Alarming Footage: Who Is Really Using Chemical Weapons in Syria?
March 26, 2013 By Theodore and Walid Shoebat
In December of last year we revealed that the Syrian rebels had in their hands potent chemical weapons and were testing them on rabbits, and we predicted that they will use them on innocents.
Well now it is happening.
Recent new evidence translated from Arabic sources reveals the likelihood that it was the Muslim rebels (FSA) - and not the Assad regime - that carried out a chemical attack on the town of Khan al-Assal, west of Aleppo.
We have captured clips that were never translated (until now) showing rebels revealing heavy arsenals including weapons of mass destruction that contain chemical agents.
Russia says that it was the FSA that carried out the massacre while the White House says that there is no evidence that the rebels are responsible.
In Arab circles, the blaming goes back and forth. The Syrian government blames the FSA and vise-verse.
"Seniors needing hospital care will be shocked at cutbacks. Section 3000A of the law awards bonus points to the hospitals that spend the least per senior. Hospitals are even whacked for what Medicare patients consume in the 30 days after discharge, including physical therapy.
Hospital patients of all ages will wait longer for a nurse. Cuts to Medicare pay for over half the law, and this will mean $247 billion less for hospitals over the next decade; the layoffs are already starting.

Congress Hands Obamacare a Setback
By Art Kelly | 3/26/13
Congress has dealt a setback to Obamacare by denying funds that are necessary for full implementation of the law.
The House and Senate have passed HR 933, the Continuing Resolution for federal spending for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2013, which severely handicaps the implementation of the health care law.
HR 933 denied the request from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for an additional $949 Million to implement Obamacare. And because the law locked in the sequester, the current funding level for the health care law was further reduced as well.
When the bill reached the Senate, on March 13, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and 20 cosponsors offered Senate Amendment 30, to prohibit the use of any funds to carry out the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the official name for Obamacare. That amendment was defeated 45-52. All Republicans voted for it and all Democrats voted against it with 3 Democrats not voting.
Lawmakers say it's OK to seize your bank deposits to fund their bailout
Posted on March 25, 2013
Wow. This is big. What's next? Nothing is safe. I hope you're ready for the coming turning point in our society. If this article doesn't make you nervous about your freedoms nothing will.
Imagine waking up to find out that as much as 40 percent of the money you thought was safely deposited in the bank was seized, without your permission, to bail out a near-bankrupt government.
That's just what thousands of large depositors in Cyprus woke up to Monday morning after European Union officials accepted a last-minute deal offered by the island's lawmakers to secure a $13 billion bailout to avert imminent financial meltdown.
The deal, which also slashed the island's oversized banking sector, came as euro ministers in Brussels threatened to cut off crucial emergency assistance to Cyprus' embattled banks after business on Monday if no agreement was reached.
Last week, we asked you to contact your US Senators and Congressman/woman regarding
several key issues scheduled for votes--and we are happy to report small victories!
Gun Control
After the Senate Judiciary Committee passed the Feinstein Assault Weapons Ban along a
(10-8) party line vote, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid--in order to protect vulnerable Democrats facing uphill re-election battles in Red States won by Romney--tabled the bill.
Ryan Budget
No sooner had Congressman Paul Ryan's budget passed the House than it was defeated in the Senate. Senators Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and Susan Collins joined Democrats in defeating the Ryan Budget.
We applaud Senator Pat Toomey and all area Republican Congressmen for voting in favor of the budget (see press release below) and we completely understand why liberal Republican Susan Collins voted with the Democrats. (Senator Marco Rubio voted with Senator Toomey).
We are, however, scratching our heads as to why Paul, Cruz and Lee voted against the measure--even after hearing their rationale.
Murray Budget
For the first time in four years, Senate Democrats have passed a budget--something they are charged with doing every year!
Republicans should take comfort in the fact that the Democrats had an extremely difficult time passing Senator Patty Murray's budget. It passed by a vote of 50-49.
Reports are that the Democrats were so desperate before the vote that they talked of wheeling in the 89-year-old Senator Frank Lautenberg, the only Senator to miss the vote.
(The New Jersey Senator has missed a lot of votes since January.)
Four Democrats, representing red states, voted against the budget. Several more, also from red states, will wish they had voted against the measure when they face their Republican
opponents in the 2014 general election. (One thing you can say about Democrats--they are always willing to sacrifice themselves to the gods of big government and high taxes.)
The Ryan and Murray budgets are now headed for conference. Wouldn't you like to be a fly on that contentious wall?
ObamaCare Turns Three--How may more birthdays are left?
We say no more than three.
Paul Ryan's budget takes direct aim at ObamaCare. Republicans in the House will not fund certain aspects of this legislative boondoggle and the courts will slowly chip away at it--as will state legislators and governors.
We need to apply pressure whenever we can. Governor Tom Corbett has refused to go along with the expansion of the Medicaid program in PA--even after recently meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.
The Governor recently talked about his decision on the Fox Network's Neil Cavuto Show. He could, however, change his mind at any time.
(Governor Chris Christie already announced his decision to expand medicaid in the Garden State.)
Action Alert
Please call Governor Corbett's office at 717.787.2500 and ask him to remain firm in his resolve not to strengthen ObamaCare by expanding Medicaid in the Keystone State.

How "Social Justice" Came to America with Professor Thomas Burke, D. Phil., D.Th.
When: Tuesday, April 2, 2010, 7 PM
Where: Irvine Auditorium, Room G-7, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA
Backgrounder: Until 1932 the doctrine of Liberty of Contract prevailed in the U.S. legal system, but the incoming Roosevelt administration introduced many programs of "social justice" which brought it to an end.
In his recently published book, The Concept of Justice, Professor Burke describes the origins of this new idea and its subsequent development into our current system. The lecture will explain the events by which this took place.
(A very timely topic in light of the recent election of Pope Francis--a supposed advocate of "Social Justice" theology.)
Hope to see you soon!

For Immediate Release
Republican House Right on Ryan Budget, Group Says; Blasts Senate Dems by Asking, "Who Will Bail Us Out?"
Philadelphia, PA (March 22, 2013) --The Independence Hall Tea Party
Association is blasting Senate Democrats, including area Senators Bob Casey
(D-PA), Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Tom Carper (D-DE), and Chris Coons (D-DE) for voting against Republican Congressman Paul Ryan's budget late last night--saying that Congressional Democrats haven't proposed a budget in four years because they do not want the American people to know that they are the party of big spending and higher taxes.
At the same time, the Association is praising Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) and House Republicans, especially PA and NJ area Congressmen--Jim Gerlach, Pat Meehan, Mike Fitzpatrick, Charlie Dent, Joe Pitts, Lou Barletta, Chris Smith, Jon Runyan, Leonard Lance, and Frank Lobiondo--for voting in favor of Ryan's budget, which passed the House, yesterday, mostly along party lines.
(In January, the Association roundly criticized Senator Toomey and the area's House Republican delegation, along with Congressional Democrats, when they voted in favor of the so-called 'Fiscal Cliff' bill which substantially increased taxes--resulting in news stories that wrongly suggested the Association would target area Republican Congressmen in the 2014 primary.)
"Senate and House Democrats, like Senator Menendez and Congresswoman
Allison Schwartz (D-PA) stubbornly rejected Congressman Ryan's budget even though it presents a path to a balanced budget within ten years and does so without raising taxes," said Association President Teri Adams.
"The budget being offered by Democrat Senator Patty Murray does not balance the budget in the foreseeable future--but does add $1.5 trillion in new taxes in the next several years.
"Ryan's budget is pro-growth and would result in increased private sector employment.
"Murray's budget is reckless and irresponsible. It would result in a further weakening of the private sector economy and a loss of jobs.
"Earlier this week, in Cyprus, we saw that unsustainable government spending can cause dire consequences for the survival of a nation and its financial institutions.
"The Democrats act as if our spending crisis can be ignored. Indeed, leading Democrat economists like Paul Krugman are advising Congress to continue their out of control spending spree," said Ms. Adams.
"We say to the Democrats in Congress--grow up and face reality. Already, at least five European nations are in desperate need of bailouts due to decades of out of control spending.
"Do we want that situation to repeat itself in the United States?
"In Europe, Germany and the European Union are attempting to bailout Cyprus. If our insane spending habits were to ruin our economy, who would bail us out?"
TWO IMPORTANT EVENTS:
1)The anti-gun/anti-second amendment group, Bucks Against Gun Violence, and other antigun groups will be holding a rally at the Doylestown County Courthouse on Saturday March 30th at Noon. There will be the parents of gun murdered Corey Kesselman speaking, who was Killed By being shot in the back by a SHOTGUN after a drug situation gone bad .
Please show up with signs like GUNS PROTECT WOMEN CHILDREN AND THE HELPLESS; CITIZENS USE GUNS 2MILLION TIMES A YEAR FOR PROTECTION.
Please no aggressive signs, just positive pro-gun signs and wear paraphernalia that distinguishes you from THEM, like NRA logos, Freedom is not Free or TEA PARTY stuff.
PLEASE SEE their FLYER
2) Commissioner Marseglia is trying to exclude any County retirement funds that invest in firearm manufacturing, but also in firearm sales. This is outrageous and stinks of a total firearms ban and a an attack of free enterprise. Stores like Cabelas and Dick's fall into that category.Challenge her at the next Commissioner meeting and ask her if this means that she advocates a total gun ban for hunters and sportsmen as well as protection. What does this have to do as she expounds"control unsafe gun use" See the below Intel story.

Should Bucks County invest in guns?
By James McGinnis Staff writer | Posted: Thursday, March 21, 2013
It's no secret Bucks County spends millions of dollars each year to combat and prosecute gun crime.
What's harder to figure out - even for a county commissioner - is just how much the government invests in gun manufacturing and sales.
Commissioner Diane Marseglia said she's spent more than a month investigating the county's pension fund and a portfolio of investments, which includes some gun makers and distributors.
The U.S. Conference of Mayors urged all local and state governments to cut ties with 'irresponsible' gun companies in the wake of the Dec. 14 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, which left 20 children and six adults dead.
At Marseglia's request, investment adviser PFM Asset Management LLC said it contacted the six managers of portfolios held in the Bucks County Employees' Retirement Fund. The majority does not hold any such investments, PFM said.
However, a shortlist provided by the firm does include a military defense contractor, a firm selling guns to civilians and some sporting goods stores that sell firearms. Marseglia said she will call on her fellow commissioners to study the portfolios in greater detail.
"This is something that we can all do to try to control unsafe gun use because our lawmakers in Washington can't seem to do it," said Marseglia. "I think what we need here is a more exhaustive search."
Her fellow commissioners, Robert Loughery and Charley Martin, aren't as keen on the idea, though.

FrackNation is a documentary on hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and the natural gas boom in the US and abroad. FrackNation shows how unfounded opposition to fracking is damaging the lives of some of the poorest and hardest working people in America. FrackNation dispels myths and tells the story of the people directly affected by fracking bans.
FrackNation premiered January 22, 2013 on Mark Cuban's AXS TV. The New York Times called the film "meticulously researched...provocative." And Variety said it was a "briskly paced...mischievous pic."
The film was created and directed by the husband and wife team of Phelim McAleer and the always outrageous Ann McElhinney. Ann will be speaking on April 20th at the upcoming PA Leadership Conference. DVDs of the film will be available for purchase at the PA Coalition booth at PLC
Phelim will be touring Pennsylvania for a series of screenings across the Commonwealth. Listed below are venues and dates for screenings in April. Additional screenings are planned for May including one in the Pittsburgh area. If your grass roots group would like to schedule a screening, please contact Magdalena Segieda at magda@fracknation.com

We also offer again this year special benefits for Patriot Eagle and Patriot sponsors.
We have some exciting new wrinkles planned for this year's event, and our list of confirmed speakers already includes:

2013 RedState Gathering -- Early Bird Special
Dear RedStater,
We announced earlier this week that we'll be headed to New Orleans the first weekend in August for this year's RedState Gathering. As a member of our RedState family, we'd like to extend exclusive Early Bird registration and pricing to you (just use the promo code EARLYBIRD on the registration page).
The 2013 RedState Gathering will be held August 2-3 at the Westin Canal Place in New Orleans, LA. We'll have two full days of speakers and activities and you can expect a good mix of elected officials and potential candidates for the 2014 cycle (we'll keep you informed as additions are made).
The Gathering has always been a unique event, in that all speakers, even the most in-demand and influential, pay their own way and make their own travel arrangements. This helps keep our costs low, a savings we are happy to pass along to our conference attendees. Additionally, we strive to get you up close to the speakers, ask them to take your questions, and we take care of nearly all your meals during the conference. Bottom line: fewer frills, more thrills and access.
We are thrilled to once again be joined by Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, who will be hosting a reception for all attendees and appear at the Gathering podium as a keynote speaker. A huge hit in 2012, we're looking forward to Gov. Jindal playing an even larger role this year as he welcomes us to his home state.
Now, more than ever, true conservative activists must come together to exchange ideas and strategize for the future. That's what this year's Gathering is all about. We hope you'll join us.
P.S. Don't delay! You'll receive 20% off if you register today - just use the promo code EARLYBIRD. Click here.

Hi All - I just spoke w/ Lisa Lnancollas@aol.com (717 437 1327) who lives in Lewistown, Pa and is majorly involved in fighting the smart meters............and it's more than just electric, it's water, furnaces/ac's and wells too
We need to share this information. I asked her if she'd speak to groups in our area and she said yes, but would like to include Mike Reese who's written several bills that we want to get out of committee and approved:
2.signs in our yards saying NO SMART METERS......put them around like election signs
3.Let our State Reps know how you feel ie Warren Kampf....tell him you're in favor of the bills against smart meters
4.Do neighbor alerts........call your neighbors if you see trucks coming into the area

Important Announcement from SFL
You're probably wondering why you've been getting more emails from me and Sustainable Freedom Lab after having had next to none for quite some time.
Well, the truth is that I've been very busy. As always, I spend enormous amounts of my time researching, writing, and speaking to the public about the threats of Agenda 21 and Regionalism.
I've also been working on important projects behind the scenes.
Now I'm finally ready to reveal the first of these "secret" projects: The DVD version of "Stopping Agenda 21 in Your Community".
Like the title suggests, this DVD program offers step-by-step training on how you can fight back against those who would bring Agenda 21 into your community. The test audience who saw this program during the limited streaming we held last Fall felt it was critical viewing for anyone concerned about the erosion of our property rights.
If you've been wanting an interesting, clearly written, how-to-manual for identifying and fighting UN Agenda 21, here it is. Agenda 21--All the information you need to understand what is happening in your town, why it's happening, who is behind it, and what you can do to stop it. BEHIND THE GREEN MASK: U.N. Agenda 21 is 172 pages of truth. Part history, part current events, part hand-to-hand combat, and part blueprint for keeping your freedom, this is one book that you'll put to work immediately. Boots on the ground and all hands on deck is the order of the day. Awareness is the first step in the Resistance.
Awareness about Agenda 21 is finally spreading throughout the country, due in no small part to your efforts. But knowing it is there isn't enough. Now we need to educate ourselves on how to combat it. That's where you come in.
American Policy Center has recently released a booklet that explains everything you need to know to start fighting back against sustainable programs both locally and nationally. The booklet is called Special Report: Agenda 21 and How to Stop It and is available in the APC store for only $5.95.
I wrote this 35 page booklet in order to give activists a succinct resource they can refer to if they suspect Agenda 21 or Sustainable Development is being implemented in their area. It includes my own research coupled with incredibly helpful graphics created by Carroll County, Maryland Commissioner Richard Rothschild.
In the booklet you will find answers to several roadblocks that grassroots anti-Agenda 21 activists often face, including a definition of property rights and "Resolution to Protect Citizens' Property Rights," which many concerned citizens are already using to tie the hands of power hungry politicians.
This booklet is a great resource for anyone interested in preserving their property rights. It includes all the information to put up a first line of defense and step by step instructions for how to proceed from there. If you face Agenda 21 or Sustainable development in your area or are simply concerned with the national fight this booklet is a must read.
P.S. - The American Policy Center store has recently updated our inventory to include everything you need to fight back against Agenda 21. The revamped catalogue includes the "Stop Agenda 21 Action Kit", which provides users with everything they need to know about Agenda 21 in their own living room, as well as ways to share it with other concerned activists and critical knowledge on how to fight back. The store also offers DVDs of past successful conferences and symposiums, books and articles that deal with the issues of sustainability and Agenda 21 and individually packaged manuals and workbooks to aid you in your activism. You don't need to look any farther than the American Policy Center Store for everything you need to combat Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development in your area.
It's time to opt out of the creepy federal data-mining racket.
By Michelle Malkin
Last week, I reported on the federal government's massive new student-tracking database, which was created as part of the nationalized Common Core standards scheme.
The bad news: GOP "leadership" continues to ignore or, worse, enable this Nanny State racket. (Hello, Jeb Bush.)
The good news: A grassroots revolt outside the Beltway bubble is swelling. Families are taking their children's academic and privacy matters out of the snoopercrats' grip and into their own hands. You can now download a Common Core opt-out form to submit to your school district, courtesy of the group Truth in American Education.
Parents caught off guard by the stealthy tracking racket are now mobilizing across the country. According to the
New York Daily News
, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, echoing parents across New York City, blasted the tracking database in a letter to government officials: "I don't want my kids' privacy bought and sold like this." This Wednesday, prompted by parental objections, Oklahoma state representatives unanimously passed House Bill 1989 - the Student Data Accessibility, Transparency and Accountability Act - to prohibit the release of confidential student data without the written consent of the student's parent or guardian. As I noted in last week's column, the national Common Core student database was funded with Obama stimulus money. Grants also came from the liberal Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (which largely underwrote and promoted the top-down Common Core curricular scheme). A division of the conservative Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. built the database infrastructure. A nonprofit startup, "inBloom, Inc.," evolved out of this strange-bedfellows partnership to operate the invasive database, which is compiling everything from health-care histories, income information, and religious affiliations to voting status, blood types, and homework completion.
And it gets worse. Research fellow Joy Pullmann at the Heartland Institute points to a February Department of Education report on its data-mining plans that contemplates the use of creepy student-monitoring techniques such as "functional magnetic resonance imaging" and "using cameras to judge facial expressions, an electronic seat that judges posture, a pressure-sensitive computer mouse and a biometric wrap on kids' wrists."
The DOE report exposes the big lie that Common Core is about raising academic standards. The report instead reveals Common Core's progressive designs to measure and track children's "competencies" in "recognizing bias in sources," "flexibility," "cultural awareness and competence," "appreciation for diversity," "empathy," "perspective taking, trust, [and] service orientation."
That's right. School districts and state governments are pimping out highly personal data on children's feelings, beliefs, "biases," and "flexibility" instead of doing their own jobs of imparting knowledge - and minding their own business. And yes, Republicans such as former Florida governor Jeb Bush continue to falsely defend the centralized Common Core regime as locally driven and non-coercive, while ignoring the database system's circumvention of federal student-privacy laws.
Why? Edu-tech nosybodies are using the Common Core assessment boondoggle as a Trojan horse to collect and crunch massive amounts of personal student data for their own social-justice or moneymaking ends. Reminder: Nine states have entered into contracts with inBloom: Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New York, and North Carolina. Countless other vendors are salivating at the business possibilities in exploiting public-school students.
Marxism in Education - The Infiltration of Our School Systems by the Common Core Standards
Details
Written by Terresa Monroe-Hamilton
Right Side News has been reporting on progressive education reformers and the Common Core Standards being implemented in our public schools across the nation. Here is an excellent article with videos detailing how the Obama Administration is requiring the public schools in your county through grants (bribes) to adopt Common Core Standards.
Bottom line: the Obama Administration is using your tax money to indoctrinate your children to a Marxist mindset. You can make a difference, as explained below the videos by downloading an OPT-OUT form and submitting that to your local school district.
Terresa Monroe-Hamilton, Noisy Room Blog
I caught Glenn Beck on The Blaze and his excellent showcasing of Obama's Common Core Standards that are now in 45 states, including my state of Idaho. Common Core is Marxism for children. It is state run propaganda and is meant to dumb down and control our little ones. It is evil and it has been a long time coming. Obama pushed it through slyly and quickly after coming into office, but I can tell you, this has been brewing since at least the 1990s.
A little background... When my children were in school in the 1990s, my husband and I requested to see the school curriculum for their school in Las Vegas, Nevada. We were refused and basically told we were too dumb to understand what the teachers were instructing our son and daughter in. The last straw came when they wanted to put my daughter in the second grade on Ritalin instead of disciplining her. I was pulled in front of four teachers and accused of not raising my daughter correctly, as well as basically being an abusive and stupid parent.
I promptly told these teachers that they could pound sand and pulled our children (our son was in third grade at the time) out of school that very same day. I left the Fortune 500 and home schooled both of them till high school and in retrospect, should have kept them out even then. My children could not do the simplest of math or read when we pulled them out. I tested them and started them all over again with the ABEKA home schooling system, which at the time, cost a great deal of money.
Forty-five states, the District of Columbia, four territories, and the Department of Defense Education Activity have adopted the Common Core State Standards.
Has Communist Ideology Overtaken America? Education is crucial. Today I want to share two very interesting lists with you, and rather than adding an extensive amount of my commentary, I want to give you the chance to examine the facts for yourself. It is my opinion that many communist goals have already been accomplished. I also believe that advancement has been made in other areas. But, you owe it to yourself to do your own research. I believe not only in the freedom of speech, but also in the responsibility of free thought. So please don't take my word for it. Examine the facts for yourself.
Again, I want to share two lists with you. The first is a list that was entered into 1963 Congressional Record. The second is the 10 planks of The Communist Manifesto.
If you can't see this happening in America, and a ton of progress being made, then I offer two potential explanations:
You are one of the "useful idiots" of communist teaching.
I am one of the "village idiots" that your Mama probably warned you about.
Some of these points will be open for debate and some will not. In some cases it is blatantly obvious that they have achieved their goals. It is even rumored that our own President has deep communist ties. You might want to check that out as well but I will withhold my opinion at this point. Let's just lay it out and you can interpret it.
This list was originally printed in "The Naked Communist" by Cleon Skousen. It was entered into Congressional Record in 1963 as the 45 goals of "The Communist Takeover of America."

Smart Meters Being Installed in our Area
I want to inform you that PECO Energy, and its subcontractors in the area, have begun converting existing home electric meters to new smart meters. I thought you would appreciate being alerted to this work in the event you notice activity around your neighborhood and, even more to the point, at your house. Please know that, as always, PECO and its subcontractors are required to display photo identification at all times. You have the right to ask to see identification if there is any doubt in your mind as to the authorization of someone to be on your property.
This meter transition is being effected to comply with a 2008 state law that requires utility companies to equip all their customers with smart meters. The intention of the law is to allow customers to conserve energy more easily. Through this technology, customers will be able to monitor their electricity usage in real time and adjust their usage habits if and as desired.
In our area of the state, the conversion process will be happening neighborhood by neighborhood between now and July. Customers will receive letters informing them of when PECO intends on doing the meter replacements in their general area.
Per state law, consumer safeguards have been put in place in conjunction with this smart meter roll out. The meters are equipped with protective measures to ensure that private information cannot be hacked or intercepted. Any information gathered through the use of smart meters cannot be transmitted to a third party without the written consent of you, the customer.
Please know that while some utility companies offer services that will cycle off major appliances during high-demand/high-cost times, these services are not required by state law and actually are unrelated to smart meter installation. Consult with your utility company for details if this service is an option you want to explore.
In closing, if you would like a resource for additional smart meter information, I would suggest the following site maintained by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission: www.papowerswitch.com/ways-to-save-energy.

The United States Supreme Court has concluded oral arguments on California's Proposition 8.
In this morning's Morning Briefing I noted that gay marriage and religious freedom are incompatible. The gay rights movement must drive from the town square those who disagree and must punish and silence those who refuse to surrender their believe that marriage is between a man and woman.
Many people howled in protest over email this morning, denying the incompatibility. The irony is that many howling against me will not be on the side of the church and Christian when the fight comes.
- Christian photographers Elane Photography in New Mexico were approached by a same sex couplelooking to hire a wedding photographer. Elane Photography politely declined citing their Christian faith and were sued by the couple under the state's anti-discriminatory laws, and won. In New Mexico you apparently have no right to your free expression and practice of faith any longer. (Read even more about this case here.)
- In Lexington, Kentucky, a t-shirt shop called Hands On Originals was approached by the Gay and Lesbian Services Organization about printing shirts for the group. The t-shirt company politely declined and even sought out quotes and gave the group referrals to other t-shirt printers along with comparable prices. They were promptly sued by the group under Lexington's anti-discriminatory laws and forced to comply with a lengthy investigation. The city's power-drunk human rights commission said this:
Raymond Sexton, the executive director of the Human Rights Commission told Fox News that "Hands On Originals" will be "required by law to participate in the investigation."
"We have subpoena power and have the backing of the law," he said. "We are a law enforcement agency and people have to comply."
Leftist groups are trying to get the company evicted from their premises, the city now has school districts freezing their business with the privately owned company. Meanwhile, the owner of the company tried to defend his faith and decision in an op/ed in the paper.
- A Methodist church in New Jersey was sued for not offering its facility for use during same sex weddings. A judge ruled against them.
- A same sex couple from California sued a Hawaiian bed and breakfast privately owned by a Christian woman for not allowing them to rent a room.
- A bed and breakfast in Alton privately owned by a Christian couple was sued when they would not host a same sex civil union ceremony.
- Owners of a small, privately-owned inn in Vermont declined to host a same sex wedding reception due to their religious views and were sued.
- An employee of Allstate insurance wrote an essay online disagreeing with same sex marriage and was reportedly fired from his job as a result.
- Catholic Charities was barred from assisting in adoptions in Massachusetts, Washington DC, and Illinois and excluded from future contracts because they declined to consider same sex couples. Sorry kids, but the agenda impresarios need to make an example.
There are even more examples. Please click here to keep reading. This fight has only just begun.Might as well stop trying to convince yourself it hasn't.
There are many, many people denying that gay marriage and religious freedom are incompatible. Many of those who deny it are, in fact, hostile to religious freedom to begin with or, when the fight becomes more clear, will be against the church.
That is a silver lining in the gay marriage fight. Many pastors in America who long ago decided they didn't want the state telling them what to do, so they didn't want the church telling anyone else what to do now realize just what fools they've been. The left will use the state to tell churches what to do or force churches to give up their primary purpose of going and teaching in Jesus's name.
2.The Argument For "Marriage Equality" Is Not A Conservative One
This week the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on same California's Prop 8 and a section of the Defense of Marriage Act which deals with benefits for same sex couples. Same sex marriage is front and center once again and I've heard some interesting arguments on how supporting government involvement in defining marriage is a "conservative" ideal. During the Sunday morning talk show circuit, former Bush communications adviser took the moderate position emerging within the GOP against American Values' Gary Bauer. Nicole Wallace tried to argue that supporting "marriage equality" is a conservative position. No, it is not.. . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3.Return-free filing and interest-free politics
An interesting story at ProPublica, prepared with assistance from NPR, chronicles efforts to bring "return-free tax filing" to the United States. It's a system already used in a few other countries, and more-or-less duplicated by a few business partnerships in the U.S., but it's something the Internal Revenue Service could implement nationwide.. . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4.Victims of Government: Stephen Lathrop and the Army Corps of Engineers.
Short version: Stephen Lathrop lives in an area in Illinois that routinely floods and is just as routinely gets declared to be a disaster area. The Army Corps of Engineers - a group that I had hitherto thought, perhaps foolishly, to be somewhat more competent than it's appearing here - had drawn up a bunch of plans to alleviate the problem. As the Corps had never actually fixed the problem, Mr. Lathrop eventually did it for his local area by buying an old dump, getting the permits to convert it into a lake, and doing the conversion on his own dime ('dime' being defined as '200,000 dollars'). As a reward, the Corps responded in 1990 by suing Lathrop, despite the fact that his conversion was roughly similar to the Corps' multiple plans (and, more importantly, worked in 1995 to prevent flooding in Mr. Lathrop's neighborhood). The Corps eventually handed the entire issue over to the EPA for prosecution, and then the EPA... essentially said to make the lake bigger, and everything would be fine*. So Lathrop spent another 100,000 dollars to expand the lake property... only to be told by the Corps that he couldn't do that. Now the guy's almost in bankruptcy... over twenty years after deciding that it'd be great if his neighborhood stopped flooding.
Even shorter version: The Army Corps of Engineers has spent the last two-plus decades punishing a guy for the crime at being better at flood prevention than it is. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

Proof that this dhimmi posture of Israel's will only lead to more demands of humiliation and degradation is the latest reports regarding new U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry's vision of breaking the impasse between the PA and Israel. It would involve Israel releasing terrorists and transferring land in Area B, under joint Israeli/PA control, to Area A, which is totally Arab controlled. In addition, Obama and Netanyahu might have agreed on a "silent construction freeze," one that is unannounced but is the reality.
AFSI joins Prof. Steve Plaut in his denunciation of the Netanyahu APOLOGY.
An open letter to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Prime Minister of Turkey
Dear Mister Prime Minister:
On behalf of all of the people of Israel, I would like to apologize to you for the cowardice and fathomless idiocy of the Prime Minister of Israel. As you know, this weekend Benjamin Netanyahu sent you an "apology" for Israel having defended itself against the genocidal terrorists who attacked Israeli soldiers armed only with paintguns when they boarded the terrorist "flotilla" ship that you sent out to challenge Israel's naval blockade of the Hamas enclave in Gaza.
Netanyahu spoke only for himself when he apologized to you for Israel's defending itself and its people, this two generations after the Holocaust. He does not represent anyone at all in the country when it comes to this "apology." No one else in the country, except for some anti-Israel radical leftists with tenure at the universities, agrees that Israel owes you an apology for defending its people.
Actually, on behalf of all REAL Israelis, I would like to apologize to you for the fact that ONLY nine terrorists were killed by Israeli troops on the flotilla ship when Israeli soldiers were savagely attacked by Turkish and other terrorists. I would like to apologize for the fact that Israeli did NOT torpedo and sink the terrorist ships trying to break the blockade and bring in aid to the Hamas Nazis. I would like to apologize for the fact that Israel has a Prime Minister who is so clueless, insensitive, and divorced from Jewish history that he would consider buying a few moments of diplomat calm with a Moslem aggressor by shaming his entire country with an "apology" to Turkey, exhibiting one of the most disgraceful acts by a Jew in all of history, and all this just hours before the Jewish holiday of national liberation, Passover.
Beyond that, I really do think that Israel owes an apology for NOT having done much more to draw the world's attention to the illegal occupation and destruction by Turkey of the jewel of Cyprus, the city of Famagusta. Israel sat by while Turkey conquered 40% of Cyprus and transferred tens of thousands of its own people as illegal settlers to the island. And for that I apologize. And since you have spent so much time in recent years denouncing Israel as an occupier, I think Israel owes an apology to the world for not helping to end the illegal Turkish occupation of the great ancient Greek capital of Constantinople, now under an illegal Saracen occupation that has continued for far too long. It is high time that Constantinople be returned to its true heritage and its legal owners, the Greek people. It is less than a hundred years since the city, along with Smyrna and other Greek homelands, was almost liberated by the Greeks, who were only to be blocked by the Turkish military aggressors, the mass murderers of the Armenians.
So Mister Prime Minister, as you see, I am afraid that Israelis DO owe the world quite a few apologies.
On behalf of the non-pusillanimous citizens of Israel, I remain

Antonio Gramsci called for Communists to spread their ideology in a gradual, incremental, stealth manner, by infiltrating all existing societal institutions and embedding it, largely without being noticed, in the popular mind. This approach has been widely adopted by the modern American Left.

Iraq and immigration have one thing in common. Both are founded on the assumption that national political philosophies can be universally applied to any population with the same results.
The same leftists and radical libertarians who mocked the idea that Iraqis could be successfully
transformed through democracy insist millions of illegal aliens from countries every bit as violent and unstable as Iraq can be successfully transformed by giving them legal status and the vote.
Both assumptions were and are wrong. They are both symptoms of an internationalism that assumes a favorite political philosophy that works in the United States can be applied internationally without regard for culture. And internationalism invariably undermines the nation by prioritizing an ideology over the rights and interests of the citizenry.
Internationalism is always unsustainable. Even the USSR was not able to sustain the call for a World Revolution for very long. Early efforts on the part of American radicals to champion anti-monarchial revolutions across Europe ended miserably with the French Revolution which threw its champion, Thomas Paine into a cell and marked him for execution.
The invasion of Iraq was an attempt to deal with a threat. The reconstruction of Iraq attempted to transform it in accordance with the belief that democracy could be applied anywhere with positive results. Not only did democracy not stabilize Iraq, it destabilized it and turned it into a playground for every stripe of Islamists from Al Qaeda to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard with our soldiers caught in the middle.
Most Americans accepted the logic of removing a potential threat. And that phase of the Iraq War went cleanly and with relatively few casualties. But few Americans were interested in a prolonged exercise undertaken on behalf of the people we had just been fighting. They saw no national interest in making over Iraq in line with international ideals.
The transition from an invasion for a national interest to an occupation for an international interest shifted the justification away from nationalism to internationalism.
President Obama, left, and Jordan's King Abdullah in Amman, Jordan March 22, 2013
VOA NewsMarch 22, 2013
U.S. President Barack Obama has praised Jordanian King Abdullah for taking a stand against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, saying Washington will give an additional $200 million to Jordan to help shoulder the burden of refugees fleeing into that country.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Amman on Friday following talks with King Abdullah, Obama commended the Jordanian monarch for being "the first Arab leader to call on Assad to step down."
King Abdullah, who noted that as many as 460,000 Syrian refugees are in Jordan, said his country will not close the border for refugees. He stressed the need for the international community to help resolve what he called a "humanitarian calamity."
In addition to bilateral and strategic issues, the two leaders say they discussed the Israeli-Palestinian issue during closed-door talks.
Both reiterated the need for peace talks to resume. Obama warned that the "window of opportunity" for such talks was slowly closing, while King Abdullah added that the two-state solution is "the only way to go."
The Republican Party seems riven these days over the issue of same-sex marriage. The debate is everywhere. But they are all missing the forest for the proverbial trees. America's problem isn't gay marriage; it's marriage.

To the White House, the capture earlier this month of Osama bin Laden's son-in-law is another feather in the cap of the administration's self-touted terrorism fighting chops. To congressional Republicans, it threatens to go down in history as a giant missed opportunity at best and deadly national security flub at worst - thanks to the "apparent rush" to bring him to trial in a New York federal court.
A fellow Patriot sent this over to me. Now the republican party (Val DiGiorgio Chairman of the Chester Co. Committee and lawyer) gave $1,000 to sponsor a buyback gun program in the city of Coatesville, PA. This is another step to gun control and the republicans are promoting it. Is there really a difference between either party? I say no. Send this to everyone you know.
COATESVILLE - City Council agreed to endorse and help fund a gun buyback program Monday night.
Coatesville Police Officer Rodger Ollis said the buyback program is part of an ongoing effort known as Gang Resistance Education and Training, or GREAT, a 13-lesson program for Scott Middle School sixth-graders. One of those lessons is about the connections linking gangs, drugs, crime and violence.
"We're trying to change the way people act by changing the way they think," Ollis said.
The buyback program is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at the Coatesville Memorial Community Center, and its organizers have raised at least $9,300 from supporters. On Monday the Chester County Republican Party donated $1,000 to the Coatesville Youth Initiative for the program.
Diamondback Police Supply owner Douglas MacKinlay has halted Mark Kelly's attempted purchase of an AR-15 over concerns that Kelly was not in fact buying the gun for himself, and therefore could not have passed question 11a of the NICS background check form 4473.
You'll recall Kelly's AR-15 had been on hold for 20 days because it was trade-in firearm, and during those 20 days Kelly has not been shy about the fact that his plan was to buy the gun and give it to someone else all along.
An Arizona gun store cancelled a purchase made by former Congresswoman Gabby Giffordss husband Mark Kelly. On March 5th, Kelly visited Diamondback Police Supply in Tucson, selected an AR-15 style rifle, a .45 caliber handgun, and some high capacity magazines, completed a background check and paid for his purchases. Learn why the store cancelled the AR purchase and refunded Mark Kelly's moneyHERE.

Sex Week and Spring Break are two phenomena happening each year on America's college campuses for which struggling parents pay hard earned tuition dollars as alums glorify abject debauchery parading as the latest form of academia's political correctness. The Sex Week displays at six major universities including Yale and my alma mater, the University of Illinois, held this past February in Champaign, leave me utterly speechless. When an undergrad degree is now criticized as being little more than an eighth grade diploma, why on earth would we support such decadence, decay, and destruction of the coming generations which will be tasked with running our country?
Scott Greer, writer for the web site Campus Reform says of the U of Illinois sex week speakers: "A residence hall at the University of Illinois has invited Annie Sprinkle, a famous porn star from the 1970's and 80's, to conduct a sex education week, which is set to culminate ... How is it that when a person disagrees politically with a teacher, suddenly said teacher is "indoctrinating" students instead of teaching them?
OK, I admit it: I indoctrinated students. I indoctrinated them that their job was being a student. Instead of a check, they got paid every nine weeks with a report card. At the end of four years' service, they got a "bonus": a diploma. I indoctrinated them by telling them to consider their "paycheck" an investment account that, once earned, no one could take away from them. I told them a diploma didn't make them an educated person, but it was evidence of perseverance, and was a step in their lifelong education in Reality 101.

As anyone who's been following events in Venezuela with even half an eye knows, provisional president Nicolás Maduro (named by the late strongman Hugo Chávez as his chosen successor) has been talking as if the sovereignty of the country depends on his election in a few weeks. Before the late president's body was quite cold, Maduro was making noises about how the CIA or some agency of the US had infected the former with cancer, and turned aside conciliatory messages from our eunuch-like State Department (even though it sent an official, if low-level, delegation to the funeral). The degree of anti-American hysteria in the Venezuelan official media has reached the point where it would seem that the US, rather than Capriles (or someone else) is going to be on the ballot against Maduro.
I've known Venezuela for forty years and traveled there many times. I would have regarded as one of the more pro-US, or at least US-oriented countries in the region. Of course, there were historical reasons for this. We never occupied the country (as in the case of Cuba, Haiti or the Dominican Republic); we never invaded it or won slices of its territory through war (as in the case of Mexico); we supported its (flawed but dynamic) democracy for a half-century, and even the dictatorship to which we turned a blind eye in the 1950s was later ideologically vindicated by Chávez himself. Moreover, we provided Venezuela with a large, stable and productive market for its only important export-oil.
So I have been wondering these last ten years why all of a sudden has anti-Americanism become the currency of regime discourse..
Of course part of the reason is obvious-a need to distract ordinary people from shortages of food and medicine, the high (and rising) homicide rate, the rapid deterioration of roads, bridges and other elements of infrastructure, the lush corruption and so forth.
But I think the more important reason is envy. Not envy of the United States, but envy of "white" Venezuela-the people who speak English, went to school in the United States, probably have homes and children there, and move back and forth between the two countries with ease. This group was not enormous but it was larger than in most Latin American countries, and more conspicuous.
One might even say that the major social divide within the middle class in Venezuela was between those who spoke English well and those who did not. The obvious inequalities of the society (not to mention the corruption) was associated with that elite, and by default, with the United States. The presumption seemed to be that if the US could be factored out of the Venezuelan imagination, the country would find itself and be truly sovereign for the first time in its life. To be sure, this is a fantasy, but an understandable one given Venezuela's unconfessed inferiority complex.
Chávez wanted people to be proud of their country as it was, not regard it as a slum-level copy of Southern Florida. To do this he had to humiliate the people whose values and lifestyles had long been held up as the index of happiness and success. Anti-Americanism in Venezuela is nothing personal; it's not about us, it's about them.
The transcript of the oral argument in the Prop 8 case is now available. So is the audio.
I haven't reviewed either yet.
Ed Whelan has. His review finds him "much more optimistic than some commentators that the Court will find that Prop 8 proponents have standing and will vote to uphold Prop 8."
Thanks to Andrew Johnson and NRO's Corner for drawing attention to the highly entertaining Anderson Cooper/Drew Griffin report on "Obama's high-speed rail boondoggle." Johnson writes: "Cooper and investigative reporter Drew Griffin reported that, while the administration sold its $12 billion in projects as high-speed rail, the funding has spent has largely been used to make existing trains slightly faster. In Washington State, for instance, $800 million have been used to reduce the length of the trip from Seattle to Portland by 10 minutes." Can we sequester this?
Tom Goldstein, as shrewd an observer of the Supreme Court as anyone I'm aware of, believes that the Court "probably will not have the five votes necessary to get to any result at all, and almost certainly will not have five votes to decide the merits of whether Proposition 8 is constitutional." The Court could avoid reaching the merits by deciding that the defenders of Prop 8 lack standing to defend it, the State of California having declined to do so. It could also simply decide that it shouldn't have agreed to hear the case. But Goldstein doubts that there are five votes for either of these results.
In any event, Goldstein is convinced that Justice Kennedy will not provide either side with the fifth vote needed to decide the merits of the case:
[Kennedy] was deeply concerned with the wisdom of acting now when in his view the social science of the effects of same-sex marriage is uncertain because it is so new. He also noted the doubts about the petitioners' standing. So his suggestion was that the case should be dismissed.
Thus, for example, the Court might split 4-4 on the merits, with Kennedy refusing to reach them on, say, standing grounds.
If Goldstein is right that there aren't five votes to decide the merits, the decision striking down Prop 8 will not be overturned. However, it will not receive approval from the Supreme Court.
I have made it clear that I don't believe the Supreme Court has any business deciding the same-sex marriage issue. But, of course, neither do lower courts.
Thus, a decision ducking the issue isn't satisfactory. Given the sad state of our constitutional jurisprudence, the Court's best course would be to strike down the lower court's decision and try to develop a more modest, limited view of the empire of courts.
A decision finding that the petitioners lack standing to defend Prop 8 would be particularly unsatisfying. For one thing, such a decision would be legally flawed.
For another, the decision would be profoundly undemocratic. It would mean that the voters of California lost their right to enact their will through a normal, quintessentially democratic process because the state's politicians effectively vetoed their decision.
Jim Palmer once said of Earl Weaver, after the manager had offered the Hall of Fame pitcher a tip, "All Weaver knows about pitching is he couldn't hit it."
As I write this, the Supreme Court of the United States is preparing to hear oral argument in a case where the core question is the rationality/utility of the age-old definition of marriage. I'm tempted to say of some of the nine jurists who will pass judgment on the definition of marriage, "All they know about marriage is that theirs didn't work."
But this observation would be too harsh. The Justices not only know whether their marriage worked, they also know whether their parents' marriage worked, and may understand why the marriages they experienced and witnessed close-up worked or didn't. In other words, they know as little about marriage as the rest of us.
So I'll be content with this observation: The fact that the Supreme Court may be about to pass judgment on the age-old definition of marriage is the reductio ad absurdum of American constitutional jurisprudence. That we have reached this point tells us that the Supreme Court has taken some terribly wrong turns.
The fact that, until very recently, marriage has universally been deemed to require an opposite sex component doesn't mean that this component must be required forevermore. But a decent appreciation of democracy, human history, and the fallibility of the individual means that nine glorified lawyers shouldn't be the ones who make the change. Nor should they be in a position where they might make it.

Will High Court Redefine Marriage?
The United States Supreme Court today heard arguments in a case challenging Proposition 8 -- California's voter-approved constitutional amendment defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. It is unclear how the court will rule. Most observers expect Justice Anthony Kennedy to provide the deciding vote in a 5-to-4 decision. In two previous cases involving homosexual rights, Kennedy sided with the court's liberal majority.
That said, supporters of same-sex marriage cannot take Kennedy's vote for granted. While writing the majority opinion striking down state anti-sodomy laws in Lawrence v. Texas, Kennedy also wrote that his decision "does not involve whether the government must give formal recognition to any relationship that homosexual persons seek to enter." Translation: Kennedy was not embracing the concept of men "marrying" other men -- at least not in 2003.
The justices may be hesitant to issue a sweeping ruling that invalidates the laws of dozens of states, many of which were approved at the ballot box by the voters specifically to prevent judges from redefining marriage. Even a left-wing activist like Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a former ACLU attorney, concedes that Roe v. Wade was a mistake. At a legal symposium last year she remarked, "It's not that the judgment was wrong, but it moved too far too fast." Well, she's half right -- the judgment and the timing were both wrong.
As for the conservatives, all eyes are Chief Justice John Roberts. He stunned conservatives and brought joy to the White House with his support for Obamacare, albeit on relatively narrow grounds. And a homosexual family member who attended today's arguments at the Supreme Court believes Roberts will rule against Proposition 8.
If the court desires, it can dodge the issue completely. The question of standing and the court's jurisdiction has come up in both the Proposition 8 case and the challenge to the federal Defense of Marriage case because neither the state government nor the federal government were willing to defend the pro-marriage laws. The justices took the unusual step of asking for an additional brief by Harvard Law Professor Vicki Jackson specifically addressing this issue. You can read more about that here.
Will The GOP Marriage Survive This Fight?
As loyal readers of this daily report know, I have strenuously argued against avoiding third parties and dividing the conservative vote. As the Ross Perot/Reform Party experience of the 1990s demonstrated, splitting the conservative vote simply guarantees the election of liberal Democrats.
But the statements and actions of some Republican elites in recent days makes me wonder whether we are at the point where all options are on the table. If the party in which values voters have made their home is not willing to fight for our values, then what is the point of us fighting for that party?
The GOP is a coalition, a political marriage of economic conservatives, defense conservatives and social conservatives. But coalitions only work when each member knows that it is being taken seriously and that its cause is advancing.
Now some party elites are suggesting that we should be "welcoming and inclusive" to those who disagree with us on values issues. Why? Should the GOP welcome tax hikers and big government proponents too? Or is it just life and marriage that are to be sacrificed?
I am acutely aware of our debt crisis and the growth of big government and what they will do to America. But if we continue to lose on values -- religious liberty, the sanctity of life, what children are taught about right and wrong, the meaning of marriage -- it won't matter if we balance our fiscal budget. Our moral/virtue deficit will kill the American dream.
In fact, I would argue that if we lose these issues we won't balance the budget. A huge part of our fiscal crisis is the result of the breakdown of the family and the demand for more government programs and spending to clean up the resulting damage.
We will have lost the America our Founding Fathers created in 1776. They believed that our rights came from God, not government. They believed that only a moral, virtuous people could remain free. They believed in ordered liberty under God.
Anyone who thinks we need a "values truce," or who suggests we should toss aside life, liberty and marriage in order to deal with the "important" stuff, is missing the crisis that is plaguing America's urban centers and spreading rapidly -- the breakdown of the family. Nearly half of all children today are born to unwed mothers.
There is a moral dimension to marriage, and to suggest otherwise is simply absurd. But I would ask my libertarian friends this question: If the country can't get marriage right, why would such a country ever get the moral dimension of imposing debt on the next generation? If we can't comprehend the sanctity of life, why should we understand the virtue of balanced budgets?
For too many years the Republican Party has treated values issues as the caboose on the train and treated values voters as though they belonged on the back of the bus. My sense is that an increasing number of people are unwilling to give up their seats to party elites who demand they move. If they are pushed enough, they may abandon the GOP completely and look for another vehicle to advance their values.
Here's the bottom line as I see it: We've got one more round of congressional elections in 2014 and one more presidential battle in 2016. If we cannot come up with candidates for the House and the Senate who can make the case for Reagan conservatism, where family values and the sanctity of life were a central part of the message, and if the party can't come up with a nominee who can prevail in 2016, I believe we will have lost the country.
My friends, I am concerned, but I want you to know that I am not giving up. I have made a springtime resolution -- I am going to devote a significant amount of time each day to telling Republican leaders that they are on the verge of presiding over the dissolution of the Republican Party. If they are under the impression that they can replace faith-based values voters with enough feminists, gay rights activists or libertarians, then they must be smoking some of that medical marijuana.
The Senate budget proposal prepared by Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), a version of which passed the Senate last week, calls for raising taxes by more than $975 billion over the next decade. This would cripple the economy and cost hundreds of thousands of jobs, according to a report by The Heritage Foundation's Center for Data Analysis.
The plan would slow the economy by hiking business and investment taxes, Heritage's Rea Hederman and John Ligon explain. "The slowdown in business investment and capital in the U.S. economy contributes to a slowdown of $1.4 trillion in real economic output and an average 853,000 U.S. jobs over the 10-year forecast period."
But it also would do nothing to fix the budget. Instead, it "would ramp up spending immediately and raise taxes yet higher while continuing chronic deficits that rise higher in later years," Heritage's J.D. Foster writes.
Neither the House budget nor the Senate budget comes close to proposing as comprehensive a plan as The Heritage Foundation does in Saving the American Dream, which was highlighted last week on the Senate floor, when Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) cited Heritage Foundation research on the effects of the liberal Senate budget proposal. Click here to see the video.
While neither budget plan is ideal, the House budget certainly moves much closer in the right direction.
During his first official visit to Israel last week, Heritage's Amy Payne explains, President Obama had to assuage our ally's concerns. Netanyahu, Payne reminds us, "has reinforced Israel's resolve to protect itself if threatened, and the U.S. should stand firmly behind him."
The Obama Doctrine has made our nation weaker by depleting our defenses and placing irresponsible "hope" in belligerent nations like Iran and North Korea. And for all the hope President Obama seems to exhibit in other nations, he has little for ours. As Heritage's Kim Holmes and James Carafano have written:
The tenets of the Obama Doctrine...do not suit either this geopolitical reality or someone who believes in America's obligation and ability to lead. Rather, they suit someone who believes he is managing America's decline in a "post-American" world.
A recent Breitbart article highlights an important success for our sister organization, Heritage Action for America. On January 22, Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) publicly came out in favor of balancing the budget.
Boehner's statement came about thanks to a conservative coalition including The Heritage Foundation's sister organization, Heritage Action for America. Read more here.

How much are we spending on education? Actually, far more than we know-because as it turns out, states are hiding some of the teachers' benefits.
In a new paper, Heritage expert Jason Richwine reveals that "Proper accounting would reveal tens of billions of dollars in extra teacher pension costs, equivalent to somewhere around $1,000 in unreported spending per student."
That's right-the real cost of education is far higher than we've been told, but it's not because of extra classroom resources or newer facilities. It's because of teachers' pensions.
Richwine explains:
This undercounting occurs because the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) allows states to define teacher pension costs as whatever school districts happen to contribute to their pension funds each year, rather than the amount needed to pay for future pension benefits.
This is not just an accounting problem-it's a matter of transparency about the real cost of teacher pensions. Governments routinely contribute less than is needed to cover future pension benefits, but those benefits are guaranteed. That means taxpayers must cover the full costs, sooner or later.
Because pension benefits are guaranteed by state law and often by state constitutions, underfunding pension plans today does not reduce benefits or save money in the long term. It simply delays paying for steadily accruing benefits, forcing future taxpayers to deal with the growing problem.
Thankfully, this transparency problem can be fixed-states and local school districts just have to own up to the real costs of their teacher benefit programs.
Richwine says that "The NCES should revise its data collection procedures to require proper accounting of teacher pension costs, giving taxpayers a more accurate picture of education expenditures."
Some well-regarded commentators are hinting that conservatives should oppose the Defense of Marriage Act, since regulating marriage should be left to the states. But as Matthew Spalding explains, DOMA didn't impose a single federal definition of marriage but simply laid out a standard for the federal government to follow. By doing so, it actually protected the rights of all 50 states.
A third birthday is often a cause for celebration. But that's certainly not the case for Obamacare, which was signed into law on March 23 three years ago. The law has never enjoyed majority support and is likely to become even more unpopular as insurance premiums soar starting next year. Meanwhile, the fight to stop Obamacare is far from over. It's simply moved into a new and promising arena: state legislatures.
This week, the Supreme Court will hear arguments in two cases that could decide the future of traditional marriage. Law professor John Eastman dissects the cases and explains why it's crucial that marriage remain what it has always been: the union of one man and one woman.
Quote of the Week
"Marriage is treated by all civilized societies as a peculiar and favored contract. It is in its origin a contract of natural law. ... It is the parent, and not the child of society; the source of civility and a sort of seminary of the republic."
Founded in 1973, The Heritage Foundation is a research and educational institute - a think tank - whose mission is to formulate and promote conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense.
The Salmon Rule is a vital way for conservatives in the House of Representatives to stop big-government legislation, and it could not have come at a better time. In fact, it is one of the tools conservatives possess to reverse the tide of irresponsible, liberal bills being passed.
Congress is about to make monumental decisions regarding guns, immigration, and the debt limit. None of these matters are insignificant, and conservatives must fight for the Constitution, our freedom, and economic prosperity. With every vote, freedom either advances or recedes, which means conservatives must treat procedural votes as the policy votes they are.
By supporting the Salmon Rule, you will be telling Congress to vote against any procedural Rule on a bill that increases spending and doesn't have the support of the majority of the majority. Even though Congress is in recess, your Representative needs to know you support this effort to uphold conservative principles.
Thanks for supporting conservative accountability for Congress,

SCOTUS Considers Same-Sex Marriage, Part 1: Hollingsworth v. Perry
This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Ken Klukowski was published March 25, 2013 on Breitbart.com.
The Supreme Court will hear two historic cases this week on marriage: Hollingsworth v. Perry and United States v. Windsor. And they could fundamentally transform American society.
This would be an easy case with clear adherence to two constitutional principles. Prop 8 and DOMA would both be upheld. Now we'll find out how those two principles fare before the nine justices currently on the Supreme Court. Part I is about Hollingsworth, and Part II is about Windsor.
This is Part I, the Hollingsworth case:
California voters passed Proposition 22 in 2000, defining marriage in that state as one man and one woman. When the California Supreme Court ruled that this violated the California Constitution, the voters of California promptly amended their constitution with Proposition 8, reaffirming marriage is between one man and one woman.
This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published March 25, 2013 on The Washington Times website.
Over the past few weeks, the "war on marriage" has turned into a blitzkrieg.
It's all designed to sway the Supreme Court, which will be hearing arguments this week on California's voter-approved constitutional marriage amendment and the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
A day doesn't pass without another bomb dropped on the oldest human institution. If it's not another slanted poll, negatively worded to elicit the "correct" response, it's a politician sharing his sudden revelation that God didn't know what He was doing when He created marriage as the union of male and female.
Left And Right Extremists Fail To See Paul Ryan's Win-Win Entitlement Reform
This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published March 24, 2013 on Forbes.com.
The New York Times told its readers on March 12 that Paul Ryan's proposed 2014 budget involves "eliminating Medicare's guarantee to retirees" and "dispensing with Medicaid and food stamps...." But Joe Farah, CEO of WND News, told his readers on March 15 that Ryan's budget "fails to address unsustainable 'entitlement' programs." They cannot both be right. But they can both be grievously wrong.
We hear a lot of talk about how Ryan's proposed traditional budget is so "extreme." But it is these two comments that represent the extremes on the issue. This kind of disconnected from reality rhetoric from both sides is what makes our democracy dysfunctional, unable to seriously discuss major issues.

Breitbart.com.The NRA is taking New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to court as Cuomo prepares to run for president in 2016.
The National Rifle Association is supporting a lawsuit filed by its state affiliate, the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association, whose president, Tom King, serves on the NRA board of directors.
In its complaint filed Mar. 21, the lawsuit challenges two provisions of Cuomo's new gun-control law: one that bans a made-up type of firearm some politicians call "assault weapons" (there is no such type of firearm--it's a collection of various types of guns that look scary but function like ordinary guns), and also the provision that bans ammunition magazines that hold more than seven rounds.

Gay Marriage by Fiat? In his new column, Rich Lowry says supporters of gay marriage are "asking the Supreme Court to declare the traditional definition of marriage - and by extension everyone who adheres to it - irrational and bigoted. They want to short-circuit democratic deliberation via court ruling as great cultural ukase." It's a powerful piece. Please read it and share it with your friends.

CNN goes public on whether it's liberal
For years, you've known what kind of programming CNN has put on the air.
Now finally, the CEO of Turner Broadcasting which owns CNN, has just gone on the record about whether the cable news network is liberal or not.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Banks wrote off $3 billion of student loan debt in the first two months of 2013, up more than 36 percent from the year-ago period, as many graduates remain jobless, underemployed or cash-strapped in a slow U.S. economic recovery, an Equifax study showed.
The credit reporting agency also said Monday that student lending has grown from last year because more people are going back to school and the cost of higher education has risen. Read More:
Our fine universities teach some tough stuff like chemistry, biology, calculus, economics, and various other things I can pronounce. Maybe we need a course that explains the term "I agree to pay................"
They should also have a truth in lending course. In law school all the loan companies were more than willing to openly defraud the student public by posting exaggerated first year earnings, making the loans seam trivial compared to what the students would make upon graduation.
Harry Reid announced that the Senate will start debating immigration legislation after Easter, when it returns to Washington on April 6th. Senators are in their home states this weekend, and they will stay there through April 5th. We need you to contact your Senators while they are at home to tell them you expect them to oppose Amnesty!
As many of you remember, there was a similar effort in 2007 to impose amnesty for illegal aliens on the American people. At that time, Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation released an exhaustive analysis indicating that the cost of amnesty would exceed $2 trillion - and that was before ObamaCare! Rector and his team are working feverishly to update these numbers, but because ObamaCare is such a complex beast, that analysis is still under way.
Amnesty advocates on both sides of the aisle are working to secure amnesty for the wrong reasons, some to buy votes, others to secure cheap labor, but we need the grassroots to rise up and demand that our representatives secure the American dream for everyone!
Amnesty is not fiscally sustainable.
Amnesty will harm all Americans, especially the most vulnerable among us, the least educated. Amnesty advocates are claiming that there is a "labor shortage," however, a recent study from the Center for Immigration Studies notes that unemployment is close to 20% nationwide for Americans with no more than a high school education. Interestingly, the states represented by Senators who are part of the "Gang of 8" coalition working on an amnesty bill, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York and South Carolina have the highest levels of unemployment, all over 20%.
All of those unemployed Americans must survive somehow, if not through employment, it will be through taxpayer-funded welfare programs. Additionally, the Center for Immigration Studies estimates that because illegal immigrants often consume more in government programs than they pay in taxes, amnesty would add approximately $29 billion to the federal deficit.
These levels are unsustainable, and the result is to make the American dream more difficult for everyone to attain. A study of immigrants from 1970-2000 indicated that immigrants today are much poorer and less likely to own a home than immigrants in decades past. We must reverse this trend instead of creating a permanent underclass!
Immigration Reform Must Begin With Securing our Borders.
As Senator Rand Paul recently noted, immigration reform must begin with securing our borders. A recent Rassmussen Poll noted that even among amnesty supporters, 64% believe that the U.S. must secure its borders. As Phyllis explained in her recent column, throughout the years, border enforcement measures like building a fence along America's southern border and creating an entry/exit tracking system have been promised and signed into law in connection with amnesty. The amnesty took effect, but the enforcement mechanisms did not.
We Won't Accept More Backroom Deals!
President Obama promised that his presidency would be marked by openness and transparency, yet we've seen one piece of expensive, broad, sweeping legislation after another. Immigration policy should be debated in the open, subject to constituent accountability and input. It should not be worked out in back room deals among eight Senators. Senate Judiciary Committee Members Chuck Grassley, Jeff Sessions, Ted Cruz, John Cornyn, Orrin Hatch and Mike Lee sent a letter to Senate Judiciary Chairman Pat Leahy urging him to conduct open and transparent reform proceedings. We must echo this demand!
Please take a moment to call or visit your Senators at their local offices while they are home for Easter recess. If they are having town hall meetings or similar forums, we need you to attend and to tell them to take a stand against amnesty. It was the grassroots that rose up and stopped a similar attempt at amnesty in 2006, and we can do it again!

Starbucks CEO to Christian shareholders: Buy stock elsewhere
Let Starbucks CEO Howard Shultz know you don't agree with his company's aggressive attempts to re-define marriage.
March 26, 2013
At the annual shareholder's meeting last week, Starbucks CEO, Howard Shultz, insulted Christians throughout the country by suggesting they buy stocks in other coffee businesses if they do not agree with his position on same-sex marriage. It is no surprise that Starbucks supports homosexual marriage.
They have been sending liberal messages for years. But this is beyond anything we have seen from the left or the right. Shultz went as far as to tell shareholders who support Christian values to sell their stock and support other companies.
According to ChristianNews.net, Tom Strobhar, a shareholder, raised a question during the shareholder's meeting about the significant drop in sales after a boycott from the National Organization for Marriage, who was protesting Starbucks support of homosexual marriage in Washington state.
See this interview in which Starbucks shareholder Tom Strobhar explains what happened at the meeting. It includes a clip of Mr. Shultz' comments.
"In the first full quarter after this boycott was announced, our sales and our earnings, shall we say politely, were a bit disappointing," said Strobhar.
In response, Starbucks' CEO Shultz said the company's decision to support gay marriage was not an economic one and snidely suggested Strobhar and other Christians who support natural marriage can take their investment elsewhere.
"If you feel, respectfully, that you can get a higher return than the 38% you got last year, it's a free country. You can sell your shares in Starbucks and buy shares in another company. Thank you very much."
TAKE ACTION
1. Send an email to Starbucks CEO Howard Shultz, asking the company to remain neutral in the issue of gay marriage. We have prepared a letter for you to send. If you are a customer, please add your personal note to the message.
2. If you are a Starbucks shareholder, consider taking Mr. Shultz' advice and sell your Starbucks stock.
3. Take strong action by resolving to no longer support Starbucks by taking your business elsewhere.
Send an email to Starbucks CEO Howard Shultz now!
It is very important that you forward this alert to your friends and family members.
Sincerely,
Tim Wildmon, President American Family Association
Who Killed the New Majority? By Patrick J. Buchanan When the obituary of the party is written, the subhead will likely read "Dead of Self-inflicted Wounds."
Are We Equal? By Walter E. Williams The answer is probably a big fat no, and the pretense or assumption that we are equal - or should be equal - is foolhardy and creates mischief. Let's look at it.
[PROG OFF] Notions like "sacrifice" and "ecstatic righteousness of youth" may sound admirable, but Grathwohl, who lived underground with the real characters, witnessed "a world of hatred, drugs, and free sex." He saw, up close, a gang of thugs who admired the Manson killers, plotted bombings, murders, and political assassinations, and aimed to overthrow the constitutionally elected US government. There is nothing sacrificial about terrorists who shoot up a police station and boast, "Our lawyers will make fools of the pigs."
The Weather Underground was not anti-war; it was pro-war. It waged war on the United States, in close consultation with foreign enemies of the U.S. in such places as Hanoi and Havana.
