Hagel Confirmed by Senate Vote: Will Lead the Defense Department (Yes, Rand Paul Voted in Favor)
See Roll Call Votes Below...
(Photo: J. Scott Applewhite, AP)
Story Highlights
-
Hagel received little Republican backing
-
Chuck Hagel will succeed Leon Panetta
-
He will inherit Pentagon facing impending spending cuts
WASHINGTON - The Senate voted 58-41 Tuesday to confirm Chuck Hagel as the new Defense secretary to succeed Leon Panetta, thus ending a contentious battle over his nomination. Senators voted 71-27 earlier Tuesday afternoon to end debate on President Obama's nomination of Hagel, a Republican former senator from Nebraska. Hagel will immediately inherit a budget crisis. Last week, the Pentagon announced it plans to furlough the majority of its 800,000 civilian employees to help meet a $46 billion shortfall caused by automatic spending cuts that begin March 1 and its stopgap budget that prevents shifting funds to urgent needs. The contentious nomination process will not prevent Hagel from dealing with Congress, George Little, a Pentagon spokesman, said after the vote. Hagel is a "team player" whose interest in cooperation will extend to Congress, Little said. Hagel has been briefed on issues facing the Pentagon and will be ready to start work immediately, Little said.

BIG BROTHER?
US Linked to Censorship, Surveillance on Internet
FoxNews.com | By John R. Quain | Published February 27, 2013
Even the most open, democratic governments have sought laws and new forms of surveillance that many see as a new wave of censorship -- and that includes the United States. The U.S. government asked Google for data on its users more than 31,000 times in 2012 alone, for example. And the government rarely obtained a search warrant first, Google recently revealed; in nearly all cases, the company ended up turning over at least some data. Some argue that heightened surveillance, restrictions on Internet freedom and even censorship are necessary to protect intellectual property rights, prevent cyberespionage, fight child pornography, and protect national interests such as nuclear power plants from hackers. And here the U.S. is far from alone. "A number of democratic states have considered or implemented various restrictions in response to the potential legal, economic, and security challenges raised by new media," notes the Freedom House report "Freedom on the Net 2012." Anxiety over online theft and cyberattacks is not unwarranted. Virtually every major U.S. company and media outlet has been a victim. Google was attacked back in 2009. Facebook, Apple and Microsoft revealed this month that hackers had breeched their defenses. And The New York Times and Wall Street Journal have fought off Chinese hackers for months. Indeed, dozens of countries have their own online hacking groups -- so-called cyber or asymmetrical warfare divisions.

Metcalfe Seeks to Make Federal Gun-Grabbing A Criminal Offense in Pennsylvania
|
HARRISBURG - State Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) today announced his legislation that would make any new federal gun control laws unenforceable within the Commonwealth.
"Passage of my legislation will send the message that there will never be additional gun control, anywhere in Pennsylvania," said Metcalfe. "Whether by White House executive orders, congressional fiat, or judicial activism, we will never allow the left to benefit from the wicked acts of murderers in order advance their senseless gun-grabbing agenda which would only succeed in replacing one of our most sacred personal liberties with the chains of government tyranny."
Similar to legislation most recently introduced in Wyoming and Texas, Metcalfe's Right to Bear Arms Protection Act (House Bill 357) would:
- Prohibit enforcement of any new federal registration, restriction or prohibition requirement for privately owned firearms, magazines and ammunition.
- Require the state of Pennsylvania, including the Office of Attorney General, to intercede on behalf of Commonwealth citizens against any federal attempt to register, restrict or ban the purchase or ownership of firearms and firearms accessories which are currently legal products.
Final enactment of Metcalfe's Right to Bear Arms Protection Act would mean that anyone - even federal agents - who try to enforce any type of gun control restriction within state borders would face arrest and being charged with a felony offense.
"The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned," said Metcalfe. "Article 1, Section 21 of the Pennsylvania Constitution makes it crystal clear that no level of government, especially the federal government, has any authority whatsoever to impose senseless restrictions on law-abiding firearms owners, or worse, the confiscation of legally owned firearms. The purpose of my legislation is to force any gun-grabbing federal official to count the costs of unconstitutionally disarming or denying Pennsylvania citizens their God-given right to keep and bear arms."
Metcalfe is also calling on all Pennsylvania citizens who support Constitutional liberty to attend Pennsylvania's annual Second Amendment Action Day on Tuesday, April 23, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the State Capitol Rotunda, and to sign the all-new Armed Pennsylvania: Say to No Gun Control petition by visiting RepMetcalfe.com.

February 26, 2013, 6 PM
Dear Members and Friends,
Over the Weekend, we had the good fortune of attending two winning events--Dom Giordano's Saturday workout and Pennsylvanians for Human Life Annual Respect Life Dinner.
After Saturday's workout, Samantha Pawlucy, the student who was degraded, scorned, and threatened for wearing a Romney for President T-shirt to her local public school, was the winner of the IPOD drawing. Congratulations, Samantha!
Former State Representative Stephen Freind, whose Abortion Control Act came within one US Supreme Court vote of overturning the disastrous 1973 court ruling known as Roe v, Wade was the guest of honor at the dinner. His talk was poignant, funny, and heart felt as he paid tribute to his recent deceased wife, Judy Freind.
In other matters, as the US Congress returns from its recess, we are called to be vigilant in protecting our First and Second Amendment rights and our national economy!
We wish to call your attention to four matters of significance. Three require you to contact your legislators by calling the Capitol Switchboard at 202.224.3121 or visiting http://independencehallteaparty.com/?_page_=81 for direct numbers, faxes, and email addresses.
1. Sadly, Chuck Hagel was confirmed by the US Senate, today, to become Secretary of Defense. By any measure, we put up a good fight--initiating a very rare filibuster against a presidential appointment for a major cabinet post.
In the end, weak-kneed Republicans, led by Senator John McCain, held sway by voting to end the filibuster. We wish to thank the Republican Jewish Coalition for their heroic leadership in trying to defeat this dangerous nomination.
In our February survey, over 90% of you agreed that Chuck Hagel should not be confirmed.
February 2013 T-Survey Results
2. The Association has joined the Susan B. Anthony List and 45 other organizations in a Call2Action campaign.
Call2Action's goal is simple: Mobilize as many Americans as possible to contact Congress this week and demand that conscience & religious liberty protections be included in upcoming legislation.
This is a First Amendment issue that has nothing to do with limiting access to contraception--as the left would have you believe.
You can send your Representative an e-mail through the Coalition Action Center at http://www.call2conscience.com/.
Or, if you wish to call your Representative, visit http://www.call2conscience.com/?page_id=7 for talking points and direct phone numbers.
3. As Sequestration approaches, President Obama is spinning the issue out of control. By over a 2-1 margin (again, February survey), you had no problem accepting the 'dire' ramifications predicted by the White House.
Call your Congressman/woman @ 202.224.3121 and tell them to stand firmly behind these across-the-board, non-discretionary spending cuts.
4. The Senate Judiciary Committee is poised to vote on the following four
anti-gun rights bills: The Assault Weapons Ban of 2013 (Feinstein), the Stop Illegal Trafficking in Firearms Act of 2013 (Leahy), the Protecting Responsible Gun Sellers Act of 2013 (Schumer), and the School Safety Enhancements Act of 2013 (Boxer).
Please call your US Senators at 202.224.3121 and tell them to vote against this unconstitutional legislation.
Finally, on Friday (February 22), the never-ending Obama Campaign held a National Day of Action to Reduce Gun Violence.
About 25 professional protestors staged a demonstration outside Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick's office in Langhorne.
Demonstrations were held at other Republican Congressional offices throughout the region.
There's no doubt about it, the Democrats are focused on winning back the House in 2014.
We will not let that happen!

Hello Patriots on this Day!
We need to make daily calls to Washington to stop infringement on our 2nd Amendment rights!!

Rep. Bob Brady 610-874-7094
Important Dates:
- February 15 - March 27, 2013 - Debt Ceiling: Sometime in this date range we are expected to reach the debt ceiling (Technically we have already hit the debt ceiling, but this is the date range when we will reach a point where the Treasury can no longer implement "extraordinary measures" to meet our spending obligations.
- February 28, 2013 - Sequestration: The "fiscal cliff" bill created a new manufactured crisis that will happen sometime at the end of February. This is when the sequestration can was kicked down the road.
- March 31, 2013 - Continuing Resolution: The current Continuing Resolution that the government is operating under expires on March 31. This means that they will have to pass a CR between now and then.
- April 15, 2013 - Budget Resolution: This is the date by law in which both Houses should have a budget resolution passed. We are already hearing that the President is late in submitting his budget, the House is reporting that they will not meet their deadline for a budget, and the Senate... well they haven't passed a budget in over 1,350 days.
Any questions, holler.

Dear Patriots:
Our next meeting of the Philadelphia Tea Party Patriots-Lower Bucks will be March 6, 2013 at 7 PM. PLEASE NOTE; THIS MEETING IS ON A WEDNESDAY!! The meeting will take place at Erwin's Country Kitchen, 4059 Brownsville Road in Trevose.
We're looking to increase our group! Join us...bring a friend or two.
An invitation has gone out to Concerned Gun Owners of Bucks County to speak at our meeting. The 2nd Amendment must be a concern of all law-abiding citizens. We CANNOT let the opposition infringe upon our God given rights.
Mike Henry was hired as the Philadelphia Regional Coordinator for Heritage Action. Mike will be speaking to our group at the meeting. He joined Heritage Action after successfully running a local outreach campaign as an intern for American Majority Action in southeastern Pennsylvania. During the campaign, he worked closely with local tea party groups to organize their canvassing efforts. He is an alumnus of Archmere Academy, in Claymont, Delaware, and will be a 2013 graduate from Pennsylvania State University. Heritage Action is the Pennsylvania think tank of Heritage Foundation which is being led by former Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC).
We have persons within our group who give a short summary of what is happening in their community.
What are the hot issues in Harrisburg? How do you feel about Governor Corbett's budget? liquor privatization? Agenda 21?
Why is Penn State on the New Drone Authorization List? Who is funding these drones?
How do you feel about Immigration? the "No Labels" group in Congress? and lots more discussion.

We would like to clarifiy the Prothonotary candidates for the upcoming Republican Primary are Michelle Christian (not Diane) and Pat Bachtle. It does not change a call for an open primary in this race.
Why all the fuss about a Prothonotary race?
If you have wondered what a Prothonotary is, you are not alone. In addition, whoever thought that it would be the focus of a power struggle within the Bucks County GOP for the 2013 elections?
There are two people running for Prothonotary this May. Pat Bachtle a long time incumbent and a newcomer Diane Christian. On paper this looks ok, but when you take a closer look, more questions than answers arise.
The Tea Party should be happy to see a newcomer on the ticket. Right?
We should be happy to see the incumbent challenged by a newcomer. Right? Except this newcomer was hand selected by Bucks County GOP Chairwoman Pat Poprik.
Do you remember the countless "newcomers" who have tried to run for office in the past few years? They were handily dismissed by the party leadership and told that positions only go to those who have worked hard for the party over several years. Pat Bachtle is the incumbent Prothonotary and has worked for the party for many years. Now Pat Poprik is embracing a newcomer that she has hand selected with no prior experience or record. There is clearly a double standard.
One does not have to think too hard to figure out what the reaction would be to an unknown Tea Party candidate running against an established incumbent. Remember when the GOP called the Constables to intervene against non-endorsed GOP candidates in 2010?
Why is the party chair deciding to pick this fight when Bucks County is becoming more liberal? This has the potential to leave the seat wide open for a Democrat grab. Bucks County GOP money should not be spent in a primary for a Prothonotary seat. This is foolish and wasteful use of resources.
We at The Kitchen Table Patriots
are calling for an Unendorsed Primary. Let the best candidate win. The registered Republicans of Bucks County should decide on primary election day who should be the next Prothonotary on the Republican ticket. Not a small group of GOP County Executives, half of which were appointed by the Chair of the Party. It doesn't seem like a fair process does it.
If you are a registered Republican and live in Bucks County Pennsylvania we are urging you to contact your local committee person and ask them to vote for no endorsement. If you do not know who you committee person is than call the Bucks County Republican Headquarters at 215-345-8811
Also We urge you to clear your calendar and attend the Bucks County GOP executive committee meeting on Thursday March 7 at PM. at the Republican Headquarters in Doylestown. The is the night that the executive committee, half of which were hand picked by the county chair will endorse. Come and speak your mind to your elected Executive. Let the Republican party know you are watching and paying attention.

IMPORTANT MEETING - MUST ATTEND!! LET YOUR VOICES BE HEARD. Dear Patriots, Please plan on attending this meeting on February 28, 2013. There is a proposed bike trail in several different areas of Chester County costing a wopping 45 million dollars for the project. Whether you live in these areas or not, we need everyone to attend this and speak up. As you know, our county taxes have gone up this year and with this proposed plan, I am sure they will be going up even higher. Question: How many miles of trails and pedestrian walkways do we already have and what is the utilization? Where is the money going to come from to pay for these new trails? Who is pushing for this and why? You may think that your voice does not count. Word of encouragement. It does. Last night, there was a meeting in Oxford boro where the boro was pushing through some gun restrictions (magazines, etc). A group of concerned citizens (between 100 - 200 people) spoke up and the motion was not passed. I believe in order to fight what is going on, we need to come out in masses. Also, another encouraging word, a smartmeter man came up to one of our fellow patriots to install a smart meter. Fortunately the person was home and explained to him why he did not want a smart meter (equipment he had in his house would be affected). After talking with the gentlemen installing the smart meter, and him taking notes, the man left without installing the smart meter. Now I am sure this is not the end of it, but everyone can make a difference. Pass this email on to everyone you know and please I urge you to attend this meeting. The liberals will be there so we need to be there will double the amount of people. Thank you. Click on the visit our website link below for the meeting announcement. Important Announcement from SFL
|
You're probably wondering why you've been getting more emails from me and Sustainable Freedom Lab after having had next to none for quite some time.
Well, the truth is that I've been very busy. As always, I spend enormous amounts of my time researching, writing, and speaking to the public about the threats of Agenda 21 and Regionalism.
I've also been working on important projects behind the scenes.
Now I'm finally ready to reveal the first of these "secret" projects: The DVD version of "Stopping Agenda 21 in Your Community".
Like the title suggests, this DVD program offers step-by-step training on how you can fight back against those who would bring Agenda 21 into your community. The test audience who saw this program during the limited streaming we held last Fall felt it was critical viewing for anyone concerned about the erosion of our property rights.
Click here to read my blog post on the SFL website about our first DVD.

If you've been wanting an interesting, clearly written, how-to-manual for identifying and fighting UN Agenda 21, here it is. Agenda 21--All the information you need to understand what is happening in your town, why it's happening, who is behind it, and what you can do to stop it. BEHIND THE GREEN MASK: U.N. Agenda 21 is 172 pages of truth. Part history, part current events, part hand-to-hand combat, and part blueprint for keeping your freedom, this is one book that you'll put to work immediately. Boots on the ground and all hands on deck is the order of the day. Awareness is the first step in the Resistance.
|
Awareness about Agenda 21 is finally spreading throughout the country, due in no small part to your efforts. But knowing it is there isn't enough. Now we need to educate ourselves on how to combat it. That's where you come in.
American Policy Center has recently released a booklet that explains everything you need to know to start fighting back against sustainable programs both locally and nationally. The booklet is called Special Report: Agenda 21 and How to Stop It and is available in the APC store for only $5.95.
I wrote this 35 page booklet in order to give activists a succinct resource they can refer to if they suspect Agenda 21 or Sustainable Development is being implemented in their area. It includes my own research coupled with incredibly helpful graphics created by Carroll County, Maryland Commissioner Richard Rothschild.
In the booklet you will find answers to several roadblocks that grassroots anti-Agenda 21 activists often face, including a definition of property rights and "Resolution to Protect Citizens' Property Rights," which many concerned citizens are already using to tie the hands of power hungry politicians.
This booklet is a great resource for anyone interested in preserving their property rights. It includes all the information to put up a first line of defense and step by step instructions for how to proceed from there. If you face Agenda 21 or Sustainable development in your area or are simply concerned with the national fight this booklet is a must read.
Click here to order your booklet now!
In Liberty,

Tom DeWeese President - American Policy Center
P.S. - The American Policy Center store has recently updated our inventory to include everything you need to fight back against Agenda 21. The store also offers DVDs of past successful conferences and symposiums, books and articles that deal with the issues of sustainability and Agenda 21 and individually packaged manuals and workbooks to aid you in your activism. How to Raise an American Patriot: Making it Okay for Our Kids to Be Proud to Be American
|
Parents are the number one people to teach this to their kids.
This historic book will give parents the talking points they need to teach their kids why it's good to love our country and understand why it's so important to fight for our freedom and their rights.
We will lay the foundation for our next "greatest" generation. I interviewed 13 American patriots, all with different backgrounds and upbringings - several you have heard of and several you haven't heard of but you should.
- Ed Meese, former Attorney General and staff member under President Reagan.

Has Communist Ideology Overtaken America? Education is crucial. Today I want to share two very interesting lists with you, and rather than adding an extensive amount of my commentary, I want to give you the chance to examine the facts for yourself. It is my opinion that many communist goals have already been accomplished. I also believe that advancement has been made in other areas. But, you owe it to yourself to do your own research. I believe not only in the freedom of speech, but also in the responsibility of free thought. So please don't take my word for it. Examine the facts for yourself.
Again, I want to share two lists with you. The first is a list that was entered into 1963 Congressional Record. The second is the 10 planks of The Communist Manifesto.
If you can't see this happening in America, and a ton of progress being made, then I offer two potential explanations:
- You are one of the "useful idiots" of communist teaching.
- I am one of the "village idiots" that your Mama probably warned you about.
Some of these points will be open for debate and some will not. In some cases it is blatantly obvious that they have achieved their goals. It is even rumored that our own President has deep communist ties. You might want to check that out as well but I will withhold my opinion at this point. Let's just lay it out and you can interpret it.
This list was originally printed in "The Naked Communist" by Cleon Skousen. It was entered into Congressional Record in 1963 as the 45 goals of "The Communist Takeover of America."

Individuals sympathetic to the Muslim Brotherhood's sinister agenda have infiltrated the Obama Administration.
Brainwashed by the Muslim Students Association and then propelled in to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the David Horowitz Freedom Center tracks the path of Huma Abedin and other Muslim sympathizers who have navigated their way into positions of great influence in the Obama Administration. Everything is revealed in the explosive new Freedom Center pamphlet, "The Muslim Brotherhood in the Obama Administration," written by Frank Gaffney, national security expert who served as Assistant Secretary of Defense under Ronald Reagan.
The David Horowitz Freedom Center is committed to educating the public on the Muslim Brotherhood's sinister Agenda. That is why we are giving away this pamphlet for FREE.

Sequestration... Spending cuts must occur While President Obama continues his sequestration fear mongering campaign, it's important to keep in mind that the sequester was the brainchild of the Obama White House, and has been law for a year and a half. The House has worked tirelessly during that time to present specified targeted cuts as alternatives to the sequester. The Senate and President have refused to act on the House-passed bills, or to offer any credible alternatives. It's time for the president to stop campaigning and get to work fixing America's spending problem. American household income has fallen nearly nine percent since President Obama took office. But the president is claiming that Washington can't cope with a 2.4 percent cut in spending? Time's up. Washington needs to get spending under control. This is the week that Washington finally stops stealing from our children and grandchildren, and takes the first step toward fiscal responsibility.
The PA Coalition for Responsible Government supports significant spending cuts and the only way we see to do this in the near term is to let the sequestration to occur. It is only the first step in getting our fiscal house in order, but a needed first step.

RedState Morning Briefing
For February 2, 2013
Once in a blue moon I feel the need to devote the Morning Briefing to one thing and one thing only and put the whole thing in the email so you have no excuse but to read the whole thing. Today is one of those days.
Don't miss this good post from Congressman Tom Graves and don't miss this post from me pointing out that conservatives in Congress are the biggest problem the conservative movement is dealing with.
But please devote your attention to the content below, which I am also making the lead story at RedState today.
UPDATE: Let me add up top an update out of the gate. The issue here is not RedState, but a larger issue among conservatives as we keep growing new and expanding existing outlets for reporting the news. With our jobs board up (if you haven't noticed), I want to help put solid conservatives in reportorial positions throughout the movement. Now is the time to stop lamenting conservative reporters not having access to the media and instead now is the time to start running a deeper pool of interest and start getting people involved who don't want to be the investigative "stick it to the other guy" reporters, but the basic who, what, where, when, why, and how reporters.
--------
W5 + H = A Baseline for Integrity: Conservatives Need to Rethink Basic Reporting It is not my intention to criticize colleagues, friends, or those others might perceive as competitors though who are more honestly characterized as collaborators in the noble fight for freedom. Many on the right do hard work and great work uncovering stories the mainstream media ignores or fails to follow up on. But I have had a nagging sense for a while that something is wrong. At the same time, I did not want to say anything on this front, when so many are doing work RedState has not committed itself to doing full time, because it would seem I was criticizing without offering a solution. I think conservative media is failing to advance ideas and stories. Certainly part of that is because the general media has an ideological bias against conservatives, which makes it harder for the media to take our views seriously. But many conservatives are, instead of working doubly hard to overcome that bias, just yelling louder about the same things. The echo in the chamber has gotten so loud it is not well understood outside the echo chamber in the mainstream press and in the public. It translates only as anger and noise, neither of which are conducive to the art of persuasion. Conservatives are trying so hard to highlight controversies, no matter how trivial, we have forgotten the basics of reporting: W5 + H as I learned in grade school, also known as who, what, where, when, why, and how. I think conservatives need to reset some of their reportorial resources to tell the stories that need to be told by focusing on the facts at hand in a world view of the right. We need to establish a baseline for integrity in reporting that then allows us to highlight the truly outrageous. That baseline must be the basics of who, what, where, when, why, and how and it must be set before taking the next step into analysis of motivation and its implications.
The "Obamaphone" is a great example of this. Conservatives laughed out loud at the video of the lady saying Barack Obama had given her a phone. Conservatives used it as an example of all that was wrong with the expansion of the welfare state under Barack Obama. What many conservatives missed was that the program was a pre-existing program. In fact, the "Obamaphone" idea goes back to the Reagan Administration, but the present program was implemented in 2008 when George W. Bush was President. Government funds are not even used directly. Focus on the Obamaphone by conservatives missed a number of key points and, in not covering the basic facts, sent conservative activists down rabbit holes. It would have been helpful if conservative reporters spent more time laying out the basic who, what, where, when, why, and how of the issue before exploring the necessity of the program and the fact that there are Americans who credit Barack Obama with giving them that phone. Conservatives went to the critique in some cases before fully understanding the program. This happens on both sides of the aisle, but conservatives have to be better informed and more versed in the facts because the media already leans left and gives more latitude to the left. Just as troubling, there are some conservative reporters out there who aim for the basic facts, but get stuck on talking points. Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, myself, and others have been lamenting a lot of conservative reporters for this very reason. These reporters seem to covet access to the Speaker, Senate Minority Leader, and Leadership. They report on the Republican leadership's side without question and turn conservatives in Congress into the butt of jokes. On more than one occasion I've seen conservatives treat the GOP Leadership skeptically until a friend is hired by Leadership. Suddenly, the agnostic reporter becomes a believer and often uses his perch to undermine conservatives in Congress on behalf of leadership. Everyone should be questioned and friendship with the Speaker's and Leader's staffs should not be a goal. More often than not these days, conservatives are being undercut by their own leadership in Congress and not the Democrats. A conservative press that caters to the talking points of the leadership is helping undercut the conservative agenda. There are scandals to uncover and there are outrageous stories to be outraged over, but I would submit conservatives are spending a lot more time trying to find things to be outraged over than reporting the news and basic facts online from a conservative perspective. In my ideal world, RedState would have a couple of reporters to focus on the basics and the depth. I would like to see a reporter or two focusing on the W5+H of Capitol Hill and the White House with another who can go beyond the basics and provide the analysis of how those facts will impact conservatives, where conservatives stand, and how the ultimate policies and politics in play will affect the country. I just do not see the need to get outraged over things without first having all the facts at hand. Further, I do not see the need to get outraged over everything, when better targeting of stories that truly resonate would serve conservatives well. We do our cause more harm than good if we get outrageously outraged over every slight and grievance. Yes there is an institutional media bias against the right, but we must also honestly acknowledge that conservatives have screamed "Wolf" these past few years more often than there was one. Conservatives must start telling stories, not just producing white papers and peddling daily outrage. The stories we choose to tell should have all the information we need to be informed of facts and paint a picture of those facts' impact. RedState has a very simple mission statement: educate conservative activists, motivate them to engage, and provide tools for easy activation and empowerment. Along the way, we try to be a compass to the conservative movement, pointing to the truth north of conservatism and letting policy makers and legislators decide how far from that truth north they must deviate. Educating conservatives is a critical component of our mission. We have never viewed RedState as a site engaged in reporting, but as a site engaged in activism. Though occasionally we do break news, it has not been central to our existence. But, an honest accounting of facts and news is important and mission critical. Consequently, I would like to hire some reporters who can help educate conservative activists - who will not be focused on the outrage du jour, but focused on the daily grind of Washington and how the sausage being ground out in Washington will affect the conservative movement and the nation. Over time, I would like to expand this to covering governmental sausage making in the states too. Other sites are doing great work uncovering scandals and highlighting outrageous antics. I want RedState's focus to be the daily news that should direct the focus of the conservative movement and then take the next step of uncovering how both Democrats and squishy Republicans are abusing the trust of the American people. I want to focus on why conservatives view their strategy at superior to Republican leaders when the two conflict and put a spotlight on efforts to either merge or separate conservatives from the establishment. If you are interested in being a part of this, send your resume to reporting@redstate.com. You'll need to live in Washington. You'll need to be self-directed. You'll need to be pro-life. We're going to start doing things right - here, and now. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

RJC Responds to Hagel Confirmation:
Hagel Choice Sends Wrong Message to
Our Allies and Adversaries
Washington, D.C. (February 26, 2013) -- The Republican Jewish Coalition released the following statement about today's Senate vote on the nomination of Chuck Hagel to be secretary of defense:
We are disappointed that Chuck Hagel's nomination won confirmation from the Senate. Respecting the President's prerogative to name his Cabinet members does not outweigh the Senate's duty to examine nominees and withhold consent from someone who is not qualified for the office.
Chuck Hagel's statements on Israel and the "Jewish lobby" raised serious concerns about his fitness to serve. His views on Iran are also deeply troubling. Hagel's appearance before the Senate Armed Services Committee showed that he lacks an understanding of the issues facing our defense forces and national security leaders. And he does not have the experience in running a large and complex organization that would make him an effective secretary of defense.
RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks said, "Sadly, we continue to believe that the choice of Chuck Hagel for this post sends the wrong message to the American people, our allies, and our adversaries."

Farrakhan said blacks should rely on themselves...........
Patriot Action Alerts | Posted by Michael CHILDS | February 26, 2013 at 10:49am
The Minister Louis Farrakhan, 79, delivered his annual Saviors' Day sermon on Sunday. As is usually the case, the three-hour address covered a variety of topics ranging from current events to the faith leader's contentious views on race relations. Of particular note was an economic plan he posited - one in which African Americans would come together to invest in land - and a pledge to reach out to gang leaders to ask them for assistance in protecting the Nation of Islam's interests. Read More:
Farrakhan would do well to figure out that there is no honor among thieves.
Gangs are not motivated by patriotism, bettering their communities.... They are criminals that sell drugs, rob, steal....
You can not make chicken salad from chicken poop. Having gangs guard anything is like putting the fox in charge of the hen house security detail.
Meanwhile whites are told to be loving and weak.
Farrakhan, the hate filled racist, can buy Detroit land for a song. Protect your land gang man, just pay your taxes to your self. Sharpton, Jackson and Jr. and Farrakhan have you paid your taxes lately?
So he preaches self reliance? So I guess that none of his members receive public assistance right? Is he advocating for separatism? Isn't that racist? Oh yeah hes black and Muslim - he's good.

Newly Elected Japanese Prime Minister Visits the White House By Kumi Yokoe, Ph.D.
On Friday, President Obama welcomed recently elected Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe to the White House. Abe is the first major foreign dignitary to visit Mr. Obama in his second term - but it is not his first trip to the Oval Office. In April of 2007, during the first of Abe's two non-contiguous terms in office, he called on President George W. Bush. When he arrived in D.C. in 2007, Abe surprised observers back home by the simple act of walking from the plane hand-in-hand with First Lady Akie. That made something of a splash in historically male-dominated Japan, where politicians' wives are typically expected to step back and "behave," as it were. But that simple act spoke volumes about Abe and revealed traits that are often overlooked in the American press. With amazing consistency, U.S. media have portrayed Abe as a fringe character - typically, as a "hawk" unsuited to pacifist Japan. Yet this supposedly "out-of-step" politician won an electoral landslide in December and enjoys a 71 percent approval rating today.

Conservatives Must Woo Millennials
The New York Times has discovered a new brand of politically active millennials: "highly entrepreneurial," socially liberal twenty-somethings from the "funky" town of Missoula, Montana. Liberals see this demographic as yet another opportunity to sell big government programs. Should conservatives surrender this demographic? Or can the limited government argument appeal to millennials?

Calvin Coolidge: Forefather of Our Conservatism
Calvin Coolidge is perhaps the most underrated President. Remembered as "Silent Cal," the nickname is woefully inadequate for the President who loved foreign languages, gave regular radio addresses, and was one of the most eloquent defenders of America's principles. Thanks to Amity Shlaes's new biography, many are rediscovering Coolidge, the fiscal hawk. More than a legacy of budget cutting, Coolidge is the intellectual and political forefather of modern American conservatism.

Hollywood has no problem being dumb, sleazy and violent. Those are all known and marketable qualities. What it does not look is appearing desperate. Desperation however is what the Oscars of this year and last year have in common. They stink of an industry desperately racing its own age and irrelevance reaching for gimmicks to try and hang on to a younger audience. The dirty little secret is that Hollywood hardly exists anymore. The industry is bigger than ever, but its bread and butter consists of 200 and 300 million dollar special effects festivals filmed in front of green screens and created in Photoshop and three-dimensional graphics programs. They star obscure or mildly famous actors and they do two-thirds of their business abroad. America is still the official headquarters of the global entertainment industry, but many of the bigger projects are filmed internationally with foreign money and intended for foreign markets. What the American corporations bring to the table is the intellectual property which is why the latest spasm of mergers and buyouts has focused on taking control of every treasury of classic marketable properties. Disney has put Star Wars, Mickey and Marvel Comics under one roof. It's impressive from a business standpoint, but bankrupt from a creative standpoint. Old Americana is being milked dry for the sake of turning out another disposable movie starring familiar characters. The movies are actually still the same.

The "Poor Bob" Menendez scandal just won't go away
Feb 26, 2013 05:13 am | Coach Collins
By Kevin "Coach" Collins
When minority Democrats are caught in a corruption net they can't slip out of they will usually play the race card. "Oh woe is me, here I am a poor brown skinned boy (or girl) from the bad side of town trying to pull myself up by the bootstraps and the evil racist right wing is lying about me trying to keep me down," or something close, can be heard as a panicky, knee jerk response to being caught having committed a crime. It can often signal that the final act of the drama is not far off.
Democrat Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey is one of these "poor, put-upon minorities."
The evil right wingers just can't let go of allegations that poor Bob got paid off by a rich Miami eye doctor to insure that life became very good for him. What poor Bob accepted in return for selling out ... Continue Reading:The "Poor Bob" Menendez scandal just won't go away

Almost daily we witness things that make no sense. Here are a few examples, from the profound to the trivial.
Something new is happening in Syria. Two reports state that the Free Syrian Army, which was formed fairly early in the revolt against Assad's regime, is now getting some very good weapons. This accounts for its recent military successes, bringing it inside the Damascus gates. Is this, at long last, an American operation? | | TOP STORIES ON PJ MEDIA |
Rep. John Carter (R-Texas) just introduced yet again legislation to ensure that the victims and victims' families in the Fort Hood attack are eligible for the same treatment, benefits, and honors as Americans killed or wounded in an overseas combat zone.
America's muddle in Afghanistan is not merely an unwise policy. Two prominent American authors -- one a serious analyst, the other a bestselling novelist -- worry that it is an affront to American manhood as well. | | MORE FROM PJ MEDIA |

Alabama Republicans Demand Shelby Retract Support of Hagel |
|
by Breitbart News
On Monday, the Steering Committee of the Alabama Republican Party passed a resolution demanding that Sen. Richard Shelby retract his support of former Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) to be Secretary of Defense, according to a report in the American Spectator. The highly unusual step reflects growing concern among the Republican grassroots about Hagel's positions on a variety of foreign policy issues, including Israel, the Spectator reports.
Shelby revealed last week that he intended to vote for Hagel. The announcement was treated by the media as a surprise, as it appeared to break Republican unity against Hagel. However, Shelby has supported a number of Hagel's controversial stances over the years. In 2007, for example, he joined Hagel in refusing to sign a letter to then-Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice asking her to encourage "friendly" Arab states to recognize Israel.

Tuesday, February 26, 2013 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer Obama's Sequester Cynicism In yesterday's report I warned that in spite of the sequester's miniscule size compared to the overall federal budget, Barack Obama is determined to make the cuts as painful as possible. But don't take my word for it. Over the weekend, the Washington Post ran a story headlined, "The Big Sequester Gamble: How Badly Will The Cuts Hurt?" The article argued that defenders of Big Government need the sequester to be painful in order to convince the American people that the solution is higher taxes, more spending and even bigger government. "The worst-case scenario for us is the sequester hits and nothing bad really happens," one liberal lobbyist confessed to the Post. That is why Barack Obama is telling us just how awful these cuts will be. Kids will be kicked out of school. Flights will be delayed. Workers will be furloughed and their paychecks will be cut. Today the president went to Newport News, Virginia, to warn that the Navy might have to cancel repairs to 11 ships and lay off civilian workers. It doesn't have to be this way. But that is exactly how Obama wants it to be! The cynicism of this White House and its allies is breathtaking. They are willing to punish hard-working, taxpaying citizens of this country in order to advance their far-left, big government agenda. Will Obama's Cynicism Prevail? This morning I got more real life evidence of why the Obama strategy on sequestration may ultimately work. I begin every morning by trying to personally respond to as many emails as I can from our loyal friends and supporters. I want to share two I received today. Keep in mind these folks are receiving my daily report. They are most likely pro-life and pro-family, and they probably voted for Mitt Romney. The first one comes from a military family in Europe.
"Mr. Bauer, I still receive your End of the Day reports... but now, I read them from [Europe]. My husband is a former Marine, Operation Iraqi Freedom Soldier, and now a civilian employee with the [Department of Defense]. ... "This morning, my husband ... was informed that should the sequester take place, he will be forced to take one day a week off, and we will live without $400+ a paycheck... Then my daughters came home from the international school they attend, with the news that the teachers will also be furloughed. ... "Can I ask a question? Are ANY of the entitlement checks, received by millions... being cut a penny or two? Are any congressmen going to lose even $400 out of THEIR paychecks? Is the president, or even one member of his cabinet, going to see a lower amount in THEIR paycheck if this happens?"
Here is the second message:
"Gary, "As one of the 'bureaucrats at desk jobs,' who is facing a 20% cut in my pay, I would hope that you wouldn't discount the impact that would have on my life. It won't just hit me on the odd day I happen to be at the airport. I have shown up for thirty years to a job that those in leadership deemed necessary to be done, worked hard all day long every day, producing excellent results, and continually educated myself ... so I would be prepared to change with the times and do an ever better job. I made a deal and kept my end of the bargain. I just wish my employers (Congress, the executive branch and the voters) had kept theirs."
There is no logical reason why they or anyone else should be suffering cuts in pay or why teachers should be furloughed -- EXCEPT for the fact that Obama is doing his best to portray any cut in government spending as draconian. But if I am receiving these kinds of emails from people who are probably loyal conservatives, just imagine what kind of messages Republican congressmen are receiving -- and in many cases from voters who supported them. When the sequester was negotiated, Obama demanded that some areas of the budget -- such as major entitlement programs -- be off limits. As a result, even though the sequester only amounts to 2.5% of total spending, the parts of the budget that are getting hit are taking a bigger hit proportionally than just 2.5%. Some discretionary programs are taking a 5% cut while some Defense programs are taking a 7% cut. But rather than cutting salaries, agency executives should be looking for fraud, waste, and other unnecessary spending. Any department head who can't find five or six percent in waste, fraud, duplication, etc., should be fired! Last night on the CBS Evening News, the director of the National Institutes of Health told viewers, "Medical research in America will be slowed by [the sequester], advances that could have happened sooner will happen later or perhaps not at all." That statement is absurd. The federal government is not the only entity doing medical research. Is there really nothing else in the NIH's budget to cut other than important research projects? Of course there is. But if you are the person getting cut, if you are the family in Europe, it doesn't sound absurd when your paycheck shows up 20% smaller. That is what Obama is counting on. And because the left-wing media willingly parrots the administration's propaganda, many Americans who don't watch Fox News, listen to Rush Limbaugh or read these daily reports won't know the cynical game that is being played here. Do I think Republicans in Congress could be doing a better job? Yes. I pointed out yesterday there should have been more oversight hearings. Perhaps they should be raising money to run ads to explain this. But there is no way for Republicans to explain it without the cooperation of the media. Speaker Boehner and House leaders held a press conference yesterday and presented a lot of great information. It got about 30 seconds of coverage on the evening news. This is a very frustrating time in Washington, my friends. But we cannot give up. The skirmish over sequestration is a major battle in the fight over the size and scope of government. If Obama can convince the American people that it is too draconian to cut just 2.5% of the budget, then America is doomed to follow the path of European-style socialism.

GAO Report: Obamacare Adds $6.2 Trillion to Long-Term Deficit
By Andrew Stiles February 26, 2013
 | Sessions: GAO Report Indicates Obamacare Will Add $6.2T to Deficit |
Obamacare will increase the long-term federal deficit by $6.2 trillion, according to a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report released today. Senator Jeff Sessions (R., Ala.), who requested the report, revealed the findings this morning at a Senate Budget Committee hearing. The report, he said, "confirms everything critics and Republicans were saying about the faults of this bill," and "dramatically proves that the promises made assuring the nation that the largest new entitlement program in history would not add one dime to the deficit were false." President Obama and other Democrats attempted to win support for the health-care bill by touting it as a fiscally responsible enterprise. "I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits - either now or in the future," Obama told a joint-session of Congress in September 2009. "I will not sign it if it adds one dime to the deficit, now or in the future, period." The new report exposes the "lack of honesty" surrounding such claims, Sessions argued. " The big-government crowd in Washington manipulated the numbers in order to get the financial score they wanted, in order to get their bill passed and to increase power and influence," he said. "The goal was not truth or financial responsibility, but to pass the bill. This is how a country goes broke." Read more:

Christians Are Now World's Most Persecuted Religion
Posted: 26 Feb 2013 11:34 AM PST
(John Hinderaker)
At Commentary, Evelyn Gordon writes that Christianity has replaced Judaism as the world's most persecuted religion:
In recent months, a new consensus has emerged: For the first time in millennia, Judaism has lost its title as the world's most persecuted religion; today, that dubious honor goes to Christianity. "Christians are targeted more than any other body of believers," wrote Rupert Shortt in a 54-page report for the London-based Civitas institute in December, which meticulously documented their persecution on a country-by-country basis. Even politicians have begun grasping this fact: German Chancellor Angela Merkel publicly deemed Christianity "the most persecuted religion in the world" in November. In short, as one commentator put it last week, Christians have become the new Jews.
Gordon attributes this shift partly to the existence of Israel, which gives haven to persecuted Jews. That is no doubt correct, although I think most of the places that are now persecuting Christians either killed or drove off their Jews long ago, or-like, say, Nigeria and Indonesia-never had any to speak of.
As a Christian, I take particular note of the second factor that Gordon Notes, "increased persecution of Christians." That persecution has been, in my view, far too little reported. Many Americans (which means, by default, many American Christians) apparently still labor under the complacent illusion that the world's principal religious conflict is between Muslims and Jews. That is no longer true, if it ever was. Rather, the main victims of Islamic oppression, and all too often Islamic violence, are Christians. It would be good if this fact were more widely understood. Then maybe we will find out whether American Christians care.

Jack Lew, an object lesson in plutocracy
Posted: 26 Feb 2013 09:07 AM PST
(Paul Mirengoff)
The Wall Street Journal focuses attention on two questions regarding Jack Lew and the paychecks he received from private employers before returning to government. First, why did New York University pay severance to Lew in 2006 when he left there voluntarily to work at Citigroup? In my experience, employers don't pay folks to quit their job. Severance pay is what you get when you are, in effect, sacked.
Second, why did the terms of Lew's original employment contract with Citigroup include a bonus guarantee if he left the bank for a "high level position with the United States government or regulatory body?" As the Journal observes:
Most companies include incentives for top employees not to leave, but in this case the contract was written to reward Mr. Lew for treating the bank like a revolving door. Citi says it likes to accommodate employees who do public service or work at nonprofits. But the Lew contract was specific about a senior job in the federal government. There would be no special payout if he left to run the Red Cross or the New York state budget office.
Actually, there isn't much of a mystery here:
Mr. Lew's contract suggests that Citi knew from the start that Mr. Lew was headed back to a powerful job in Washington, and that it wanted him to remember the bank fondly when he left.
Is this a matter of concern? Yes, it is:
We have nothing against people making a living, but when they show up a few years later to do more "public service," taxpayers have a right to know what their private employers were paying them to do. All of this matters in particular in a Dodd-Frank world when the biggest banks are public utilities. They have little choice but to do what a Treasury Secretary tells them to do. A too-big-to-fail bank must be pleased to know that in a little more than two years it made the sacrifice of government so much easier for America's most powerful banking regulator.
Or, as Troy Senik at Ricochet puts it:
[The Lew arrangement] is nothing short of the contractual codification of regulatory capture. Make the federal government essential to the operation of the big banks and you make it essential for the big banks to infiltrate the federal government at every turn. Lew and Citi - operating on the basis of rational, if perverse, incentives - deserve a lot less of the blame here than a government that makes this calculation reasonable. It's an exercise in plutocracy - from an administration that likes to posture about "fat cat bankers."

What Would We Do Without Social Science?
Posted: 26 Feb 2013 09:07 AM PST
(Steven Hayward)
Quantitative social science is best when it provides rigorous evidence of counter-intuitive propositions, that is, when it can debunk commonly held perceptions about phenomena. A good example is Charles Murray's careful analysis of social survey data in Coming Apart, showing that in fact low-income whites are abandoning religion and marriage much more than high-income whites-the reverse of what is typically perceived. But much of the time, social science is proving the trivial or the obvious, and offering little in the way of genuine advancement of our general understanding of how the world works.
My favorite recent example is a nine-year Finnish study of more than 55,000 people that found-are your sitting down for this?-that people who live close to bars drink more heavily! "Conversely," the news story helpfully reports, "the farther away a participant was from the bar, the less likely they would be heavy drinkers." And the news writer reminds us, just in case we forgot, "The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warn that heavy drinking can lead to liver disease and cancer." And, "The study appears in the journal Addiction." Good to know that last part; I was beginning to suspect someone had slipped one from The Onion past me.
What? You mean she's atypical?
Meanwhile, in the "Important News You Can Use Department," the good people at LiveScience.com reported yesterday that based on an analysis of 10,000 porn stars, the average adult film actress is a brunette with a B-cup named "Nikki." There may be a problem with data quality, though, as LiveScience reports: "[M]any actresses are reluctant to help researchers, because they're worried that the studies will be used against them by anti-pornography activists." Even worse: the research was not peer reviewed! "Millward's data is not published in a research journal or peer-reviewed by experts, so scientists like Griffith take it with a grain of salt." Now, it would seem that finding the qualified peer group to review porn data shouldn't be that hard, yet the story adds the dismaying news that "academic research on the porn star population is lacking." This is just the sort of important research that is going to be curtailed if the sequester goes through.
But are these examples really more trivial than what often appears in the "mainstream" journals like the American Political Science Review? The latest issue actually has several articles that appear worth reading and on relevant topics of the moment, but I'm still guffawing over an article from the last issue of 2012 entitled "Tying Your Enemy's Hands in Close Races: The Politics of Federal Transfers in Brazil." Here's the abstract:
This article uses a regression discontinuity design in close electoral races to disclose purely political reasons in the allocation of intergovernmental transfers in a federal state. We identify the effect of political alignment on federal transfers to municipal governments in Brazil, and find that-in preelection years-municipalities in which the mayor is affiliated with the coalition (and especially with the political party) of the Brazilian president receive approximately one-third larger discretionary transfers for infrastructures. This effect is primarily driven by the fact that the federal government penalizes municipalities run by mayors from the opposition coalition who won by a narrow margin, thereby tying their hands for the next election.
The mathematics in the article are very impressive, but at the end of the article the authors have merely proved what every citizen of Chicago knows intuitively: practical politics operates by rewarding your friends and hurting your enemies, with the allocation of public money being the best tool. Do we really need social science to prove this to our satisfaction? And people wonder why social science isn't moving very fast to answer some of our biggest social problems. As I sometimes say to students about this, no one is ever going to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with a regression equation.

Fishing for Oscar, the Lincoln edition
Posted: 26 Feb 2013 08:43 AM PST
(Paul Mirengoff)
In Hollywood, I imagine, the two sincerest forms of flattery are imitation and left-liberalism. As I suggested yesterday, Argo clinched its Oscar for best picture through the flattery of a left-liberal introduction and conclusion to its story about revolutionary Iran. But let's not overlook the opening scene from Lincoln which, in my opinion, strikes the only false notes in this brilliant film.
That scene features an African-American soldier, in the aftermath of a bloody battle, complaining to Lincoln about pay disparities between black and white soldiers and, more generally, the absence of equal rights. Did such a conversation occur? Conceivably, but the complaining soldier seems like a time traveler, transported from a college campus in the 1960s.
The first scene closes with two white soldiers who happened to be present when Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address. They recite to Lincoln the first part of the speech. When the white soldiers exit to join their company, a black soldier takes up the recitation.
This fragment surely is fiction. The Gettysburg Address was not an "instant classic" and its wording would not have been known to any soldier, black or white, not in attendance.
Why did Lincoln open with this scene? Probably for the same reason Argo opened with its standard-issue liberal account of the rise of radical Islam in Iran - to meet the political correctness imperative.
In the case of Lincoln, the imperative was to bring heroic African-American characters into a movie about a Constitutional Amendment to ban slavery. To be sure, African-Americans appear in the course of the plot. But they appear as servants and a mistress. These characters are noble enough, but they aren't superheroes.
Bringing black soldiers, fresh off of a military victory, into the movie bridges that gap. And having one of them remind Lincoln how far from equality African-Americans will remain after the war precludes excessive self-congratulation over passing the Thirteenth Amendment. Let's not kid ourselves; Lincoln was great, but America will remain rotten for quite some time.
Finally, the recitation of the Gettysburg Address by black and white soldiers shows that, even though America will remain rotten, the seed has been planted for a "new birth of freedom." "Progressives," eventually, will take it from there.
As with Argo, the flattery is complete. The filmmakers have touched all of the left-liberal bases and can now get on with telling their story and hoping for that Oscar.
Here is Lincoln's opening scene.

Let Them Eat Cake? Government Destroys 1,600 Pounds of Deer Meat for Homeless Just Because
Hunters and homeless people in Louisiana are righteously outraged after state health officials forced a homeless shelter to throw out nearly a ton of perfectly good venison.
The meat that had been donated to the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission could have fed more than 3,000 people. Instead, it was tossed in trash bins by officials from the Department of Health and Hospitals who say that state law prohibits the serving of venison in homeless shelters.
Not only did the officials toss the meat, they doused it with Clorox to make sure it couldn't be eaten by animals or, presumably, people.
"Deer meat is not permitted to be served in a shelter, restaurant or any other public eating establishment in Louisiana," an official told Fox News in an email. "While we applaud the good intentions of the hunters who donated this meat, we must protect the people who eat at the Rescue Mission, and we cannot allow a potentially serious health threat to endanger the public."
Richard Campbell, co-founder of Hunters for the Hungry, a charitable group that donates wild game to shelters, said hunters across the state and in Mississippi are outraged about the statement and the waste.
The state's health Gestapo got involved after someone at the shelter complained about being fed deer meat, a staple in many countries across the globe and considered by most people to be a treat or a delicacy.
I don't know what's wrong with Louisiana, but in California, turning down venison would be like turning down a lobster tail with drawn butter - it's something that sane people who aren't vegetarians just wouldn't do.
The director of the mission said they've been serving venison for years. The shelter, by the way, doesn't take any government money. It's completely self-sufficient thanks to its donors.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has lost its six-year campaign to tear down a Ten Commandments monument at the Dixie County, Florida, courthouse.
They've even lost their usual extortion money for harassing a community.
The case fell apart after the plaintiff, an anonymous North Carolina man who had planned to come to Dixie County to live in his RV, decided not to move there after all.

Virginia Judge Blocks Voter ID Advocate from Electoral Board
This column by ACRU Policy Board Member J. Christian Adams was published on February 22, 2013 on Breitbart.com.
In Virginia, the Fairfax Democratic Party is gloating over the effective removal of voter integrity advocate Hans von Spakovsky from the electoral board of the largest county in the state.
As the end of von Spakovsky's current term on the board approached its end, Fairfax Republicans submitted his name and two others as nominees for two of the board's three seats (since Republican Bob McDonnell currently serves as governor, his party gets the majority of seats). In an unprecedented move, Fairfax County Circuit Judges rejected von Spakovsky for the position, even though Republicans designated him as their preferred nominee.

Steven Spielberg's Lincoln has been a box-office hit and nominated for 12 Academy Awards, including best picture, best director and best actor for Daniel Day-Lewis, who portrayed our 16th president. I haven't seen the movie; therefore, this column is not about the movie but about a man deified by many. My colleague Thomas DiLorenzo, economics professor at Loyola University Maryland, exposed some of the Lincoln myth in his 2006 book, Lincoln Unmasked. Now comes Joseph Fallon, cultural intelligence analyst and former U.S. Army Intelligence Center instructor, with his new e-book, Lincoln Uncensored. Fallon's book examines 10 volumes of collected writings and speeches of Lincoln's, which include passages on slavery, secession, equality of blacks and emancipation. We don't have to rely upon anyone's interpretation. Just read his words to see what you make of them.

Sequester Hysterics
This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published February 20, 2013 on The American Spectator website.
President Obama told America yesterday morning that if the sequester goes through on March 1,
It will eviscerate job-creating investments in education and energy and medical research.... Emergency responders like the ones who are here today - their ability to help communities respond to and recover from disasters will be degraded. Border Patrol agents will see their hours reduced. FBI agents will be furloughed. Federal prosecutors will have to close cases and let criminals go. Air traffic controllers and airport security will see cutbacks, which means more delays at airports across the country. Thousands of teachers and educators will be laid off. Tens of thousands of parents will have to scramble to find childcare for their kids.

Republicans For Gay Marriage - All The World Grows Stupid GrassTopsUSA Exclusive Commentary By Don Feder 02/26/2013
It's said that in the halcyon days before World War I, the aged Emperor Franz Josef attended an opening session of the parliament of Austria-Hungary, where - as reigning monarch - he was expected to make formal remarks. After listening to one long-winded speech after another, at last, it was the octogenarian Emperor's turn. By now thoroughly disgusted, Franz Josef wobbled to the podium, uttered a single phrase in Latin - roughly translated as "All the world grows stupid" - and sat down to stunned silence. With two Supreme Court cases pending that could either reaffirm or remake an institution that forms the bedrock of society, the debate over "same-sex marriage" has come down to political celebrities brandishing clichés. All the world grows stupid. The ironically named Respect for Marriage Coalition is spending $1 million on a national advertising campaign to convince us that support for MINO (marriage in name only) is bipartisan. Besides Dear Leader, the ads feature clips from speeches by Colin Powell, Laura Bush and Dick Cheney endorsing stupidity in the sacred name of equality. It's a wonder anyone still thinks of Powell as a Republican. He only endorsed Obama twice, and recently warned of a "dark vein of intolerance in the GOP." Cheney is a model Wall Street Republican who thought McCain made a big mistake in choosing Sarah Palin as his running mate - no corporate connections, middle-class background, would never be allowed to tee off at our country club, if you know what I mean.

Where Could We POSSIBLY Cut the Federal Budget?
If you had to cut your family's budget, where would you cut? Would you immediately start starving your children and stop wearing shoes? Of course not. You would look at the extras in your life-whether they were coffee shop lattes, movie tickets, or restaurant meals. It's a good thing the President wouldn't be handling your budget. As Dan Holler of our sister organization, Heritage Action for America, has said: "If President Obama were making the decision for your family... he'd tell you to stop buying gas for your car and explain how you could only eat five days a week." Now that President Obama has turned against sequestration, he is suggesting that spending cuts to federal agencies must result in dire consequences. Firefighters, emergency responders, and teachers will all be cut, he claims. Media outlets have played up these sob stories, copying White House releases in their local news stories and soliciting sad testimonials from people who supposedly would be affected by these cuts. But the question remains: Why would federal agencies cut their most vital assets instead of trimming around the edges? After all, the sequestration cuts are only 2.4 percent of federal spending. Take a couple of examples. President Obama said that "Air traffic controllers and airport security will see cutbacks, which means more delays at airports across the country." It won't come as a surprise to most Americans that there is waste and inefficiency at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). In fact, a congressional report "found that TSA is wasting hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars." Another report found that the TSA "has continually grown its ranks despite fewer travelers." President Obama said that "Thousands of teachers and educators will be laid off." First of all, as Heritage researchers have pointed out, "No federal education program operated by the Department of Education directly funds teacher salaries-this is a state and local responsibility." And there are plenty of programs where inefficiencies are burdening our education system. A congressional report listed a number of duplicative or ineffective education programs that could be cut. As if these exaggerations weren't enough, Reason.com reported that the Office of Management and Budget warned of sequestration cuts to an agency that doesn't even exist. As Reason's Mike Riggs noted, this raises questions about the accuracy of the Administration's attempted impact statements. There is one area where the sequestration cuts will have harsher impacts-national defense. Heritage has warned of the impact on military readiness and America's ability to defend itself, because defense bears a much larger portion of the cuts than the rest of the budget. The President is now acting concerned about the military after paying it little mind throughout the sequestration debate, using a shipyard as his backdrop for today's anti-sequestration pep talk. It makes no sense to hit defense the hardest with these cuts, while sequestration leaves major entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicaid untouched. Congress should reprogram these spending cuts to target the waste and inefficiencies it has already identified in federal agencies-like those listed above. Heritage's Patrick Louis Knudsen, the Grover M. Hermann Senior Fellow in Federal Budgetary Affairs, even helpfully outlined places to find $150 billion in spending cuts that would make a lot more sense. So no, we don't have to fire firefighters and teachers and airport screeners. What Congress should be doing is what every American family does-tightening its budget by cutting things that are unnecessary.

COMMENTARY: Infantile Conservatism By Patrick J. Buchanan How is America, with thousands of strategic and tactical nuclear weapons, scores of warships in the Med, Persian Gulf, Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean, bombers and nuclear subs and land-based missiles able to strike and incinerate Iran within half an hour, threatened by Iran? Remarkable. Our uncles and fathers turned the Empire of the Sun and Third Reich into cinders in four years, and the younger generation is all wee-weed up over Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Higher Minimum Wages By Walter E. Williams In his State of the Union address, President Barack Obama proposed raising the minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to $9 an hour. Joe's Shotgun Advice
This Week's Non Compos Mentis Award Winner: "If you want to protect yourself, get a double barrel shotgun, have the shells, a twelve gauge shotgun, and I promise you as I told my wife, we live in an area that's wooded and somewhat secluded -- I said if there is ever a problem, just walk out on the balcony, walk out, put that double barrel shotgun, and fire two blasts outside the house. I promise you whoever is coming in is not going." --Joe "Shotgun" Biden advising women on self defense: Fire two rounds from a double barrel shotgun, so that your gun will be empty when the rapist/killer comes in!
