Quote:
Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man gainst his own bosom. Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American... [T]he unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people.

As another Passover begins, the echoes of "Once we were slaves and now we are free" and "Next year in Jerusalem" resound briefly and then fade into the background noise of everyday life. We can board a plane tomorrow and fly off to Jerusalem. Some of us are already there now. But will that make us free?
Since Egypt we have become slaves again, lived under the rule of iron-fisted tyrants and forgotten what the very idea of freedom means. And that will likely happen again and again until the age ends. What is this freedom that we gained with the fall of a Pharaoh and the last sight of his pyramids and armies?
Freedom like slavery, is as much a state of mind as a state of being. It is possible to be legally free, yet to have no freedom of action whatsoever. And it is possible to be legally a slave and yet to be free in defiance of those restrictions. External coercion alone does not make a man free or slave, it is the degradation of mind that makes a man a slave.
What is a slave? A slave is complicit in his own oppression. His slavery has become his natural state and he looks to his master, not to free him, but to command him. Had the Jews of Egypt merely been restrained by physical coercion, it would have been enough to directly and immediately smash the power of the Egyptian state. But their slavery was mental. They moaned not at the fact of slavery, but at the extremity of it. When their taskmasters complained to Pharaoh, it was not of slavery, but of not being given the straw with which to build the bricks.
The worst slavery is of the most insidious kind. It leaves the slave able to think and act, but not as a free man. It leaves him with cunning, but not courage. He is able to use force, but only to bring other slaves into line. And most hideously, this state of affairs seems moral and natural to him. This is his freedom.
The true slave has come to love big brother, to worship at the foot of the system that oppresses him. It is this twisted love that must be torn out of him. It is this idolatry of the whip before which he kneels, this panting to know who his superior and who his inferiors are, this love of a vast order that allows him to be lost in its wonders, to gaze in awe at the empire of tomorrow which builds its own tombs today, that must be broken. These are his gods and he must kill them within himself to be free.
The Exodus is not the story of the emergence of free men who were enslaved, but the slow painful process by which slaves became a nation of free men, a long troubled journey which has not yet ended. That is why we celebrate Passover, not as an event of the past, but as of a road that we still travel, a long journey from slavery to freedom.
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms ... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. ... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." --Cesare Beccaria

Editor's Note: Connecticut is the latest state looking to tighten gun control by infringing on the rights of law abiding citizens. On March 14, frustrated resident Robert Steed gave a powerful testimony in front of state legislators. The following are a few of Steed's remarks, which demonstrate a clear understanding of the Constitution and a willingness to stand up to those looking to exploit tragedies.
"This is the third day I've taken off of work to come here to, like so many of the rest of us, plead to you for us to keep our guns because of the actions of some wing-nut in Newtown, Connecticut. If that isn't inherently wrong, I don't know what is. That these bills are even in proposed form is scary enough. That any of you could be possibly undecided is scary enough. ... I can't for the life of me understand how this state can have as many gun laws on the books as it does and have members of its legislature need to take firearms 101. And as far as the, what I felt were potshots taken at the NRA earlier today: They've done more for gun safety -- they'll do more for gun safety this weekend than this committee will do in your careers. ... Sometimes things are beyond your control. You can't control everything. Evil exists. Adam Lanza commits a crime, and I'm here to grovel and plead for my rights and explain to you that my firearms are kept safely? I keep hearing the word 'solution' -- 'we need to find a solution.' You're not going to find a solution, it doesn't exist. You can't find a broad brush solution to evil. ... The reason that your jobs are becoming so difficult is that you're coloring outside the lines of constitutional parameter[s]. That's the bottom line. You are trying to marriage up public safety with constitutional rights. The Constitution did not guarantee public safety, it guaranteed liberty. And sometimes what comes with liberty is tragedy, unfortunately." --Robert Steed

2) Commissioner Marseglia is trying to exclude any County retirement funds that invest in firearm manufacturing, but also in firearm sales. This is outrageous and stinks of a total firearms ban and a an attack of free enterprise. Stores like Cabelas and Dick's fall into that category.Challenge her at the next Commissioner meeting and ask her if this means that she advocates a total gun ban for hunters and sportsmen as well as protection. What does this have to do as she expounds"control unsafe gun use" See the below Intel story.

Should Bucks County invest in guns?
By James McGinnis Staff writer | Posted: Thursday, March 21, 2013
It's no secret Bucks County spends millions of dollars each year to combat and prosecute gun crime.
What's harder to figure out - even for a county commissioner - is just how much the government invests in gun manufacturing and sales.
Commissioner Diane Marseglia said she's spent more than a month investigating the county's pension fund and a portfolio of investments, which includes some gun makers and distributors.
The U.S. Conference of Mayors urged all local and state governments to cut ties with 'irresponsible' gun companies in the wake of the Dec. 14 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, which left 20 children and six adults dead.
At Marseglia's request, investment adviser PFM Asset Management LLC said it contacted the six managers of portfolios held in the Bucks County Employees' Retirement Fund. The majority does not hold any such investments, PFM said.
However, a shortlist provided by the firm does include a military defense contractor, a firm selling guns to civilians and some sporting goods stores that sell firearms. Marseglia said she will call on her fellow commissioners to study the portfolios in greater detail.
"This is something that we can all do to try to control unsafe gun use because our lawmakers in Washington can't seem to do it," said Marseglia. "I think what we need here is a more exhaustive search."
Her fellow commissioners, Robert Loughery and Charley Martin, aren't as keen on the idea, though.

Historic March for Marriage
On March 26th, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the Perry case, which will determine if Proposition 8 - the citizens initiative approved by the people of California in 2008 to protect marriage - is constitutional or not. More importantly, the question of same-sex "marriage" and the right of Americans to protect marriage will be decided.
It is imperative that political leaders, the media, and the culture see that we care about protecting marriage enough to stand up and march for it.
The March is being organized by the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) alongside a broad coalition of pro-family organization, state partners, African-American, Latino, Catholic and Protestant leaders. Speakers include Gary Bauer (American Values), Bishop Harry Jackson, Dr. Robert George (Manhattan Declaration), Penny Nance (Concerned Women for America) and Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone.
Here's the schedule of events for the March on Tuesday, March 26th:
8:30am - Gather at the National Mall location between 10th Street and 12th Street NW & between Madison Drive NW and Jefferson Drive SW
9:30am - March to Supreme Court and then return to the National Mall location.
11:00am - 1:00pm - Rally begins at National Mall location.

FrackNation is a documentary on hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and the natural gas boom in the US and abroad. FrackNation shows how unfounded opposition to fracking is damaging the lives of some of the poorest and hardest working people in America. FrackNation dispels myths and tells the story of the people directly affected by fracking bans.
FrackNation premiered January 22, 2013 on Mark Cuban's AXS TV. The New York Times called the film "meticulously researched...provocative." And Variety said it was a "briskly paced...mischievous pic."
The film was created and directed by the husband and wife team of Phelim McAleer and the always outrageous Ann McElhinney. Ann will be speaking on April 20th at the upcoming PA Leadership Conference. DVDs of the film will be available for purchase at the PA Coalition booth at PLC
Phelim will be touring Pennsylvania for a series of screenings across the Commonwealth. Listed below are venues and dates for screenings in April. Additional screenings are planned for May including one in the Pittsburgh area. If your grass roots group would like to schedule a screening, please contact Magdalena Segieda at magda@fracknation.com
June 19 - 21 we will convene at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC for our fourth annual National Conference & Legislative Briefing.
And here's some really great news: This year's registration fee is only $229! Register by April 15th and you'll receive our "Early Bird" rate of just $189!
We also offer again this year special benefits for Patriot Eagle and Patriot sponsors.
We have some exciting new wrinkles planned for this year's event, and our list of confirmed speakers already includes:
Steven Emerson - Journalist, author, and the Executive Editor of the Investigative Project on Terrorism. A. M. Rosenthal, late-managing editor of The New York Times, described Emerson as "one of the nation's best national security correspondents."
John Guandolo - Former FBI agent and one of America's leading authorities on the Muslim Brotherhood and its inner workings in America. Guandolo spoke at our conference in 2011 and received rave reviews from conference attendees!
Ezra Levant - Canadian lawyer, author, newspaper columnist with Sun Media, and former publisher of the Western Standard. Hauled before a Canadian "human rights commission" because he published the Danish cartoons that satirized Muhammad, Levant's personal account of a politically correct government inquisition is something you won't want to miss!
The National Conference & Legislative Briefing will begin on Wed. evening, June 19th, and conclude on Friday, June 21st at noon, with additional optional training sessions Friday afternoon.
It will again feature our very popular Capitol Hill Awards Luncheon and our signature gala banquet-and of course, our Legislative Briefing, where Members of Congress will brief you on various issues and answer your questions.
We are so blessed that over the last four years thousands of churches in over 60 countries have stood in solidarity with Israel through CUFI Sunday. From the largest cities to the smallest towns, from mega churches in the American heartland to underground churches in China, Christians have come together to express their love and support for Israel.
We pray that your church will participate in the fifth annual CUFI Sunday on May 5, 2013. CUFI will provide you with all the materials you need to implement a successful CUFI Sunday, including videos, literature and Pastor John Hagee's personal sermon notes for your use.
Please click hereto participate in CUFI Sunday. As you'll see, you don't have to be a pastor to ensure that your church stands with Israel on CUFI Sunday.
The date we've chosen for CUFI Sunday -- May 5th -- is close to Israeli Independence Day. As the Jewish State celebrates her 65th birthday, there is no better present we can send than the news of thousands of churches standing in solidarity with her!
We look forward to uniting in action and prayer on behalf of Israel with you and your congregation on May 5, 2013.

2013 RedState Gathering -- Early Bird Special
Dear RedStater,
We announced earlier this week that we'll be headed to New Orleans the first weekend in August for this year's RedState Gathering. As a member of our RedState family, we'd like to extend exclusive Early Bird registration and pricing to you (just use the promo code EARLYBIRD on the registration page).
The 2013 RedState Gathering will be held August 2-3 at the Westin Canal Place in New Orleans, LA. We'll have two full days of speakers and activities and you can expect a good mix of elected officials and potential candidates for the 2014 cycle (we'll keep you informed as additions are made).
The Gathering has always been a unique event, in that all speakers, even the most in-demand and influential, pay their own way and make their own travel arrangements. This helps keep our costs low, a savings we are happy to pass along to our conference attendees. Additionally, we strive to get you up close to the speakers, ask them to take your questions, and we take care of nearly all your meals during the conference. Bottom line: fewer frills, more thrills and access.
We are thrilled to once again be joined by Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, who will be hosting a reception for all attendees and appear at the Gathering podium as a keynote speaker. A huge hit in 2012, we're looking forward to Gov. Jindal playing an even larger role this year as he welcomes us to his home state.
Now, more than ever, true conservative activists must come together to exchange ideas and strategize for the future. That's what this year's Gathering is all about. We hope you'll join us.
P.S. Don't delay! You'll receive 20% off if you register today - just use the promo code EARLYBIRD. Click here.

Hi All - I just spoke w/ Lisa Lnancollas@aol.com (717 437 1327) who lives in Lewistown, Pa and is majorly involved in fighting the smart meters............and it's more than just electric, it's water, furnaces/ac's and wells too
We need to share this information. I asked her if she'd speak to groups in our area and she said yes, but would like to include Mike Reese who's written several bills that we want to get out of committee and approved:
2.signs in our yards saying NO SMART METERS......put them around like election signs
3.Let our State Reps know how you feel ie Warren Kampf....tell him you're in favor of the bills against smart meters
4.Do neighbor alerts........call your neighbors if you see trucks coming into the area
5.Write letters to the editors....remember if they get several letters, they're more likely to put at least one in.....educate the public
6.Prepare handouts
7.Send certified letter to electric company and get return receipt of name of person who signed for it
Be aware:
Water Smart Meters.........(IF YOU LET THEM IN, you're giving permission.) YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LET THEM IN
Well Smart Meters......are coming and will limit the amount of water you use.
If you get someone knocking on your door asking if you want to save money on your heat/ac, do not say yes or they'll put a clip on your unit that will limit your usage of air conditioning. The fan will work, but your usage will be CONTROLLED.
IF you get a new wall mount (thermostat & it may be required w/ a new ac unit because of the wiring) for your AC DO NOT GET ONE WITH A GPS in it........there is a cheaper model that has no GPS........ask questions BEFORE you start or consider any changes!!!!!!!!
Important Announcement from SFL
You're probably wondering why you've been getting more emails from me and Sustainable Freedom Lab after having had next to none for quite some time.
Well, the truth is that I've been very busy. As always, I spend enormous amounts of my time researching, writing, and speaking to the public about the threats of Agenda 21 and Regionalism.
I've also been working on important projects behind the scenes.
Now I'm finally ready to reveal the first of these "secret" projects: The DVD version of "Stopping Agenda 21 in Your Community".
Like the title suggests, this DVD program offers step-by-step training on how you can fight back against those who would bring Agenda 21 into your community. The test audience who saw this program during the limited streaming we held last Fall felt it was critical viewing for anyone concerned about the erosion of our property rights.
If you've been wanting an interesting, clearly written, how-to-manual for identifying and fighting UN Agenda 21, here it is. Agenda 21--All the information you need to understand what is happening in your town, why it's happening, who is behind it, and what you can do to stop it. BEHIND THE GREEN MASK: U.N. Agenda 21 is 172 pages of truth. Part history, part current events, part hand-to-hand combat, and part blueprint for keeping your freedom, this is one book that you'll put to work immediately. Boots on the ground and all hands on deck is the order of the day. Awareness is the first step in the Resistance.
Awareness about Agenda 21 is finally spreading throughout the country, due in no small part to your efforts. But knowing it is there isn't enough. Now we need to educate ourselves on how to combat it. That's where you come in.
American Policy Center has recently released a booklet that explains everything you need to know to start fighting back against sustainable programs both locally and nationally. The booklet is called Special Report: Agenda 21 and How to Stop It and is available in the APC store for only $5.95.
I wrote this 35 page booklet in order to give activists a succinct resource they can refer to if they suspect Agenda 21 or Sustainable Development is being implemented in their area. It includes my own research coupled with incredibly helpful graphics created by Carroll County, Maryland Commissioner Richard Rothschild.
In the booklet you will find answers to several roadblocks that grassroots anti-Agenda 21 activists often face, including a definition of property rights and "Resolution to Protect Citizens' Property Rights," which many concerned citizens are already using to tie the hands of power hungry politicians.
This booklet is a great resource for anyone interested in preserving their property rights. It includes all the information to put up a first line of defense and step by step instructions for how to proceed from there. If you face Agenda 21 or Sustainable development in your area or are simply concerned with the national fight this booklet is a must read.
P.S. - The American Policy Center store has recently updated our inventory to include everything you need to fight back against Agenda 21. The revamped catalogue includes the "Stop Agenda 21 Action Kit", which provides users with everything they need to know about Agenda 21 in their own living room, as well as ways to share it with other concerned activists and critical knowledge on how to fight back. The store also offers DVDs of past successful conferences and symposiums, books and articles that deal with the issues of sustainability and Agenda 21 and individually packaged manuals and workbooks to aid you in your activism. You don't need to look any farther than the American Policy Center Store for everything you need to combat Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development in your area.
It's time to opt out of the creepy federal data-mining racket.
By Michelle Malkin
Last week, I reported on the federal government's massive new student-tracking database, which was created as part of the nationalized Common Core standards scheme.
The bad news: GOP "leadership" continues to ignore or, worse, enable this Nanny State racket. (Hello, Jeb Bush.)
The good news: A grassroots revolt outside the Beltway bubble is swelling. Families are taking their children's academic and privacy matters out of the snoopercrats' grip and into their own hands. You can now download a Common Core opt-out form to submit to your school district, courtesy of the group Truth in American Education.
Parents caught off guard by the stealthy tracking racket are now mobilizing across the country. According to the
New York Daily News
, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, echoing parents across New York City, blasted the tracking database in a letter to government officials: "I don't want my kids' privacy bought and sold like this." This Wednesday, prompted by parental objections, Oklahoma state representatives unanimously passed House Bill 1989 - the Student Data Accessibility, Transparency and Accountability Act - to prohibit the release of confidential student data without the written consent of the student's parent or guardian. As I noted in last week's column, the national Common Core student database was funded with Obama stimulus money. Grants also came from the liberal Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (which largely underwrote and promoted the top-down Common Core curricular scheme). A division of the conservative Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. built the database infrastructure. A nonprofit startup, "inBloom, Inc.," evolved out of this strange-bedfellows partnership to operate the invasive database, which is compiling everything from health-care histories, income information, and religious affiliations to voting status, blood types, and homework completion.
And it gets worse. Research fellow Joy Pullmann at the Heartland Institute points to a February Department of Education report on its data-mining plans that contemplates the use of creepy student-monitoring techniques such as "functional magnetic resonance imaging" and "using cameras to judge facial expressions, an electronic seat that judges posture, a pressure-sensitive computer mouse and a biometric wrap on kids' wrists."
The DOE report exposes the big lie that Common Core is about raising academic standards. The report instead reveals Common Core's progressive designs to measure and track children's "competencies" in "recognizing bias in sources," "flexibility," "cultural awareness and competence," "appreciation for diversity," "empathy," "perspective taking, trust, [and] service orientation."
That's right. School districts and state governments are pimping out highly personal data on children's feelings, beliefs, "biases," and "flexibility" instead of doing their own jobs of imparting knowledge - and minding their own business. And yes, Republicans such as former Florida governor Jeb Bush continue to falsely defend the centralized Common Core regime as locally driven and non-coercive, while ignoring the database system's circumvention of federal student-privacy laws.
Why? Edu-tech nosybodies are using the Common Core assessment boondoggle as a Trojan horse to collect and crunch massive amounts of personal student data for their own social-justice or moneymaking ends. Reminder: Nine states have entered into contracts with inBloom: Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New York, and North Carolina. Countless other vendors are salivating at the business possibilities in exploiting public-school students.
Marxism in Education - The Infiltration of Our School Systems by the Common Core Standards
Details
Written by Terresa Monroe-Hamilton
Right Side News has been reporting on progressive education reformers and the Common Core Standards being implemented in our public schools across the nation. Here is an excellent article with videos detailing how the Obama Administration is requiring the public schools in your county through grants (bribes) to adopt Common Core Standards.
Bottom line: the Obama Administration is using your tax money to indoctrinate your children to a Marxist mindset. You can make a difference, as explained below the videos by downloading an OPT-OUT form and submitting that to your local school district.
Terresa Monroe-Hamilton, Noisy Room Blog
I caught Glenn Beck on The Blaze and his excellent showcasing of Obama's Common Core Standards that are now in 45 states, including my state of Idaho. Common Core is Marxism for children. It is state run propaganda and is meant to dumb down and control our little ones. It is evil and it has been a long time coming. Obama pushed it through slyly and quickly after coming into office, but I can tell you, this has been brewing since at least the 1990s.
A little background... When my children were in school in the 1990s, my husband and I requested to see the school curriculum for their school in Las Vegas, Nevada. We were refused and basically told we were too dumb to understand what the teachers were instructing our son and daughter in. The last straw came when they wanted to put my daughter in the second grade on Ritalin instead of disciplining her. I was pulled in front of four teachers and accused of not raising my daughter correctly, as well as basically being an abusive and stupid parent.
I promptly told these teachers that they could pound sand and pulled our children (our son was in third grade at the time) out of school that very same day. I left the Fortune 500 and home schooled both of them till high school and in retrospect, should have kept them out even then. My children could not do the simplest of math or read when we pulled them out. I tested them and started them all over again with the ABEKA home schooling system, which at the time, cost a great deal of money.
Forty-five states, the District of Columbia, four territories, and the Department of Defense Education Activity have adopted the Common Core State Standards.
Has Communist Ideology Overtaken America? Education is crucial. Today I want to share two very interesting lists with you, and rather than adding an extensive amount of my commentary, I want to give you the chance to examine the facts for yourself. It is my opinion that many communist goals have already been accomplished. I also believe that advancement has been made in other areas. But, you owe it to yourself to do your own research. I believe not only in the freedom of speech, but also in the responsibility of free thought. So please don't take my word for it. Examine the facts for yourself.
Again, I want to share two lists with you. The first is a list that was entered into 1963 Congressional Record. The second is the 10 planks of The Communist Manifesto.
If you can't see this happening in America, and a ton of progress being made, then I offer two potential explanations:
You are one of the "useful idiots" of communist teaching.
I am one of the "village idiots" that your Mama probably warned you about.
Some of these points will be open for debate and some will not. In some cases it is blatantly obvious that they have achieved their goals. It is even rumored that our own President has deep communist ties. You might want to check that out as well but I will withhold my opinion at this point. Let's just lay it out and you can interpret it.
This list was originally printed in "The Naked Communist" by Cleon Skousen. It was entered into Congressional Record in 1963 as the 45 goals of "The Communist Takeover of America."

Earlier this month, 11-year-old Grace Evans appeared before a panel of Minnesota lawmakers considering a redefinition of marriage in that state. She testified to the significance of her mother and father and the different contributions each makes to her life.
It's a question proponents of same-sex marriage cannot answer.
This week, attorneys will echo Grace when they appear before the Supreme Court to defend two marriage laws defining the institution as the union of one man and one woman. The Court hears arguments Tuesday on California's Proposition 8 and Wednesday on the federal Defense of Marriage Act.
Americans are free to live and to love as we choose. And we've learned to make do in many circumstances when, for one reason or another, a mother and father cannot permanently be together with the children they've brought into this world.
But we have continued to give unique status in law to the union of a man and a woman-the only relationship that produces children-as a permanent, monogamous, and exclusive relationship. We uphold this ideal in the interest of children, of limited, constitutional government, and of America's future.
That's a message Heritage will convey at an event today featuring Ryan Anderson, Kellie Fiedorek of the Alliance Defending Freedom, and tea party activist Doug Mainwaring, a gay man committed to maintaining the definition of marriage because of its importance for children. Tomorrow, we'll be joining many other Americans gathering on the National Mall for the March for Marriage.
Decades of social science, including the most recent and robust studies, confirm that children tend to do best when raised by their married mother and father. So it surprised many last Thursday when the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) endorsed same-sex marriage, challenging the ideal that children should have a mom and a dad.
"Based on 'extensive research,' this statement from a scientific organization may seem authoritative," writes Heritage senior analyst Jason Richwine, Ph.D. "In reality, however, the AAP's position is based on ideology, not science."
As Dr. Richwine observes, "the bottom line is that the literature on same-sex parenting is not conclusive enough to generate any policy prescriptions from social science alone. We just don't know nearly as much as the AAP claims that we know."
He notes that "the AAP has a long track record of using its air of scientific authority to make pronouncements on ideological issues" like gun control and Obamacare's Medicaid expansion.
"These are perfectly legitimate political positions, but they are not scientific positions. We should never confuse the two, especially not when dealing with an issue as important as the definition of marriage."
Marriage Matters for Limited, Constitutional Government
Policy rightly recognizes marriage, respecting it as one of the institutions that mediates between government and the individual. This protects individual liberty, particularly the liberty of dependent children. Marriage helps limit the state.
Some have argued, however, that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) violates the principle of federalism. That argument gets it backward, explains Matthew Spalding, Ph.D., Heritage's vice president for American Studies. DOMA "was an attempt to preserve in place the ability of the federal government and the states to address marriage appropriate to their respective spheres of authority."
"[I]f we want to prevent the federal government from redefining marriage for all the states...and launching a massive expansion of the federal government," Dr. Spalding continues, "then we should strenuously defend DOMA and uphold the ability of states to define marriage in their state constitutions. That's not just federalism; it's constitutional self-government."
Marriage Matters for America's Future
Liberal media coverage has wrapped the movement to redefine marriage in a mantle of inevitability. It has highlighted shifting polls and support among young people.
As Walker pointed out to the Times, Supreme Court action this year will not end the American people's debate over marriage:
If you take the longer view of history-I'm not talking just 15 years, I'm talking 40 years or even 100 years-I can't help but think that the uniqueness of man-woman marriage will be adjudicated over time.
It's important to future generations that Americans understand what marriage is, why it matters, and the consequences of redefining it. The Supreme Court shouldn't truncate the debate and redefine marriage by judicial decree to include same-sex relationships.
This week is only the beginning of a great national conversation about our most fundamental institution. Heritage and its allies have produced a new booklet to help you engage in this conversation. Join us in the effort to restore a strong culture of marriage in America, for today's children, and for generations yet to be born.
1.'Gay Marriage' and Religious Freedom Are Not Compatible
The kids these days on the right are full of a great libertarian notion that "hey, let's just get the government out of marriage."
"Rock on," say other libertarians.
They then all smugly self-congratulate themselves, pat themselves on the back, and move on to other issues.
What they ignore is that the left will never take marriage out of the hands of the government. The left cannot. But it goes beyond that. The left cannot take marriage out of government because for so long it has been government through which marriages were legitimized to the public and the left must also use government to silence those, particularly the religious, who refuse to play along.
Let's ignore, for the sake of this post, that the Democracy of the Dead has settled for us that in society marriage should be between a man and woman as the best way to propagate the species.
The left has done an admirable job in secular society making the case that gay marriage merely allows a class of people to be happy and have what everyone else has.
2.Undoing the 'Ginsberg' rules at the Spring RNC meeting
There was plenty of coverage of the rules changes during the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa (where I was an at-large delegate from Virginia). Erick Erickson blogged about it. The Blaze picked it up. Daily Beast, too. NBC. HuffPo.
Long story short: The Romney campaign, through D.C. attorney Ben Ginsberg (and then-surrogate John Sununu), strong-armed the Rules Committee into changing a number of rules that would consolidate power with the campaign of the incumbent (thinking ahead to 2016, Romney's second term). Once the changes made it out of committee and to the floor, there was considerable objection as John Boehner presided over the vote to approve the rules. Virginia was unanimous in our opposition.
3.Republican Rep. Barbara Sears Blocks Effort Against Obamacare
In early March, Ohio State Representative Ron Young and Rep. Andy Thompson introduced a bill known as, "The Health Care Freedom Act," (HCFA) that proposed a new line of defense against the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, or, Obamacare. The bill, when passed, will prohibit health insurance companies in Ohio from accepting any federal funding that would trigger penalties for employers or individuals who aren't compliant with Obamacare.Wednesday, when the bill was brought up in committee, opposition arose; but not only from the expected side of the aisle. While the Democrats did balk at the bill, Republican Majority Floor Leader Barbara Sears also took issue with HCFA.One needn't look too deep to understand why Sears wouldn't want the HCFA to pass in Ohio. Not only has she received a substantial amount of financial contributions from the health care industry, she currently works at a health insurance provider and recently passed her own bill which helps implement Obamacare.. . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4.Rep. Bill Owens: Budget Nihilist
Last week the House voted on 6 different budget frameworks. Surprisingly, with so many budgets to choose from, Rep. Bill Owens couldn't bring himself to support a single one. He's a budget nihilist.
Owens' refusal to support any budget last week is a classic case of a Washington politician trying to have his cake and eat it too. By opposing everything and failing to offer an alternative, Owens is in effect endorsing the status quo: more tax and spend policies and more runaway deficits that hurt middle class families and future generations.

Fake: Obama Imitates Reverence During 'Star-Spangled Banner'
Thomas Lifson
Watch this super short video. Look at O's hand over his heart at the end. His fingers are tightly held together.
Put your hand over your heart and see how your hand feels and how it falls with reverence. Then try pinching all your fingers together and see how it feels.
It is unnatural, contrived, an imitation.
O feels nothing. He has no connection to his hand on his heart, and certainly not in relation to America.
No, even this gesture is fabricated; a fake. An imposter through and through.

Going to war is a matter not of avoiding mistakes, but of seeking to correct them as soon as possible. For a postmodern society that knows no history, mistakes must not occur. And when they do, someone else is always to be blamed.
How is it that a sitting president presiding over a damaged economy with high unemployment and no sign of recovery can get reelected? Michael Walsh at NRO blames the Obama presidency on the Iraq War. Taking things one step further, he blames the Clinton presidency on our first war in Iraq:
Like father, like son. The first President Bush squandered sky-high poll ratings into a defeat at the hands of a man the nation barely knew, Bill Clinton, in part because of the unsatisfying end to the first Gulf War, which ended with Saddam Hussein still in power. Thanks in large part to Iraq, the second Bush gave us the two terms of Barack Obama.
Far from causing the first President Bush to lose his high poll ratings, the first Gulf War created those ratings, which persisted following the war's "unsatisfying ending." I am aware of no evidence that the decision not to topple Saddam Hussein hurt Bush's standing with the public. Bush lost his popularity when the economy turned sour and he seemed out-of-touch when it came to the impact of the downturn and what to do about.
The second war obviously has harmed the Republican Party, but not to the extent Walsh claims. Even without the War in Iraq, or with a more successful war, the Democrats would likely have captured the White House in 2008. The economic collapse would almost certainly have produced that result. One party rarely holds the White House for more than two terms, and is quite unlikely to hold it for a third term in the face of a significant reversal of the nation's economy.
But the Iraq War plausibly can be blamed, indirectly, for giving us Obamacare. Without the huge Democratic victory in 2006, the Dems almost surely would have lacked the Senate votes needed to pass that monstrosity. And dissatisfaction over the Iraq War was a big contributor to the 2006 results.
The Iraq War, as it played out, also helped significantly reduce public confidence in Republicans. This is especially true, I believe. among among younger voters. Ross Douthat makes that point, along with some other excellent ones, in a thoughtful piece about the Iraq War's impact on our politics.
So the Republicans are paying a political price for the Iraq War, and this is fitting for a party that takes the country to war and then, for several years as casualties mount, doesn't prosecute the war well. But Walsh overstates the price.
Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) does not plan to run for re-election in 2014, according to this report by Reuters. Johnson has scheduled a press conference for tomorrow.
Mitt Romney carried South Dakota by 18 points last year. But we shouldn't assume that, therefore, the South Dakota Senate seat will be an easy pick-up. Romney carried North Dakota and Montana comfortably, yet the Dems elected Senators in both states, including a non-incumbent in North Dakota.
Moreover, the Democrats do not appear devoid of potentially good candidates to replace Johnson. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, a former at-large congresswoman who was defeated by less than 3 points in the 2010 wave election, is one possibility. Brendan Johnson, the State's U.S. Attorney and son of the current Senator, may be another.
Still, a credible Republican candidate should have a strong shot at this Senate seat. I'll leave it John, who hails from South Dakota, to provide some recommendations if he sees fit.
Scott isn't the only observer who has noticed the Obama administration's neglect of Iraq and the significant adverse consequences that flow from that neglect. Consider these words by the Washington Post editorial board:
[In Iraq] violence continues, the central government appears to be crumbling, and the United States, by failing to live up to its promises of partnership, is tipping the country toward deeper trouble. . . .
Iran's influence over Mr. Maliki's government is mounting, thanks in part to the Obama administration's failure to agree with Baghdad on a stay-on force of U.S. troops. . . .
As with leaders across the Middle East, [Iraq's Prime Minister Maliki] perceives that the United States is unwilling to defend its interests in the region, either by stopping the Syrian bloodbath or countering Iran's interventions. . . .
President Obama has often given the impression that he has turned his back on Iraq, and many Americans understandably sympathize with him. But a failure to engage with the fragile state U.S. troops left behind would endanger U.S. interests and break faith with the many Americans who made sacrifices there. (emphasis added)
The impression that Obama has turned his back on Iraq stems from the fact that Obama largely has turned his back on Iraq. The question is: why does Obama ignore a country of Iraq's strategic importance? And also: why does Obama feel an oblgiation to assist the Palestinians, who hate the U.S. to the point of cheering al Qaeda's 9/11 attack, but not the Sunnis of Iraq, many of whom rose up to fight alongside the U.S. against al Qaeda?
Is it because Iraq was "Bush's deal"? Is it because the West Bank is where the potential glory for Obama resides? Is it because a Middle East policy that focuses on America's strategic interests is insufficiently enlightened? Or is it because Obama the "progressive" sympathizes more with Middle East radicals than with those who have aligned themselves with the U.S.?
With the Cyprus bailout and the continuing fragility of the Eurozone system tested on an almost daily basis, time to take in some of Sir Winston's greatest hits about finance. This first, from 1926, could be the opening of a daily memo to the European Central Bank (if not our own Federal Reserve):
In finance, everything that is agreeable is unsound and everything that is sound is disagreeable.
About the provision of Dodd-Frank to provide independent revenue sources for the regulators (which is probably unconstitutional), Churchill would surely raise an eyebrow or two, as indicated by this comment in 1950:
Control over taxation and the revenues of the state has always been the foundation on which Parliamentary Government has rested, and indeed there is no other foundation upon which it can rest. Once the state acquires sources of revenue independent of Parliament, then the power of Parliament to curb and check maladministration is seriously diminished.
Of course, eroding the power of elected officials to control the bureaucracy is the point of measures like Dodd-Frank and Obamacare.
Secretary of State (remember?) John Kerry took a detour to Baghdad on his current trip to the Middle East. He sought to persuade the government of Prime Minister Maliki to stop Iran from flying arms across Iraqi territory to support the Assad regime.
The United States has more or less abandoned Iraq, Iraq lacks an air force, and Iran is filling the vacuum created by our withdrawal. The New York Times reports that Kerry asked Maliki to provide for additional inspections of the cargo on the Iranian overflights ("American officials have repeatedly insisted to Iraq that it should request that the Iranian flights land and be inspected"), but that Kerry "found him unwilling to give ground."
How bad was it? This bad:
Maliki repeated Iraq's view that there is no definitive proof that the cargoes are arms, rather than humanitarian aid, as the Iranians contend. Kerry was left to say that he will gather more information to prove his point.
It's actually worse than that, because, as the Times also points out:
"The number of flights shows that they can't possibly be humanitarian flights," a senior administration official, who declined to be identified citing the diplomatic sensitivity of the subject, told reporters.
It's actually worse than that, because astute Iraqis publicly profess that they have weighed the Obama administration's influence and found it wanting:
"The Americans are not using claws or teeth," Mowaffak al-Rubaie, Mr. Maliki's former national security adviser, said shortly before Mr. Kerry's visit.
A headline Sunday in the Iraqi newspaper Al Mada referring to President Obama's trip last week to the Middle East read, "Obama Visited the Region but Ignored Iraq." The article noted that "Iraq was not even mentioned in Obama's speeches to the region" and said that "all the protests and bombings in Iraq haven't come to the attention of Obama."
It's actually worse than that, because, as the Los Angeles Times also points out, Maliki's resistance to Kerry's charms was the subject of levity at Kerry's expense:
American influence over the country, or the lack of it, was the subject of a joke between the two leaders before their meeting.
Appearing briefly before photographers, Kerry joked to Maliki that Clinton had told him that the Iraqi leader is "going to do everything I say."
Maliki shot back through the translator: "We won't do it!"
Kerry's assessment of internal Iraqi issues raised with Maliki reflects equally on the Obama administration: "There's a lot happening, and a lot not happening."
Krauthammer's Take on Obamacare Anniversary: '
Obama Kids Vacation at Bahamas' 'Atlantis' Resort
Posted onMarch 25, 2013
I guess we're supposed to be happy that someone is getting to enjoy themselves on the taxpayer's dime. And you can pretty much guarantee they're not in the cheap rooms!
Sasha and Malia Obama are quietly vacationing at the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, Breitbart News has learned.
A source tipped Breitbart News off to the First Daughters' spring vacation, which was not publicly announced or reported.
Breitbart subsequently confirmed President Barack Obama's daughters' trip with other sources. Both the White House and the Atlantis resort declined to confirm the report or comment, but another guest provided a photograph of Sasha and Malia at the resort.
Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz has attracted a large measure of notice from the blogosphere following a shareholder meeting this past Wednesday, where he inadvertently waded into political waters by rebuking an opponent of same sex marriage.
The incident occurred when Starbucks shareholder Tom Strobhar of the Corporate Morality Action Center, an anti-gay corporate pressure group, raised the issue of Starbucks having been recently boycotted by the National Organization for Marriage (NOM). This, Strobhar suggested, had lost the company money and suggested they might want to backtrack on the issue.
Yesterday I had the opportunity to go on Fox News Sunday to make the case for traditional marriage. As my family can attest I am a severe critic of my own performances, but I felt good about the show. If you missed it, you can watch the show here.
This debate was unique because instead of the usual suspects on the left, I was up against Nicolle Wallace, a former Communications Director in the Bush White House and a top aide to John McCain's presidential campaign. (She is also the person widely believed to be responsible for many of the campaign's unkind leaks against Sarah Palin.) That said, I just don't think Mrs. Wallace had a good grasp of the key issues in this debate.
Her main point was the fact that polling data has supposedly shifted on the notion of men "marrying" other men. But if the public is overwhelmingly in favor of redefining marriage to accommodate sodomy, then the strategy the left, along with some quisling Republicans like Christine Todd Whitman and Bill Weld, is pushing makes little sense. If they are so confident, why are they so anxious to take the issue away from the American people and instead have it decided by unelected judges?
To top it off, Wallace stated that her view was the legitimate conservative position, and she added that there was even "a moral imperative" to support same-sex marriage. I could not disagree more.
I argued that it was fundamentally undemocratic for the left to use the courts to force its morality on the American people -- telling millions of Americans that they have no right to believe marriage is between a man and woman; that the entire country and most of human history has gotten it wrong. But that is precisely what the left has done time and time again, whether the issue is the sanctity of life or religious freedom.
With advisors like Mrs. Wallace, you realize why John McCain's campaign didn't get off the ground or take off the gloves and fight harder on values issues.
Will The Reagan Coalition Survive?
On another Sunday talk show, Karl Rove was asked if he could see a Republican candidate in 2016 endorsing same-sex marriage. Rove responded, "I could." In the last campaign, Jon Huntsman had endorsed civil unions and like Barack Obama his "evolution" is now complete.
Whether they realize it or not, GOP elites are toying with political suicide. These guys want values issues to just go away. But what they don't fully appreciate is that Ronald Reagan's winning coalition -- the three-legged stool of economic conservatives, foreign policy conservatives and social issue conservatives -- will cease to exist without values voters. Furloughs & Foreign Aid
The Federal Aviation Administration let it be known Friday that the sequester was forcing it to shut down 149 air traffic control towers at small airports around the country. On the same day, the Obama Administration announced that was releasing $500 million in aid to the Palestinian Authority and $200 million in additional foreign aid for Jordan.
It's worth noting that combined these foreign aid funds would more than cover the $637 million that the FAA is losing under sequestration. I suspect most Americans would feel that keeping air traffic control towers open is far better use of their hard-earned tax dollars than sending their money to Palestinian jihadists.
Moreover, Congress voted to cut off funding to the Palestinian Authority after it pushed a statehood resolution at the United Nations over our objections. I'm not aware of the Palestinian leadership apologizing for defying us or renouncing the statehood resolution.
So why is the money flowing to Mahmoud Abbas while federal workers are facing furloughs and American schoolchildren still can't get into the White House? It's a matter of Obama's priorities.
Speaking of priorities, the Associated Press reports that Attorney General Eric Holder "has averted daily furloughs of 3,570 federal prison staffers around the country." Really? I thought the "draconian" budget cuts had to be administered across-the-board with zero flexibility, no matter how painful. Not exactly.
As the AP explained, Holder transferred $150 million from other Justice Department accounts in order to "stave off a serious threat to the lives and safety of correctional staff, inmates and the public."
That is exactly what he and every other department executive ought to do. It exposes Obama's scare tactics for what they are and proves what conservatives have explained repeatedly -- that the executive branch does in fact have considerable flexibility in how the sequester cuts are administered.
Arafat Still Looms Large
The liberal media and political left routinely blame Israel for the lack of a peace agreement between Israelis and the Palestinians. But Israel has made repeated concessions for peace. It gave up Gaza and has gotten regular rocket attacks from Gaza as a "thank you."
Yet after every concession, it has gotten the same response -- more violence, more suicide bombings, more rocket attacks. The real culprit is Palestinian terrorism and the jihadists who are not interested in a piece of Israel, much less peace with Israel.
Even as President Obama was trying to jumpstart the peace talks, Palestinian militants responded by firing rockets into southern Israel last week.
The malevolent legacy of Yasser Arafat still looms over the region. It was on full display last week when Barack Obama met with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas. The two men spoke under a giant banner of Arafat's picture.
You may recall that before Barack Obama gave a speech at Georgetown University, a Catholic institution, the White House demanded that an inscription for the name of Jesus be covered. But he had no problem standing beneath a huge photo of the man who legitimized modern terrorism and who is directly responsible for the deaths of dozens of Americans.
Passover
Tonight, Jews all over the world will celebrate the miracle of Passover. The last plague that God used to free the Jews from Pharaoh and Egyptian captivity was to send the Angel of Death to kill all the firstborn males. Forewarned by God, Jews marked their doors with the blood of a lamb, and, as a result, the Angel of Death passed over their homes. (Exodus, Chapter 12.) God told the Jewish people to mark the day as a memorial day and to observe it as a feast to the Lord forever. To all our Jewish friends, we wish you a happy Passover and all of God's blessings.
When they get complete control of your life, liberals don't just sit and smile, they use that power and control to remind you who is in charge. They hunger and thirst for power and control and are restrained only by their imaginations as they plot to run our lives.
Minnesota's Democrats are good examples of what life is like when liberals are given total control of a government.
Earlier this year, while lamenting how many of his subjects escape to Florida and other warmer places each winter to avoid the cold, Democrat Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton had an idea to recover the tax money they take with them each December.
The Hill is reporting that John McCain (R-AZ), who has affixed his name to such legislation or proposed legislation as McCain-Feingold (CFR), McCain-Kennedy (immigration) and McCain-Lieberman (climate change), is a key player in the quest to expand background check for gun purchasers.
Also "considering" signing on are Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) and Senator Dean Heller (R-NV). The proposal contains some "compromises" such as letting "rural gun owners conduct background checks from their home computers. Another would give military veterans who have been declared mentally unfit to own a gun a process for appealing that finding."
$123,000 Department of Education Salary in the Time of Sequester
By Lindsey Burke
What pain has sequester wrought at the federal Department of Education? Apparently, not much.
The 4,200-person agency has just hired a new "executive director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans." Fox News reports that the position apparently commands a six-figure salary, as the new director-a former aide to Representative Charlie Rangel (D-NY)-will receive a starting salary of $123,758.
President Obama signed an executive order to form the new White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans last July. The director will be "asked to identify evidence-based best practices to improve African-American student achievement from cradle to career."
Improving academic outcomes for students won't be accomplished by new federal initiatives or programs. History has proven as much over the past four-and-a-half decades.

New Heritage Research: Total Cost of Education Could be Billions Higher than Government Estimates
"The federal government dramatically underestimates teacher pension costs in its official education spending figures," writes Heritage Foundation's Jason Richwine. "Correcting this accounting problem could add tens of billions of dollars-somewhere around $1,000 per pupil-to official education spending estimates."
About The Heritage Foundation Founded in 1973, The Heritage Foundation is a research and educational institute -- a think tank -- whose mission is to formulate and promote conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense.
Shameful Well, Governor Andrew Cuomo, in his grandstanding rush to exploit the Newtown killings, created a bad and unworkable law. Charles Cooke's excellent analysis of Cuomo's screw-up is a great read, and I encourage you to read it and share it with others. You know, it's usually wrong to kick a man when he is down, but when that man is New York's politicize-a-tragedy Governor, exceptions are permitted!

Mayor Nanny and Gun Control My colleague Rich Lowry went on Fox News this morning to assess how the NRA "would love, love, love, love Mayor Bloomberg to be the public face of gun control." The video clips are worth a couple of minutes of your time.
It's Anti-Semitism And there's more on guns and Bloomberg. The folks at MSNBC claim the opposition to Bloomberg's gun-control push is due in part to his being Jewish. Liberals never tire of blindly playing a race or bias card. Watch the clip.

How Much Ammo Does DHS Need?
DHS Buys Another 360,000 Rounds Of Ammo
(Info Wars) While the Department of Homeland Security continues to ignore members of Congress demanding to know why the federal agency is engaged in an apparent arms build-up, the DHS has just announced it plans to purchase another 360,000 rounds of hollow point ammunition to add to the roughly 2 billion bullets already bought over the past year.

Obama Administration Admits It Scuttled Border Security Metric to Protect Amnesty
In a stunning admission, officials in the Obama Administration admitted to The New York Times they resisted producing a metric to determine whether the border is secure because President Obama did not want any hurdles placed between illegal aliens and a pathway to citizenship.
Senate Rejects Amendment to Deny Amnestied Illegal Aliens ObamaCare

Guest Worker Program Remains Major Obstacle for Senate Gang of Eight
The Senate "Gang of Eight" negotiations broke down on Friday as labor and big business once again clashed on terms of a new guest worker program that Senators want to include in their mass amnesty bill expected to be released in April.
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) became the latest Republican to support amnesty for the 11-12 million illegal aliens in the country. The Tea Party Senator announced his immigration plan last Tuesday during a speech at the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Pat Leahy (D-VT) expressed frustration last week with the Gang of Eight's failure to produce amnesty bill before Congress leaves on Easter recess.

America's Daddy: Bloomberg's $12 million anti-gun plans
NYC Mayor Bloomberg has a god complex - he thinks the universe revolves around him. Case in point, he's launched a $12 million national campaign against guns, and fancies himself an army of one against "special interest" gun organizations like the NRA. Hmm, the views of 5 million people vs. the views of 1 man... who more closely resembles a special interest? Will Bloomberg make headway? Glenn reacts on radio today.

Actor Jim Carrey released a really lame attempt at biting political comedy, a song he called 'Cold Dead Hand' which took aim at Charlton Heston and gun rights proponents. It drags on for nearly six painful minutes before mercifully coming to an end. He tweeted "'Cold Dead Hand' is abt u heartless MFers unwilling 2 bend 4 the safety of our kids", before releasing the video and then got his rear-end handed to him by Dana Loesch on Twitter (see that interaction here).
