Sabotage! Key Iranian nuclear facility hit?
Source: Explosion destroys much of underground installation
by Reza Kahlili
Reza Kahlili served in CIA Directorate of Operations, as a spy in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, counterterrorism expert; currently serves on the Task Force on National and Homeland Security, an advisory board authorized by Congress. He is the author of the award-winning book "A Time to Betray" and regularly appears in national and international media as an expert on Iran and counterterrorism in the Middle East.More ↓Less ↑
An explosion deep within Iran's Fordow nuclear facility has destroyed much of the installation and trapped about 240 personnel deep underground, according to a former intelligence officer of the Islamic regime.
The previously secret nuclear site has become a center for Iran's nuclear activity because of the 2,700 centrifuges enriching uranium to the 20-percent level. A further enrichment to weapons grade would take only weeks, experts say.
The level of enrichment has been a major concern to Israeli officials, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu repeatedly has warned about the 20-percent enriched stockpile.
The explosion occurred Monday, the day before Israeli elections weakened Netanyahu's political control.
Iran, to avoid alarm, had converted part of the stockpile to fuel plates for use in the Tehran Research Reactor. However, days after the recent failed talks with the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iranian officials announced the enrichment process will not stop even "for a moment."
A couple of weeks back, I wrote a piece about the United States shipping F-16's and Abrams tanks to Egypt as part of a "foreign aid" package (see "Obama to Arm Muslim Brotherhood, But You Can't Own An AR?"). Many liberal readers questioned the credibility of my claim that President Obama's State Department intended to supply the Egyptian leadership-aka The Muslim Brotherhood-with our latest military technology. As predicted, the shipment was announced on the Friday of Inauguration weekend and according to reports arrived in Cairo this past Monday; so much for our ongoing war on terror.
While our economy continues to hemorrhage and our government continues to borrow to pay our bills, liberals all over the country should feel a deep sense of pride; pride in knowing that your vote for Barack Hussein Obama was a vote to empower and arm our terrorist adversaries. By the way, these adversaries to which I refer don't support liberal morality, gay anything, women's rights, abortion and free birth control. They are simple people with a few simple causes: The destruction of Israel, the fall of the United States and an Islamic caliphate.
While the Obama Administration ignores the drowning U.S. economy/unemployment, attempts to strong arm federal weapons bans and arrogantly ramps up efforts for a renewed vote on the controversial United Nations Arms Treaty, our national debt was recently increased to arm our Islamist enemy in Egypt.
"Bipartisan Filibuster Deal Is Taking Shape in the Senate."
After weeks of arm-twisting his Senate colleagues, union-label Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid may have finally had his way.
And it's been reported Reid may try to push through a vote TODAY.
To get away with it, Reid needs the votes of every Democrat, plus twelve Republicans. And sources tell me he's close.
That's why it's vital you call your U.S. Senators immediately and urge them to oppose the deal to gut the filibuster.
Sen. Bob Casey: (202) 224-6324 Sen. Patrick Toomey: (202) 224-4254
Details of the deal are still vague, but reports indicate that Reid is prepared to offer Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell two guaranteed amendments per bill in exchange for watering down the filibuster.
Not only would gutting the filibuster make it more difficult for concerned citizens like you and me to keep Big Labor from stealing even more destructive power, that deal would further centralize power in the Senate's so-called "leadership."
That means yet more deal-making between Reid and McConnell in the future while disarming individual Senators.
That's been Harry Reid's plan all along.
As you may remember, last summer, Senator Rand Paul introduced an amendment to protect employee freedom for workers in the District of Columbia.
Rather than even let a vote on the Right to Work amendment take place, Harry Reid withdrew the entire D.C. funding bill -- at the request of his union-boss backers who are now going all out to push his scheme to gut the filibuster.
One local AFL-CIO union boss even admitted, "We would rather see the bill killed than accept" Right to Work in the nation's capital.
Harry Reid wants to make sure that never happens again.
Reid and Big Labor's high command also remember all those times you have used the filibuster to defeat their dangerous legislation.
Just two years ago, the Senate filibuster was the tool that prevented the potential forced unionization of virtually every police officer, firefighter, and EMT in the country.
Only the filibuster gave us the power to block the union bosses' "Card Check" bill, which would have eliminated the secret ballot in union organizing campaigns, when their allies controlled the House, the Senate, and the White House.
When a union-label Congress and White House were all set to pass Ted Kennedy's Pushbutton Strike Bill, it was the filibuster that let us block it.
In 1978, Big Labor's so-called "Labor Law Reform" power grab was fast-tracked by a union-label Congress, and Jimmy Carter was eager to sign them into law. Only the filibuster let us carry the day.
And all the way back to 1966, when they tried to wipe out all our state Right to Work Laws at one stroke by repealing Section 14b of the Taft-Hartley Act, it was the filibuster that enabled us to block their bill.
Without the filibuster, there would be no state Right to Work laws today, and Big Labor's power would be nearly absolute.
As soon as today, Harry Reid may push through his "deal" to water down the filibuster.
That's why it's vital you call your two Senators RIGHT NOW and urge them to oppose ANY changes to the filibuster. Sen. Bob Casey: (202) 224-6324 Sen. Patrick Toomey: (202) 224-4254
Your Senators MUST hear from you today. This vote could be the most important vote your Senators cast in the next two years.

February 15 - March 27, 2013 - Debt Ceiling: Sometime in this date range we are expected to reach the debt ceiling (Technically we have already hit the debt ceiling, but this is the date range when we will reach a point where the Treasury can no longer implement "extraordinary measures" to meet our spending obligations.
February 28, 2013 - Sequestration: The "fiscal cliff" bill created a new manufactured crisis that will happen sometime at the end of February. This is when the sequestration can was kicked down the road.

Any questions, holler.

The major political battles of 2013 are about to commence.
Last year, the Association successfully lobbied against the phony "school choice" bill, SB 1, and supported HB 1330--the budget neutral expansion of the EITC scholarship fund . A version of HB 1330 was attached to another bill, approved by the Assembly, and signed into law by Governor Tom Corbett.
In addition, very early on, the Association backed the PA Voter ID bill--which also passed the Assembly and was signed into law.
Finally, the Association successfully lobbied the respective Governors of NJ and PA, Chris Christie and Tom Corbett, against establishing state health insurance exchanges--a fundamental requirement of ObamaCare.
This year, the Association will focus its limited funding, energy, and resources on a handful state and federal issues.
In this letter, we will emphasize important state battles shaping up in Harrisburg, Trenton, and Dover.
Harrisburg
Pennsylvania Right to Work is topic #1 as State Rep. Darryl Metcalfe and other legislators announce the reintroduction of aRight to Work bill during today's 11 AM Harrisburg Presser (details below).
Next on the agenda is State Rep. Matt Baker's Opt Out of ObamaCare legislation. This bill cleared the House Health Committee last session--only to whither on the vine. We must pass the bill in this session and persuade Gov. Corbett to sign it into law.
Also, we have been working behind the scenes with State Reps. Stephen Barrar and Darryl Metcalfe to enact legislation allowing any registered Pennsylvania voter to poll watch at any precinct within the boundaries of the Commonwealth.
Trenton
In New Jersey, we will press Governor Christie to veto proposed bills seeking to increase the minimum wage and restrict 2nd Amendment Rights.
Dover
In Delaware, we will join efforts to stop the numerous gun control bills that have been introduced in the state legislature.
In the coming days, there will be plenty of opportunities for us to demonstrate our commitment to conservative values.
From tomorrow's Right to Work press conference to Dom Giordano's Salute Our Troops (Presidents Day, February 18), there are two terrific events being hosted by four great organizations.
1. Right to Keep & Bear Arms--A Peaceful Demonstration
When: Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, 10 AM
Where: State Capitol, 125 West State Street, Trenton, NJ
Sponsored by the New Jersey Second Amendment Society
2. 2nd Annual Salute Our Troops! Live Broadcast and Luncheon
When: Presidents Day, Monday, February 18, 2013, 11 AM
Where: Crowne Plaza Valley Forge, 260 Mall Blvd, King of Prussia, PA
Before signing-off, I would like to acknowledge one of the saddest anniversary dates in our nation's history.
Forty years ago today, Roe v. Wade became the law of land--overturning some form of legal protection for unborn children in every state in the union.
Since that tragic day, it is estimated that well over 50 million lives have been ended through the controversial practice of abortion.
Whether you are pro-life or pro-choice, as a conservative, you must
recognize the disastrous legal consequences of the US Supreme Court's decision which made a mockery of states rights.
We can all agree that the Warren Court's decision demonstrated a virulent contempt for the US Constitution and its 10th Amendment.
We can also agree that taxpayer funded abortion is a grave moral affront to those among us who believe that the sanctity of innocent human life is paramount.
On behalf of the Association Board of Directors,
Teri Adams

Metcalfe Seeks to Make Federal Gun-Grabbing A Criminal Offense in Pennsylvania
HARRISBURG - State Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) today announced his legislation that would make any new federal gun control laws unenforceable within the Commonwealth.
"Passage of my legislation will send the message that there will never be additional gun control, anywhere in Pennsylvania," said Metcalfe. "Whether by White House executive orders, congressional fiat, or judicial activism, we will never allow the left to benefit from the wicked acts of murderers in order advance their senseless gun-grabbing agenda which would only succeed in replacing one of our most sacred personal liberties with the chains of government tyranny."
Similar to legislation most recently introduced in Wyoming and Texas, Metcalfe's Right to Bear Arms Protection Act (House Bill 357) would:
Prohibit enforcement of any new federal registration, restriction or prohibition requirement for privately owned firearms, magazines and ammunition.
Require the state of Pennsylvania, including the Office of Attorney General, to intercede on behalf of Commonwealth citizens against any federal attempt to register, restrict or ban the purchase or ownership of firearms and firearms accessories which are currently legal products.
Final enactment of Metcalfe's Right to Bear Arms Protection Act would mean that anyone - even federal agents - who try to enforce any type of gun control restriction within state borders would face arrest and being charged with a felony offense.
"The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned," said Metcalfe. "Article 1, Section 21 of the Pennsylvania Constitution makes it crystal clear that no level of government, especially the federal government, has any authority whatsoever to impose senseless restrictions on law-abiding firearms owners, or worse, the confiscation of legally owned firearms. The purpose of my legislation is to force any gun-grabbing federal official to count the costs of unconstitutionally disarming or denying Pennsylvania citizens their God-given right to keep and bear arms."
Metcalfe is also calling on all Pennsylvania citizens who support Constitutional liberty to attend Pennsylvania's annual Second Amendment Action Day on Tuesday, April 23, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the State Capitol Rotunda, and to sign the all-new Armed Pennsylvania: Say to No Gun Control petition by visiting RepMetcalfe.com.

E15, a higher blend of ethanol and gasoline, has rolled out in a handful of states. But its use in older vehicles is generating warnings from AAA, which says E15 could be harmful to pre-2012 vehicles.
The AAA says the Environmental Protection Agency and gasoline retailers should halt the sale of E15, a new ethanol blend that could damage millions of vehicles and void car warranties.
AAA, which issued its warning Friday, says just 12 million of more than 240 million cars, trucks and SUVs now in use have manufacturers' approval for E15. Flex-fuel vehicles, 2012 and newer General Motors vehicles, 2013 Fords and 2001 and later model Porsches are the exceptions, according to AAA, the nation's largest motorist group, with 53.5 million members.
"It is clear that millions of Americans are unfamiliar with E15, which means there is a strong possibility that many may improperly fill up using this gasoline and damage their vehicle," AAA President and CEO Robert Darbelnet tells USA TODAY. "Bringing E15 to the market without adequate safeguards does not responsibly meet the needs of consumers."
On Monday, President Barack Obama nominated former Republican Senator Chuck Hagel to be his next Secretary of Defense in succession to Leon Panetta. Chuck Hagel's record is one of being a frightening and dangerous apologist for terrorist groups like Hamas and Hizballah, as well as for the Iranian terrorist regime, while being arguably one of the most vicious and hostile critics of Israel. The ZOA believes that appointing Chuck Hagel as Defense Secretary would also serve to confirm the fears that many have that President Obama is no friend of Israel and is not serious about stopping Iran's nuclear program.
ACTION:
Please call your U.S. Senators to urge President Obama not to nominate Chuck Hagel and to vote against his appointment if Hagel's name goes forward for Secretary of Defense. You can reach all U.S. Senators through the Capitol Hill switchboard: 202-224-3121.

BACKGROUND:
In 2009, Hagel signed a letter urging President Obama to begin direct negotiations with Hamas, a U.S. designated terrorist group committed in its Charter to the destruction of Israel and the murder of Jews, a position President Obama has not taken up.
In a 2006 interview with former Middle East negotiator Aaron David Miller, Hagel said that "the Jewish lobby intimidates a lot of people" on Capitol Hill ('Hagel named to intelligence board,' Jewish Telegraphic Agency, October 29, 2009).
In July 2006, at the outbreak of the Lebanon war, Hagel argued against giving Israel the time to break Hizballah, urging instead an immediate ceasefire ('Key Republican breaks with Bush on Mideast,' CNN.com, July 31, 2006).
December 2005: Hagel was one of only 27 senators who refused to sign a letter to President Bush urging him to pressure the Palestinian Authority (PA) to ban terrorist groups from participating in Palestinian legislative elections.
June 2004, Hagel refused to sign a letter urging President Bush to highlight Iran's nuclear program at the G-8 summit and was one of only two senators in to vote against renewal of the Libya-Iran sanctions act.
November 2001: Hagel was one of only 11 senators who refused to sign a letter urging President Bush not to meet with the late Yasser Arafat until his forces ended the violence against Israel.
In July 2001, Hagel was one of only two senators to vote against extending the original Iranian sanctions bill.
October 2000: Hagel was one of only four senators who refused to sign a Senate letter in support of Israel.

Yes, it's true: You can support ACT! for America-at no cost to you!An important message from Guy Rodgers, Executive Director
The next time you make an online purchase of almost anything, you could be helping ACT! for America-at no cost to you.
Sound too good to be true? It isn't.
All you have to do is sign up for "iGive"-a program that's been around since 1997.
The concept is as powerful as it is simple.
Every time an iGive member makes an online purchase at over 1,000 brand-name stores, a percentage of that purchase is donated to that person's charity of choice.
And with the holidays just around the corner, you could be helping ACT! for America with every gift you buy!
The concept isn't new. In the mid-1990s many supporters of non-profit organizations signed up with long distance telephone programs where a percentage of their bill was donated to their charity of choice.
But our investigation of iGive has convinced us that this program has an ease of use and sophistication that we find remarkable.
Imagine booking a hotel room on Orbitz-and having 1.6% of that purchase price donated to ACT! for America.
Or buying an Xbox at Best Buy-and having 1.2% of the purchase price donated to ACT! for America.
The same goes for buying merchandise at Amazon, Bath and Body Works, Advance Auto Parts, Game Stop, Kmart, Home Depot, Holiday Inn, Old Navy, NASCAR Superstore, Overstock.com, Mattel, J.C. Penney, Office Max, QVC, Radio Shack, Shoe Carnival, Pottery Barn-and on and on the list goes.
In other words, every time you make a purchase of merchandise you would buy anyway, you would be financially supporting ACT! for America!
All you have to do is log on below and follow the directions to create your account and download the iGive "button." (Note: downloading the "button" is key).
When I was first informed of iGive, I was skeptical. I've seen these ideas come and go. Often, they're too good to be true. Or there are all kinds of glitches and problems.
So I spent hours researching.
I looked at online customer reviews (which were very good). I read all of iGive's fine print, such as Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. I signed up and even emailed two tech support questions to see how good their tech support was.
And the more I dug, the more I liked what I saw. For instance, both of my tech support questions were responded to within 60 minutes. How often does THAT happen?
As you know from our Patriot Partner program, we're all about encouraging a lot of people to each do a little-to do something. When everyone does a little, together we accomplish a lot.
So consider what could happen.
If just 1% of ACT! for America members each purchased just $400 in merchandise in 2013, from all the available outlets, and the average percentage donated to ACT! was 1.5%, the total amount donated back to ACT! for America would be...
...$15,000. That's a lot of money, wouldn't you agree?
And if you were one of those ACT! for America members, it wouldn't cost you one thin dime to help ACT! for America receive $15,000.
If this idea really caught on, and eventually 5% of our members made purchases with iGive, that $15,000 could explode to $50,000, $75,000 or more!
What's more, that 1.5% figure might be low. Many of the merchants offer percentage donations that are much higher. One printer inkjet company I looked at offered 13%!
Every merchant website you visit tells you right at the top what percentage of your purchase price will be donated to ACT! for America.
Just think what we could accomplish with an extra $15,000, $50,000 or $75,000 in our fight against radical Islam!
One of the things I most wanted to know was their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Check it out for yourself. I confirmed the terms with a company representative. And I like what I learned. As security-conscious as I am, I have no hesitation using the service-and I'm already doing so.
I know there are many people out there who would love to support ACT! for America, or give more than they're giving, but in these tough economic times they simply can't.
Well, here's a way that everyone who believes in our mission can easily support what we're doing-at no cost to them.
It doesn't get any better than that.
There are already chapter leaders who have signed up for the program, and the feedback I have been getting from them has been all positive. They love the idea and many of them are already using it.
So please, join me and these ACT! for America chapter leaders who are already signed up and using the iGive service.
Yours for a safe and free America
Guy Rodgers

Individuals sympathetic to the Muslim Brotherhood's sinister agenda have infiltrated the Obama Administration.
Brainwashed by the Muslim Students Association and then propelled in to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the David Horowitz Freedom Center tracks the path of Huma Abedin and other Muslim sympathizers who have navigated their way into positions of great influence in the Obama Administration. Everything is revealed in the explosive new Freedom Center pamphlet, "The Muslim Brotherhood in the Obama Administration," written by Frank Gaffney, national security expert who served as Assistant Secretary of Defense under Ronald Reagan.
The David Horowitz Freedom Center is committed to educating the public on the Muslim Brotherhood's sinister Agenda. That is why we are giving away this pamphlet for FREE.
This is a major push forward for APC in the battle to stop Agenda 21, and I need you to look it over and sign your approval to it.
Let me explain this vital project.
Across the nation, individuals and local activists have been working to stop the ravages of Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development. And we have won some astounding victories.
We've made Agenda 21 a major issue.
But we are vastly outgunned by the Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that are pushing this agenda from the UN all the way to your city council.
They are flooding state capitals with lobbyists, money, and a flood of issue documents. They are rich, powerful and well organized.
We aren't. We are a rag tag band of dedicated activists with passion for the cause of freedom and little else.
That has got to change.
Our activists need the tools necessary to win.
That's just what my "Stop Agenda 21" project is designed to provide.
NATHAN HARDEN is editor of The College Fix, a higher education news website, and blogs about higher education for National Review Online. A 2009 graduate of Yale, he has written for numerous publications, including National Review, The Weekly Standard, The American Spectator, The New York Post, and The Washington Times. He was a 2011 Robert Novak Fellow at the Phillips Foundation, a 2010 Publius Fellow at the Claremont Institute, and is author of the recent book Sex and God at Yale: Porn, Political Correctness, and a Good Education Gone Bad.
The following is adapted from a speech delivered at Hillsdale College on September 20, 2012.
In 1951, William F. Buckley, Jr., a graduate of Yale the year before, published his first book, God & Man at Yale. In the preface, he described two ideas that he had brought with him to Yale and that governed his view of the world:
"I had always been taught, and experience had fortified the teachings, that an active faith in God and a rigid adherence to Christian principles are the most powerful influences toward the good life. I also believed, with only a scanty knowledge of economics, that free enterprise and limited government had served this country well and would probably continue to do so in the future."
The body of the book provided evidence that the academic agenda at Yale was openly antagonistic to those two ideas-that Buckley had encountered a teaching and a culture that were hostile to religious faith and that promoted collectivism over free market individualism. Rather than functioning as an open forum for ideas, his book argued, Yale was waging open war upon the faith and principles of its alumni and parents.
GOP Proposes Unlimited Borrowing For Government Until May
Apparently, what the GOP meant by temporarily raising the debt limit was "suspending" it altogether. This will give everybody a taste of what it's like not to have a debt ceiling at all. Writing for Brietbart, Mike Flynn wrote that suspending the debt ceiling would effectively be giving the government a blank check until May:
"With [the debt ceiling in place], the government had more flexibility to manage its affairs while preserving the Constitutional principle that Congress controlled the purse strings. "Suspending" the debt ceiling until May upends this principle. Upon enactment, the government's borrowing authority would be unlimited until May. Presumably, the government could borrow trillions in this window, providing either the markets or the Fed would meet the new supply of debt."
So, now the GOP doesn't seem too concerned about the whole debt limit thing. Who needs a cap on borrowing money anyway?
Isn't it ironic that just 7 years ago, then-Senator Obama spoke out so harshly against raising the debt limit? In March of 2006, he stated on the Senate floor:
"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can't pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. ... Leadership means that 'the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America's debt limit."
New polling from Washington Post-ABC News and Pew find that President Obama's campaign to repress the Second Amendment right "keep and bear arms" is faltering.
On January 22, 2013, Pew released polling results that found the public followed news about Obama's gun control proposals closely and the reaction is mixed. Only 39 percent think Obama's proposals are about right, while 31 percent think the proposals go too far. Or, as Politico put it, "39 percent back Obama gun plan."
Of course there is the usual partisan divide. A 57 percent majority of Republicans say the proposals go too far, and 25 percent say they are about right. A 55 percent majority of Democrats (55%) say the proposals s are about right, and 10 percentsay they go too far. Independents are more evenly divided - 36 percent say the proposals are about right, while 33 percent say they go too far.. . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2.After Big Punt, Here's How GOP Can Score
As a conservative, I hate when Republicans constantly punt on spending. It's annoying, and it keeps happening. We have no reason to think it won't keep happening.
American Majority Action opposed the House GOP leadership's plan to suspend the debt ceiling for four months without spending cuts. We believe that the day to stop stealing from our children is today-not tomorrow, not four months from now.
However, the House passed it anyway, with 33 conservatives dissenting. Now that it's passed, and the Senate will likely pass it, the real question becomes: Now what?
It's important to note that outgoing Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Jordan voted for this debt ceiling suspension. Jordan, by all intents and purposes, is the primary leader of conservatives in the House. So, why did he vote for more debt?. . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3.Finally, Honest Words From the Pro-Abortion Society
I feel like singing the Hallelujah Chorus right now.No more "safe, legal and rare" canard. No more lies about how an unborn child is just a "bunch of cells".The left is finally coming "out of the closet" on the truth that life begins at conception and abortion is murder.Or at least, one author on the left is doing so...Salon author Mary Elizabeth Williams who is the author of an article entitled "So what if abortion ends life?" . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4.The Deadly Truth About Workplace Freedom
The Ohio Education Association (OEA), union campaign arm We Are Ohio, and other labor groups hope to convince Ohioans that workplace freedom kills workers. Ohio union bosses are desperate to keep mandatory union dues in place across the state following the December 2012 adoption of a right to work law in neighboring Michigan.
Confronted with evidence that letting workers choose whether to pay a union spurs job growth, supporters of forced unionism insist every economic factor except workplace freedom deserves credit. Meanwhile, OEA and We Are Ohio attack Ohioans for Workplace Freedom by claiming the group's proposed constitutional amendment would reduce wages, increase poverty, cut health benefits, and even kill workers. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

During her Senate testimony yesterday, when Secretary of State Hillary Clinton angrily blurted out, "What difference, at this point, does it make," she told us a great deal about how this administration views the Benghazi disaster.
Sen. Ron Johnson repeatedly pressed Clinton for an answer as to why those evacuated from Benghazi weren't immediately questioned by the administration as to what actually happened.
This was a fair question to ask, and it needed to be asked. Why indeed didn't this happen?
Just as repeatedly, Clinton dodged answering, until she delivered this stunner:
But, but, you know, with all due respect, the fact is, we have four dead Americans. Was it because of a protest, or was it because of guys out for a walk one night, who decided they'd go kill some Americans? What difference, at this point, does it make?
To quote Secretary Clinton, "with all due respect," it makes a HUGE difference, for many reasons-not the least of which is the families of the victims deserve to know what happened and why.
If the administration doesn't care why this tragedy occurred, and what allowed it to occur, how will it fix any problems to ensure it doesn't happen again?
Or does the administration even recognize that there are problems to be fixed?
Does it even entertain the possibility that its "soft footprint" approach to an area like Benghazi was a failure?
Does it even entertain the possibility that its stubborn refusal to acknowledge "jihad" as a prime motivation for Islamic terrorism may have contributed to this disaster?
That its refusal to acknowledge "jihad," for reasons such as its apparent fear that doing so will offend the Muslim Brotherhood, may be why decisions were made to ignore Ambassador Stevens' repeated concerns about security at the Benghazi consulate?
There is a maxim of war that's pretty ironclad: If you can't, or won't, accurately define your enemy, it will be harder to defeat that enemy.
So long as this administration persists in looking at the world through the lens of "see no jihad" it will inaccurately define our enemy.
And it will learn very little from Benghazi.
Or Cairo.
Or why militant Muslims around the world protested and rioted in response to the administration's repeated claims that a video caused what happened at Benghazi.
Or why the more the administration apologized for the video, the more militant Muslims took to the streets.
That's what Secretary Clinton in effect told us: "Why" it happened doesn't matter.
Or if it does, this administration has made up its mind that its approach to radical Islamic terror wasn't in any way to blame, and it doesn't want to be confused by facts that contradict that view.
A Norfolk, Conn. Islamic Center got the Dept. of Justice to strongarm the city when the property they bought for a community center in a AAA residential neighborhood was rejected by the zoning commission.
CAIR, who bills themselves as a voice of moderation and a defender of human rights, has joined forces with a virulently anti-Semitic, radical Islamist who is banned from entering the U.S. in announcing a movie about Mohammed. The film's price tag is reported to be $1 billion.
Police Officer Paul Fields viewed the directive to attend an Islamic proselytizing event as "an unlawful order, as it is in direct conflict with my personal religious convictions, as well as to be conscience shocking."

After President Obama's second inaugural address, Van Jones, former Obama White House "green jobs" czar, praised the speech, calling it "Djobama Unchained" (after the controversial movie Django Unchained, about a freed slave taking revenge). On Wednesday night, during a lecture at Loyola University Chicago, I asked Jones what he meant. He explained that while President Obama is not a socialist, he is, in fact, a "communitarian."
After a long recapping of the first four years of the Obama's presidency, Jones elaborated:
It's very interesting to see him now, actually, free.
Watching this man for four years, for everything he's done to try to reach out to the other side, and frankly neglect his base, has just been called socialism, and just been called divisive, no matter what he does.
I was happy to see him unleashed and unchained and just be able to speak from his heart.
And what he said was, similar to what I've been saying, there is a "New Patriotism".

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived back in the Senate, after dodging a few falling safes, multiple banana peels and an ornery dog named Henry, to give a carefully prepared histrionic rant which can be summed up, "I do care a lot" and "None of this was my fault" and "What difference at this point does it make?"
The last isn't a sarcastic restatement. It's what she actually said.
It might make a difference to a Coptic Christian whose trailer was blamed by the leader of the free world for a series of Al Qaeda attacks against American diplomatic facilities and who was sent to prison on the orders of members of the administration.
That fellow of many names, now serving a year in prison, is the only one to actually get locked up. The ringleader of the attack walks the streets of Benghazi freely. A drone could make short work of him, but no drones are coming his way. Instead a car bomb, planted by Libyan enemies nearly took him out. Some of the other Benghazi attackers were killed by the Algerian military during the siege; doing the work that Obama won't do. If the Benghazi terrorists finally die, it will most likely be at the hands of the French, the Syrian army or Libyan rival militias.
Benghazi, Obama said, during his appearance with Jon Stewart, the man of many grimaces, was a bump in the road. And that's all it was. The Obama campaign bus drove over four bodies and reached its destination in an armored parking garage somewhere in D.C. An irritated Hillary Clinton, who is prepping for her own bus tour in 2016, has every reason to demand to know what difference it makes now to discuss who lied about what and who failed to secure the Benghazi mission.
The election is over, and her testimony was delayed until after the fat lady held up her talking points at the debate and sang. Al Qaeda is dead, except for the parts of it rampaging across Syria, Iraq, Mali, Libya, Algeria and Pakistan, and a decade of war is coming to an end or just beginning. It makes no difference now which one of those it really is, just as it makes no difference, whether, as Clinton said, it happened "because of a protest or was it because of guys out for a walk one night decided to go kill some Americans?"
Quotes Jewish leaders' and elected officials' concerns about Hagel's record on Israel, Iran
RJC Urges Senate to Vote No on Hagel nomination
Washington, D.C. (January 24, 2013) -- The Republican Jewish Coalition today released a web ad quoting prominent Jewish leaders and elected officials who have expressed serious concerns about Chuck Hagel's nomination to be Secretary of Defense.
The ad, entitled "Say 'No' to Chuck Hagel," quotes Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY), Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT), and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), as well as Abe Foxman, Rabbi Abraham Cooper, and the Washington Post editorial board. All of them find Hagel's views and record to be deeply troubling.
The ad urges viewers to call their Senators and ask them to vote "no" on the Hagel nomination.
RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks said, "Chuck Hagel's record on Israel, on Iran, and on other vital defense issues is cause for real concern. President Obama's choice of Chuck Hagel for Secretary of Defense signals a weakening commitment by the President toward Israel in his second term. We strongly oppose this nomination and we urge members of the Senate to do the same."
Background: What They're Saying about Chuck Hagel:
Rep Eliot Engel: "It seems there is some kind of endemic hostility toward Israel, and that's troublesome for me and for a lot of other people... I think in the sensitive post of secretary of defense, those are warning bells, those are red lights." (C-SPAN, 12/21/12)
Sen. Joe Lieberman: "Chuck Hagel has consistently been against economic sanctions to try to change the behavior of the Islamist regime, the radical regime in Tehran, which is the only way to do it, short of war." (CNN, 12/23/12)
Sen. Lindsey Graham: "Chuck Hagel, if confirmed to be the secretary of defense, would be the most antagonistic secretary of defense toward the state of Israel in our nation's history." (CNN, 1/6/2013)
Abe Foxman: "Chuck Hagel would not be the first, second, or third choice for the American Jewish community's friends of Israel. His record relating to Israel and the U.S.-Israel relationship is, at best, disturbing, and at worst, very troubling. The sentiments he's expressed about the Jewish lobby border on anti-Semitism in the genre of professors John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt and former president Jimmy Carter." (Washington Post, 12/18/2012)
Rabbi Abraham Cooper: "Whatever the context [for Hagel's "Jewish lobby" comments], the shorthand in the Middle East, Europe and online is so far gone. That terminology is really now shorthand for the worst kind of anti-Semitic mindset." (Washington Post, 12/19/2012)
Washington Post editors: "Mr. Hagel's stated positions on critical issues, ranging from defense spending to Iran, fall well to the left of those pursued by Mr. Obama during his first term - and place him near the fringe of the Senate that would be asked to confirm him." (Washington Post, 12/18/2012)

The RJC is the national grassroots organization of Jewish Republicans.
The Convention theme was all about getting American Muslims to experience a "double revolution in intellect and psychology," so they'd be energized enough to stand up to an alleged atmosphere of "Islamophobia" in the U.S. that has shariah in its sights.
With pro-al-Qaeda Islamist militants running amok in northwest Africa seizing territory and taking hostages, it's far from clear that Team Obama has the foggiest idea of what to do.
After participating in a debate in London about Israeli communities beyond the 1949 armistice lines, I can now say from personal experience that Amis is correct. The public atmosphere in England regarding Israel is ugly and violent.
The United States suffers from a character flaw -- "political correctness." PC silences the majority, for fear speaking out will trigger the "-ist" label -- as a racist, sexist, supremacist, etc.

Muslim Brotherhood group to 'connect all U.S. schools'
Partners with State, Education departments on international initiative
byAaron Klein
JERUSALEM - A Muslim Brotherhood-linked organization has partnered with the U.S. Department of Education and the State Department to facilitate an online program aiming to connect all U.S. schools with classrooms abroad by 2016.
WND previously exposed that Gregorian served as a point man in granting $49.2 million in startup capital to an education-reform project founded by former Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers and chaired by Obama.
Documentation shows Gregorian was central in Ayers' recruitment of Obama to serve as the first chairman of the project, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge - a job in which Obama worked closely on a regular basis with Ayers.
Obama also later said his job at the project qualified him to run for public office, as WND previously reported.
Evidence links him to Viet Cong disinformation campaign
byJerome R. Corsi
Editor's Note: This article draws heavily from an article Jerome Corsi previously co-authored with Scott Swett, founder of WinterSoldier.com, titled "John Kerry and the VVAW: Hanoi's American Puppets," published May 6, 2007.
NEW YORK - If the subject of Vietnam comes up at the Senate confirmation hearings for Sen. John Kerry's nomination to be secretary of state, it's likely that an attempt will be made to characterize Kerry's participation in the radical group Vietnam Veterans Against the War as nothing more than a respectful disagreement by a loyal citizen concerned about peace and freedom.
What is unlikely to be probed is the extensive public record showing Kerry and his comrades with VVAW were engaged in working directly with the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese government, contrary to U.S. government war policy.
Kerry, while he was yet a Naval Reserve officer, met without official authorization in Paris with representatives of the Viet Cong and the Vietnamese government during the Paris Peace talks. He subsequently returned to the U.S. to implement specific anti-war protests as instructed by Hanoi in a disinformation plan designed to cause the U.S. government to lose the war in by eroding public support.
In June 1970, Kerry met with leaders of both delegations, the Viet Cong and the Vietnamese government, in Paris, in unauthorized discussions that included Madame Binh, the foreign minister of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of South Vietnam, also known as the Viet Cong. Publicly released FBI surveillance reports document that Kerry, then acting as a spokesman for the VVAW, returned to Paris to meet with the North Vietnamese delegation in August 1971 and planned a third trip in November 1971.
Florida Family Association urges advertisers to drop Al Jazeera America - Current TV. Have you sent your email to DirecTV?
Click hereto send your email to encourage DirecTV officials to put America first by dropping the Al Jazeera America (aka Current TV) channel.
Florida Family Association sent out an email alert on January 14, 2013 which reported that Al Jazeera, the Arabic news television channel headquartered in the Middle East (Doha, Qatar), purchased the Current TV channel which has the potential of reaching millions of viewers in the United States. Al Jazeera America is the new, tentative name for Current TV. Al Jazeera is the mouthpiece for the Muslim Brotherhood and Arab Spring. The Muslim Brotherhood is the single largest promoter of the Islamist movement in the world. Nothing less should be expected to come from Al Jazeera's access to cable viewers in America.
The Florida Family Association office has started contacting companies that are promoting their products on Al Jazeera America (aka Current TV) to encourage them "to put America first" by dropping their advertising. The email that is being sent to the CEO and Marketing VP of each company is posted below. The names of companies and their products that continue to advertise on this network after February 1, 2013 will be posted to an article at Floridafamily.org and numerous activist web sites that are concerned about Al Jazeera's access to American television. Frequent or leading advertisers will be prominently displayed and repeatedly reported in future email alerts.
The January 14, 2013 email alert identified DirecTV as the leading outlet for the Al Jazeera America (aka Current TV) channel and encouraged readers to send emails urging DirecTV to drop the channel. Time Warner has already removed the Current TV channel. The response to this email campaign has been OUTSTANDING. Many supporters of this campaign have sent their emails. In fact, many DirecTV customers modified the prepared email to mention that they would switch to another company if DirecTV continues to carry Al Jazeera America.
Many people who have not sent their email to DirecTV yet. Please click here to send your email encouraging DirecTV to drop the Al Jazeera America channel.
Also, please forward this email to family and friends to encourage them to send the email on this important issue. Thank you for your support.

Email that is being sent to Al Jazeera America (aka Current TV) channel advertisers.
Name of CEO Company Name
Dear Name of CEO,
We are contacting companies that advertise on Al Jazeera America (aka Current TV) with the hope that they will put America first by withdrawing their advertising support. The names of companies and their products that continue to advertise on this network after February 1, 2013 will be posted to numerous activist web sites that are concerned about Al Jazeera's access to American television. Frequent or leading advertisers will be prominently displayed and repeatedly reported.
Company name is a leading advertiser on Al Jazeera America (aka Current TV) according to our monitoring records. Product advertised on Al Jazeera America (aka Current TV on date at time on Current TV, Comcast channel 107. However, numerous other Company Name advertisements were also recorded.
The Wall Street Journal reports: "More due diligence might have included a review of the close journalistic coverage over the years of Al Jazeera's Arabic and English broadcasts, which discloses the unsurprising fact that the network reflects the interests of the government that runs it-making it akin to Vladimir Putin's Russia Today and Beijing's Xinhua. The emir of Qatar, Hamid bin Khalifa Al Thani, appointed his cousin as chairman of Al Jazeera. The emir was last in the news for donating $400 million to Hamas, ..."
Al Jazeera is the mouthpiece for the Muslim Brotherhood and Arab Spring. The Muslim Brotherhood is the single largest promoter of the Islamist movement in the world. Nothing less should be expected to come from Al Jazeera's access to cable viewers in America. "The channel is tentatively being called Al Jazeera America, but a source close to the company says that it isn't wedded to the name, and may try to create a new brand." According to TVNEWSER (mediabistro.com).
Current TV only has 22,000 viewers. Americans by and large are NOT interested in the content of Current TV. If any increase occurs in the number of viewers of Al Jazeera America it will be because of Al Jazeera's Islamist propaganda which does not serve America well.
We urge Company Name to put America first by dropping its advertising support for this channel.
Sincerely,
David Caton, Executive Director Florida Family Association P.O. Box 46547 Tampa, FL 33646-0105 Phone (813) 264-5888
This article is wonderful proof of the motto, "Please forward to others... There's safety in numbers." In a democracy such as ours, there really is safety in numbers. While politicians may often have their own agendas, their ability to go against public opinion is limited and they know it. In the article below you'll see how public protest against the proposed Gulen school in northern Virginia turned a Senator against it.
The more of us who speak out against Islam, the more political clout we'll have. And the more people we email these broadcasts to, the louder our voice against Islam will be.
Our mission is clear...

Proposed Loudoun charter denied application extension
Posted by Valerie Strauss on January 23, 2013
An effort by a group of Turkish immigrants to get more time to develop their application to open a charter school in Loudoun County - which would be the first there and possibly in Northern Virginia - was rejected by a 6-3 vote of the county's school board. The vote means that the board will decide on the controversial application in late February.
The proposal to open the Loudoun Math & IT Academy was approved by state officials last summer and then sent to county for more intense scrutiny. A three-member select committee of the board voted last month against recommending that the full panel approve the school because of continuing questions involving curriculum, a lack of transportation for students and other operational issues. In hearings, the applicants were unable to answer basic questions about curriculum, student transportation and other subjects to the satisfaction of the members.
In an undated letter, state Sen. Richard H. Black (R-Leesburg), said he was withdrawing support for the proposed charter for another reason. It says in part:
...Unfortunately, I was not fully apprised of certain misgivings expressed by the public regarding this proposal.
Secretary insists she did not know about gun-running at U.S. mission
by Aaron Klein
JERUSALEM - During the Senate hearing on Benghazi yesterday, outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton claimed she did not know whether the U.S. special mission attacked on Sept. 11 was involved in gun-running.
The remarks were perhaps the most important and telling of the entire hearing since they address a possible motive behind the jihadist attacks.
Yet Clinton's answers were largely unreported by U.S. news media.
The exchange on the subject took place with Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky.
Paul asked Clinton: "Is the U. S. involved with any procuring of weapons, transfer of weapons, buying, selling, anyhow transferring weapons to Turkey out of Libya?
"To Turkey?" Clinton asked. "I will have to take that question for the record. Nobody has ever raised that with me."
Continued Paul: "It's been in news reports that ships have been leaving from Libya and that may have weapons, and what I'd like to know is the annex that was close by, were they involved with procuring, buying, selling, obtaining weapons, and were any of these weapons being transferred to other countries, any countries, Turkey included?"
Clinton replied, "Well, senator, you'll have to direct that question to the agency that ran the annex. I will see what information is available."
"You're saying you don't know?" asked Paul.
"I do not know," Clinton said. "I don't have any information on that."
That section of the exchange with Paul was almost entirely ignored by media, which instead focused on the Republican senator's earlier statement that if he were president he would have relieved Clinton of her post.
This is part one of a multi-part interview with a government insider intimately familiar with the events that took place in Benghazi. In this part, he provides important background, and explains this administration is engaged in a massive cover-up.
DH: It's been a while since we've discussed Benghazi. What have you heard lately?
II: Before I answer that, I want to get a few things off my chest. Every politician, whether it's a congressman senator, diplomat, or their spokespeople and the media are lying to the American public every time they call the location of the attack a consulate. It was not. There was absolutely no diplomatic consulate in Benghazi. None. Words are important here. They can create a wrong image, an incorrect picture of what was really going on. The property where our Ambassador and other Americans were murdered was a rented villa consisting of a primary residence with a couple of outbuildings behind the actual house. The reason they're still calling it a consulate is to subtly divert any questions about our activities there.
DH: Let's go over this again; exactly what was taking place at Benghazi?
II: As I said, the place where the attack happened is one of the largest, one of the most active CIA operation centers in North Africa, if not in the entire Middle East. It was not a diplomatic station. It was a planning and operations center, a logistics hub for weapons and arms being funneled out of Libya. Unlike the embassy in Tripoli, there was limited security in Benghazi. Why? So the operation did not draw attention to what was going on there.

The renewed "discussion" about school shooters has raised many ideas about how to prevent and to stop active shooters. Mass rushes of unarmed teachers and children at armed killers, Tasers, and beanbag rounds are some of the more prominent suggestions being bandied about. The only rational response to active shooters, the only response that will deter attacks and can immediately end them, is to train with and use appropriate firearms and ammunition.

One idea I used to hold, and that still makes perfect sense to most of my Christian brethren, is the notion that man cannot rationally demonstrate an absolute morality in a world without God. This perspective contrasts with that typically offered by atheists and agnostics, who assert that right and wrong can be discerned without reference to the supernatural.

We Are Witnessing The Slow, Tortuous Death Of The American Worker By American Dream RightSideNews.com
Once upon a time, the U.S. economy produced a seemingly unending supply of good paying jobs that enabled American workers to buy homes, raise families and live the American Dream. But now all of that has changed. Over the past several decades, there have been some fundamental shifts in our economy that have steadily eroded the value of the American worker.

Here's one lawmaker - from New York, no less - who's rejecting Feinstein's characterization of the Second Amendment as having anything to do with hunting.
While Rand Paul's comment -- that had he been president he would have removed Secretary of State Hillary Clinton from her position because of her claimed ignorance of memos pointing out inadequate security at the Benghazi mission -- was widely reported, his far more important line of questioning went largely unreported.

If you missed it over the weekend, Episode 41 of the Hinderaker-Ward Experience is a fun show, and still timely. I posted this on Saturday:
Last night, Brian Ward and I covered the good-a terrific interview with Roger Simon and his wife Sheryl Longin-the bad-Lance Armstrong-and the ugly-the bizarre controversy over Manti Teo's nonexistent girlfriend. This is how Brian described the podcast over at Ricochet:
The Hinderaker-Ward Experience (HWX) podcast returns for a special Friday night edition.
Over some Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye and a hardcore brandy and eggnog, the boys bump their heads up against the debt ceiling and contrast President Obama's current strident condemnations of Congressional resistance to raising the debt to Senator Obama's past strident condemnations of Presidential requests to raise the debt. They also come to terms with telling lies in America through the dark glass of Manti T'eo and Lance Armstrong.
Next they delve into the exotic world of thespianism when they are joined by the great Roger Simon and Sheryl Longin, for an entertaining discussion of their new play, The Party Line.
Things then wrap up with the Loon of the Week (featuring Constitutional scholar Danny Glover), This Week in Gatekeeping (featuring a serial columnist fabricator), and this weeks Ricochet Listener/Member of the Week - the legendary Sean!
Care to be the next Listener/Member of the Week and appear on the next Hinderaker Ward Experience podcast? Be the first one to name the phrase that pays in the comments section, and you're in. It's as easy at that.
We hope you enjoy and thanks for listening.
I especially commend to your attention the interview with Roger and Sheryl and their new play, The Party Line. It weaves together two stories, separated in time by 70 years or so. One concerns Walter Duranty, the corrupt New York Times reporter who won a Pulitzer Prize for covering up for Stalin; the other features Pim Fortuyn, the assassinated Dutch politician. The Party Line is a colorful, entertaining two-act play that would be fun to see performed, but it is also great to read. You can buy it at Amazon here.
You can listen to the podcast by playing it right here, or you can go to Ricochet to download or subscribe to the podcast in various ways, or you can hit the subscribe button in the graphic above to subscribe on iTunes or elsewhere. Or you can use Stitcher. There are many ways to experience the Hinderaker-Ward Experience, but I think the best is by subscribing on iTunes. That way, you never have to worry about missing an episode.
Meeting Ayaan Hirsi Ali at the fourth annual Presidential Conference in Jerusalem this past June may have been my personal highlight of the year. I posted videos of my interview with her here and here. She is a true friend of Israel and the Jewish people.
If the short term poses temporary challenges, I'm afraid that it's a long, long way to temporary. With Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood president seizing the levers of power and with his familiar anti-Semitic animus, one can't help but wonder if there is any off ramp in Egypt's future, especially with the continuing if misguided support of the United States. In the higher wisdom of Team Obama, the Muslim Brotherhood is A-OK.
In any event, the New York Times has published Ayaan's excellent op-ed column on Morsi's anti-Semitism last week under the heading "Raised on hatred." As we noted in "Morsi explains," Morsi claims (for American consumption) that his remarks have been taken out of context. Andrew Bostom supplies additional context, and Clifford May has a related column.
Yesterday at his Foreign Policy blog The Cable, Josh Rogin supplied supplied a bit more, ah, context to Morsi's claim that his anti-Semitic remarks were taken out of context. Rogin's report is worth an extended look:
Last week in Cairo, seven U.S. senators had a highly contentious meeting with Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy during which the Muslim Brotherhood leader implied that he was the victim of an American media run by the Jews.
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) led a delegation last week to Egypt, Jordan, Israel, and Afghanistan that included Sens. Chris Coons (D-DE), Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), and Kirsten Gilibrand (D-NY). Their stop in Cairo included a 90-minute meeting with Morsy that devolved into an uncomfortable set of exchanges as the senators pressed the Egyptian president to explain his 2010 comments describing Jews as "bloodsuckers who attack Palestinians" as well as "the descendants of apes and pigs."
After the meeting, McCain issued a statement saying that the senators "voiced our strong disapproval of the statement" and that the senators and Morsy "had a constructive discussion on this subject." Morsy's spokesman issued a statement after the meeting saying that Morsy believed in religious freedom and "the need to distinguish between the Jewish religion, and those who belong to it, and violent actions against defenseless Palestinians."
But inside the meeting, the discussion over Morsy's 2010 remarks was much more heated than either side publicly acknowledged afterwards, according to Coons. Addressing the comments was the first item on the senators' agenda, and the discussion did not go well, he told The Cable in an interview.
"We tried to give President Morsy an opportunity, now that he is the president, to put his comments in a different context because he was claiming that he was taken out of context. On their face they seemed to be very offensive and inappropriate," Coons said. "It was a difficult conversation."
Morsy told the senators that the values of Islam teach respect for Christianity and Judaism, and he asserted repeatedly that he had no negative views about Judaism or the Jewish people, but then followed with a diatribe about Israel and Zionist actions against Palestinians, especially in Gaza.
Then Morsy crossed a line and made a comment that made the senators physically recoil in their chairs in shock, Coons said.
"He was attempting to explain himself ... then he said, 'Well, I think we all know that the media in the United States has made a big deal of this and we know the media of the United States is controlled by certain forces and they don't view me favorably,'" Coons said.
The Cable asked Coons if Morsy specifically named the Jews as the forces that control the American media. Coons said all the senators believed the implication was obvious.
"He did not say [the Jews], but I watched as the other senators physically recoiled, as did I," he said. "I thought it was impossible to draw any other conclusion."
"The meeting then took a very sharply negative turn for some time. It really threatened to cause the entire meeting to come apart so that we could not continue," Coons said.
Multiple senators impressed upon Morsy that if he was saying the criticisms of his comments were due to the Jews in the media, that statement was potentially even more offensive than his original comments from 2010.
"[Morsi] did not say the Jewish community was making a big deal of this, but he said something [to the effect] that the only conclusion you could read was that he was implying it," Coons said. "The conversation got so heated that eventually Senator McCain said to the group, 'OK, we've pressed him as hard as we can while being in the boundaries of diplomacy,'" Coons said. "We then went on to discuss a whole range of other topics."
Coons must be a decent man and something of a truth-teller, but seems to be enveloped in a cloud of unknowing. Both his decency and his cluelessness come through here:
"I appreciate that he respects and understands the vital importance of the U.S-Egyptian relationship, but clearly there is a lot of work to be done before we can feel comfortable that he respects American values," Coons said. "Securing a positive relationship going forward is important and in America's national interest, but we also cannot stand by and tolerate bigotry and hatred by foreign leaders."
The Associated Press has undertaken an ambitious series of reports on the rotten U.S. and global economies. To its credit, the AP recognizes that our current recovery is, by any historical standard, awful:
In the U.S., the economic recovery that started in June 2009 has been called the third straight "jobless recovery."
But that's a misnomer. The jobs came back after the first two.
Most recessions since World War II were followed by a surge in new jobs as consumers started spending again and companies hired to meet the new demand. In the months after recessions ended in 1991 and 2001, there was no familiar snap-back, but all the jobs had returned in less than three years.
But 42 months after the Great Recession ended, the U.S. has gained only 3.5 million, or 47 percent, of the 7.5 million jobs that were lost. The 17 countries that use the euro had 3.5 million fewer jobs last June than in December 2007.
What is the cause of this apparently permanent joblessness? The AP blames technology:
Most of the jobs will never return, and millions more are likely to vanish as well, say experts who study the labor market. What's more, these jobs aren't just being lost to China and other developing countries, and they aren't just factory work. Increasingly, jobs are disappearing in the service sector, home to two-thirds of all workers.
They're being obliterated by technology.
Year after year, the software that runs computers and an array of other machines and devices becomes more sophisticated and powerful and capable of doing more efficiently tasks that humans have always done. For decades, science fiction warned of a future when we would be architects of our own obsolescence, replaced by our machines; an Associated Press analysis finds that the future has arrived.
The baleful effect of technological advancement has spread throughout the economy:
For more than three decades, technology has reduced the number of jobs in manufacturing. Robots and other machines controlled by computer programs work faster and make fewer mistakes than humans. Now, that same efficiency is being unleashed in the service economy, which employs more than two-thirds of the workforce in developed countries. Technology is eliminating jobs in office buildings, retail establishments and other businesses consumers deal with every day.
The AP is aware, of course, that blaming unemployment on technology has a long and disreputable history. But this time, they tell us, it is different:
Technological innovations have been throwing people out of jobs for centuries. But they eventually created more work, and greater wealth, than they destroyed. Ford, the author and software engineer, thinks there is reason to believe that this time will be different. He sees virtually no end to the inroads of computers into the workplace. Eventually, he says, software will threaten the livelihoods of doctors, lawyers and other highly skilled professionals.
Many economists are encouraged by history and think the gains eventually will outweigh the losses. But even they have doubts.
"What's different this time is that digital technologies show up in every corner of the economy," says McAfee, a self-described "digital optimist." "Your tablet (computer) is just two or three years old, and it's already taken over our lives."
Peter Lindert, an economist at the University of California, Davis, says the computer is more destructive than innovations in the Industrial Revolution because the pace at which it is upending industries makes it hard for people to adapt.
But if the cycle of destruction and creation is speeding up, shouldn't that mean that new jobs are coming along faster than ever? Or is the problem that the cycle of destruction and creation has been interrupted, so that jobs (and wealth) are being destroyed, but not many jobs, and not much wealth, are being created?
The first installment of the AP series addresses job destruction, but never mentions economic growth. If the story were merely one of increased efficiency attributable to technology, wouldn't we be seeing GDP growth in line with prior recoveries? One would think so, but we aren't. GDP growth is lagging, just like job growth. That tells us there is more going on than mere increases in efficiency.
The AP stresses that the job loss phenomenon is global, pointing to unprecedented levels of unemployment in the European Union. But some would say the EU is poorly governed, just as the United States is. Moreover, if we look at unemployment data by country, there are obvious differences. Countries calculate unemployment differently, but the Bureau of Labor Statistics took the trouble to normalize selected countries' unemployment data to U.S. definitions; this chart is the result:
This comparison shows that the United States is doing quite poorly, even compared with countries that historically have had higher unemployment rates than ours. Why might that be, and what could account for GDP growth being so anemic in the U.S.? Poor government policies are the obvious explanation. The AP, with unintentional humor, notes that no country has done anything to stem technological innovation:
Technology is replacing workers in developed countries regardless of their politics, policies and laws. Union rules and labor laws may slow the dismissal of employees, but no country is attempting to prohibit organizations from using technology that allows them to operate more efficiently - and with fewer employees.
I should hope not, although the AP's attitude toward this consensus is unclear. But short of banning technological improvements, there are many important differences in governmental policies that affect the economy. Thus, Singapore-number two in the Heritage Foundation's 2013 Index of Economic Freedom-currently has an unemployment rate of 1.9%, just slightly lower than North Dakota's. Is Singapore technologically backward? I don't think so. A businessman friend of mine who travels there frequently told me recently that one-third of all Singapore residents over the age of 30 have a net worth in excess of $1 million. Wealth can be created rapidly, but not in an environment dominated by excessive regulation, bloated, wasteful government spending, and high taxes.
Technological innovation has always eliminated jobs, a fact for which we should be thankful: our ancestors were brick-makers, arrow fletchers and animal skinners. It has also created wealth, and that wealth has been invested in new ventures, using new technologies, that have created new jobs. This has been true for thousands of years. So what has seemingly changed so suddenly? It seems obvious that in the U.S., the game-changer is metastasizing government spending, much of it wasteful, combined with trillions of dollars in government borrowing and oppressive regulation, which together have suppressed the wealth creation and investment that normally would have created millions of new jobs, along with trillions in new economic output.
In other words, the current recovery is uniquely awful because we have never before had such a left-wing federal government. It will be interesting to see whether the Associated Press gets around to this explanation in its three-part series.
I know from reading the emails I get every day that Speaker John Boehner would probably not win an award for being Washington's most popular conservative. But speaking before the Ripon Society this week, he made it clear that he understands what the conservative movement is confronting in the Obama White House. Here's what Boehner said:
"And given what we heard yesterday about the president's vision for his second term, it's pretty clear to me that he knows he can't do any of that as long as the House is controlled by Republicans. So we're expecting over the next 22 months to be the focus of this Administration as they attempt to annihilate the Republican Party. And let me just tell you, I do believe that is their goal -- to just shove us into the dustbin of history."
Boehner gets it, my friends. He knows that everything this White House does is intended to make Republicans look bad and to turn voters against conservative values. Sadly, they appear to be succeeding.
And what made Boehner's comments all the more extraordinary was the venue. The Ripon Society is not the Heritage Foundation or the American Conservative Union. It describes itself as a "public policy advocacy organization representing all Americans through moderate, progressive policy formation." Yet that was the place where Speaker Boehner warned that Barack Obama plans to "annihilate the Republican Party."
The difficulty is how we move forward. As I have often noted, conservatives can't govern the country from the House of Representatives alone. Barack Obama is the president. Harry Reid controls the Senate. The left-wing media distort anything conservatives say, and a massive left-leaning federal bureaucracy frustrates whatever conservatives try to do.
Boehner acknowledged that conservatives are facing "an environment that is going to be far more hostile than anything that I think we've seen for a long, long time." He added that congressional Republicans have to pick their battles carefully.
I agree -- they do need to proceed carefully. But there is a difference between being careful and running for cover every time Obama launches another barrage of distortions and invective.
I have no doubt that will there will be disagreements over strategy from time to time. But we must always remember how high the stakes are, and that our movement has no chance whatsoever if we allow ourselves to become demoralized and divided.
No Budget, No Pay
Here's one example of how House Republicans are fighting smarter. Yesterday the House passed legislation to temporarily suspend the debt ceiling. This avoids for now a potential standoff that could have had catastrophic effects on the economy here at home and around the world.
The House wisely also included a provision that requires members of Congress to pass a budget. If they don't, their salaries will be suspended. As you may know, the Democrat Senate has failed to pass a budget for four years. Try running a business or your family finances like that!
According to a recent Fox News poll, 83% of the public believes federal spending is out of control. And a Rasmussen poll found that 81% of likely voters believe members of Congress should take a big pay cut until the budget is balanced.
Through this legislation, House Republicans avoided the dangers of being blamed for a default, while tapping into public anger over spending to highlight the failure of Senate Democrats to do their jobs. When the bill came up for a vote, 43% of House Democrats voted for it!
Obama: The Great Divider
In 2008 Barack Obama was swept into office on a wave of "hope and change." He promised to transcend partisanship, and many well-meaning men and women saw in Obama's election the culmination of Martin Luther King's dream.
But hope in Obama turned out to be a pipedream. No, actually it turned into a nightmare. His economic policies have given us "unprecedented stagnation."
On his radio show yesterday, Rush Limbaugh encouraged his listeners to hang in there and fight on, saying that socialism always fails and "Obamaism" will fail here too.
But Rush also had a warning about another part of Obama's agenda. The left-wing agenda is based partly on envy and the idea that Big Government is the "great equalizer." Just contrast the Occupy Wall Street movement with the Tea Party movement.
Rush warned his audience that Obama was dividing the country along racial and class lines. Consider this excerpt from his show yesterday:
"This country is being divided purposely along racial lines and class lines. I find it really stunning. We are going backwards in this country. We are separating people by class. We are separating people by race. ... The Obama people are thriving by telling their voters who they ought to hate, who they ought to oppose, who they ought to try to eliminate, wipe out, in a political sense, and it's all based on race or other forms of ethnicity. It's terrible.
"And now the Gallup poll is out and we've lost our optimism. And I don't think it's a coincidence. The level of optimism in this country is at a low not seen since 1979, Jimmy Carter. Only 39% of the people in this country are optimistic about the country. ...
"We're in the midst here of designed class and race wars. They're brewing out there. The president, in an inaugural address, the president of the United States was filled with venom for his political opponents, and there are 60 some odd million of them who voted against him. It's not just the Republicans in Washington. There's 67 million Americans who voted against Obama. He declared war against them, too. He declared war against Republicans and, by extension, anybody who voted for them.
"We've got the biggest domestic challenge this country's faced in a long time, under the guise of fixing all of these horrors that went on in our past. We're heading right back to them. We are reconstructing those horrors under the guise of fixing it all, finally."
This is why we cannot give in to despair and give up on America. As Abraham Lincoln warned in his time, "We shall nobly save, or meanly lose, the last best hope of earth."
Women To The Front
Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta announced yesterday that he was lifting the ban on women serving in frontline combat positions. I guess we all misunderstood what Obama meant when he talked about the "war on women." Apparently he really meant that he wanted more women to go to war.
California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein staged a dramatic press conference Thursday on Capitol Hill with 10 weapons at her side and unveiled legislation instituting a government ban on more than 150 types of firearms, including rifles, pistols and shotguns.

I find it really stunning. We are going backwards in this country. We are separating people by class. We are separating people by race. We are not encouraging people to do better. We are not inspiring people to be the best they can be. We are essentially acknowledging that people are not very good and don't have much hope. Well, not "we." Club for Growth president blasts Chris Christie over Sandy aid By Alexandra Jaffe
Club for Growth President Chris Chocola on Thursday sharply criticized New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's (R) handling of the fight for Hurricane Sandy aid, saying the potential 2016 GOP presidential candidate sowed doubts among conservatives about whether he is a "real reformer" on government spending.
"I think he lost an opportunity, really, to cement his position there," Chocola said in an interview with The Hill.
Feinstein introduces sweeping ban on assault weapons By Alexander Bolton
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and a group of Senate Democrats on Thursday introduced legislation to ban the sale and manufacture of more than 150 types of semi-automatic weapons with military-style features.
The legislation also bans magazines holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition and requires people who already own assault rifles to use secure storage and safety devices and bars them from selling high-capacity clips.
"No weapon is taken from anyone," said Feinstein. "The purpose is to dry up the supply of these weapons over time."
A recent report from the actuaries at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has the Washington community all atwitter because it may suggest that health costs are permanently slowing down. The CMS team found that health spending slowed in 2011 for the third year, growing no faster than the rest of the economy.
Health spending as a proportion of gross domestic product (GDP) has now remained stable from 2009 through 2011 at 17.9%, after increasing seemingly relentlessly for many years. If that pattern continues, it could have big implications politically and economically.
The jury is still out, however, on whether the cause of the slowdown is the long, deep recession. As the CMS report's authors point out, the recession certainly had some effect on the numbers. For instance, rising unemployment meant a decline in employer-based coverage, leading to many families seeking more economical ways of getting care or putting off treatment. And with economic uncertainty continuing, even well-insured households remain cautious about health spending.
But the $64,000 question is whether there are also deeper structural changes taking place in health care that will carry over after the direct effects of the recession have disappeared.
There are some reasons to be optimistic about deeper changes taking hold. For instance, the wider use of generic drugs encouraged by insurers is unlikely to reverse in better economic times. Moreover, hospitals and the medical profession today have a very different attitude toward systematic cost control and toward teams and networks than used to be the case. About 20% of all physicians are now employed by hospitals. That's up 32% since 2000, according to the American Hospital Association's most recent statistics. And there's a growing acceptance by physicians of the need to work together in teams with an eye on both cost and better medical outcomes.

Think your state has equal representation in the Senate? Well, that could be eliminated soon.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid-a Democrat from Nevada-is trying to ensure that he personally has the final say on all legislation. And under one plan being considered, only three other Senators would be allowed any meaningful contributions.
Reid has been talking with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) about an agreement on this nefarious plan. But whether it passes with McConnell's blessing or without, it is dangerous to everyone not represented by Harry Reid.
Until, of course, Harry Reid is no longer a Senator. Then, the scepter of power would pass to the next Majority Leader. But Reid and his gang aren't thinking about that day. They're thinking about today-and the ability to pass legislation without any opposition.
The ill-named "filibuster reform" proposals floating around on Capitol Hill include the following:
Make it easier for one party to pass legislation, even if half the Senate disagrees: To stop debate on a contentious issue, 60 votes are now required. But the proposal being floated would create a way for the Majority Leader to pass any proposal with only 51 votes.
Create four "Super Senators" who hold the true power: Only four Senators would be able to offer amendments to legislation, effectively shutting out the other 96 from the legislative process.
Special power for the Majority Leader: The Majority Leader (now Reid) would have the special authority to add an amendment after debate is finished on a particular bill. Combined with the 51-vote threshold, this change would allow the Majority Leader to jam through just about anything without the Senate even debating it.
In short, this is a terrible plan that would hand all of the Senate's power to four people and would turn the Majority Leader into a tyrant.
It's such a bad idea that even Reid himself argued against similar changes-when he was in the minority.
Back then, so long ago in 2005, Reid was a strong defender of the minority party's right to filibuster legislation and slow the progress of bills.
one of the good things about this institution we have found in the 214 years it has been in existence is that the filibuster, which has been in existence since the beginning, from the days of George Washington...in all the political writings about filibuster, that is one of the things they talk about as a positive. It forces people to get together because sometimes in this body you become very fixed.
what [the American people] don't expect, is for one party, be it Republican or Democrat, to change the rules in the middle of the game so that they can make all the decisions while the other party is told to sit down and keep quiet...everyone in this chamber knows that if the majority chooses to end the filibuster-if they choose to change the rules and put an end to democratic debate-then the fighting and the bitterness and the gridlock will only get worse.
Much as he did with the debt ceiling, President Obama has already made the case against his party's current position. And a good case it was.
Think of all the legislation Democrats want to pass in the new Congress-and then imagine them doing it without any opposition whatsoever. That's the urgent danger in the Senate.

Roe at 40: Enduring Victories and Challenges for the Pro-Life Movement
Today marks the 40th anniversary of the Supreme Court's decision in Roe v. Wade that overturned state abortion laws and sanctioned abortion on demand across the United States.
Despite the proclamations of supporters that the Court's pronouncements in Roe and its accompanying case Doe v. Bolton had "settled" the abortion issue, nothing could be further from the truth.
Chuck Donovan, president of the Charlotte Lozier Institute, comments that these cases "remain the ultimate in unsettling law, upending the meaning of the Declaration of Independence and creating conditions where human lives are not seen as created equal in value."
It's a decision that has come at an unspeakable cost: Estimates suggest that more than 55 million abortions have occurred since 1973.
Just a few years after the Roe decision, then-President Ronald Reagan recounted the steep toll of the Court's ruling on society and the future preservation of American values:
Abortion has denied [these children] the first and most basic of human rights, and we are infinitely poorer for their loss. We are poorer not simply for lives not led and for contributions not made, but also for the erosion of our sense of the worth and dignity of every individual. To diminish the value of one category of human life is to diminish us all.
Supporters of the Roe decision have felt the pressing weight of that truth for 40 years. No longer able to convince new generations that denying life to some will lead to greater happiness for others, the philosophy of Roe-like its original champions-isn't so vigorous today.
According to Americans United for Life, at least 60 new pro-life laws were enacted in states across the country last year alone. Thousands of community-based pregnancy centers have harnessed the best of the power and spirit of civil society, providing compassionate counseling, holistic support, and accurate information to women facing unplanned pregnancies.
Since 1973, the pro-life movement's many foot soldiers have charged the hill of American law and culture to victories so impressive that even Time magazine has recognized that pro-abortion advocates are on the losing side.
Still, the challenges to life, conscience, and freedom that inevitably stem from sanctioned abortion on demand persist.
Every year, the federal government entangles taxpayers in the abortion business, sending hundreds of millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood, which performs one out of four abortions in the United States. Washington also funnels federal aid to a number of international groups that promote and perform abortions-at least one of which has been implicated in abetting China's coercive one-child policy.
Then there's Obamacare. The health care law that is wreaking havoc on religious liberty through its anti-conscience mandate also provides weak and limited conscience protections for medical providers and opens avenues for increased individual and taxpayer funding of abortion.
Though these and many other challenges continue to test their resolve, pro-life leaders have a winning strategy that has proven effective in changing hearts, minds, and laws: "Witness to the truth matters for its own sake," writes Heritage's William E. Simon Fellow Ryan Anderson on the anniversary of Roe, "but persistent, winsome witness also tends to bear good fruit, even if it takes 40 years and counting."
With the courageous efforts and continued victories of many leaders in the pro-life movement, hope remains that it won't take another 40 years for government to respect the conscience rights of individuals, medical providers, and taxpayers and ensure the basic rights of liberty and life for everyone-including those yet to be born.
Obama's New Audacity By Terence P. Jeffrey Judging from his first-term rhetoric, Obama did not deem belief in God and deference to His authority essential elements in his own vision for America. So, why did Obama concede in his second inaugural address that our rights come from our Creator? Perhaps he was not seeking to reaffirm an ancient truth, but redefine the very foundation of our society.
Destroying The U.S. Military From Within By Frank J. Gaffney, Jr. The Obama administration's announcement that it is going to put women in front-line ground combat positions is but the latest example of a deliberate and systematic wrecking operation it has conducted against the armed forces since 2009.
Obama 'Cements His Legacy' L. Brent Bozell III Liberal journalists don't want lofty oratory in Obama's second term. They've made it clear they want conservatives defeated and "delegitimized."
Obama's Orwellian Inaugural Address By Ben Shapiro To President Obama, the Constitution is meaningless unless it is being wielded as a club against those who actually value the founding ideology for which it stands.
