Obama Terrorizes Public with Illegal Alien Releases
February 28, 2013 By Arnold Ahlert
In one of the most politically despicable moves ever perpetrated by a sitting administration, federal immigration officials have released hundreds of illegal aliens from prison in anticipation of budget cuts produced by the sequester. "As fiscal uncertainty remains over the continuing resolution and possible sequestration, ICE has reviewed its detained population to ensure detention levels stay within ICE's current budget," said agency spokeswoman Gillian M. Christensen in a statement. Immigration officials further warned that even more releases are possible, if the anticipated cuts are realized.
In Arizona, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, who revealed that more than 500 inmates were released in his county alone, put this ploy in the proper perspective. "President Obama would never release 500 criminal illegals to the streets of his hometown, yet he has no problem with releasing them in Arizona. The safety of the public is threatened and the rule of law discarded as a political tactic in this sequester battle," he said.
House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) were equally incensed. "This is very hard for me to believe that they can't find cuts elsewhere in their agency," said Boehner in an interview on Tuesday night. "I frankly think this is outrageous. And I'm looking for more facts, but I can't believe that they can't find the kind of savings they need out of that department short of letting criminals go free." Goodlatte concurred. "It's abhorrent that President Obama is releasing criminals into our communities to promote his political agenda on sequestration," he said in a statement. "By releasing criminal immigrants onto the streets, the administration is needlessly endangering American lives."

'You Will Regret...':The Full 'Threat' Email a Top White House Official Sent Bob Woodward
Feb. 28, 2013 Madeleine Morgenstern
 Getty Images
Veteran Washington journalist Bob Woodward rocked the political and media world Wednesday after he claimed that a senior White House official threatened him over his reporting that President Barack Obama was actually behind the imminent forced federal budget cuts known as sequestration.
Woodward told Politico the exchange occurred in an email after the aide, later reported to be economic adviser Gene Sperling, "yelled at [him] for a half-hour." The line in question: "You're focusing on a few specific trees that give a very wrong impression of the forest. But perhaps we will just not see eye to eye here. ... I think you will regret staking out that claim."
Woodward "repeated the last sentence, making clear he saw it as a veiled threat. " 'You'll regret.' Come on," he said. "I think if Obama himself saw the way they're dealing with some of this, he would say, 'Whoa, we don't tell any reporter 'you're going to regret challenging us.'"
Politico published the email exchange between Sperling and Woodward in full Thursday morning:

Lanny Davis: White House Threatened Me, Too
Thursday, February 28, 2013 04:03 PM
By: Lisa Barron
Newsmax blogger Lanny Davis on Thursday claimed that he too has been on the receiving end of threats from the White House as a result of columns he has written about President Barack Obama.
Davis, former special counsel to President Bill Clinton, said that his Washington Times editor, John Solomon, "received a phone call from a senior Obama White House official who didn't like some of my columns, even though I'm a supporter of Obama."
"I couldn't imagine why this call was made," Davis told Washington radio station WMAL. "And he did threaten that if he continued to run my columns, he would lose, or his reporters would lose, their White House credentials."
Davis was speaking before Gene Sperling, economic adviser to the president, was identified as the White House official who last week told Washington Post editor Bob Woodward he would "regret" writing a column criticizing Obama's stance on the sequester. Davis did not name the official involved in his case.

Metcalfe Seeks to Make Federal Gun-Grabbing A Criminal Offense in Pennsylvania
|
HARRISBURG - State Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) today announced his legislation that would make any new federal gun control laws unenforceable within the Commonwealth.
"Passage of my legislation will send the message that there will never be additional gun control, anywhere in Pennsylvania," said Metcalfe. "Whether by White House executive orders, congressional fiat, or judicial activism, we will never allow the left to benefit from the wicked acts of murderers in order advance their senseless gun-grabbing agenda which would only succeed in replacing one of our most sacred personal liberties with the chains of government tyranny."
Similar to legislation most recently introduced in Wyoming and Texas, Metcalfe's Right to Bear Arms Protection Act (House Bill 357) would:
- Prohibit enforcement of any new federal registration, restriction or prohibition requirement for privately owned firearms, magazines and ammunition.
- Require the state of Pennsylvania, including the Office of Attorney General, to intercede on behalf of Commonwealth citizens against any federal attempt to register, restrict or ban the purchase or ownership of firearms and firearms accessories which are currently legal products.
Final enactment of Metcalfe's Right to Bear Arms Protection Act would mean that anyone - even federal agents - who try to enforce any type of gun control restriction within state borders would face arrest and being charged with a felony offense.
"The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned," said Metcalfe. "Article 1, Section 21 of the Pennsylvania Constitution makes it crystal clear that no level of government, especially the federal government, has any authority whatsoever to impose senseless restrictions on law-abiding firearms owners, or worse, the confiscation of legally owned firearms. The purpose of my legislation is to force any gun-grabbing federal official to count the costs of unconstitutionally disarming or denying Pennsylvania citizens their God-given right to keep and bear arms."
Metcalfe is also calling on all Pennsylvania citizens who support Constitutional liberty to attend Pennsylvania's annual Second Amendment Action Day on Tuesday, April 23, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the State Capitol Rotunda, and to sign the all-new Armed Pennsylvania: Say to No Gun Control petition by visiting RepMetcalfe.com.

Dear Member and Friends,
For the moment, our focus shifts to Washington as weighty legislative matters are being considered.
Call2Conscience
As reported yesterday, the Association has joined the Susan B. Anthony List and over 50 other organizations in a Call2Conscience campaign.
The goal of Call2Conscience is simple: Mobilize as many Americans as possible to contact Congress this week and demand that conscience & religious liberty protections be included in upcoming legislation.
This is a First Amendment issue that has nothing to do with limiting access to contraception--as the left would have us all believe. This about stopping
the Obama administration from forcing Religious institutions to participate in economic activities they deem offensive and immoral.
You can send your Representative an e-mail through the Coalition Action Center at http://www.call2conscience.com/.
Or, if you wish to call your Representative, call the Capitol Switchboard @
202.224.3121
Sequestration
As Sequestration quickly approaches, President Obama is demagogueing the issue for maximum political advantage.
Even though he was a major force behind the deal that would automatically cut roughly $85 billion from this year's budget and 1.2 trillion over the next ten years, he wants to be sure the American people blame Republicans for any pain that is felt (real or imaginary).
But Association members and friends are not so easily fooled by the president's irrational rhetoric.
By over a 2-1 margin (source: Association February survey), you had no problem accepting the 'dire' ramifications predicted by the White House.
February 2013 T-Survey Results
Call your Congressman/woman @ 202.224.3121 and tell them to stand firmly behind the sequester's across-the-board, non-discretionary spending cuts.

Hello Patriots on this Day!
We need to make daily calls to Washington to stop infringement on our 2nd Amendment rights!!
Senator Casey 1-866-802-2833 www.casey.senate.gov/contact
Rep. Fitzpatrick (R-8) 215-579-8102 www.fitzpatrick.house.gov
Rep. Meehan (R-7) 610-690-7323 www.meehan.house.gov
Rep. Schwartz (D-13) 215-517-6572 www.schwartz.house.gov
Rep. Chaka Fattah 215-871-4455
Rep. Bob Brady 610-874-7094
Important Dates:
- February 15 - March 27, 2013 - Debt Ceiling: Sometime in this date range we are expected to reach the debt ceiling (Technically we have already hit the debt ceiling, but this is the date range when we will reach a point where the Treasury can no longer implement "extraordinary measures" to meet our spending obligations.
- February 28, 2013 - Sequestration: The "fiscal cliff" bill created a new manufactured crisis that will happen sometime at the end of February. This is when the sequestration can was kicked down the road.
- March 31, 2013 - Continuing Resolution: The current Continuing Resolution that the government is operating under expires on March 31. This means that they will have to pass a CR between now and then.
- April 15, 2013 - Budget Resolution: This is the date by law in which both Houses should have a budget resolution passed. We are already hearing that the President is late in submitting his budget, the House is reporting that they will not meet their deadline for a budget, and the Senate... well they haven't passed a budget in over 1,350 days.
Any questions, holler.

Dear Patriots:
Our next meeting of the Philadelphia Tea Party Patriots-Lower Bucks will be March 6, 2013 at 7 PM. PLEASE NOTE; THIS MEETING IS ON A WEDNESDAY!! The meeting will take place at Erwin's Country Kitchen, 4059 Brownsville Road in Trevose.
We're looking to increase our group! Join us...bring a friend or two.
An invitation has gone out to Concerned Gun Owners of Bucks County to speak at our meeting. The 2nd Amendment must be a concern of all law-abiding citizens. We CANNOT let the opposition infringe upon our God given rights.
Mike Henry was hired as the Philadelphia Regional Coordinator for Heritage Action. Mike will be speaking to our group at the meeting. He joined Heritage Action after successfully running a local outreach campaign as an intern for American Majority Action in southeastern Pennsylvania. During the campaign, he worked closely with local tea party groups to organize their canvassing efforts. He is an alumnus of Archmere Academy, in Claymont, Delaware, and will be a 2013 graduate from Pennsylvania State University. Heritage Action is the Pennsylvania think tank of Heritage Foundation which is being led by former Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC).
We have persons within our group who give a short summary of what is happening in their community.
What are the hot issues in Harrisburg? How do you feel about Governor Corbett's budget? liquor privatization? Agenda 21?
Why is Penn State on the New Drone Authorization List? Who is funding these drones?
How do you feel about Immigration? the "No Labels" group in Congress? and lots more discussion.

We would like to clarifiy the Prothonotary candidates for the upcoming Republican Primary are Michelle Christian (not Diane) and Pat Bachtle. It does not change a call for an open primary in this race.
Why all the fuss about a Prothonotary race?
If you have wondered what a Prothonotary is, you are not alone. In addition, whoever thought that it would be the focus of a power struggle within the Bucks County GOP for the 2013 elections?
There are two people running for Prothonotary this May. Pat Bachtle a long time incumbent and a newcomer Diane Christian. On paper this looks ok, but when you take a closer look, more questions than answers arise.
The Tea Party should be happy to see a newcomer on the ticket. Right?
We should be happy to see the incumbent challenged by a newcomer. Right? Except this newcomer was hand selected by Bucks County GOP Chairwoman Pat Poprik.
Do you remember the countless "newcomers" who have tried to run for office in the past few years? They were handily dismissed by the party leadership and told that positions only go to those who have worked hard for the party over several years. Pat Bachtle is the incumbent Prothonotary and has worked for the party for many years. Now Pat Poprik is embracing a newcomer that she has hand selected with no prior experience or record. There is clearly a double standard.
One does not have to think too hard to figure out what the reaction would be to an unknown Tea Party candidate running against an established incumbent. Remember when the GOP called the Constables to intervene against non-endorsed GOP candidates in 2010?
Why is the party chair deciding to pick this fight when Bucks County is becoming more liberal? This has the potential to leave the seat wide open for a Democrat grab. Bucks County GOP money should not be spent in a primary for a Prothonotary seat. This is foolish and wasteful use of resources.
We at The Kitchen Table Patriots
are calling for an Unendorsed Primary. Let the best candidate win. The registered Republicans of Bucks County should decide on primary election day who should be the next Prothonotary on the Republican ticket. Not a small group of GOP County Executives, half of which were appointed by the Chair of the Party. It doesn't seem like a fair process does it.
If you are a registered Republican and live in Bucks County Pennsylvania we are urging you to contact your local committee person and ask them to vote for no endorsement. If you do not know who you committee person is than call the Bucks County Republican Headquarters at 215-345-8811
Also We urge you to clear your calendar and attend the Bucks County GOP executive committee meeting on Thursday March 7 at PM. at the Republican Headquarters in Doylestown. The is the night that the executive committee, half of which were hand picked by the county chair will endorse. Come and speak your mind to your elected Executive. Let the Republican party know you are watching and paying attention.

Important Announcement from SFL
|
You're probably wondering why you've been getting more emails from me and Sustainable Freedom Lab after having had next to none for quite some time.
Well, the truth is that I've been very busy. As always, I spend enormous amounts of my time researching, writing, and speaking to the public about the threats of Agenda 21 and Regionalism.
I've also been working on important projects behind the scenes.
Now I'm finally ready to reveal the first of these "secret" projects: The DVD version of "Stopping Agenda 21 in Your Community".
Like the title suggests, this DVD program offers step-by-step training on how you can fight back against those who would bring Agenda 21 into your community. The test audience who saw this program during the limited streaming we held last Fall felt it was critical viewing for anyone concerned about the erosion of our property rights.
Click here to read my blog post on the SFL website about our first DVD.

American Policy Center has recently released a booklet that explains everything you need to know to start fighting back against sustainable programs both locally and nationally. The booklet is called Special Report: Agenda 21 and How to Stop It and is available in the APC store for only $5.95.
I wrote this 35 page booklet in order to give activists a succinct resource they can refer to if they suspect Agenda 21 or Sustainable Development is being implemented in their area. It includes my own research coupled with incredibly helpful graphics created by Carroll County, Maryland Commissioner Richard Rothschild.
In the booklet you will find answers to several roadblocks that grassroots anti-Agenda 21 activists often face, including a definition of property rights and "Resolution to Protect Citizens' Property Rights," which many concerned citizens are already using to tie the hands of power hungry politicians.
This booklet is a great resource for anyone interested in preserving their property rights. It includes all the information to put up a first line of defense and step by step instructions for how to proceed from there. If you face Agenda 21 or Sustainable development in your area or are simply concerned with the national fight this booklet is a must read.

Has Communist Ideology Overtaken America? Education is crucial. Today I want to share two very interesting lists with you, and rather than adding an extensive amount of my commentary, I want to give you the chance to examine the facts for yourself. It is my opinion that many communist goals have already been accomplished. I also believe that advancement has been made in other areas. But, you owe it to yourself to do your own research. I believe not only in the freedom of speech, but also in the responsibility of free thought. So please don't take my word for it. Examine the facts for yourself.
Again, I want to share two lists with you. The first is a list that was entered into 1963 Congressional Record. The second is the 10 planks of The Communist Manifesto.
If you can't see this happening in America, and a ton of progress being made, then I offer two potential explanations:
- You are one of the "useful idiots" of communist teaching.
- I am one of the "village idiots" that your Mama probably warned you about.
Some of these points will be open for debate and some will not. In some cases it is blatantly obvious that they have achieved their goals. It is even rumored that our own President has deep communist ties. You might want to check that out as well but I will withhold my opinion at this point. Let's just lay it out and you can interpret it.
This list was originally printed in "The Naked Communist" by Cleon Skousen. It was entered into Congressional Record in 1963 as the 45 goals of "The Communist Takeover of America."

Yes, it's true: You can support ACT! for America-at no cost to you! An important message from Guy Rodgers, Executive Director
The next time you make an online purchase of almost anything, you could be helping ACT! for America-at no cost to you. Sound too good to be true? It isn't. All you have to do is sign up for "iGive"-a program that's been around since 1997. The concept is as powerful as it is simple.
Every time an iGive member makes an online purchase at over 1,000 brand-name stores, a percentage of that purchase is donated to that person's charity of choice.
|
And with the holidays just around the corner, you could be helping ACT! for America with every gift you buy! The concept isn't new. In the mid-1990s many supporters of non-profit organizations signed up with long distance telephone programs where a percentage of their bill was donated to their charity of choice. But our investigation of iGive has convinced us that this program has an ease of use and sophistication that we find remarkable.
- Imagine booking a hotel room on Orbitz-and having 1.6% of that purchase price donated to ACT! for America.
- Or buying an Xbox at Best Buy-and having 1.2% of the purchase price donated to ACT! for America.
|
The same goes for buying merchandise at Amazon, Bath and Body Works, Advance Auto Parts, Game Stop, Kmart, Home Depot, Holiday Inn, Old Navy, NASCAR Superstore, Overstock.com, Mattel, J.C. Penney, Office Max, QVC, Radio Shack, Shoe Carnival, Pottery Barn-and on and on the list goes.
|
In other words, every time you make a purchase of merchandise you would buy anyway, you would be financially supporting ACT! for America! All you have to do is log on below and follow the directions to create your account and download the iGive "button." (Note: downloading the "button" is key).
Get Started Here!
When I was first informed of iGive, I was skeptical. I've seen these ideas come and go. Often, they're too good to be true. Or there are all kinds of glitches and problems. So I spent hours researching. I looked at online customer reviews (which were very good). I read all of iGive's fine print, such as Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. I signed up and even emailed two tech support questions to see how good their tech support was.
And the more I dug, the more I liked what I saw. For instance, both of my tech support questions were responded to within 60 minutes. How often does THAT happen?
|
As you know from our Patriot Partner program, we're all about encouraging a lot of people to each do a little-to do something. When everyone does a little, together we accomplish a lot. So consider what could happen.
If just 1% of ACT! for America members each purchased just $400 in merchandise in 2013, from all the available outlets, and the average percentage donated to ACT! was 1.5%, the total amount donated back to ACT! for America would be... ...$15,000. That's a lot of money, wouldn't you agree? And if you were one of those ACT! for America members, it wouldn't cost you one thin dime to help ACT! for America receive $15,000. If this idea really caught on, and eventually 5% of our members made purchases with iGive, that $15,000 could explode to $50,000, $75,000 or more!
|
What's more, that 1.5% figure might be low. Many of the merchants offer percentage donations that are much higher. One printer inkjet company I looked at offered 13%! Every merchant website you visit tells you right at the top what percentage of your purchase price will be donated to ACT! for America. Just think what we could accomplish with an extra $15,000, $50,000 or $75,000 in our fight against radical Islam!
Get Started Here!
One of the things I most wanted to know was their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Check it out for yourself. I confirmed the terms with a company representative. And I like what I learned. As security-conscious as I am, I have no hesitation using the service-and I'm already doing so.
|
I know there are many people out there who would love to support ACT! for America, or give more than they're giving, but in these tough economic times they simply can't. Well, here's a way that everyone who believes in our mission can easily support what we're doing-at no cost to them. It doesn't get any better than that.
There are already chapter leaders who have signed up for the program, and the feedback I have been getting from them has been all positive. They love the idea and many of them are already using it.
|
So please, join me and these ACT! for America chapter leaders who are already signed up and using the iGive service. Yours for a safe and free America

Individuals sympathetic to the Muslim Brotherhood's sinister agenda have infiltrated the Obama Administration.
Brainwashed by the Muslim Students Association and then propelled in to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the David Horowitz Freedom Center tracks the path of Huma Abedin and other Muslim sympathizers who have navigated their way into positions of great influence in the Obama Administration. Everything is revealed in the explosive new Freedom Center pamphlet, "The Muslim Brotherhood in the Obama Administration," written by Frank Gaffney, national security expert who served as Assistant Secretary of Defense under Ronald Reagan.
The David Horowitz Freedom Center is committed to educating the public on the Muslim Brotherhood's sinister Agenda. That is why we are giving away this pamphlet for FREE.

PA Liquor Sales Privatization
What is going on with PA Liquor privatization? PA House majority leader Turzai will introduce a House Bill on March 4. The bill number is HB 790. This bill is supported by Governor Corbett and will essentially privatize liquor sales in Pennsylvania. With control of both the Senate and the House in the control of Republicans, this bill should "sail through" both chambers and be signed by the Governor. The problem is that not all Republicans are on the same page. Rep. John Taylor, the lone Republican House member from Philadelphia is the Chair of the House Liquor Control Committee. He has previously gutted privatization bills. He has stated that he "wants to slow things down" and "avoid the chaotic process that other states have experienced." Therefore, we need citizens to email and call members of the committee and ask them to support privatization now. Example: Dear Representative ________ I urge you to support HB 790 to privatize the PA State Stores. Please do not allow special interest amendments to slow the process down with partial privatization over time. It is time to quit talking and take the action supported by the citizens of the state and Governor Corbett. It is time to get the Commonwealth to get out of the booze business and focused on its regulatory responsibilities. Thank you. Who are the members of this committee? If your representative is on this committee organize an email and phone call operation NOW. Republican Members: Taylor, John, Chair Miccarelli, Nicholas A, III, Secretary Mustio, Mark, Subcommittee Chair on Marketing Payne, John D., Subcommittee Chair on Licensing Delozier, Sheryl M., Ellis, Brian L., Kampf, Warren, Killion, Thomas H., Krieger, Timothy Lawrence, John A., Masser, Kurt A., Petri, Scott A., Reese, Mike, Regan, Mike, Sonney, Curtis G. Democrat Members: Costa, Paul, Chair Davis, Tina M., Democratic Secretary Kotik, Nick, Subcommittee Democratic Chair on Licensing Mahoney, Tim, Subcommittee Democratic Chair on Marketing

RedState Morning Briefing
For March 1, 2013
Dear Friends,
This morning we all woke up and realized we are dead. At midnight we starved to death, the plugs on our ventilators were turned out, airplanes fell from the sky, the TSA stopped administering prostate exams, and the only good thing is children were born because Planned Parenthood had no money to abort them.
That's right, today is Sequestration Day and we're all dead, dying, out of federal money, or in burning houses without firefighters, teachers, and policemen to rescue us. The President said so. We have to believe him. Women and cowboy poetry hardest hit.
In all seriousness, for over a week the man has been campaigning with such hyperbole I've been expecting any day he'd claim sequestration would mean we all get E.D. (including the women) and the Mayan calender was only off by a couple of months. The hystrionics have been ridiculous.
Today the sun came up, you and I are alive and well, and the government, sadly, is still open for business. Today, some Americans will get paychecks and taxes will still have been taken out and sent to the IRS. We need to keep pointing that out. Oh, and Republicans are, today, working on a deal to ensure Obamacare gets fully funded.
Good morning to you.
1. House & Senate Republicans Set to Endorse and Fund Obamacare
You want to know why the left is more successful at politics? They are willing to move heaven and earth to create new dependency programs, despite the electoral risks. They understand that once the program is implemented, Republicans will never have the guts to undo it. And they are correct. Even some of our best conservatives lack the gumption to do what it takes to eliminate the worst program of all time - Obamacare.
In fact, House conservatives, not just the general rank and file Republicans, appear set to endorse Obamacare and approve its funding. Yes, even former Republican Study Committee ("RSC") Chairmen Jeb Hensarling and Jim Jordan along with present RSC Chairman Steve Scalise will do so, but I'm sure ACU will give them sufficiently high "conservative" scores to hide behind like they did with Mitch McConnell.
It's ironic to watch some of the real conservatives and a lot of the so-called conservatives get excited about the prospect of producing a balanced budget with healthcare entitlement reform. Do these people really think we will be able to reform Medicare, which is a wildly popular program, when they lack the testicular fortitude to pull the trigger on Obamacare - a program that is still unpopular?
Republicans promised to defund Obamacare. They lied. Now we are at the end of the rope. If we don't engage in a fight to the death over funding for Obamacare, it will forever be enshrined in the welfare state; it will forever relegate us to lethargic growth; it will forever make private healthcare unaffordable.
No - this is not one of those issues we shrug off and surrender due to an election. This is a fight we cannot lose because a majority of Americans still oppose Obamacare. This is a fight we must not lose or we'll be talking in 20 years from now how to muster the courage to implement minuscule reforms to this behemoth, the same way we are talking now about Medicare.
Next week, the House will be voting on the CR to fund the government for the rest of the fiscal year. This is our last best chance to defund this thing and ensure it never takes root. There's nothing more important to force a fight over than Obamacare. The fight over the sequester is already over. Take yes for an answer and move on.
Unlike some of the frauds in Congress these days and some real conservatives who have lost their testicular fortitude to fight, Reps. Jim Bridenstine (OK) and Tim Huelskamp (KS) actually take their campaign pledges seriously. They actually understand we are in a pitched battle for the future of the country, and they know the stakes of losing that battle. They have circulated a letter calling on Boehner to block all funding for Obamacare in the CR.
Now we will find out who is down for the struggle. Call your Republican members of Congress and ask them if they plan to sign this letter or if they'd like to participate in the decline of our country.
Republicans in the House are going to pass a continuing resolution in which they will endorse Obamacare and its funding. That is a fact. Congressmen like Jim Jordan (OH), Tom Graves (GA), Marsha Blackburn (TN), Mick Mulvaney (SC), Tom Cotton (AR), Raul Labrador (ID) and so many others conservatives will probably vote for the rule to ensure the continuing resolution passes, then vote against it on the floor to claim they really did not endorse Obamacare. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2. Google and Democrats deny that Google is helping Democrats
A couple weeks ago, I warned conservatives about Google's entanglement with the Left, and the possibility that Google could provide data intelligence to Democrats. Not the usual consumer data that everybody uses, but a level of real-time behavioral data far beyond what Republicans could ever achieve using available consumer data. That concern was dismissed as a conspiracy theory by some people.
The question isn't whether Google collaborates with Democrats, but how Google collaborates with Democrats. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3. Agenda: How Marxists Are Grinding America Down
Whenever I speak to groups about the state of America, the fight for her future and how to become a Force Multiplier, I am often critical of the fact that so many people on our side do not really understand the enemy we are fighting from within.
While I tend to focus more on the present hydras on the Left and what to do about them, a good history lesson is crucial in understanding that the organized war to destroy America really does go back nearly 150 years-all the way back to the 1880s, which is roughly the time Marxists began infiltrating unions in an attempt to take them over here in the U.S. [They have now.]
Nearly two years ago, I ran across a video called "Agenda: Grinding America Down." At the time, I wanted to watch it in order to write a review for the readers here at RedState. So, I ordered it. Unfortunately, as happens with about half the posts I'd like to write, it (and the video) got shelved-until about two weeks ago. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4. Fracking: Drilling Past The Myths
It's probably safe to say that most Americans are unaware of what the term "fracking" means. If you've heard of it, the details can be hard to pin down due to the controversy surrounding the method of gas extraction. With mainstream movies like Gasland and The Promised Land on their side, those opposing fracking have easily buried the truth below layers of myths. Fortunately, as we no longer live in a time when Hollywood and the left are the only media outlets, understanding what fracking truly entails is not completely lost. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
5. The Obamacare Fiscal Cliff
Obama claims that his tax plan would only increase the tax burden on those earning more than $200,000. What the Democrats, the media, and even Republicans fail to mention is that there is another aspect of the fiscal cliff that will hit everyone. A number of Obamacare's tax increases are scheduled to take effect in January. These tax increases will be severely regressive to those at the middle and bottom of the income ladder, as they will engender a record spike in the cost of health insurance premiums. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
6. Three Tools to Educate an Uninformed Electorate on the Fiscal Cliff
Over several months now, I have been devoting attention to the question of how conservatives can win both policy debates and elections, not by appropriating policies that Democrats advocate and putting a Republican stamp on them, but rather by educating Americans and converting those who don't already share our perspective to it.
My basic thesis is that we win by getting more people to agree with us (others would have us believe that we win by getting us to agree with more people).
In the last election, we saw a significant failure on this front, both with regard to our own nominee being less committed to both conservative policies and this effort than many of us would have liked, and with regard to the result (voters supporting the guy who ran on a platform of higher spending and more debt).
We also saw Republicans fail to use technology and digital communications mechanisms adequately to educate and persuade voters of the merits of conservative viewpoints, and then organize them to do the things necessary to win the election.

Suppose you desperately needed to lose weight but had a Big Mac with fries and a Coke staring you in the face. You could take your need to diet seriously and say, "No thanks, I'll have a salad." Or you could decide to reduce the Big Mac meal by 2 percent-pushing aside a couple French fries and gobbling up the rest.
If you took Option B, how do you think that "diet" would work out for you? Well, that, my friends, is the tale of the sequester that hit us this morning.
For the past few days the White House, with a big assist from sympathetic media, has done all within its considerable powers to make it seem like sequestration means the end of the world. If all you've heard is their side, you might be forgiven for thinking that the Mayans were right after all-just off by a couple of months on their prediction of the apocalypse.
This political panic needs a little common sense. In the last decade, federal spending has exploded from a $2 trillion budget in 2002 to a $3.5 trillion budget in 2012-a 75 percent increase. Over the next 10 years, the budget is projected to grow another 69 percent to $6 trillion. The sequester barely taps the brakes on this runaway spending, still allowing a 67 percent increase over the next 10 years. Too much to ask of Washington?

My friend, we are at a crossroads. We all know America faces challenges and problems on many, many fronts. We can choose to throw up our hands in despair and give up. Or we can draw strength from those who have faced great challenges, and steadfastly determine to re-double our efforts.
Just this week, two little-noticed events occurred, one on the East Coast, one on the West Coast, that remind us what can happen if we persevere, if we don't give up, if we have courage.
|
|
In Washington state, one of our top chapter leaders helped a student with a report on Islam. In doing so, this chapter leader, using the ACT! for America Education textbook report, pointed out errors in how the student's textbook treated Islam. This student had the courage to give this report to the principal and point out the flawed textbook. Imagine that! A student in effect saying to a principal, "this textbook has errors." The principal read the student's report-and decided to remove the offending textbook!

Profiles in courage. The student-and the principal.

In Northern Virginia, ACT! for America grassroots activists bombarded a local school board with emails and phone calls opposing an application for a charter school. Many showed up at the school board meeting. The charter school applicants are affiliated with the Gulen movement, a huge global Islamist movement led by a man named Fethullah Gulen. A movement that the publication "Jane's Islamic Affairs Analyst" called "Turkey's third power... a powerful political movement..." The school board voted 8 - 1 to deny the application. As one ACT! for America chapter leader put it, referring to the Gulen charter school applicants, "no one's been able to stop them-until now."

Profiles in courage. The ACT! for America concerned citizens and the school board, who all risked being called "Islamophobes."

On Thursday evening, June 20th, during our National Conference & Legislative Briefing gala banquet, we will honor three "profiles in courage."
You need to be there if it's humanly possibly. Because we all need inspiration now and then. We all need encouragement. We all need to be reminded that we can prevail. We all need to be reminded that we're not fighting the good fight alone. These two victories above illustrate what ACT! for America is all about. Most people will never know they happened. But we do. And with every victory, great or small, noticed or unnoticed, we are turning the tide against the threat of radical Islam. A tide that has overwhelmed Europe and the United Kingdom because too few people had the courage, clarity and perseverance to resist. This is not the time to surrender to despair, discouragement, or hopelessness. This is the time to recognize that, when it comes to the threat of radical Islam here in America, we are prevailing. If you are one of those who is more determined than ever, we need you at the national conference. We need to draw from your strength. If you are one of those who needs encouraging, you need to be there with us. Because we're all in this together. Like everyone else, there are days I battle discouragement. One of the ways I overcome that is just being around faithful ACT! for America supporters. Their spirit is electric, and contagious. So please join us on June 19 - 21. Because now is not the time to give up or give in. Now is the time for courage. Always devoted, Brigitte Gabriel

The Best Part of the Oscars 2013
America has been buzzing about the dresses, the stars, the winners, and the hit films all week. But the most important part of the Oscars is a real-life drama that is still playing out. It is not unusual for Hollywood actors to use their stardom to bring attention to human rights and humanitarian causes. But it is surprising when they do so in an effort to do right by U.S. national security. This is what Zero Dark Thirty actors Jessica Chastain and Jason Clarke did when they called for the release of Dr. Shakil Afridi, who helped the U.S. track Osama bin Laden, at Sunday's annual Academy Awards. Zero Dark Thirty, the story of the hunt for bin Laden, was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. A full-page ad in The Hollywood Reporter had urged the members of the Zero Dark Thirty cast and crew to highlight the travesty of the Afridi case. Noting that "without Dr. Afridi's sacrifice, we may not have pinpointed the world's most dangerous terrorist," the ad also asked, "Who will stand up to help America if this is how we treat our friends?" Dr. Afridi, a Pakistani citizen, was picked up by the Pakistani authorities a few weeks after the May 2, 2011, raid that killed Osama bin Laden. The doctor, at the behest of the U.S., apparently led a phony vaccination campaign in Abbottabad, Pakistan, in an attempt to secure DNA evidence from the residents living inside the bin Laden compound. Afridi was unable to obtain the samples, but U.S. officials have acknowledged he provided information that helped U.S. officials locate bin Laden. Some media reports indicate that Dr. Afridi may have turned down an offer from the U.S. government to leave the country immediately after the bin Laden raid. While in hindsight, his decision was terribly ill-advised, Afridi says he never imagined he would be punished for helping to locate the architect of 9/11. In May 2012, after he had been held for a year, a Pakistani tribal court sentenced Afridi to 33 years in jail on trumped-up charges that he had cooperated with militants in the tribal border areas. The real reason the Pakistanis convicted Afridi? Wounded pride. Pakistani military officials were livid about the U.S. decision to pursue the bin Laden operation unilaterally. But making Shakil Afridi the scapegoat for their anger is not acceptable. While some Pakistanis say their country is justified in detaining Afridi because he committed "espionage," the fact is that Dr. Afridi's cooperation with the CIA benefited the national security of Pakistan-not to mention every other civilized nation on the planet. And let's not forget that the man he helped the Navy SEALs target was not a Pakistani himself, but an international outlaw, an enemy of both our nations. The silence of the Obama Administration on the Afridi case has been disheartening. In his hearing to be confirmed as Secretary of State, John Kerry downplayed the Pakistanis' lack of cooperation in freeing Afridi. He chose to throw his weight behind the Pakistani government instead, saying, "We need to build our relationship with the Pakistanis, not diminish it." In reality, it is the Pakistani government that has "diminished" ties through its handling of the Afridi case in such a petty and ham-handed fashion. Pakistani military officials must stop viewing the bin Laden raid as a slight and instead recognize the threat terrorists pose to their own country's future. Ongoing tensions between Pakistan and the U.S. put both countries at a disadvantage in fighting terrorists. Pakistan's prosecution of Dr. Afridi on trumped-up charges not only reflects poorly on Pakistan's counterterrorism credentials, but it also makes a mockery of rule of law in the country. Pakistani leaders are reinforcing why the U.S. acted unilaterally against bin Laden in the first place and why international trust in Pakistan's commitment to fighting the terrorist scourge remains elusive. Hollywood has taken up a worthy cause to free a man that has helped make the world safer from global terrorism. Now it's time for the Obama Administration to show the same commitment to helping this real-life hero.

The Israel Lobby which controls American foreign policy, but has thus far been unable to get the United States to stop funding the terrorists currently shooting rockets at its 14th largest city, has struck again as Senate Democrats voted unanimously to make Chuck Hagel the next Secretary of Defense. The dreaded Israeli Lobby, Jewish Lobby, Israel Lobby or any other permutation of the form that you prefer, has largely kept silent during the Hagel nomination. The head of the ADL was heard to mutter something and the AJC suggested that the Senate should possibly rethink the nomination before falling silent again. As if anyone needed more proof that the Zionist Entity controls Washington. AIPAC and all the other groups who regularly send out envelopes warning of disaster if the check doesn't come in the mail have an amazing track record. When Israel builds apartment buildings in its own capital city, the State Department, that branch of government which Hagel claimed was an adjunct of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, denounces the provocative act of putting one brick on top of another. Meanwhile Saudi Arabia arrests Christians for celebrating Christmas and you couldn't pay the State Department to pay attention. Pakistan was hiding Bin Laden and still rolls in the foreign aid. Egypt's government is torturing protesters. Libya arrested Christian missionaries in Benghazi, but still can't be bothered to arrest those responsible for the murder of Ambassador Stevens. The Palestinian Authority hasn't held an election in forever and is actually paying the salaries of convicted terrorists. Meanwhile the dominant foreign policy topic is how to convince Israel to make more concessions to the terrorists. To hear them talk, East Jerusalem is the only thing standing in the way of peace in our time. And talk like that is just more evidence that the Israel Lobby really does run everything. Read more:

Last week, Bjorn Lomborg, the widely published Danish professor and director of one of the world's leading environmental think tanks, the Copenhagen Consensus Center, published an article about the Philippines' decision, after 12 years, to allow genetically modified (GM) rice -- "golden rice" -- to be grown and consumed in that country.
The reason for the delay was environmentalist opposition to GM rice; and the reason for the change in Philippine policy was that 4.4 million Filipino children suffer from vitamin A deficiency. That deficiency, Lomborg writes, "according to the World Health Organization, causes 250,000 to 500,000 children to go blind each year. Of these, half die within a year."
During the 12-year delay, Lomborg continues, "About eight million children worldwide died from vitamin A deficiency."
"Golden rice" contains vitamin A, making it by far the most effective and cheapest way to get vitamin A into Third World children.
So who would oppose something that could save millions of children's lives and millions of other children from blindness?
The answer is people who are more devoted to nature than to human life.
And who might such people be?
They are called environmentalists.

Gun Control-Demystified
Feb 28, 2013 05:13 am | Coach Collins
by Michael D. Shaw
Just as gun control posturing provides feckless politicians with a means of distracting the public from the pressing issues of the day, it also enables us to see inside the matrix, as the notion of "gun control" is at the nexus of several poorly understood and deliberately distorted precepts of American life.
Case in point, despite the omnipresent "To protect and serve" designations emblazoned on most marked police vehicles, courts at all levels have consistently held that the police have no duty to protect individuals. In a slogan that could have come straight out of George Orwell, the so-called "Public Duty" doctrine states that the police owe a duty to protect the public in general, but not to protect any particular individual.
In Warren v. District of Columbia, the DC Court of Appeals ruled against Carolyn Warren, even though the aid promised via her 911 call never arrived, the overall conduct of the police ... Continue Reading:Gun Control-Demystified

NEW ON PJ MEDIA |
Bob Woodward, of all people, was threatened by a Democrat White House. So where are his defenders? Where are the new hipster reporters of the left to defend him? This is serious stuff. When the elder statesman of the industry that guards the First Amendment is threatened by the White House, it marks a dangerous turn. When other "reporters" join in, it is even more dangerous.
As sequestration D-Day approaches courtesy of President Barack Obama, nicknamed "President Armageddon" by the Wall Street Journal, to be followed in a month by the debt-ceiling deadline, it's important to understand just how completely the nation's establishment press has not only abandoned its obligations in ways our Founders never anticipated, but has also chosen to become a team of de facto presidential advisers. | | TOP STORIES ON PJ MEDIA |
For the briefest moment on Capitol Hill today gun control crept back onstage as Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) led an emotional hearing on her latest attempt to renew the assault weapons ban. And Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), again proudly declaring his ownership of an AR-15, tangled with gun-control advocates over current enforcement of background checks.
Having Michelle Obama, first lady of the United States, present an Academy Award was such a brilliant strategy for advancing the post-structuralist deconstruction of America, even the Obamas themselves probably didn't realize how genius it was. | | MORE FROM PJ MEDIA |

Lanny Davis: Obama White House Threatened Washington Times Over My Column |
|
by Breitbart News
Lanny Davis, who served under President Bill Clinton as special counsel to the White House, told Washington, D.C.'s WMAL this morning that the Obama White House had threatened the Washington Times over his column, warning that the Times would suffer limited access to White House officials and might have its White House credentials revoked. Davis, a centrist Democrat, is sometimes critical of the Obama administration's policies.
Davis was speaking with Breitbart News editor Larry O'Connor, who co-hosts a morning show on WMAL. Davis said he had never spoken publicly about the threats before, but they seemed relevant after the White House told legendary reporter Bob Woodward that he would "regret" insisting that the White House had come up with the idea of the budget sequester, which President Barack Obama is now urging Congress urgently to revoke.

Thursday, February 28, 2013 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer
White House vs. Woodward As we predicted, the Obama White House was quick to retaliate against veteran journalist Bob Woodward. Yesterday evening, Woodward told CNN that a "very senior person" in the White House warned that he would "regret doing this." We now know that the person who relayed that threat was Gene Sperling, the director of the White House Economic Council. Woodward added, "It makes me very uncomfortable to have the White House telling reporters, 'You're going to regret doing something that you believe in.'" It should make all of us very uncomfortable, because this isn't the first time the Obama White House has threatened the media. Obama's loathing of Fox News has been well documented. Top White House officials have repeatedly tried to delegitimize Fox. But they have turned on liberals too. The Woodward flap has given Lanny Davis, a former top lawyer for Bill Clinton, the courage to come forward and tell his story about the Obama White House's vindictiveness. This morning, Davis told a leading Washington, D.C., talk radio show that the Obama White House tried to shut down a column Davis was writing for the Washington Times because, even though he supported Obama, he was occasionally critical of some of his policies. According to Davis, someone at the White House called his editor at the Times and threatened to revoke the press credentials for its reporters if Davis' column was not cancelled! Referring to the White House's attack on Bob Woodward, Davis added, "You don't threaten Bob Woodward. He's one of the best reporters ever. He's factual. ... Don't mess with him about his facts. You can mess with him about the interpretation of his facts, but this is not a reporter you tangle with." Our Founding Fathers knew how vital a free press was to the preservation of freedom. That's why they insisted on the First Amendment guaranteeing the freedom of speech. Bob Woodward is living proof of the power of truth and a free press to check a rogue government. But members of the media increasingly see themselves as partisan players rather than independent reporters. How else can you explain Dan Rather shamefully falling for fake documents in his overzealous quest to defeat George W. Bush? How else can you explain Big Media's attempt to ignore Jeremiah Wright or Chris Matthew's remark that it was his job to make sure Obama succeeded? Conservatives have warned that this Chicago gang plays hardball. Now even members of the liberal media are on the receiving end of it. Fact Checking Sequester Hysteria For weeks now, President Obama has been barnstorming the country, holding campaign rallies trying to convince us that the sequester cuts will result in the end of civilization as we know it. The Wall Street Journal published an editorial explaining just how much authority Obama has to minimize the "doom" he has been predicting, if he chooses to do so. The Journal editors added some perspective too, noting, "The truth is that the sequester already gives the White House the legal flexibility to avoid doom, if a 5% cut to programs that have increased more than 17% on average over the Obama Presidency counts as doom." Sunday, on CBS's "Face the Nation," Secretary of Education Arne Duncan did his best to scare the American people when he said, "There are literally teachers now who are getting pink slips, who are getting notices that they can't come back this fall." The news was so sensational that the Washington Post decided to check it out. But when Duncan was challenged to back up his claims of "pink slips," he could point to only one county in West Virginia. According to county officials, however, the notices involved transfers, not layoffs, and were unrelated to the sequester. Politico also questioned Obama's veracity with a column headlined, "Is President Obama telling the truth about sequestration?" In that column it was noted that education programs are forward funded, meaning that cuts to education programs would take effect next year, not this year, giving administrators that much more time to plan and mitigate their impact. Illegal Immigrants Released Now here is something that will make your blood pressure rise. Tuesday federal officials decided to begin releasing illegal immigrants from detention centers in eight states citing sequestration cuts as the reason. But the cuts have not yet gone into effect! Moreover, as I just noted, the administration has some authority to decide how to implement the cuts. Yet already the detention doors are swinging open. The White House claimed it had no knowledge of this decision, but that seems highly unlikely. Administration officials tried to reassure us that the individuals released were "noncriminals and other low-risk offenders who do not have serious criminal histories." Really? The New York Times tracked down one of the released illegal immigrants to learn his story. It turns out that he was detained after he had "violated probation for a conviction in 2005" for assault, battery and child abuse. Is that the definition of a "noncriminal" or someone with "no serious criminal history"? Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), chairman of the Judiciary Committee, blasted the administration, saying, "It's abhorrent that President Obama is releasing criminals into our communities to promote his political agenda on sequestration. By releasing criminal immigrants onto the streets, the administration is needlessly endangering American lives." Sadly, Rep. Goodlatte is right.

The 'Republican Sequester' Setup
Obama's Real Sequester Agenda
By Mark Alexander · February 28, 2013
"He who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it much easier to do it a second and a third time, till at length it becomes habitual..." --Thomas Jefferson (1785)
PhotoOp Prop Cops
Addressing the National Governors Association this week, Barack Hussein Obama proclaimed, "At some point, we've got to do some governing. And certainly, what we can't do is keep careening from manufactured crisis to manufactured crisis."
But Obama himself engineered his rapid political ascension -- from junior senator in 2005 to president of the United States in 2009 -- precisely by hopping "from manufactured crisis to manufactured crisis." Page one of his political playbook, authored by Rahm Emanuel, states: "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. ... This crisis provides the opportunity for us to do things that you could not before."
This unknown "community organizer" and disciple of hate, was mentored by avowed Marxists, who paved his way into the Illinois State Senate in 1997 and the U.S. Senate in 2005.
Virtually unknown, but backed by wealthy ultra-Leftists John Kerry and Teddy Kennedy, Obama won the presidential election in 2008 on a banking crisis precipitated by a manufactured mortgage crisis. He won a narrow re-election in 2012 based upon his tried-and-true manufactured classist disparity crisis.
Now Obama is trying to set up his Republican opponents for a fall in 2014, based upon a manufactured "Republican sequester crisis."
According to Obama: "Republicans in Congress face a simple choice: Are they willing to compromise to protect vital investments in education and health care and national security and all the jobs that depend on them? Or would they rather put hundreds of thousands of jobs and our entire economy at risk just to protect a few special interest tax loopholes that benefit only the wealthiest Americans and biggest corporations? That's the choice. Are you willing to see a bunch of first responders lose their job because you want to protect some special interest tax loophole? ... If [Republicans] allow this meat-cleaver approach to take place, it will jeopardize our military readiness; it will eviscerate job-creating investments in education and energy and medical research."
The litany continues: "Emergency responders -- their ability to help communities respond to and recover from disasters will be degraded. Border Patrol agents will see their hours reduced. FBI agents will be furloughed. Federal prosecutors will have to close cases and let criminals go. Air traffic controllers and airport security will see cutbacks, which means more delays at airports across the country. Thousands of teachers and educators will be laid off. Tens of thousands of parents will have to scramble to find childcare for their kids. Hundreds of thousands of Americans will lose access to primary care and preventive care like flu vaccinations and cancer screenings. And already, the threat of these cuts has forced the Navy to delay an aircraft carrier that was supposed to deploy to the Persian Gulf. And as our military leaders have made clear, changes like this ... affect our ability to respond to threats in unstable parts of the world."

Who's THAT on the Temple Mount?

It's holy ground ... Jerusalem's Temple Mount Abraham was tested here when God told him to offer Isaac as a sacrifice. King David built an alter here and purchased the ground. His son, Solomon, built the First Temple here. Jesus worshipped here in the Second Temple. Some see the Bible's mention of the "abomination of desolation" as reference to a future anti-Christ standing on this spot. The Palestinians have threatened to re-bury Yasser Arafat here. It's no ordinary destination ... which makes a rumored upcoming visit by THIS person very interesting ...

Live by the dagger, die by the dagger
Posted: 28 Feb 2013 03:54 PM PST
(Paul Mirengoff)
Normally, a mid-season NBA game between the Detroit Pistons and the Washington Wizards would be unworthy of comment, even by my off-beat approach to what's interesting in sports. But there's a lesson, albeit an unsurprising one, in last night's game between these two lowly teams.
With the Pistons leading 96-95 and time just about expired, the Wiz's Trevor Ariza took a potentially game-winning shot from the corner. The shot tickled the net, but neglected the cylinder. As one commentator later put it, Ariza's effort gave a new meaning to the basketball cliche "nothing but nylon."
Unfortunately, long-time Wizards television play-by-play man Steve Buckhantz proclaimed the shot good, using his trademark "dagger" call to emphasize that the Wizards had won the game on a buzzer beater. Detroit's play-by-play guy also announced that the shot was made but, seeing no indication to that effect from the players or the refs, suggested that time had run out before Ariza launched it.
Buckhantz has taken a fair amount of ridicule for his call, but it is undeserved. The error almost certainly occurred because he no longer announces from court side. Wizards management, under owner Ted Leonsis, banished Buckhantz and color commentator Phil Chenier to a higher elevation and, I am told, to a bad angle to boot. Had Buckhantz been in the seat he occupied for 15 years or so, he would presumably have seen that Ariza's shot was an air-ball, as the players and refs did. So too with the Detroit announcer.
I hardly need explain the reason for Buckhantz's exile. Leonsis wanted to install additional court side seats to sell for many hundreds of dollars ($800 is the price I've heard).
I have nothing against trying to make a buck. But one might have hoped for an owner prepared to forgo a small slice of revenue in the name of providing fans with reliable descriptions of game action. Even in this day and age, such a hope is not unreasonable. So far, anyway, Washington and Philadelphia have banished their announcers from court side.
Calling a missed shot good is embarrassing but correctable. It's the small things Buckhantz and Chenier inevitably will miss from their inferior vantage point that bother me more.
At least Buckhantz seems to reacting to what he calls his "retracted dagger" with reasonably good cheer. Today he quipped "you live by the dagger and you die by it."

It's Time to Tighten Up On Firearms Background Checks
Posted: 28 Feb 2013 01:36 PM PST
(John Hinderaker)
Specifically, to make sure that Joe Biden never, ever gets his hands on a firearm. Biden loves shotguns-nothing wrong with that, but it appears that every time he fires one, somebody's life is in danger. Here is the latest:
I did one of these town-hall meetings on the Internet and one guy said, "Well, what happens when the end days come? What happens when there's the earthquake? I live in California, and I have to protect myself." I said, "Well, you know, my shotgun will do better for you than your AR-15, because you want to keep someone away from your house, just fire the shotgun through the door."
Off the porch, through the door-someone needs to tell Joe that you aren't supposed to pull the trigger unless you have some idea who or what you are shooting at. Maybe Congress could pass a law to the effect that all background checks must include an animated GIF of the proposed purchaser. If he looks like this, the application will be denied:
That GIF is courtesy of the Washington Free Beacon.
Still unexplained is why the Obama administration loves shotguns and hates AR-15s. Biden continued:
Most people can handle a shotgun a hell of a lot better than they can a semiautomatic weapon in terms of both their aim and in terms of their ability to deter people coming. We can argue whether that's true or not, but it is no argument that, for example, a shotgun could do the same job of protecting you. Now, granted, you can come back and say, "Well, a machine gun could do a better job of protecting me." No one's arguing we should make machine guns legal.
But a great many people think AR-15s are better for self-defense than shotguns. In fact, many police departments equip their officers with AR-15s, for precisely that reason. And more murders are committed with shotguns than with rifles, let alone a subset of rifles like semiautomatics or "black" rifles. So where does the idea come from that we have a constitutional right to own shotguns, but not semiautomatic rifles?

Hey Liberals-How Come No Wealth Tax?
Posted: 28 Feb 2013 11:51 AM PST
(Steven Hayward)
Huey Long
For all of the liberal caterwauling about disparities in wealth, one thing I don't understand is why no one, not even the socialist senator from Vermont Bernie Sanders in full bulging-neck-vein mode, has started channeling Huey Long and calling for a serious wealth tax. After all, even if you raise the top marginal income tax rate back up to the Krugman nirvana level of 91 percent, it won't touch the vast wealth of the Buffetts and Gates-ses of the world for a simple reason-the great bulk of their wealth was accumulated not as income subject to tax, but in the appreciated asset value of their investments and businesses. It has been the rise in asset values over the last generation that has contributed more to wealth disparities than differences in earned income levels. That's why higher income tax rates do little or nothing to reduce wealth disparities, and why it is of little consequence for Buffett and Gates to support higher income tax rates. And with just a few bits of fancy tax accounting footwork, the Buffetts and Gates-ses can tap their wealth without having to pay income taxes on it even then.
I'm surprised that not even the inventive Cass Sunstein has argued that if there had been equity securities at the time of the Founding, the Founding Fathers would have subjected them to the equivalent of a property tax. After all, one of the earliest taxes, challenged unsuccessfully at the Supreme Court in Hylton v. U.S. in 1796, was a carriage tax that the Court ruled was a permissible excise tax just like taxes on land. And just who would have been paying "carriage taxes" in 1796? Why, the 1 percent, of course. It was a tax on rich people, probably enacted in response to the populist "Occupy the Stable" movement.
Here's how Huey Long argued the case in his "Every Man a King" speech in 1935:
Every man a king, so there would be no such thing as a man or woman who did not have the necessities of life, who would not be dependent upon the whims and caprices and ipsi dixit of the financial martyrs for a living. What do we propose by this society? We propose to limit the wealth of big men in the country. . . We have to limit fortunes. Our present plan is that we will allow no one man to own more than $50,000,000. We think that with that limit we will be able to carry out the balance of the program. It may be necessary that we limit it to less than $50,000,000. It may be necessary, in working out of the plans, that no man's fortune would be more than $10,000,000 or $15,000,000. But be that as it may, it will still be more than any one man, or any one man and his children and their children, will be able to spend in their lifetimes; and it is not necessary or reasonable to have wealth piled up beyond that point where we cannot prevent poverty among the masses.
C'mon liberals; step up. It isn't necessary to go as far as Long (heh). An excise tax of 1 percent on Buffett's assets would yield something like $350 million a year. Throw in Gates, the founders of Google, Apple, and Facebook, and the Hollywood moguls, and we're looking at billions a year. And why not? They can afford it. Oh wait, you're right. If liberals actually proposed an honest-to-God wealth tax, a lot of those rich Silicon Valley and Hollywood liberals would become Republicans in a big hurry. But this also shows you what craven wusses liberals are today.

Bob Woodward's perfect storm
Posted: 28 Feb 2013 10:42 AM PST
(Paul Mirengoff)
Until very recently, I had a hard time imagining what it would take to get the mainstream media riled up about the Obama administration. After all, even the Benghazi horror failed to accomplish this.
But the Bob Woodward flap has remedied my failure of imagination. Whatever the merit of Woodward's specific charge that the White House, through Gene Sperling, threatened him, the controversy at a minimum has struck a nerve with the MSM. And, more than that, it may produce a new chapter in the relationship between the White House and the MSM - one marked by a diminished ability of the former to rely on the latter.
With unerring instinct, Woodward has produced something like a perfect storm. First, the controversy is about the media, as opposed to something trivial like overwhelming national debt or the death of a U.S. ambassador. Second, it's about individual reporters. Even the most dedicated Obama supporter will be tempted to join the queue of reporters important enough to have received "the Woodward treatment" from the White House.
Third, the flap arises at a perfect time. Now that Obama has safely been reelected, and with the Republicans supposedly in hopeless disarray, the pent up frustration of reporters - some arising inevitably from the nature of president-press relations and some arising from the particular arrogance of this administration - needs an outlet. What better outlet than a story about pressmen initiated by the Dean of pressman glorification?

Did Woodward overreact?
Posted: 28 Feb 2013 08:26 AM PST
(Paul Mirengoff)
As Scott pointed out yesterday, Bob Woodward has thrust himself even further into the sequestration saga by complaining that a "very senior person" at the White House warned him in an email that he would "regret" his comment that President Obama moved the goal post by asking for more revenue. Politico has presented what purports to be the email containing the threat, which was written by Gene Sperling. In context - the email is, in part, an apology - it doesn't seem very threatening. Here is the text:
From Gene Sperling to Bob Woodward on Feb. 22, 2013 Bob: I apologize for raising my voice in our conversation today. My bad. I do understand your problems with a couple of our statements in the fall - but feel on the other hand that you focus on a few specific trees that gives a very wrong perception of the forest. But perhaps we will just not see eye to eye here. But I do truly believe you should rethink your comment about saying saying that Potus asking for revenues is moving the goal post. I know you may not believe this, but as a friend, I think you will regret staking out that claim. The idea that the sequester was to force both sides to go back to try at a big or grand barain with a mix of entitlements and revenues (even if there were serious disagreements on composition) was part of the DNA of the thing from the start. It was an accepted part of the understanding - from the start. Really. It was assumed by the Rs on the Supercommittee that came right after: it was assumed in the November-December 2012 negotiations. There may have been big disagreements over rates and ratios - but that it was supposed to be replaced by entitlements and revenues of some form is not controversial. (Indeed, the discretionary savings amount from the Boehner-Obama negotiations were locked in in BCA: the sequester was just designed to force all back to table on entitlements and revenues.) I agree there are more than one side to our first disagreement, but again think this latter issue is diffferent. Not out to argue and argue on this latter point. Just my sincere advice. Your call obviously. My apologies again for raising my voice on the call with you. Feel bad about that and truly apologize.
If Woodward considered Sperling's "I think you'll regret" remark out-of-line, he didn't say so in his response:
Gene: You do not ever have to apologize to me. You get wound up because you are making your points and you believe them. This is all part of a serious discussion. I for one welcome a little heat; there should more given the importance. I also welcome your personal advice. I am listening. I know you lived all this. My partial advantage is that I talked extensively with all involved. I am traveling and will try to reach you after 3 pm today. Best, Bob
But Woodward's response does seem to understand Sperling to be offering "personal advice" through the "regret" remark. So maybe he did construe it as something of a threat rather than just a way of saying that Woodward, as a professional, would regret offering commentary that is wide of the mark.
There is, to be sure, a thuggish quality to the Obama administration's dealings with the press. It is manifested most acutely in dealings with Fox News. And, needless to say, Woodward's sense of what a source is communicating to him deserves more weight than my reading of the same words.
Still, it seems to me that Woodward overreacted to this particular email. I'm sure that's what I would be arguing if a Republican big-wig had written the same email to Woodward.
Whatever the case, though, there's no denying that Woodward once again is front-and-center in a major controversy.

New Car Cost Out of Reach for Most Of Americans............
To heck with keeping up with the Jones. This simple act will make a huge difference in your finances. Who cares what the Jones think? It's YOUR budget and your future - are you going to sacrifice it for someone else's opinion? Americans need to wake up and smell the budget. I had to talk my wife about a new car. She wants an SUV because we have so many kids. The truck we have seems to be working fine but it is not big enough. I told her we're keeping the truck for now and we'll just have to suck it up because another vehicle is not in our budget. I don't need to impress anyone and it's not worth the cash if it will put you in a financial bind.
According to the 2013 Car Affordability Study by Interest.com, only in Washington could the typical household swing the payments, the median income there running $86,680 a year. At the other extreme, Tampa, Fla., was at the bottom of the 25 large cities included in the study, with a median household income of $43,832. The study looked at a variety of household expenses, such as food and housing, and when it comes to purchasing a new vehicle, it considered more than just the basic purchase price, down payment and monthly note, factoring in such essentials as taxes and insurance.
Check out the prices dealers charge for used cars these days. A five year old used car is just a couple of thousand cheaper than the same model new car. Used cars are very, very pricey these days.
If the typical new car costs $30,550, with an average monthly payment of $550, the five cities most able to meet - or come close - are:

Why Medicaid Expansion Is Still Wrong for the States
Governor John Kasich now joins the list of governors that are looking to expand their Medicaid programs. In some instances, the logic of such a decision makes sense. Democratic governors have traditionally supported expanding the role of Medicaid. But the decision by Republican governors, such as Governor Jan Brewer (Ariz.), Governor Jack Dalrymple (N.D.), Governor Susana Martinez (N.M.), Governor Brian Sandoval (R., Nev.), and now Governor John Kasich (R., Ohio), is puzzling.
Like most government programs, Medicaid promises more than it delivers. While it consumes an ever increasing portion of state budgets - crowding out other state priorities, such as education and transportation - its track record for delivering quality health care to those in need falls short. Endorsing the expansion ignores these underlying problems and in some instances seems to make them worse.
Of these five Republican governors, four joined the lawsuit against the Obama administration regarding the coercive nature of the Medicaid expansion. It is troubling that now that the Medicaid expansion has been deemed voluntary not mandatory by the Supreme Court, these governors are perfectly happy to have the federal government coerce them into the expansion with the enticement of new federal dollars.
Second, many of these governors argue that the Medicaid expansion is actually good fiscal policy. These governors may be looking at a short-term bump in new federal dollars, but the longer view shows that over time this new revenue disappears and the cost of expansion continues to rise. A recent study in support of the expansion in Ohio supports this conclusion. There are also many underlying assumptions that raise further questions related to the true cost of the expansion. The illegitimate Obama Labor Board is STILL defiantly operating business-as-usual one month after a federal court ruled Obama's "recess" appointments were unconstitutional. That's why earlier this month National Right to Work Foundation staff attorneys asked the same court to enforce its ruling and make the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) cease and desist. And now the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit has ordered the NLRB to respond. You see, the Obama Labor Board is scheming to gut a longstanding Foundation-won U.S. Supreme Court precedent that prevents union bosses from forcing independent-minded workers to financially support Big Labor's radical political agenda. Worse, they're trying to do it even though Barack Obama violated the Constitution by installing three Board members as "recess" appointees while Congress was still in session. But this case is just the start. Foundation staff attorney John Raudabaugh calculates that over 1,400 NLRB decisions could be voided because of Obama's unconstitutional power grab. As you know, this is a big deal because the Obama Labor Board has dedicated itself to rewriting American labor law and stacking the deck for union bosses every chance it can. That's why I expect the Obama Administration and their Big Labor benefactors to fight tooth-and-nail, probably all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. We're in it for the long haul, thanks to the generosity of supporters like you. Our country's constitutional balance is in jeopardy. Thank you for helping us fight back. Sincerely, Mark Mix P.S.
