WikiLeaks: Bin Laden's Body Not Buried At Sea
Posted onFebruary 12, 2013byConservative Byte
The body of Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden was not buried at sea, according to leaked emails of intelligence firm Stratfor, as revealed by WikiLeaks.
Stratfor's vice-president for intelligence, Fred Burton, believes the body was "bound for Dover, [Delaware] on [a] CIA plane" and then "onward to the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Bethesda [Maryland]," an email says.
The official version is that the body of Al-Qaeda's top man, who was killed by a US raid in Pakistan on May 2, 2011, was buried at an undisclosed location at sea in a proper Muslim ceremony.
"If body dumped at sea, which I doubt, the touch is very Adolph Eichman like. The Tribe did the same thing with the Nazi's ashes," Burton commented in another email. Eichman was one of the masterminds of the Holocaust by Nazi Germany. He was captured by Mossad agents in Argentina and, tried in Israel, found guilty and executed in 1962. His body was cremated and his ashes were scattered at sea over the Mediterranean.
Rumor Check: Ex-FBI Agent Claims Obama's CIA Nominee Is Really a Secret Muslim Recruited by Saudis
Feb. 11, 2013
Did President Obama nominate an Islamic convert with a decades old connection to the most anti-American variant of that religion to a post no less potent than the director of the CIA?
That is the hot charge against John Brennan that gained rapid viral traction over the weekend because of comments made by an ex-FBI agent known for his efforts to expose radical Islamists.
John Guandolo first made the accusation during a recent radio interview. Today he repeated the charge during an interview with TheBlaze in which we pressed him to provide details that might substantiate his case.
There is a lot to sort through here, and as is often the case when viral charges start to spread, readers would be wise to keep an eye out for as many hard facts as possible.
Let's start with the radio interview that triggered the current viral wave. Guandolo made a third party accusation during a Friday interview with the famously anti-Muslim talk show host Tom Trento. The entire interview can be viewed here:
AP Fact Check: Obama Overreaches in State of the Union Speech
The Blaze | Jason Howerton | Feb. 12, 2013 10:51pm
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama did some cherry-picking Tuesday night in defense of his record on jobs and laid out a conditional path to citizenship for illegal immigrants that may be less onerous than he made it sound.
A look at some of the claims in his State of the Union speech, a glance at the Republican counterargument and how they fit with the facts:
OBAMA: "After years of grueling recession, our businesses have created over 6 million new jobs."
"This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration.
Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient,
and the world will follow our lead into the future!"

Metcalfe Seeks to Make Federal Gun-Grabbing A Criminal Offense in Pennsylvania
HARRISBURG - State Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) today announced his legislation that would make any new federal gun control laws unenforceable within the Commonwealth.
"Passage of my legislation will send the message that there will never be additional gun control, anywhere in Pennsylvania," said Metcalfe. "Whether by White House executive orders, congressional fiat, or judicial activism, we will never allow the left to benefit from the wicked acts of murderers in order advance their senseless gun-grabbing agenda which would only succeed in replacing one of our most sacred personal liberties with the chains of government tyranny."
Similar to legislation most recently introduced in Wyoming and Texas, Metcalfe's Right to Bear Arms Protection Act (House Bill 357) would:
Prohibit enforcement of any new federal registration, restriction or prohibition requirement for privately owned firearms, magazines and ammunition.
Require the state of Pennsylvania, including the Office of Attorney General, to intercede on behalf of Commonwealth citizens against any federal attempt to register, restrict or ban the purchase or ownership of firearms and firearms accessories which are currently legal products.
Final enactment of Metcalfe's Right to Bear Arms Protection Act would mean that anyone - even federal agents - who try to enforce any type of gun control restriction within state borders would face arrest and being charged with a felony offense.
"The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned," said Metcalfe. "Article 1, Section 21 of the Pennsylvania Constitution makes it crystal clear that no level of government, especially the federal government, has any authority whatsoever to impose senseless restrictions on law-abiding firearms owners, or worse, the confiscation of legally owned firearms. The purpose of my legislation is to force any gun-grabbing federal official to count the costs of unconstitutionally disarming or denying Pennsylvania citizens their God-given right to keep and bear arms."
Metcalfe is also calling on all Pennsylvania citizens who support Constitutional liberty to attend Pennsylvania's annual Second Amendment Action Day on Tuesday, April 23, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the State Capitol Rotunda, and to sign the all-new Armed Pennsylvania: Say to No Gun Control petition by visiting RepMetcalfe.com.

Hello Patriots on this Day!
We need to make daily calls to Washington to stop infringement on our 2nd Amendment rights!!
February 15 - March 27, 2013 - Debt Ceiling: Sometime in this date range we are expected to reach the debt ceiling (Technically we have already hit the debt ceiling, but this is the date range when we will reach a point where the Treasury can no longer implement "extraordinary measures" to meet our spending obligations.
February 28, 2013 - Sequestration: The "fiscal cliff" bill created a new manufactured crisis that will happen sometime at the end of February. This is when the sequestration can was kicked down the road.
March 31, 2013 - Continuing Resolution: The current Continuing Resolution that the government is operating under expires on March 31. This means that they will have to pass a CR between now and then.
April 15, 2013 - Budget Resolution: This is the date by law in which both Houses should have a budget resolution passed. We are already hearing that the President is late in submitting his budget, the House is reporting that they will not meet their deadline for a budget, and the Senate... well they haven't passed a budget in over 1,350 days.
Any questions, holler.

We also offer again this year special benefits for Patriot Eagle and Patriot sponsors.
We have some exciting new wrinkles planned for this year's event, and our list of confirmed speakers already includes:

John Guandolo - Former FBI agent and one of America's leading authorities on the Muslim Brotherhood and its inner workings in America. Guandolo spoke at our conference in 2011 and received rave reviews from conference attendees!
Ezra Levant - Canadian lawyer, author, newspaper columnist with Sun Media, and former publisher of the Western Standard. Hauled before a Canadian "human rights commission" because he published the Danish cartoons that satirized Muhammad, Levant's personal account of a politically correct government inquisition is something you won't want to miss!
The National Conference & Legislative Briefing will begin on Wed. evening, June 19th, and conclude on Friday, June 21st at noon, with additional optional training sessions Friday afternoon.

ZOA: Senators Should Vote to Reject Hagel
More Horrific Hagel Statements - Israelis Keep "Palestinians Caged Up Like Animals," Iran Should Not Be Isolated, Supports Fatah/Hamas Merger
The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) has pointed to further, alarming statements made by President Barack Obama's nominee for Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel, and urged senators to vote against confirming him in that office.
The far-left J Street, which present itself as a pro-Israel group, has now released the video of Hagel's speech to its 2009 conference, in which Hagel said that he opposed isolating Iran through diplomacy and sanctions, saying, "How in the world do we think isolating someone is going to bring them around to your way of thinking?"
Hagel also subscribed to the discredited 'linkage' argument, which contends that the Middle East can be greatly tranquilized and U.S. relations with Arab states enhanced if the U.S. pressures Israel into a peace agreement with the Palestinians. Hagel said, "The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is central, not peripheral, to U.S. vital security interests in combating terrorism, preventing an Iranian nuclear weapon, stability in the Middle East and U.S. and global energy security."
Echoing the views of hostile anti-Israel figures Brent Scowcroft and Zbigniew Brzezinski, Hagel suggested imposing a peace agreement on Israel, saying, "I think we are getting close to the time where something has to be laid down here on this."
Hagel also called for a Fatah-Hamas merge, saying, "No peace will be possible nor sustainable as long as the Palestinians remain a house divided." He did not mention any conditions for Hamas
Also, Hagel seemed to refer, like Israel's Arab enemies, to Israel's capital being Tel Aviv, not Jerusalem, when said, "It's always difficult for leaders to step forward, either in Ramallah, Tel Aviv, Riyadh or Cairo." ('Sen. Chuck Hagel at the first J Street Conference,' Youtube, January 29, 2012). Other than Tel Aviv, all the other cities named by Hagel are Arab capitals.
Additionally, a report in the Washington Free Beacon has unearthed a Hagel statement that appeared in a Nebraska newspaper, the Lincoln Journal Star, on January 12, 2003, in which Hagel said that Israel was "keep[ing] Palestinians caged up like animals" ('Hagel in 2003: Israel Keeps "Palestinians Caged Up Like Animals,"' Washington Free Beacon, January 9, 2013).
ZOA National President Morton A. Klein said, "These newly unearthed statements by Hagel simply reinforce the fact that Hagel has a virtually unrivaled record of hostility to Israel, bigotry towards Jews and gays, disbelief in the importance of a strong U.S. military, indulgence of Middle Eastern terrorist groups like Hizballah and Hamas, and antipathy towards any conceivable measure - economic or military - for preventing Iran becoming a nuclear power if negotiations fail.
"These statements afford further reasons for the Senate to vote against confirming Chuck Hagel as Defense Secretary and we urge senators to do so."
Please continue to call both of your U.S. senators and respectfully ask that they oppose the nomination of Chuck Hagel as secretary of defense. Please ask friends, relatives, colleagues and all of your electronic contacts to call as well.
Has Communist Ideology Overtaken America? Education is crucial. Today I want to share two very interesting lists with you, and rather than adding an extensive amount of my commentary, I want to give you the chance to examine the facts for yourself. It is my opinion that many communist goals have already been accomplished. I also believe that advancement has been made in other areas. But, you owe it to yourself to do your own research. I believe not only in the freedom of speech, but also in the responsibility of free thought. So please don't take my word for it. Examine the facts for yourself.
Again, I want to share two lists with you. The first is a list that was entered into 1963 Congressional Record. The second is the 10 planks of The Communist Manifesto.
If you can't see this happening in America, and a ton of progress being made, then I offer two potential explanations:
You are one of the "useful idiots" of communist teaching.
I am one of the "village idiots" that your Mama probably warned you about.
Some of these points will be open for debate and some will not. In some cases it is blatantly obvious that they have achieved their goals. It is even rumored that our own President has deep communist ties. You might want to check that out as well but I will withhold my opinion at this point. Let's just lay it out and you can interpret it.
This list was originally printed in "The Naked Communist" by Cleon Skousen. It was entered into Congressional Record in 1963 as the 45 goals of "The Communist Takeover of America."

Yes, it's true: You can support ACT! for America-at no cost to you!An important message from Guy Rodgers, Executive Director
The next time you make an online purchase of almost anything, you could be helping ACT! for America-at no cost to you.
Sound too good to be true? It isn't.
All you have to do is sign up for "iGive"-a program that's been around since 1997.
The concept is as powerful as it is simple.
Every time an iGive member makes an online purchase at over 1,000 brand-name stores, a percentage of that purchase is donated to that person's charity of choice.
And with the holidays just around the corner, you could be helping ACT! for America with every gift you buy!
The concept isn't new. In the mid-1990s many supporters of non-profit organizations signed up with long distance telephone programs where a percentage of their bill was donated to their charity of choice.
But our investigation of iGive has convinced us that this program has an ease of use and sophistication that we find remarkable.
Imagine booking a hotel room on Orbitz-and having 1.6% of that purchase price donated to ACT! for America.
Or buying an Xbox at Best Buy-and having 1.2% of the purchase price donated to ACT! for America.
The same goes for buying merchandise at Amazon, Bath and Body Works, Advance Auto Parts, Game Stop, Kmart, Home Depot, Holiday Inn, Old Navy, NASCAR Superstore, Overstock.com, Mattel, J.C. Penney, Office Max, QVC, Radio Shack, Shoe Carnival, Pottery Barn-and on and on the list goes.
In other words, every time you make a purchase of merchandise you would buy anyway, you would be financially supporting ACT! for America!
All you have to do is log on below and follow the directions to create your account and download the iGive "button." (Note: downloading the "button" is key).
When I was first informed of iGive, I was skeptical. I've seen these ideas come and go. Often, they're too good to be true. Or there are all kinds of glitches and problems.
So I spent hours researching.
I looked at online customer reviews (which were very good). I read all of iGive's fine print, such as Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. I signed up and even emailed two tech support questions to see how good their tech support was.
And the more I dug, the more I liked what I saw. For instance, both of my tech support questions were responded to within 60 minutes. How often does THAT happen?
As you know from our Patriot Partner program, we're all about encouraging a lot of people to each do a little-to do something. When everyone does a little, together we accomplish a lot.
So consider what could happen.
If just 1% of ACT! for America members each purchased just $400 in merchandise in 2013, from all the available outlets, and the average percentage donated to ACT! was 1.5%, the total amount donated back to ACT! for America would be...
...$15,000. That's a lot of money, wouldn't you agree?
And if you were one of those ACT! for America members, it wouldn't cost you one thin dime to help ACT! for America receive $15,000.
If this idea really caught on, and eventually 5% of our members made purchases with iGive, that $15,000 could explode to $50,000, $75,000 or more!
What's more, that 1.5% figure might be low. Many of the merchants offer percentage donations that are much higher. One printer inkjet company I looked at offered 13%!
Every merchant website you visit tells you right at the top what percentage of your purchase price will be donated to ACT! for America.
Just think what we could accomplish with an extra $15,000, $50,000 or $75,000 in our fight against radical Islam!
One of the things I most wanted to know was their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Check it out for yourself. I confirmed the terms with a company representative. And I like what I learned. As security-conscious as I am, I have no hesitation using the service-and I'm already doing so.
I know there are many people out there who would love to support ACT! for America, or give more than they're giving, but in these tough economic times they simply can't.
Well, here's a way that everyone who believes in our mission can easily support what we're doing-at no cost to them.
It doesn't get any better than that.
There are already chapter leaders who have signed up for the program, and the feedback I have been getting from them has been all positive. They love the idea and many of them are already using it.
So please, join me and these ACT! for America chapter leaders who are already signed up and using the iGive service.
Yours for a safe and free America
Guy Rodgers
Individuals sympathetic to the Muslim Brotherhood's sinister agenda have infiltrated the Obama Administration.
Brainwashed by the Muslim Students Association and then propelled in to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the David Horowitz Freedom Center tracks the path of Huma Abedin and other Muslim sympathizers who have navigated their way into positions of great influence in the Obama Administration. Everything is revealed in the explosive new Freedom Center pamphlet, "The Muslim Brotherhood in the Obama Administration," written by Frank Gaffney, national security expert who served as Assistant Secretary of Defense under Ronald Reagan.
The David Horowitz Freedom Center is committed to educating the public on the Muslim Brotherhood's sinister Agenda. That is why we are giving away this pamphlet for FREE.

Arlington National Cemetery told to recognize 'gay' partners as married
February 11, 2013
Dear ##FirstName[AFA Supporter]##,
Equating homosexual partners to legitimate marriage, a spokesman for Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta said, "Policy for burial at Arlington National Cemetery is under review.." See announcement here.
Among sweeping changes just signed by the departing Panetta are the issuing of military ID cards, which will give same-sex spouses and partners access to on-base commissaries, movie theaters and gyms.
Other changes Panetta is pushing for are prohibited by the Defense Of Marriage Act (DOMA), which Panetta and the Obama administration have asked the Supreme Court to overturn.
This means the military will recognize homosexual lovers as "married" and will give a full slate of benefits, including burial in Arlington National Cemetery.
Panetta, at every turn, has exposed the military to open homosexuality, which presents an unacceptable risk to good order, discipline, morale and unit cohesion - qualities essential for combat readiness.
TAKE ACTION
Send a letter to your members of Congress, letting them know that, on their watch, they have allowed the security of our nation to be endangered by focusing on social experimentation, rather than defense.
Send a letter to your members of Congress now!
It is very important that you forward this alert to your friends and family members.
Sincerely,
Tim Wildmon, President American Family Association
There will be many words from many people about much of the President's State of the Union speech from last night.
I will only focus on one line, which distinctly highlights again just how out to lunch the man is when it comes to real healthcare reforms in this country.
During his speech the President said this:
"We'll bring down costs by changing the way our government pays for Medicare, because our medical bills shouldn't be based on the number of tests ordered or days spent in the hospital - they should be based on the quality of care that our seniors receive."
In other words, we should stop paying for tests based on the number performed and we should stop paying for hospitals based on the number of days in which a patient stays in the hospital. Instead, we should pay based on the quality of care given, which I guess means if suddenly your stool sample turns to gold, we'll charge more.
His approach makes no sense. Healthcare cannot be paid for based on quality of care without introducing subjective standards that will themselves drive up the costs of healthcare. He might as well claim he does not want to pay for healthcare at all or, at best, will cover the costs with unicorn farts.
The President's speech was a defense of big government.
He started his speech referencing John F. Kennedy.
John F. Kennedy said, "ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country."

What's He Hiding?
The Senate Armed Services Committee was scheduled to vote today on Chuck Hagel's nomination to be Secretary of Defense. If his nomination is voted out of committee, some Senate Republicans are signaling that they are prepared to filibuster Hagel's nomination, a move that would require that Hagel receive 60 votes in the Senate to be confirmed. Hagel may not have enough support in the Senate to beat a filibuster.
Hagel still hasn't answered questions about the details of money he received from various groups he worked for. Recent evidence shows that in supporting documents Hagel gave to Senate investigators as part of his confirmation process, Hagel did not disclose at least two speeches he gave in 2008 that focused on the Arab-Israeli conflict.
One of the speeches was delivered to the Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee and the other to Georgetown University's Center for Contemporary Arab Studies. Staffers for members of Congress opposed to Hagel's nomination have also gathered proof that Hagel spoke frequently to pro-Arab audiences in 2007, including one group described by the Investigative Project on Terrorism as "a de facto propaganda arm of the Arab world."
What's Hagel hiding? We can guess. He is far outside of mainstream in the way he looks at the Middle East and Israel. That Hagel is hiding these speeches suggests that his remarks reinforce the growing belief that he is anti-Israel.
Boom!
North Korea conducted its 3rd nuclear weapons test today. I am "counting down" right now to see how long it takes for Obama or the media to suggest that the test is George Bush's fault. When he was president, Bush was regularly blamed by the left for North Korea's aggressive policies. The argument was that Bush had too much of a cowboy foreign policy and did provocative things like referring to North Korea as "evil." Obama took office pledging to play "patty cake" with thug states and kill them with kindness.
It didn't work. It turns out that, under its new leader Kim Jong Eun, North Korea prefers a perpetual state of war. He blamed the test on American aggressiveness.
Bill Kristol at The Weekly Standard suggested, tongue and cheek, that the North Korean blast was an early celebration of Chuck Hagel's confirmation as Secretary of Defense. While the North Koreans build a nuclear arsenal, Hagel (and Obama) want to gut ours. Some U.S. officials believe that the test was not just for North Korea but was also done on behalf of Iran. North Korean technicians are reportedly working at Iranian nuclear facilities.
Someone needs to wake up the president. We now know he slept through Benghazi while four Americans were left to be killed at the hands of jihadists. If he continues to sleep as Iran and North Korea build weapons of mass destruction, more Americans are likely to die.
State Of The Union
If you're going to skip tonight's State of the Union address then here's what I predict you'll miss. You'll miss the president talking about "investments," a poll-tested word for government spending your hard-earned tax dollars.
As always, you'll miss hearing about fairness, a word the president deploys often but employs rarely. Obama's policies have been anything but fair to taxpayers, pro-life business owners, churches and numerous other groups.
You'll miss hearing repeated references to a "balanced approach" on deficit reduction, even though the president just rammed through legislation that was all tax increases and no spending cuts. (In fact, the White House is now suggesting that most of the spending reduction has already been done.)
There will be the typical attacks on the well-off and successful, and demands that tax breaks for the energy industry end. I'll go out on a limb and predict that Obama will say nothing about the billions he's lost "investing" in solar and other alternative energy boondoggles.
There are reports that the president of Apple will be sitting in the gallery with the first lady. Which is odd because Apple has tens of billions of dollars stored away in offshore accounts in order to avoid Obama's taxes, and does the bulk of its manufacturing in places like China-a practice that Obama regularly criticizes and somehow blames the GOP for.
Here are a few things you likely won't hear from Obama tonight:
* That the national debt has increased 60% since Obama took office. * That during Obama's first term, the number of Americans on food stamps increased by 11,133-per day. * That more than 8 million Americans dropped out of the workforce during Obama's first term. * That millions of college grads are loaded with debt and have no job prospects. * That Obamacare's cost estimates are going through the roof.
In short, the State of the Union will be more of what we've come to expect from Obama: deception and divisiveness, with little mention of a plausible plan to get the country moving again. This leads me to think that the most important speech tonight will not be Obama's but Florida Senator Marco Rublio's. Rubio is slated to give the Republican response.
State Of The Union Props
Yesterday, President Obama presented former Army Staff Sergeant Clint Romesha with the Medal of Honor, the U.S. military's highest honor. Romesha was awarded the Medal of Honor for uncommon valor during the Battle of Kamdesh in Afghanistan in 2009.
As is often the case with the bravest of the brave, Romesha was humble as he deflected praise to his fellow soldiers. He also declined an invitation to sit with First Lady Michelle Obama at the State of the Union, saying that he wanted to spend the time with friends and family and celebrate he and his wife's 13th wedding anniversary.
It's a good thing Romesha declined to be a prop for tonight's speech. Three years ago another hero, Kimberly Munley, was an invited guest of the first lady to the State of the Union address. Munley was the police sergeant who, with her partner, stopped the deadly terrorist attack at Fort Hood Army base in Texas.
Now Munley, who was shot three times in the terrorist attack, says she has been "betrayed" by President Obama. With Munley in attendance in 2009, Obama said that all the Fort Hood victims would be well taken care off. Munley told ABC News' Diane Sawyer this week, "Not to the least little bit have the victims been taken care of. In fact, they've been neglected."
Despite ample evidence that the attack was an act of terrorism, Obama's Department of Defense has denied the victims a Purple Heart and is treating the incident as "workplace violence" instead of "combat related" or terrorism. The administration did not want to admit a terrorist attack on their watch. The result is that Munley and dozens of other victims are receiving lower priority access to medical care as veterans.
Brigitte Gabriel speaking at a recent event for ACT! for America
Benghazi and free speech
"But it is vital to recognise that America is a dramatic outlier when it comes to the freedom to express inflammatory, hatemongering, racist speech. In this regard, we are different from virtually every other liberal democracy...
...It will take a bold Supreme Court to change the current interpretation of the First Amendment..."
Nearly 14,000 people have signed our open letter to the U.S. House leadership calling for a select committee to investigate the Benghazi terror attack.
The liberal establishment has finally taken note of the elephant in the Muslim parlor, namely the closing of the Muslim womb. But it does not seem likely that the foreign policy establishment will draw the obvious inference: a society that suddenly stops having children suffers from cultural despair.
It's the first State of the Union address since President Obama defeated Mitt Romney and was sworn in for a second term. If the weeks between the election and inauguration are any indication, Obama is girding for a no-apologies and perhaps no-precedent term as his policy goals are coupled with no fear of a re-election campaign. So what can be expected as Obama stands in the chamber before both houses of Congress tonight?
Close your eyes for a moment and imagine Republicans and Democrats getting along. They'd smile and laugh at each other's jokes and pat each other on the back, and then both parties would disappear into a back room to decide how to spend our money and what new government powers they should have. What a nightmare! We'd be completely defenseless.
JUDEA AND SAMARIA -- The world calls it the West Bank. But the 350,000-plus Israelis living here use the region's biblical name: Judea and Samaria.
According to a recent United Nations report, international law calls for Israel to evacuate all existing settlements and dismantle Jewish communities in the eastern half of Jerusalem.
The U.N. considers all the neighborhoods in Judea and Samaria "illegal" settlements that will one day be included in a Palestinian state.
Global pressure to hand this territory over to the Palestinians is mounting against Israel by the day, including tough words from the Obama administration.
Obama Set To Unilaterally Cut Nuclear Arsenal By One-Third
Barack Obama has indicated that he is willing to sign off on a new internal review of the United States' nuclear weapons strategy and is set to reduce our nuclear arsenal by one-third, which would save billions to both the Pentagon and the Energy Department. According to a report by the Center for Public Integrity, which was issued last Friday, the recommended reductions were included in a draft version of a classified decision compiled by top defense and national security officials in the White House.
The Senate Armed Services Committee voted Tuesday to approve former Sen. Chuck Hagel's nomination as Defense secretary after a lengthy meeting that featured sharp exchanges about compensation the nominee has received for speaking engagements.
The panel's action sends Hagel's nomination to the floor for a vote by the entire Senate this week.
With Democrats poised to ram former Senator Chuck Hagel's nomination through the Senate, despite Hagel's refusal to turn over all relevant financial records and speeches, all eyes should now turn to the Democrats who portray themselves as pro-Israel.
If a Republican president nominated someone as anti-Israel and borderline antisemitic as Hagel to Secretary of Defense--say, Pat Buchanan--the press would rightly have a field day. But when President Barack Obama does so, aided by self-interested politicians who proclaim their abiding belief in the ties between the United States and Israel, the press remains silent.

Conservatives have long been frustrated at Republican politicians' seeming inability to strike back against the Democrats' slurs by making the moral case for freedom. So it is great to see that the Republicans on the Senate Budget Committee are preparing to do just that.
Ranking member Jeff Sessions, who in recent years has emerged as one of the soundest and most important conservatives in Washington, has written a memo to the other Republicans on the committee laying out a strategy in the wake of the Democrats' announcement that finally, after four years, they will grudgingly allow the Senate to adopt a budget. Sessions' memo is reproduced in its entirety below-please do read it all-but I want to highlight these paragraphs, which should be music to the ears of conservatives everywhere:
This week Chairman Murray is holding a hearing entitled "The Impact of Federal Budget Decisions on Families and Communities," in which we expect her to portray the fiscal debate in stark moral terms. She will describe Republicans as the enemy of the working class and the protectors of the rich. We can expect this to be Democrats' theme throughout the budget season. It is the narrative around which President Obama has framed virtually every fiscal debate and his own reelection campaign. He will no doubt repeat this fiction during his State of the Union address. ...
Too often, Republicans have responded to this attack upon our morality by either ignoring it altogether or dismissing it as "class warfare." Other responses have usually included the suggestion that Democrats are failing to lead, that we are offering credible solutions while they are not, or that their policies will hurt job creators. These are all true and important points, but they fail to rebut the underlying slander. They also fail to cast the argument for conservative reform in the necessary moral dimension. ...
Consider the debate over welfare reform. We now spend a trillion dollars annually on federal welfare programs. Converted to cash, spending on federal poverty programs would equal $60,000 for each household living in poverty. Almost 1 in 6 Americans are now on food stamps. The Administration is aggressively working to boost these figures even more, and labels any attempt at reform as uncaring and heartless. They even rewarded a food stamp recruiter for overcoming a community's "mountain pride."
Yet what has all this spending produced? More people are living in poverty, wages are flat, millions have completely exited the labor force, and fraud and abuse remain rampant. We will make the case that the time has come for another 1996-style welfare reform that reduces poverty, strengthens family, and helps more Americans transition from dependency to self-sufficiency. This is not merely a financial imperative; it is a moral imperative. ...
We will also explain how excessive taxation and debt is weakening growth today. Weaker growth translates to fewer job openings, smaller paychecks, and more people dependent upon the federal government. Balancing the federal budget is the only way to replace a future of weak growth and high taxes with strong growth and high wages. We have a moral obligation to taxpayers, and to our children, to balance the budget of the United States. ...
If the Democrat Majority accuses us of the same fictions I have listed earlier, we will reply: your policies are creating poverty, dependency, and chronic unemployment. Your policies are responsible for lost wages and lost jobs. Your policies have denied people access to quality health care. Your policies have shut down factories, surged energy costs, and brought economic growth to a standstill. And your policies are responsible for a nearing debt crisis that threatens each and every American family.
Here is the full memo:
Memo On FY14 Budget Process February 11, 2013 To: Republican Members From: Ranking Member Jeff Sessions
Senate Democrats, bowing to Republican pressure, have announced that they will finally relent and produce a budget this year as the law requires.
In her speech at Brookings last year, Chairman Murray declared that "I will not agree to a deal that throws middle class families under the bus and forces them to bear this burden alone. Unless Republicans end their commitment to protecting the rich above all else, our country is going to have to face the consequences of Republican intransigence... They pay lip-service to deficit reduction, but what they actually seem to be concerned about is cutting taxes for the rich and starving programs that help middle class families and the most vulnerable Americans."
As we enter the first Senate budget process in four years, it is my intention as Ranking Member not to let these slanders go unanswered. But in order to fully respond to Democrats' charges, it is useful to consider the central premise upon which it is based: that every single penny the public sector extracts from the private sector is wisely spent and improves the quality of life of everyday citizens. Only if one accepts this ludicrous premise could one characterize even the slightest attempts to reduce the $47 trillion CBO estimates will be spent over the next 10 years as an assault on the middle class.
The White House has succeeded to an alarming degree in framing the fiscal debate as a choice between fiscal restraint and compassion. Reductions in government are, in the White House narrative, inherently harmful; therefore, any approach that mitigates spending cuts through tax hikes is always the morally preferable approach.
They even awarded a food stamp recruiter for overcoming a community's "mountain pride."
No longer can we measure compassion by how much we spend on poverty, but how many people we help to rise out of poverty. Adding endlessly to the debt is not compassionate-it is destructive.
Compassion demands reform. We will confront the Majority directly with this argument. They will have to defend the social and economic harm their policies have afflicted on cities and communities across the country. And we believe the American people will be with us.
We hope to have a productive and cooperative budget process with the Majority this year. I have already expressed to the Chairman my willingness to work with her and her staff in an effort to balance the federal budget.
But, as demonstrated by their refusal to do a budget for nearly four years, the Majority has viewed the fiscal debate not as an exercise in problem-solving but an exercise in political combat. Their strategy has been to issue expertly crafted sound bites from their comfortable station in Washington while happily offering nothing to help those Americans trapped in a cycle of poverty and joblessness. Meanwhile, repeated good-faith Republican efforts to reform government have been rhetorically savaged by a Majority that refuses to contribute with a solution of their own. This pattern must end.
The budget process, carried out in the open light of day, is an opportunity to provide the nation with a bold contrast. The Majority offers a bleak future where millions of Americans are left behind, unable to find steady work, and where faceless government gradually erodes the human bonds of family and community. This will be contrasted against a confident vision of growth and opportunity where the central bonds in our lives are not with the government but with each other.
Our policies are rooted in our firm belief free people thrive most when a minimum burden is placed upon them. By capturing that spirit, and by defending working Americans from the surging federal colossus, our ideas will carry the day.
The Republican National Senatorial Committee has issued a memo called "Cementing A Liberal Legacy While Ignoring 2014." Its thesis is that "while President Obama and his team burns [sic] the political capital that he believes was earned last November, he is lighting an inferno under the electoral prospects for a number Democratic Senate candidates in 2014."
The Committee promises that it is "prepared to pounce" on the opportunity Obama is handing Republicans:
As the President and Democratic leaders in Congress double-down on their demands for higher taxes to finance even more out of control spending Republicans welcome and look forward to that debate in states like Louisiana, North Carolina, West Virginia, South Dakota, Arkansas, Alaska, and many others.
There are quite a few workers in the energy field in Louisiana and Alaska, for example. These men and women and their families will have a clear choice between a Republican Senator who will serve as a check on the President's increasingly liberal agenda, versus a longtime Democratic incumbent who helped vote him into office and actively supports this outside-the-mainstream push.
Military families and those who rely on the defense industry in states like North Carolina and Virginia should ask their Democratic Senators why they're focused on raising taxes for more wasteful spending instead of coming up with a plan to stop the President's sequester plan and protect their jobs.
Restaurant owners, farmers, and other workers in Montana and Arkansas are right to ask their Democratic Senators why our debt has skyrocketed as job growth has remained anemic since they've been running Washington.
The list goes on and on. These are the issues that affect people's lives. They are real, not just some esoteric budget debate in Washington. That is why these are the types of questions that will allow us to stay on offense.
Senate Democrats have lived a charmed life lately, thanks to the propensity of Republicans to nominate weak challengers to vulnerable incumbents. Perhaps Obama is betting that this propensity will be on display again in 2014 - not an unreasonable bet.
More likely, though, Obama enjoys playing leftist hard ball too much, and is too committed to pushing his "progressive" agenda through a shrinking window, to worry much about providing cover for Democrats unfortunate enough to represent a critical mass of insufficiently enlightened voters.
These numbers, from Gallup, are really quite stunning:
The only area where Obama scores reasonably well is national defense, where most people think he has continued the policies of his predecessor, George W. Bush. Other than that, after four-plus years, Americans have pretty well decided they don't like what Obama is trying to accomplish. Tonight the president will push hard to legalize millions of illegal immigrants, an issue on which, as Paul noted earlier today, he seems to be within sight of victory. Yet, according to Gallup, his position commands only minority support at 46-48.
Things get worse from there. Americans strongly disapprove of Obama on gun policy (42-54), taxes-another major focus of tonight's speech (41-57), the economy (a stunning 39-60), the Middle East (36-55) and the federal budget deficit (31-65). Lots of luck turning that around with another mind-numbingly dull State of the Union.
This raises once again the question of how on earth Obama was re-elected. For the moment, without rehashing that sad story, let's just note that Republicans in Washington should not hesitate to oppose Obama's unpopular policies with the utmost vigor.
Yesterday, I speculated that President Obama will use his state of the union speech primarily to prepare the battle field for upcoming fights pertaining to the budget. With the sequester looming and a debt-ceiling deadline not far behind, Obama will want to re-introduce tax increases into the debt reduction debate (it had occupied the prime spot in that debate until the end of 2012). In that way, he can shed (in the public's mind) his status as protector of big government and regain his status as the enemy of privilege.
But these speeches run long, and Obama will have plenty of other things to talk about. High on the list, almost surely, will be gun control and immigration reform - the big-ticket legislative items of the day. In the case of gun control, Obama knows Congress will not pass anything significant. So his goal will be to fire up the base while sounding as reasonable as possible to the middle.
Immigration is an altogether different matter. Obama understands that Congress is close to passing an historic measures that will tilt the political battle field in favor of left-liberalism for decades. There is little more helpful in a political battle than millions of new troops.
His goal, then, will be to keep the momentum for immigration reform going. He will do so, I expect, through naked appeals to Hispanic voters. Obama will be daring Republicans to say "no," with the expectation that they will lack the nerve to do so.
Obama's expectation is reasonable. The Republicans have tapped Marco Rubio to give respond to his speech, and Rubio has already said, in effect, "yes" to a path to citizenship for millions of illegal aliens.
By designating Rubio as the "rebuttal" speaker, the Republican establishment is also saying "yes." In my view it is consenting to the suicide of conservatism. At least it's for a good cause though - rewarding the willful defiance of U.S. law.
Tonight may be that rare instance in which it is more pleasant for me to listen to a left-wing Democrat's state of the union speech than to the Republican response. Maybe I should listen only to Rubio's Spanish version, which I won't understand but likely will be easy on the ears.
UPDATE: Rand Paul will also give a response to the president's speech. That speech might not be tough for me to take, provided that Paul, out of deference to his expected run for the presidency, doesn't say what he really thinks.

After the 2012 Waterloo, Republican consultants retreated to some party boats and hotels, and began planning their comeback. Bereft of ideas, they took the media's explanations for why they lost at face values. What they have delivered is a liberal's eye diagnosis of why they lost and so they debuted a plan to win over Latinos with amnesty and to end their negative image with a new gentler look.
Mostly what they have proven is that they are even more clueless than they were a year ago.
Senator Marco Rubio seems like a nice guy, but if the Republicans are counting on him to deliver the Latino vote, they might want to take a closer look at his Senate win. While Rubio did indeed win the Cuban Latino vote, he only won 39 percent of the non-Cuban Latino vote. That's the same Latino margin of victory as Rick Perry got. It's the usual best score that Republicans get among Latinos.
Marco Rubio could be a guy named Mark Richardson for all the impact that he made among Latino voters. But that's because the "Latino" vote is a ridiculous oversimplification. Latinos consist of Cubans, Puerto Ricans and Mexicans, to name just a few. And they don't necessarily align.
Mayor Bloomberg ran against a Puerto Rican candidate and won the Mexican vote. Bloomberg may speak Spanish about as well as your Aunt Sally, but that didn't really matter because Moneybags didn't waste a lot of time telling stories about growing up poor in the slums of San Juan. Instead he worked with Mexican community leaders who were tired of being sidelined by Puerto Ricans, and advertised heavily on their radio stations and in their papers.
Race is certainly a factor, but it's not the only factor. Most Black voters initially supported Hillary Clinton. If Herman Cain ran against Hillary Clinton in 2016, Clinton would beat him by a high margin. A Zogby poll shows Rubio beating Clinton among Latino voters, but how well that poll would hold up after Latino leaders have spent enough time getting the word out is another matter. Clinton beat Obama among Latino voters on Super Tuesday. Assuming that she won't do the same to Rubio only because of his race is a risky bet.
There are two types of minority groups in the United States. Segregated and integrated. The more integrated a group becomes, the less of a bloc vote it is. A bloc vote is not simply a consistent pattern, it is the result of a segregated community that interfaces with the rest of the country through its leaders and local media. And those two areas are key.
It doesn't really matter how many Latinos speak at the Republican National Convention or how many Republican senators sign on to Amnesty. These events will, for the most part, be processed through the filter of those community leaders and their associated newspapers and radio stations. Republicans imagine that they're addressing Latinos, but aside from Univision appearances they mostly don't even have access to them.
The percentage of the Latino vote that is accessible to Republicans largely comes from those Latinos who have integrated and are in the Middle Class. That is why the Republicans did so much better with the Latino vote in Ohio than Virginia. Median income and English language skills remain a fairly reliable predictor of the Republican vote.
Winning the minority vote is not simply about policy or diversity. That is an elementary lesson of the urban political machine that the Republican Party has bizarrely forgotten, even though it's a lesson that goes back a century and a half in American politics. Diversity is not about finding binders of qualified candidates, but about elevating community leaders from minority groups who can deliver a share of the vote from their community.
ACRU Brief Says Right to Firearms Not Limited to Home
WASHINGTON (Feb. 11, 2013) -- In a brief filed today at the U.S. Supreme Court, the American Civil Rights Union (ACRU) urges the court to hear a case involving New York citizens who say their Second Amendment right to bear arms has been abridged by a state law and a court ruling limiting gun rights to inside the home.
Written by ACRU General Counsel Peter Ferrara, the brief notes that the Second Circuit Court, in upholding a district court ruling, "failed to follow the plain language of District of Columbia v. Heller (2008)." The court "limited the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms to within the home. But Heller ... explicitly states that the core interest protected by the Second Amendment is self-defense, not limited to the home.

The article explained that the emerging Obamanomics was pursuing exactly the opposite of every policy of the enormously successful Reaganomics, and predicted that it would produce exactly the opposite results.
Well, the results are in, and under President Obama the American people have now suffered the worst 5 years since the Great Depression, as first explained by Steve McCann of the American Thinker on January 25. McCann writes,
"From 2009 through 2012, the Obama cabal, and their allegiance to statist policies, has been in charge for four years."

If you missed the Obama administration's "clarified" version of the notorious "contraception mandate" last Friday, you can be forgiven. In fact, even if you delved into the text of the new proposal, you probably emerged more muddled than before. The "clarification" is simple recrafting of language; the law's religious liberty problems have not been fixed. The government's message is the same as before: provide the medical services we demand, even if it means violating your faith and beliefs, or face steep fines. Even a Slate column noted, "Unless there's some invisible bureaucratic weirdness going on that's not being reported, nothing has changed."
Even the Department of Health and Human Services admits "this proposal would not expand the universe of employer plans that would qualify for the exemption beyond that which was intended." The exemption is primarily limited to houses of worship and religious orders.
Over 1,000 of you have chosen to go "all in" with us in our lawsuit against the St. Lucie County, Florida Board of Elections.
With your generous support, True the Vote is going to find out just what happened in the botched recount that may have cost Allen West his Congressional seat.
And we're already making great progress, as you'll see in just a moment!
Your contribution will make a real, tangible difference in this fight and in our country.
You see, before even setting foot in a courtroom, True the Vote has already shed light on the shady dealings of the St. Lucie County Board in ways that no one else could.
And the elections officials are getting a little uncomfortable with all of this scrutiny.
An entire week has passed since we filed suit, and Gertrude Walker, the St. Lucie County Supervisor of Elections, has maintained a consistent "no comment" response to any and all questions about the Allen West recount.
It's just as we suspected...
She has NO explanation for the abysmal incompetence that plagued the entire recount process.
She has NO explanation for how she managed to "find" some 2,000 ballots in her office after the polls closed.
She has NO explanation as to why the recount committee was evicted from their rented office space, eventually decided to scrap the recount altogether, and certified the flawed original results!
And that's exactly why we filed this lawsuit - to get an explanation.
It's amazing what happens when just a little ray of light is shone into a shady situation like this. With just a little bit of pressure on these officials, we're already seeing some promising signs of reform!
In just the past few days, Florida's Secretary of State has announced that five Election Administrators may be forced to resign in the wake of this scandal.
And, perhaps most important of all, Gertrude Walker has announced a plan to improve and streamline ballot counting procedures to prevent blunders like this in the future.
All of these developments are encouraging, and they give me hope that we may finally be on the road to free and fair elections in Florida.
But that doesn't change the fact that there are still questions left to be answered by Gertrude Walker and others.
And that's why our legal challenge in St. Lucie County MUST move forward.
We've already accomplished so much, but there is plenty left to do.
If we don't win this case, we'll never know what happened in this botched recount that may have cost Allen West his reelection. And if we don't find out what happened, we'll have no way to prevent it in the future.
P.S.: If you would like to volunteer to help make sure elections are free and fair in your state, please click here. Being a True the Vote volunteer is simple, doesn't take much time, and you can make a real difference for America!

Gas Tax Would be Passed on to Motorists, Economist Says
Pain at the Pump: Motorists filling up in Pennsylvania already pay some of the highest taxes in the nation. Gov. Tom Corbett's tax gas proposal could mean paying 75 cents in taxes for every gallon of gas.

HARRISBURG - Economists say that corporations don't pay taxes, people do.
And that's more-or-less the message from Rayola Dougher, an economist with the American Petroleum Institute, a research and lobbying organization for the gas and oil industries. Dougher told the Wilkes-Barre Citizens' Voice on Friday that Gov. Tom Corbett'sproposal to uncap a portion of Pennsylvania's gasoline tax in order to generate up to $1.8 billion annually for road and bridge repairs could lead to Pennsylvania having the highest taxes in the nation and that motorists would be paying for it.
President Obama to Advocate Amnesty in State of the Union Speech
Call the White House and Tell the President to Put the American People First!
Tonight, President Obama will use the State of the Union Speech to call on Congress to pass a sweeping amnesty program for the 11-12 million illegal aliens living in the United States.
Two weeks ago, President Obama finally unveiled the details of his amnesty proposal, one that will not only put illegal aliens on a pathway to citizenship, but will grant them work authorization to compete with American workers. In forming this plan, the President has spent years listening to special interests. And tonight, he will have an illegal alien sitting in the audience as his special guest!
Immediately after the State of the Union speech, Florida Senator Marco Rubio will give the official Republican response in which he is also expected to raise the issue of immigration. But since taking office in 2010, Rubio has made an about-face on his once steadfast opposition to amnesty.
Please take a few minutes today to call the White House & Senator Rubio's Office!
* White House: 202-456-1414
*Senator Rubio: 202-224-3041
In fact, prior to his election, Senator Rubio campaigned on the proposition that an, "Earned path to citizenship is basically code for amnesty," and criticized the 1986 amnesty law.
Now-barely two years after taking office-Senator Rubio is articulating his support for a plan to grant amnesty to the estimated 11-12 million illegal aliens in the country. Promoting this amnesty plan on the Senate floor and on media outlets all over the U.S., Senator Rubio is now saying that Congress must find "a way to accommodate" illegal aliens and is touting a plan that would allow them "the access to make their status at this moment legal."
As these two men finalize their speeches, they need to hear the voices of the American people who want sensible, true immigration reform. Please call the White House and Senator Marco Rubio NOW and tell them:
(1) you oppose amnesty; and
(2) that you want the U.S. to have an immigration policy that puts American workers first!
Tell them you oppose amnesty because:
* Granting any legal status to illegal aliens unfairly rewards law-breaking.
* Granting amnesty to illegal aliens will not "solve the problem once and for all." We learned this after the 1986 amnesty. Instead, granting amnesty will do nothing but encourage more illegal immigration. Will Congress once again be calling amnesty the solution to illegal immigration in another 10 years?
* Granting amnesty to illegal aliens is fundamentally unfair to individuals all over the world who are patiently waiting in line to come to the United States legally.
* Granting amnesty to illegal aliens unfairly adds millions of legal workers to the domestic workforce when 22 million Americans are either unemployed or underemployed. Moreover, those workers that are hurt the most are often legal immigrants working in low-skill, low-wage jobs.
* Granting amnesty to illegal aliens will not secure our borders, will not improve national security, will not end fraud in the immigration system, and will not fix the problem of visa overstays. Below are the numbers for the White House and Senator Rubio's office.
"When it comes to alcohol, a majority of Pennsylvanians agree on one thing: They want it firmly in the hands of the private sector.
So found the latest Inquirer Pennsylvania Poll, in which likely voters, by a ratio of nearly 2-1, said they favored doing away with state control over the sale of wine and liquor.
And 61 percent of respondents in the bipartisan survey said they supported allowing grocery stores to sell beer and wine...
...The Oct. 23 to 25 telephone survey of 600 likely voters was conducted by a Democratic firm, Global Strategy Group, and by National Research Inc., which is Republican. The margin of error was plus or minus 4 percent.
The poll found that 55 percent of respondents supported privatization, 28 percent opposed it, and 17 percent either did not know or did not answer..."

Tonight, the American people will be watching President Obama's fifth State of the Union address. How has he done on his promises over the past four years?
Take a look at some of the promises Obama made back in 2009 during his first State of the Union.
"I pledged to cut the deficit in half by the end of my first term in office."
For those who were concerned with President George W. Bush's $4 trillion national debt, this pledge may have seemed like the "hope and change" the American people voted for in 2008. However, the reality of America's additional debt over the past four years under the Obama Administration is staggering-almost $6 trillion in four years, on track to triple the amount Bush accumulated over his eight years as President. Now that Obama is heading into his second term, we've seen quite a change from the Barack Obama who thought $4 trillion in debt was "irresponsible" and "unpatriotic."
"Over the next two years, this [stimulus] plan will save or create 3.5 million jobs."
The President promised great things from the stimulus plan, but as Heritage's J.D. Foster has said, we have to look at his record. He may have promised 3.5 million new jobs, but he's 7.7 million jobs in the hole instead.

Pyongyang again disobeyed international efforts to rein in the recalcitrant regime by conducting its third nuclear test. North Korea announced it successfully conducted a test of a "miniaturized and lighter nuclear device with greater explosive force than previously." Coupled with its successful launch of a long-range missile in December 2012, Pyongyang has achieved another breakthrough in its decades-long quest to threaten the United States with nuclear weapons.
The nuclear test comes less than a month after the United Nations again demanded North Korea "comply fully with its obligations [to] abandon all nuclear weapons and existing nuclear programs" and not conduct any further nuclear tests. Chinese resistance prevented more meaningful punishment for North Korea's missile launch, though the U.N. meekly "expresse[d] its determination to take significant action in the event of a further DPRK launch or nuclear test."
Details of the nuclear test remain unknown, but seismic detection agencies confirmed "the event shows clear explosion-like characteristics and its location is roughly congruent with the 2006 and 2009 DPRK nuclear tests."
The lack of a clear strategy for Afghanistan post-2014 endangers the gains that the United States and its Afghan allies have made in the past decade. As 2014 draws nearer and the troop drawdown continues, the U.S. is entering into a new era of strategic engagement with Afghanistan. A panel of experts discussed the best way forward in Afghanistan at The Heritage Foundation on January 18.
Thousands of Rohingya are fleeing Burma and seeking refuge in Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Thailand only to find themselves persecuted, trafficked, or homeless. Blatant segregation and discrimination against the Rohingya has occurred since Burma's independence in the late 1940s, but recent tension between Buddhist and Muslim groups has led to an ever-increasing exodus of Rohingya to neighboring nations.
About The Heritage Foundation Founded in 1973, The Heritage Foundation is a research and educational institute -- a think tank -- whose mission is to formulate and promote conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense.

Last week, The Heritage Foundation released America's Opportunity for All, our newest, boldest policy blueprint packed with principled, conservative ideas that will get America back on the right course.
"The problem with the 2012 elections," Heritage President Ed Feulner and Heritage President-Elect Jim DeMint explain, "was not that conservative ideas were voted down. The problem was that we did not do a good enough job of presenting our ideas to the American people."
America's Opportunity aims to reverse that.
It's a blueprint that lays out the problems America is facing-and the solutions to them. Above all, it is optimistic, principled and practical. Just as Heritage's 1980 Mandate for Leadership was the how-to manual for the Reagan administration, America's Opportunity is the how-to manual for surviving the Obama administration.
The plan addresses a core problem: instead of being a catalyst for opportunity, government has become the chief barrier to opportunity.
President Obama will deliver his fifth State of the Union address this evening. As Heritage's Amy Payne points out in today's Morning Bell, President Obama has a poor track record for keeping his promises. But where our country's leadership fails, Heritage will step up.
America's Opportunity provides step-by-step directions to reverse the damage done to our great country, and return it to the nation once envisioned by our Founding Fathers. A nation where free enterprise and opportunity flourish and where liberty is championed by a constitutional government.
Getting America back on the right course will not be easy. But we have an obligation to get it right.
Von Spakovsky, the subject of the Journal's "Weekend Interview," tells the Journal's James Taranto that the so-called Voter Empowerment Act of 2013 is the latest push.
The United States Postal Service announced plans last week to end Saturday mail service, saving the beleaguered post office an estimated $2 billion a year.
Despite all the hand-wringing, however, this was a common-sense step by postal managers, who are faced with a flood of red ink that reached $16 billion last year. And given the relentless march of digital technology, more changes will be necessary if USPS is to survive. The question now is whether Congress will let those necessary changes take place or block them, dooming the enterprise and putting American taxpayers at risk.
"The good news," Gattuso says, "is that USPS-long a metaphor for inefficiency and mismanagement-seems willing to make the unpopular decisions necessary to deal with the new environment."
Heritage Foundation President Ed Feulner published an article in the Washington Times calling for a better immigration reform than the "comprehensive" reform plan being discussed now.
"We don't need any more 'comprehensive' approaches that result in bills so long no lawmaker actually reads them," Feulner writes. "Fixing our immigration system requires a more thoughtful, step-by-step process, one that tackles each problem in turn."

Representative Joe Courtney (D-CT) recently penned an open letter to the man who wrote the movie Lincoln. The film depicts a divided Connecticut state congressional delegation, with three members voting to uphold slavery. Courtney declares that cannot stand. He clarifies that, in 1865, Connecticut's representatives voted unanimously to abolish slavery.
Lincoln writer Tony Kushner doesn't apologize for the error. Lincoln is a work of fiction, he says, and real events were exaggerated to add to the drama. (The writer of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has yet to clarify that his portrayal of the 16th President as a vampire slayer is also fictional.)
Historical accuracy is crucial. So as we celebrate Abraham Lincoln's 204th birthday this week, let's separate the fact from fiction about Honest Abe.
As President Obama gets ready to give a State of the Union address that's expected to repeat his tried, and tired, liberal policy solutions, Conservatives should take heart. We're the side with all the creative ideas. This is precisely the time to reaffirm the principles that guide us and to redouble our efforts to change America's course.
Released just last week, "America's Opportunity for All" proposes bold reforms that meet the demands of the moment and address the magnitude of the challenges before us. It powerfully articulates a compelling vision of a prosperous and secure nation where the American Dream is within reach of everyone.
Returning power to the states restrains the federal government, but can states overextend themselves too? Should someone in Alabama worry about excessive spending and regulations in California? Federalism comes in more than one flavor-and not all are equal. In embracing federalism, we need to ask "what kind" rather than "how much."
Quote of the Week
"In those days, our Declaration of Independence was held sacred by all, and thought to include all; but now, to aid in the making the bondage of the negro universal and eternal, it is assailed, and sneered at, and construed, and hawked at, and torn, till, if its framers could rise from their graves, they could not at all recognize it."

Godly Man in an Ungodly Age By Patrick J. Buchanan The Secular City seems to have triumphed over the City of God. But in the Islamic world, an ancient and transcendental faith is undergoing a great awakening after centuries of slumber and seems anxious to re-engage and settle accounts with an agnostic West. As ever, the outcome of the struggle for the world is in doubt.
It's Cultural Deviancy, Not Guns By Walter E. Williams What explains a lot of what we see today, which politicians and their liberal allies would never condemn, is growing cultural deviancy. Today's Americans accept behavior that our parents and grandparents never would have accepted.
Vatican insiders today report what is an apparent "testing the water" move by the White House to suggest President Barack Obama as a possible replacement for retiring Pope Benedict XVI.
Father Guido Sarducci, unofficial Vatican spokesman, confirmed that a "highly placed person" in the administration had floated the idea of naming Obama the Vicar of Christ on Earth when Pope Benedict steps down at the end of the month.
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney was quick to state that any talk of the President leaving his current office to assume the duties of the supreme pontiff was irresponsible. "We are quite sure that the President would be able to fulfill the duties of both roles simultaneously," Carney reassured reporters.
He admitted that becoming pope would entail a step down for someone who is already Obama, but in his well-documented humility the President would be willing to do so to set the Church straight...
Ted Nugent to attend State of the Union address? President Obama's SOTU address is not exactly the sort of event where you would typically find Ted Nugent - in fact, today on radio he claimed that he doesn't even own a tie. Considering Ted's lifestyle, it's probably 100% true. Most of Ted's clothes are either ripped rocker gear or some kind of hunting get up. Regardless of attire, the left is expecting a tantrum from Ted Nugent tonight. What will he do? Check out his conversation with Glenn on radio today.
Odd: Obama handing out Medal of Honor like candy
Glenn and Pat have been keeping an eye on a bizarre trend from President Obama - he's handing out Medal of Honor awards like candy. Why would a guy whose constituency isn't exactly known for its steadfast support of the military be dishing out more medals in five years than his predecesor did in eight. Glenn explains on radio today.

Glenn recaps emotional service for Chris Kyle
Yesterday afternoon, Glenn attended the memorial service of American Sniper Chris Kyle at Cowboys Stadium. This morning on radio, Glenn choked up as he described the emotional event. He read the touching notes written by Kyle's children, which were on the back of every program. Losing a loved one hard is for anyone, but it's a different kind of challenge for the family. Matt Kibbe responds to Rove, establishment GOP
Last week Karl Rove made his intentions clear: He's going to bat for who he and the GOP establishment feel can "win" an election. Rove does not put much value into what the candidate's actual ideology is, which is kind of a sticking point for everyone who feels betrayed by the GOP (aka actual conservatives). How does Matt Kibbe of FreedomWorks feel about the Rove startup? Find out HERE.
Sun News reporter Brian Lilley warns about gun registration
As a nation, how did we get to this point on gun control? Take it from someone who is living under much tougher gun laws than America, north of the border in Canada, it starts with seemingly harmless registration, which leads to the tracking of all guns, and then it's all downhill from there. Canadian news anchor Brian Lilley has a warning for America. Watch it and get Glenn's reaction HERE.
