement with the standards should be alarming. Pushing state and local leaders away from classroom curriculum is not only a breach in federalism but gives parents, teachers, and communities less say over what children learn in school. Education experts have also raised alarm over the quality of the standards. Sandra Stotsky, Professor of Education Reform at the University of Arkansas, has particularly expressed concern over the English Language Arts. Common Core's ELA standards reduce emphasis on literature by promoting the study of "informational texts." Stotsky says
, "A diminished emphasis on literature in the secondary grades makes it unlikely that American students will study a meaningful range of culturally and historically significant literary works before graduation. It also prevents students from acquiring a rich understanding and use of the English language. Perhaps of greatest concern, it may lead to a decreased capacity for analytical thinking."

Suggestion on Curriculum - Many people are telling us that their legislators are arguing that Common Core does NOT control curriculum it only sets standards. We will shortly have a piece debunking that, but in order to not to get lost in a hopeless argument you may just want to call them "national standards" when writing letters to the editor or communicating with your legislator rather than stating that Common Core determines curriculum.

State Board of Education Meetings - Please be advised that the PA State Board of Education did hold meetings that technically were open to the public to discuss Common Core prior to voting to enact CCS, but were not well publicized and in some cases were held in buildings with restricted access.

Remember FERPA laws were changed last year and I am sure not one parent is aware that permission to share information about our children no longer requires parental consent. Obama just slipped all these new changes in and I don't believe any parents were ever asked their opinions about these changes. And where was our Republican Congress when this happened???

Across America, state and local officials are writing bills and resolutions to protect citizen's from Agenda 21's policies. Because many people do not recognize Agenda 21 in action, property owners still remain at risk.
To help officials recognize Agenda 21's footprint, SFL created a document in a Q&A format that answers:

How will I recognize Agenda 21?
The document has a lot more information for community members and officials, including a brief history of Agenda 21 and actions to take to have safe planning without top-down intervention.
Grants issued in conjunction with government 'sustainability initiatives' contain stipulations or implementation practices that are the primary doorway for Agenda 21/sustainable development to enter your community. These stipulations often require no growth boundaries, income integration through low-income housing demands, reduced vehicle usage, healthy cities, livability principles and other forms of social engineering.
Other grants issued by non-profit groups such as the Packard, Pew or Carnegie Foundations, frequently promote Agenda 21. Often this happens when HUD or some other federal agency funds the foundation with the money they in turn offer as a sustainability-related grant.
Non-governmental organizations:
Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) including ICLEI, the Nature Conservancy, American Farmland Trust and the American Planning Association have close ties to HUD-EPA-DOT sustainability initiatives and promote Agenda 21 through their regional and community work, conservation easements and funding.
Federal agencies:
Federal agency Acts including the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act and Endangered Species Act have so expanded, that individual's rights are losing way to unfounded and often exaggerated endangerment findings. The solutions to their findings invariably require fines, taxes, property rights' infringements or the outright transfer of private lands to the government.
Preservation programs, National Parks, Historic Places and Byways, Heritage Sites and Legacy Forest programs have exceeded prudent land and species' protection and are now confiscating massive quantities of the U.S. land mass in alignment with Agenda 21 principles.
The planning process:
Planners' surveys - contain unfair questions that do not express all of resident's options
Consensus meetings - are conducted in ways that elicit responses that support the planner's goals rather than genuine community desires
Visioning sessions- may be over-conducted to the point that the vision belongs to the facilitator and only appears to be that of the community.
Stakeholder meetings - can produce misleading results when the stakeholders do not represent the average community member. Frequently the "stakeholders" have a financial or ideological interest in implementing the plan.
Zoning regulations - originating with the American Planning Association (and others,) contains language that establishes the legal framework to implement Agenda 21 in communities. HUD, other federal agencies and firms such as Siemens funded the development of the APA's Growing Smart Legislative Guidebook, 2nd ed. These supporters all have a stake in Agenda 21's implementation.
Conservation easements - often contain undiscussed clauses that severely restrict property owners' rights, reduce property values and favor the land trust for future contract changes.
Regionalism:
Regional councils replace much of the local officials' authority with unelected boardmembers.
As the regional council matures, local rule diminishes, leaving citizens with more distant and reduced representation.
Once a region is formed, the ability to oppose sustainable development is limited.
Generally, when the regional council accepts grant monies, all tethered communities are bound by the grant stipulations.
Regional planning often includes tax base sharing which promotes wealth transfer by forcing community members to pay for services in other locations.
Regional planning often includes "no growth boundaries" that force housing into urban and inner ring suburban areas. This reduces homebuyers' choices and artificially inflates the value of some properties, while reducing it for others.
Awareness about Agenda 21 is finally spreading throughout the country, due in no small part to your efforts. But knowing it is there isn't enough. Now we need to educate ourselves on how to combat it. That's where you come in.
American Policy Center has recently released a booklet that explains everything you need to know to start fighting back against sustainable programs both locally and nationally. The booklet is called Special Report: Agenda 21 and How to Stop It and is available in the APC store for only $5.95.
I wrote this 35 page booklet in order to give activists a succinct resource they can refer to if they suspect Agenda 21 or Sustainable Development is being implemented in their area. It includes my own research coupled with incredibly helpful graphics created by Carroll County, Maryland Commissioner Richard Rothschild.
In the booklet you will find answers to several roadblocks that grassroots anti-Agenda 21 activists often face, including a definition of property rights and "Resolution to Protect Citizens' Property Rights," which many concerned citizens are already using to tie the hands of power hungry politicians.

It includes all the information to put up a first line of defense and step by step instructions for how to proceed from there. If you face Agenda 21 or Sustainable development in your area or are simply concerned with the national fight this booklet is a must read.

GOP fast tracks bill to fortify ObamaCare's high-risk pools
Rep. Joe Pitts (R-Pa.),who leads the Energy and Commerce subcommittee on Health, slammed Obama late Monday for ignoring the letter.
"Sick Americans without insurance face lots of hurdles to find good coverage," said Pitts, lead sponsor on the new bill.
"Since the White House hasn't answered our appeal, we've introduced legislation that would ensure that Americans with pre-existing conditions can once again have access to this program," Pitts said in a statement.
The bill would use funds from health reform's Public Health and Prevention Fund to keep the PCIP open through the end of the year.
The so-called Gang of 8 Senators who have been working out a Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill behind closed doors is set to unveil their plan at any moment.
Eagle Forum can report that corporations are tripping over each other on Capitol Hill advocating for amnesty and its promises of cheap labor. Politicians eager to please corporations and to win votes claim that the Gang of 8's bill is necessary because America is facing a labor shortage.

Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions was right when he declared:

Three hours after yesterday's Boston Marathon Bombings, President Obama gave a short statement in which he pointedly declined to use the word "terrorism." Shortly after his appearance, an unnamed White House official issued a written statement "Any event with multiple explosive devices - as this appears to be - is clearly an act of terror, and will be approached as an act of terror." Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel echoed that this morning, calling the bombings a "cruel act of terror." This morning, Obama followed suit, specifically using the term "terrorism."
Presidents must choose their words carefully in these situations, and I do not fault Obama for moving with caution* just hours after the attack, when he undoubtedly had not had the time to gather the full input of all the relevant agencies or separate fact from rumor.** But he is right to call this what it is; as as we move forward, we must all have the courage and clarity to call this terrorism. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

As America mourns the deaths and catastrophic injuries from yesterday's terrorist attack in Boston, including the death of an eight year old boy, there are jihadists around the world who are hoping this was an act of jihad (see article below from the SITE monitoring service).
As of this writing, the closest thing to a suspect is a Saudi national who is here in America on a student visa. So at this time, while we wouldn't be surprised if this turned out to be an act of jihad, we just don't know for sure yet.
Yesterday, President Obama urged Americans not to jump to conclusions regarding who perpetrated this attack. Fair enough.
But if it turns out this was an act of jihadist terrorism, isn't it time President Obama and his administration stopped denying that jihad and radical Islam has anything to do with attacks like this?
After all, the jihadists don't hesitate to call it jihad.
Amidst ongoing media reports of two explosions in the American city of Boston, Massachusetts, near the finish line of the marathon race on April 15, 2013, jihadists expressed their joy and hoped the blasts are acts of jihadi terrorism.
One forum member noted that over a week ago, a jihadist announced his desire to plan bombings in the United States, but was chastised by others for revealing such a plot publicly. He is referring to a posting on the Ansar al-Mujahideen forum on April 1 in which a jihadist tried to recruit members for an attack similar in impact to al-Qaeda's 9/11 strikes, but seemed focused on the attack being a suicide bombing. In other posts responding to the explosions, on the Ansar al-Mujahideen, al-Fida' and Shumukh al-Islam forums, jihadists gave pictures circulated in the media of the aftermath, showing injured people and a bloody sidewalk, and some hoped more bombings will follow.
Administrators of Shumukh al-Islam, a top-tier jihadist forum and primary source for official messages from al-Qaeda, placed a two scrolling messages atop the forum, the first stating: "Urgent // Casualties and Injuries in an Explosion that Shook the US State of Boston, and a State of Panic and Chaos Spreads Across America in General," and the second giving an oft-repeated statement from former al-Qaeda leader Usama bin Laden: "I swear by Allah the Great, who raised the sky without pillars, that America and those who live in America will not dream of security until we live it as a reality in Palestine and until all the disbelieving armies are expelled from the land of Muhammad, Allah's peace and prayer be upon him."

Ricin letter sent to GOP Sen. Roger Wicker By Jordy Yager
A letter addressed to Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) tested positive for Ricin on Tuesday according to lawmakers.
U.S. Capitol Police intercepted the letter at an off-site postal screening center Tuesday morning and advised senators in the evening that none of their offices were in danger.

The White House has decided they are not sending any serving member of the administration to Margaret Thatcher's funeral tomorrow. It is important to note that this decision was made
, "Friends and allies of Baroness Thatcher expressed 'surprise and disappointment' last night as it emerged President Obama is not planning to send any serving member of his administration to her funeral."
"The White House has decided that they're not sending anybody to the funeral of Margaret Thatcher," Pat said exasperatedly.
"Other than the vice president," Stu interjected.
"No, not the vice president, or the secretary of state, or the undersecretary of state, or the secretary to the undersecretary," Pat responded.
"What about the general assistant," Stu asked.
"The assistant secretary to the general secretary to the undersecretary is also not going," Pat explained.
"Were there no flights," Stu questioned. "Can we check Orbitz? If we get on Orbitz I'm sure there's a way to see if there are any flights."
Washington is on high alert today, as are other major U.S. cities after the cowardly terrorist bombing at the Boston Marathon. As I write, three people are confirmed dead, over 170 wounded, 17 of them in critical condition. Reports indicate 25 to 30 individuals have lost limbs.
Many individuals had as many as 40 pieces of pellets and nails embedded in their bodies, indicating an intentional effort to cause widespread physical injury to as many people as possible. Authorities today reported that the bombs utilized pressure cookers, a common terrorist tactic throughout the Middle East as far back as 2006.
Our hearts and prayers are with the people of Boston, the victims of the attack and their families as they deal with this despicable act. If someone is looking for a "silver lining" in the midst of the ripped flesh and broken limbs, you can find it in the reaction of the people in the vicinity of the attack. By all accounts, law enforcement, medical personnel and ordinary citizens all rose to the occasion, providing treatment and comfort in the midst of the carnage.
Obama Chokes On "Terror" Word Again
President Obama made a public statement yesterday afternoon and promised justice would be done. But once again, just as he did after the Fort Hood shooting by jihadist Major Nidal Hasan and Benghazi, Obama notably did not describe the event as terrorism. Why on earth is he constantly reluctant to use the word? No matter who is found to be responsible, blowing up civilians obviously constitutes terrorism.
Fortunately, we don't have to speculate about his "phobia" of saying the word. Top Obama operative and former White House advisor David Axelrod explained Obama's mindset. Axelrod said:
"The word [terrorist] has taken on a different meaning since 9/11. You use those words and it means something very specific in people's mind. And I'm sure what was going through the president's mind is -- we really don't know who did this -- it was tax day. Was it someone who was pro -- you know, you just don't know. And so I think his attitude is, let's not put any interference into this, let's just make clear that we're going to get the people responsible."
In other words, Obama thinks the attack might have been from a right-wing anti-tax fanatic, but if the word "terrorism" were used it might cause people to jump to the conclusion it was done by radical Islamists.
Remember when New York's Mayor Bloomberg speculated that a car bomb found in Times Square was probably the work of a right-winger angry at Obamacare? Of course it wasn't. Just like the other 16 failed plots to attack New York, the car bomb was the work of a radical Muslim.
Feeling the heat overnight, Obama decided to make a statement this morning and did describe the bombing as "an act of terror." We don't know who is responsible for this attack, but the left's tendency (or is it hope?) to blame the right instead of jihadists is striking.
The Saudi Student
A 20 year-old Saudi national has been questioned after he was found near the scene of the bombing. Some reports suggest he was tackled after being run down by a citizen who felt he was acting suspiciously. The FBI searched his home this morning in Revere, Massachusetts, and were seen leaving with paper bags and a duffel bag.
At a press conference this morning, law enforcement officials refused to call the student a suspect. Fox News is reporting that the FBI is checking his visa status, history and group affiliations. I hasten to add that none of what we know as of now proves this man was involved.

...Former Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA), who used the carnage to speak out against tax cuts. "I never was as a member of Congress one of the cheerleaders for less government, lower taxes. No tax cut would have helped us deal with this or will help us recover," said Frank.
It's amazing, people are mourning the dead and having their legs amputated and the first thought on his mind is to make the case for big government -- except for the Pentagon. Frank tried for years to gut the Defense budget. In 2010, Frank teamed up with Ron Paul to push a plan that would have cut the Pentagon's budget by $1 trillion!
And on the right the Idiot Award goes to... the reporter affiliated with Alex Jones and Info Wars, where everything that happens is a government conspiracy. The reporter asked Boston officials, "Is this another false flag, staged attack to take away our civil liberties and promote homeland security?" Sigh.

Last night, 4/11/13, in a diatribe I feel was not new to O'Reilly, he actually postulated that gun registration of responsible citizens would reduce gun crime by criminals. Even when it was pointed out that none of the recent shootings would have been stopped by his dangerous sophomoric suggestion, he stood fast.
He points to Chicago, claiming gun registration would help, because if a criminal was caught in a(n unconstitutional) "stop and frisk" with an unregistered gun, they'd be charged. It's already illegal for these gangbangers to have guns. Laws won't work if not applied, and Chicago does not apply the laws already on the books (1). How would another law matter to people with no respect for the live's of others? Take the guns out of Chicago and every other progressive nightmare city and the death will go on.

Ongoing effective economic experiments among the 50 states are sharpening, and definitive results will pour out in the real world, editorial and opinion fallacies to the contrary notwithstanding. That sharpening is the result of the increasing political segregation among the states, with 25 now in complete control of Republicans in the Governor's office and in majorities in the state legislatures, and 15 in the same complete control by the Democrats.
That sharpening is further exacerbated by the overconfidence of so-called "progressives" in reaction to the election of 2012, which they are certain heralds the greening of America -- the abandonment by rising American majorities of the foundations of traditional American prosperity and success, in favor of European concepts of social justice and neo-Marxism. That overconfidence is leading the Democrat controlled states to embrace more radical left nostrums.

A couple of weeks ago, Black Entertainment Television founder Bob Johnson, speaking at The National Press Club, said the nation "would never tolerate white unemployment at 14 and 15 percent." Black unemployment has been double that of white Americans for more than 50 years. The black youth unemployment rate is more than 40 percent nationally. In some cities, unemployment for black working-age males is more than 50 percent. Let's look at this, but first let's look at some history.
From 1900 to 1954, blacks were more active than whites in the labor market. Until about 1960, black male labor force participation in every age group was equal to or greater than that of whites. During that period, black teen unemployment was roughly equal to or less than white teen unemployment. As early as 1900, the duration of black unemployment was 15 percent shorter than that of whites; today it's about 30 percent longer. To do something about today's employment picture requires abandonment of sacred cows and honesty.

The biggest political problem faced by so-called "liberals" and so-called "progressives" in President Obama's second term is how to prevent voters from holding them politically responsible as the public comes to realize how badly they were lied to during the first Obama term to win passage of Obamacare.
Most supporters of Obamacare embraced it because of a principled belief that everyone should have access to essential healthcare. But even the establishment, still Democrat dominated, CBO admits that after 10 years of implementation, Obamacare will still leave 30 million uninsured.
Beating up on California these days is easier than snatching lunch money from the pocket protector of a skinny near-sighted kid. But why should Victor Davis Hanson have all the fun? And besides, now that I'm back in my home state after a decade away, the decay is palpable, like roads suffering from obvious "deferred maintenance" to unfinished housing tracts, etc.

So what are the main problems facing California right now? If you're the ex-Governator, it's-wait for it now-climate change! Ah-nold calls it California's "silent disaster," and it is nice of him to help us distinguish it from the very noisy and visible disaster that was his governorship. Can't he just stick with making saggy superhero movies? (I mean, have you seen those surreptitious National Enquirer photos of what he looks like these days with his shirt off? He needs more chest prosthetics these days than Riccardo Montalban in The Wrath of Khan.)
What's the next biggest problem? Well duh, climate change again: according to a new study, climate change is going to wipe out California's wine industry:
Researchers found the area suitable for wine production will shrink by as much as 73 percent by 2050 in certain parts of the globe - about 70 percent in California - with high potential for stress on rivers and other freshwater ecosystems as vineyards use water to cool grapes or irrigate to compensate for rising temperatures and declining rainfall.
Now, it's perfectly obvious that the authors of this study know next to nothing about California wine regions, or how the stuff is actually grown. Here in nearby Paso Robles, the daily diurnal temperature swing is one of the largest in the world; changes in the range (unlikely in any case) will scarcely affect them, or similar regions in the state. In fact, it is the diurnal range that contributes to the richness of many California wines. But I expect these researchers must be drinking Ripple while they worked on this study.
Well, at least California remains Number One in a few categories, as David Davenport reminds us at Forbes.com:
Highest taxes (gasoline, sales and top bracket of income taxes)
Lowest bond rating
Highest poverty rate (at 23.5%, the home of 1/3 of those in poverty in U.S.)
Highest unemployment rate (tied with Mississippi and Nevada at 9.6%)
Highest energy costs
Worst state to do business (as judged by Chief Executive magazine 8 years running)
Most cities going bankrupt
Prison system so poorly run it has been taken over by a federal judge
Well, I'm sure we can look forward to high-speed rail getting the state back on track. What's that? No? You don't say! From the latest report of Wendell Cox, Joe Vranich, and Adrian Moore at the Reason Foundation:
Current plans are now identified as "Phase 1 Blended," which the CHSRA estimates will cost as much as $63.2 billion in 2011 inflation-adjusted dollars ($78.0 billion in year-of-expenditure dollars) with the only sources of funding being $9 billion in California Proposition 1A general obligation bonds and $3.5 billion in federal grants. Further funding is highly speculative if not outright non-existent for the remaining capital needed, which may exceed $50 billion.
Don't worry. I'm sure another tax hike on top income earners can pay for it.
P.S. Almost forgot: California's state Senate voted last week to prohibit fracking for oil and natural gas. So the state that perhaps has the largest shale deposits in the nation has looked at the prosperity new oil and gas production has brought to North Dakota, Texas, and western Pennsylvania, and said, "Nah-not interested. We like staying poor and unemployed in the central valley."
The Washington Post offers some fluffy reporting about Sen. Marco Rubio's participation in the Gang of Eight. We learn that Rubio was first approached by Sen. Durbin, his workout partner, in the Senate's members only gym early one December morn.
We learn that Rubio was added to the "Gang" after Senate Majority Leader McConnell made it clear to Sens. McCain and Graham that Rubio's participation would be crucial to winning conservative support. Thanks, Mitch.
We learn that Rubio and Sen. Schumer talked on the phone in March after Rubio denied Schumer's suggestion that the Gang had reached final agreement. It seems that Schumer's feelings were hurt.
Beyond the fluff and the pseudo-drama, we learn one important thing: when Gang members reached out to other key conservatives interested in immigration reform, they were rebuffed because of the Gang's insistence on granting illegal aliens a path to citizenship.
Thus, we learn that "Graham and McCain initially attempted to recruit conservative Sen. Mike Lee, but he declined to endorse a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants." Similarly, Rubio "spent a lot of time discussing his ideas with Rep. Raul R. Labrador, a fellow tea party conservative and Latino who did not support giving citizenship to undocumented residents."
It is at the path to citizenship, then, where Rubio parts company with other solid conservatives who believe in some form of significant immigration reform legislation. And so it is here that Rubio must explain himself.
But it is here that Rubio seems most reluctant to explain. He talks about how we already have de facto amnesty, about how we need more legal immigrants, and so forth. But Sen. Lee, Rep. Labrador, and many other conservatives agree with Rubio on these points. They just think a path to citizenship is a bridge too far.
In this context, to talk about de facto amnesty, the need for more legal immigrants, etc. is evasion and smoke-screen. Why does Rubio support a path to citizenship? Does he believe that illegal aliens are entitled to become U.S. citizens? Or does he believe they are not, but is willing to cave in order to obtain the supposed other benefits of immigration reform?
On Sunday, I wrote about Matt Latimer's misuse of Margaret Thatcher to further his view that contemporary Republicans are unwilling to entertain and appreciate thoughtful dissent. Today, I want to add a comment about one of the examples of alleged Republican intolerance cited by Latimer.
What a contrast [Thacher and Reagan were] to the so-called conservative GOP that followed them. A few years later, when Buckley questioned the wisdom of the Iraq war and George W. Bush's 2008 surge, he was all but drummed out of the conservative movement. "If you had a European prime minister who experienced what we've experienced, it would be expected that he would retire or resign," Buckley once said of Bush. For such apostasies, Bush aides threatened to ban Buckley from the radio airwaves. (I know because I was there.)
But Buckley made the comment Latimer quotes in February 2009, by which point the Bush administration was out of power and unable to "ban" anyone from the radio airwaves. Nor does Latimer explain how, even while Bush was in office, his aides could have banned Buckley from the air. I don't see how they could have, and I doubt that anyone seriously contemplated the attempt.
Moreover, by the time of the surge (which occurred in 2007, not 2008 - how did that get by the Washington Post fact-checkers?), the Bushies had no ability to "drum" anyone, much less Buckley, "out of the conservative movement." By then, Bush was essentially a lame duck president who had been repudiated by the voters in the 2006 elections and in the polls.
At this point, if anyone was drumming someone out of the conservative movement, it was Buckley drumming out Bush. The article Latimer cites regarding Buckley is called "Buckley: Bush Not A True Conservative."
Generally speaking, conservatives are better served by commentary that focuses on the merits of particular policy disputes than by commentary that stridently calls foul on those with whom one disagrees for being too strident. If someone truly crosses a line, it's worth pointing that out. But one should do so with more specificity and, more plausibility, than Latimer has done.
When a liberal hack wins the Pulitzer for commentary or editorial cartoons or news coverage promoting the left-wing party line, it is full of sound and fury signifying nothing but the left's domination of the institutions conferring recognition and renown. When a conservative of some stripe wins a Pulitzer, it suggests (to me) that his or her undeniable excellence has overcome the resistance of the judges.
Such is the case, I believe, with the award of the Pulitizer Prize for commentary yesterday to the Wall Street Journal's Global View columnist Bret Stephens. The New York Times's Tom Friedman needs no help from Stephens in looking like a pitiful fool, but Stephens makes even more sophisticated liberals like the Washington Post's David Ignatius look silly by contrast.
The Journal has posted Paul Gigot's nominating letter and the selection of Stephens's weekly 2012 Global View columns submitted to the Pulitzer judges here. In tribute to Stephens, Commentary has posted a selection of Stephens's writing that it has published over the last several years. "These articles," writes Jonathan Tobin, "like his award-winning columns in the Journal, speak to the breadth of his expertise and to the brilliance of his thinking." (Beware the incessant Dove ad that descends after accessing the post.)
Like pretty much everyone who writes opinion columns, I hope that people will read what I write and look at things differently as a result. It happens, sometimes. But very few have the impact of Kirsten Powers' column on the murder trial of Pennsylvania abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell that ran in these pages last week.
Before Powers' column, the case wasn't on the national radar. Oh, it was getting attention from pro-life writers, conservative media critics, and law bloggers, but in terms of national media, the story didn't exist. It wasn't on the national radar until Powers' column opened with this: "Infant beheadings. Severed baby feet in jars. A child screaming after it was delivered alive during an abortion procedure. Haven't heard about these sickening accusations? It's not your fault. Since Gosnell's trial began March 18, there has been precious little coverage of the case that should be on every news show and front page."
Glenn's column is characteristically perceptive and full of links in its online version. As with everything he writes, from one sentence squibs at InstaPundit to columns to law review articles and books, the whole thing is worth reading.
Glenn notes in passing the argument advanced by some in defense of the silence of the mainstream media: "In response some are noting that conservative media outlets like the Weekly Standard weren't exactly providing page-one coverage, and there's some truth to that." This may be true in some sense, but I don't think it is fair with respect to conservative flagships such as the Standard and National Review.
I first became aware of the Gosnell case through Joseph Bottum's February 2011 Weekly Standard article "To live and die in Philadelphia" and Clarke Forsythe's January 2011 Weekly Standard online column "The Supreme Court's back alley runs through Philadelphia."The Standard's archive on Gosnell can be accessed in its entirety here. I believe that, like the Standard's, National Review's coverage of the case goes back at least to January 2011, in an editorial devoted to the case ("Ho-hum horror"), quoted here.

After yesterday's tragic explosions in Boston, Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint offered these words on behalf of the entire Heritage staff:
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Boston Marathon explosion victims and their families. Thanks to the police, fire fighters, and other public servants courageously responding to the dangerous scene.
"America is at its best when it faces adversity with courage, confidence, and determination," Heritage Foundation homeland security expert James Carafano writes in today's Morning Bell.
He continues:
A security professional knows what to do first: Take care of the injured, protect the responders and bystanders who are racing to the scene to help (who can often be the target of follow-on attacks), and preserve the evidence available at the scene. Those efforts appear well underway. We should be proud of the responders and the citizens of Boston.
Our assessments and speculation on what to do next should not outpace what we know. Even very authoritative-sounding reports issued from the scene or shared by on-scene reporters or witnesses may turn out to be inaccurate. That has already proven the case in Boston with conflicting reports on the number of explosions, claims of suspects in custody, and statements about unexploded devices being recovered.
In cases such as this, officials often can garner a tremendous amount of evidence from the crime scene in the first 72 hours. In such investigations, you start with the evidence and that leads to suspects, not the other way around.
While we should boost security at future events like the upcoming marathon in Pittsburgh, we should also be aware that no measures are foolproof, Carafano argues. "The best security, if this is confirmed as a coordinated, predetermined act, is to stop the perpetrators before they undertake their attacks."
More importantly, we should show our love and support for the victims of this cowardly act.
"For now, we should all stand with Boston," Carafano says. "We should all show the world that today we will get up unafraid, and America will step forward into the day."

Law enforcement in other communities may want to take additional precautions. Pittsburg, for example, has a citywide marathon coming up in a few weeks. That might be prudent. Any additional security after an event like this, however, should be based on professional assessments of risk and any intelligence that is available. America's enemies can't be everywhere.
Protecting large public events is the most difficult of public safety challenges. Further, these gatherings are most vulnerable to exactly the kind of incident that occurred in Boston. That said, the reasonable public safety precautions that can be taken to thwart them are well known. After the fact, it will have to be determined if these were properly taken.
Unfortunately, such measures-even if fully implemented-cannot perfectly safeguard such large crowds. The best security, if this is confirmed as a coordinated, predetermined act, is to stop the perpetrators before they undertake their attacks.
Bringing perpetrators to justice, preventing further attacks, and learning lessons from this incident on how to prevent or respond to future incidents will come in time. For now, we should all stand with Boston. We should all show the world that today will we get up unafraid, and America will step forward into the day.
New Budget, Same Schemes
The President's 2014 budget arrived last week... 2 months late. His budget does not balance and never will, relies on punitive tax hikes, and yet again features more new spending. From taxes to entitlements, from defense to economic policy, Heritage experts analyze it line-by-line.
$1.1 Trillion Tax Increase in Obama Budget There was little doubt President Obama would propose another huge tax hike. It is surprising, however, that the total tax increase he proposes is almost double what he claims it to be. What new and higher taxes are in the Obama Budget?
President Obama claims $1.8 trillion in additional deficit reduction, including a $600 billion tax increase. But what his budget actually does is cancel sequestration's spending cuts-therefore raising spending-by the same amount that he reduces spending. When that's done, all that's left is a $1.1 trillion tax hike.
When you know you're right, it's important to have the courage of your convictions. Throughout her life, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher knew that her ideas were correct. And, in matters large and small, she dared to stand up for her beliefs. One of the most humorous examples of Thatcher's resolve was captured near the end of an obscure TV interview with a Swedish journalist.
A key reason the United States has been so successful across the centuries is that our immigration policy has done more than simply welcome in foreigners; it's made them into Americans. But assimilation is difficult to legislate, and it probably won't be a major part of the "comprehensive" immigration reform that the latest Senate "Gang" is expected to unveil.
Americans remember Thomas Jefferson for his writing and his leadership. But while he drafted the Declaration of Independence, served as a governor, and became the third president of the United States, Jefferson was also an early proponent of what's come to be called school choice. And many of his ideas would still work well in our time.

Oppose Schumer-Toomey-Manchin
This week, the Senate will cast a crucial vote on the so-called Schumer-Toomey-Manchin gun control bill. The bill, drafted behind closed doors, will infringe on your Second Amendments rights and would do little to prevent tragedies such as Newtown.
Schumer-Toomey-Manchin also weakens existing privacy protection for the mental health information of individuals. When it comes to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), the bill would leave Attorney General Eric Holder - yes, that Eric Holder - to determine which privacy protections remain.
The political Left is trying to chip away, one bill at a time, at our Second Amendment Rights. Politicians in Washington need to hear from you, not the media elites, that the Schumer-Toomey-Manchin bill is unacceptable.

Doesn't matter what day this attack fell on, the MSM was going to find a way to blame this on the right. According to multiple reports, the first of which came from the New York Post, there is no clear suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing, but there could be a person of interest: a 20-year-old Saudi national here on a student visa.
