Quote:
"The true liberty of the press is amply secured by permitting every man to publish his opinion; but it is due to the peace and dignity of society, to inquire into the motives of such publications, and to distinguish between those which are meant for use and reformation, and with an eye solely to the public good, and those which are intended merely to delude and defame. To the latter description, it is impossible that any good government should afford protection and impunity."
~ Thomas McKean, Respublica v. Oswald, 1788

Obama's Foreign Policy Fiasco
The damage that Barack Obama is doing to America economically and culturally is obvious to most of you, and we are doing all that we can to fight back. But the damage to our foreign policy is not so obvious, and the mess Obama is making will be very hard for the next president to clean up. For example, while Obama is trying to prevent law-abiding American citizens from owning certain firearms, he is sending tanks and jets to the radical Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt -- weapons that could well be used against our ally Israel. While reducing America's dependence on oil from hostile regimes has been a key priority for years, Obama has so far refused to embrace the Keystone pipeline from our ally Canada. Now there are reports that Obama sent secret missions to North Korea. For years the Left railed against George W. Bush's "cowboy" policies. "If only we would talk to our enemies," they said, as if our disagreements were just simple misunderstandings. So what did Obama do? He reached out to North Korea, and it got us nothing but another nuclear test. The latest North Korean propaganda film says the nuclear test was prompted by our "hostility" and shows Obama and U.S. soldiers engulfed in flames. By the way, North Korea is working hand-in-hand with Iran too. But the really breathtaking part is that we conducted these missions without letting Japan, a key ally, know. Not only did we not tell Japan, but when Japanese officials discovered evidence of our secret flights to North Korea and approached us, the Obama Administration's response was dismissive and arrogant, even threatening. According to the report, "The U.S. State Department even warned the [Japanese] Foreign Ministry against making further inquiries, saying they would harm bilateral relations." I understand that the U.S. can't conduct every foreign policy mission in broad daylight. But to the Japanese, this must surely seem very unusual. Japan is facing an increasingly aggressive China, and it is well within range of North Korean missiles. Why wouldn't we want Japan to know unless we were getting ready to make concessions they would object to? Obama's approach to the world can be summed up as a unique foreign policy that reaches out to our enemies while insulting our friends. That is not a recipe for success. More Questions About Hagel In recent days new information about controversial speeches by former Senator Chuck Hagel has come to light. Yesterday the Washington Free Beacon reported that during a 2010 appearance at Rutgers University, Hagel allegedly accused Israel of routinely violating U.N. resolutions, called for negotiations with Hamas, labeled Benjamin Netanyahu a "radical" and suggested that Israel was becoming an "apartheid state." This new revelation comes on the heels of a report last week about another Rutgers speech Hagel gave in 2007. During those remarks, Hagel said, "The State Department has become adjunct to the Israeli Foreign Minister's office." Monday the Daily Caller reported that Hagel's 2007 speech was organized by a foundation directly controlled by the Iranian regime. In fact, Hooshang Amirahmadi, who ran the foundation at the time of Hagel's speech, is a candidate for the Iranian presidency this year. In recent days, I have received a number of emails expressing frustration that some Republican senators appear willing to end the filibuster of Hagel's nomination. These senators fundamentally believe that the president should get his choices. As frustrating as that is (and we think Hagel could still be beaten), the really depressing thing is that the overwhelming majority of Senate Democrats campaigned as friends of Israel. Yet not one of them has been willing to stand up to Obama and oppose Chuck Hagel. Criminalizing Judeo-Christian Values For those of you who appreciate biblical references, we've been telling you that the handwriting is on the wall when it comes to the radical agenda of the militant homosexual rights movement. It is trying to criminalize the teaching of the Bible and punish those who dare defend God's ordained institution of marriage. Well, here we go. Last month a homosexual rights group dragged Pastor Scott Lively into a Massachusetts federal court and essentially charged him with "crimes against humanity." The suit alleges that Lively's preaching and support for legislation in Uganda criminalizing homosexual behavior directly contributed to violence against homosexuals in the country. And who is behind the lawsuit? Obama's good friend George Soros. The plaintiffs in the case are being represented by the Center for Constitutional Rights, which is funded by Soros. Fortunately the judge seemed highly critical of the Center's claim that Lively could be held responsible. But this lawsuit is a dangerous precedent that exposes the Left's intolerance for our First Amendment rights of free speech and religious liberty.

CAIR Director Calls for Death Penalty for Blasphemers Against Islam
February 19, 2013 By Daniel Greenfield
The most disturbing thing about this is that "Sharia law" prosecutions can only take place in the Muslim world. So this looks a lot like an attempt at intimidating and perhaps even causing the death of Atheist and Christian critics of Islam in the Muslim world.
Last August, the director of CAIR St. Louis, Faizan Syed, wrote about his ideas for monitoring social media titled Social Media Task Force. Sayed wants to create a Muslim youth association who would aggressively monitor the media. What really stood out was this statement under the section "I have few suggestions to make in this regard" (5th bullet): "Report anti Islamic and anti Muslim content on the internet to appropriate authorities to take action to remove it and go after those who post it online and prosecute and take actions according to the Shariah ruling." Take action according to the Sharia ruling? Humm... in some countries this could mean death.
CAIR's thought police would be creepy enough on their own, but left-wing groups already do this sort of thing. But under Sharia law, blasphemy, heresy and any questioning of Islam, or even a cartoon of Mohammed, can result in the death penalty.
Even if CAIR's Director only meant that the domestic pursuit of Islamic critics should take place according to Sharia law, that would be bad enough as the last thing the United States needs is an Islamic Inquisition, violent or otherwise. But Syed's talk of an international effort, saying, "There need at least one such team in every country (I know it's a daunting taks, but one small steps takes us to bigger one)", shows that we are talking about an international effort that would no doubt extend to countries where violent means could be used in defense of Islamic theocracy.

Taxpayers to Help China's Economy?
Senators raise alarm over another possible sale of taxpayer-backed firm to Chinese
FoxNews | Published February 21, 2013
GOP senators raise alarm as Chinese firm leads pack of companies bidding for a majority stake in troubled electric car maker Fisker Automotive, which US taxpayers backed for $530 million.
Republican senators complained Wednesday that U.S. taxpayer dollars could end up boosting the Chinese economy, following reports that a Chinese firm is leading the pack of companies bidding for a majority stake in government-backed Fisker Automotive. The troubled California-based electric car maker, which was backed by U.S. taxpayers to the tune of nearly $530 million, for months has been looking for a financial partner. Reuters reported earlier this week that China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group is favored to take over, though Fisker is also reportedly weighing a bid from another Chinese auto maker.

Dear Members and Friends,
As many of you know, last Wednesday, the day after President Obama's State of the Union Address, 20 companion Gun Bills were passed by the Law and Public Safety Committee of the New Jersey Assembly despite the presence of strong, vocal opposition.
All but one of the 20 companion bills--a measure intended to prevent the media from publishing the addresses and other private information of gun owners--will make life more difficult for law abiding gun owners.
(Visit the Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs for more information.)
We are asking our New Jersey Members and Friends to phone, fax, and/or email your legislators now, as a vote on the full floor of the Assembly is expected, tomorrow (Thursday, February 21).
To find your legislators, visit:
Request that the Assembly stop their assault on the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution.
Regardless of gun control polls in New Jersey, Second Amendment rights cannot be discarded without amending the US Constitution.
Also, please comment underneath online news stories (like the one above) declaring your opposition to the passing of legislation that will neither protect children nor stop violent criminals.
Many thanks for your vigilance.
On behalf of the Association Board,
Teri Adams

IMPORTANT MEETING - MUST ATTEND!! LET YOUR VOICES BE HEARD.
Dear Patriots,
Please plan on attending this meeting on February 28, 2013. There is a proposed bike trail in several different areas of Chester County costing a wopping 45 million dollars for the project. Whether you live in these areas or not, we need everyone to attend this and speak up. As you know, our county taxes have gone up this year and with this proposed plan, I am sure they will be going up even higher. Question: How many miles of trails and pedestrian walkways do we already have and what is the utilization? Where is the money going to come from to pay for these new trails? Who is pushing for this and why?
You may think that your voice does not count. Word of encouragement. It does. Last night, there was a meeting in Oxford boro where the boro was pushing through some gun restrictions (magazines, etc). A group of concerned citizens (between 100 - 200 people) spoke up and the motion was not passed. I believe in order to fight what is going on, we need to come out in masses. Also, another encouraging word, a smartmeter man came up to one of our fellow patriots to install a smart meter. Fortunately the person was home and explained to him why he did not want a smart meter (equipment he had in his house would be affected). After talking with the gentlemen installing the smart meter, and him taking notes, the man left without installing the smart meter. Now I am sure this is not the end of it, but everyone can make a difference.
Pass this email on to everyone you know and please I urge you to attend this meeting. The liberals will be there so we need to be there will double the amount of people.
Thank you. Click on the visit our website link below for the meeting announcement.

Hi friends,
Follow-up from Thursday's (Feb 14) meeting
1) Come ready to discuss primarily public pensions at our March 14 meeting. This link will help you become more informed. Dr. Paul Baumgartner will present 15-20 mins on the situation & what can be done to relieve it as a seed for discussion (click for Paul's editorial). My intent: leave with a plan, actions to be taken, & a system of accountability to ensure we are acting as a local movement rather than just a few outspoken, marginal constituents. 2) Great to have Diana Reimer speak to us on such short notice. She spoke to the people that are aware but are not active in the movement - the persistent irony: they weren't at our meeting. I am very proud of the core of our group. Looking around that night at the attendees, I recognized that every member present did something. If you're interested, at the bottom is a list of things individuals in our group have done/do. Be impressed. Some events/dates: 1) This week beginning Feb 18, House & Senate home. Time to visit district offices and attend town halls. 2) Tentatively late February: Our "Sticker Stop" - set up a location, publicize, attach bumper sticker if people want it. Says "One right that protects them all" with a 2 nd amendment symbol. 3) Sat Feb 23, a 2 nd Amendment rally at the Montco Courthouse in Norristown, 2pm. More info: https://www.facebook.com/CFLiberty4) Call your state representative today and tell them to support a) Stan Saylor's HB269 (will stop Medicaid expansion in PA under Obamacare, currently in HEALTH committee) and b) Daryl Metcalfe's HB357 (will protect Pennsylvanian's gun rights from Federal over-reach, currently in JUDICIARY committee.) Local reps Marcy Toepel (who is great) is on both committees, and Matt Bradford is on the Judiciary committee. 5) March 1 st: Sequestration kicks in - Obama wants you to forget he insisted on it. Now is against it, will use as weapon against Repubs. Whatever, we need cuts. 6) PA Leadership Conference, April 19-20 in Harrisburg http://www.paleadershipconference.org/7) 2 nd Amendment petition promoted by Bill Bennett here: http://www.supportsecondamendment.com/8) Good site for talking points: http://obamacaretruthsquad.com/9) Tea Party Patriots telephone town halls - sign up here: http://www.teapartypatriots.org/patriottownhall/?ref=homepage (Mark Levin's on March 3!) Thing's our group has done, off the top of Pam's and my head:made campaign/issues packets, went door to door for the election through AFP/TPP, made calls for Romney/AFP, worked the polls, showed up at rallies, became committee people and elected officials, volunteered at Habitat for Humanity, collected for food bank in Red Hill, sent stuff to troops, put together great Flag Day observance/speaker events/candidate forums and other public events, spoke at school board meetings, met with/called our public servants, wrote iron-clad editorials, donated money for billboards and group projects, found places to set up public outreach tables, manned those tables, wrote thousands of postcards, marched in parades, maintains our group's Facebook, runs our A/V at meetings, communicates civics/ common sense truths to current students in the classroom and past students through Facebook, hosts Constitution classes, took liberal adversaries to see Sam Rohrer speak, lets us use the Rock for our meetings, promoted fiscal responsibility while on the Souderton School Board, ran a 5000 Year Leap book club, coordinated all of SE PA volunteers for Sam Rohrer's campaign, educated the group on many topics including the Gadsden Flag, speak with people in our daily lives... Diana's necessary question of "Where were you" surely applies to many people, but to the core of our group, the answer to that is "right here, out there, doing stuff." As a proxy for our effectiveness, our group's local area did very well in the election. But it's not just about winning elections. It's about promoting our core values, fighting to preserve our nation.

Metcalfe Seeks to Make Federal Gun-Grabbing A Criminal Offense in Pennsylvania
|
HARRISBURG - State Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) today announced his legislation that would make any new federal gun control laws unenforceable within the Commonwealth.
"Passage of my legislation will send the message that there will never be additional gun control, anywhere in Pennsylvania," said Metcalfe. "Whether by White House executive orders, congressional fiat, or judicial activism, we will never allow the left to benefit from the wicked acts of murderers in order advance their senseless gun-grabbing agenda which would only succeed in replacing one of our most sacred personal liberties with the chains of government tyranny."
Similar to legislation most recently introduced in Wyoming and Texas, Metcalfe's Right to Bear Arms Protection Act (House Bill 357) would:
- Prohibit enforcement of any new federal registration, restriction or prohibition requirement for privately owned firearms, magazines and ammunition.
- Require the state of Pennsylvania, including the Office of Attorney General, to intercede on behalf of Commonwealth citizens against any federal attempt to register, restrict or ban the purchase or ownership of firearms and firearms accessories which are currently legal products.
Final enactment of Metcalfe's Right to Bear Arms Protection Act would mean that anyone - even federal agents - who try to enforce any type of gun control restriction within state borders would face arrest and being charged with a felony offense.
"The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned," said Metcalfe. "Article 1, Section 21 of the Pennsylvania Constitution makes it crystal clear that no level of government, especially the federal government, has any authority whatsoever to impose senseless restrictions on law-abiding firearms owners, or worse, the confiscation of legally owned firearms. The purpose of my legislation is to force any gun-grabbing federal official to count the costs of unconstitutionally disarming or denying Pennsylvania citizens their God-given right to keep and bear arms."
Metcalfe is also calling on all Pennsylvania citizens who support Constitutional liberty to attend Pennsylvania's annual Second Amendment Action Day on Tuesday, April 23, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the State Capitol Rotunda, and to sign the all-new Armed Pennsylvania: Say to No Gun Control petition by visiting RepMetcalfe.com.

Important Announcement from SFL
|
You're probably wondering why you've been getting more emails from me and Sustainable Freedom Lab after having had next to none for quite some time.
Well, the truth is that I've been very busy. As always, I spend enormous amounts of my time researching, writing, and speaking to the public about the threats of Agenda 21 and Regionalism.
I've also been working on important projects behind the scenes.
Now I'm finally ready to reveal the first of these "secret" projects: The DVD version of "Stopping Agenda 21 in Your Community".
Like the title suggests, this DVD program offers step-by-step training on how you can fight back against those who would bring Agenda 21 into your community. The test audience who saw this program during the limited streaming we held last Fall felt it was critical viewing for anyone concerned about the erosion of our property rights.
Click here to read my blog post on the SFL website about our first DVD.

Saturday Workout with Dom
Rescheduled
February 23, 12-2 PM (details below)
Open to Association Members and Friends
February 18, 2013, 8 PM
Senator John 'Predictable' McCain and his side-kick, Senator Lindsey Graham, announced during separate appearances on the Sunday Talk Show circuit that they would be voting to end the filibuster of Chuck Hagel as Defense Secretary when the Senate reconvenes on February 26.
This will give the Democrats the 60 votes they need to end the filibuster which threatened Hagel's nomination.
While McCain and Graham will ultimately vote against the Hagel nomination, they, along with colleagues Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Mike Johanns, and Thad Cochran, will be responsible for the simple majority
up or down vote that will confirm Hagel.
Please call the Capitol Switchboard @ 202.224.3121 and tell these Senators to sto the President and Hagel by voting to keep the filibuster alive.
In other news, it was reported that (surprise) New Jersey Senator Frank Lautenberg will be retiring in 2014. We should urge scandal-ridden Senator Bob Menendez, also of New Jersey, to retire immediately.

Important Dates:
- February 15 - March 27, 2013 - Debt Ceiling: Sometime in this date range we are expected to reach the debt ceiling (Technically we have already hit the debt ceiling, but this is the date range when we will reach a point where the Treasury can no longer implement "extraordinary measures" to meet our spending obligations.
- February 28, 2013 - Sequestration: The "fiscal cliff" bill created a new manufactured crisis that will happen sometime at the end of February. This is when the sequestration can was kicked down the road.
- March 31, 2013 - Continuing Resolution: The current Continuing Resolution that the government is operating under expires on March 31. This means that they will have to pass a CR between now and then.
- April 15, 2013 - Budget Resolution: This is the date by law in which both Houses should have a budget resolution passed. And here's some really great news: This year's registration fee is only $229! Register by April 15th and you'll receive our "Early Bird" rate of just $189!
|
We also offer again this year special benefits for Patriot Eagle and Patriot sponsors. We have some exciting new wrinkles planned for this year's event, and our list of confirmed speakers already includes:
- Steven Emerson - Journalist, author, and the Executive Editor of the Investigative Project on Terrorism. A. M. Rosenthal, late-managing editor of The New York Times, described Emerson as "one of the nation's best national security correspondents."
- John Guandolo - Former FBI agent and one of America's leading authorities on the Muslim Brotherhood and its inner workings in America. Guandolo spoke at our conference in 2011 and received rave reviews from conference attendees!
- Ezra Levant - Canadian lawyer, author, newspaper columnist with Sun Media, and former publisher of the Western Standard. Hauled before a Canadian "human rights commission" because he published the Danish cartoons that satirized Muhammad, Levant's personal account of a politically correct government inquisition is something you won't want to miss!
|
The National Conference & Legislative Briefing will begin on Wed. evening, June 19th, and conclude on Friday, June 21st at noon, with additional optional training sessions Friday afternoon.
It will again feature our very popular Capitol Hill Awards Luncheon and our signature gala banquet-and of course, our Legislative Briefing, where Members of Congress will brief you on various issues and answer your questions.
|
So make your plans now to join us in our nation's capital for what promises to be our best National Conference & Legislative Briefing ever! More details to come!

Has Communist Ideology Overtaken America? Education is crucial. Today I want to share two very interesting lists with you, and rather than adding an extensive amount of my commentary, I want to give you the chance to examine the facts for yourself. It is my opinion that many communist goals have already been accomplished. I also believe that advancement has been made in other areas. But, you owe it to yourself to do your own research. I believe not only in the freedom of speech, but also in the responsibility of free thought. So please don't take my word for it. Examine the facts for yourself.
Again, I want to share two lists with you. The first is a list that was entered into 1963 Congressional Record. The second is the 10 planks of The Communist Manifesto.
If you can't see this happening in America, and a ton of progress being made, then I offer two potential explanations:
- You are one of the "useful idiots" of communist teaching.
- I am one of the "village idiots" that your Mama probably warned you about.
Some of these points will be open for debate and some will not. In some cases it is blatantly obvious that they have achieved their goals. It is even rumored that our own President has deep communist ties. You might want to check that out as well but I will withhold my opinion at this point. Let's just lay it out and you can interpret it.
This list was originally printed in "The Naked Communist" by Cleon Skousen. It was entered into Congressional Record in 1963 as the 45 goals of "The Communist Takeover of America."

Individuals sympathetic to the Muslim Brotherhood's sinister agenda have infiltrated the Obama Administration.
Brainwashed by the Muslim Students Association and then propelled in to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the David Horowitz Freedom Center tracks the path of Huma Abedin and other Muslim sympathizers who have navigated their way into positions of great influence in the Obama Administration. Everything is revealed in the explosive new Freedom Center pamphlet, "The Muslim Brotherhood in the Obama Administration," written by Frank Gaffney, national security expert who served as Assistant Secretary of Defense under Ronald Reagan.
The David Horowitz Freedom Center is committed to educating the public on the Muslim Brotherhood's sinister Agenda. That is why we are giving away this pamphlet for FREE.

Subject: Great Sources of information---Please keep in folder.
From a Fellow Patriot that was kind enough to put this together.
I spoke with someone recently regarding web sites/groups and subscriptions to information/news feeds. This is a listing of many such which may be of use to folks. The number of emails can get overwhelming at times, so check out the sites and see what suits your need. I recommend, though to be sure to subscribe to at least #1 Tea Party Patriots and #2 Americans for Prosperity. Groups/web sites for keeping up on issues, events, etc. 1. Tea Party Patriots (National) http://www.teapartypatriots.org Dot's note ► From this site, you can get to state and local group sites. Basically, this is our "Home page" for information on the national level. Great site to keep up with issues within the "realm" of the Tea Party's core values: Fiscal Responsibility, Free Markets and constitutionally limited Government. They have many citizen journalists who contribute. Also, information on events, etc. From the site: ABOUT TEA PARTY PATRIOTS The Tea Party movement spontaneously formed in 2009 from the reaction of the American people to fiscally irresponsible actions of the federal government, misguided "stimulus" spending, bailouts and takeovers of private industry. Within the first few weeks of the movement, Tea Party Patriots formed to support the millions of Americans seeking to improve our great nation through renewed support for fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government, and free market economic policies. Tea Party Patriots is a national grassroots organization that exists to serve and support the thousands of local organizations and millions of grassroots Patriots throughout our nation. We provide logistical, educational, networking and other support to thousands of community-based tea party groups around the country. Tea Party Patriots state and national coordinators serve your local grassroots groups, support you with the tools and technology you need to address your local issues, listen to your voices, gather your ideas, and together help shape the overall direction of our national movement. Working in a truly grassroots fashion, we have already changed the political landscape of America. TEA PARTY PATRIOTS IS 100% GRASSROOTS, 100% OF THE TIME. Tea Party Patriots is made up of, and funded by, millions of regular Americans just like you, who believe there is a better way forward for America. We are a non-profit 501(c)(4) organization that does not support any political party nor do we endorse candidates. If you support fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government, and free market economic policies, we encourage you to sign up for Tea Party Patriots today. 2. Americans for Prosperity (AFP) http://americansforprosperity.org/ Dot's note ► Great organization, super info. they sponsor/organize many events in the area and DC. Jennifer Stefano is the PA State Director. You've most likely seen her on Fox News Channel. From the web site: OUR MISSIONS Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is committed to educating citizens about economic policy and mobilizing those citizens as advocates in the public policy process. AFP is an organization of grassroots leaders who engage citizens in the name of limited government and free markets on the local, state, and federal levels. AFP grassroots activists advocate for public policies that champion the principles of entrepreneurship and fiscal and regulatory restraint. To that end, AFP supports: Cutting taxes and government spending in order to halt the encroachment of government in the economic lives of citizens by fighting proposed tax increases and pointing out evidence of waste, fraud, and abuse. Removing unnecessary barriers to entrepreneurship and opportunity by sparking citizen involvement early in the regulatory process in order to reduce red tape. Restoring fairness to our judicial system. WHO WE ARE The heart and soul of AFP is our citizen activists. They organize events, write letters to the editor, and petition their lawmakers to uphold freedom and prosperity. Americans for Prosperity has more than 1,800,000 activists in all 50 states and 34 state chapters and affiliates. More than 90,000 Americans in all 50 states have made a financial contribution to AFP or our sister organization, AFP Foundation. WHAT WE DO AFP's network of organized and influential citizen leaders in a growing number of states throughout the country is working to change the nation one state at a time. AFP mobilizes citizens to effectively make their voices heard in public policy issue campaigns. AFP educates citizens about where their elected officials stand on our issues. AFP combines "best-in-class" capabilities built once at the national level with local knowledge from our state staff and on-the-ground grassroots to create economies of scale that win. AFP leverages our comparative advantages with those of other groups by building coalitions of local, state, and national grassroots organizations fighting for a common cause. 3. Freedom Connecter http://connect.freedomworks.org/ Dot's note ► A great site to connect with others. Register, then browse for folks who are near your residence or elsewhere who share your views. I have connections in CA, NY, NC, AL, TX, MO and FL. 4. FreedomWorks for America (FWFA) https://www.freedomworksforamerica.org/ From the web site: FreedomWorks for America (FWFA) is focused on spearheading bottom-up grassroots campaigns on behalf of candidates who will promote economic freedom. Unlike other PACs and organizations, FreedomWorks for America will aggressively support candidates who will defend freedom, even in political primaries against establishment or incumbent Republicans. And instead of spending funds on traditional methods like TV and radio advertisements, our financial resources will primarily be spent mobilizing our over a million-strong volunteer base to promote candidates who are champions of freedom. We are the only group with the grassroots base and the campaign expertise to make a real impact on the ground in races across the country. WHAT WE DO FreedomWorks for America utilizes its over a million-strong grassroots volunteer base to elect candidates who fight for lower taxes, less government, and more freedom. WHY WE DO IT FreedomWorks for America believes individual liberty and the freedom to compete increases consumer choices and provides individuals with the greatest control over what they own and earn. FreedomWorks for America aims to elect real champions of freedom who will stand up for these principles in the face of Washington establishment pressure, and who will be standard bearers for the grassroots to rally behind. HOW WE DO IT FreedomWorks for America's aggressive, real-time campaigns activate a growing and permanent volunteer grassroots army to show up and demand that our elected officials stand up for freedom. Our decentralized approach means that we have the capability to directly impact elections across the country through citizen action on the local level. 5. Awareness about Agenda 21 is finally spreading throughout the country, due in no small part to your efforts. But knowing it is there isn't enough. Now we need to educate ourselves on how to combat it. That's where you come in.
American Policy Center has recently released a booklet that explains everything you need to know to start fighting back against sustainable programs both locally and nationally. The booklet is called Special Report: Agenda 21 and How to Stop It and is available in the APC store for only $5.95.
I wrote this 35 page booklet in order to give activists a succinct resource they can refer to if they suspect Agenda 21 or Sustainable Development is being implemented in their area. It includes my own research coupled with incredibly helpful graphics created by Carroll County, Maryland Commissioner Richard Rothschild.
In the booklet you will find answers to several roadblocks that grassroots anti-Agenda 21 activists often face, including a definition of property rights and "Resolution to Protect Citizens' Property Rights," which many concerned citizens are already using to tie the hands of power hungry politicians.
This booklet is a great resource for anyone interested in preserving their property rights. It includes all the information to put up a first line of defense and step by step instructions for how to proceed from there. If you face Agenda 21 or Sustainable development in your area or are simply concerned with the national fight this booklet is a must read.
Click here to order your booklet now!
In Liberty,

Tom DeWeese President - American Policy Center
P.S. - The American Policy Center store has recently updated our inventory to include everything you need to fight back against Agenda 21. The revamped catalogue includes the "Stop Agenda 21 Action Kit", which provides users with everything they need to know about Agenda 21 in their own living room, as well as ways to share it with other concerned activists and critical knowledge on how to fight back. The store also offers DVDs of past successful conferences and symposiums, books and articles that deal with the issues of sustainability and Agenda 21 and individually packaged manuals and workbooks to aid you in your activism. You don't need to look any farther than the American Policy Center Store for everything you need to combat Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development in your area.

For most of human history the family was the basic social unit of the species. Family was a way of passing down genes, beliefs and wealth. It was a retirement plan that you paid into by keeping your children alive long enough for them to grow up and support you. It allowed the individual to pass on his ideas to people who would care about them because they were part of their heritage. Family was a collective endeavor, small enough to reflect the individual. It was a practical and philosophical aim that made life beautiful and meaningful. But who really needs it anymore? The basic practical functions of the family have been replaced by the nanny state. It is the nanny that takes over the care and teaching of the child as soon as possible. And when their parents grow old, it is that same nanny that oversees their care and death. Governments have come to serve as undying guardians of human society, ushering new life into the world and ushering old life out of it. New parents are as likely to turn to the government for help as they are to their extended family. When their child is old enough to look around for a career, it is the government that they expect to provide the education and the jobs. And when they grow old, the child can keep on working at his government job and paying off his student loans knowing that the government will be there to make all the difficult and expensive decisions about their care. With all that taken care of, who needs parents or children anyway? People once had children to pass on wealth, genes and beliefs. But wealth is now thought to be the collective property of society, which is taxed to death or often just given away on some quixotic quest to stamp out disease in Africa or illiteracy in Antarctica. The thought of passing on genes carries with it a tinge of racism for the European and European-descended populations whose birth rates are dropping, but raises no such concerns for minority groups with high birth rates. That only leaves beliefs, which are also thought to be the collective property of the society and the state. Public education, mandatory in some countries, means that the best way to reproduce your beliefs is not to have children, but to get a job as a teacher. The family has been displaced and replaced. In some places it is even repressed. Like an old station wagon, it idles by the side of the road, while its former owners drive away in their new sleek electric government compact car built for two or a micro-car built for one into a wonderful childless future of unfunded pensions, social collapse and death panels.

RedState Morning Briefing
For February 21, 2013
1. I Am Very Disappointed in Governor Rick Scott
I was one of the few national conservatives to support Governor Scott in 2010 during his primary. He is a fundamentally great person. I really like him. He has been a friend to this site.
But I am terribly disappointed in his decision to expand Medicaid in Florida.
As one of the chief opponents of Obamacare and, before it, Hillarycare, Governor Scott knows this is not the right thing to do. I would like to blame the staff around him, but the ultimate decision was his to make and he made it.
The long term ramifications for Florida will be bad. The federal flow of dollars will not last and Florida will have to make up more and more funding. This decision will, long term, seriously harm Florida and make it less and less competitive.
Governor Scott is interested in getting re-elected and has terrible poll numbers. No doubt part of this decision has to do with his wanting to get re-elected.
When politicians do what they feel they must to get re-elected instead of doing what they know is right, they often lose re-election and, even when they do not, lose their way.
It is a sad day for conservatives.
Rick Perry and Bobby Jindal, who have competed with Scott and Florida on attracting business and growing their states economy should be on notice. They should not follow Rick Scott's lead. They should not expand Medicare in their states. The money will not be there forever. Might as well let Florida roll that rock up the hill and take advantage of Governor Scott's terrible mistake.
It is worth pointing out that before making this decision Governor Scott was able to extract a few concessions from the Obama Administration. HHS is going to allow Scott to privatize Medicaid coverage, which is actually a huge deal and Scott will only do this for three years in a trial run, that he may then end after that time and before federal funding drops.
That last bit, however, could potentially turn his re-election campaign into a referendum on the expansion of Medicaid with Charlie Crist arguing that Scott was only punting a rejection of expansion until the second term and Crist would guarantee the expansion stays. Not sure how well that would play out, but it could be dicey
2. Why Are We Not Talking About America's $123 Trillion In Unfunded Liabilities?
Most Americans know that our nation is spending more than it is taking in (the deficit). Though many on the Left do not seem to understand (or care about) the consequences of out of control spending, most Americans do know that the nation has America has over $16.5 trillion in debt-or, nearly $53,000 of debt for every man, woman and child.
While $16.5 trillion of debt is clearly unsustainable, what is even more alarming is what we are not talking about: The fact that, in addition to the $16.5 trillion of debt we currently have, every man, woman, and child in America also is on the hook for nearly $400,000 in unfunded liabilities-or, over $1 million for every household. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3. Obama's Cowardly Mendacity Over Sequestration
In August 2011, Obama hatched a deal to grant himself a free $2.1 trillion increase in debt, which would take him past the 2012 elections, thereby sparing him the embarrassment of another debt limit request during the campaign season. He knew that such a request was so bold it needed to be ensconced in a deal that would give voters the impression he was committed to cutting spending. To that end, the Budget Control Act called for the creation of a super committee to identify $1.2 trillion in baseline cuts and tax increases. Given that the committee would be evenly split between Republicans and Democrats, Obama knew that this would trigger the sequestration. And that is exactly what he wanted. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

Oppose Hagel's Nomination
|
Defending America is a serious matter, which is why we need a competent individual at the helm of the Defense Department. The next U.S. Secretary of Defense should certainly not be someone who has sent "the worst possible signal to our enemies." Chuck Hagel's quiet incompetence that makes him unfit to lead America's armed forces.
>> Oppose Hagel's Nomination: tell your Senators now.
After blocking his confirmation last week, several Republican senators are now open to allowing Hagel's confirmation to move forward. One such senator is Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who previously said "the sum total of all [Hagel's] votes" and statements were reason enough to disqualify Hagel from being confirmed. Now, after Hagel apologized for a comment he doesn't remember making, Graham is willing to see Hagel confirmed. Senator John McCain (R-A) is in a similar position.
Additional Republican senators may succumb to coercion and pressure from President Obama to nominate this grossly under-qualified nominee.
>> Call your Senators and tell them to oppose Chuck Hagel's nomination now.
Senators should take their constitutional obligation of "advice and consent" seriously. It would be a mistake to allow Washington politics and Senate handwringing to distract from Hagel's inability to lead America's armed forces.
Sincerely,

Russ Vought Political Director Heritage Action for America

Top 3 Reasons Chuck Hagel Is Wrong for Secretary of Defense
President Obama's pick as the next Secretary of Defense is the wrong one. Heritage's defense and foreign policy experts have examined the record of Chuck Hagel, the Republican former Senator from Nebraska, and concluded he simply does not have the experience and skills for the job. What's more, his vision for dealing with other nations is dangerous for America. Here are the top three reasons Hagel is wrong for the job. 1. Hagel does not have the executive and managerial experience to lead a department as large and complex as the Pentagon. James Jay Carafano, Heritage's vice president for foreign policy, explained:
The Secretary must be a consummate leader, manager, and multi-tasker. Hagel's resume betrays a lack of executive experience, and his inability to perform under pressure was on prominent display in his hearing...His Senate career evidenced a conspicuous lack of key leadership/executive skills. He simply is ill-qualified for this job. His laudable service as a young sergeant in Vietnam neither exempts him from criticism nor gives him a pass on his lack of skills. We have hundreds of thousands of honorable veterans who are not qualified to be Secretary of Defense, and Hagel is one of them.
2. He embraces dangerously naïve policies such as "nuclear zero," the dream of a world without nuclear weapons. Hagel was actually a co-author of the Global Zero report, which recommended that "All U.S. tactical nuclear weapons would be eliminated over the next ten years." During his confirmation hearing, he tried to walk back his position, insisting that he was not for unilateral disarmament. Heritage's Michaela Bendikova pointed out his inconsistency and denial of the Global Zero position. 3. He advocates talking to America's enemies and beating up on our friends. It's worth asking: Why does Iran endorse Chuck Hagel? Hagel has advocated more talks with hostile nations such as Syria and Iran, the latter of which recently rejected outright any idea of bilateral talks with the Obama Administration. Meanwhile, Hagel appears never to have missed an opportunity to beat up on Israel, one of the strongest allies of the United States. As Heritage's Steven Bucci, director of the Douglas and Sarah Allison Center for Foreign Policy Studies, has explained:
Hagel has called repeatedly for better relations with Iran, the worst state sponsor of terrorism in history. In several past speeches (some not provided to the Senate Armed Services Committee), Hagel was open about the "need" to reach out to and have a normal relationship with Iran. He makes it appear as if the differences we have with Tehran-which supplied military-grade weapons to our enemies in Iraq specifically designed to kill Americans-are somehow our fault.
The Senate failed to advance Hagel's nomination last week, but some Senators tried to use the vote as a political bargaining chip to pressure the Obama Administration for answers on the terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya. The next vote could come as soon as Tuesday. After Hagel's unsettling performance in his confirmation hearing, some Senators wanted more information, including financial records and speeches given by Hagel. But the evidence on display is clear. As Carafano said, "What hangs in the balance of this nomination is the security of our nation. It is a job that requires a proven leader with executive experience and a sound understanding of global threats and workable defense policy. We can and must do better than Chuck Hagel." Helle Dale, Heritage's Senior Fellow for Public Diplomacy, contributed to this article.

Last week, the Senate decided to temporarily refrain from advancing former Sen. Chuck Hagel's nomination to be Secretary of Defense. There were many reasons why the Senate did not advance his nomination, The Heritage Foundation's expert James Carafano explains:
|
Simply put, Senator Hagel lacks the necessary executive skills and experience, embraces naïve and dangerous foreign policies, and empathizes with sworn foes, all while showing antipathy toward loyal allies (i.e. Israel). This makes him manifestly unsuitable for this critical position.
|
| |
The decision not to advance Hagel was a good one for the country-but was it done to stir President Obama, or as a serious inquiry into Hagel's competence? Some in the Senate just wanted to make a point to the Obama administration, and say Hagel is likely to be confirmed shortly.
Some Senators voted against Hagel as a way of pressuring the Obama administration to answer many troubling questions about the terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya. Carafano reminds us, though, that there's more at stake than politics: "Certainly the Senate and the American people deserve to know what happened in Benghazi and why. But that knowledge should not be purchased at the price of installing an unsuitable candidate as the Secretary of Defense."
Do you believe the Senate should confirm Chuck Hagel? Tell us in the comments.
Only nine days remain until the $85 billion sequestration cuts take effect. They are unfocused and sweeping. But they are law.
The Heritage Foundation's Amy Payne explains that, while not ideal, the sequestration cuts have to go through. Any step toward serious spending cuts should be applauded, and future budget deals definitely should not involve tax increases.
The key weakness of sequestration is that it focuses on the wrong problem. It targets national security and defense programs and leaves broadly untouched entitlement programs like welfare and food stamps. Leaving our nation open to attack is a "fool's errand," Payne says.
America needs a balanced budget, one that avoids tax increases. But President Obama has already pocketed a $618 billion tax increase and his response to sequestration is to call for a balanced approach. Lawmakers should remember that when President Obama uses the word "balanced," what he really means is more tax increases.
How would you balance the budget?

The disturbing pattern: Obama rids America's military of yet another top general
By ANDREW MALCOLM
It's a developing pattern of this Obama White House.
Barack Obama cashiered yet another battle-seasoned American general Tuesday, even as the war in Afghanistan continues along with numerous other serious global threats to United States security.
This is the fourth senior officer Obama has forced from the country's service.
All four were tied somehow to the Afghanistan mess that Obama has long argued was the most important war. Each departure was staged as a resignation. They were usually tied to some personal indiscretions to save face for Obama, who would know of indiscretions as a product of the corrupt Chicago Democrat machine.

Liberty News- Norvell Rose on the Wild west gun rights battle in Colorado.
Is it just all talk? Nope. In fact, Colorado House Democrats just passed a plethora of anti-2nd Amendment laws that would make Illinois and New York lawmakers sick with envy. Get a load of the measures that made it through the CO House this morning.
House Bill 1224 - Bans magazines with a capacity greater than fifteen rounds. (Passed 34-31)
House Bill 1226 - Repeals current law allowing individuals with a concealed carry permit to carry a firearm for self-defense on a college or university campus. (Passed 34-31)
House Bill 1228 - Imposes a "gun tax" for a background check when purchasing a firearm. (Passed 33-32)
House Bill 1229 - Criminalizes the private transfer of a firearm. (Passed 36-29)
Unbelievable. Not only do these thugs wish to create massive barriers to rights guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment, they want to make criminals out of law-abiding citizens for a simple private transfer!

Breaking News - U.S. Federal Court Hits President Barack Hussein Obama with three charges of abuse of office
Tuesday, February 19, 2013
U.S. Federal Court hits President Barack Hussein Obama with three charges of abuse of office. The charges present...ed are detailed and damning. The indictments assert that President Obama "acted as a dictator" to exceed his powers of office to appoint officials behind the back of Congress during a recess period.
Via: Diana Nottingham In a staggering announcement an Associated Press report declared: "President Barack Obama violated the Constitution when he bypassed the Senate last year to appoint three members of the National Labor Relations Board, a federal appeals court ruled Friday."
Mr. Lyndon Larouche, a well-connected journalist and political activist characterized the court's assessment as "probably the greatest indictment ever seen on a standing president throughout history." White House press secretary Jay Carney reacted strongly against the charges declaring, "we believe that the president's recess appointments are constitutionally sound." However, the federal court seems to disagree having put in place " a list of charges presented as conclusions" according to Larouche.
The court appears to take the view that no such recess was in place. As such, the president was in violation of Section 5 of Article 1 of the Constitution that stipulates that a president cannot make appointments without the consent of the Senate. The failed Obama gambit had hoped to apply the section of the Constitution that reads: "The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session."
The Washington Post reports on the seriousness of this abuse of office, "is more than an unconstitutional attempt to circumvent the Senate's advise-and-consent role. It is a breathtaking violation of the separation of powers and the duty of comity that the executive owes to Congress." Crucially, no other president in history has ever tried to force through such alleged " recess appointments" while Congress is still in session.

Hysterics Over 'Cuts'
February 20, 2013
The Foundation
"We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt." --Thomas Jefferson
Editorial Exegesis

"During the summer 2011 debt ceiling battle, President Obama's White House came up with the idea of sequestration. It is a mechanism designed to trigger automatic spending cuts in the event that a congressional 'super committee' couldn't agree to at least $1.2 trillion in deficit reduction. Congress passed the White House proposal, and Obama signed it into law. And in November 2011, Obama vowed, 'I will veto any effort to get rid of those automatic spending cuts to domestic and defense spending. There will be no easy offramps on this one.' How times have changed. With the automatic spending cuts scheduled to go into effect March 1, it's now Obama who is imploring Congress to undo them. As is his wont, he's resorting to demagoguery to make his case. Surrounding himself with first responders during a speech on Tuesday, Obama predicted a virtual apocalypse if the cuts he once supported now go into effect. 'Emergency responders like the ones who are here today -- their ability to help communities respond to and recover from disasters will be degraded,' he said. 'Border Patrol agents will see their hours reduced. FBI agents will be furloughed. Federal prosecutors will have to close cases and let criminals go. Air traffic controllers and airport security will see cutbacks, which means more delays at airports across the country. Thousands of teachers and educators will be laid off. Tens of thousands of parents will have to scramble to find child care for their kids. Hundreds of thousands of Americans will lose access to primary care and preventive care like flu vaccinations and cancer screenings.' ... Over a decade, the $1.2 trillion in scheduled cuts are barely more than a rounding error when compared with the $48 trillion the federal government would otherwise spend, according to the Congressional Budget Office. To say the sequester will not be painful for many would be untrue. But if Obama wants to preserve his credibility, he should probably stifle the Chicken Little routine. The historical and continued growth in government spending will not even stop to take a breath, because the 'cuts' in spending are actually just reductions in the projected growth of government spending. ... If Obama can't manage an ever-growing budget like this one without turning criminals loose on the population, then perhaps he's out of his league serving as president." --The Washington Examiner

Hagel 2007: U.S. Acting Like 'Schoolyard Bully'; '08 Candidates Too Hard on Iran |
|
by Joel B Pollak
In a Nov. 8, 2007 speech to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, then-Sen. Chuck Hagel likened the U.S. to a "schoolyard bully," adding that none of the presidential candidates in the 2008 race were "speaking to the great challenges of our time" because they were competing to take a hard line on Iran's nuclear program.
"Rather than acting like a nation riddled with the insecurities of a schoolyard bully, we ought to carry ourselves with the confidence that should come from the dignity of our heritage, the experience of our history and from the strength of our humanity, not from the power of our military," the Secretary of Defense nominee said.

Obama Admits: 'Energy Is Going to Be a Little More Expensive'
by Wynton Hall 19 Feb 2013
During a Friday Google+ hangout session, President Barack Obama conceded that his policies to address climate change will raise energy costs, a fact that could prove uncomfortable for Democrats in areas reliant on fossil fuel power plants:
I have to tell you that there are some Democrats, for example, who represent states or districts that are heavily reliant on old power plants and are more heavily manufacturing based. And the truth is that if you produce power using old power plants, you're going to be emitting more carbon, but, to upgrade those plants means energy is going to be a little more expensive, at least on the front end.
This is not the first time Obama has admitted to supporting price-raising energy policies. In 2008, then-candidate Obama said he was fine with soaring energy prices so long as they helped curb green house gas emissions. "Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket," he said.

They both are obviously enjoying the moment. So far, the water bottle thing hasn't exactly ended Rubio's career, as CNN speculated.

The New Hagelian Dialectic
Posted: 20 Feb 2013 11:20 AM PST
(Steven Hayward)
delivered one of his usual top-spin-heavy counter-intuitive schemes about how the best way to kill immigration reform is . . .
the quick confirmation of Chuck Hagel
. Say what?Actually I understand exactly what he means, and have thought for a while about laying out here a similar theory of my own about inter-party dynamics. Reflecting on the passing of Robert Bork last month prompted this idea. When opposition parties find themselves on the end of a long losing streak they start to get a "back-against-the-wall" feeling that prompts them to decide to find a place to inflict a defeat on the ruling party. In 1987, Democrats dismayed at their long losing streak to Reagan found the Bork nomination a handy place to draw a line and hand Reagan a stinging defeat. It helped-in fact is was indispensible-that the liberal hive went to DefCon1 on Bork, just as conservatives groups will likely be vocal in opposition to a bad immigration reform. (Though "bad immigration reform" is probably a tautology, isn't it?) So, says Mickey, if Hagel sails through, expect the GOP to look elsewhere to deal Obama a defeat:
What might stop amnesty? Well, the House Republicans, of course. Why might they do it? Because they are pissed off after losing a string of fights to Obama over ... Hagel and the sequester and spending and gun control. This thought is grounded in one of two apparent theories of Washington political dynamics. The first, more familiar theory is grounded in competitive sports and war. There's a big battlefield. One side starts racking up victories, it gains ground and "momentum." It's "on a roll," Meanwhile, the other side is "demoralized," in "disarray." After it loses again, it might go into "retreat" and stop offering meaningful resistance. This is the theory Rahm Emanuel was implicitly citing when he argued that small victories, at the beginning of the Obama Presidency, would lay the groundwork for bigger victories. It's the theory the press is alluding to when it says a Hagel defeat, coming so soon after the Susan Rice's withdrawal, would be a crippling setback for Obama. The second theory is based more on hydraulics and human emotions. It argues that Washington wants to be in a sort of equilibrium. Victories don't beget further victories. They beget resentment, which will express itself somehow until equilibrium is restored. If Obama wins the Hagel nomination, that doesn't mean the Republicans are going to leave the field. This isn't American Idol. They aren't going anywhere, at least for two years. They'll filibuster and block until they are appeased either by victories of their own or by concessions.
Now that's a Hagelian dialectic I can understand!

Who's Ruling Whom?
Posted: 20 Feb 2013 11:20 AM PST
(John Hinderaker)
Julius Caesar
In our republican form of government, politicians are not our rulers, they are our employees. That goes, too, for the bureaucrats who staff the many federal agencies. But these days, it seems clear that many politicians, and perhaps even more bureaucrats, have lost track of who is working for whom. To cite just one of many examples, President Obama and Congressional Democrats would not have rammed Obamacare through Congress against the will of most Americans, contrary to the usual rules of the Senate, and without so much as reading the bill, if they took seriously the idea that they are our employees. Worse still is the fact that many Americans have come to share this view of elected leaders and their minions in the bureaucracy as our bosses; our rulers; our benefactors.
John Locke
This is the context in which the current battle over gun rights is being fought. Those who would rule over us find the Second Amendment inconvenient, and therefore are happy to dispense with it, if they can muster the votes. It is noteworthy that the Second Amendment does not create a right to keep and bear arms, it
refers
to a right that it assumes to be pre-existent. The right to keep and bear arms is really the right of self-defense, which John Locke called "the fundamental law of nature." So the current debate over gun control is about much more than guns. It goes to the nature of the relationship between the people and the state: are we free and independent citizens, or are we the grateful subjects of exalted rulers? These are the themes that emerge from the NRA's powerful new ad, "We Are America."
Every day, in a myriad of ways, the Obama administration is striving to make the state bigger and more powerful, and the individual smaller and weaker. The NRA's motto in the current controversy is "Stand and Fight." That exhortation applies to a great deal more than the debate over gun control.
STEVE adds: About John's comment on how our elected officials and bureaucrats forget whom they work for, I recall this passage from Max Weber's "Politics as a Vocation," about a conversation Weber had with American workers in Chicago around 1900:
Scarcely fifteen years ago, when American workers were asked why they allowed themselves to be governed by politicians whom they admitted they despised, the answer was: 'We prefer having people in office whom we can spit upon, rather than a caste of officials who spit upon us, as is the case with you.' This was the old point of view of American 'democracy.'
And a good one it was, too.

Top Democratic strategist: GOP establishment thinking about the hispanic vote is "juvenile"
Posted: 20 Feb 2013 10:35 AM PST
(Paul Mirengoff)
It must be fun being David Plouffe. Not only do you get to run rings around Republicans during election season, but you get to watch the Republican "brain trust" learn the wrong lessons from defeat, thereby improving the odds that your party will continue to run circles around the GOP.
For example, many Republicans believe that the key to winning the Hispanic vote is caving on immigration reform (thereby allowing many millions of illegal aliens eventually to vote). Many also seem to think that Marco Rubio can salvage the GOP's image with Hispanic voters.
Plouffe makes short work of both delusions. On immigration reform:
The bigger problem [Republicans have] with Latinos isn't immigration. It's their economic policies and health care. The group that supported the president's health care bill the most? Latinos.
On Rubio:
The Hispanic voters in Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico don't give a damn about Marco Rubio, the Tea Party Cuban-American from Florida. You know what? We won the Cuban vote! And it's because younger Cubans are behaving differently than their parents. It's probably my favorite stat of the whole campaign. So this notion that Marco Rubio is going to heal their problems - it's not even sophomoric; it's juvenile!
Given Plouffe's track record, these views should be taken much more seriously than the romantic view of the Republican establishment that Hispanics are just waiting to vote Republican if only the party would yield immigration reform and parade Marco Rubio and a few other Hispanic politicians more. To call the current wishful thinking of the Republican establishment thinking on the subject "juvenile" is probably to be kind.

The "rush to injustice" against Joe Paterno
Posted: 20 Feb 2013 09:25 AM PST
(Paul Mirengoff)
Last summer, I posted with approval a critique of the report by Louis Freeh regarding Penn State's actions related to the sexual abuse committed by former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. The critique was written by a friend of mine - a top-notch lawyer and former federal prosecutor. Our conclusion was that the Freeh report is badly flawed and that the case against Joe Paterno is weak to non-existent on the current record.
Last week, the law firm of King & Spalding issued a critique of the Freeh report. The authors are former Attorney General Richard Thornburgh; Jim Clemente, a former FBI profiler and prosecutor, and an expert in chlld sex crimes; and Fred Berlin, a physician, psychiatrist and psychologist at Johns Hopkins, and an expert in public health approaches to child sex abuse.
The report concludes:
[T]he Freeh report reflects an improper "rush to injustice." There is no evidence that Joe Paterno deliberately covered up known incidents of child molestation by Jerry Sandusky to protect Penn State football or for any other reason; the contrary statements in the Freeh report are unsupported and unworthy of belief. . . . [T]here is no reason to believe that Joe Paterno understood the threat posed by Jerry Sandusky better than qualified child welfare and law enforcement professionals. There is no evidence that Joe Paterno conspired with Penn State officials to suppress information because of publicity concerns. And Joe Paterno's testimony before the grand jury in 2011 was truthful. . . . [T]he full story behind the tragic events involving Jerry Sandusky is not the one told by the Freeh report.
The King & Spalding report won't reverse the "rush to injustice" it describes. Sports journalists are oh so comfortable with, and indeed invested in, the easy narrative that Joe Paterno turned out to have feet of clay, the result of his (alleged) absolute power at Penn State. It's a morality tale that's "too good to check," and certainly one that can't be overcome by a report paid for by the Paterno family.
Would distinguished lawyers like Thornburgh and Clemente (neither of whom I know personally) consciously or unconsciously shape their findings to please the parties who are paying them? I don't know.
But in this case, their integrity wasn't put to much of a test. In my view, largely for the reasons set forth in my original post, the Freeh report is so weak that no careful, intelligent reader would put stock in its conclusions pertaining to Joe Paterno.

A news story was released stating that a number of gun manufacturers around the country will no longer sell to Law Enforcement officers or government agencies within the states that have the most stringent weapons restrictions against their citizen's rights to own similar weapons. (1)
I was reading this story, as well the comments. This was my answer to one particular comment, whose author was worried about "Law Enforcement" officers and officials being punished for the decisions of various government toadies.
This country has gone to hell since our local police were turned from "Peace Officers" into "Law Enforcement Officers". We no longer have a police force concerned about the local citizenry, we have a roving occupying force of heavily armed tax collectors on constant alert for our wallets and freedoms.

Sears/Kmart's pitiful response to Christians
Sears says anti-Christian bigotry is not their idea; but they pay to help spread it
February 20, 2013
Christians are getting the cold shoulder from Sears and Kmart (both owned by Sears Holdings) after asking the company to pull funding from NBC's "Saturday Night Live" program.
Last Saturday night, the network aired a violent and gory segment mocking Jesus Christ (see earlier alert here). Thanks to the funding by Sears and Kmart, NBC publicly painted Jesus as a vengeful murderer bent on killing the Romans who crucified Him.
Sears/Kmart offers only a tepid and unfeeling response on its Facebook page by saying, "We didn't intentionally run the ad adjacent to the skit. The show is responsible for the content; it doesn't reflect our views."
Here's the rub:
* Sears/Kmart refuses to apologize for offending Christians by sponsoring the segment. * Sears/Kmart will not promise to pull funding from Saturday Night Live, which has a long history of attacking the Christian faith. * Had it been a segment demeaning Islam, you can be sure Sears/Kmart would have publicly condemned the segment and pulled all support immediately.
Ironically, Sears' Facebook page contains dozens of apologies to customers for poor customer service or faulty products. But there is not a single apology to the hundreds of Christians who contacted them about their advertising.
TAKE ACTION
Sears/Kmart doesn't get it. Will you help them understand that attacking the Christian faith is not a good business model?
1. Call Sears corporate headquarters at 847-286-2500 and let them know you are offended by their tepid response to the Christian community. Ask them to apologize for funding attacks on Christianity and to pull all funding from NBC's "Saturday Night Live."
2. Visit Sears' Facebook page and leave this comment:
I am offended by Sears/Kmart's funding of the anti-Christian segment on NBC's "Saturday Night Live." Christians deserve an apology from the company, along with a commitment to pull all funding from this program going forward.
3. Post this to your Twitter account: @Sears Christians deserve an apology from Sears for sponsoring anti-Christian bigotry http://action.afa.net/Detail.aspx?id=2147532531 #Sears
Sears/Kmart needs to hear from you today. Please make your voice heard.

Long Lines to Vote? Not for the Vast Majority of Americans
It certainly is heartwarming that Desiline Victor, the 102-year-old voter whom President Barack Obama recognized in his State of the Union speech, continues to vote and take part in our democratic process. We wish that more Americans had her sense of civic duty. The President announced a "nonpartisan" commission led by two campaign lawyers "to improve the voting experience in America" because no one should have to wait in line for "five, six, seven hours just to cast their ballot." No one disagrees with that sentiment, but the President used Ms. Victor to build a false narrative because she supposedly had to wait in line for more than three hours to vote. What the President neglected to say was that she waited in line for three hours not on Election Day but on the first day of early voting in Miami-Dade County where she lives. On Election Day, when the majority of people vote, Miami-Dade had 829 polling places open, but only 20 were open prior to Election Day. Early voting is a convenience, not a right, and a relatively new phenomenon. It is meant for those who for some legitimate reason cannot vote on Election Day. Voters in that position also have the option in every state to vote by absentee ballot, something that does not require waiting in line at all. States and localities like Miami-Dade do not have the resources and the manpower to open 829 polling places for weeks before Election Day, and it would be a waste of taxpayer money to do so. There were reports on Election Day of long lines in some isolated locations around the country. But the average wait time in America was only 14 minutes.
According to an MIT study, those in populous areas had longer wait times than those living in areas with fewer voters. Even The New York Times was forced to admit that "lines were longest in cities." Those large urban areas are almost exclusively under the control of the President's own party, whose local officials make the decisions about precinct size, voting equipment, and the number of poll workers.
These factors, along with ballot length and turnout, determine the wait time for voting. The longer wait in urban areas obviously did not prevent the President from winning and Democrats from doing well across the board. The Pew Research Center reported that "blacks voted at a higher rate this year than other minority groups and for the first time in history may also have voted at a higher rate than whites." We don't need a federal commission to study a nonexistent problem. Election officials across the country-no matter what party-will tell you that finding Americans willing to work as poll officials on Election Day is their most recurring problem.
The most effective thing the President could do is to encourage Americans to take time off from their busy lives and volunteer to work in their precincts on Election Day.

| A Simple and Wrong Answer to Poverty: Increasing the Minimum Wage
During his State of the Union address, President Obama proposed fighting poverty by raising the minimum wage. It sounds appealing but it will not work. Labor economists have repeatedly studied the effects of minimum wage increases. They find no correlation between higher minimum wages and lower poverty. Raising the minimum wage to $9 an hour as the President suggests simply would not reduce poverty.
