(Prison Planet) - Nobel Peace Prize Nominee: Obama Asks Military Leaders If They Will "Fire On US Citizens". Shock claim purported to come from "one of America's foremost military heroes"
2009 Nobel Peace Prize nominee Jim Garrow shockingly claims he was told by a top military veteran that the Obama administration's "litmus test" for new military leaders is whether or not they will obey an order to fire on U.S. citizens. Garrow was nominated three years ago for the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize and is the founder of The Pink Pagoda Girls, an organization dedicated to rescuing baby girls from "gendercide" in China. Garrow has been personally involved in "helping rescue more than 36,000 Chinese baby girls from death."
He is a public figure, not an anonymous voice on the Internet, which makes his claim all the more disturbing. "I have just been informed by a former senior military leader that Obama is using a new "litmus test" in determining who will stay and who must go in his military leaders. Get ready to explode folks. "The new litmus test of leadership in the military is if they will fire on US citizens or not". Those who will not are being removed," Garrow wrote on his Facebook page, later following up the post by adding the man who told him is, "one of America's foremost military heroes," whose goal in divulging the information was to "sound the alarm."
Garrow's claim is even more explosive given that the country is in the throes of a national debate about gun control, with gun rights advocates keen to insist that the founders put the second amendment in the Constitution primarily as a defense against government tyranny. It also follows reports on Sunday that General James Mattis, head of the United States Central Command, "is being told to vacate his office several months earlier than planned." Concerns over US troops being given orders to fire on American citizens in the event of mass gun confiscation first arose in 1995 when hundreds of Marines at 29 Palms, California were given a survey as part of an academic project by Navy Lieutenant Commander Ernest Guy Cunningham which asked the Marines if they would, "Fire upon U.S. citizens who refuse or resist confiscation of firearms banned by the United States government."

Obama Prepares to Community-Organize America

In his latest unprecedented move in American history, President Obama announced he is converting his campaign apparatus into a permanent in-your-face campaign aimed at furthering Obama's divisive, radical politics.
The new tax-exempt advocacy group, Organizing for Action, will "play an active role" in "mobilizing around and speaking out in support of important legislation" during Obama's second term, the president said last week.
In the same vein, in his second inaugural address yesterday, Obama bullied the opposition. Reinforcing his long-running "spread the wealth" theme, the president hectored successful people, declaring that "our country cannot succeed when a shrinking few do very well and a growing many barely make it."
Obama also seemed to signal in his mercifully brief oration that he's going to go all-out to make government bigger.
Americans, he said, "reject the belief that America must choose between caring for the generation that built this country and investing in the generation that will build its future."
Now, like a Third World caudillo, Obama will be able to pursue his policies from inside government and from outside through his OfA thug army.

Obama's Progressive Manifesto Leaves No Question About His Intentions

We expect inaugural addresses to contain more promises than policy and make some allowances for the grandiose rhetorical flourish. But while Obama's 2nd Inaugural Address tested the outer limits of eye-rolling, strawmen-incinerating bombast, it also served as a declaration of political war against the Constitution as a document limiting government power. And as for his legacy, we should now have no doubt:
Obama plans to lead to progressive left to total political victory.
This is obvious after President Obama's first speech of his second term. He will assault the ideological and institutional foundations of limited government and individual liberty. He will push government deeper into every aspect of American life. And he will construct an all-encompassing Leviathan that will endure long after he leaves office.
The first section of Obama's inaugural described an American historical trajectory pushed along by collective action. Immediately after some pablum about America's founding, Obama declared America's greatest victories have been collectivist enterprises. Yes, perhaps we once viewed our past as the result of individuals pursuing their dreams free of government interference, but Obama knows better. He explained to the American people that:
"Fidelity to our founding principles requires new responses to new challenges, that preserving our individual freedoms ultimately requires collective action."

The recent tragedy in Newtown, CT has shocked our country. Unfortunately, the media and liberal politicians are using this evil act to demonize the 2nd Amendment and law-abiding citizens. Draconian gun control is being called for to exploit this tragedy. It is yet another step in their ultimate goal of weakening the American citizenry and consolidating further power and control into the federal government.
THE THREATS
Vice President Biden's task force released recommendations that calls for many semi-automatic rifles and 30 round magazines to be banned.
Sen. Feinstein (D-CA) is introducing legislation that will affect up to 75% of all lawfully owned guns and 100% of all law-abiding gun owners. This bill could require amongst other things:
- current gun owners to register themselves as if pre-criminals
- registration of firearms and creation of federal tracking database
- force owners to pay an annual tax in order to keep their guns.
- ban the production and/or sale of many firearms and magazines
- require that firearms be surrendered to the government upon the owner's death and not be able to be transferred to living relatives, etc.
Mr. Obama has publicly stated that he will use Executive Orders to implement gun control if Congress should resist implementing severe gun control measures. This is an unconstitutional usurpation of authority and all about CONTROL.
History has demonstrated repeatedly - Gun registration is precursor to gun confiscation!!
A CALL TO ACTION
This meeting will bring together concerned, law-abiding gun owners to discuss:
- these gun control activities in Washington DC, and
- the ACTIONS we should and will take together as a free people to stop this legislation and power grab.
Now is the time to get actively involved, and draw a line in the sand. If we lose the 2nd amendment, there will be no limits to what can done to us.

The "Pennsylvania Open Workforce Initiative" is a compilation of five pieces of legislation that would end compulsory unionism in Pennsylvania. They are:
- House Bill 50 : umbrella right to work bill (would pertain to both public and private sector unions)
- House Bill 51 : eliminates fair share fees for school employees
- House Bill 52 : eliminates fair share fees for state government employees
- House Bill 53 : eliminates fair share fees for local government employees
- House Bill 54 : right to work solely for the private sector (similar to what Indiana recently passed)
What about additional policy changes that would restore the freedom to Pennsylvania workers, including eliminating a public employer's responsibility to collect union dues (Rep. Cutler's HB 1418 from last session). Hopefully, that will come from the Senate.

- February 15 - March 27, 2013 - Debt Ceiling: Sometime in this date range we are expected to reach the debt ceiling (Technically we have already hit the debt ceiling, but this is the date range when we will reach a point where the Treasury can no longer implement "extraordinary measures" to meet our spending obligations.
- February 28, 2013 - Sequestration: The "fiscal cliff" bill created a new manufactured crisis that will happen sometime at the end of February. This is when the sequestration can was kicked down the road.
- March 31, 2013 - Continuing Resolution: The current Continuing Resolution that the government is operating under expires on March 31. This means that they will have to pass a CR between now and then.
- April 15, 2013 - Budget Resolution: This is the date by law in which both Houses should have a budget resolution passed. We are already hearing that the President is late in submitting his budget, the House is reporting that they will not meet their deadline for a budget, and the Senate... well they haven't passed a budget in over 1,350 days.

You may know that the wonderful founder of the DC March for Life, Nellie Gray died at the age of 86 this past August. She had led the March for Life for 40 years. She is being succeeded by a board member, Jeanne Monahan. This March also marks the 40th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade.
The purpose of the e-mail is to advise you that our Federal Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick again will meet with the participants in this event who are from Dtistrict 8. Because of the crowd and the number of congressmen who tried to accommodate us in DC last year, he would like to have a separate room for Bucks County District 8. This should enable better organization. I know some of the churches who are going to the March but probably not all. Therefore you may get another e-mail as well.
If you are planning to go to the March and would like to meet with Rep. Fitzpatrick, please respond to this e-mail to advise and possibly your number. He is making himself available between 2 & 5 PM on the day of the March 1/25/13. I do not know the place yet.
Another reason for the e-mail is if you have a particular concern or question, and these should be directed toward pro-life, you may want to formulate that beforehand to help him in helping you. There are many pro-life bills that have been introduced but they will have to be re-introduced

600 Memorials for 55 Million Babies
Next Tuesday, January 22, 2013, the 40th anniversary of the infamous Roe v. Wade U.S. Supreme Court ruling which legalized abortion on demand, pro-life advocates across America are being urged to memorialize the 55 million pre-born babies who have been aborted since that ruling 40 years ago on that date.
When people want to express their sorrow for tragic deaths, they often bring symbols of their grief to the sites of the deaths, including candles, flowers and messages. When children are killed, those symbols often include stuffed animals and balloons, such as for the recent school massacre in Newtown. Pro-lifers can help commemorate the 55 million pre-born babies who were aborted before they could even take a breath.
RNC for Life is urging those who value the sanctity of life to remember those innocent babes by placing flowers, balloons and stuffed animals at the approximately 600 abortion facilities across America next Tuesday. We also encourage you to pray silently in front of the abortion facility after placing your memorial.
You don't have to spend much time at the abortuary and you don't have to spend much money on the symbols you place there. But these memorials - hopefully 600+ of them - will send a message to all who see them: Some of the 55 million innocents were killed HERE and we grieve for them.
We hope that these spontaneous memorials will be placed at every abortuary, accompanied by sweet reminders of unborn children and even messages to those innocent babies. We are confident that, in seeing these hundreds of memorials with thousands of participants, America will come to realize the magnitude of the horror that abortion is and has been for four decades. A flyer suitable to distribute is available here which will give you specific suggestions.
Please forward this to everyone you know who believes in the sanctity of Life. We must not let this infamous anniversary go by without memorializing these babes who have been murdered in the womb at the rate of about 3300 EVERY DAY!

The major political battles of 2013 are about to commence.
Last year, the Association successfully lobbied against the phony "school choice" bill, SB 1, and supported HB 1330--the budget neutral expansion of the EITC scholarship fund . A version of HB 1330 was attached to another bill, approved by the Assembly, and signed into law by Governor Tom Corbett.
In addition, very early on, the Association backed the PA Voter ID bill--which also passed the Assembly and was signed into law.
Finally, the Association successfully lobbied the respective Governors of NJ and PA, Chris Christie and Tom Corbett, against establishing state health insurance exchanges--a fundamental requirement of ObamaCare.
This year, the Association will focus its limited funding, energy, and resources on a handful state and federal issues.
In this letter, we will emphasize important state battles shaping up in Harrisburg, Trenton, and Dover.
Harrisburg
Pennsylvania Right to Work is topic #1 as State Rep. Darryl Metcalfe and other legislators announce the reintroduction of a Right to Work bill during today's 11 AM Harrisburg Presser (details below).
Next on the agenda is State Rep. Matt Baker's Opt Out of ObamaCare legislation. This bill cleared the House Health Committee last session--only to whither on the vine. We must pass the bill in this session and persuade Gov. Corbett to sign it into law.
Also, we have been working behind the scenes with State Reps. Stephen Barrar and Darryl Metcalfe to enact legislation allowing any registered Pennsylvania voter to poll watch at any precinct within the boundaries of the Commonwealth.
Trenton
In New Jersey, we will press Governor Christie to veto proposed bills seeking to increase the minimum wage and restrict 2nd Amendment Rights.
Dover
In Delaware, we will join efforts to stop the numerous gun control bills that have been introduced in the state legislature.
In the coming days, there will be plenty of opportunities for us to demonstrate our commitment to conservative values.

Forty years ago today, Roe v. Wade became the law of land--overturning some form of legal protection for unborn children in every state in the union.
Since that tragic day, it is estimated that well over 50 million lives have been ended through the controversial practice of abortion.
Whether you are pro-life or pro-choice, as a conservative, you must
recognize the disastrous legal consequences of the US Supreme Court's decision which made a mockery of states rights.
We can all agree that the Warren Court's decision demonstrated a virulent contempt for the US Constitution and its 10th Amendment.
We can also agree that taxpayer funded abortion is a grave moral affront to those among us who believe that the sanctity of innocent human life is paramount.

- In 2009, Hagel signed a letter urging President Obama to begin direct negotiations with Hamas, a U.S. designated terrorist group committed in its Charter to the destruction of Israel and the murder of Jews, a position President Obama has not taken up.
- In 2008, Hagel was "solely responsible" for blocking an Iran sanctions bill (Seth Colter Walls, 'Dems Blame Senate GOP For Blocking Iran Sanctions Bill,' Huffington Post, March 10, 2008).
- In a 2006 interview with former Middle East negotiator Aaron David Miller, Hagel said that "the Jewish lobby intimidates a lot of people" on Capitol Hill ('Hagel named to intelligence board,' Jewish Telegraphic Agency, October 29, 2009).
- In August 2006, Hagel was one of only 12 Senators who refused to formally call upon the European Union to designate as a terrorist organization Hizballah, which in 1983 murdered 242 U.S. marines in Beirut ('NJDC Criticizes Senators for Refusing to Call on EU to add Hezbollah to List of Terrorist Organizations,' National Jewish Democratic Council press release, August 7, 2006).
- In July 2006, at the outbreak of the Lebanon war, Hagel argued against giving Israel the time to break Hizballah, urging instead an immediate ceasefire ('Key Republican breaks with Bush on Mideast,' CNN.com, July 31, 2006).
- December 2005: Hagel was one of only 27 senators who refused to sign a letter to President Bush urging him to pressure the Palestinian Authority (PA) to ban terrorist groups from participating in Palestinian legislative elections.
- June 2004, Hagel refused to sign a letter urging President Bush to highlight Iran's nuclear program at the G-8 summit and was one of only two senators in to vote against renewal of the Libya-Iran sanctions act.
- November 2001: Hagel was one of only 11 senators who refused to sign a letter urging President Bush not to meet with the late Yasser Arafat until his forces ended the violence against Israel.
- In July 2001, Hagel was one of only two senators to vote against extending the original Iranian sanctions bill.
- October 2000: Hagel was one of only four senators who refused to sign a Senate letter in support of Israel.

A Plan to Stop Agenda 21
It's time to get very serious about stopping the forces of tyranny. There is no tomorrow. That's why today I am preparing a plan for the strongest action ever taken to stop Agenda 21. Across the nation, individuals and local activists have been working to stop the ravages of Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development. And we have won some astounding victories. We've made Agenda 21 a major issue. But we are vastly outgunned by the Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that are pushing this agenda from the UN all the way to your city council. They are flooding state capitals with lobbyists, money, and a flood of issue documents. They are rich, powerful and well organized. We aren't. We are a rag tag band of dedicated activists with passion for the cause of freedom and little else. That has got to change. Our activists need the tools necessary to win. "Precedent" The key word in opposing a Con Con By Tom DeWeese:
The call for a new Constitutional Convention (Con Con), particularly from Conservative circles, is starting to grow at an alarming rate. Several Conservative organizations, particularly the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) and the Goldwater Institute (among others) are telling Conservative state legislators that they can call for a Con Con and control the subject and the outcome of such an event.
That is simply not true. The reason: "Precedent." There has been only one Con Con in U.S. history. That was in 1787. Delegates to this gathering (not originally planned as a Con Con) were given specific instructions by their states and a very strongly worded resolution by Congress limiting the meeting to the "sole and express purpose of revising the Articles of Confederation." Those instructions were completely ignored. As soon as the delegates arrived in Philadelphia, the doors were closed and the meeting was kept secret until finally they opened the doors to announce a complete new Constitution. That is a Precedent!
Second, the Articles of Confederation specifically called for 100% support from the states before any changes could be made to it. Obviously a new Constitution qualifies as a change! But ratification of the new Constitution operated under the yet un-ratified Article V of the new Constitution, which called for a vote of approval of just three fourths of the states. That is a Precedent!
Further, there is nothing in Article V to give instructions on how to organize a Con Con after the required number of states call for it and Congress agrees to comply. There is nothing to tell us who the delegates should be, where they should come from, what their qualifications should be, or what rules they need to follow. The fact is, once Congress calls for the Con Con, and the delegates are chosen, that Con Con body becomes the most powerful force in the nation. Congress has no control over what they do, or how they do it. And the Precedents say they can do anything, including writing a new Constitution -- and that new Constitution can be voted into power anyway the delegates decide.
Those pushing for a new Constitutional Convention are deluded if they think they can dictate what is to be debated. Many proponents of the Con Con are smugly telling legislators in the many states that there is no danger of bad things happening because the states must ratify what they do. The Precedent says otherwise. It says the delegates can decide how a new constitution is ratified. Moreover, may I point out that just last year, 75% of the American people opposed Obamacare, but Congress passed it anyway. Do we really want to put our precious Constitution on an operating table so those who think like Obama, Reid, and Pelosi can operate on it to their own satisfaction? That is exactly what we are doing if we allow a Con Con to be called.

1. Arrogance and Overreach
Barack Obama was able to get Obamacare passed largely because he had a group of Democrats in Congress who were not running for re-election and thus had no fear of the voters. They overreached and the Democrats were swept out to the minority in the House of Representatives. In fact, the voters in 2010 wrecked devastating losses on the Democrats nationwide.
When politicians, regardless of party, are no longer accountable to the voters they tend to do extremely arrogant things, they tend to overreach badly, and they tend to collapse.
Barack Obama is, going into his second term, already one of the most arrogant politicians in America. Remember how his team told the public unconvincingly that Barack Obama was "among the most sophisticated consumers of intelligence on the planet'? 2. Where I Am on the Debt Ceiling Fight
We should fight on the debt ceiling, but we are not going to. Frankly, I think Pat Toomey's push for a "full faith and credit" act has hurt us. It has provided the Democrats an opportunity to spin the media that even the Republicans acknowledge we'll default if we don't raise the ceiling, which is why Toomey is doing that.
It was too clever by half.
Likewise, you have scores of conservative economists saying we must raise it. The chorus is too loud for the GOP in Congress to ignore and it will be just a small group wanting to hold ground. We will look foolish and irrational when we all pretty much admit it is going to get raised anyway.
That said, if Republicans will not pick a fight on the debt ceiling (though they should attach a number to it), they absolutely must fight on the continuing resolution. 3. Forty Years in the Wilderness
What more may we say about this day in history than that which has already been said? How can we continue to express our sorrow, our sense of loss, and of injustice? And more to the point, should we even bother?
Another Presidential election has come and gone, and the most pro-abortion President in history has been re-elected. Just yesterday a man so enamored of abortion he was unwilling to vote for punishing doctors who failed to provide medical care for children who survived abortion placed his hand on a Bible and took the oath of office for a second time, after having ridden to victory at least in part on his Republican opponent's unwillingness to even engage him on this issue for fear of backlash. Now our political betters within the beltway and without tell us that it's time to drop this issue, concede the ground and move on. 4. Brits Ban Guns at America's Largest Gun Show
The Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show announced last week that America's largest outdoor sports show will be banning "certain products" from the show. This week it is becoming clear that they might be regretting that announcement.

RAND PAUL: OBAMA IN GUNS-TO-JIHADISTS COVER-UP?
Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., raised questions during a radio interview today about whether the Obama administration was smuggling guns to jihadist rebels in a possible "international Fast and Furious" that the White House has tried to cover up.
Speaking on "Aaron Klein Investigative Radio" on New York's WABC Radio, Paul said the guns scheme could help explain the reason for the coordinated attacks against the U.S. special mission and CIA annex in Benghazi last September.

President Barack Obama's second-term inauguration was scaled back with organizers lowering their turnout estimate the day before the event from less than half the 1.8 million people that gathered four years ago to between 500,000-700,000. But that didn't mean there were short lines or a lack of crowds. Chilly D.C. streets saw a dash of everything in the crowds that gathered, and businesses in the area welcomed the crowds.

Raised on Hatred

EGYPT'S newly elected president, Mohamed Morsi, was caught on tape about three years ago urging his followers to "nurse our children and our grandchildren on hatred" for Jews and Zionists. Not long after, the then-leader of the Muslim Brotherhood described Zionists as "bloodsuckers who attack the Palestinians," "warmongers" and "descendants of apes and pigs."
These remarks are disgusting, but they are neither shocking nor new. As a child growing up in a Muslim family, I constantly heard my mother, other relatives and neighbors wish for the death of Jews, who were considered our darkest enemy. Our religious tutors and the preachers in our mosques set aside extra time to pray for the destruction of Jews.
For far too long the pervasive Middle Eastern qualification of Jews as murderers and bloodsuckers was dismissed in the West as extreme views expressed by radical fringe groups. But they are not. In truth, those Muslims who think of Jews as friends and fellow human beings with a right to their own state are a minority, and are under intense pressure to change their minds.
All over the Middle East, hatred for Jews and Zionists can be found in textbooks for children as young as three, complete with illustrations of Jews with monster-like qualities. Mainstream educational television programs are consistently anti-Semitic. As I write this the sun has set, the shadows crawling up and down the grid of America's first truly planned city. There was a time when it was thought that the Potomac extended across the continent and the city of government would lie at the opening of an interstate aquatic highway. That was not to be. And like so many other dreams of government, the Washington City Canal has seen better days. Washington D.C. is America, as many of the men and women who work in government envision it. It is a place of great wealth and great poverty. Incomes continue to rise for those in government. D.C. and its bedroom communities hold some of the greatest reserves of wealth in the the country, but its poverty level hovers just below 20 percent. And nearly a third of the children of the capital of our government live in poverty. Gun control is very much on the minds of the government elite these days, and it should be, working in a city with a higher murder rate than Mexico City. African-Americans only make up half the population of D.C. but black males account for 80 percent of its homicide victims. The black murder rate in D.C. is 37.7 per 100,000 people. The white murder rate however is less than most of the rest of the country. Guns are used in the vast majority of these killings. 1 in 8 households in D.C. struggle with hunger. D.C. public schools have a 56 percent graduation rate for students in general and 41 percent for black males. This is what the city that runs the country that runs the world looks like. This is where the great planners make their plans while just out of sight lies another great urban failure where plans go to die. Washington D.C. cannot fix itself. The national government based out of the city certainly cannot fix the nation. There are two Washingtons here side by side. One is the Washington of the professional government technocracy; the imperial Washington of ceremony and ritual, where massive numbers of staffers and bureaucrats pack in to attend to the great grid of the nation. The other Washington is no different than Chicago or Detroit, except that its only dying industry is the great machine of government.

I know, I know, I know... This is a tired exercise, but it has to be done.
Imagine an alternate universe where it was George W. Bush, or any Republican, sworn in for a second term yesterday -- but with Obama's economic record. Imagine if after spending nearly a trillion dollars on tax cuts (instead of stimulus), Bush stood before the nation and gave an ideological address that focused almost solely on divisive social issues and never once mentioned his struggling economy.

Remember those I'm-the-NRA ads of a few years back, where people who definitely did not have two heads (a housewife, a deputy sheriff) told why they belong to the dreaded gun lobby - a welcome antidote to anti-gun owner hysteria.
Well, I'm not the NRA. I don't own a gun. I've never hunted. I don't anticipate Armageddon just around the corner.

I don't believe in a right to keep and bear howitzers and Thompson submachine guns. But I'm just as committed to maintaining Second Amendment freedoms as NRA honchos David Keene and Wayne LaPierre, and every bit as contemptuous of politicians who are undermining this fundamental right.
The latest excuse for the establishment to hate the National Rifle Association is a 35-second spot the group aired calling President Obama "an elitist hypocrite" (must they state the obvious?) for opposing its proposal to put cops in schools.
"The NRA has struck an incredible new low in public discourse and the ad must be removed immediately," wailed the well-named Michael Nutter, mayor of Philadelphia. Former White House flack Robert Gibbs called it "disgusting on so many levels." His successor, Jay Carney, said it was "repugnant and cowardly."
"The NRA's sneering references to the president's family are beyond the pale," yapped conservative poodle David Frum, while the former Republican Governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie (still the governor; no longer a Republican), said that noting Obama's kids have armed protection and yours don't, "I think is reprehensible" - like giving a big, ole bear-hug to a president who's shredding the Constitution, a week before Election Day?
Disgusting? Reprehensible? Beyond the pale? A gang that's using the bullet-riddled bodies of 20 Connecticut school kids to push its panacea for violent crime is whining about the NRA exploiting children. Read more:

Obama Opens a New Term with a Loud 'Bang'

The Washington Times website. Leave it to Barack Obama to come into his inaugural weekend with a bang, and not just on guns. He's made it clear that he intends more spending, more regulation, more radical appointees and less national defense in his second term. The word "overreach" is going to be one of the most overused words in the English language. SCOTUS Takes Major Constitutional Case on Treaty Powers

On Friday, the Supreme Court agreed to hear arguments in Bond v. United States, a case raising serious issues of federal power under the U.S. Constitution.
This case is about a woman who discovered her husband was having an affair, then attempted to poison the mistress at her home. The mistress survived, but while local prosecutors could charge the woman with attempted murder, battery, trespass, and other state crimes, the U.S. Attorney for that district stepped in and charged this woman with using chemical weapons in violation of a treaty banning their use that the United States signed onto and Congress implemented.

Bobby Jindal Seeks Rich State Status With Income Tax Phaseout

Nine states survive perfectly well with no state income tax at all. These include large states such as Texas and Florida, medium size states such as Tennessee and Washington, and smaller states, in terms of population, such as New Hampshire, Nevada, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Alaska. Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal is now proposing to make his state the 10th in America with no state income tax, phasing out both personal and corporate state income taxes.
Experience proves the wisdom of that idea. Art Laffer, Steve Moore, and Jonathon Williams summarize the data in the 2010 volume of Rich States, Poor States, published annually by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). Economic growth in the 9 states without income taxes skyrocketed from 1998 to 2008 almost 50% faster than in the 9 states with the highest top personal income tax rates. Job growth rocketed ahead more than twice as fast in the 9 no income tax states as compared to the 9 top income tax rate states.

Tuesday, January 22, 2013 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer "Obama The Liberated Liberal" That's how one left-wing British newspaper described Barack Obama after yesterday's inaugural address. Obama hasn't stopped campaigning after his narrow popular vote victory in November. His second inaugural address was more of the same. It was not much different than his standard stump speech, just delivered on a grander stage. But don't take my word for it. The Washingon Post's David Ignatius panned the speech as "flat, partisan and surprisingly pedestrian." Unbelievably, just days after a leak that his speech would be about uniting America, we got a speech that was clearly designed to divide us and to condemn conservatives to the fringes of American political life. Twisting Self-Evident Truths Obama's speech relied heavily on the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." This is the fundamental idea of America's founding. It is a profoundly moral idea. Abraham Lincoln relied on that paragraph to make the moral case that one man cannot own another. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., built his entire life's work on that paragraph, declaring it America's "promissory note" and arguing that its promise was still incomplete. He begged for an America where the color of a man's skin was irrelevant. The only thing that should matter was the content of a person's character. King began his quest for civil rights for black Americans at a time when by every measure the injustice of racism was obvious for all to see -- separate water fountains, unequal schools, etc. Barack Hussein Obama's election is a testament to how far we have come. How jarring and strange it was to hear Obama cite this same central statement of our Founders, used by Lincoln and King to overcome slavery and racism, to redefine the institution of marriage. Obama said:
"Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law, for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal, as well."
Barack Obama made history by being the first president to promote homosexual rights twice in an inaugural address. Does he seriously believe that in a nation that is wrestling with moral decay, runaway debt, broken families and a coarsening culture, men "marrying" men is the issue of our age? In vast segments of America, minority children are suffering because they have no fathers. The young mothers trying to raise them alone have little prospects. Their streets are unsafe. Their schools are controlled by special interest unions more interested in their own benefits than in academic results. But for Obama, sanctifying sodomy is the challenge of our time. Still Waging Class Warfare The inaugural message was also heavy on the class warfare that Obama seems to instinctively gravitate towards. He complained that the "shrinking few do very well and a growing many barely make it." Obama said he believed that "America's prosperity must rest upon the broad shoulders of a rising middle class." But his policies of higher taxes, more regulations and bigger government have destroyed the middle class. And more government spending isn't the solution. We are spending the equivalent of $60,000 a year per poor person on welfare programs. A substantial portion of that money ends up in the coffers of left-wing pressure groups or in the pockets of federal bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. A lot of families in our inner cities are successful. They are almost always two-parent families. Obama could have declared war on the gangs making their streets unsafe. He could have taken on the teachers' unions that are failing our children. He could have challenged the failure of young men and women to form families. But he did not. No, in Barack and Michelle's world, it's not the gangs, irresponsible unions or the breakdown of the family that are responsible for the plight of our inner cities or those struggling in poverty. It's the "shrinking few who are doing well," who still aren't paying their fair, who are to blame. The War On Carbon The signal was clear. Barack Obama is going back to the idea that manmade activity helps to determine what the climate is, even though science tells us that the climate regularly changes in cycles. But Obama sees another opportunity to grow the government and transfer wealth, to punish the successful while he frightens people into believing that the earth is doomed unless they follow big government, socialist policies. Again, don't take my word for it. Here's how the New York Times described Mr. Obama's failed cap and trade tax scheme back in 2009: "Since companies would pass their costs on to customers, Mr. Obama would have the government use most of the revenues for relief to families to offset higher utility bills and related expenses." "Most of the revenues" amounted to more than 90% of what the government expected to raise from new carbon taxes. Clearly, cap and trade was nothing more than a vehicle for redistributing wealth. Democrats, already bogged down at the time with Obamacare and facing strong conservative opposition, abandoned cap and trade then. Obama intends to make it a centerpiece of his second term agenda now. The Power Of Our Potential Listening to the most pro-abortion president in history quote the Declaration's self-evident, unalienable rights -- the first of which is LIFE -- was hard to stomach. And, of course, today is the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Roe v. Wade is based on the same misguided philosophy as Dred Scott -- that some humans are not "people" with rights we are bound to respect. There is considerable irony that the first president of color, a supposed constitutional scholar no less, refuses to see this. But I have confidence that the day is coming when every child will be welcomed into the world and protected under the law. The abortion-rights movement has spent the last 40 years trying to "normalize" abortion, and it is only now acknowledging the failure of those efforts. Alarmists Change the Data to Support Global Warming Claims

Proponents of the anthropogenic global warming theory rely on global temperature data over a period of centuries that purport to be accurate to within a tiny fraction of one degree. Common sense warns us to be skeptical of such spurious certainty. But the truth is much worse: climate alarmists have systematically fudged the historical record by changing past temperature data to make it look as though the earth is warming, consistent with their theory.
We have written about this before; the latest comes from Watts Up With That, the world's most widely read web site on climate science:
I ran a post yesterday, showing how the latest version of GISSTEMP had changed from using Hadley/Reynolds to ERSST for ocean temperatures, with the result that about 0.03C had been added to recent warming.
However, this is not the only change they have made to the historical temperature record in recent years. Climate4You, fortunately, archived the GISS data in May 2008. Comparing this dataset with today's version, we can see that about 0.10C of warming, or more, has been added to temperatures in the last decade, compared to data up to about 1950.
GISS is NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, which was commandeered some years ago by global warming hysteric James Hansen. Its data are widely relied on to support claims of unprecedented warming. But GISS has been playing games with the historical record, changing previously reported temperatures going all the way back to the 19th century. They don't acknowledge doing this, they just change the data retroactively. This chart shows the changes that have been made since 2008. Generally, GISS lowered the temperatures from the 1890s until approximately the 1960, and then increased the previously-reported temperatures starting in the 1970s. Their purpose, obviously, is to manufacture an apparent warming trend above and beyond the temperatures that were actually reported at the time:
Other changes in the data had been made prior to 2008, as well; these changes also had the effect of magnifying alleged warming. Shockingly, one-quarter of the global warming that GISS alleges has taken place during the 20th century is due to these falsifications-let's be polite and call them revisions-to the data.
So any time anyone wants to debate global warming, the first point to be made is that the data created by GISS and similar organizations are corrupt and unreliable.

The campaign to destroy Rep. Bachmann

Following up on John's post on Michele Bachmann, I want to draw attention to Caroline Glick's post "The left's new campaign to destroy a friend of Israel's." Like most of Caroline's columns and posts, it is long and worthy of your attention in its entirety.
Having heard Michele testify in person many times to her deep personal attachment to and support of Israel - she has appeared to speak more times than any other person before our small local chapter of the Republican Jewish Coalition - I felt this post hit home. (I posted my report on one of Michele's appearances before our chapter here this past July.) As we join her in the middle of things, Caroline writes:
One of the voices that Obama's machine has spent millions of dollars trying to silence is that of Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann.
As a member of the House Select Committee on Intelligence, and as a contender in the Republican presidential primaries, Bachmann has been one of Israel's most passionate and articulate defenders and one of Obama's most effective critics on everything from federal spending to Obama's abandonment of the US-Israel alliance to his opening of the US federal government and intelligence apparatuses to members of the Muslim Brotherhood - that is to members of a movement dedicated to the destruction of the American way of life.
For her efforts, Rep. Bachmann has been the target of repeated media smear campaigns, often joined by skittish Republicans like John McCain who failed to recognize the danger of the Muslim Brotherhood's rise in Libya and Egypt, and failed to understand the danger that the penetration of the US federal government by Muslim Brotherhood members constitutes to US national security.
I have had the privilege and pleasure of meeting with Rep. Bachmann on several occasions over the years. She is one of the most intelligent women I know. And her grasp of the nature and importance of the US-Israel alliance is extraordinary. So too, her understanding of the challenges to US national security is clear, educated and sophisticated.
Watch for instance these speeches that she has delivered in recent months.
Here Caroline pauses to insert videos of Michele speaking. Then she resumes:
In the past, every time that I have written about Cong. Bachmann, I have been bombarded with comments from readers who say that they cannot believe I can support her, since they claim, she is such an extremist. But Cong. Bachmann is not an extremist at all.
What she is is a victim of a very successful smear campaign undertaken by people who recognize her talent, conviction, intelligence and effectiveness. They set out to destroy and marginalize her, just as they set out to destroy and marginalize Mitt Romney and West and Walsh and many others, because they perceive these leaders as a threat to their agendas.
Today Cong. Bachmann is the target of a new leftist smear campaign, organized by the far Left People for the American Way. The campaign involves a petition that has reportedly been signed already by 178,000 people demanding that House Speaker John Boehner expel Rep. Bachmann from the House Select Committee on Intelligence.

Freedom in the world 2013

In what Middle East country do Arabs enjoy the greatest civil liberties? That is a question worthy of the investigation of the Middle East correspondents of the New York Times, the Washington Post and others who bring us the news from the region.
Freedom House conducts a widely respected annual survey that goes a long way toward answering the question. It has just released its 2013 report, explaining its methodology, discussing trends and providing its current rankings. It has also posted a good summary. The report notes some positive trends in the Middle East, yet Israel remains the region's sole country ranked Free in Freedom House's evaluation.
Today Israelis go to the polls to elect their government. Israel's Arab citizens will vote and Arabs will be elected to Israel's Knesset. Given the neighborhood, not to mention other factors, it's a remarkable story.
Searching Google News, I find the only substantial media story on the new Freedom House report appears in the Jerusalem Post (which in fact alerted me to the new report). Surely some day an assignment editor at one of the mainstream media outlets will get around to covering the annual Freedom House report, or having a reporter take a serious look at the answer to the question at the top of this post.

Obama's Inaugural: What Was Missing?

Only the issue of most concern to Americans: the economy and jobs. Liberals are swooning over President Obama's second inaugural speech, with some going so far to call it Lincolnesque. But when Lincoln was inaugurated after his 1864 re-election, he spoke exclusively about the great issues that were then before the country: the Civil War and the eradication of slavery from the Democratic South. Today, in contrast, Obama acted as though the nation's principal issues-high unemployment, almost non-existent economic growth and low labor force participation-barely existed. Byron York notes the incongruity:
Why did President Obama barely mention unemployment in his inaugural address? After all, today's jobless rate, 7.8 percent, is precisely what it was when Obama first took the oath of office in January 2009. It's even worse; if you combine the unemployed with those who are working part-time but want a full-time job, and those who have been too discouraged to look recently, the figure is 14.4 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
That is a desperately bad situation. People know it. In poll after poll, Americans list jobs and the economy as the issue most important to the country. They've been saying the same thing every day Barack Obama has been in office.
And yet, in his inaugural address the president said essentially nothing about the nation's most pressing problem. Why?
Because he didn't have to. His base supporters - loyalists and activists who would declare war on a Republican president with a similar unemployment rate - continue to give Obama a pass on joblessness. There are other issues, like immigration reform, climate change and raising taxes, that excite them more than economic recovery.
That is strange, but true. The average American cares little about gay marriage and free contraceptives. He sees America declining as an economic power; if not out of work himself, he has friends and relatives who are, and he worries over his own children's shrinking prospects in life. An air of hopelessness has settled over America as the Democrats ask us to accept a lousy economy as the new normal-exactly as happened in the late 1970s, with the difference that Jimmy Carter didn't win a second term.
President Obama didn't find it necessary to talk about joblessness because he wasn't speaking to all Americans, he was addressing his own core supporters. And they, because they are students, or public employees, or rich liberals, or lobbyists who feed off the public sector, etc., don't care much about the economy or the employment picture. The fact that President Obama found it unnecessary to address the issue that most Americans rate as the most vital facing the country is just one more indication of how badly Obama has polarized America as he begins his second term.

Obama's Second Inaugural Address, Translated
Members of Congress-who are about to debate raising the debt ceiling tomorrow-should have paid attention yesterday. The President was very clear that he sees no urgency about reducing the debt and cutting the deficit. In fact, in his second inaugural address, President Barack Obama was honest about his intentions to grow government in order to remake our country along his progressive vision. To sell his agenda, the President borrowed imagery and terminology from America's first principles. But he twisted the American founding idea of "We the people" into the liberal "It takes a village." His rhetoric on the issues only thinly disguised his true meaning. Let's translate some of his key points. Obama on "we the people": "For the American people can no more meet the demands of today's world by acting alone than American soldiers could have met the forces of fascism or communism with muskets and militias. No single person can train all the math and science teachers we'll need to equip our children for the future. Or build the roads and networks and research labs that will bring new jobs and businesses to our shores." Translation: In case you didn't hear me the first time, you didn't build that. He may have surrounded these words with lip service to the Constitution and America's promise of freedom, but the President revisited his core message here: It takes a taxpayer-subsidized village to build things. According to his philosophy, entrepreneurs don't create jobs-the government does. Obama on the fiscal crisis: "We, the people, understand that our country cannot succeed when a shrinking few do very well and a growing many barely make it....We must make the hard choices to reduce the cost of health care and the size of our deficit. But we reject the belief that America must choose between caring for the generation that built this country and investing in the generation that will build its future." Translation: I will continue to push for more tax increases instead of reforming Medicare and Social Security. On this point, the President followed up his promise that he will not negotiate on the debt ceiling by digging in his heels on taxes and entitlement programs. The "hard choices" he refers to on health care and the deficit are more tax increases-because he "reject[s] the belief" that entitlements must be reformed if they are going to stay around for the next generation. The debt limit showdown continues this week: The House will vote tomorrow on a plan that would extend the debt ceiling for three months while forcing Congress-specifically, the Senate-to pass a budget. If they do not pass a budget by April 15 under this plan, Members of Congress would stop getting paid. If House Republicans so much as blink, the President and his allies will steamroll them. Obama on green energy: "We will respond to the threat of climate change, knowing that the failure to do so would betray our children and future generations. Some may still deny the overwhelming judgment of science, but none can avoid the devastating impact of raging fires, and crippling drought, and more powerful storms. The path towards sustainable energy sources will be long and sometimes difficult. But American cannot resist this transition." Translation: I will continue to increase regulations on the energy sources we use and throw taxpayer money into "green" energy companies. Despite the ever-growing Green Graveyard of companies like Solyndra that took taxpayer money only to go bankrupt, the President clings to this unworkable and expensive policy. And his linking of climate change to "more powerful storms" points to a renewed push for policies like a carbon tax to punish people for using energy-a policy that would harm the economy and produce no tangible environmental benefits. Obama on foreign policy: "We, the people, still believe that enduring security and lasting peace do not require perpetual war....We will show the courage to try and resolve our differences with other nations peacefully. Not because we are naive about the dangers we face, but because engagement can more durably lift suspicion and fear." Translation: The terrorists are on the run, and I still think we can negotiate with nuclear bullies like Iran. Even as Obama pulls troops from Iraq and Afghanistan, the hostage crisis in Algeria shows that al-Qaeda is alive and well. Though Iran continues to rebuff international inspectors and basically do whatever it wants, Obama seems perpetually optimistic that more talks with this hostile regime-and others like it-could make them change their behavior. The President said yesterday that "fidelity to our founding principles requires new responses to new challenges." Though the plans he laid out are not new, they definitely require a response if we are to preserve the founding principles we cherish, including our individual right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Congress has been warned, and by the President no less, that he is in no mood to compromise. If they give in, a liberal agenda like we've never known before will be implemented, while needed reforms to our entitlement programs will not take place. Holding the line is more important now than ever.
