"Strangers are welcome because there is room enough for them all, and therefore the old inhabitants are not jealous of them; the laws protect them sufficiently so that they have no need of the patronage of great men; and every one will enjoy securely the profits of his industry. But if he does not bring a fortune with him, he must work and be industrious to live."

Syria Crosses Israel's WMD Red Line
January 31, 2013 By Daniel Greenfield
On Sunday, Israeli Vice Prime Minister Silvan Shalom told Army Radio that the country's top security officials had held a special meeting and warned that the transfer of Syrian chemical weapons to Hezbollah would be crossing a line that would mean action.
It was not the first time that Israel had warned Assad not to follow in the footsteps of his former ally, Saddam Hussein, but it was the sharpest warning to date. The warning was clearly meant to head off a specific course of action by Syria. But true to form, Bashar Assad did not listen.
Yesterday, it was reported that Israeli jets struck a convoy headed from Syria to Lebanon. The convoy reportedly contained SA-17 anti-aircraft missiles as well as some of the SSRC's special toxic brew.

Black helicopters? Army says don't worry
Military explains Special Ops units doing 'urban training'
by Bob Unruh
Bob Unruh joined WND in 2006 after nearly three decades with the Associated Press, as well as several Upper Midwest newspapers, where he covered everything from legislative battles and sports to tornadoes and homicidal survivalists. He is also a photographer whose scenic work has been used commercially.More ↓Less ↑
Been seeing black helicopters overhead? Uniformed troops with guns drawn? Armored vehicles cruising through your residential neighborhood? Worry not; it's just the U.S. military's Special Operations Command doing "realistic urban training" for military maneuvers on site in cities across the United States because that's what they need to be able to do, according to the military. One of the reports in just the past few days came from Miami. There, the Herald reported military helicopters were "buzzing" neighborhoods. It was similar to April 2011, the report said, when military helicopters "buzzed through Brickell, leading to sleepless nights for some people and a lot of griping on social media about it." And KTRK in Houston reported the sound of gunfire and the helicopters overhead "created a lot of concern Monday afternoon in one Houston neighborhood."

'Racist Witch!': The Left Goes Nuts After Falling for Parody Site's Fake Story About Ann Coulter
The Blaze | Jason Howerton | Jan. 31, 2013 7:20pm
The Daily Currant, like The Onion, is a parody site. In other words, the stories that they publish are not intended to be taken seriously as they are entirely false.
But that didn't stop several people from reporting one of the Daily Currant's stories about conservative firebrand Ann Coulter as fact. The story, titled "Ann Coulter Refuses to Board Airplane With Black Pilot," argued that Coulter refused to board a plane because she feared the black pilot got her job as a result of affirmative action, thus making her unqualified to fly. This is, of course, completely false.

American Idol Hopeful Gives Agonizing Rendition of National Anthem, Forgets Words, Praises Obama
Gets Through to Next Round !
The Blaze | Jason Howerton | Jan. 31, 2013 10:00pm
Auditioning for the upcoming season of American Idol in Oklahoma City, 19-year-old Zoanette Johnson gave a very unique rendition of the Nation Anthem. She experimented with an odd musical arrangement, struggled with high notes and ultimately forgot some of the words to the song.
To put it another way, when she hit the famous "free" note, host Keith Urban fell out of his chair.
Despite all of that, Zoanette is still going to Hollywood. That's right, the judges decided to send her through to the next round anyway.
While many will speculate how in the world she didn't get four "no" votes, perhaps it was all the heavy praise for President Barack Obama that softened the judges.

Armed Guard Stops School Shooter After He Opened Fire at Atlanta Middle School
The Blaze | Jason Howerton | Jan. 31, 2013 10:06pm
ATLANTA (AP) - A student opened fire at his middle school Thursday afternoon, wounding a 14-year-old in the neck before an armed officer working at the school was able to get the gun away, police said.
Multiple shots were fired in the courtyard of Price Middle School just south of downtown about 1:50 p.m. and the one boy was hit, Atlanta Police Chief George Turner said. In the aftermath, a teacher received minor cuts, he said.

- February 15 - March 27, 2013 - Debt Ceiling: Sometime in this date range we are expected to reach the debt ceiling (Technically we have already hit the debt ceiling, but this is the date range when we will reach a point where the Treasury can no longer implement "extraordinary measures" to meet our spending obligations.

2013 Salute Our Troops!
Live Broadcast & Luncheon Event
Presidents Day, Monday, February 18, 2013, 11 AM Crowne Plaza Valley Forge - 260 Mall Blvd - King Of Prussia, PA
Hosted by Dom Giordano and WPHT 1210 AM
Dear Members and Friends,
The major political battles of 2013 are about to commence.
Last year, the Association successfully lobbied against the phony "school choice" bill, SB 1, and supported HB 1330--the budget neutral expansion of the EITC scholarship fund . A version of HB 1330 was attached to another bill, approved by the Assembly, and signed into law by Governor Tom Corbett.
In addition, very early on, the Association backed the PA Voter ID bill--which also passed the Assembly and was signed into law.
Finally, the Association successfully lobbied the respective Governors of NJ and PA, Chris Christie and Tom Corbett, against establishing state health insurance exchanges--a fundamental requirement of ObamaCare.
This year, the Association will focus its limited funding, energy, and resources on a handful state and federal issues.
In this letter, we will emphasize important state battles shaping up in Harrisburg, Trenton, and Dover.
Harrisburg
Pennsylvania Right to Work is topic #1 as State Rep. Darryl Metcalfe and other legislators announce the reintroduction of a Right to Work bill during today's 11 AM Harrisburg Presser (details below).
Next on the agenda is State Rep. Matt Baker's Opt Out of ObamaCare legislation. This bill cleared the House Health Committee last session--only to whither on the vine. We must pass the bill in this session and persuade Gov. Corbett to sign it into law.
Also, we have been working behind the scenes with State Reps. Stephen Barrar and Darryl Metcalfe to enact legislation allowing any registered Pennsylvania voter to poll watch at any precinct within the boundaries of the Commonwealth.
Trenton
In New Jersey, we will press Governor Christie to veto proposed bills seeking to increase the minimum wage and restrict 2nd Amendment Rights.
Dover
In Delaware, we will join efforts to stop the numerous gun control bills that have been introduced in the state legislature.
In the coming days, there will be plenty of opportunities for us to demonstrate our commitment to conservative values.
From tomorrow's Right to Work press conference to Dom Giordano's Salute Our Troops (Presidents Day, February 18), there are two terrific events being hosted by four great organizations.
1. Right to Keep & Bear Arms--A Peaceful Demonstration
When: Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, 10 AM
Where: State Capitol, 125 West State Street, Trenton, NJ
Sponsored by the New Jersey Second Amendment Society
2. 2nd Annual Salute Our Troops! Live Broadcast and Luncheon
When: Presidents Day, Monday, February 18, 2013, 11 AM
Where: Crowne Plaza Valley Forge, 260 Mall Blvd, King of Prussia, PA
Cost: $25 per person
Hosted by Dom Giordano and WPHT 1210 AM.

Before signing-off, I would like to acknowledge one of the saddest anniversary dates in our nation's history.
Forty years ago today, Roe v. Wade became the law of land--overturning some form of legal protection for unborn children in every state in the union.
Since that tragic day, it is estimated that well over 50 million lives have been ended through the controversial practice of abortion.
Whether you are pro-life or pro-choice, as a conservative, you must
recognize the disastrous legal consequences of the US Supreme Court's decision which made a mockery of states rights.
We can all agree that the Warren Court's decision demonstrated a virulent contempt for the US Constitution and its 10th Amendment.
We can also agree that taxpayer funded abortion is a grave moral affront to those among us who believe that the sanctity of innocent human life is paramount.
On behalf of the Association Board of Directors,
Teri Adams

Metcalfe Seeks to Make Federal Gun-Grabbing A Criminal Offense in Pennsylvania
|
HARRISBURG - State Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) today announced his legislation that would make any new federal gun control laws unenforceable within the Commonwealth.
"Passage of my legislation will send the message that there will never be additional gun control, anywhere in Pennsylvania," said Metcalfe. "Whether by White House executive orders, congressional fiat, or judicial activism, we will never allow the left to benefit from the wicked acts of murderers in order advance their senseless gun-grabbing agenda which would only succeed in replacing one of our most sacred personal liberties with the chains of government tyranny."
Similar to legislation most recently introduced in Wyoming and Texas, Metcalfe's Right to Bear Arms Protection Act (House Bill 357) would:
- Prohibit enforcement of any new federal registration, restriction or prohibition requirement for privately owned firearms, magazines and ammunition.
- Require the state of Pennsylvania, including the Office of Attorney General, to intercede on behalf of Commonwealth citizens against any federal attempt to register, restrict or ban the purchase or ownership of firearms and firearms accessories which are currently legal products.
Final enactment of Metcalfe's Right to Bear Arms Protection Act would mean that anyone - even federal agents - who try to enforce any type of gun control restriction within state borders would face arrest and being charged with a felony offense.
"The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned," said Metcalfe. "Article 1, Section 21 of the Pennsylvania Constitution makes it crystal clear that no level of government, especially the federal government, has any authority whatsoever to impose senseless restrictions on law-abiding firearms owners, or worse, the confiscation of legally owned firearms. The purpose of my legislation is to force any gun-grabbing federal official to count the costs of unconstitutionally disarming or denying Pennsylvania citizens their God-given right to keep and bear arms."
Metcalfe is also calling on all Pennsylvania citizens who support Constitutional liberty to attend Pennsylvania's annual Second Amendment Action Day on Tuesday, April 23, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the State Capitol Rotunda, and to sign the all-new Armed Pennsylvania: Say to No Gun Control petition by visiting RepMetcalfe.com.

ZOA: Senators Should Vote to Reject Hagel
More Horrific Hagel Statements - Israelis Keep "Palestinians Caged Up Like Animals," Iran Should Not Be Isolated, Supports Fatah/Hamas Merger
The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) has pointed to further, alarming statements made by President Barack Obama's nominee for Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel, and urged senators to vote against confirming him in that office.
The far-left J Street, which present itself as a pro-Israel group, has now released the video of Hagel's speech to its 2009 conference, in which Hagel said that he opposed isolating Iran through diplomacy and sanctions, saying, "How in the world do we think isolating someone is going to bring them around to your way of thinking?"
Hagel also subscribed to the discredited 'linkage' argument, which contends that the Middle East can be greatly tranquilized and U.S. relations with Arab states enhanced if the U.S. pressures Israel into a peace agreement with the Palestinians. Hagel said, "The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is central, not peripheral, to U.S. vital security interests in combating terrorism, preventing an Iranian nuclear weapon, stability in the Middle East and U.S. and global energy security."
Echoing the views of hostile anti-Israel figures Brent Scowcroft and Zbigniew Brzezinski, Hagel suggested imposing a peace agreement on Israel, saying, "I think we are getting close to the time where something has to be laid down here on this."
Hagel also called for a Fatah-Hamas merge, saying, "No peace will be possible nor sustainable as long as the Palestinians remain a house divided." He did not mention any conditions for Hamas
Also, Hagel seemed to refer, like Israel's Arab enemies, to Israel's capital being Tel Aviv, not Jerusalem, when said, "It's always difficult for leaders to step forward, either in Ramallah, Tel Aviv, Riyadh or Cairo." ('Sen. Chuck Hagel at the first J Street Conference,' Youtube, January 29, 2012). Other than Tel Aviv, all the other cities named by Hagel are Arab capitals.
Additionally, a report in the Washington Free Beacon has unearthed a Hagel statement that appeared in a Nebraska newspaper, the Lincoln Journal Star, on January 12, 2003, in which Hagel said that Israel was "keep[ing] Palestinians caged up like animals" ('Hagel in 2003: Israel Keeps "Palestinians Caged Up Like Animals,"' Washington Free Beacon, January 9, 2013).
ZOA National President Morton A. Klein said, "These newly unearthed statements by Hagel simply reinforce the fact that Hagel has a virtually unrivaled record of hostility to Israel, bigotry towards Jews and gays, disbelief in the importance of a strong U.S. military, indulgence of Middle Eastern terrorist groups like Hizballah and Hamas, and antipathy towards any conceivable measure - economic or military - for preventing Iran becoming a nuclear power if negotiations fail.
"These statements afford further reasons for the Senate to vote against confirming Chuck Hagel as Defense Secretary and we urge senators to do so."
Please continue to call both of your U.S. senators and respectfully ask that they oppose the nomination of Chuck Hagel as secretary of defense. Please ask friends, relatives, colleagues and all of your electronic contacts to call as well.

Individuals sympathetic to the Muslim Brotherhood's sinister agenda have infiltrated the Obama Administration.
Brainwashed by the Muslim Students Association and then propelled in to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the David Horowitz Freedom Center tracks the path of Huma Abedin and other Muslim sympathizers who have navigated their way into positions of great influence in the Obama Administration. Everything is revealed in the explosive new Freedom Center pamphlet, "The Muslim Brotherhood in the Obama Administration," written by Frank Gaffney, national security expert who served as Assistant Secretary of Defense under Ronald Reagan.
The David Horowitz Freedom Center is committed to educating the public on the Muslim Brotherhood's sinister Agenda. That is why we are giving away this pamphlet for FREE.

A Plan to Stop Agenda 21
It's time to get very serious about stopping the forces of tyranny. There is no tomorrow. That's why today I am preparing a plan for the strongest action ever taken to stop Agenda 21. But I need your help to make it work. Enclosed with this letter, is a " Stop Agenda 21 Proposed Budget." This is a major push forward for APC in the battle to stop Agenda 21, and I need you to look it over and sign your approval to it. Let me explain this vital project. Across the nation, individuals and local activists have been working to stop the ravages of Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development. And we have won some astounding victories. We've made Agenda 21 a major issue. But we are vastly outgunned by the Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that are pushing this agenda from the UN all the way to your city council. They are flooding state capitals with lobbyists, money, and a flood of issue documents. They are rich, powerful and well organized. We aren't. We are a rag tag band of dedicated activists with passion for the cause of freedom and little else. That has got to change. Our activists need the tools necessary to win. That's just what my "Stop Agenda 21" project is designed to provide. Here are the details:

Man, Sex, God, and Yale
Nathan Harden Editor, The College Fix
|
 |
NATHAN HARDEN is editor of The College Fix, a higher education news website, and blogs about higher education for National Review Online. A 2009 graduate of Yale, he has written for numerous publications, including National Review, The Weekly Standard, The American Spectator, The New York Post, and The Washington Times. He was a 2011 Robert Novak Fellow at the Phillips Foundation, a 2010 Publius Fellow at the Claremont Institute, and is author of the recent book Sex and God at Yale: Porn, Political Correctness, and a Good Education Gone Bad.
|
The following is adapted from a speech delivered at Hillsdale College on September 20, 2012.

In 1951, William F. Buckley, Jr., a graduate of Yale the year before, published his first book, God & Man at Yale. In the preface, he described two ideas that he had brought with him to Yale and that governed his view of the world:
"I had always been taught, and experience had fortified the teachings, that an active faith in God and a rigid adherence to Christian principles are the most powerful influences toward the good life. I also believed, with only a scanty knowledge of economics, that free enterprise and limited government had served this country well and would probably continue to do so in the future."
The body of the book provided evidence that the academic agenda at Yale was openly antagonistic to those two ideas-that Buckley had encountered a teaching and a culture that were hostile to religious faith and that promoted collectivism over free market individualism. Rather than functioning as an open forum for ideas, his book argued, Yale was waging open war upon the faith and principles of its alumni and parents.

Union Leaders' Epiphany Leaves Them Scrambling: Wait, Obamacare Is Going to Drive up Our Costs?
Jan. 31, 2013
Members of trade unions join Occupy Wall Street protesters as they rally in Foley Square, New York, Oct. 5, 2011. (Stan Honda/AFP/Getty Images)
Imagine the following scene:
A handful of union bosses crowd around an old card table, punching numbers into their calculators. They've been up all night. Someone puts on another pot of coffee and a few of the older bosses are starting to fall asleep. Those who are still alert and active scratch their heads and re-enter their calculations.
"Oh, my gosh!" one of them shouts, concluding the all-night exercise. "'Obamacare' is going to cost us!"
Yes, according to a recent report from the Wall Street Journal, union leaders (i.e. the same people who campaigned tirelessly in favor of universal healthcare) are trying to figure out a way to avoid paying for the costs associated with "Obamacare."
From the WSJ:
Labor unions enthusiastically backed the Obama administration's health-care overhaul when it was up for debate. Now that the law is rolling out, some are turning sour. Union leaders say many of the law's requirements will drive up the costs for their health-care plans and make unionized workers less competitive. Among other things, the law eliminates the caps on medical benefits and prescription drugs used as cost-containment measures in many health-care plans. It also allows children to stay on their parents' plans until they turn 26. To offset that, the nation's largest labor groups want their lower-paid members to be able to get federal insurance subsidies while remaining on their plans. In the law, these subsidies were designed only for low-income workers without employer coverage as a way to help them buy private insurance.

IRS: Cheapest Obamacare Plan Will Be $20,000 Per Family
By Matt Cover | January 31, 2013
(CNSNews.com)- In a final regulation issued Wednesday, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) assumed that under Obamacare the cheapest health insurance plan available in 2016 for a family will cost $20,000 for the year.
Under Obamacare, Americans will be required to buy health insurance or pay a penalty to the IRS.
The IRS's assumption that the cheapest plan for family will cost $20,000 per year is found in examples the IRS gives to help people understand how to calculate the penalty they will need to pay the government if they do not buy a mandated health plan.

RedState Morning Briefing
For February 1, 2013
1. We Can Win (If We Start Doing the Right Things)
Conservatives, we can talk all we want about fixing the message and following principles, but even if we fix both-we can't win elections if we keep using campaign tactics like it's 1999. For a real conservative comeback, we don't need to become Democrats. We need to become conservatives with brains.
Right now, conservatives' technological lifeblood could use a dose of digital steroids. But, some of us on the Right are on, dare I say, the right path.
Voter Gravity, the database technology tool developed with the great Political Gravity guys and American Majority Action, got some love from techPresident, but since the article is behind a paywall, I thought I'd highlight a few blurbs about Voter Gravity and the future of campaign technology.
"Gravity was a novelty on the right: It was a mobile interface into voter data designed for grassroots advocates. . . .A smattering of other right-wing groups, including FreedomWorks, enjoyed the benefits of this new tool. While its deployment was limited and it had its own share of bugs, the software is a sign that there's still technological life among conservatives." . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2. Baltimore Police Chief Johnson: The Folly of a Blue City Politician
At yesterday's Senate hearing on gun control, Ted Cruz once again stood out as an articulate voice for commonsense. After declaring the Senate to be a "fact-free zone," he went on to destroy the myth that there is a consequential difference between an "assault weapon" and a regular semi-automatic rifle. You can watch him in action for the first 3.5 minutes of the clip. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3. Thanks to Democrats, poor families getting squeezed on Obamacare exchanges.
They're calling it a "glitch." Goodness gracious:
"Some families could get priced out of health insurance due to what's being called a glitch in President Barack Obama's overhaul law. IRS regulations issued Wednesday failed to fix the problem as liberal backers of the president's plan had hoped." . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4. Reflections on the American Revolution: The Generals
How did America win its independence? In Part I of this essay, I looked at the population trends, foreign alliances, and equipment and weather conditions under which the American Revolution was fought. Let's add some thoughts on the leaders of the principal combatants: the American and British generals. The American command was far from perfect - but the war could have turned out very differently if the American side had not had the advantages of leadership it did, first and foremost the singular character of George Washington. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

The one thing that Hagel, Kerry and Brennan all have in common, besides being Washington insiders, is that they all agree that terrorism is basically a misunderstanding. All three fancy themselves men of the world who know more than the peasants back home because they have spent a few days being shepherded through high level meetings in Brussels, Riyadh and Beijing. They have spent decades marinating in talking points and they know, for example, that terrorism is due to poverty and that Islamic terrorists aren't really Muslim, they just try to convince us that they are to trick us into going to war with Islam. Most of all they know that we can't beat the terrorists on the battlefield, all we can hope to do is wage a war for their hearts and minds, empowering moderates by resolving grievances until the extremists are discredited and peace reigns on earth. Every word of it is nonsense, but national policy runs on nonsense. In the last four years the government has run massive deficits to save the economy, compelled everyone to buy health insurance to fix health care and flirted with minting a trillion dollar coin to cover its debts. A policy's obvious ridiculousness only ranks it higher in the estimation of idiots insiders who confuse stupidity with out-of-the-box thinking. Whether it's domestic crime or the international rise of a terrorist movement, the left clings to its sociological security blanket explaining everything in terms of poverty and disenfranchisement. It doesn't matter to the idiot left whether they are dealing with gangs in Oakland, Marxist terrorists in Nicaragua, drug dealers in Chicago, Communist guerrillas in Vietnam, race riots in New York or Muslim terrorists in Afghanistan; to them it's all reducible to the same tired formula of Imperialism + Capitalism = Poverty and Resistance to be solved with day care centers and grievance commissions. Leftists love moving to Chicago slums, Afghan caves or Latin American peasant villages, living with the natives, struggling with their toilets and finding deep spiritual meaning in their simple lives. And despite learning to speak their language, badly, and taking enough photos of them to populate a museum, they invariably leave without a clue about who the locals are and what makes them tick. But that's because they assume that they already know what makes them tick. Oppression. And with that covered, they never bother to learn anything of more significance than a greeting and a goodbye.

Hagel's Hot Hearing Barack Obama's nominee for Secretary of Defense, former Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel, testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee today and ran into a well-deserved "buzz saw." Liberal websites were burning up the blogosphere this afternoon with commentators saying Hagel's performance was a "disaster." Unlike the Hillary Clinton hearings on the Benghazi scandal, Republican senators were well-prepared today to expose Hagel's record. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) asked Hagel why the Iranians had endorsed his nomination. Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) went after Hagel on why he voted against imposing sanctions on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, which has been directly involved in the deaths of American troops in Iraq. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) questioned Hagel's "professional judgment" and grilled Hagel over his opposition to the successful surge in Iraq. Sen. Deb Fischer, the newly-elected freshmen senator from Nebraska, blasted Hagel, saying, "I continue to believe you hold extreme views far to the left even of those of the [Obama] administration." Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) dismantled Hagel's word games. Hagel did his best to dodge his own record. "No one individual vote, no one individual quote, no one individual statement defines me, my beliefs, or my record," he told the committee. Sorry, Chuck, but that's precisely the problem. It isn't just one vote or one quote -- it's a very long and disturbing record of indefensible votes and outrageous quotes, any one of which should disqualify him to be Secretary of Defense. In fact, Hagel's attempt to rewrite his history of appeasement toward Iran and hostility toward Israel is nothing more than a barely disguised charade to win the confirmation vote. He hasn't seen the light. He is feeling the heat. TAKE ACTION: Click here to send a message to your senators urging them to vote against Chuck Hagel's nomination. Boy Scouts Face Backlash News that the Boy Scouts of America is reconsidering its policy to allow openly homosexual scout masters has touched off a firestorm of controversy. Judging by the messages I am receiving from former Eagle Scouts, current scout leaders and parents of children in the Boy Scouts, there are a lot of concerned supporters of Scouting who are furious by this sudden surrender to the cultural left. After all, just six months ago, an 11-member committee unanimously reaffirmed the current policy as "absolutely the best policy for the Boy Scouts." I see hints that the Boy Scouts may be hesitating. Unfortunately, the intolerant left isn't giving up. It has relentlessly hounded major corporate sponsors who fear negative publicity. Last year, Intel, Merck and UPS stopped funding the Boy Scouts. Verizon is under pressure from left-wing activists to do the same. But here is a key point to consider in this debate. While the focus is on the Boys Scouts of America, the overwhelming majority (69%) of Scout troops are locally chartered by faith-based organizations. In fact, the Mormon Church is the single largest chartering organization, serving more than 420,000 boys. Catholic, Baptist and other evangelical churches serve another 400,000. This is why the left keeps going after the Boy Scouts. Like the meaning of marriage, it is partly an assault on religious liberty. What about this so-called "compromise" to allow local units to decide their own membership policy? "A house divided against itself cannot stand." It's a ruse designed to undermine the policy and force its eventual collapse. The militant homosexual movement will never accept it, just as it never accepted the Defense of Marriage Act, a compromise that allowed individual states to define marriage. The radical gay rights crowd, with Obama's support, is now demanding that the Supreme Court strike down DOMA and force same-sex "marriage" on every state of the union. Most local Boy Scout units, because they are chartered by churches, would likely maintain the existing ban on openly homosexual scout masters. I strongly suspect the gay rights crowd will continue its campaign against corporations that fund the Scouts or it will demand the Scouts expel the "bigots" -- those units that uphold the Scout oath to remain "morally straight." If you have not yet done so, please contact the Boy Scouts and urge them to stand firm. Call the BSA national office at 972-580-2400 or click here send them a message. About That Jobs Council Two years ago, with much fanfare as he geared up for reelection, Barack Obama announced the formation of a "jobs council." The president selected key business leaders and economists to make recommendations on how to improve the economy and get Americans back to work. It was a cruel joke. You could count on one hand the number of times Obama met with his jobs council. When asked last year to explain why the president wasn't meeting with his jobs council, a White House spokesman responded that Mr. Obama was too busy. The president found time for 100 rounds of golf and more than 100 fundraisers, but he could not find time for the most important issue facing the country? Apparently not, and the results are obvious. At 7.8%, the official unemployment rate is well above the historical average for a healthy, growing economy. Yesterday brought news that the economy shrank in the fourth quarter of 2012. Today we learned that jobless claims jumped dramatically last week. Surely Mr. Obama will be convening an emergency meeting of his top-notch jobs council now, right? Well, no. With his job safely secured for another four years, Obama is shutting it down. He must be too busy trying to redefine marriage, limiting religious liberty and Second Amendment rights and figuring out how to boost homosexual immigration.

Does "smart power" require a smart Secretary of Defense?
Posted: 31 Jan 2013 01:53 PM PST
(Paul Mirengoff)
Let's hope not, because Chuck Hagel has not come across today as a particularly smart man. Even some leftists have been tweeting their negative impressions of Hagel. As I have suggested, he's more cracker barrel philsopher than serious policy analysis.
Hagel did prove, however, that he's smart enough to know when to lie. He disavowed past position after past position. Sen. Vitter was particularly effective in pointing this out late in the day. It is impossible to believe that Hagel has had this many changes of heart on matters of such primary importance to the security of the world and the nation. And if he has, then he's certainly not clear-thinking enough to be Secretary of Defense.
Hagel's testimony is an insult to the intelligence of the Senate and the American people. When he is confirmed, as I assume he will be (probably on a laregly party line vote), the Pentagon will be under the control of less than mediocre thinker and a less than honest man.

Ted Cruz shows that Hagel slandered both Israel and the U.S.
Posted: 31 Jan 2013 12:30 PM PST
(Paul Mirengoff)
I had thought that Lindsey Graham would be the most effective questioner of Chuck Hagel at today's hearing, and Graham did his usual fine job of "cross-examination." But for my money, Ted Cruz topped Graham and everyone else with questions that exposed not just Hagel's contempt for Israel, but his contempt for the United States. You can view the tape of Cruz's devastating round with Hagel here.
First, Cruz played excerpts from a tape of Hagel's 2009 appearance on al Jazeera, in which a caller suggested that Israel had committed war crimes. In responding to the question, Hagel did not dispute the caller's statement. cruz also pointed to the statement by Hagel that Israel had engaged in "the sickening slaughter" of Hezbollah, which sounds a bit like war crimes.
Taken together, these pieces of information show that Hagel regards Israel as a criminal state, or at least is comfortable with that characterization. Hagel tried, with the same lameness he displayed most of the day, to talk away around this conclusion. He stated that both sides - Israelis and Hezbollah - had slaughtered each other. Perhaps Hagel will produce a tape in which he accused the Palestinians of engaging in a "sickening slaughter" of Israelis. Perhaps he will produce a tape (from the period before he was in the running for a cabinet job under President Obama) in which he took exception to the claim that Israel has committed war crimes. Perhaps, but don't hold your breath.
Next, Cruz played an excerpt from the same interview in which the al Jazeera host read a reader e-mail claiming that the United States has served as the world's bully. This time Hagel not only failed to take exception and stick up for his country, he said on al Jazeera he found some merit in the claim, calling it "a good observation" (the Washington Post report linked to above fails to report this fact).
Pressed by Cruz, Hagel tried to squirm his way out of this bit of anti-Americanism by misrepresenting both the email and his response. But Cruz brought him back to the text, which makes it quite clear that Hagel endorsed the view that America is the world's bully.
Chairman Levin saw the problem these excerpts pose for Hagel, and suggested that Cruz should have presented the entire interview transcript, not just video excerpts. Cruz agreed to transcribe the interview clips in their entirety and post them on his Senate webpage.
If, as is likely, Hagel is confirmed, President Obama will have in place a Secretary of State who (albeit decades ago) called the U.S. military "the Army of Genghis Khan" and a Secretary of Defense who (a few short years ago) found merit in the view that the U.S. is the world's bully.
This state of affairs is altogether fitting for a president who, himself, holds America in contempt. At least Hagel and Kerry can point to their experiences in Vietnam as the source of their disillusionment with America. What can Obama point to, his days in Rev. Wright's church?
JOHN adds: Here are the al-Jazeera clips that Sen. Cruz played today:
Already, after just a month in office, it seems clear that two new superstars have emerged in the Republican Party and the conservative movement: Tom Cotton in the House, and Ted Cruz in the Senate.

The Hagel hearing, Part Five (Sen. Graham takes Hagel to the woodshed)
Posted: 31 Jan 2013 10:46 AM PST
(Paul Mirengoff)
Now it's Lindsey Graham time. Are will still at war, Graham wants to know. After some stammering, Hagel says "Yes."
Graham's next question is "name one person in Congress who has been intimidated by the Jewish lobby." Hagel can't do it (or won't).
Now Graham wants Hagel to name one dumb thing Congress has done in response to pressure from the Israeli lobby. Hagel can't do it (or, actually, won't).
Graham wants to know why Hagel was one of 12 Senators who didn't sign a letter affirming Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. Hagel says that Senators shouldn't sign these kinds of letters - it infringes on the president's prerogative. But then, why did Hagel sign a letter denouncing the treatment of Jews by the Russians? Hagel can't answer, at least not coherently.
Graham asks if Hagel would vote today against designating the IRG a terrorist organiztion. Hagel hems and haws. Then he says he would, at least, reconsider the matter, since "times change."
Now Graham is asking about a letter Hagel refused to sign denouncing the intifada. He wants to know if Graham will admit that not signing this letter was a mistake. Hagel says he will look at the letter and answer later.
It be a letter that Hagel clearly should have signed because liberal Sen. Blumenthal, who follows Graham in the questioning, tells Hagel he hopes Hagel will now say he should have signed it.
* * * * * * *
I've had all the fun I can stand with this hearing for now. Perhaps I'll resume my coverage at some point in the second round of questioning.
From what I've seen so far today, it looks like Hagel will win more than 50 votes from the Democrats, and quite possibly all 55 Democratic votes. As for Republicans, I don't believe he's done well enough today to win many over. He succeeded in enraging John McCain (not the most difficult thing to do) and Lindsey Graham was upset with Hagel from the get-go. Of those Republicans who have questioned Hagel so far, it seems to me that he has "charmed" nary a one.

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise
Posted: 31 Jan 2013 10:14 AM PST
(Steven Hayward)
What do you mean I'm not covered?!
No, that headline is not a pop culture reference to the news that Jim Nabors ("Gomer Pyle") has married his partner, though I was a little surprised that Nabors is still alive. Rather this refers to the "unexpected" news out today of more and more "glitches" in Obamacare as it rolls out.
First, it seems there's a "glitch" that makes some low income people ineligible for coverage. From the Puffington Host:
Some families could get priced out of health insurance due to what's being called a glitch in President Barack Obama's overhaul law. IRS regulations issued Wednesday failed to fix the problem as liberal backers of the president's plan had hoped. As a result, some families that can't afford the employer coverage that they are offered on the job will not be able to get financial assistance from the government to buy private health insurance on their own. How many people will be affected is unclear.
What? You mean the regulators couldn't fix what the clever draftspeople in Congress wrote in the mule-choking-sized law?
Next, the Wall Street Journal reports this morning that some labor union members are suddenly, "unexpectedly!", discovering they may not like Obamacare in practice:
In early talks, the Obama administration dismissed the idea of applying the subsidies to people in union-sponsored plans, according to officials from the trade group, the National Coordinating Committee for Multiemployer Plans, that represents these insurance plans. Contacted for this article, Obama administration officials said the issue is subject to regulations still being written.
Unexpectedly! Moreover, how silly for any of us to cling (bitterly) to the old civics textbook notion that Congress writes the law. Both of these stories make clear that the real action is with the administration and the regulators, who are the real authors of most law today. Bring back the Constitution, I say; our Constitution may not be perfect, but it's better than the government we've got. Maybe we'll need Sergeant Carter to help sort this out for Private Pyle.

The Hagel hearing, Part Four (Sens. Ayotte and Fischer take Hagel to the woodshed)
Posted: 31 Jan 2013 09:39 AM PST
(Paul Mirengoff)
Sen. Hagan of North Carolina extracts another pledge from Hagel to support the "special relationship" with Israel. These repeated statements by Hagel are self-serving and probably not sincere. But it's salutary to have Hagel make them over-and-over. Part of President Obama's reason for nominating Hagel was, I believe, the desire to stick it to Israel and the pro-Israel lobby. If so, that purpose is undermined, to some extent, whenever Hagel disavows his prior statements about the "Jewish lobby" and talks up the "special relationship" between Israel and the U.S.
But Hagan also asks Hagel if he has any new ideas about how to strengthen the "special relationship." Tellingly, Hagel has nothing to offer.
The Committee has adjourned for a while. When it resumes Sen. Ayotte will be up. Ayotte is viewed as a rising star in the Republican Party, so it will be interesting to see how she does today.
Ayotte begins by pointing out that in 2001, Hagel was one of only two Senators to vote against Iranian sanctions. Also in 2008, he was only of of two Senators on the Banking Committee to vote against a bill on Iranian sanctions. Ayotte asks whether he blocked unanimous consent on this legislation.
Hagel says he was part of a group of Senators who blocked the bill because the Bush administration didn't want it to go forward.
Hagel also boasts of his alleged record of not basing his vote on how others voted. Yet, earlier in the hearings, he justified his vote against designating the IRG as a terrorist organization based in large part on the fact that Sen. Webb, whose credentials he touted, opposed it.
Ayotte returns to Hagel's weak responses to Sen. Sessions questions about the report Hagel signed calling for unilateral deep cuts in the military. Hagel does no better with his responses this time around.
Ayotte returns to the issue of keeping the military option on the table as to Iran. She reminds Hagel of his statement in 2006 that the military option is not viable. He claims that he said it is not a "preferable" option. But that's not what Hagel said, and Ayotte points this out as her time, unfortunately, expires.
Now it's the turn of Sen. Manchin of West Virginia. He's a Democrat from an increasingly conservative state. In theory, he should be at least a potential vote against Hagel. But I expect him to fall into line with his Party, and he concludes his questioning by stating that he will do so.
Manchin proves to be a pathetic questioner. After rambling for a few minutes, he asserts that "we are all very comfortable" with Hagel's support for Israel. Actually, even some liberal Dems have said they are less than fully comfortable about this, although (surprise, surprise) they are coming around. Of all the Senators to question Hagel so far, this guy is easily the least impressive.
Now it's Deb Fischer's turn. She's from Hagel's home state of Nebraska, and she comes out smoking. Fischer says she's less concerned about the positions Hagel has shifted on than she is about the positions he continues to hold. Specifically, she's focused on the statements contained in his "Global Zero" report on reducing our nuclear arsenal. She asks whether Hagel agrees with the statement that ICBMs have lost their utility. Hagel denies that the report says this. Fischer insists that it does and says she will enter it into the record.
Hagel claims that reports like this are issued all the time, i.e., by think tanks. But Fischer insists that if one authors such a report, one should stand behind it. Hagel could hardly sound more lame than he does during this exchange.
Hagel resorts to his claim that he's only talking about bilateral reductions. But this claim was discredited during the morning session.
Now comes Sen. Gillibrand. Her "yes" vote presumably is in the bag, now that her mentor Sen. Schumer has said he supports this nomination. She is just going to posture about how much she cares about Israel and, once again, extract Hagel's concurrence.
And that's what happens.
In addition, Gillibrand revisits a previous Hagel answer when, in explaining his vote not to designate the IRG as a terrorist organization, he said that Iran's regime is a "legitimate" government. Hagel corrects himself, saying that he misspoke. What he meant to say that Iran is a "recognized" government. It's amazing how much difficulty this guy has saying what he claims he means.

FAILED: Rand Paul's amendment to prohibit transfer of F-16s and tanks to Egyptian government; ROLL CALL VOTE
Rand Paul's amendment "To prohibit the sale, lease, transfer, retransfer, or delivery of F-16 aircraft, M1 tanks, or certain other defense articles or services to the Government of Egypt" failed in the Senate today by a vote of 79-19.

Next Wednesday, the Boy Scouts of America executive board will vote on a proposal that could reverse 103 years of history.
The question is whether or not the BSA will choose to be bullied by homosexual activism or will tighten its boot straps and vote to remain "morally straight." See: A PLEA TO SCOUTS: DON'T LET THE 'BAD GUYS' WIN Tens of thousands of phone calls and emails have flooded the BSA National Council offices. By an overwhelming margin, the BSA is being encouraged to stand firm with the current policy of prohibiting homosexual men from serving as mentors and leaders of young boys. TAKE ACTION Before the Boy Scouts make their final decision, it is absolutely vital that they hear from you! Now you can contact those who will actually be casting their vote on the issue. HELP US! AFA is placing a half-page ad in USA Today on Friday in support of the current policy. Will you help us cover the cost? Text the letters "AFA" to 20222, to give $10 toward the $67,728 for the cost of the ad. Sign the petition to the Boy Scouts of America now!

Back to the Basics: Straightening Up America
"How far can you make a man bend over backwards before he breaks?" This anguished cry is a defining moment in one of the most widely acclaimed musical productions of the Twentieth Century, "Fiddler on the Roof." A central figure is Tevye, the Jewish father overwhelmed by fundamental changes threatening to annihilate the traditional culture of his people in early Twentieth Century Tsarist Russia. The threats come not only from the political regime but from within his own family, specifically his three oldest daughters' choosing husbands who reject his customs and culture, forcing from him this anguished lament.

Advice and Consent: Hagel's Confirmation Hearing a Test of Senate Independence |
|
by Joel B Pollak
Former Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) faces his long-anticipated confirmation hearing today before the Senate Armed Services Committee for the position of Secretary of Defense. The hearing will not only be an examination of Hagel's qualifications and views, but will test whether the Senate's "advice and consent" process is a serious filter for potential Cabinet nominees, or merely a rubber stamp and a forum for political grandstanding.
The Senate's recent performances have not inspired much confidence. Outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton put on a dramatic yet thoroughly evasive performance during a hearing on the Benghazi attack last week. Her successor, John Kerry, faced few tough questions about his questionable record on foreign policy issues. Senators used the allotted time to offer their own views but wasted an opportunity to question his.

Obama's GDP -.01%? "What difference, at this point, does it make?" deficits aren't important right?
Jan 31, 2013 05:13 am | Coach Collins
By Derrick Hollenbeck, staff writer
Just a day before we learned the GDP fell from + 3.2% (the fairy tale told to us before November's election) to -.01%, for the last quarter of 2012, Louisiana Democrat Senator Mary Landrieu pronounced the Obama Administration's wild spending "problem" something that was made up by Fox News. Landrieu is one of the head cheer leaders of a new breed of "in-your-face" Democrat who simply deny anything is wrong with our economy - or anything else in America for that matter. "Who are you going to believe; me or your lying eyes?" comes to mind.
She is joined by a growing number of liberal celebrities whose comments embody Hillary Clinton's dismissive "What difference, at this point, does it make?" Halfwits like Paul Krugman smugly says the debt problem is "mostly solved." Slate's Matt Yglesias demands, "What sovereign debt crisis? There certainly isn't one in the United States."
Today these deniers ... Continue Reading:Obama's GDP -.01%? "What difference, at this point, does it make?" deficits aren't important right?

Hi Friends,
There is so much going on and many issues we must weigh in on. AFP does a great job sending out notices of fiscally beneficial policies and bills in our PA government. I was very impressed with Daryl Metcalfe's website which is packed with liberty loving policy positions and Bills which he has sponsored. I tried to break all this info down. If you have difficulty with AFP links please just call your Representatives and ask two others to do the same. Make an impact!
- Tea Party Patriot's upcoming Town hall series, All are welcome!
- State Representative Daryl Metcalfe has announced legislation to block Federal gun control.
- AFP action items: Stop the Death Tax and Medicaid expansion. Pass Right to work
1.Today, Wednesday, on my way home from work of course I was listening to Mark Levin and was pleasantly surprised to hear him announce the following event: The Feb 10th Tea Party Patriot Town hall at 5pm. Sign up now at www.patriottownhall.org
After signing yourselves up please tell as many folks about this as you can. We have been much too silent in the aftermath of November's election and as a result there are not enough voices combating the main stream media. It is so important that we gather ourselves up and begin a relentless fight against the constant drone of propaganda coming from the progressives! Please GET ON THAT CALL! The National group is a breath of fresh air. You will be glad you did.
Guest: Craig Shirley, Ronald Reagan Biographer Date: February 10, 2013 Time: 5:00pm EST Host: Jenny Beth Martin, Tea Party Patriots National Coordinator
2. State Representative Daryl Metcalfe has announced legislation that would make any new federal gun control laws unenforceable within Pennsylvania! Go to his website to sign petitions. http://www.repmetcalfe.com/
"Passage of my legislation will send the message that there will never be additional gun control, anywhere in Pennsylvania," said Metcalfe, a Butler County Republican. "Whether by White House executive orders, congressional fiat, or judicial activism, we will never allow the left to benefit from the wicked acts of murderers in order advance their senseless gun-grabbing agenda which would only succeed in replacing one of our most sacred personal liberties with the chains of government tyranny."
Similar to legislation most recently introduced in Wyoming and Texas, Metcalfe's Right to Bear Arms Protection Act (House Bill 357) would: · Prohibit enforcement of any new federal registration, restriction or prohibition requirement for privately owned firearms, magazines and ammunition.
· Require the state of Pennsylvania, including the Office of Attorney General, to intercede on behalf of Commonwealth citizens against any federal attempt to register, restrict or ban the purchase or ownership of firearms and firearms accessories which are currently legal products. Final enactment of Metcalfe's Right to Bear Arms Protection Act would mean that anyone - even federal agents - who try to enforce any type of gun control restriction within state borders would face arrest and being charged with a felony offense.
3. Below is info sent by Matthew Hissey Field Coordinator Americans for Prosperity - Pennsylvania. and Katy Abram Director of Communications AFP 1. AFP Stands with Rep. Metcalfe: It's Time for Right to Work in Pennsylvania On Tuesday, AFP-PA Director Jennifer Stefano stood with and spoke in support of Daryl Metcalfe's and other PA legislators' Pennsylvania Open Workforce Initiative legislation, which, if passed, would guarantee the right to work to all Pennsylvanians. Twenty-four states have now passed right-to-work laws guaranteeing workers the right to join or not to join a union. Their decision not to join cannot be used as a precondition in order to get the job. Pennsylvania is one of four states in the country with a Republican Governor and legislature that has not passed this vital piece of legislation. If Michigan, the home to the United Autoworkers Union, can pass this vital piece of legislation needed to get the economy moving again, it can pass in Pennsylvania, too. To paraphrase Rocky Balboa, if Michigan can change, Indiana can change, Pennsylvania and all of America can change.
Click here now to tell your state representative to pass Right to Work NOW.
2. Ending the Death Tax on Family Businesses AFP-PA supports Rep Stephen Blook's "Mom and Pop Shop" Death Tax Elimination Bill, HB 48, which passed out of the Finance Committee this week. Pennsylvania is one of seven states that still levy the "death tax." One of the most egregious aspects of the inheritance tax is the burden it places on Pennsylvania's family-owned businesses. Those family members inheriting a business are often faced with the difficult decision of either selling assets, taking out a loan, selling the business or closing it outright just to pay the inheritance tax.
Click here to send an email to your state representatives telling them to repeal this burdensome part of the death tax.
3. No To Medicaid Expansion On February 5th, Governor Tom Corbett will go before the state legislature and submit his FY 2013-14 budget. One vital decision the Governor and our state leaders will have to make is whether to expand Pennsylvania's Medicaid program beyond the nearly 20 percent of the population (2.4 million) already covered.
Let's not make an open-ended promise Pennsylvania cannot keep to a program badly in need of a cure. Click here to take action right now! Below you will find two links: the first will explain what Medicaid expansion is, and the second explains how it would negatively impact Pennsylvanians. A Blow to Obama's Imperial Presidency
President Obama has gone around Congress in as many ways as he can find. One way is by abusing the presidential power to make appointments to government positions during a Senate recess-to avoid having the Senate confirm the nominees. Last week, a three-judge panel of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals dealt quite a blow: It ruled that a number of President Obama's "recess appointments" were invalid. As Todd Gaziano, director of Heritage's Center for Legal and Judicial Studies, said: "Our unilateral president must take his unilateral medicine." Heritage's James Gattuso explains:
To sidestep opposition in the Senate, the President declared these to be "recess" appointments, invoking his prerogative to fill vacancies without Senate confirmation when that body is not in session. The action was roundly criticized on the grounds that although the Senate was not actively conducting legislative business, it was formally still in session.
The judges said that President Obama made the appointments during an invalid "recess," and that recess appointments cannot be made unless the position becomes vacant during the Senate's valid recess. This brings up huge questions for all the appointees who have now been declared invalid-and the regulations they have created during their time in office. There's the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), which had two members appointed in this way. Gaziano notes that "13 months' worth of rulings, regulations, and other actions by the NLRB are now in question, because without the illegal recess appointments the NLRB lacked a quorum to act during all that time." And then there's the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), whose director, Richard Cordray, was another of these invalid appointments. The bureau has been regulating away for the past year, but Gattuso writes that "the new rules adopted by the CFPB under Cordray will likely be invalidated." Gattuso describes the CFPB as "perhaps the least accountable entity in the federal government"-so this is good news.
The odds are that this imbroglio will stall the CFPB's regulatory agenda for some time. That, however, is no bad thing for consumers. The rules adopted by the CFPB, by limiting lender activity, decrease options for consumers and increase costs for mortgages and other loans. Reining them in could actually be a boon for consumer welfare.
There's a reason the Senate is supposed to confirm these nominees-and in the case of the CFPB, the agency itself merits closer scrutiny. The judges' decision is a welcome check on Obama's abuses of power. LEARN MORE: The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and Its Non-Director: What Now? by James L. Gattuso

An Indiana couple is facing up to 60 days in jail and $2,000 in fines for saving a deer from death. Jeff Counceller, a police officer, and his wife Jennifer spotted an injured baby deer on their neighbor's porch. Instead of turning a blind eye to the dying fawn, the Councellers took the deer in and nursed it back to health.

ABOUT OVERCRIMINALIZATION | The Heritage Foundation and a coalition of public interest legal groups are committed to reversing the troubling trend of overcriminalization, which is defined by three attributes:
1. Federalizing crime that properly belongs under state and local jurisdiction;
2. Imposing criminal penalties upon persons who acted without criminal intent (mens rea);
3. Applying criminal sanctions to conduct that historically has not been considered wrongful.
This Legislative Update includes bills our researchers have identified that add or expand federal criminal offenses or penalties, but it generally does NOT include bills involving drugs, firearms, or crimes of violence. |

Obama, Equality, and Marriage by Ryan T. Anderson, William E. Simon Fellow in Religion and a Free Society
President Barack Obama seems to have reiterated his support for redefining marriage in his inauguration speech last week. Riffing on the Declaration of Independence, Obama declared that "our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law-for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well."
But if this appeal to equality was meant as support for redefining marriage, it both gets marriage wrong and the Declaration's pledge of equality wrong, too.
All Americans stand equally before the law and have their civil rights equally protected-all have equal protection for their rights to free speech, religious liberty, free association, and every other traditional civil liberty. The question is whether a new "civil right"-the right to have the government and private citizens recognize your same-sex sexual partnership as a marriage-ought to be created, redefining marriage in the process.
"The love we commit to one another," just as such, is none of the government's business. The government isn't in the business of affirming our loves. Rather it leaves consenting adults free to live and love as they choose. Contrary to what some say, there is no ban on same-sex marriage. Nothing about it is illegal. In all 50 states, two people of the same sex can choose to live together, choose to join a religious community that blesses their relationship, and choose a workplace offering them various joint benefits. Many liberal houses of worship and progressive businesses have voluntarily decided to do so. There's nothing illegal about this. There's no ban on it. What's at issue is whether the government will recognize such relationships as marriages-and then force every citizen and business to do so as well. At issue is whether policy will coerce and compel others to recognize and affirm same-sex relationships as marriages. Marriage exists to bring a man and a woman together as husband and wife, to be father and mother to any children their union produces. And as ample social science has shown, children tend to do best when reared by their mother and father. Government recognizes marriage because it is an institution that benefits the public good. Marriage is society's least restrictive means to ensure the well-being of future citizens. State recognition of marriage protects children by incentivizing adults to commit permanently and exclusively to each other and their children. In fact, French citizens-including a number of LGBT leaders-are coming to the same conclusions about marriage:
In France, a repeating refrain is "the rights of children trump the right to children." It is a pithy but forceful philosophical claim, uttered in voices ranging from gay mayor Jean-Marc to auteur Jean-Dominique Bunel, who revealed in Le Figaro that two lesbians raised him. For most of France, LGBT rights cross the line when they mean same-sex couples have a "right" to children-something that both France's grand rabbi, Gilles Bernheim, and Louis-Georges Barret, Vice President of the Christian Democratic Party, have refuted as a right at all.
While respecting everyone's liberty, government rightly recognizes, protects, and promotes marriage between a man and woman as the ideal institution for procreative love, childbearing, and child-rearing. Recognizing that we are all created equal doesn't challenge this historic understanding.

Medicaid Patients Have Worse Outcomes than the Privately Insured Medicaid is a federal and state program that pays for health care for low-income Americans. The academic literature has consistently illustrated that Medicaid patients have poorer access to care, and poorer health outcomes, than privately insured patients.
Medicaid typically pays physicians 56 percent of the amount that private insurers pay. As more and more doctors refuse to accept Medicaid, it is increasingly difficult for Medicaid patients to find medical care. When admitted to hospitals, Medicaid patients often have more serious conditions than privately insured patients.
By further expanding this broken program, Obamacare only exacerbates the situation by adding millions of low-income Americans to a failing program.
As the academic research has consistently suggested, Medicaid's so-called safety net cripples the very people it is designed to help. To fix the broken safety net, Congress should consider the following.
- Repeal Obamacare and its Medicaid expansion.
- Maximize access to private health insurance for Medicaid beneficiaries.
Medicaid is a prime example of government's inability to outperform-or even keep up with-the private sector. Policymakers should reform Medicaid to allow Medicaid patients access to private insurance in a consumer-driven market.

Al Gore down with Eugenics?
Al Gore has been making the media rounds to promote his latest exciting book about the future (or something like that), but his vision reeks of the disturbing science of eugenics. Al Gore seems to be attempting to bring back the progressive "science" of the early 20th century. Yes, the "science" that promotes breeding the "undesirables" out of existence. Glenn reacts on radio today.
Unions just now realize Obamacare will cost them money
