The Moral Foundations of Society

by MARGARET THATCHER

History has taught us that freedom cannot long survive unless it is based on moral foundations. The American founding bears ample witness to this fact. America has become the most powerful nation in history, yet she uses her power not for territorial expansion but to perpetuate freedom and justice throughout the world.

Right Side News

NoKo-a-NoGo

America is on the brink of World War III, but seems to be more concerned with Beyonce and her Cuban exploits (she's a Marxist elitistist - what do nk1you expect?), than impending nuclear annihilation. Bread and Circuses for allOooh! Look, shiny...

Over the years, North Korea, since the last conflict with South Korea, has blustered and threatened on a continual basis. It has been a ploy to get money and support out of the U.S. and the U.N. and has worked time and again.

This time is different. Kim Jong Il, who masterfully played the U.S. for time, money and food, is now dead. His son, Kim Jong Un now rules with an iron fist and has ratcheted up the rhetoric and threats. So much so, that I don't see him backing down without at least attacking South Korea. He can't afford to lose face.

North Korea is capable of attacking our troops stationed over in South Korea and firing nuclear missiles at the U.S. And he has threatened just that.

To openly threaten a country with a nuclear attack, in my book, is an act of war. But here we sit, listening to the crickets, biding our time and the North Koreans aren't exactly shaking in their jackboots.

North Korea's Army is currently the fifth largest in the world. Let that sink in. Here are the top 10 currently:

1. United States
2. China
3. Russia
4. India

5. North Korea
6. Turkey
7. France
8. Iran

9. Pakistan

10. United Kingdom

I would argue that China has a larger force than we do, but I'll let that slide for now. The Korean People's Army includes five branches of service: ground force, navy, air force, special operations and strategic missile force. Its military is huge with over one million on active duty. Combined with their staggering reserve force of over eight million, it has the largest military in the world. So, when the NoKo turkeys make nuclear threats, show a little respect. They just might mean it. They truly hate America and blame her for all their ills. And although South Korea is our ally, we are widely hated there as well by many of the people we are protecting. Sounds a lot like the Middle East.

America's Foes Call Obama's Bluff

Obama, Kerry and Hagel thought that they had a plan for putting North Korea back in the box. North Korea had conducted a nuclear test in February, violating once again the various understandings that had been worked out. But agreements and understandings, written or oral, had never meant much to the repressive regime which had suspended the Armistice Agreement that ended the Korean War numerous times-including last month.

So Obama decided to wave a stick. The playbook for North Korea would feature flights by B-2 and B-52 bombers and F-22 fighter jets to remind the North Korean military that it was no match for Uncle Sam.

A month after Obama's victory, Park Geun Hye of the Grand National Party had won South Korea's presidential election. The Grand National Party is conservative and Hye's mother was murdered by a North Korean assassin. Hye ran on a platform of conciliation, but her rhetoric of peace was wrapped in a concise message that warned North Korea that if it attacked then it would be made to "suffer the costs of provocation."

Two weeks before her inauguration, North Korea carried out its underground nuclear test sending the region into a panic. The timing was almost certainly deliberate. For her inauguration, the first female president of South Korea wore an olive green jacket with gold buttons that had a distinctly military look to it and her message to North Korea warned that its nuclear ambitions would turn it into its own biggest victim. The quote had the perfect sort of ambiguity that could be read as empathy in the West and a threat in the East.

Hye's victory neatly matched up with Abe's victory in Japan. Both South Korea and Japan were under the leadership of conservative governments. Hye was the daughter of her country's former military dictator. Abe had spoken of rebuilding Japan's military into a force to be reckoned with. On the other side of the board, China had turned toward its own hard line leadership.

Obama's pivot to Asia was a belated recognition that a power vacuum had formed and was being filled by growing militarization on all sides.

Japan and South Korea had little confidence that the United States could continue to maintain stability. China was shoving the United States out of the way and blatantly threatening traditional American allies like the Republic of the Philippines. And North Korea was pushing every red line that could be imagined.

Toward the end of January, North Korea declared that its nuclear program was aimed at America. The era of ambiguity was over. North Korea was defining itself as a nuclear power in a new MAD stalemate.

Glenn Beck

Terrifying MSNBC promo: Your kids belong to the collective

For months, Glenn has been warning that the progressives would eventually just stop hiding their agenda and just come out and admit their radical goals. Well, thanks to MSNBC the progressive agenda became exposed more to the mainstream. It's not a parody and it's not a sketch: Melissa Harris-Perry actually said in an approved promo for the network that children don't belong to their families, they belong to the collective.

"It is so far beyond what we have ever thought as a nation, it's remarkable," Glenn said.

"This is something that people thought about. This is something that everybody worked on. This is something that everybody got together and filmed," he added.

In the video, Harris-Perry said:

We have never invested as much in public education as we should have because we've always had kind of a private notion of children. Your kid is yours and totally your responsibility. We haven't had a very collective notion of these are our children. So part of it is we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families and recognize that kids belong to whole communities.

"There it is.  Finally somebody has come out and said it," Glenn said.

Glenn explained that many parents will fall in line with this rhetoric as they seek to shift the responsibility of raising their children from themselves onto others.

He also said that it makes no sense to spend more money on public education when it has spectacularly failed so poorly for years and years. He likened it to  basketball coach who would be fired if he couldn't produce results, not be given more money to fail over and over again.

Watch the clip and see Glenn's spot on response.

Gun Owners of America

CGOBC Gun Control can be Passed Only
If Republicans Sell Out

Tell them Gun Owners oppose "universal" background checks

"Gun-control measures that seemed destined to become law after the school shootings in Newtown, Conn., are in jeopardy amid a fierce lobbying campaign by firearms advocates."
          - The Washington Post, April 1, 2013

We realize that you have been receiving several emails from Gun Owners of America in recent days. And while we apologize for filling your inbox so frequently, we hope you realize that we are in an all-out fight to stop Congress from infringing upon our liberties.

Your activism is making a difference, but we need to keep the pressure on!

As so, as we approach "gun control Armageddon" next week, we are faced, not surprisingly, with "sell-outs and rumors of sell-outs."

But we can conclude that all gun control will die UNLESS Republicans flinch. And this is why, now that anti-gun Senator Chuck Schumer is on the verge of a humiliating defeat, he's scrambling for some feckless Republican who will help him turn GOP victory into GOP defeat.

Anti-gun columnist Ruth Marcus spoke for Schumer last Wednesday morning when she suggested that, as a desperation measure, anti-gunners might have to drop recordkeeping from the universal registry bill.

But even if ALL recordkeeping were dropped, which is doubtful, background checks would mean that:

  • Americans would still have to get the government's permission to own a firearm from whatever source.
  • Americans in rural areas without access to the Internet could be barred from gun ownership.
  • The Brady Check system would break down on weekends even more often than it currently does.
  • Eight percent of all applicants would still be illegally denied the right to purchase firearms through "false negatives."
  • Schumer would still claim that he "broke the back of the gun lobby."
  • The universal registry bill would still be nothing but a vehicle for consideration of other gun control now - and a platform for gun control demands in the future.

The solution to all of this is easy, and it's for Senators to support the Paul-Cruz-Lee filibuster! Tell them not to let Congress sidle up to the gun control buffet and to defeat the motion to proceed to gun control.

ACTION: Click here to contact your Senators. Demand they support the Paul-Cruz-Lee filibuster and oppose the motion to proceed to any gun control vehicle.

The system will automatically select a pre-written editable response, depending upon whether your Senator is a Republican or Democrat.

Your Property Rights at Risk!

Please join us and guest speaker John Anthony, founder of the Sustainable Freedom Lab.

On Wednesday April 10 @ 7PM
John Anthony will explain how across the country our rights to personal property - land, homes, privacy - are at greater risk than ever.

Plans and ordinances approved in our region could take control of your own property out of your hands!  You worry about your mortgage while politicians and bureaucrats consider policies that will slash the value of your property!

Have you ever wonder where the words Sustainable or Agenda 21 originated, then this is the meeting for you.  Find out about the plan that is intended to take away the rights and liberties of all Americans.  Currently the push is to institute a global tax (Carbon tax) and make the UN the global IRS.

If you think this is not possible, I challenge you to find out the real truth.  There are many counties and townships in our area that have already signed up and are involved, including the borough of West Chester.  Some municipalities in Maryland have fought and have won their way out of the program.

Seating is limited, so RSVP at rsvp@westchesterteaparty.com

VALLEY FORGE PATRIOTS APRIL MEETING

FRIDAY, APRIL 12, 6pm AT PJ RYANS

BRIDGE ST. PHOENIXVILLE

  •
  •          We will have an organizational meeting with members. The VFP wants to talk with our members to review how the organization is structured, what kind of help we need to be successful and to discuss our plans for 2013. We also need to discuss meeting location(s) and what amenities you want.

There will be no formal speakers, however, Paula Stiles will fill us in on the latest with Smart Meters and state legislation dealing with them.

We really need your thoughts and ideas about how you want your organization to function and what you think we should focus on. We have learned that we can't do everything because there is so much going on at all levels. We must focus on a few most important issues.

Should we work on projects at the local level, the state level, and/or the federal level? Or, should we pick several focal points that could be worked on at all levels? Voter ID would be one of these issues. Should the VFP continue its legislator visit program. This would be another program that would involve all levels of government. How about UN Agenda 21? School Board?

The VFP Steering Committee wants your ideas, your help, and your involvement in continuing to make our programs successful.

PLEASE COME OUT AND JOIN IN THE DISCUSSION!

P.S. Since we are having the meeting at a commercial establishment, and since the room is free, we are expected to buy our food and drink at PJ Ryans. No outside food or drink please.

FrackNation Screenings in PA

Fracnation

FrackNation is a documentary on hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and the natural gas boom in the US and abroad. FrackNation shows how unfounded opposition to fracking is damaging the lives of some of the poorest and hardest working people in America. FrackNation dispels myths and tells the story of the people directly affected by fracking bans.

Fraknation FrackNation premiered January 22, 2013 on Mark Cuban's AXS TV. The New York Times called the film "meticulously researched...provocative." And Variety said it was a "briskly paced...mischievous pic."

The film was created and directed by the husband and wife team of Phelim McAleer and the always outrageous Ann McElhinney. Ann will be speaking on April 20th at the upcoming PA Leadership Conference. DVDs of the film will be available for purchase at the PA Coalition booth at PLC

Phelim will be touring Pennsylvania for a series of screenings across the Commonwealth. Listed below are venues and dates for screenings in April. Additional screenings are planned for May including one in the Pittsburgh area. CUFI Sunday

We are excited to announce that the fifth annual Christians United for Israel Sunday will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2013.

We are so blessed that over the last four years thousands of churches in over 60 countries have stood in solidarity with Israel through CUFI Sunday. From the largest cities to the smallest towns, from mega churches in the American heartland to underground churches in China, Christians have come together to express their love and support for Israel.

We pray that your church will participate in the fifth annual CUFI Sunday on May 5, 2013. CUFI will provide you with all the materials you need to implement a successful CUFI Sunday, including videos, literature and Pastor John Hagee's personal sermon notes for your use.

Please click hereto participate in CUFI Sunday. As you'll see, you don't have to be a pastor to ensure that your church stands with Israel on CUFI Sunday.

The date we've chosen for CUFI Sunday -- May 5th -- is close to Israeli Independence Day.  As the Jewish State celebrates her 65th birthday, there is no better present we can send than the news of thousands of churches standing in solidarity with her!

We look forward to uniting in action and prayer on behalf of Israel with you and your congregation on May 5, 2013.

May God Bless You and Those that You Love,

Pastor John Hagee
National Chairman

Brigitte Gabriel to Speak
in Baltimore, MD!

Brigitte Gabriel

Leading Global Islamic Terrorism Expert

CLICK HERE to view Brigitte's special video invitation!

It is my privilege to invite you to a special event featuring Brigitte Gabriel, Founder and President of ACT! for America. This event is free and open to the public and will be held at the following:

Central Christian

7411 Rossville Blvd.
Baltimore, MD 21237
Monday, May 6th at 7 pm

Ms. Gabriel will speak on the rise of Islamic radicalism in your community and in our nation. Her story of survival as a persecuted Christian living in a bomb shelter for 7 years will have you captivated and inspired! She will share how the events of 9/11 compelled her to start ACT! for America, the largest national security grassroots organization in the U.S.

The recent assaults at our embassies have been a sobering wake-up call to America. The lesson is that we should be displaying strength to our enemies, not appeasement which only demonstrates our weakness. Without question, the threats of radical Islam to America have increased.

These are just some of the threats Brigitte will discuss:

  • Suppression of criticism of Islam
  • Homegrown jihad
  • Terrorists infiltrating our borders

Announcing the 2013 National Conference

& Legislative Briefing!

June 19 - 21 we will convene at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC for our fourth annual National Conference & Legislative Briefing.

And here's some really great news: This year's registration fee is only $229! Register by April 15th and you'll receive our "Early Bird" rate of just $189!

We also offer again this year special benefits for Patriot Eagle and Patriot sponsors.

We have some exciting new wrinkles planned for this year's event, and our list of confirmed speakers already includes:

  • Steven Emerson - Journalist, author, and the Executive Editor of the Investigative Project on Terrorism. A. M. Rosenthal, late-managing editor of The New York Times, described Emerson as "one of the nation's best national security correspondents."
  • John Guandolo - Former FBI agent and one of America's leading authorities on the Muslim Brotherhood and its inner workings in America. Guandolo spoke at our conference in 2011 and received rave reviews from conference attendees!
  • Ezra Levant - Canadian lawyer, author, newspaper columnist with Sun Media, and former publisher of the Western Standard. Hauled before a Canadian "human rights commission" because he published the Danish cartoons that satirized Muhammad, Levant's personal account of a politically correct government inquisition is something you won't want to miss!

The National Conference & Legislative Briefing will begin on Wed. evening, June 19th, and conclude on Friday, June 21st at noon, with additional optional training sessions Friday afternoon.

It will again feature our very popular Capitol Hill Awards Luncheon and our signature gala banquet-and of course, our Legislative Briefing, where Members of Congress will brief you on various issues and answer your questions.

Go online here to reserve your hotel room at our special discounted rate of $239 per night, or call 800.843.6664.

So make your plans now to join us in our nation's capital for what promises to be our best National Conference & Legislative Briefing ever!

More details to come!

As Israelis celebrate their 65th Independence Day this year, we should all take time out to reflect on the miracle of Israel's independence. We must also ask ourselves the question, "What can I do to ensure that this miracle of Israel survives and thrives?"

2013 RedState Gathering -- Early Bird Special

Dear RedStater,

We announced earlier this week that we'll be headed to New Orleans the first weekend in August for this year's RedState Gathering. As a member of our RedState family, we'd like to extend exclusive Early Bird registration and pricing to you (just use the promo code EARLYBIRD on the registration page).

The 2013 RedState Gathering will be held August 2-3 at the Westin Canal Place in New Orleans, LA. We'll have two full days of speakers and activities and you can expect a good mix of elected officials and potential candidates for the 2014 cycle (we'll keep you informed as additions are made).

The Gathering has always been a unique event, in that all speakers, even the most in-demand and influential, pay their own way and make their own travel arrangements. This helps keep our costs low, a savings we are happy to pass along to our conference attendees. Additionally, we strive to get you up close to the speakers, ask them to take your questions, and we take care of nearly all your meals during the conference. Bottom line: fewer frills, more thrills and access.

We are thrilled to once again be joined by Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, who will be hosting a reception for all attendees and appear at the Gathering podium as a keynote speaker. A huge hit in 2012, we're looking forward to Gov. Jindal playing an even larger role this year as he welcomes us to his home state.

Now, more than ever, true conservative activists must come together to exchange ideas and strategize for the future. That's what this year's Gathering is all about. We hope you'll join us.

Click here to learn more and register.

Sincerely,

Erick Erickson
Editor-in-Chief, RedState

P.S. Don't delay! You'll receive 20% off if you register today - just use the promo code EARLYBIRD. Click here.

The 912 Gazette

From a trusted friend:

As some of you may know, I am associated with Coventry Christian Schools as a parent of a graduate (2010) and as member of the Board of Trustees.   Last October we spent a wonderful evening honoring Mark Niehls at our revitalized Founder's Dinner and celebrated our shared heritage in the remarkable community that is Coventry Christian Schools. Our vision for future Founder's Dinners is to inspire and inform not only our alumni and current CCS families but to inspire and inform the Tri-County Area and even our region by hosting speakers and artists who can uniquely assist us in celebrating the heritage, core values, and mission of CCS while also lifting our vision for an even greater future built upon the foundation of our past. The caliber of our speakers and guest artists should provide us with wonderful opportunities to share our CCS story with new partners in Christian education. Proceeds from the dinner will be applied to our annual Coventry Kids Fund for CCS scholarships.

This year we are proud to announce that our distinguished guest and speaker is Dr. Benjamin Carson, and our dinner's theme is "Faith of Our Fathers: The Role of Faith in American Schools." Please join us as we welcome Dr. Carson to the Tri-County Area and celebrate the great things God is doing at CCS!

Dr. Carson is a highly regarded neurosurgeon and motivational speaker who has addressed various audiences across the country. He is one of the most honored and recognized physicians in the world and holds more than 60 honorary doctorate degrees along with hundreds of awards and citations. He is a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States. He is the author of five books and is the founder of the Carson Scholars Fund. The 2009 award-winning movie entitled Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. as Carson, premiered on TNT and is based on his memoir. Dr. Carson is an authentic disciple of Christ, has been married to his wife Candy for more than 37 years, and is the father of three sons.

The 2013 Founder's Dinner, which will once again be a part of our Homecoming festivities, will be held at the historic Sunnybrook Ballroom in Pottstown on Sunday, October 13th, 2013. Doors will open at 4:30pm, followed by dinner at 5:15. Dress will be business/professional.    Tickets will be priced at $100 until May 15th, then will be $125, so reserve your tickets for the reduced price.

Due to Dr. Carson's international reputation and recent prominence in the media, including his recent speech at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast, we fully anticipate that this event will sell out quickly once advertised to the public. Tickets go on sale to the public April 15.   If you are interested in attending, tickets can be purchased online.  I will send the link out to those who wish to go on April 15

th

.  While online reservations are preferred because they facilitate efficient event planning, you may also complete a paper order form, which I can forward to you as well.

All of us at Coventry Christian Schools, look forward to sharing this very special evening with you and acquainting you with the school and its mission!

Blessings,

Christine Gordon

Siren

Hi All - I just spoke w/ Lisa  Lnancollas@aol.com  (717 437 1327)  who lives in Lewistown, Pa and is majorly involved in fighting the smart meters............and it's more than just electric, it's water, furnaces/ac's and wells too

We need to share this information.  I asked her if she'd speak to groups in our area and she said yes, but would like to include Mike Reese who's written several bills that we want to get out of committee and approved:

HB 899

HB 902

HB 906

She indicated we should all

1.   put locks & belts on our meters (see how at www.refusesmartmeters.com)

2.   signs in our yards saying NO SMART METERS......put them around like election signs

3.   Let our State Reps know how you feel  ie Warren Kampf....tell him you're in favor of the bills against smart meters

4.   Do neighbor alerts........call your neighbors if you see trucks coming into the area

5.   Write letters to the editors....remember if they get several letters, they're more likely to put at least one in.....educate the public

6.   Prepare handouts

7.   Send certified letter to electric company and get return receipt of name of person who signed for it

Be aware:

Water Smart Meters.........(IF YOU LET THEM IN, you're giving permission.)  YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LET THEM IN

Well Smart Meters......are coming and will limit the amount of water you use.

If you get someone knocking on your door asking if you want to save money on your heat/ac, do not say yes or they'll put a clip on your unit that will limit your usage of air conditioning.  The fan will work, but your usage will be CONTROLLED.

IF you get a new wall mount (thermostat & it may be required w/ a new ac unit because of the wiring) for your AC  DO NOT GET ONE WITH A GPS in it........there is a cheaper model that has no GPS........ask questions BEFORE you start or consider any changes!!!!!!!!

Important Announcement from SFL

Across America, state and local officials are writing bills and resolutions to protect citizen's from Agenda 21's policies. Because many people do not recognize Agenda 21 in action, property owners still remain at risk.

To help officials recognize Agenda 21's footprint, SFL created a document in a Q&A format that answers:

  • How do I know Agenda 21 exists in the U.S.?
  • What does Agenda 21 have to do with sustainable development?
  • What is wrong with the Brundtland Commission's definition of sustainable development?
  • How do I know the UN's sustainable development is the same one in our community?
  • I thought sustainable development is good, what makes you think it is so bad?
  • How can something like this happen in America?
  • How will I recognize Agenda 21?

The document has a lot more information for community members and officials, including a brief history of Agenda 21 and actions to take to have safe planning without top-down intervention.

You can download the complete document, "Help Public Officials Recognize Agenda 21."

Here is an excerpt to cut, paste and share:

5 Ways Agenda 21 Enters Your Community

Grant monies:

  • Grants issued in conjunction with government 'sustainability initiatives' contain stipulations or implementation practices that are the primary doorway for Agenda 21/sustainable development to enter your community. These stipulations often require no growth boundaries, income integration through low-income housing demands, reduced vehicle usage, healthy cities, livability principles and other forms of social engineering.
  • Other grants issued by non-profit groups such as the Packard, Pew or Carnegie Foundations, frequently promote Agenda 21. Often this happens when HUD or some other federal agency funds the foundation with the money they in turn offer as a sustainability-related grant.

Non-governmental organizations:

  • Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) including ICLEI, the Nature Conservancy, American Farmland Trust and the American Planning Association have close ties to HUD-EPA-DOT sustainability initiatives and promote Agenda 21 through their regional and community work, conservation easements and funding.

Federal agencies:

  • Federal agency Acts including the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act and Endangered Species Act have so expanded, that individual's rights are losing way to unfounded and often exaggerated endangerment findings. The solutions to their findings invariably require fines, taxes, property rights' infringements or the outright transfer of private lands to the government.
  • Preservation programs, National Parks, Historic Places and Byways, Heritage Sites and Legacy Forest programs have exceeded prudent land and species' protection and are now confiscating massive quantities of the U.S. land mass in alignment with Agenda 21 principles.

The planning process:

  • Planners' surveys - contain unfair questions that do not express all of resident's options
  • Consensus meetings - are conducted in ways that elicit responses that support the planner's goals rather than genuine community desires
  • Visioning sessions- may be over-conducted to the point that the vision belongs to the facilitator and only appears to be that of the community.
  • Stakeholder meetings - can produce misleading results when the stakeholders do not represent the average community member. Frequently the "stakeholders" have a financial or ideological interest in implementing the plan.
  • Zoning regulations - originating with the American Planning Association (and others,)  contains language that establishes the legal framework to implement Agenda 21 in communities. HUD, other federal agencies and firms such as Siemens funded the development of the APA's Growing Smart Legislative Guidebook, 2nd ed. These supporters all have a stake in Agenda 21's implementation.
  • Conservation easements - often contain undiscussed clauses that severely restrict property owners' rights, reduce property values and favor the land trust for future contract changes.

 Regionalism:

  • Regional councils replace much of the local officials' authority with unelected boardmembers.
  • As the regional council matures, local rule diminishes, leaving citizens with more distant and reduced representation.
  • Once a region is formed, the ability to oppose sustainable development is limited.
  • Generally, when the regional council accepts grant monies, all tethered communities are bound by the grant stipulations.
  • Regional planning often includes tax base sharing which promotes wealth transfer by forcing community members to pay for services in other locations.
  • Regional planning often includes "no growth boundaries" that force housing into urban and inner ring suburban areas. This reduces homebuyers' choices and artificially inflates the value of some properties, while reducing it for others.

American Policy Center

Awareness about Agenda 21 is finally spreading throughout the country, due in no small part to your efforts. But knowing it is there isn't enough. Now we need to educate ourselves on how to combat it. That's where you come in.

American Policy Center has recently released a booklet that explains everything you need to know to start fighting back against sustainable programs both locally and nationally. The booklet is called Special Report: Agenda 21 and How to Stop It and is available in the APC store for only $5.95.

I wrote this 35 page booklet in order to give activists a succinct resource they can refer to if they suspect Agenda 21 or Sustainable Development is being implemented in their area. It includes my own research coupled with incredibly helpful graphics created by Carroll County, Maryland Commissioner Richard Rothschild.

In the booklet you will find answers to several roadblocks that grassroots anti-Agenda 21 activists often face, including a definition of property rights and "Resolution to Protect Citizens' Property Rights," which many concerned citizens are already using to tie the hands of power hungry politicians.

This booklet is a great resource for anyone interested in preserving their property rights. It includes all the information to put up a first line of defense and step by step instructions for how to proceed from there. If you face Agenda 21 or Sustainable development in your area or are simply concerned with the national fight this booklet is a must read.

The whole story on Common Core

Read the sourced and footnoted response to the National Review Online and get all the facts you need to know about Common Core HERE. Compiled by American Principles project and Glenn's research team.

Common Core is the new set of federal education standards being pushed by the Obama administration and several leftist organizations but it's even seeing some support from some conservatives.

defending Common Core, and Glenn gave the definitive response on radio today."Common Core is something that we didn't really get for quite some time and again it's something we've learned from the 9/12 project and concerned parents all around the country that have been bringing this to our attention. When we started in on this work, we thought it was pretty bad. The more we do, the worse it becomes," Glenn said.

Below are some of the points made by the National Review Online in defense of Common Core, followed by Glenn's response.

Today on radio, Glenn gave the definitive response. See that and get all the sources to back it up HERE.

Indoctrination And Data Mining In Common Core - A Must See

TheBlaze has been at the forefront in uncovering the disturbing details of the nationalized curriculum standard known as Common Core. One of the most troubling aspects of this federal program is that government bureaucrats are currently mining sensitive and highly personal information on children through Common Core's tracking system. Watch the powerful segments from The Glenn Beck Program HERE.

Common Core Update

It has been less than a week since the creation of Pennsylvanians Against Common Core (PACC) was announced and we have seen the following:
  • Repeal of Common Core petition has logged over 400 signatures
  • Pennsylvanians Against Common Core Facebook page has nearly 450 "friends" which is 8 times that of the pro-Core Facebook page!
  • Pennsylvanians Against Common Core website has had incredible traffic
We have been contacted by email by many interested parties looking for help and materials in getting the word out and in fighting Common Core. Below are some items that should be of interest to you:

Speakers - Cheryl Boise of the Commonwealth Education Organization will be coordinating speakers that can be available to speak to groups around the state on the subject. You can contact her at:  ceb@ceopa.org

Flyers - We have designed an informative flyer for handout at school board meetings, political events and to your friends that should be ready in 10 days. We have ordered 10,000 of these flyers and can mail them out to you upon request when received (be patient). Attached is a one page flyer for your use now that you can print out for distribution.

Suggestion on Curriculum - Many people are telling us that their legislators are arguing that Common Core does NOT control curriculum it only sets standards. We will shortly have a piece debunking that, but in order to not to get lost in a hopeless argument you may just want to call them "national standards" when writing letters to the editor or communicating with your legislator rather than stating that Common Core determines curriculum.

Rallies - Stay tuned, they will be coming at the appropriate time...

State Board of Education Meetings - Please be advised that the PA State Board of Education did hold meetings that technically were open to the public to discuss Common Core prior to voting to enact CCS, but were not well publicized and in some cases were held in buildings with restricted access.

New articles of interest: Petition and Passion - the comments that are posted by petition signatories tell a great story of the passion generated by this usurpation of our local and states rights.
  • Gennell from Reading says:  Our family stands firmly against Common Core.  Please be advised that our votes WILL depend on your vote against this education standard that would destroy education as we know it.
  • Amanda from Montgomery County says: Stop this NOW!
  • Deborah from Dauphin County says: "Stop Common Core and let the local authorities and the PARENTS decide how to educate their children.  This is morally wrong."
  • Susan from Mount Holly Springs says: "Governor Corbett,  We do not need Common Core in our schools. Please leave the education of my children alone. "
  • Michael from Pittsburgh says: "This is an absolute outrage and a violation of our parental rights and state sovereignty."
  • John from Erie says: "Common Core secondary math education is substandard.  Classical literature is being left out in a mad attempt to teach to the test."
Action items:

Contact Secretary of Education Ronald Tomalis at rtomalis@pa.gov and 717-783-6788 and ask him reconsider advancement of Common Core and to hold open well publicized meetings to discuss.
Contact your legislator in the PA House and Senate Education Committees and ask them to hold hearings on CCS and to oppose.
Please pass on the links to our website and Facebook page to all of your contacts
Print and pass out our one page flyer to friends and at meetings. in your area

What information is being collected on your kids through Common Core?

TheBlaze TV subscribers can watch past episodes covering Common Core and CSCOPE. The March 14th episode focused on Common Core and the March 7th episode focused on CSCOPE. Not a subscriber? Sign up HERE.

Glenn has spent a lot of time over the past few weeks exposing some of the education initiatives in states across the country that are indoctrinating kids into the radical progressive agenda. Today, Glenn discussed an issue tied into Common Core that many people aren't aware of: data mining.

"We cover many important stories and topics on this program, but I don't think any could be more important than what we are covering tonight: the progressive takeover of America's schools,"

Read all about it on Glenn Beck's web site . . .

URGENT URGENT US Dept of Ed Draft Document

Common Core OK....when they look at you like you have a tin foil hat on your head......take some of this information with you.  It is 126 pages.  I have not read through the entire document (YET) but what I have read is enough to blow off the top of your head.  I have highlighted some stuff.  KIPP (Charter Schools) has a CHARACTER REPORT CARD on Page 39.  So for now start on page 39 and work your way through to page 45.  Remember FERPA laws were changed last year and I am sure not one parent is aware that permission to share information about our children no longer requires parental consent.  Obama just slipped all these new changes in and I don't believe any parents were ever asked their opinions about these changes.  And where was our Republican Congress when this happened???

AGENDA 21 is:  The complete control and inventory of every human activity. After your friends read some of this information ask them if they still believe A21 is not real.  Chapter 36 of A21 document is devoted to education.

Our government forgets there are still people alive that can think and see through their garbage.

Print this document and get a highlighter...........then start visiting your neighbors, school boards, elected officials and start screaming.  GET COMMON CORE AND THE GOVERNMENT out of our class rooms.  I think it is time to start a MASS movement for Home Schooling.  I know Home Schooling will not be spared.  This should be a movement to bring education back to the local level and DESTROY the Federal Department of Education. If our kids are not in school it will create an uprising at all levels.   We should not settle for shutting down Common Core because they will masquerade it....they are already doing this in VA.  VA supposedly never signed on to Common Core but GUESS WHAT........they ARE implementing Common Core and disguising it from the citizens in VA....of course they aren't doing a good job of hiding it and people in VA are catching on.   Our schools have been in the process of a government take over (in earnest) for more than 20 years.  If we don't shut down the Department of Education it will never stop.  We have to cause a citizen uprising!!

The Agenda

Please watch and share

If you want to understand what is happening to our beloved country please watch this important movie.  Please share it with everyone.

We Were Warned in 1963: Has Communist Ideology Overtaken America?

sickleflagHas Communist Ideology Overtaken America? Education is crucial. Today I want to share two very interesting lists with you, and rather than adding an extensive amount of my commentary, I want to give you the chance to examine the facts for yourself. It is my opinion that many communist goals have already been accomplished. I also believe that advancement has been made in other areas. But, you owe it to yourself to do your own research. I believe not only in the freedom of speech, but also in the responsibility of free thought. So please don't take my word for it. Examine the facts for yourself.

Again, I want to share two lists with you. The first is a list that was entered into 1963 Congressional Record. The second is the 10 planks of The Communist Manifesto.

If you can't see this happening in America, and a ton of progress being made, then I offer two potential explanations:

useful

  1. You are one of the "useful idiots" of communist teaching.
  2. I am one of the "village idiots" that your Mama probably warned you about.

Some of these points will be open for debate and some will not. In some cases it is blatantly obvious that they have achieved their goals. It is even rumored that our own President has deep communist ties. You might want to check that out as well but I will withhold my opinion at this point. Let's just lay it out and you can interpret it.

This list was originally printed in "The Naked Communist" by Cleon Skousen. It was entered into Congressional Record in 1963 as the 45 goals of "The Communist Takeover of America."

The next time you make an online purchase of almost anything, you could be helping ACT! for America-at no cost to you.

Sound too good to be true? It isn't.

All you have to do is sign up for "iGive"-a program that's been around since 1997.

The concept is as powerful as it is simple.

Every time an iGive member makes an online purchase at over 1,000 brand-name stores, a percentage of that purchase is donated to that person's charity of choice.

And with the holidays just around the corner, you could be helping ACT! for America with every gift you buy!

The concept isn't new. In the mid-1990s many supporters of non-profit organizations signed up with long distance telephone programs where a percentage of their bill was donated to their charity of choice.

But our investigation of iGive has convinced us that this program has an ease of use and sophistication that we find remarkable.

  • Imagine booking a hotel room on Orbitz-and having 1.6% of that purchase price donated to ACT! for America.
  • Or buying an Xbox at Best Buy-and having 1.2% of the purchase price donated to ACT! for America.

The same goes for buying merchandise at Amazon, Bath and Body Works, Advance Auto Parts, Game Stop, Kmart, Home Depot, Holiday Inn, Old Navy, NASCAR Superstore, Overstock.com, Mattel, J.C. Penney, Office Max, QVC, Radio Shack, Shoe Carnival, Pottery Barn-and on and on the list goes.

In other words, every time you make a purchase of merchandise you would buy anyway, you would be financially supporting ACT! for America!

All you have to do is log on below and follow the directions to create your account and download the iGive "button." (Note: downloading the "button" is key).

When I was first informed of iGive, I was skeptical. I've seen these ideas come and go. Often, they're too good to be true. Or there are all kinds of glitches and problems.

So I spent hours researching.

I looked at online customer reviews (which were very good). I read all of iGive's fine print, such as Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. I signed up and even emailed two tech support questions to see how good their tech support was.

And the more I dug, the more I liked what I saw. For instance, both of my tech support questions were responded to within 60 minutes. How often does THAT happen?

As you know from our Patriot Partner program, we're all about encouraging a lot of people to each do a little-to do something. When everyone does a little, together we accomplish a lot.

So consider what could happen.

If just 1% of ACT! for America members each purchased just $400 in merchandise in 2013, from all the available outlets, and the average percentage donated to ACT! was 1.5%, the total amount donated back to ACT! for America would be...

...$15,000. That's a lot of money, wouldn't you agree?

And if you were one of those ACT! for America members, it wouldn't cost you one thin dime to help ACT! for America receive $15,000.

If this idea really caught on, and eventually 5% of our members made purchases with iGive, that $15,000 could explode to $50,000, $75,000 or more!

What's more, that 1.5% figure might be low. Many of the merchants offer percentage donations that are much higher. One printer inkjet company I looked at offered 13%!

Every merchant website you visit tells you right at the top what percentage of your purchase price will be donated to ACT! for America.

Just think what we could accomplish with an extra $15,000, $50,000 or $75,000 in our fight against radical Islam!

Get Started Here!

One of the things I most wanted to know was their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Check it out for yourself. I confirmed the terms with a company representative. And I like what I learned. As security-conscious as I am, I have no hesitation using the service-and I'm already doing so.

I know there are many people out there who would love to support ACT! for America, or give more than they're giving, but in these tough economic times they simply can't.

Well, here's a way that everyone who believes in our mission can easily support what we're doing-at no cost to them.

It doesn't get any better than that.

There are already chapter leaders who have signed up for the program, and the feedback I have been getting from them has been all positive. They love the idea and many of them are already using it.

So please, join me and these ACT! for America chapter leaders who are already signed up and using the iGive service.

Yours for a safe and free America

Overview

The sectional divide that led to the outbreak of the Civil War was rooted in fundamentally opposing interpretations of the principles of the Declaration of Independence in addition to diverging perceptions of the institution of slavery. Slaveholders and non-slaveholders alike at the time of the Founding generally agreed that slavery was unjust and an evil that ran counter to the ethos of the Founding, even while countenancing it in practice. By the 1850s, prominent men such as John C. Calhoun and Alexander Stevens argued that slavery was a positive good, and that liberty and equality, far from being natural rights belonging to every human being, were privileges to be earned.

WND EXCLUSIVE

AUTHOR: DOCUMENTS 'DAMNING' FOR HOLDER

Court fight over 'Fast and Furious' papers ratcheting up

WASHINGTON - A court fight over documentation of the Fast and Furious scandal, where the U.S. government trafficked weapons to drug dealers in Mexico, is just ratcheting up now.

But Katie Pavlich, author of the New York Times bestseller "Fast and Furious: Barack Obama's Bloodiest Scandal and the Shameless Cover-Up," news editor of Townhall.com and an expert on the Fast and Furious scandal, says the documents will be "damning" for Attorney General Eric Holder, and possibly even President Obama.

She said both politicians should be concerned "based on the evidence that Attorney General Eric Holder chang[ed] his testimony multiple times under oath in front of Congress."

"I think these documents are pretty damning to him," she told WND in an exclusive interview.

It was reported just last month that a federal judge has ordered the House Oversight Committee and Holder to work with a mediator in their battle over the paperwork from the Fast and Furious scandal.

The 2009 exposure of Fast and Furious by whistleblowers revealed the government's deliberate decision to sell guns to prohibited buyers and allow them to be taken to drug cartel operations in Mexico.

Campaign for Working Families

Monday, April 8, 2013

To: Friends & Supporters

From: Gary L. Bauer

Demonizing Family

The left is pressing its anti-family agenda with common aggressiveness. Leading the charge are the propagandists at MSNBC, or more accurately, MSDNC.

Professor Melissa Harris-Perry hosts a weekend show on the left's flagship network. To give you some idea of just how far left Professor Harris-Perry is, consider her latest promo spot for more "investments" in education.

According to Dr. Perry, America has "never" invested enough in our children because we "haven't had a very collective notion that these are our children."  In order to achieve "better investments" we need to "break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families."

It is shocking enough to read, but you can watch it here.

The worst dictatorships of the past century promoted the idea that children belong to the state, not their parents. With that mindset of control comes the right of the state to indoctrinate your child.

And right on cue the liberals at MSNBC have provided us with an excellent example of precisely the kind of indoctrination you can expect in our public schools once same-sex "marriage" is legalized.

Last week, host Krystal Ball used her own 5-year old daughter, Ella, to push the radical idea of men "marrying" other men, or in this case, girls "marrying" other girls.

After explaining that you can't marry a car or a tree, Ball asks little Ella, "What if you were in love with a girl? Could you marry a girl?" Little Ella, obviously "properly" briefed by her progressive mother, responds that in New York girls can marry girls and boys can marry boys, because as Ball stresses, "you want people to be able to marry who they're in love with, right?"

I'm sure if Ball had pressed the conservation, Ella would have thought three girls getting married or one boy and two girls getting married would be a good thing too. As disturbing as this may seem, it is a glimpse of the conversations that will take place in kindergarten classrooms across the country if the left succeeds in radically redefining marriage and family.

More Democrats Embrace Same-Sex Marriage

Last year, Republicans suffered disappointing losses in key Senate races in Indiana and Missouri in part because pro-life candidates made serious errors getting into discussions about rape.

Republicans lost those races because voters were convinced that the Democrats were main-stream and that there was something wrong with the Republican. With the votes in, the Democrat senators are now showing their true colors.

Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) endorsed same-sex "marriage" after the election. Last week, newly-elected Senators Joe Donnelly (D-IN) and Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) did the same. I am confident that the voters of these states, if they could vote tomorrow, would reaffirm the traditional meaning of marriage, unlike the senators they just elected.

Democrats do not hesitate to portray Republicans as extremists, but when it comes to values issues they are the real extremists. If Republican strategists had IQs higher than tap water, they would be running ads in these states telling voters, "Your Democrat senator is in Washington, D.C., pushing to overturn thousands of years of Western civilization. Do you wish you had your vote back?"

Democrats Fret Over Obamacare

One of the great mis-steps of the 2012 campaign was the unwillingness or inability of the Romney campaign to elevate Obamacare as a central issue. As far as I know, Karl Rove's operation did not do it either. Yet it was Barack Obama's signature issue, and opposition to it led to historic congressional gains for Republicans in 2010.

Less than two years out from the next election, there are reports that Democrats are increasingly worried about facing another Obamacare backlash.

I hope Republican nominees next year don't listen to the professional political consultants telling them to avoid issues like this. In fact, I recommend that they save themselves a lot of money and not hire D.C. consultants. Just listen to Rush Limbaugh and read this daily report and they will know how to win!

Special Operations Soldiers Demand Benghazi Investigation

Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) and 60 of his House colleagues are demanding the creation of a select committee to investigate the Benghazi attacks so the American people and the families of those who died during the attacks will finally know the truth. This push for a special congressional committee got a big boost today when 700 retired Special Operations soldiers issued a joint letter of support for Rep. Wolf's resolution. Speaker Boehner, are you listening?

Goodbye, Maggie

Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher passed away today at the age of 87. The news of her passing brought back a lot of memories for me.

I was blessed to work for Ronald Reagan for all eight years of his presidency, and Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II were instrumental in bringing down the Iron Curtain. They cooperated to free Eastern Europe and liberate the world from Soviet communism. There is not enough space here to recount the history, but some very good books have been written about it.

The media will never discuss it. The left-wing media despised all of them, and certainly won't give a tip of the hat to the Iron Lady, whose conservative, free market policies helped to revitalize Great Britain. It was Margaret Thatcher who famously said, "The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money."

By the way, the British political left has as little decency as America's political left. Minutes after her death was announced, left-wing member of Parliament George Galloway tweeted, "Tramp the dirt down." The Daily Mail reports, "A Facebook campaign has been launched to take the Judy Garland song 'Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead' to number one following Margaret Thatcher's death." Cheers erupted at the National Union of Students' annual conference when Thatcher's passing was announced.

This hatred is directed at a woman who, when asked what motivated her interest in politics, said, "I can't bear Britain in decline. I just can't." The reaction of the British left reminds me of the shocked political left in America that could not understand the massive crowds that lined the streets to see Ronald Reagan's casket go by after his passing in 2004.

Reading news of her life, I was reminded of the remarkable fact that Thatcher, like Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II, also survived an assassination attempt. In 1984, the Irish Republican Army planted a time bomb at the hotel where the Conservative Party conference was being held. It blew up at nearly 3:00 AM, collapsing a portion of the hotel. Five people were killed and dozens were injured. Undeterred, Thatcher delivered her speech hours later.

Thatcher, Reagan and Pope John Paul II were the greatest world leaders of the post-World War II era. We desperately need three more like them today.

1.  When the Right Decided to Go Left, Thatcher Went Right

My friend Ben Domenech has a must read post on the passing of Margaret Thatcher. I would consider it necessary reading for Republicans and conservatives in America right now.

In the 70's the British Conservative Party had lost its way. Like in the United States, the left was on the rise, Soviets were on the march, and people began to accept the decline of their nation. Today, we're at the point again, but instead of Soviets, we have the Chicoms.

As Domenech writes, "Ted Heath, the Mitch McConnell of his day, had won the Prime Ministership stressing more free market views, but then embarked on all sorts of disconcerting steps: income and price controls, dropping his labor union reforms like a hot rock, subsidies for industry cronies, nationalizing Rolls Royce."

Heath collapsed, the public rejected him, and Thatcher set about taking over. No one took her seriously. They did not take her seriously because she was a woman and because she was a conservative. The press and intellectuals assumed that, upon election, Thatcher would moderate her views. She did no such thing.

She ridiculed the state, championed individual liberty, and had an unapologetic optimistic patriotism in her that led her to an undefeated career as British Prime Minister.

We could use some of that these days here. The right should stay right. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

2.  About That RNC Declaration of War on Conservative Grassroots

A whole lot of people have sent me this Breitbart story asking for my comment on it.

I'm not exactly known for being friendly with the establishment these days and it comports with everything I think about them. I'm not surprised by it at all.

But a bunch of people who attended the meeting are defending Mike Shields. They tell me he was mischaracterized. They tell me he did not mean to attack the "grassroots" per se and that he had specific targets in mind.

You know what? I don't care. You know why? Because I agree with Mike Shields and I'm glad he said it.

The professional right needs to be blown up. My regret is that he and those around him claim he was not going as far as it is claimed he went. I would want him to go further.

I am in the same boat Mike Shields is in. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

3.  EXCLUSIVE: McConnell to Filibuster Reid Gun Control Bill

Senator Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has confirmed he will filibuster new gun control legislation, spokesman Brian McGuire confirmed for me today.

While nobody knows yet what Senator Reid's plan is for the gun bill, if he chooses to file cloture on the motion to proceed to the Reid Bill (S. 649), Senator McConnell will oppose cloture on proceeding to that bill.

The future of the legislation could depend on the success of a Republican mounted filibuster which has seen some opposition from the moderate wing of the party with Senator John McCain (R-AZ) questioning its purpose and asking "what are we afraid of?" . . . please click here for the rest of the post

4.  All Your Kids Are Belong to Us

This is profoundly unbelievable. Professor Melissa Harris-Perry of Tulane and MSNBC fame wants us to start treating children as property of the state.... So kids belong to whole communities? Didn't we fight a war back in the 1800s to prove that people weren't owned by the state or anyone else, but were, in fact, people? Seriously?

But take that out of it. This is amazingly stupid commentary. All of us who own property (real property, not children) pay property taxes to fund a public education system to educate our children. We have democratically elected school boards to make the decisions on how to collectively educate our kids to common, state approved standards.

It is failing spectacularly.  . . . please click here for the rest of the post

5.  Court Defies HHS on Plan B

To be to the left of President Obama on the issue of abortion seemed an impossible task, until Friday's ruling by Federal Judge Edward Korman.  Defying Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, with whom the president sided on the issue, Korman ruled that the FDA may not stand in the way of the emergency contraceptive, Plan B, being sold over-the-counter with no restrictions on age.  Prior to his decision, Plan B was only available without prescription to women over the age of 17.  While Sebelius had argued that an 11 year old girl may not understand how to use the drug properly, Korman wrote, "These emergency contraceptives would be among the safest drugs sold over-the-counter. The number of 11-year-olds using these (morning-after) drugs is likely to be minuscule."  Additionally, Korman accused Sebelius' prior decision to restrict access to Plan B of being, "politically motivated, scientifically unjustified and contrary to agency precedent."  Unfortunately, not only does Korman not have a scientific leg to stand on but the potential for abuses of Plan B's newfound availability are widespread. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

Barack Obama blames US Navy for increased North Korean tensions.

Ever notice that this administration is only lightning-fast when it comes to shifting blame when things don't work out perfectly?  They practically left a vapor trail in their zeal to anonymously accuse the US military of being responsible for our tense situation with North Korea:

So, it's the Navy's fault that the U.S.-North Korea spat has gone so far?

That's the apparent message from senior administration officials who, according to the Wall Street Journal on Thursday, said that they had long planned to send B-52s, B-2 stealth bombers, and F-22 fighters to the Korean Peninsula as part of preplanned wargames with South Korea, but that they had not planned the recent deployment of Navy destroyers.

Last weekend, the U.S. ordered two guided-missile destroyers to the Western Pacific - the U.S.S. John S. McCain and the U.S.S. Decatur - to provide additional defense against North Korean ballistic missiles.

Command takes responsibility,

Mr.

 Obama.

RJC Mourns Passing of

Margaret Thatcher

Washington, D.C. (April 8, 2013) - The Republican Jewish Coalition mourns the passing of Margaret Thatcher, one of the pivotal figures of the late 20th century fight against tyranny.

As prime minister of Great Britain, Thatcher saved that country's economy, fought terrorism, and stood firmly with Israel. She was a fierce Cold Warrior who helped bring an end to the Soviet empire and proved that conservative principles - free markets, personal freedom, and personal responsibility - could indeed change the world for the better.

She was a remarkable woman and an inspiration to people around the world. Her strength, her leadership, and her clear-sighted approach to policy will be sorely missed.

Muslims complain; disabled vet tossed from skydiving center

A veteran disabled in Afghanistan is ejected from a skydiving center.

Why? Because some soldiers from Qatar complain about his "infidel" tattoo.

Another blow for sharia. Another blow against free speech.

See the Atlas Shrugs post below.

Sharia in America: "Infidel" tattooed Disabled Vet Forced to Leave Florida Skydive Center After Muslims Complain

They can kill us because we are infidels, but a disabled vet with an infidel tattoo is forced to leave an American flight school that is enforcing the sharia. Check this out and politely contact the Florida Skydiving Center: (863) 678-1003 and Facebook here. UPDATE: their page appears to be down -- here is their website, email addy: LakeWalesSkydiving@gmail.com

I called -- the mailbox is full -- but keep trying. They have to do business, so they will have to answer the phone. Just call and write. Do it.

"Disabled Purple Heart veteran, embarassed at local business" Adventures of a broken soldier (thanks to Ken)

I am a disabled combat veteran. I served in Iraq and worked in Afghanistan. I took an IED because my country asked me too, and I was injured by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan. I have a Purple Heart and an ARCOM with Valor. I fully expect to be treated differently when I am visiting another country - when I am in America I expect equality and toleration; but what I experienced today is something that I never would have thought I'd have to go through in my own country. The country I fought for!

I am a skydiver with around 300 jumps under my belt. I've done jumps from 30,000 feet, helicopters, hot air balloons, wingsuit skydives and so forth. So with that being said I travel around doing this sport quite a bit. Today was my second time at a dropzone called "Florida Skydiving Center / Skydive Lake Wales".

Coincidentally there are soldiers from the country of Qatar being trained there.

The picture is of the tattoo I have. Here is the definition of said tattoo: "Kafir is an Arabic term used in an Islamic doctrinal sense, usually translated as "unbeliever," "disbeliever," or "infidel." The term refers to a person who rejects God or who hides, denies, or covers the "truth." The Muslim's from Qatar saw that tattoo and complained to the dropzone. Once they did so I was called to the back office and asked to cover it up by the OWNER. Not that I would, but its 80 something degrees here today, and that would be an unreasonable request. After I told her that I had no pants to cover it up she told me that she has DUCT TAPE that I can use to cover it. I told the lady that I was not going to cover it up, as it was nothing more than a tattoo saying "I am not a Muslim". After beating around the bush for a few minutes entertaining me while I was trying to convince her otherwise, she asked me to leave.

What kind of America do we live in where someone comes back from war; disabled and decorated... while serving overseas was called an "infidel" for over 2 years, and then get asked to leave an establishment because of a tattoo I have that says just that, because of a culture of people visiting our country, and an American Business with no ethical sense or a backbone for that matter.

I am honestly offended and embarassed by how I was treated at skydive lake wales.

From Rachel S., a friend and patriot...Dave

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl has become more than a name for me recently.  His parents have a close relationship with my pastor from the time he was their pastor in Idaho. Listening to Bob Bergdahl speak about his son at our church recently, it filled my heart with such sorrow, knowing that anyone of us could be in their situation.  Bob has been in communication with the Taliban and also the ADAMS center to create open dialog and perhaps secure his release.  He has also had some conversation with the State Dept. but it seems more like rhetoric than action has transpired.

With the denial /coverup of the events of Benghazi, to Obama's inept foreign policy globally, we must call on our President and Secretary Kerry to respond not only to Bowe's parents but to the American people.  I remember 1979 when the hostage situation in Iran seemed hopeless and we had another weak president.  This soldier deserves to be brought home.

President Obama has made his foreign policy bed by not taking an active role or working with State Dept. to secure his release.  Please call 202-456-1414 to urge Obama to act on behalf of this American soldier.

Join with me in prayer and in engaging our President and his Administration to help bring Bowe home.

Captured U.S. soldier Bowe Bergdahl turns 27 Thursday. It's the fourth birthday the Army sergeant from Idaho has passed in the hands of the Taliban and their allies. As Jessica Robinson reports, people who knew Bergdahl are trying to call more attention to the only known POW from the war in Afghanistan

Not a lot is known about Bergdahl's life since he was captured in June 2009. But it's believed he's now being held by a Taliban-allied insurgent network in Pakistan. U.S. efforts to bring Bergdahl home are wrapped up in slow-moving peace negotiations in Afghanistan with the Taliban.

At home, the people Bergdahl grew up with have become frustrated with what they see as lack of political pressure for his return.

Sabine Parrish, a University of Washington student, says few people know about her childhood friend.  "I want people to know that Bowe is loved, that he is sorely missed. And that we want him back so much. I cannot wait for the day I get to give him a huge hug and say, 'Welcome back, man. And boy, do we have a hell of a lot of catching up to do," Parrish says.

In Bergdahl's hometown of Hailey, Idaho, the owner of the coffee shop he used to work at is urging people to write two birthday cards: One to send to the White House, and one to save for Bergdahl until he returns.

Special ops veterans' group calls for select probe of Benghazi attack

Sept. 12, 2012: Libyans walk on the grounds of the gutted U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, after an attack that killed four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens. (AP)

By Catherine Herridge   Published April 07, 2013   FoxNews.com

More than 700 Special Operations veterans are urging members of Congress to back a select committee to investigate last year's Benghazi terrorist attack, according to a letter first obtained by Fox News.

The letter from the group, "Special Operations Speaks," supports the appointment of a special committee tasked with the single mission of investigating the attack that left Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans dead, and shut down the CIA operation in an annex of the Benghazi consulate, in the Sept. 11, 2012 attack.

"Congress must show some leadership and provide answers to the public as to what actually occurred in Benghazi. Americans have a right to demand a full accounting on this issue," the letter stated.

Special Operations Speaks is a political action committee whose primary mission is to "emphasize the pressing need for the nation and its representatives to understand the value of our Constitution and actively support a return to its application in all phases of government," according to the group's website.

WH Tours Open for Muslim Brotherhood Groups

03/28/13 via White House Partners with Muslim Brotherhood Front.

The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), a group with Muslim Brotherhood origins and an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation terror-financing trial, recently toured the White House and met with multiple officials. According to the group, Paul Monteiro, Associate Director of the Office of Public Engagement, "cited ISNA as his primary means of outreach to the American Muslim community."

The Obama administration's close relationship with ISNA is about more than photo ops and press releases. It is about policy formulation. The input of ISNA is so treasured that the officials coached the organization on how to engage the White House.

On March 8, ISNA President Mohamed Magid joined 10 other religious leaders in a 90-minute conversation with President Obama about immigration reform. Also present was senior White House adviser Valerie Jarrett, who spoke at ISNA's 2009 convention. Three days later, Magid took part in a meeting with President Obama where he got "recommendations" in preparation for his Middle East trip, including some from groups with a history of defending Hezbollah.

"Over the past two years, I-along with my White House colleagues-have benefited from the advice of many of your [Magid's] organizations through our Office of Public Engagement," said Deputy National Security Adviser Denis McDonough on March 6, 2011 during a speech at the mosque that Magid leads.

ISNA's White House tour included spending time with George Selim, the White House Director for Community Partnerships, who is an annual speaker at ISNA's conventions. Selim previously admitted that "hundreds" of meetings have taken place between government officials and the Council on American-Islamic Relations, another group with Brotherhood origins that was designated an unindicted co-conspirator.

The Univeralist Holocaust

There are two basic human responses to an assault. I will protect myself or I will make the world a better place. The first deals with the risk of an attack. The second with your feelings about the world. The first leaves you better able to cope with an attack. The second makes you feel better about the world that you live in.

The Jewish response to the Holocaust fell into these two categories. Never Again and Teach Tolerance. And the two responses were segmented by population.

Never Again became the credo of Israel and Teach Tolerance became the credo of the Western Diaspora.

There were many Israelis who believed in teaching tolerance and many Western Jews who believed in self-defense, but for the most part the responses were structural because the divide between Nationalists and Universalists predated the Holocaust.

The Holocaust was a transformative event, but only to a degree, the responses to it came out of earlier debates that had been going on for several generations. Before the Holocaust, the pogroms had led to the same fork in the road between a collective struggle for a better world and national self-defense. The current debates about Israel revisit that old argument.

To the Nationalists, the Holocaust was not an unexpected event. Nationalist leaders like Jabotinsky had warned that it was coming. To the Universalists however, it was an inexplicable event because it challenged the entire progressive understanding of history as a march to enlightenment. Violent bigotry was a symptom of reactionary backward thinking, not something that modern countries would engage in. There might be anti-semitism in Berlin, but there wouldn't be mass murder. That was for places like Czarist Russia, but not for the enlightened Soviet Russia or Weimar Germany.

The Holocaust dissolved that mirage of a better world. It was a mugging in broad daylight on the biggest street of the biggest city in the world. Its message was that the world had not changed and that human beings had not magically become better people because Berlin had a subway and phone calls could be made across the Atlantic.

MONDAY BRIEF

Lady Thatcher, RIP

April 8, 2013

The Foundation

"I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink; but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death." --Thomas Paine

Inspiration

2013-04-08-briefThe Gipper and the Iron Lady

"Great Britain and the world have lost a great leader. ... Lady [Margaret] Thatcher now takes her place in history alongside Sir Winston Churchill, the Duke of Wellington and all the other great British heroes who defeated enemies of their island nation. An intrepid warrior for freedom and human dignity, Prime Minister Thatcher stood with her 'noble friend,' President Ronald Reagan, to confront the Soviet empire when it was at its peak. Her courage and steadfastness earned the respect of her fiercest foes. It was, after all, the Russians who dubbed her the Iron Lady. At home, Lady Thatcher's free-market reforms were revolutionary -- and salutary. Using deregulation and privatization, she restored Great Britain, once dismissed as the 'sick man of Europe,' to its position as a world power. Indeed, her policies led the way and inspired other nations -- including those in newly free Eastern Europe -- to adopt similar reforms to boost their economies. Characteristically clear-eyed, she called Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein 'psychopaths' in a Washington speech to members of The Heritage Foundation's President's Club on Dec. 9, 2002 -- 15 months after the September 11 attacks. ... I not only had the privilege of visiting Lady Thatcher and being introduced to some of her closest allies in Britain, but of returning the courtesy by introducing her to some of Heritage's best friends in America. To the end, as embodied in the Iron Lady, age only strengthened the storied 'special relationship' between our nations. ... We will do our best to live up to Margaret Thatcher's example of principled leadership and iron will." --Heritage Foundation's former president Ed Feulner

The Gipper

"[Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher] demonstrated two great qualities. The first was that she had thought seriously about how to revive the British economy and entered office with a clear set of policies to do so. She brought down inflation by controlling the money supply, and she began removing the controls, subsidies, and regulations that kept business lazy. Her second great quality was the true grit of a true Brit (or perhaps I should say, of a true-blue Brit). We both realized that our policies wouldn't solve such deep-rooted problems overnight. The first effects, in the world recession of 1981-82, were painful. I remember meeting her in Washington at a time when people in both our countries were calling for a change of course. She never wavered. And she was proved right by events. ... Margaret Thatcher -- this great lady has not only served her country well, she has served the free world well. She is truly a great statesman. So much so that I'll correct what I just said: She is a great stateswoman holding her own among all the statesmen of the world." --Ronald Reagan

Cop hating NAACP skunks nominate cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal as an "un-sung hero"

by Kevin "Coach" Collins

It is very sad, but unfortunately not surprising, to see the depth to which the once proud and heroic National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has sunk. The NAACP which was established in 1909 as a direct counter to the Klu Klux Klan has steadily searched for a raison d'etre in view of its increasing irrelevance as a victim of its own success. The once respectable organization has gone from a reliable Republican voting group to one that is now home to radical anti-Americans longing for socialism.

Politically the NAACP is as totally owned today as their slave ancestors where owned by THEIR masters. Just as the plantation owners of the old South, the owners of today's NAACP demand total and unwavering obedience. This fact of political life for the NAACP is the only possible explanation for its latest and most disgusting public position.

The NAACP has nominated Mumia Abu-Jamal ... Continue Reading:Cop hating NAACP skunks nominate cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal as an "un-sung hero"

Filibuster Tom Perez

Posted: 08 Apr 2013 09:28 AM PDT

(Paul Mirengoff)

Katrina Trinko wonders whether Tom Perez, President Obama's nominee for Secretary of Labor, will face the kind of stiff opposition in the Senate that Chuck Hagel encountered. He certainly should. Indeed, he should be filibustered.

Trinko notes that in 2009, 22 Republicans voted against Perez's confirmation to lead the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division. Since then, Perez has done plenty to warrant more robust opposition. Consider:

Perez is under congressional investigation regarding his involvement with an alleged quid pro quo deal between the Justice Department and St. Paul, Minn. Pursuant to that deal, the Justice Department would cease prosecuting a case against St. Paul (which could have net around $180 million for the federal government) if the city dropped a case that could have led to a Supreme Court decision to change the definition of "disparate impact" in housing-discrimination cases.

Perez's Civil Rights Division appears to have allowed political/racial considerations to affect its handling of the New Black Panther Party voter intimidation case from Philadelphia.

A federal district judge found that Perez, when under oath, gave incorrect testimony about the involvement of political appointees in the handling of the New Black Panther Party case.

Looking ahead, as Secretary of Labor, Perez would crucially involved in the implementation of comprehensive immigration reform legislation, if it is enacted. Perez's background in this area demonstrates that he cannot be trusted to implement immigration reform even-handedly, or even to abide by the law. As a member of the Montgomery County Council, he promoted spending taxpayer dollars on day-laborer sites to facilitate off-the-books work by illegal immigrants.

So will Republicans block Perez? According to Trinko, they "will be closely watching to see if Perez, like Hagel, ignites a firestorm among the grassroots." They "aren't sure whether conservative bloggers and their readers are even paying attention to Perez yet, but if the buzz builds, they want to be ready to capitalize."

How pathetic is that? It's as plain as the nose on one's face that Perez is a corrupt left-wing ideologue who has been specially selected by Obama to implement immigration reform in as radical a fashion as possible. But Republican legislators are waiting to to see whether conservative bloggers will create some buzz.

And if we do, the response, apparently, will be to "capitalize," but not to filibuster. According to Trinko, a filibuster is unlikely because, with an eye towards a future GOP president, Republicans are wary of setting a precedent for filibustering nominees.

Do Republicans seriously believe that their conduct now will dissuade Democrats from doing whatever it takes to thwart Republican presidents in the future, to the extent such presidents are serious about a conservative agenda? And would it even be inappropriate for Democrats to filibuster future nominees who, as Perez has done, give false testimony under oath, disregard the law, and make deals against the interest of taxpayers in order to prevent the Supreme Court from ruling on their pet legal theories?

Obama has had his way on one aggressively leftist and/or dubiously qualified nominee after another. Filibustering Perez wouldn't create a precedent for denying the president the cabinet nominees of his choice even in extreme cases. It would stand only for the proposition that there are limits to what the Senate will swallow when a president presents an over-the-top nominee who cannot be trusted properly to implement vital, transformative new legislation.

Margaret Thatcher couldn't be elected today because immigration has changed the electorate

Posted: 08 Apr 2013 08:44 AM PDT

(Paul Mirengoff)

So says Mark Krikorian. I haven't seen the numbers to back up that statement, but Krikorian presents evidence that the British left responded to the defeats inflicted on it by Margaret Thatcher by legislating an immigration boom intended radically to transform the electorate. And we know that no one remotely like Thatcher has come to power since.

In the U.S., as Peter Wehner has pointed out, Mitt Romney would have defeated President Obama had the demography of the U.S. been the same as in 1980, assuming that he would have done as well, in that context, as he did with each major demographic group in 2012. Indeed, Romney would have run better than Ronald Reagan did in 1980.

One hopes that Republicans will bear this in mind when considering new immigration reform legislation that further transforms the electorate. But big business wants this legislation for its own purposes, and some Republicans think there may be short-term gain in it for the Party, and that seems more than sufficient to trump concern (if any) about the long-term viability of conservatism in America.

Margaret Thatcher, transformative conservative

Posted: 08 Apr 2013 07:29 AM PDT

(Paul Mirengoff)

Margaret Thatcher died today at age 87. We hear plenty of talk these days about transformative leadership. The assumption of those doing the talking is that such leadership must be "progressive," i.e., that it will take the followers leftward.

Yet the two great transformative leaders of my lifetime - Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher - were also restorative in many ways. Though not reactionary, both relied heavily on their nation's traditional norms to launch a devastating counterattack on a status quo that had strayed from those norms. By doing so, they transformed the status quo and pulled their nation back from the brink.

Bill Kristol calls Thatcher, Reagan, and Pope John Paul II "three who saved the West." He's referring to their role in winning the Cold War, and that is a key element in Thatcher's transformative conservatism. But she and Reagan also helped "save the West" through transformative domestic policies. As Kristol puts it, their leadership was about the "defense and renewal of civilization."

Kristol adds an important caveat when he says that these three saved the West "at least for now." Nothing is forever, and with the passing of the decades, the U.S. and Britain once more are on the brink.

But an entire generation - my generation - was able to make their way and raise their family in the world that Reagan or Thatcher restoratively transformed. And future generations have the inspirational model of their transformative conservatism.

"The Lady's not for turning"

Posted: 08 Apr 2013 07:29 AM PDT

(Scott Johnson)

In recalling the great Margaret Thatcher to mind this morning following the announcement of her death, there's nothing like the real thing. In the video clip below from her speech at the Conservative Party conference at Brighton on October 10, 1980, Prime Minister Thatcher responds memorably to her squishy Tory critics. Wikipedia reminds us: "The speech as a whole was very warmly received at the conference, and received a five-minute standing ovation."

As she herself said in her eulogy of Ronald Reagan, so we can say of her: "We here still move in twilight. But we have one beacon to guide us that [Margaret Thatcher] never had. We have [her] example. Let us give thanks today for a life that achieved so much for all of God's children." RIP.

Margaret Thatcher, RIP

(Steven Hayward)

When Leo Strauss received the news that Winston Churchill had died in January 1965, he made the following spontaneous remarks in his classroom at the University of Chicago on the lessons of Churchill's life-lessons that apply just as well to Margaret Thatcher.  His conclusion:

The death of Churchill reminds us . . . of our duty.  We have no higher duty, and no more pressing duty, than to remind ourselves and our students, of political greatness, human greatness, of the peaks of human excellence.  For we are supposed to train ourselves and others in seeing things as they are, and this means above all in seeing their greatness and their misery, their excellence and their vileness, their nobility and their triumphs, and therefore never to mistake mediocrity, however brilliant, for true greatness.

A later generation got to see this same kind of true greatness in action again in the 1980s with Thatcher.  Everyone will have his or her greatest hits to remember-none perhaps more applicable to America's current plight than her remark that the problem with socialism is that sooner or later you start to run out of other people's money.  One of my favorites was her remark, stemming from her Euroskepticism (doesn't that look rather prescient just now) in the late 1990s that "In my lifetime all of our problems have come from mainland Europe.  And all of the solutions have come from the English speaking nations across the world."

[UPDATE]: I've got a longer obituary notice up over at the Ashbrook Center website.

A fitting sendoff is her fabulous beatdown of the socialists in her final appearance as PM in the House of Commons:

Keeping Americans Safe Online

Everything we do is online. If you've been the victim of identity theft or an email phishing scam, you know how quickly your personal data can be stolen or threatened.

It's important to know the difference between types of cyber threats and the right approach to fighting them.

There are three tiers of cyber threats, as explained by Heritage experts Steven Bucci, Paul Rosenzweig, and David Inserra:

1. Cyber crime. Cyber crime hits many Americans in the form of identity theft, phishing, or cyber vandalism. In 2006, the Government Accountability Office estimated that cyber identity theft cost U.S. citizens and companies almost $50 billion, and the threat has only grown since then. These crimes are usually committed by individual criminals, so-called hacktivists, or criminal organizations, and represent the most common form of cyber threat.

2. Cyber espionage. Espionage pursues large, important targets, such as military blueprints or proprietary business plans, and is often state-sponsored. China, for instance, is a known bad actor in cyberspace. The Chinese not only allow and sponsor hackers, but have entire military and government units dedicated to stealing data from governments and private companies. China has been engaged in a prolonged campaign of stealing U.S. intellectual property and military secrets. Together with other hackers and cyber operations, China has stolen billions, if not trillions of dollars in U.S. intellectual property, not to mention compromising U.S. national security secrets.

3. Cyber warfare. While cyber crime and espionage are serious problems, the U.S. also faces a threat from cyber warfare. Taking down communications, transportation, or other critical systems would severely impair the U.S. response to a physical attack, increasing the damage sustained. While such an event is "unlikely" according to Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, the U.S. must prepare for these threats, since terrorists or isolated states are likely to use such attacks as they gain the capabilities to do so.

Across all three tiers, poor information sharing is one of the main problems-and in this case, the government could offer protection, rather than regulating. Heritage experts recommend that "entities that share information about cyber threats, vulnerabilities, and breaches should have legal protection. The fact that they shared data about an attack, or even a complete breach, with the authorities should never open them up to legal action."

The government hasn't meaningfully addressed these problems-and it can't solve them by regulation. Think about Obamacare: The law passed in 2010, yet we are just now seeing tens of thousands of pages of regulations being written. If cybersecurity regulations were created the same way, online threats would have changed many times by the time the regulations went into effect.

President Obama was dissatisfied with Congress's lack of action last year, so he went around them with an executive order favoring a regulatory approach to cybersecurity. This was the wrong way to go, but Congress can still help.

Heritage Education Review

School Choice Blooming This Spring

By Rachel Sheffield

School choice is making headlines in multiple states this spring. Several have approved or are considering proposals to expand educational opportunity for families.

Texas State Senator Dan Patrick (R-Houston), chairman of the Senate Education Committee, noted that "several hundred thousand students are stuck in low-performing schools today. This should not be acceptable to anyone." Patrick says school choice would give opportunities to families to find "the best educational options for their children."

Also down south, Alabama made a surprise and historic move by passing its first private school choice program earlier this month. Governor Robert Bentley (R) called it "the most significant piece of legislation that's been passed in this Legislature in years." Families, individuals, and corporations will be able to receive tax credits for donating to scholarship-granting organizations. Children in failing schools will be able to apply to receive the scholarships, allowing them to attend a private school of choice.

The Sequester Scare Stories Keep Coming, and the President Keeps Flying

President Obama is off to Connecticut today, doing an event at "the University of Hartford where he will continue asking the American people to join him in calling on Congress to pass common-sense measures to reduce gun violence."

At one hour flight and back, Obama will rack up $359,500 in costs of operating Air Force One. You'll recall that last week, Obama held a similar event in Denver. The flights to and from Denver, you'll recall, cost $1 million.

Keep that in mind when you read stories that begin, "Williamson-Burnet County Opportunities, Inc. (WBCO) is being forced to cut back almost $400,000 from its senior Meals on Wheels and Head Start programs due to federal spending decreases caused by sequestration."

The president and his defenders will argue, "But, you see, we couldn't do anything about that. The money comes from separate accounts. One goes to the Air Force to operate Air Force One, and the other is for Meals on Wheels." But to everyone outside the government, this makes no sense. You're the federal government. Sort out your own budget. Figure out what the priorities are. You keep saying your hands are tied, but you're the ones who tied them. Spend less on pep rallies and photo ops outside of Washington and use that money to plug holes in the programs you deem a genuine priority.

By the way, here's one of the big stories in the Washington Post's sequester coverage last week . . .

Cancer clinics across the country have begun turning away thousands of Medicare patients, blaming the sequester budget cuts.

Oncologists say the reduced funding, which took effect for Medicare on April 1, makes it impossible to administer expensive chemotherapy drugs while staying afloat financially . . .

Doctors at the Charleston Cancer Center in South Carolina began informing patients weeks ago that, due to the sequester cuts, they would soon need to seek treatment elsewhere.

Now, check out this account of the same issue from CBS News. (Jeff Vacirca, chief executive of North Shore Hematology Oncology Associates in New York, is quoted in both stories. )

"We couldn't last for more than three to six months if we were to be in the red on all those drugs that now the reimbursement has gone down on," said Dr. Jeff Vacirca, CEO of Northshore Hematology Oncology.

A one-month course of chemo for one patient could cost $10,000. Medicare reimbursement will now fall about $200 short.

"It's going to be a hardship to patients, their caregivers and really such an increased cost to society and to Medicare in the long run that it makes no sense to me," Vacirca said.

Wait, Medicare is now $200 short in covering a $10,000 treatment, and there's no solution that can be found? There's no way the patients can cover that amount, or the provider can't delay a portion of the billing, or some charitable foundation can make up the difference? The only solution is to stop treatment? Doesn't make any sense, does it?

It doesn't make sense, and at least one angle of this story doesn't check out. Check out this local coverage in Charleston, contradicting the Post's account:

Contrary to a media report, the Charleston Cancer Center is not turning away patients as a result of federal sequestration cuts, an administrator at the practice confirmed Friday afternoon.

Kirk Daniel, chief operations officer at the center, said the practice will continue to treat its patients, including those with Medicare plans. He said The Washington Post inaccurately reported that the Charleston Cancer Center informed some patients that they will need to seek treatment for their cancer elsewhere.

Kind of fascinating that when Medicare implements a 2 percent reduction, the very first place these Cancer Centers implement cuts is in treatment for the most vulnerable, isn't it?

Vote Democrats in 2014: They Have No Opinions on Anything!

Keep the lead of this Washington Post article in mind when you're told about the great liberal ascendancy that will continue in the midterms:

Democratic Party officials believe that Kevin Strouse is exactly the kind of candidate who can help them retake the House next year.

He's a smart, young former Army Ranger - good qualities for any aspiring politician. But what party leaders really like is that Strouse doesn't have particularly strong views on the country's hottest issues.

Immigration? Tax policy? "Certainly I have a lot of research to do," Strouse acknowledged in an interview Thursday as he announced his candidacy in a suburban Philadelphia House district.

Strouse's candidacy reflects an emerging Democratic strategy for taking back the House from Republicans after the tea party takeover of 2010.

Like Elizabeth Colbert Busch, he appears to be following a strategy of never taking a stance that anyone, anywhere, might disagree with. "I believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way. Show them all the beauty they possess inside. Give them a sense of pride . . ."

Now, if liberalism were ascendant, and the electorate's preferences were shifting strongly and dramatically to the left, why wouldn't these folks be talking about the need for the government to do more, dismiss the claim that we need to dramatically reduce our spending, that President Obama is getting it right, again and again, and that they'll eagerly return Nancy Pelosi to the speakership?

You can argue that Colbert Busch is running in too Republican-leaning a district to give you a fair reading on that. But Kevin Strouse is running in Pennsylvania's eighth district, basically Bucks County. It's a D+1 district. With Barack Obama carrying the state by a healthy margin, and Bob Casey winning the Senate reelection handily, the GOP incumbent, Mike Fitzpatrick, won . . . 56 percent of the vote. Nearly 200,000 votes.

Also mentioned in the article: Sean Eldridge, husband of Facebook cofounder and New Republic owner Chris Hughes. Here are some of the highlights from the New York magazine writeup on his filing:

Yesterday Eldridge, 26,filed papers establishing a campaign organization that would enable him to compete for New York's 19th congressional district seat in 2014. . . .

Eldridge would be smart to stockpile more of that kind of credit in the local political favor bank. He was born in Canada and grew up in Ohio, and he and Hughes split time among a number of palatial residences -- the kind of things that will help Gibson try to paint the novice candidate as a dilettante and carpetbagger. Gibson, 48, is a lifelong New Yorker and a talented campaigner with an appealing personal story, especially for a district that includes newly gentrified river towns like Hudson* but also covers a wide swath of depressed rural territory: He's a former Army colonel who served four tours in Iraq and was awarded a Purple Heart. . . .

November's results showed that Gibson is formidable: He beat a Democratic challenger by six points even though Barack Obama carried the district by a substantial margin. Turnout is likely to be lower in 2014 -- without a presidential campaign or a contested New York gubernatorial election -- which could also hurt Eldridge's chances.

There's a lot of road between this moment and the 2014 midterms, but . . . do Colbert Busch, Strouse, and Eldridge sound like the all-star team you would want to assemble to retake the House?

Would You Be More Eager to Reform 'Entitlements' or 'Social Insurance'?

Over in The New Yorker this week, Hendrik Hertzberg argues that Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid shouldn't be called "entitlements," and that the use of the term represents a triumph of Republican propaganda, or at least "framing," to feed into the George Lakoff theory that our opinions are just a matter of which magic buzzwords we hear the most.

The full magazine piece isn't online, but he does summarize his argument on that magazine's web site:

My main point in the piece was that social-insurance or earned-benefit programs like Social Security and Medicare shouldn't be called "entitlements," because "entitlements" has a smug, I've-got-mine, you-owe-me-a-living sound to it. Calling someone "entitled" or having "a sense of entitlement" is not a compliment. It suggests an arrogant B-list movie star expecting the best table in an exclusive restaurant as a matter of course, or a spoiled heiress going wild in the shoe department at Neiman-Marcus. That's why conservatives so successfully sought to insinuate "entitlements" into the speech centers of innocent American brains.

He prefers the term, "social insurance."

Now, I may be completely wrong, but I think Hertzberg has it exactly backwards on both terms. I think the term "entitlements" is inherently helpful to those who want to keep those programs exactly as they are, and resist any effort to reduce, reform, limit, or alter them. The moment you propose anything that could be construed as a reduction -- raising the age to collect benefits, altering the cost of living adjustments, etc., the instinctive reaction of most recipients and those nearing the age to receive them is, "Hey, wait a minute, I'm entitled to that!" The argument is driven, of course, by the widespread belief that the money paid into Social Security by today's workers is kept safely locked away somewhere, instead of instantly being spent by the government and replaced with an "I.O.U." note.

When I was discussing this with my wife, my older son asked what Social Security was.

Mrs. Campaign Spot: Social Security is a program that has people pay money while they're working, and then they get that money paid back to them when they get too old to work.

Jim: Yes, son, when you pay it, it gets collected by elves and unicorns to be stored in a magical fairy-land in the sky called the "trust fund."

From where I sit, "social insurance" is a terrible term for these programs. Of course, if you would like to see serious, even dramatic reforms like I would, maybe we ought to be urging the adoption of a terrible term.

When you hear the term, "insurance," what do you think of? Probably health insurance, life insurance, car insurance, or homeowner's insurance. And with all due respect to all of my fine readers who work in this field, nobody likes dealing with insurance companies. Particularly for home, car, and life insurance, you hope you'll never have to use it, but then you realize you're paying a (usually significant) amount every month for something you hope to never use. We love buying houses and cars, but nobody gets excited about buying the insurance for those things. That's why all of the commercials for insurance feature cute talking geckos and teleporting State Farm agents and "Flo," an obsessive-compulsive saleswoman so relentlessly cheery she must take methamphetamines to calm down. The advertisers are desperate to make you feel good about a product that is inherently depressing.

So if voters come to think of these programs as "insurance," they will probably be really eager to see them reformed, because they're instinctively cringing every time they hear the word.

ADDENDUM: Via Jazz Shaw at That Un-linkable Site That Is Warmer Than Warm Air.com, the best video of the weekend: Jack Hoffman, a seven-year-old boy from Nebraska with a rare form of brain cancer, got a chance to play with the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers for the last play of their spring practice game.

Here's Jack getting the play, and here's him getting the ball. Somehow, the defenders just couldn't seem to catch him in the open field.

COMMENTARY:

Murder for Hire
By Rich Galen
A book about the CIA's drone program, due out this week, says the U.S. got permission to fly drones over Pakistan territory in 2004 with drones in exchange for killing a Pashtun tribal leader named Nek Muhammad on behalf of the Pakistani government. The whole thing leaves a sulfur-like smell behind. How different, for instance, was this contract killing of Ned Muhammad from the work of Murder, Inc. back in the hey-day of the Mafia in New York?

FCC set to drop ban on f-word, nudity on television and radio stations nationwide

They are seeking public comments; make your voice count!
April 8, 2013

Dear ##FirstName[AFA Supporter]##,

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced it is considering dropping current broadcast decency standards that ban explicit profanity and "non-sexual" nudity.

You can read the press release from the FCC here.

Specifically, if enacted, the new FCC policy would allow network television and local radio stations to air the f-word, the s-word and to allow programs to show frontal female nudity, even during hours when they know children will be watching and listening.

It is accepting comments on the proposal from the viewing public until the end of April.

Current broadcast decency law prohibits expletives and nudity, even if brief or "fleeting." The Supreme Court has upheld the law as constitutionally enforceable by the FCC, despite lawsuit attempts by networks NBC and FOX to overturn it.

TAKE ACTION

Submit your comments to the FCC, urging it to reject any changes to the current policy.

The FCC will not accept general email comments. To be valid, you are required to file a formal comment via the FCC's website.

Please follow these instruction carefully, to insure your comment is accepted by the FCC:

1. Go to http://apps.fcc.gov/ecfs/upload/begin?procName=&filedFrom=X.
2. Enter the code "13-86" in the "Proceeding Number" box and fill out the few remaining required fields.
3. Enter your comment in the text box provided and click "Continue."
4. From there, review your comment and click "Confirm."

Here is a sample comment you may submit:

I oppose any changes to the current FCC indecency standards that would allow television and radio stations to broadcast expletives and nudity on the public airwaves, even if brief or "fleeting."

The Supreme Court has confirmed the FCC's authority to enforce policies regarding expletives and nudity, especially during times when children are likely to be watching or listening.

Relaxing the current policy would not serve the public interest and I urge the FCC to reject all proposals that would allow for the broadcast of expletives and nudity on FCC-licensed stations.

Take Action NowSend your comment to the FCC now!

It is very important that you forward this alert to your friends and family members.

Sincerely,

Tim

Open Borders Lobby Plans Amnesty Rally

When the Gang of Eight first introduced their "principles" for immigration reform, including an amnesty for the nation's 11 million illegal aliens, they said they were hoping to introduce legislation in early-March. But as problems arose, and the Gang learned that it's much more difficult to write legislation they'd all agree on, the timeline was pushed to late-March - just before the spring recess.

As the recess neared, and it become more evident that a bill would not be ready, the Gang pushed the timeline to just after recess to early-April. Now that it's early-April, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) told the Sunday talk shows this weekend that he's hopeful "we can get [legislation] done by the end of the week." On the other hand, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told the same talk shows that a bill will be ready "in the next couple of weeks."

The White House and some Congressional Leaders, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Judiciary Chairman Pat Leahy (D-Vt.), were hoping to have the bill completed before summer, but The Washington Post reminded its readers today that the President originally had hoped to sign legislation by the end of the year.

The Post also reported today that there may be other complications. It quoted someone from the business community who's c lose to the negotiations saying, "There are still substantial disagreements on almost all the major parts." That's consistent with what Sen. Graham said this weekend that the Gang is revisiting the agreement between union and business lobbyists on the guest-worker program because there are still some wrinkles to iron out.

Today's Post article included a few other interesting tidbits. For starters, it reported that the planned legislation would be about 1,500 pages long! That's 1,500 pages that Sen. Leahy thinks the Judiciary Committee can mark up in a day or two. It also reported that the Eight Senators writing the legislation have agreed to oppose any amendments that would impact its core provisions. That's quite a contrast from when Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) last week urged Sen. Leahy for "careful consideration of legislative language and an open process of amendments."

The Gang of Eight and the mainstream media continue to be mostly optimistic about the bill's chances, but it's becoming more evident that push back from you and others have made the negotiations more complicated than what originally thought.

So, it's time to keep the pressure on Congress! Below you'll find a link to a fax for your Three Members of Congress that mentions the troubling March jobs report that came out on Friday and urges them to opp ose any increases in work visas despite efforts by some business groups to push for even more guest and permanent workers.

Weathermen Bombs vs. FBI Bake Sales

It will be great day poster"Two, four, six, eight - now it's time to smash the state!" chanted the angry mob. One protester climbed up a flagpole in front of the Justice Department. To the cheers and delight of the crowd, he cut down Old Glory and in its place raised a Viet Cong flag. Police fired tear gas. The mob chanted, "Tear the f***g state down!"

This was the so-called "March Against Death" in Washington, DC, on November 13, 1969. The chant was the rallying cry for the Weathermen, the violent terrorist group that instigated the riot...

Mayor Bloomberg shocking lack of knowledge on guns: AUDIO

The two most prominent voices leading the call for more gun control apparently don't have a clue what they are talking about. President Obama "misspoke" again recently when he said the Sandy Hook killer used a fully-automatic weapon, and Mayor Bloomberg also got caught not knowing the difference between semi-automatic and fully-automatic firearms.
