WND EXCLUSIVE
Shock claim: Obama picks Muslim for CIA chief
Former FBI expert claims John Brennan converted to Islam
by Drew Zahn
One of the FBI's former top experts on Islam has announced that President Obama's pick to head the Central Intelligence Agency, John Brennan, converted to Islam years ago in Saudi Arabia.
As WND has reported, former FBI Islam expert John Guandolo has long warned that the federal government is being infiltrated by members of the radical Muslim Brotherhood. But Guandolo now warns that by appointing Brennan to CIA director, Obama has not only chosen a man "naïve" to these infiltrations, but also picked a candidate who is himself a Muslim.
"Mr. Brennan did convert to Islam when he served in an official capacity on the behalf of the United States in Saudi Arabia," Guandolo told interviewer and radio host Tom Trento.
"That fact alone is not what is most disturbing," Guandolo continued. "His conversion to Islam was the culmination of a counterintelligence operation against him to recruit him. The fact that foreign intelligence service operatives recruited Mr. Brennan when he was in a very sensitive and senior U.S. government position in a foreign country means that he either a traitor ... [or] he has the inability to discern and understand how to walk in those kinds of environments, which makes him completely unfit to the be the director of Central Intelligence."
Brennan did indeed serve as CIA station chief in Riyadh in the 1990s and today holds the official title of Deputy National Security Advisor for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism. On Jan. 7, Obama nominated Brennan as the next director of the CIA, though he has yet to be confirmed.
"Are you kidding me?" Trento balked at Guandolo's allegations. "The head of the CIA is a Muslim? For real? ... Are you sure?"
"Yes I am," Guandolo asserted. "The facts of the matter are confirmed by U.S. government officials who were also in Saudi Arabia at the time that John Brennan was serving there and have direct knowledge. These are men who work in very trusted positions, they were direct witnesses to his growing relationship with the individuals who worked for the Saudi government and others and they witnessed his conversion to Islam."
Nothing. That is what President Barack Obama did on the night of September 11, 2012, as terrorists attacked the U.S. consulate in Benghazi and killed four Americans, among them Ambassador Christopher Stevens. President Obama's inaction was revealed in testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday by outgoing Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey.
Under direct questioning by Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), Panetta admitted that he had no communication with President Obama after their "pre-scheduled" meeting at 5:00 p.m. EDT. The attack on the consulate had already been under way for 90 minutes at that time. Neither the president nor anyone else from the White House called afterwards to check what was happening; the Commander-in-Chief had left it "up to us," said Panetta.

Metcalfe Seeks to Make Federal Gun-Grabbing A Criminal Offense in Pennsylvania
HARRISBURG - State Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) today announced his legislation that would make any new federal gun control laws unenforceable within the Commonwealth.
"Passage of my legislation will send the message that there will never be additional gun control, anywhere in Pennsylvania," said Metcalfe. "Whether by White House executive orders, congressional fiat, or judicial activism, we will never allow the left to benefit from the wicked acts of murderers in order advance their senseless gun-grabbing agenda which would only succeed in replacing one of our most sacred personal liberties with the chains of government tyranny."
Similar to legislation most recently introduced in Wyoming and Texas, Metcalfe's Right to Bear Arms Protection Act (House Bill 357) would:
Prohibit enforcement of any new federal registration, restriction or prohibition requirement for privately owned firearms, magazines and ammunition.
Require the state of Pennsylvania, including the Office of Attorney General, to intercede on behalf of Commonwealth citizens against any federal attempt to register, restrict or ban the purchase or ownership of firearms and firearms accessories which are currently legal products.
Final enactment of Metcalfe's Right to Bear Arms Protection Act would mean that anyone - even federal agents - who try to enforce any type of gun control restriction within state borders would face arrest and being charged with a felony offense.
"The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned," said Metcalfe. "Article 1, Section 21 of the Pennsylvania Constitution makes it crystal clear that no level of government, especially the federal government, has any authority whatsoever to impose senseless restrictions on law-abiding firearms owners, or worse, the confiscation of legally owned firearms. The purpose of my legislation is to force any gun-grabbing federal official to count the costs of unconstitutionally disarming or denying Pennsylvania citizens their God-given right to keep and bear arms."
Metcalfe is also calling on all Pennsylvania citizens who support Constitutional liberty to attend Pennsylvania's annual Second Amendment Action Day on Tuesday, April 23, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the State Capitol Rotunda, and to sign the all-new Armed Pennsylvania: Say to No Gun Control petition by visiting RepMetcalfe.com.

February 15 - March 27, 2013 - Debt Ceiling: Sometime in this date range we are expected to reach the debt ceiling (Technically we have already hit the debt ceiling, but this is the date range when we will reach a point where the Treasury can no longer implement "extraordinary measures" to meet our spending obligations.
February 28, 2013 - Sequestration: The "fiscal cliff" bill created a new manufactured crisis that will happen sometime at the end of February. This is when the sequestration can was kicked down the road.
March 31, 2013 - Continuing Resolution: The current Continuing Resolution that the government is operating under expires on March 31. This means that they will have to pass a CR between now and then.
April 15, 2013 - Budget Resolution: This is the date by law in which both Houses should have a budget resolution passed. We are already hearing that the President is late in submitting his budget, the House is reporting that they will not meet their deadline for a budget, and the Senate... well they haven't passed a budget in over 1,350 days.
Any questions, holler.

AAA warns E15 gasoline could cause car damage
Gary Strauss, USA TODAY November 30, 2012
E15, a higher blend of ethanol and gasoline, has rolled out in a handful of states. But its use in older vehicles is generating warnings from AAA, which says E15 could be harmful to pre-2012 vehicles.
The AAA says the Environmental Protection Agency and gasoline retailers should halt the sale of E15, a new ethanol blend that could damage millions of vehicles and void car warranties.
AAA, which issued its warning Friday, says just 12 million of more than 240 million cars, trucks and SUVs now in use have manufacturers' approval for E15. Flex-fuel vehicles, 2012 and newer General Motors vehicles, 2013 Fords and 2001 and later model Porsches are the exceptions, according to AAA, the nation's largest motorist group, with 53.5 million members.
"It is clear that millions of Americans are unfamiliar with E15, which means there is a strong possibility that many may improperly fill up using this gasoline and damage their vehicle," AAA President and CEO Robert Darbelnet tells USA TODAY. "Bringing E15 to the market without adequate safeguards does not responsibly meet the needs of consumers."
More Horrific Hagel Statements - Israelis Keep "Palestinians Caged Up Like Animals," Iran Should Not Be Isolated, Supports Fatah/Hamas Merger
The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) has pointed to further, alarming statements made by President Barack Obama's nominee for Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel, and urged senators to vote against confirming him in that office.
The far-left J Street, which present itself as a pro-Israel group, has now released the video of Hagel's speech to its 2009 conference, in which Hagel said that he opposed isolating Iran through diplomacy and sanctions, saying, "How in the world do we think isolating someone is going to bring them around to your way of thinking?"
Hagel also subscribed to the discredited 'linkage' argument, which contends that the Middle East can be greatly tranquilized and U.S. relations with Arab states enhanced if the U.S. pressures Israel into a peace agreement with the Palestinians. Hagel said, "The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is central, not peripheral, to U.S. vital security interests in combating terrorism, preventing an Iranian nuclear weapon, stability in the Middle East and U.S. and global energy security."
Echoing the views of hostile anti-Israel figures Brent Scowcroft and Zbigniew Brzezinski, Hagel suggested imposing a peace agreement on Israel, saying, "I think we are getting close to the time where something has to be laid down here on this."
Hagel also called for a Fatah-Hamas merge, saying, "No peace will be possible nor sustainable as long as the Palestinians remain a house divided." He did not mention any conditions for Hamas
Also, Hagel seemed to refer, like Israel's Arab enemies, to Israel's capital being Tel Aviv, not Jerusalem, when said, "It's always difficult for leaders to step forward, either in Ramallah, Tel Aviv, Riyadh or Cairo." ('Sen. Chuck Hagel at the first J Street Conference,' Youtube, January 29, 2012). Other than Tel Aviv, all the other cities named by Hagel are Arab capitals.
Additionally, a report in the Washington Free Beacon has unearthed a Hagel statement that appeared in a Nebraska newspaper, the Lincoln Journal Star, on January 12, 2003, in which Hagel said that Israel was "keep[ing] Palestinians caged up like animals" ('Hagel in 2003: Israel Keeps "Palestinians Caged Up Like Animals,"' Washington Free Beacon, January 9, 2013).
ZOA National President Morton A. Klein said, "These newly unearthed statements by Hagel simply reinforce the fact that Hagel has a virtually unrivaled record of hostility to Israel, bigotry towards Jews and gays, disbelief in the importance of a strong U.S. military, indulgence of Middle Eastern terrorist groups like Hizballah and Hamas, and antipathy towards any conceivable measure - economic or military - for preventing Iran becoming a nuclear power if negotiations fail.
"These statements afford further reasons for the Senate to vote against confirming Chuck Hagel as Defense Secretary and we urge senators to do so."
Please continue to call both of your U.S. senators and respectfully ask that they oppose the nomination of Chuck Hagel as secretary of defense. Please ask friends, relatives, colleagues and all of your electronic contacts to call as well.
Has Communist Ideology Overtaken America? Education is crucial. Today I want to share two very interesting lists with you, and rather than adding an extensive amount of my commentary, I want to give you the chance to examine the facts for yourself. It is my opinion that many communist goals have already been accomplished. I also believe that advancement has been made in other areas. But, you owe it to yourself to do your own research. I believe not only in the freedom of speech, but also in the responsibility of free thought. So please don't take my word for it. Examine the facts for yourself.
Again, I want to share two lists with you. The first is a list that was entered into 1963 Congressional Record. The second is the 10 planks of The Communist Manifesto.
If you can't see this happening in America, and a ton of progress being made, then I offer two potential explanations:
You are one of the "useful idiots" of communist teaching.
I am one of the "village idiots" that your Mama probably warned you about.
Some of these points will be open for debate and some will not. In some cases it is blatantly obvious that they have achieved their goals. It is even rumored that our own President has deep communist ties. You might want to check that out as well but I will withhold my opinion at this point. Let's just lay it out and you can interpret it.
This list was originally printed in "The Naked Communist" by Cleon Skousen. It was entered into Congressional Record in 1963 as the 45 goals of "The Communist Takeover of America."

Yes, it's true: You can support ACT! for America-at no cost to you!An important message from Guy Rodgers, Executive Director
The next time you make an online purchase of almost anything, you could be helping ACT! for America-at no cost to you.
Sound too good to be true? It isn't.
All you have to do is sign up for "iGive"-a program that's been around since 1997.
The concept is as powerful as it is simple.
Every time an iGive member makes an online purchase at over 1,000 brand-name stores, a percentage of that purchase is donated to that person's charity of choice.
And with the holidays just around the corner, you could be helping ACT! for America with every gift you buy!
The concept isn't new. In the mid-1990s many supporters of non-profit organizations signed up with long distance telephone programs where a percentage of their bill was donated to their charity of choice.
But our investigation of iGive has convinced us that this program has an ease of use and sophistication that we find remarkable.
Imagine booking a hotel room on Orbitz-and having 1.6% of that purchase price donated to ACT! for America.
Or buying an Xbox at Best Buy-and having 1.2% of the purchase price donated to ACT! for America.
The same goes for buying merchandise at Amazon, Bath and Body Works, Advance Auto Parts, Game Stop, Kmart, Home Depot, Holiday Inn, Old Navy, NASCAR Superstore, Overstock.com, Mattel, J.C. Penney, Office Max, QVC, Radio Shack, Shoe Carnival, Pottery Barn-and on and on the list goes.
In other words, every time you make a purchase of merchandise you would buy anyway, you would be financially supporting ACT! for America!
All you have to do is log on below and follow the directions to create your account and download the iGive "button." (Note: downloading the "button" is key).
When I was first informed of iGive, I was skeptical. I've seen these ideas come and go. Often, they're too good to be true. Or there are all kinds of glitches and problems.
So I spent hours researching.
I looked at online customer reviews (which were very good). I read all of iGive's fine print, such as Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. I signed up and even emailed two tech support questions to see how good their tech support was.
And the more I dug, the more I liked what I saw. For instance, both of my tech support questions were responded to within 60 minutes. How often does THAT happen?
As you know from our Patriot Partner program, we're all about encouraging a lot of people to each do a little-to do something. When everyone does a little, together we accomplish a lot.
So consider what could happen.
If just 1% of ACT! for America members each purchased just $400 in merchandise in 2013, from all the available outlets, and the average percentage donated to ACT! was 1.5%, the total amount donated back to ACT! for America would be...
...$15,000. That's a lot of money, wouldn't you agree?
And if you were one of those ACT! for America members, it wouldn't cost you one thin dime to help ACT! for America receive $15,000.
If this idea really caught on, and eventually 5% of our members made purchases with iGive, that $15,000 could explode to $50,000, $75,000 or more!
What's more, that 1.5% figure might be low. Many of the merchants offer percentage donations that are much higher. One printer inkjet company I looked at offered 13%!
Every merchant website you visit tells you right at the top what percentage of your purchase price will be donated to ACT! for America.
Just think what we could accomplish with an extra $15,000, $50,000 or $75,000 in our fight against radical Islam!
One of the things I most wanted to know was their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Check it out for yourself. I confirmed the terms with a company representative. And I like what I learned. As security-conscious as I am, I have no hesitation using the service-and I'm already doing so.
I know there are many people out there who would love to support ACT! for America, or give more than they're giving, but in these tough economic times they simply can't.
Well, here's a way that everyone who believes in our mission can easily support what we're doing-at no cost to them.
It doesn't get any better than that.
There are already chapter leaders who have signed up for the program, and the feedback I have been getting from them has been all positive. They love the idea and many of them are already using it.
So please, join me and these ACT! for America chapter leaders who are already signed up and using the iGive service.
Yours for a safe and free America
Guy Rodgers

The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq
Jul 18th, 2012
Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet,The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.
The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.
Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.
Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.
The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.
The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

Individuals sympathetic to the Muslim Brotherhood's sinister agenda have infiltrated the Obama Administration.
Brainwashed by the Muslim Students Association and then propelled in to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the David Horowitz Freedom Center tracks the path of Huma Abedin and other Muslim sympathizers who have navigated their way into positions of great influence in the Obama Administration. Everything is revealed in the explosive new Freedom Center pamphlet, "The Muslim Brotherhood in the Obama Administration," written by Frank Gaffney, national security expert who served as Assistant Secretary of Defense under Ronald Reagan.
The David Horowitz Freedom Center is committed to educating the public on the Muslim Brotherhood's sinister Agenda. That is why we are giving away this pamphlet for FREE.

AFP is an organization of grassroots leaders who engage citizens in the name of limited government and free markets on the local, state, and federal levels. AFP grassroots activists advocate for public policies that champion the principles of entrepreneurship and fiscal and regulatory restraint. To that end, AFP supports: Cutting taxes and government spending in order to halt the encroachment of government in the economic lives of citizens by fighting proposed tax increases and pointing out evidence of waste, fraud, and abuse. Removing unnecessary barriers to entrepreneurship and opportunity by sparking citizen involvement early in the regulatory process in order to reduce red tape. Restoring fairness to our judicial system. WHO WE ARE The heart and soul of AFP is our citizen activists. They organize events, write letters to the editor, and petition their lawmakers to uphold freedom and prosperity. Americans for Prosperity has more than 1,800,000 activists in all 50 states and 34 state chapters and affiliates. More than 90,000 Americans in all 50 states have made a financial contribution to AFP or our sister organization, AFP Foundation. WHAT WE DO AFP's network of organized and influential citizen leaders in a growing number of states throughout the country is working to change the nation one state at a time. AFP mobilizes citizens to effectively make their voices heard in public policy issue campaigns. AFP educates citizens about where their elected officials stand on our issues. AFP combines "best-in-class" capabilities built once at the national level with local knowledge from our state staff and on-the-ground grassroots to create economies of scale that win. AFP leverages our comparative advantages with those of other groups by building coalitions of local, state, and national grassroots organizations fighting for a common cause.

Unlike other PACs and organizations, FreedomWorks for America will aggressively support candidates who will defend freedom, even in political primaries against establishment or incumbent Republicans. In 2000 Justice Roberts and his wife Jane adopted two children. Initially it was apparent that the adoptions were "from a Latin American country", but over time it has become apparent that the adopted children were not Latin American, but were Irish. Why this matters will become evident.
In 2005 the NY Times began investigating Roberts life as a matter of his nomination to the Supreme Court by George Bush. The Times was shortly accused of trying to unseal the adoption papers and intending to violate the anonymity of the adoption process... however there is more to the story.
The NEW YORK TIMES is looking into the adoption records of the children of Supreme Court Nominee John G. Roberts, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
The TIMES has investigative reporter Glen Justice hot on the case to investigate the status of adoption records of Judge Roberts' two young children, Josie age 5 and Jack age 4, a top source reveals.
Judge Roberts and his wife Jane adopted the children when they each were infants.
Both children were adopted from Latin America.
A TIMES insider claims the look into the adoption papers are part of the paper's "standard background check."
Bill Borders, NYT senior editor, explains: "Our reporters made initial inquiries about the adoptions, as they did about many other aspects of his background. They did so with great care, understanding the sensitivity of the issue."
Were the Children Adopted from Ireland?
This is not clear ... -- the Associated Press reports that they were "adopted from Latin America." This seems a bit puzzling, in light of the Time magazine report indicating that the children were born in Ireland. Also, their blonde hair and fair skin do not seem conventionally Latin American. 1
1.FBI arrest one Matthew Aaron Llaneza for trying to blow up San Francisco bank.
Short version: the feds arrested one Matthew Aaron Llaneza for attempting to blow up a bank for the Taliban; as is the FBI's wont, they got him via a sting operation that was kept up right up to the moment where Llaneza pulled the remote trigger on the 'bomb.' Which is, obviously, fine by me: I want the FBI out there actively trolling the fringes for people who really, really want to blow up Americans. It saves a lot of time - and, of course, lives.

Get the Federal Government Out of the Natural Gas Business
Amy Payne | February 11, 2013 at 7:06 am
In North Dakota, people have jobs. That state led the nation in job creation last year, and its unemployment rate is only 3.2 percent (compared to the national rate of 7.9 percent). Why?
One word: energy.
As Nicolas Loris, Heritage's Herbert and Joyce Morgan Fellow, writes in a forthcoming paper:
Technological advancements in directional drilling and hydraulic fracturing have led to an abundance of natural gas production in the United States that is fundamentally changing the energy landscape. The result has been more jobs, economic growth, and consistently low domestic natural gas prices in what has known to be a historically volatile market.
Despite media misinformation and Hollywood portrayals like Promised Land, the fact remains that hydraulic fracturing, also called fracking, is being done responsibly and is revitalizing local economies like Williston, North Dakota.

"Hundreds of thousands of people marched on Sunday in Tehran and other cities chanting 'Death to America' as Iran marked the 34th anniversary of the Islamic revolution that ousted the U.S.-backed shah," reports AFP.
"President Barack Obama is expected to detail an ambitious domestic agenda in his State of the Union address Tuesday, including measures on immigration, gun control, climate change and education," reports The Wall Street Journal.
What about the "gun show loophole" that allows people to buy guns without background checks? Heritage's John Malcolm debunks misinformation that is circulating.

For pure arrogance and quintessential liberal hubris it's hard to beat Hillary Clinton's "What difference, at this point, does it make?" When asked about how four innocent Americans died during the attack in Benghazi she cleverly gave the media a way to write her guilt away with that line. It was too bad that the timid Republicans were unable to muster the courage to turn the line around on her and ask: "If that is the case why do we do autopsies?" or "Why does the NTSB investigate airplane crashes if, at this point it makes no difference ?" "What difference, at this point, does it make?"
Since the Republicans allowed this outrage to pass without challenge, it seems fitting to ask a few other questions that SHOULD matter but of course since asking them would embarrasses Democrats we never will.
Under questioning in the Senate Armed Services Committee today, Defense Secretary Panetta and Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, testified that they spoke to President Obama only once on the evening of Sept. 11, 2012, when the U.S. facilities in Benghazi, Libya were under attack by terrorists.
By forcing women into units like these, where they are neither wanted nor needed, Panetta and Obama have, in effect, told the American fighting man that his best isn't good enough and that women are needed to get the job done.
Oh and by the way: we're more than $16 trillion in debt. That means we're the absolutely biggest debtor nation in history and getting bigger by the hour. So what are those geniuses we elected to the White House and Congress doing about this?
When Mr. Lucas Da Silva's parents made the decision to break United States Immigration Laws by overstaying their visas over two decades ago, that decision had repercussions.
who stated it first, and it was Locke who also correctly pointed out that without our natural right to freely act in self-defense, i.e.: without our natural right to liberty, human life is vulnerable to the tyrannical actions of evil people.
For their part, the liberal women on Capitol Hill seem as uninterested in the alleged exploitation of underage prostitutes as they are in cozy donor deals, tax evasion and Medicare fraud.
Unfortunately, President Obama's nominee to head the CIA, Deputy National Security Adviser John Brennan, has shown a tendency to fall for the bait from radical Islamists.
The solution to the problem of the number of political parties lies in those last pages of Atlas Shrugged. Judge Narragansett is writing on a copy of the Constitution , "Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of production and trade...."
Islam is now the fastest growing religion in America, verifying President Barack Obama's claim that the United States is "no longer a Judeo-Christian country."

This is an urgent call to quick action. Chuck Hagel's nomination to be Secretary of Defense must be stopped -- and, in the last 24 hours, it's beginning to look like it CAN be. Please take a look at this video and then CALL your two United States Senators (202-224-3121) and urge them to support a filibuster against the nomination and to vote AGAINST the nomination if it ever comes to a vote on the Senate floor.
When you call, all you need to say is that you're calling to urge your Senator(s) to support a filibuster and to vote against Hagel's nomination. There will be an intern or other staffer on the other end whose only interest is in tallying support or opposition, so you don't need to engage in a lot of study or a detailed conversation. This video is so alarming that you don't need to know much more - but if you do want to go into more depth, here are some good sources:
One of the first things a new correspondent discovers is that the White House press corps remains one of the world's last remaining caste systems, something that seems to be modeled after the raj days in India. It's the networks, along with heavy journalism hitters like The Washington Post and The New York Times, that call the tune while almost everyone else scrambles to collect the crumbs off the floor.
His back against the wall, Khamenei is going all out to increase Iranian power where he can, and that means Iraq, Africa and Yemen, and of course Egypt. The war is on, and we are in full retreat. And the tandem of Kerry, Hagel and Brennan love it.
The international media is speculating on President Obama's visit to Israel scheduled for late March. The arguments are that he would not come unless he gets some breakthrough -- that is, some Israeli concession -- or he wouldn't leave happy unless he received one.

It is time to address updating firearms legislation in order to protect the 99 percenters from horrific acts of gun violence. But factual analysis (not emotional) of the most egregious mass gun violence circumstances must be carefully considered to derive a comprehensive solution.
Several commonalities of the mass murders are evident:
In all the instances: Columbine, Newport, Aurora and Virginia Tech, the perpetrators are cowards. They only attack the defenseless. "Gun Free Zones" are the targets of choice. In most of the instances when the cowards are finally confronted by the police, they commit suicide rather than engage.
Illusionary mental unbalance and association with some cult fantasy is usually involved. In most cases Hollywood violence or interactive violent video games are associated.
Various types of firearms are used and in most cases are illegally possessed by the perpetrator either by theft or falsifying purchase documents. However, in the most horrific mass murder of Oklahoma City (168 killed, including 19 children under 6, plus 680 injuries) no firearms were used. A fertilizer manufactured bomb was used.
Indisputable and related facts that should be considered for a realistic solution are:
Most of the 300 million known civilian-owned guns are semi-automatic repeaters (not automatics, which are essentially illegal by federal law). Clip-fed semi automatic weapons have been available to the civilian market from the late 1800s.
The additional time difference to discharge two, 10-round clips, instead of one 20-round clip is only 1-2 seconds.
According to the FBI, in areas where right to carry have been implemented, gun crimes have been reduced and the converse is also a fact.
Schools (like the Friends school where President Obama's children attend, in addition to the Secret Service), celebrities, politicians and other wealthy are protected by armed guards and are not attacked. Essentially, the 1 percenters are the ones who can afford this protection.
In Israel, teachers are armed and there are no school shootings.
Without even discussing the purpose of the Second Amendment, which by testament of the signers was to secure a free society by ensuring that the citizens could protect themselves from both individuals and government oppression, how can we prevent hideous gun crimes against the 99 percenters? The answer is obvious from the aforementioned facts.
Allow an expansion of the right to carry and yes assure a more comprehensive check for mental illness or criminal record prior to gun purchase. But the most obvious program is to allow an undisclosed, properly trained and certified school employee to carry a concealed firearm, in a manner that federal sky marshals and crew do on airplanes.
The use of a retired police officer or if absolutely necessary a full-time professional guard is another option. For a school district in an absolute dire financial situation, the re-prioritizing of a non teacher salary could be considered. Then, the 99 percenters can enjoy the safety that has been a proven success for the 1 percenters.
Carlo Grilletto, Doylestown, is a retired scientist, with over 35 years experience in the aerospace and semiconductor industry, credited with over 20 technical publications and patents. Dear Members and Friends,
We have received word that Vice President Joe Biden will be visiting Girard College in Philly, tomorrow morning, to push the gun confiscation agenda of the Fast and Furious Obama Administration.
Can you read this trooper's mind?
Imagine--an administration which put guns in the hands dangerous Mexican drug lords and gangs--resulting in the death of at least one American and many others--is going to lead the way on gun safety!
Remember, Eric Holder is the first US Attorney General, ever, to be held in Contempt of Congress by the full House of Representatives. If you recall, Mr. Holder refused to cooperate with a Congressional oversight committee trying to get to the bottom of the deadly Fast and Furious scandal.
Local Congressman Pat Meehan was a major player in the Congressional investigation.
Mr. Biden will be joined by the usual local gun confiscation cheerleaders--Congressmen Bob Brady and Chaka Fattah, Congresswoman
Allyson Schwartz, Mayor Michael Nutter, and District Attorney Seth
Williams.
Wonder what Girard College Founder, Stephen Girard (150-1831), would have thought of his philanthropic institution being used to promote an attack on the 2nd Amendment of the United States Constitution?
Mr. Girard helped finance the US Government during the War of 1812.
The Association considered organizing a protest in response to Biden's visit, but we were reluctant to hold one at a grammar/high school.
We are holding a symposium with Brietbart's Ben Shapiro on Sunday, March 3 (details below).
Please call the White House Switchboard at 202.456.1111 and let the Fast and Furious President and Vice President know that they have no credibility when it comes to gun safety issues and that we will strongly oppose their gun confiscation schemes.

When your child's religious liberty is demanded at the schoolhouse door...
Uneducated administrators who practice anti-religious rhetoric against students and teachers can be taught!
January 16, 2012
In recent years, public school administrators have fallen for the lies of anti-religious groups like the ACLU, Freedom From Religion Foundation and People for the American Way.
Using baseless fear tactics, these groups have intimidated superintendents and principals into ignorance and cowardice as it applies to religious rights in your child's school.
For example, teachers and coaches are being fired and students are being punished for simply being who they are - Christians.
Last week in Phillipsburg, NJ, a substitute teacher was fired because he answered a student's question about his faith. When the student asked for, and received, a Bible from the teacher, Walter Tutka was immediately dismissed.
In another absurdity, a constitutionally-protected student Bible Club in a Western New York public school was ordered by administrators to remove a prayer request box.
In other cases, students are being told they can't read their Bible during lunch, or that expressing the Christian faith during a class discussion is not allowed.
The truth is...Students, parents and teachers have the right to express their faith in public and private - including in our schools and universities.
TAKE ACTION
These three organizations stand ready to defend rights of students and teachers who come under religious intimidation by over-zealous school administrators.
Should your local school attempt to restrict religious rights, contact:

Lack of Republican competition robs voters: Column
USA TODAY | Kellyanne Conway | EST February 7, 2013
Clearing the field for hand-picked Republican candidates who "can win" is both poor policy and poor politics.
When did the pro-competition, pro-free market Republican Party start squashing those principles in their own political primary system? "Clearing the field" for hand-picked candidates because a few consultants sitting in a circle say "he can win!" is both poor policy and poor politics. It also robs the voters of their right to choose.
For outside groups such as American Crossroads' reinvented "Conservative Victory Fund" to intervene in races is not new. It was attempted just last year, and with spectacular failure. Conservative senate candidate in Missouri Todd Akin and his Indiana counterpart Richard Mourdock are the easy soundbites from the 2012 GOP losses, but those memorable names hide many more failed Senate candidates who had all the king's horses and all the king's men -- and all the king's money -- and lost: Josh Mandel (Ohio), Connie Mack (Fla.), Denny Rehberg (Mont.), Rick Berg (N.D.), Heather Wilson (N.M.), Tommy Thompson (Wis.), George Allen (Va.), Linda McMahon (Conn.) and Linda Lingle (Hawaii).
Former Green Bay Packers cheerleader Kaitlyn Collins didnt do anything to deserve the relentless taunting and bullying she received at the hands of countless commenters on the Chicago Bears Facebook fan page. Ms. Collins decided to stand up to her bullies. See her video responseHERE.
Los Angeles Fox affiliate KTTV-TV published a portion of accused cop killer Christopher Dorners writing that left out his political views. Other local news outlets including KTLA-TVand KFI AM 640 did the same. Why were parts of this important document removed? Get the storyHERE.
A week ago, the internet was abuzz with the news that the White House had released the now-famous (and famously mocked) photo of President Obama shooting skeet at Camp David. A week later, a Connecticut company has released an action figure of the President in his skeet shooting pose. See itHERE.

A criminal investigation is now underway after a hacker apparently accessed emails sent between members of the Bush family and friends. Aside from the personal photos that were grabbed and sent around the web, there were also some paintings that are apparently the work of former President George W. Bush. See some of these very personal photos and the Bush paintingsHERE.
Suzanne Garment's excellent column "With words we govern men"" alerted me to Gil Troy's new book, Moynihan's Moment: America's Fight Against Zionism As Racism. Moynihan's moment was his moment of greatness at the United Nations opposing the adoption of the Soviet-inspired "Zionism is racism" resolution by the General Assembly in 1975. The damage lives on, but the resolution was undone at the insistence of the United States in the administration of the first President Bush, thanks to the efforts of of John Bolton and others.
The story is one that has long been of interest to me for a number of reasons. I drew on Moynihan's memoir of the events, written with Suzanne Garment, to write a 2006 column for the Weekly Standard about the New York Times's opposition to the service of Moynihan and Bolton at the UN. The Standard ran the column under the heading "Déjà vu, all over again." I think it quotes Moynihan to good effect on matters of continuing relevance.
I invited Professor Troy to write something for us taking up the story. He has obliged with a column that adds a local Minnesota angle to the story. I will post the column first thing tomorrow morning.
Editing it in a draft earlier today, I accidentally published it for a few seconds with html code and URLs to items with which I had intended to introduce the column, including the video below. I wanted to take the occasion to explain here what happened and to post the video of "Moynihan's moment" of greatness, for those who may not have seen it before, for those who can use a quick refresher, and for those who (like me) want to keep the memory alive.
Lindsey Graham says he will ask that the nominations of Chuck Hagel (Secretary of Defense) and John Brennan (CIA Director) be held up until President Obama answers questions about what he did and did not do in response to the Benghazi attack. Graham cites the slogan of then-Senator Joe Biden during the confirmation hearings on John Bolton: "No confirmation without information."
Graham is off base. His information request has nothing to do with the fitness or suitability of Hagel and Brennan to serve in the positions for which they have been nominated.
Moreover, Graham's posture may hurt the cause of obtaining information that's actually relevant to the nominees. Hagel has already refused to supply relevant information, including the names of foreign organizations that have paid him money. Thus, Graham and others already have grounds to block Hagel, and should do so. Graham shouldn't confuse the issue by bringing Benghazi-related information into the picture. By doing so, he arguably implies that the Hagel nomination can proceed if Obama answers questions about Benghazi.
Graham is also wide of the mark in invoking Biden's quote. The information Biden sought in connection with Bolton's confirmation related specifically to Bolton.
Biden sought two types of information. The first was material related to the preparation of testimony Bolton gave to the Senate concerning WMD and Syria. The stated purpose of the request was to ascertain whether (1) Bolton exaggerated intelligence information in his testimony and (2) Bolton told the truth when he said he wasn't involved in the preparation of that testimony.
The other material Biden sought had to do with NSA intercepts and "U.S. persons" identified therein. The stated purpose of this request was to see whether Bolton, who had requested the identify of "U.S. persons" identified in intercepts on ten occasions, may have done so improperly.
Biden's requests were probably fishing expeditions or worse. But he was able plausibly to assert a connection between the information and the nominee. Graham doesn't even bother to assert any, nor could he.
Graham is being petulant. In principle, I don't mind, since his petulance in this instance is in service of holding Obama accountable for his deadly dereliction of duty in Benghazi.
But Graham shouldn't mix apples and oranges. John Brennan deserves an up-or-down vote regardless of whether Obama answers Graham's questions about Benghazi. And Chuck Hagel doesn't deserve one until, at a minimum, he supplies information about payments he received from foreigners regardless, again, of whether Obama answers Graham's questions.
Global warming: is there anything it can't do? CNN anchor Deb Feyerick accomplished a remarkable two-fer yesterday, when, in the space of a few seconds, she suggested that global warming may be causing both 1) blizzards and 2) asteroids:
"Global warming" has evolved into one more form of magical thinking on the part of liberals. Via Newsbusters.
Police officers searching for suspected cop killer Christopher Dorner have now shot up innocent citizens on two occasions. Dorner is armed and dangerous, but you really have to wonder what's going on.
On Thursday a vehicle matching Dorner's gray Nissan Titan was reported in Torrance. Before long, according to the Los Angeles Times, at least seven police officers opened fire. They unleashed a barrage at a mother and daughter, ages 47 and 71, delivering newspapers while traveling in an aqua blue Toyota Tacoma. A photo of the vehicle after the encounter with police is below.
The second incident followed on Thursday morning in short order. Here is the opening of the Los Angeles Times story on the second incident:
David Perdue was on his way to sneak in some surfing before work Thursday morning when police flagged him down. They asked who he was and where he was headed, then sent him on his way.
Seconds later, Perdue's attorney said, a Torrance police cruiser slammed into his pickup and officers opened fire; none of the bullets struck Perdue.
His pickup, police later explained, matched the description of the one belonging to Christopher Jordan Dorner - the ex-cop who has evaded authorities after allegedly killing three and wounding two more. But the pickups were different makes and colors. And Perdue looks nothing like Dorner: He's several inches shorter and about a hundred pounds lighter. And Perdue is white; Dorner is black.
The Times quotes an attorney representing Perdue: "I don't want to use the word buffoonery but it really is unbridled police lawlessness. These people need training and they need restraint."
CORRECTION: In the first incident, as the Times reports, the older of the two women was shot twice in her back and seriously wounded. Her daughter escaped with minor wounds from broken glass. In the second incident Torrance police officers did the damage. I erred in stating originally that LAPD officers were involved, and missed their targets, in both incidents and have adjusted the text above accordingly. I regret the errors and thank commenters for pointing them out.
Byron York reports that President Obama will return his attention to unemployment in his State of the Union Address on Tuesday. I can't wait. He seems to have wandered far from the subject over the last four years, but it's probably for the best. His ideas for reducing unemployment - best represented in the trillion-dollar stimulus bill of 2009 - retard the kind of economic growth that fosters the creation of jobs by businesses in the private sector.
Byron points out that unemployment escaped Obama's attention right through his inaugural address last month. One subject that did not escape his attention in the inaugural address came in a sentence I noted but struggled to interpret: "Our journey is not complete until no citizen is forced to wait for hours to exercise the right to vote."
Now here's a clue to reading Obama. Whenever he mentions a "journey" that we are on, slow down for a close inspection. Check your pockets. Batten down the hatches. He's coming after us to go somewhere we don't want to go in order to reach a destination we would really be better off avoiding.
I know I waited a little long in line to vote on election day. I felt good doing so, but I know it's not my cause that Obama is championing. What was Obama talking about? I thought he must be setting us up for expedited and enhanced amplification of the Democratic vote through Internet voting or some such scheme, and I wasn't too far off.
Obama was in fact previewing his promotion of the so-called Voter Empowerment Act of 2013. Truth in packaging would label it the Democratic Empowerment Act. In the Wall Street Journal's weekend interview column, James Taranto meets up with Hans Von Spakovsky to get a look at what is barreling down the pike:
Several liberal Democrats have already introduced a bill styled the Voter Empowerment Act of 2013.
The effort is a cynical partisan undertaking, according to election lawyer Hans von Spakovsky. In December, some "three dozen of the most powerful liberal advocacy groups, including union organizations," held a strategy session, he says, citing a report from the liberal magazine Mother Jones. They agreed to "oppose all voter integrity efforts, things like voter ID," to push for federal legislation requiring states to permit voter registration on Election Day, and to institute "automatic" voter registration.
"They basically want to use the government to do Democratic voter outreach and voter registration for them," Mr. von Spakovsky says. "They believe that if they can get, for example, everyone registered to vote who is currently getting government benefits like welfare . . . then that will somehow get them more votes at the polls and make it easier to win elections."
The Voter Empowerment Act would also mandate automatic registration of individuals on motor-vehicle, tax and university rolls, many of whom are aliens or have multiple addresses in different states: "You're basically going to be registering lots of people who are ineligible and leading to many duplicate registrations." The groups pushing such efforts-among them the Brennan Center for Justice [linked for the text of the draft of the law above], the ACLU and the NAACP-include "the same organizations that have been filing lawsuits over the past few years trying to prevent states from verifying the accuracy and eligibility of people on their voter-registration databases," Mr. von Spakovsky says.
It's a perfect adjunct to the immigration reform that Obama will undoubtedly also be touting on Tuesday night. Can anyone here put the pieces together?
The Washington Post reports that Jack Lew, President Obama's nominee for Treasury Secretary, held money in an investment fund registered in the very Cayman Islands building that Obama called a notorious haven for tax abuse. The address of the fund is a building called the Ugland House. Obama singled out that building in a 2009 speech against tax haven abuse. With his characteristic subtely, the president declared, "Either this is the largest building in the world or the largest tax scam in the world."
Obama's screeds against holding money in off-shore funds aren't limited to this occasion, of course. During the 2012 campaign, he attacked Mitt Romney on similar grounds.
Personally, I have no problem with Lew holding money in any legal investment instrument, and the fund in question appears to be perfectly legal. Moreover, there is no indication that Lew cheated on his taxes, as his predecessor Tim Geithner did. Thus, his use of what Obama calls a tax scam doesn't bear on his fitness to head the Treasury Department.
What we have, instead, is the umpteenth installment of Obama's nauseating hypocrisy. If I live long enough, I'm confident of one day learning that Obama himself has benefited from this or that mechanism he has denounced as a tax scam.
We know that George W. Bush is a Churchill fan who, unlike the current occupant of the White House, both welcomed and was honored by the British offer to have the Churchill bust in the Oval Office. We now know from the hacks of Bush's email that he emulates Churchill in other respect-as a painter. The Free Beacon has the details, but if you think the painting nearby of someone (I assume GWB himself) in a bathtub is odd, recall that Churchill luxuriated in the bathtub and frequently dictated speeches from his suds. I expect that the still glowing embers of BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome) will draw out churlish commentary from the Left any moment now.
Hence it is fitting and proper to recall a few of Churchill's words from "Painting as a Pastime" (found in the essay collection Thoughts and Adventures):
To have reached the age of forty without ever handling a brush or fiddling with a pencil, to have regarded with mature eye the painting of pictures of any kind as a mystery, to have stood agape before the chalk of the pavement artist, and suddenly to find oneself plunged in the middle of a new and intense form of interest and action with paints and palettes and canvases, and not to be discouraged by results, is an astonishing and enriching experience. I hope it may be shared by others. I should be glad if these lines induced others to try the experiment which I have tried, and if some at least were to find themselves dowered with an absorbing new amusement delightful to themselves, and at any rate not violently harmful to man or beast. . .
Churchill later described charging in on his first canvas:
So very gingerly I mixed a little blue paint in the palette with a very small brush, and then with infinite precaution made a mark about as big as a bean upon the affronted snow-white shield. It was a challenge, a deliberate challenge; but so subdued, so halting, indeed so cataleptic, that it deserved no response. From this chariot there stepped swiftly and lightly none other than the gifted wife of Sir John Lavery. "Painting! But what are you hesitating about? Let me have a brush, the big one." Splash into the turpentine, wallop into the blue and the white, frantic flourish on the palette, clean no longer, and then several large, fierce strokes and slashes of blue on the absolutely cowering canvas. Anyone could see that it could not hit back. No evil fate avenged the jaunty violence. The canvas grinned in helplessness before me. The spell was broker. The sickly inhibitions rolled away. I seized the largest brush and fell upon my victim with berserk fury. I have never felt any awe of a canvas since.
According to Khaled Abu Toameh at the Gatestone Institute website, there are reports that Hamas dispatched as many as 7,000 militiamen from Gaza to protect the regime of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi who faces a popular uprising. The reports quoted unidentified Egyptian security officials as saying that the Hamas militiamen had been spotted in the Egyptian border town of Rafah before they headed toward Cairo to shore up the Muslim Brotherhood regime of Morsi, which Hamas may have feared was in danger of collapse. The officials claimed that the Hamas militiamen had been deployed in a number of sensitive locations in the Egyptian capital, including the Al-Ittihadiyeh Presidential Palace.
These reports find support in documents published this week by a Gulf newspaper, Akhbar Al-Khaleej, that purport to show that Hamas, with the financial backing of Qatar, had plans to send hundreds of militiamen to Egypt to help Morsi's regime. One of the classified documents, signed by Hamas's armed wing, Izaddin al-Kassam, talks about the need to send "warriors to help our brothers in Egypt who are facing attempts by the former regime [of Hosni Mubarak] to return to power."
Hamas would, of course, have every reason to supply Morsi with shock troops, and not just because of their ideological afinity. As Toameh reminds us:
The downfall of the Mubarak regime has been a great blessing for Hamas, which has since emerged as a major player in the Palestinian and regional arena. Thanks to Morsi, an Egyptian prime minister visited the Gaza Strip for the first time ever last November to express solidarity with Hamas during Israel's "Pillar of Defense" military operation. Such a visit would have been unthinkable under Mubarak, who did everything he could to weaken Hamas and stop it from meddling in the internal affairs of Egypt.
But now Hamas knows that it can always rely on Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood to stay in power and increase Hamas's influence. In return, Morsi apparently expects Hamas to reward him by sending its men to defend his palace.
The Hamas connection should send a chill down the spines of anyone who still held onto hope that the Arab Spring would produce more, rather than less, freedom for Egypt. But it should also remind Americans that they are still sending more than $1 billion a year in U.S. aid and selling F-16 aircraft to Morsi's Egypt. Members of Congress who continue to back this foolish policy need to ask themselves whether it makes sense to funnel taxpayer dollars to Egypt in the hope of supporting regional stability if what they are really doing is bolstering a government that depends on Hamas terrorists to stay in power.
And while they are at it, members of the Senate should insist that Chuck Hagel, as a condition of a vote on his confirmation, produce the information that will tell us whether he received money from "Friends of Hamas" or like-minded outfits.
Introduced by Senator Jeff Sessions, Dr. Benjamin Carson spoke on Thursday this week at the National Prayer Breakfast to an audience that included President and Mrs. Obama up on the dais. Dr. Carson is a pediatric neurosurgeon who has lived a life of incredible accomplishment defying seemingly impossible odds. Watching the video, however, I couldn't help but wonder if Dr. Carson doesn't have a greater contribution to make outside the field of medicine. The Wall Street Journal, for one, declares rather forcefully that he does.
Watching the video, I also couldn't help but wonder what Obama was thinking. My guess is he was thinking: this is a dangerous guy. At a key point in Dr. Carson's speech, Obama appears to check his Blackberry - just so you might not think he was overly impressed. Speaking truth to glower! (Here are seven more reasons to be impressed.)
After quoting [P]roverbs, he says some bold things, dares to criticize the repressive habit of self-censorship we have fallen into thanks to political correctness. "PC is dangerous," he says, "it muffles people. It puts a muzzle on them and at the same time keeps people from discussing important issues while the fabric of this society is being changed...we need to start talking about things..."
He talks about coming up from poverty: he is the son of a poor, illiterate mother (herself one of 24 children) who was himself a "bad student" - [referring to a point she makes earlier in her post] the sort of kid California might decide needn't be expected to learn Algebra. He talks about the need to disenthrall ourselves from ideological fervor so intractable that it would rather the wrong thing than the right, if it means a "win" for "the party."
He says it all right in the face of the people who really need to hear it, but we all do. Do yourself a favor and watch. Benjamin Car[son] is a man of science and a man of faith; he puts the lie to the inane idea that the two are mutually exclusive, and suggests that balance is still possible.
Ms. Scalia omits Dr. Carson's thoughts on health care reform from her summary ("there's nobody talking about death panels"), which are also noteworthy. In any event, as Ms. Scalia says, the man has a message we all need to hear.
UPDATE: Dr. Robert Hartzler writes to add: "Ben Carson's book Gifted Hands is worth noting in Scott's post on his speech. I read it when I was about 10 years old and it inspired me to become a surgeon. He has a great life." The film version starring Cuba Gooding is also available on DVD.
I have long considered it ridiculous to report the political/social ravings of deranged murderers like Jared Loughner, the Tucson shooter. The salient point about these people is their derangement, not its ideological manifestation (ideology actually being too serious a word in these cases). And publicizing the ideological manifestation gives the lunatic a forum he doesn't deserve.
I've also believed that the publication by journalists of the political ravings of murderers is opportunistic. That is, biased journalists seek political advantage by trying (often in the most attenuated way) to connect the ravings with right-wing thinking.
Confirmation of my latter thesis can be found in the handling of Christopher Dorner's rambling manifesto in which he purports to explain himself. Dorner, it turns out, is a fan of President Obama, Dianne Feinstein, Colin Powell, Piers Morgan, Chris Matthews, Brian Williams, Soledad O'Brien, Wolf Blitzer, Meredith Vieira, Tavis Smiley, Anderson Cooper, and Ellen DeGeneres. Meanwhile, he reviles the NRA and Wayne LaPierre, believing that the latter's advocacy warrants the death of his family before his eyes.
But, as Charles Cooke points out, "in the combined 3,240 words of the lead stories from the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and the Associated Press, there is no mention whatsoever of the political contents of Dorner's screed." To be sure, they all mention the manifesto, but not what's in it, even in New York Times' specific post about the document.
Consistent with my first thesis, I agree with these editorial decisions, as does Cooke. But Cooke asks:
Had the killer instead praised Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, President George W. Bush, Wayne LaPierre, the NRA, and Proposition 8, and slammed the collection of journalists that he praised, perhaps singling out Piers Morgan for particular attention on the basis of his gun-control advocacy, what do you think the media's reaction would have been?
The answer is obvious based on what we've seen in the past. Cooke reminds us:
Bill Clinton didn't just blame Timothy McVeigh's actions on Rush Limbaugh and others at the time, but came back 15 years later for a another shot at the apple, libeling the Tea Party in the process. In 2010, both Dana Milbank and the Daily Kos went so far as to write pieces about a shooting that never happened, blaming the attempt on Glenn Beck. Piers Morgan happily asked Gabby Giffords's husband whether he had received an apology from Sarah Palin, and was astonished when the answer was "no."
This sort of opportunism is, among other things, an effort to undermine robust speech by one's political opponent. Everyone - Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, Piers Morgan, whomever - should feel free strongly to advocate their positions without worrying about being blamed if a madman distorts them into some sort of justification for their deranged framework. Only if the speaker advocates violence is the speaker to blame if his speech inspires violence.
Unfortunately, the MSM plays by these rules only when doing so suits its ideological purposes.
In northern France, one of that country's most famous paintings, Delaxroix's "Liberty Leading the People," was defaced yesterday by a young woman who wrote across the painting, in black marker, "AE911." What does that mean, you ask? It stands for Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth. The woman is a truther.
Truthers claim that the September 11 attacks were an inside job, carried out by the Bush administration. There is nothing so stupid but what some people will fall for it, apparently. But note the contrast: for the last five years, suggestions that Barack Obama may not have been born in the United States have been met with outrage. "Birthers" have been denounced by everyone in sight. The fact that polls suggest that quite a few Republicans believe that Obama wasn't born in Hawaii has caused commentators to denounce the GOP.
Yet polls also show that a large percentage of Democrats believe (or tell pollsters, anyway) that President Bush was behind the 9/11 attacks. This belief, far crazier than birtherism (which, lest there be any misunderstanding, is also false, in my view), has been subject to no parallel howls of denunciation. Why? It's not hard to figure out: Democrats in the press and elsewhere have not wanted to interfere with the smearing, however irrational, of President Bush and his administration.
Happily, Delacroix's painting was not permanently damaged. To my knowledge the perpetrator has not yet been identified, but she is described as having "psychiatric problems." That is certainly plausible. But in the world of liberals, the evidence that she is unbalanced is that she defaced a painting, not that she is a truther.
From Joe Asch comes word that the Dartmouth campus police are, in the words of the College's Media Relations department, "on the hunt for a student who allegedly verbally harassed two students." The object of this manhunt stands accused of speaking faux-Chinese to two Chinese students.
If captured, what will happen to the lout? According to the Media Relations Department, he could face expulsion. Other penalties could "include a mandatory sensitivity course or a paying a fine." Such is life at a modern liberal arts college.
Meanwhile, Asch notes that members of an African-American fraternity who physically beat pledges are serving three terms (one-year) of social probation. Why wouldn't social probation be sufficient punishment for the gibberish speaker?
Yesterday, Leon Panetta testified that he and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff backed a plan to aid selected groups fighting to overthrow Bashar al-Assad in Syria. Reportedly, the strategy was developed by then-CIA Director Petraeus and supported by then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
President Obama rejected the plan, however. The Washington Post's editors, citing reporting by the New York Times, attribute the decision to Obama's re-election campaign, during which he assured voters that "the tide of war is receding." After the election, Petraeus resigned, Clinton became ill, and the plan was not revived.
But, as the Post acknowledges, Obama's disinclination to become involved in Syria isn't just political - it has both ideological and pragmatic components. Obama is not an interventionist and he reportedly is concerned that intervening in Syria might make matters worse, by making the fighting even more bloody or by paving the way for an extremist takeover.
The latter concern shouldn't be dismissed. The CIA's proposal to back certain rebel groups came last summer. By then, hard-core anti-American Islamists were ascendant within the rebel movement. Aiding more agreeable factions (and who can be sure how much more agreeable they really are) might have helped shift the balance. However, it might also have hastened the victory over Assad and his replacement by an opposition dominated by radical factions hostile to our interests and values.
If so, our involvement would have ill-served the U.S. and Syria. Remember that the fall of Assad doesn't necessarily mean the end of bloodshed; it might mean the beginning of retribution against the minority groups that supported him.
In short, it's not so clear what the right call was regarding Syria last summer, or what the right call is now.
Two things seem clear to me, though. First, early in the conflict, before the jihadists became ascendant, the Obama administration should have identified, backed, and armed more moderate factions. Second, in selecting among the undesirable options now available, the Obama administration shouldn't be guided, as it seems to be, by domestic political considerations or by a presumption against the projection of U.S. influence through military means.
Elliott Abrams is the Senior Fellow for Middle Eastern Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations. His CFR blog is Pressure Points. He served, most recently, on the staff of the National Security Council staff during the Bush administration commencing in June 2001, first as a deputy assistant to the president and later as deputy national security adviser for global democracy strategy.
He is also the author of Tested By Zion: The Bush Administration and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, a definitive insider's account of the subject. "In Mr. Abrams's telling," Lee Smith writes in his excellent Wall Street Journal review, the book is "also a story about character. Do the actors tell beautiful lies about peace for their own self-glorification, or do they tell the truth-about Israel, about the Palestinians and about themselves?"
We invited Mr. Abrams to write something touching on the book that would let us bring it to the attention of our readers. He has graciously responded with this timely column:
One day in January 2006, I was on a visit to Jerusalem as the National Security Council official handling the Middle East for President Bush. It had been a long day, starting early, full of difficult meetings and a trip to Ramallah, and culminating in another meeting at the Consul General's house.
When that meeting ended I told the Consul General that I was dead tired and needed a nap before the dinner that was next on the schedule and would keep us going to midnight. Hold on, he said; stick around; this new senator from Illinois is coming to see me in 15 minutes; why don't you join the meeting? Naaah, I said, yawning; who, this guy Obama? Not much interested. I'll skip it.
Thus did I miss my chance to meet the young senator and find out, face to face, what he was thinking back then about his visit to Jerusalem. So, he is not a character in my new book, Tested By Zion: The Bush Administration and the Israeli-Palestinan Conflict. The account has to make do with dramatis personae who include Bush, Cheney, Condi Rice, Ariel Sharon, Yasser Arafat, Colin Powell, and the kings of Jordan, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia.
Now five years later, Obama is traveling to Jerusalem again-only this time we know a bit more about what he thinks. Judging by the last four years, he buys into the following views, all of which are just plain wrong:
-Jewish history starts in around 1933, and Zionism is the product of the Holocaust. -The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is the central issue in the Middle East. -Israeli settlements are the central problem to overcome in resolving the conflict. -Prime Minister Netanyahu is a bad guy and largely responsible for the lack of progress toward peace. -The best way to make progress is to forget pragmatic, incremental steps and try for a comprehensive final status agreement. -To get Israel to take difficult steps, the United States should criticize it publicly, create distance between our two countries, and make Israelis feel less and less secure.
But he's a good politician, and he must have realized by now that something has gone wrong. His four years as president have been the first in decades when there were no Israeli-Palestinian negotiations at all, and he has managed to lose credibility in Jerusalem and in Ramallah simultaneously. That would be hard to achieve if it were the actual goal, but turns out to be easy if your policy simply bears little relationship to reality.
The reality is this: Israelis want peace but do not believe the current Palestinian leadership is capable of delivering it. Gaza has seared into their minds the dangers of trading "land for peace" and getting instead more terrorism. They read nice speeches by the PLO leadership about peace and compromise, and then see the same leaders embracing Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and negotiating with Hamas for a "government of national unity." They also know that peace will require compromises that create risks for Israeli security, so they look around. How safe and stable is Egypt, or Jordan, Syria or Lebanon? How firmly can they rely on the United States and its president? How certain can they be that President Obama means it when he says "I am not bluffing" and "my policy is prevention" of an Iranian bomb?
Among the lessons Bush learned, as Clinton had learned before him, is that a secure Israel will take risks that an insecure, worried Israel wll not. I tell the story of the Bush-Sharon relationship in Tested By Zion, and it's clear that Sharon felt we really had his back-not because the president told Jewish audiences "I have their back" but because we backed him, in crisis after crisis. When he killed a terrorist we said "Israel has the right to defend itself." When an anti-Israel resolution was brought to the UN we quickly vetoed it-and avoided many others by letting it be known right at the start of negotiations that we were happily waiting for the opportunity to cast another veto. Netanyahu, and Israel in the Obama years, have clearly never felt this level of American support.
Now the president is returning to Jerusalem, approximately four years too late to do very much good. Still, he has a chance to say some useful things. The new list would be a bit different from the one above:
-He understands the ancient tie of the Jewish people to Israel as the Jewish homeland, and the pain caused by the very idea of giving up any piece of it. -Seeing the "Arab Spring," he understands that Israeli-Palestinian issues are peripheral to the main developments in the Arab world. -Palestinians should come to the negotiating table now, without any preconditions-including Israeli settlement activity and construction in Jerusalem. -Israel and the United States are close allies and always will be, and visible distance between us damages the interests of both countries. -He looks forward to working closely with Israel's new government and hopes that practical steps can be taken that advance toward what some day may be a comprehensive settlement.
It's hard to believe he will persuade very many Israelis, because opinions have hardened in the past four years, but they will appreciate the effort. I was with President Bush when he spoke to the Knesset in 2008. Obama and his speechwriters should read that speech, and see if they can understand why Israelis thought it a historic contribution to our bilateral relations and indeed to the history of Zionism. Here is some of what Bush said:
Sixty years ago in Tel Aviv, David Ben-Gurion proclaimed Israel's independence, founded on the "natural right of the Jewish people to be masters of their own fate." What followed was more than the establishment of a new country. It was the redemption of an ancient promise given to Abraham, Moses, and David - a homeland for the chosen people in Eretz Yisrael. Eleven minutes later, on the orders of President Harry Truman, the United States was proud to be the first nation to recognize Israel's independence. And on this landmark anniversary, America is proud to be Israel's closest ally and best friend in the world.
The alliance between our governments is unbreakable, yet the source of our friendship runs deeper than any treaty. It is grounded in the shared spirit of our people, the bonds of the Book, the ties of the soul.
Some people suggest that if the United States would just break ties with Israel, all our problems in the Middle East would go away. This is a tired argument that buys into the propaganda of our enemies, and America rejects it utterly. Israel's population may be just over 7 million. But when you confront terror and evil, you are 307 million strong, because America stands with you.
I have been fortunate to see the character of Israel up close. I have touched the Western Wall, seen the sun reflected in the Sea of Galilee, and prayed at Yad Vashem. Earlier today, I visited Masada, an inspiring monument to courage and sacrifice. At this historic site, Israeli soldiers swear an oath: "Masada shall never fall again." Citizens of Israel: Masada shall never fall again, and America will always stand with you.
Sixty years ago, on the eve of Israel's independence, the last British soldiers departing Jerusalem stopped at a building in the Jewish quarter of the Old City. An officer knocked on the door and met a senior rabbi. The officer presented him with a short iron bar - the key to Zion Gate - and said it was the first time in 18 centuries that a key to the gates of Jerusalem had belonged to a Jew. His hands trembling, the rabbi offered a prayer of thanksgiving to God, "Who had granted us life and permitted us to reach this day." Then he turned to the officer, and uttered the words Jews had awaited for so long: "I accept this key in the name of my people."
Over the past six decades, the Jewish people have established a state that would make that humble rabbi proud. You have raised a modern society in the Promised Land, a light unto the nations that preserves the legacy of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And you have built a mighty democracy that will endure forever and can always count on America to stand at its side. May God bless Israel.
ELLIOTT ABRAMS adds: I was wrong about the date of Obama's trip to Israel. This event must have been during his January 2006 visit to Israel. The text has been revised to incorporate this correction.

Benghazi--Where Was The Commander-In-Chief? By Paul E. Vallely CanadaFreePress.com
After the testimonies of Secretary Panetta, General Dempsey, and Hillary Clinton on the Benghazi tragedy, it appears the Commander-in-Chief, Barack Obama was off duty and not available to make a hard decision to press the military Chain of Command to rescue Americans under attack. The cover up appears to be a White House order to "Stand Down" and not issue a rescue mission operational order. For over seven hours he did nothing; no communications with his National Security team, and then he flew to Las Vegas for a campaign stop. "Weakness and dithering and flying to Las Vegas the next day for celebrity fund-raising parties are somehow better."

No Deal!
Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, released a statement yesterday rejecting the so-called "modification" submitted by the Obama administration to the HHS contraceptive mandate.
The administration had proposed allowing more religious groups to opt out of having to directly pay for the employees' contraceptives and abortion-inducing drugs. But it offered no exemptions for private businesses owned by committed Christians that don't want to pay for them.
Dolan's statement read, in part, "In obedience to our Judeo-Christian heritage, we have consistently taught our people to live their lives during the week to reflect the same beliefs that they proclaim on the Sabbath. We cannot now abandon them to be forced to violate their morally well-informed consciences."
Plus Catholic non-profits, such as Catholic schools and hospitals, would still be forced to buy healthcare plans from insurance carriers that, in turn, would be required to set up cost-free separate policies to provide the free birth control to all employees. This amounts to a requirement that religious-affiliated institutions find an intermediary that would provide contraceptive coverage for their employees.
Dolan said that the bishops will continue to support lawsuits fighting the regulation as they advance in federal courts.
The Left's Priorities
A federal lawsuit filed Thursday alleges that a portrait of Jesus displayed prominently in the entrance of an Ohio public school is in violation of the U.S. Constitution. The groups bringing the lawsuit, including The ACLU of Ohio and the Freedom From Religion Foundation, contend that the picture at the middle school promotes religion and they want it removed.
"The maintenance and display of the portrait has the effect of advancing one religion, improperly entangling the State in religious affairs and violating the personal consciences of plaintiffs," the lawsuit says.
The school superintendent told the Columbus Dispatch earlier that, "We're not violating the law and the picture is legal because it has historical significance. It hasn't hurt anyone." The school district is conducting an investigation of the issue now.
Our public schools have become birth control distribution clinics and centers of gang violence. Our kids' scores in just about every school seem to be dropping. But the Left's attention is focused on the constitutionality of a picture of Jesus. What an injustice.
Conservatives on the Hill are worried about the perception that their movement doesn't care about the real issues facing America. But I wonder where the public ever got the idea that the Left cares about their priorities when one of its top concerns is whether school children might catch a glimpse of Jesus.

'Non Compos Mentis' on Guns
February 8, 2013
"Speak seldom, but to important subjects, except such as particularly relate to your constituents, and, in the former case, make yourself perfectly master of the subject." --George Washington
White House photo
We often use the term "non compos mentis" to describe particularly outlandish pronouncements made by NeoComs or other "useful idiots" of the Left. The words are Latin for "not of sound mind," or, in short, insane. To be sure, that sums up all of so-called liberalism, but there are some subjects that seem to bring out the craziness more than others. The Second Amendment is one of them.
Last weekend, in an effort to portray Barack Obama as friendly to firearms, the White House backed up his boast of going skeet shooting "all the time" with a dubious photo of President "Skeeter" out at the range. (There's even an action figure now.) We soon outlined the reasons for our skepticism and then proceeded to have some fun at the president's expense, but the larger point is that the White House wants to marginalize as crazy any gun owners who call him on the gimmickry. Of course, we're not the ones who aren't of sound mind.
Many Beltway leftists have never held or fired a gun, much less actually know what they're talking about when it comes to the tools themselves or making policy regarding them. One of the most laughable examples is when Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) infamously described a barrel shroud as the "shoulder thing that goes up." Yet for a leading proponent and author of federal firearm legislation to be this ignorant is incredibly dangerous to Liberty.
Some insanity never ends. Joe "Non Compos Mentis" Biden, who after Newtown led the White House crisis exploitation team on gun policy, virtually threw out the Second Amendment when he said Wednesday, "It is clearly within the right of the government to determine what type of weapons can be owned by the public."
On the contrary, that's exactly what the Second Amendment is there to prevent.
Biden also lamented that 1,600 people have been killed by guns since Newtown. He didn't mention that 3,300 children will be killed by their own mothers today alone through abortion.
Meanwhile, when gun control doesn't actually reduce violence -- and it very rarely does -- leftists scramble for ways to explain it. White House adviser David Axelrod struggled this week to account for Chicago's shocking murder rate (42 already this year at the time of his comments), claiming that it's because "all around us are areas with weak laws and with very lax background checks and a lot of illegal guns flow into this city." Technically, he's correct: Guns used in Chicago crimes are often bought outside the city. But that's because there aren't any gun stores in Chicago. Criminals don't generally succeed in buying from licensed gun dealers, either. And Axelrod doesn't explain the low crime rate in surrounding communities.
Politicos aren't the only ones spouting crazy talk. Singer Tony Bennett showed an astounding ignorance of history when he said that if we don't enact strict gun control, it will be "the kind of turn that happened to the great country of Germany, where the Nazis came over and created tragic things and they had to be told off." Memo to Tony: If Germany's Jews had not been disarmed, millions of them might not have been slaughtered by their own government.
Certainly these leftists aren't heeding George Washington's advice to "speak seldom" and, when you do, "make yourself perfectly master of the subject."
Some final notes:
By way of rebutting the three stooges above, "universal background checks" enjoy more popular support than any other proposal. But we offer this caution: By statute, information obtained in a background check is not retained by agencies that do those checks. If new legislation doesn't contain that disposal provision, it would be a big hole that could become the "Universal Confiscation List." Think post-Katrina New Orleans. The government could then truly determine what we may own, and more of the nation could become like Chicago -- or worse.
Speaking of background checks, the FBI reports that the number experienced a significant drop in January. While it may appear that the rush to buy guns before a ban is abating, the real reason is simply that there's nothing left on the shelves to buy. "Skeeter" sure has earned his Gun Salesman Emeritus badge.
Some are suggesting that Dianne Feinstein's Defensive Weapons Ban will go nowhere, but we believe that Obama will continue expending a lot of political capital to ensure that he isn't embarrassed by its total defeat. The Senate Judiciary Committee heard testimony this week as legislation begins moving forward. Some expect a bill that includes everything but the ban on defensive weapons, as it would be more likely to pass without that. But House Democrats have introduced their own version of Feinstein's bill, complete with a ban on semiautomatic rifles.
Banning guns is central to the NeoCom agenda -- they can't subjugate the people when the people are armed. We strongly suggest that you keep pressure on your legislators, because this fight isn't over -- by a long shot.

"[I]f there's even one thing we can do to keep our children and our community safe -- [if] there's just one step we can take to prevent more families from feeling what they feel after they've lost a loved one -- we've got an obligation to take that step." --Barack Obama, still stumping for gun control on nothing but emotion
So he's trying to deflect the fact that AR-15s and other defensive weapons are responsible for very few deaths. They are, first and foremost, designed for defending Liberty, which is why the NeoComs want them outlawed.

Amid the hysteria on guns, two stories saw better light this week, while a third one broke. First, recall the man who last August wounded a security guard at Family Research Council national headquarters. He chose his targets, which included three other organizations, because he found information on the Southern Poverty Law Center's website listing them as "hate groups." The latter organization is infamous for slapping the "hate group" label on any organization with which it disagrees. Remember leftist outrage at Sarah Palin's PAC for putting election "targets" on congressional districts not long before Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot in Tucson in 2011. Now? Not a word.
Second, in the even more famous case of George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin, still more evidence has surfaced that Zimmerman was not the racist portrayed by the Leftmedia and Barack Obama. In fact, Zimmerman had a black business partner, helped black kids in the neighborhood and, as a registered Democrat, supported Obama in 2008 because, in the words of his brother Robert, "the president's club had been a club of white men since our founding." Zimmerman, who still sports tire tracks from the Obama Express, apparently personifies this truth: When it comes to Obama supporters, black trumps Latino, and thug trumps gun owner.
Third, former Los Angeles police officer Chris Dorner allegedly went on a shooting rampage this week, murdering one officer and two civilians, as well as wounding two more officers. As we go to press, he is still at large. Dorner, also a Navy veteran, was fired from the department in 2009 for making false statements, and now claims he is seeking to punish corruption within the LAPD. What is often missing from media coverage, however, is the part of his manifesto announcing that he's pro-Obama, pro-Hillary for 2016, pro-gun control and anti-NRA.

News From the Swamp: Sequester Politics
The White House missed its legally mandated deadline this week to submit a budget proposal to Congress. Shocking, we know. According to the law, the executive branch must propose a budget the first Monday in February, but for the fourth time in five years, Barack Obama failed to do so. There's no clear indication just when the Obama administration might fulfill its duty, assuming it's even on their to-do list, but there is a litany of excuses as to why they're late.
The president's number-crunchers claimed that the task is too daunting. Crafting a $4 trillion budget can't be easy, but the deadline for submission is well known, writing the budget is an annual process and the administration has months to do it. Yet his team acts like they were caught unaware by the volume of work to be done and the time frame in which to do it.
Press Secretary Jay Carney spun the White House's negligence by blaming Republicans for submitting "a highly partisan budget." What Carney refused to note is that House Republicans are the only ones actually making serious budget proposals. Every Obama budget that has been submitted to Congress has been overwhelmingly rejected (last year's version received zero votes), and the Democrat Senate hasn't passed a budget in four years. Carney suggested that reporters instead focus on "substance over deadlines." And by substance, he means bright, shiny objects like gun control and immigration that are meant to distract Obama's media lapdogs.
While staying busy not producing a new budget, Obama is also playing sequester politics in calling for Congress to stop the automatic budget cuts scheduled to hit March 1. On that date, the sequester will begin taking slices out of defense and domestic non-defense spending, adding up to $1.2 trillion in "cuts" (read: reductions in the rate of growth) over the next 10 years. These cuts have already been avoided once, but they were never supposed to become reality at all. The idea behind Obama's sequestration proposal (yes, it was his idea) was to create automatic spending "cuts" so scary that Republicans would have no choice but to strike a deal -- since it's worked so far.
Yet Democrats have made reaching a budget deal virtually impossible. They won't even consider touching entitlements, the primary drivers of the deficit. In fact, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) insists that no cuts will be made until Republicans agree to even more tax hikes. That was Obama's position during the fiscal cliff drama, and Republicans were foolish to ever believe that caving in on a $600 billion tax hike would satisfy the NeoComs' ravenous appetite for your money. Indeed, it only took six weeks for Obama to say, "[T]here is no doubt we need additional revenue."
We should note that we can thank the graduated income tax that turned 100 years old on Feb. 3 for this runaway government spending. The 16th amendment was ratified in 1913, and the federal government hasn't stopped growing since. On December 16th, 1773, "radicals" from Boston, members of a secret organization of American Patriots called Sons of Liberty, boarded three East India Company ships and threw 342 chests of tea into Boston Harbor. This iconic event, in protest of oppressive taxation and tyrannical rule, is immortalized as "The Boston Tea Party." It was launched in response to a three-pence tax on each pound of tea. Goodness, how times have changed.
The BIG Lie
"The American people need to understand that it's not as if we've done nothing for the debt. $2.6 trillion -- $2.6 trillion already we've made in cuts. And all those cuts have come from non-defense programs." --Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV)
Again, those "cuts" are merely reductions in the projected rate of growth over the next 10 years. Oh, and by the way, Reid's number includes the massive tax hikes Democrats forced through at the beginning of the year. Debt reduction? Hardly.
The Department of Health and Human Services released a new set of regulations last week meant to alleviate concerns that the ObamaCare contraception mandate violates religious liberty. A federal court ordered HHS to rewrite the rules after a lawsuit brought by two colleges demonstrated the violation of their First Amendment rights. The new regulations were carefully crafted to cater to the plaintiffs in this particular case, but they do nothing to address the broader concerns of religiously affiliated organizations or private business owners.
The original contraception mandate allowed that religious organizations claiming special status under the Internal Revenue Code could be exempt from the mandate if it violates their beliefs. The exemption, however, did not extend to Catholic charities, hospitals and schools, and the new regulations still don't solve this problem, much less for Christian-owned businesses like Hobby Lobby. Instead, insurance companies are still required to provide free contraception coverage directly to employees rather than through the businesses and organizations themselves. In the long run, of course, religious institutions will still pay for the coverage because the insurance companies will raise their premiums in order to provide the "free" services.
In other ObamaCare news, HHS claimed that it will cut a relative handful of unnecessary health care regulations from the books, saving $3.4 billion over five years. Practically, this cut means little in a $2.7 trillion health care economy, and it won't put a dent in the burden of ObamaCare, which already weighs in at 13,000 pages of regulations.
The Congressional Budget Office piled on even more bad news about ObamaCare, noting that the law will cause seven million people to lose their employer-based insurance, twice the original estimate. It makes even bigger the lie that Obama used to sell the law in the first place: "If you like your coverage, you can keep it." The CBO also noted that the insurance options in the marketplace will be narrower than originally anticipated, that Medicaid is unprepared for the influx of new enrollees and that ObamaCare subsidies for the insurance exchanges will cost $1 trillion through 2022, or 29 percent higher than projected just one year ago. The law's total cost will now be $1.3 trillion over a decade instead of $1.1 trillion, and instead of the "roughly $900 billion" that Barack Obama himself originally promised. Finally, the law will cost 127 million man-hours per year for compliance.

Meltdown! THIS long until world goes dark
Scientists are sounding the alarm: A solar superstorm as early as this year could wipe out America's way of life.
The worst part? You'd have a very small window of time to react ...
Imagine for a moment what the reaction would be if a REPUBLICAN president adopted Barack Obama's new policy of murdering U.S. citizens.
Well, rock star Ted Nugent has done the imagining for you, and he paints a classic and hilarious picture that will leave you in stitches. (Pun possibly intended).
Charl Van Wyk, who carried a gun to a church service, shot back at terrorists bent on mass slaughter and ultimately was credited with saving hundreds of lives, says politicians should rise above the "politically correct" and do what's right to save the lives of children and teachers.
Will Missouri lawmakers soon take the lead on legislation that actually addresses a main cause of violence involving guns, rather than blaming the guns themselves?
A short project called "Genius The Movie," which takes a look at the spiritual lives of the Beatles, has been named winner of a 2013 Telly Award in the category of "TV programs." The announcement comes from Ray Comfort, the producer of the movie, which is based on his companion book, "The Beatles, God, and the Bible."
"We want the freedom that God gave us, so you best not cross that line. If you want this gun you gotta to come through us and take it, one shot at a time."
Do you find those song lyrics controversial?
You'll want to hear who's censoring Obama critics now.
He's a top Republican kingpin who tells the world he cut his teeth working in the 1980 Ronald Reagan election campaign and subsequently played a role in the Reagan White House.
But there's just one problem: There's no evidence Karl Rove EVER worked for any Reagan campaign or in his administration.
Rock music legend Ted Nugent, one of the strongest voices in defense of the Second Amendment, is making his voice heard loud and clear as the latest debate over proposed gun-control legislation plays out.
Police in Los Angeles are conducting a massive manhunt for one of their own - an LAPD officer named Christopher Dorner, who is suspected of killing a three people and injuring two others.
Meanwhile, Dorner has issued a manifesto that reveals him to be virulently opposed to the National Rifle Association, a supporter of Barack Obama, a fan of CNN's Piers Morgan and, ironically, a supporter of gun control.
He hammered on advocates of traditional marriage. Slammed "birthers." Raged against the NRA. Told Piers Morgan he agrees "100 percent on enacting stricter firearm laws."
Now the ex-cop is believed to have picked up a gun, killed two people and planned to target his former, fellow police officers. Just who is "the LAPD murderer" ...

More hope that amnesty stampede will slow down (WITH YOUR HELP) -- Poll finds more voters prefer illegal aliens going home than getting citizenship
You need to read this to keep your spirits up. Every day, we are confronted with new media polls and media articles quoting polls telling us that a giant amnesty and Green Card increase WILL pass because most Americans want it. It can be pretty discouraging.
Just the constant media cheerleading for amnesty and the quoting of such polls tends to move many Americans to switch their position toward legalization for 11 illegal aliens. Most of the media are trying to create a sense of inevitability about the amnesty to demoralize opposition and convince Congress to let it happen.
But a new Pulse Opinion Research poll announced by the Center for Immigration Studies suggests that the bandwagon effort hasn't succeeded yet in turning Americans into amnesty lovers. Using neutral language that actually gives U.S. voters a choice between legalizing illegal immigrants and having them go home, the poll found this:
52% of likely voters responded that they prefer to see illegal immigrants in the United States go back to their home countries
33% said they prefer giving illegal immigrants legal status
And the poll found far more passion among Americans who agree with us than who agree with amnesty.
LOOK BELOW THE RED BOX FOR MORE DETA ILS ON THIS MOST ENCOURAGING POLL.
Reinforce Poll With These Actions
Your/our biggest task right now is to do all we can to shake politicians out of their trance of amnesty inevitability
Please go to your customized Action Board and take every action you find there to shower politicians with a different point of view than they are seeing in the news media. Your combined actions may be the only thing that will keep the drummed-up inevitability from becoming a real inevitability for amnesty. There is no doubt that the situation is serious. But the new poll shows that we can still leverage a lot of public support if we make a strong showing.
JUDICIARY HEARING REVEALS HUGE GULF BETWEEN SIDES & DIFFICULTY OF A COMPROMISE
Our Director of Content & Activism Chris Chmielenski has written two intriguing blogs about the first immigration hearing of the new House Judiciary Committee.
While most media stories have focused on the comments of a few House Republicans indicating far more willingness to compromise than we like, the hearings found Democratic witnesses and Members unwilling to show any sign of compromise -- and the Republicans in turn indicating that they refuse to give the Democrats anything close to everything they demand.
Anything can change, of course, but it is a very hopeful sign to read how far apart they are. The Washington Post was in despair today at the absence of common ground.
Read Chris' blogs and see what you think.
MORE ON THE POLL RESULTS
The key question was very simply stated:< /p>
"Would you like to see illegal immigrants in the United States go back to their home country or be given legal status."
Most media polls fail to give a choice and just ask if people support a "path to citizenship" if illegal aliens pay a fine, learn English and go through a background check. Or the choice they give is deportation.
The wording of the media polls tends to get a majority and even two-thirds for legalization or path to citizenship. I think that shows what I have long found that perhaps 20% of Americans tend to answer poll questions based on where they think the "spirit of the age" is blowing. This is where the media storyline of inevitability really moves the needle.
But the wording of the question on this poll shows how Americans really would prefer things worked out if it were possible.
And check out the passion results:
Of those who want illegal immigrants to head home, 73% indicated that they felt very strongly about that view
Only 35% of those who want illegal immigrants to get legal status said they felt very strongly about this view
But the passion on our side must show up in Washington D.C. NumbersUSA action tools are the No. 1 way that passion has traditionally revealed itself to politicians. Please take all the actions on your Action Board and refer the petition widely to increase the grassroots army that will have to mobilize to defeat the amnesty yet again.
When the poll gave two choices for why there is a large illegal population in the country:
71% said we have not made a real effort to enforce our immigration laws
18% said the cause is not letting in enough immigrants legally.
This shows very few Americans are ready to buy Homeland Security Chief Janet Napolitano's insistence this week that immigration laws are being enforced sufficiently.
It also shows little public agreement with the radical conservative voices saying the way to prevent illegal immigration is to offer as many Green Cards as there are foreign workers who can find a U.S. job.
The poll strongly backed the Republicans on the Judiciary Committee who kept asking witnesses why the American people should believe that immigration laws would be enforced after an amnesty so Congress won't be asked to pass another amnesty for another 11 million illegal aliens 10 years from now.
Nobody had any answers other than people just had to trust that it would happen this time (as opposed to what happened after the previous seven amnesties).
Asked if they had confidence that immigration laws would be enforced in the event of a legalization:
Just 27% expressed confidence that there would be enforcement
70% indicated that they were not confident immigration law would be enforced
Anti-amnesty Members of Congress -- incuding a fair number of Democrats -- are insisting that no discussion of amnesty can take place until all enforcement is fully implemented.
But the Democratic Members of the Gang of Eight have said that they will not accept any enforcement triggers that have to be met before the legalization takes place.
Every politician insisting on triggers will have the backing of a huge majority of Americans, according to the new poll. We need to give politicians the confidence to stick to their guns, so to speak, on the triggers issue. It looks to be a deal breaker.

The next time a cashier asks "paper or plastic?" think of Abbie Schoenwetter. He spent more than six years in federal confinement for shipping lobster in plastic instead of cardboard.
There's no American law against doing so. But thanks to a vague, overly broad, and otherwise unjust federal criminal law, the U.S. government claimed it was upholding a Honduran regulation.
Abbie Schoenwetter's business, health, and family life (he has a wife and three kids) were wiped out because unreasonable federal prosecutors used an unjust law to target Abbie and a Honduran fisherman from whom Abbie purchased his seafood.
He's finally free now. But he notes that "The worst thing anybody can do to you is take away your freedom."
Indeed, the purpose of the U.S. Constitution is to secure the rights and liberties promised in the Declaration of Independence.
Today, though, the federal government has acquired a nearly unquestioned dominance over virtually every area of American life.
The scope and depth of its rules means that the national government increasingly regulates more and more of our most basic activities, from how much water is in our toilets to what kind of light bulbs we can buy. This is a government that is increasingly unlimited, undemocratic, and damaging to popular self-government.
Conservatives want to restore real limits on a government that is out of control.
This will not occur all at once or across the board. Nor will it result from one judicial decision, presidential order, or comprehensive piece of legislation. We will be strategic, defining and pursuing a realistic path that measurably reintroduces constitutional limits - by focusing government on its primary obligations, restoring its responsibility and democratic accountability, and correcting its worst excesses.
America's Opportunity for All, Heritage's new plan that we have been highlighting all week, includes rebuilding constitutional self-government. Some sensible steps include:
Policymakers should execute the law, not simply make it up. The President, judges, and Members of Congress all take oaths to uphold the Constitution in carrying out the responsibilities of their offices. That means the President should appoint, and the Senate should use its advice and consent role to confirm, only constitutionally faithful judges. Also, judges increasingly seek to impose their own policy preferences on the nation. Candidates and officeholders should promote robust debate regarding the importance of approving constitutionalist judges.
Reverse the explosion of federal criminal law. Congress must halt the overcriminalization rampage and begin to eliminate vague, overbroad criminal offenses that punish individuals who, without criminal intent, violate one of these innumerable federal statutes.
Dismantle the administrative state. Administrative agencies and vast bureaucracies operate as an unelected fourth branch of government. Congress should reassert its authority by taking responsibility for all laws and regulations that govern us.
Build support for limited government. For too long, Congress has passed massive laws written behind closed doors, filled with arcane cross-references that most Members of Congress neither read nor understand. Our leaders should legislate clearly and openly. Each House of Congress should adopt a rule requiring the public posting of the text of each bill and major amendment not less than 72 hours before floor debate on that bill or amendment.
Encourage federalism. Work with state legislatures and governors, especially to slow the implementation of Obamacare and instead develop real health care solutions that work.
How does the government meddle in your life? Tell us in the comments.

Doubling Down on Anti-Gun News By L. Brent Bozell III After Newtown, as one might suspect, network stories advocating more gun control dominated. But "outnumbered" is an understatement. They smothered stories tilting against gun control by 99 to 12, or more than 8 to 1. The networks again demonstrated that there's no story on which they can't dramatically stack the deck. Liberal news stories lead to liberal legislation. They know it and relish it.
Is America Ensnared in an Endless War? By Patrick J. Buchanan Congress, the administration and the American people need to ask: Why have we been unable to bring this war on terror to a "swift end"? Why has the battlefield in the war on terror not narrowed, but expanded from South Asia to the Middle East to North Africa? What is Obama's plan, the Republicans' plan, for ending or winning this war, whose scope widens with each year? If we do not end this war, this war will one day bring an end to the freedom for which the Fathers fought.
The Blame Righty Mob Falls Silent By Michelle Malkin How many times over the past four years have exploitative liberal journalists and Democratic leaders rushed to pin random acts of violence on the tea party, Republicans, Fox News and conservative talk radio? Droning On By Rich Galen Life was so much easier for Mr. Obama just three months ago when all he had to do was accuse Mitt Romney of exporting jobs.
With over 8 million people mysteriously disappearing from the US workforce during President Barack Obama's first term, experts are working on a number of theories to explain this riddle, the most commonly mentioned reason being alien abductions occurring throughout the US on an extraordinarily massive scale.

Panetta shock testimony: Obama Absent the Night of Benghazi
More news the media will ignore -- apparently Barack Obama had little to no interest in getting updates throughout the night of Sept 11, 2012 during the attack on Benghazi. Leon Panetta gave some pretty startling testimony today, admitting the President was basically "not there" or even involved while a U.S. ambassador was under attack by terrorists. Panetta's testimony and Glenn's reaction can be found HERE.
Hillary Clinton was allegedly "shocked" when Sen. Rand Paul asked her about guns the United States government was smuggling to resistance groups fighting against Syria's President Assad. Paul's question was nothing new - the New York Times and other outlets had already uncovered it. Panetta even confirmed that Hillary herself approved the operation. Glenn explains why the entire Benghazi fallout is one big act by this administration. WATCH
