You may be sick of hearing about him again, but Warren Buffett did huge damage serving as Obama's useful fool last year.
Dupes comprise a long, dubious tradition in American history. Over 200 years ago, George Washington warned the nation about "dupes" in his historic Farewell Address. Such warnings would echo from the founding of the republic through the Cold War. During the Cold War, "dupe," like the associated word, "useful idiot" - attributed to Vladimir Lenin - became an everyday term. Dupes were legion during the Cold War, a unique breed of (largely) left-leaning Americans who, unwittingly, allowed or enabled themselves to be deceived or misled by communist propagandists. Communists were natural liars, and liberals/progressives were their primary suckers.
Obamacare Amendment Forbids Gun and Ammo Registration
Good news -- it has become known that hidden deep within the massive 2800-page bill called Obamacare there is a Senate Amendment protecting the right to keep and bear arms.
It seems that in their haste to cram socialized medicine down the throats of the American people, then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Barack Obama overlooked Senate amendment 3276, Sec. 2716, part c.
According to reports, that amendment says the government cannot use doctors to collect "any information relating to the lawful ownership or possession of a firearm or ammunition."
CNN is calling it "a gift to the nation's powerful gun lobby."
And according to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), that's exactly right. He says he added the provision in order to keep the NRA from getting involved in the legislative fight over Obamacare, which was so ubiquitous in 2010.
NAPOLITANO: The right to shoot tyrants, not deer The Second Amendment is the guarantee of freedom By Andrew P. Napolitano | Thursday, January 10, 2013
The right of the people to keep and bear arms is an extension of the natural right to self-defense and a hallmark of personal sovereignty. It is specifically insulated from governmental interference by the Constitution and has historically been the linchpin of resistance to tyranny. Yet the progressives in both political parties stand ready to use the coercive power of the government to interfere with the exercise of that right by law-abiding persons because of the gross abuse of that right by some crazies in our midst.
When Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence that we are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights, he was marrying the nation at its birth to the ancient principles of the natural law that have animated the Judeo-Christian tradition in the West. Those principles have operated as a brake on all governments that recognize them by enunciating the concept of natural rights.
As we have been created in the image and likeness of God the Father, we are perfectly free just as He is. Thus, the natural law teaches that our freedoms are pre-political and come from our humanity and not from the government.
WHETHER YOU ARE A GUN OWNER OR NOT, YOU MUST READ THE FOLLOWING:
The recent tragedy in Newtown, CT has shocked our country and left us all with an emptiness in our hearts. The media and liberal politicians are using this act of evil to demonize the 2nd Amendment and all of those that support it. The politicians and media that are now calling for landmark gun control do so not out of genuine concern for safety, but rather to exploit a tragedy for their own self-serving agenda. It is yet another step in their ultimate goal of weakening the American citizenry and consolidating power into the federal government. Their actions are disingenuous in the process of developing meaningful solutions so that events such as Newtown, CT are never repeated.
It is reported that Sen. Feinstein (D-CA) will introduce a bill on January 22 that will affect up to 75% of all currently owned guns. This bill could require current gun owners to register their guns into a new national database and then force owners to pay an annual tax in order to keep their guns. In addition, the bill would ban the production and/or sale of many firearms and require that they be surrendered to the government upon the owner's death and not be able to be transferred to living relatives, etc. Gun registration has historically been a precursor to gun confiscation. We need not even consider past totalitarian regimes to confirm this; consider San Francisco, NYC, Australia and the UK where gun ownership is essentially banned. Basically overnight, millions of law-abiding, tax-paying, U.S. citizens would be forced to either obey an illegal law or be deemed a criminal.
Even if you are not a gun owner, you can see how such far reaching legislation is in violation of the Constitution and would give the government unprecedented power making us all subjects rather than citizens. Further,
President Obama is threatening to circumvent Congress and use Executive Orders to pass legislation!!!
Please contact your representatives and tell them to vote "No" on Sen. Feinstein's Bill. Here is a list of officials and their phone numbers and corresponding websites that you can cut and paste in your browser:
In addition, here is some information that may prove helpful in your contact with them:
According to the FBI in areas where right to carry have been implemented gun crimes have been reduced and the converse is also a fact. A prime example of the decrease after the right to carry is Florida, Texas and Michigan; After the handgun ban Chicago saw an increase in handgun murders and DC saw an increase in murder rate after the handgun ban.
Dr. Gary Kleck, a criminologist at Florida State University, estimated that approximately 2.5 million people used their gun in self-defense or to prevent crime each year, often by merely displaying a weapon. The incidents that Kleck studied generally did not involve the firing of the gun and he estimates that as many as 1.9 million of those instances involved a handgun. The National Rifle Association regularly reprints locally-published stories of ordinary citizens whose lives were saved by their guns.
In the international scene, the homicide rate in England and Wales has averaged 52% higher since the outset of the 1968 gun control law and 15% higher since the outset of the 1997 handgun ban. In Australia, five years after the gun ban assault rose 49.2 percent, robbery rose 6.2 percent rape increased 29.9 percent and overall Australia's violent crime rose 42.2 percent. At the same time, U.S. violent crime decreased 31.8 percent: rape dropped 19.2 percent; robbery decreased 33.2 percent; aggravated assault dropped 32.2 percent.
Schools(like the Friend's school where President Obama's children attend, in addition to the Secret Service), celebrities, politicians and other wealthy are protected by armed guards and are not attacked. Essentially the one percenters are the ones who can afford this protection.
In Israel, teachers are armed and there are no school shootings.

U.S. Senator Pat Toomey is proud of our men and women in uniform currently serving to protect the United States. He understands how important it is that we continue to provide quality medical care and other benefits to all veterans, both those who served decades ago and those just returning from fighting in the war against terrorism.
Since joining the Senate, Sen. Toomey has worked to help our veterans obtain the services and benefits they rightfully deserve. He also recognizes the need to address administrative problems at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and will work with all stakeholders to help ensure that veterans receive first-rate service.
During the last Congress, Sen. Toomey supported several proposals that address these issues. Sen. Toomey voted in favor of the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2012 (H.R. 2055), which provided $128 billion for the VA for fiscal year 2012 - a 6 percent increase from fiscal year 2011 levels.
With the unemployment rate for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans at more than 12 percent, we must ensure that veterans coming home from the battlefield will return to employment and new opportunities. Sen. Toomey voted in support of the 3 Percent Withholding Repeal and Job Creation Act (H.R. 674) that created a tax credit for employers who hire unemployed veterans. The bill also provides $1,473 a month for one year to cover college or vocational school tuition for unemployed veterans.
Sen. Toomey introduced a bill (S. 3316) to create a one-year pilot program to help veterans find jobs based on their military experience. The pilot job search program, which would be conducted at the Labor Department's One-Stop Centers, would provide new tools for veterans to find jobs online. The new tools would match veterans with available jobs based on the skills they've gained in the military, and employers would be able to post vacancies. The bill was cosponsored by Senator Burr of North Carolina, a senior member of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee.
A June 2011 Government Accountability Office report found serious inadequacies in measures to prevent sexual assault in VA facilities, due to underreporting, poor oversight and lack of adequate security. In response, Sen. Toomey introduced the Veterans Sexual Assault Prevention Act (S. 1689) to protect VA facility patients from sexual assault. Sen. Toomey's measure, which has been signed into law, mandates a new standard of care and protection for patients at VA facilities, including new reporting procedures, an oversight system, and enhanced physical security measures.
Additionally, Senator Toomey introduced a bill (S. 3640) to require the Transportation Security Administration to work with the VA and local charities to distribute unclaimed clothing left at airport security checkpoints to homeless and needy veterans and their families. His bill passed both the Senate and the House of Representatives. The legislation is pending signature by the President.
Senator Toomey is deeply concerned about the backlog of veterans' disabilities claims. VA's annual claims are expected to reach 1,250,000 in 2013, an increase of almost 60 percent since 2005. He has asked the VA to inform him about how VA will accomplish its strategic goal that no claim will be more than 125 days old in 2015.
Sen. Toomey is a member of several Senate military caucuses, including the bipartisan Senate Veterans Jobs Caucus, the Senate National Guard Caucus, the Senate Army Caucus and the Senate Special Operations Caucus.
During his third year in the Senate, Sen. Toomey will continue to support sensible legislation protecting the welfare of our veterans. He also welcomes veterans to contact him for help with federal programs and services. For more information about assistance available for veterans, please visit the senator's website at http://toomey.senate.gov.
AAA warns E15 gasoline could cause car damage
Gary Strauss, USA TODAY November 30, 2012
E15, a higher blend of ethanol and gasoline, has rolled out in a handful of states. But its use in older vehicles is generating warnings from AAA, which says E15 could be harmful to pre-2012 vehicles.
The AAA says the Environmental Protection Agency and gasoline retailers should halt the sale of E15, a new ethanol blend that could damage millions of vehicles and void car warranties.
AAA, which issued its warning Friday, says just 12 million of more than 240 million cars, trucks and SUVs now in use have manufacturers' approval for E15. Flex-fuel vehicles, 2012 and newer General Motors vehicles, 2013 Fords and 2001 and later model Porsches are the exceptions, according to AAA, the nation's largest motorist group, with 53.5 million members.
"It is clear that millions of Americans are unfamiliar with E15, which means there is a strong possibility that many may improperly fill up using this gasoline and damage their vehicle," AAA President and CEO Robert Darbelnet tells USA TODAY. "Bringing E15 to the market without adequate safeguards does not responsibly meet the needs of consumers."
On Monday, President Barack Obama nominated former Republican Senator Chuck Hagel to be his next Secretary of Defense in succession to Leon Panetta. Chuck Hagel's record is one of being a frightening and dangerous apologist for terrorist groups like Hamas and Hizballah, as well as for the Iranian terrorist regime, while being arguably one of the most vicious and hostile critics of Israel. The ZOA believes that appointing Chuck Hagel as Defense Secretary would also serve to confirm the fears that many have that President Obama is no friend of Israel and is not serious about stopping Iran's nuclear program.
ACTION:
Please call your U.S. Senators to urge President Obama not to nominate Chuck Hagel and to vote against his appointment if Hagel's name goes forward for Secretary of Defense. You can reach all U.S. Senators through the Capitol Hill switchboard: 202-224-3121.

BACKGROUND:
In 2009, Hagel signed a letter urging President Obama to begin direct negotiations with Hamas, a U.S. designated terrorist group committed in its Charter to the destruction of Israel and the murder of Jews, a position President Obama has not taken up.
In a 2006 interview with former Middle East negotiator Aaron David Miller, Hagel said that "the Jewish lobby intimidates a lot of people" on Capitol Hill ('Hagel named to intelligence board,' Jewish Telegraphic Agency, October 29, 2009).
In July 2006, at the outbreak of the Lebanon war, Hagel argued against giving Israel the time to break Hizballah, urging instead an immediate ceasefire ('Key Republican breaks with Bush on Mideast,' CNN.com, July 31, 2006).
December 2005: Hagel was one of only 27 senators who refused to sign a letter to President Bush urging him to pressure the Palestinian Authority (PA) to ban terrorist groups from participating in Palestinian legislative elections.
June 2004, Hagel refused to sign a letter urging President Bush to highlight Iran's nuclear program at the G-8 summit and was one of only two senators in to vote against renewal of the Libya-Iran sanctions act.
November 2001: Hagel was one of only 11 senators who refused to sign a letter urging President Bush not to meet with the late Yasser Arafat until his forces ended the violence against Israel.
In July 2001, Hagel was one of only two senators to vote against extending the original Iranian sanctions bill.
October 2000: Hagel was one of only four senators who refused to sign a Senate letter in support of Israel.
This month, hundreds of thousands of Americans will march on Washington, D.C., in defense of the nearly 56 million babies killed in the womb since the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion 40 years ago - and now even the millions who can't travel the nation's capital will flood the offices of President Obama, key government officials and mainstream news media with as many as 2 million empty red envelopes bearing a very clear message:
"This envelope represents one child who died in abortion. It is empty, a life taken that was unable to offer anything to the world. Responsibility and life begin at conception."
Jan. 22, 2013, is the 40th memorial of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion. Now that day has been designated Red Envelope Day as Americans plan to send a visual expression of moral outrage deep into the halls of Congress, beyond the marble columns of the Supreme Court and into the Oval Office.
Red Envelope Day 2013 gives participants the choice to send red envelopes to:
I know there is a lot going on and many are over whelmed. But please keep in mind that is the objective. Cloward and Piven - over load the people so they become so over whelmed they give in and give up. So just keep this in mind. A lot of what is going on is to divert our attention from the real issue. BENGHAZI.
PLEASE purchase 10 postcards. PLEASE ask EVERYONE you know and all members of your group to purchase just 10 postcards and send them to Representative Darrell Issa.
Examples of what you can put on the card are:
WE DEMAND TO KNOW WHO GAVE THE ORDER TO STAND DOWN IN BENGHAZI and PROSECUTE THEM TO THE FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW
"WE THE PEOPLE" DEMAND AN INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION OF BENGHAZI
"WE THE PEOPLE" DEMAND TO KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT BENGHAZI
Use one of the statements, use them all or make up your own but please just 10 postcards from the post office or purchase Gadsden postcards from agenda21today.com. You can buy just a couple or you can buy 1000 for $85 (includes shipping in the USA).
Phone calls are also recommended. Just think if we and everyone we knew sent 10 postcards and made 1 phone call to Rep. Issa it might just make a difference.

Yes, it's true: You can support ACT! for America-at no cost to you!An important message from Guy Rodgers, Executive Director
The next time you make an online purchase of almost anything, you could be helping ACT! for America-at no cost to you.
Sound too good to be true? It isn't.
All you have to do is sign up for "iGive"-a program that's been around since 1997.
The concept is as powerful as it is simple.
Every time an iGive member makes an online purchase at over 1,000 brand-name stores, a percentage of that purchase is donated to that person's charity of choice.
And with the holidays just around the corner, you could be helping ACT! for America with every gift you buy!
The concept isn't new. In the mid-1990s many supporters of non-profit organizations signed up with long distance telephone programs where a percentage of their bill was donated to their charity of choice.
But our investigation of iGive has convinced us that this program has an ease of use and sophistication that we find remarkable.
Imagine booking a hotel room on Orbitz-and having 1.6% of that purchase price donated to ACT! for America.
Or buying an Xbox at Best Buy-and having 1.2% of the purchase price donated to ACT! for America.
The same goes for buying merchandise at Amazon, Bath and Body Works, Advance Auto Parts, Game Stop, Kmart, Home Depot, Holiday Inn, Old Navy, NASCAR Superstore, Overstock.com, Mattel, J.C. Penney, Office Max, QVC, Radio Shack, Shoe Carnival, Pottery Barn-and on and on the list goes.
In other words, every time you make a purchase of merchandise you would buy anyway, you would be financially supporting ACT! for America!
All you have to do is log on below and follow the directions to create your account and download the iGive "button." (Note: downloading the "button" is key).
When I was first informed of iGive, I was skeptical. I've seen these ideas come and go. Often, they're too good to be true. Or there are all kinds of glitches and problems.
So I spent hours researching.
I looked at online customer reviews (which were very good). I read all of iGive's fine print, such as Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. I signed up and even emailed two tech support questions to see how good their tech support was.
And the more I dug, the more I liked what I saw. For instance, both of my tech support questions were responded to within 60 minutes. How often does THAT happen?
As you know from our Patriot Partner program, we're all about encouraging a lot of people to each do a little-to do something. When everyone does a little, together we accomplish a lot.
So consider what could happen.
If just 1% of ACT! for America members each purchased just $400 in merchandise in 2013, from all the available outlets, and the average percentage donated to ACT! was 1.5%, the total amount donated back to ACT! for America would be...
...$15,000. That's a lot of money, wouldn't you agree?
And if you were one of those ACT! for America members, it wouldn't cost you one thin dime to help ACT! for America receive $15,000.
If this idea really caught on, and eventually 5% of our members made purchases with iGive, that $15,000 could explode to $50,000, $75,000 or more!
What's more, that 1.5% figure might be low. Many of the merchants offer percentage donations that are much higher. One printer inkjet company I looked at offered 13%!
Every merchant website you visit tells you right at the top what percentage of your purchase price will be donated to ACT! for America.
Just think what we could accomplish with an extra $15,000, $50,000 or $75,000 in our fight against radical Islam!
One of the things I most wanted to know was their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Check it out for yourself. I confirmed the terms with a company representative. And I like what I learned. As security-conscious as I am, I have no hesitation using the service-and I'm already doing so.
I know there are many people out there who would love to support ACT! for America, or give more than they're giving, but in these tough economic times they simply can't.
Well, here's a way that everyone who believes in our mission can easily support what we're doing-at no cost to them.
It doesn't get any better than that.
There are already chapter leaders who have signed up for the program, and the feedback I have been getting from them has been all positive. They love the idea and many of them are already using it.
So please, join me and these ACT! for America chapter leaders who are already signed up and using the iGive service.
Yours for a safe and free America
Guy Rodgers

The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq
Jul 18th, 2012
Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet,The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.
The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.
Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.
Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.
The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.
The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

American Express Co. ( AXP ) on Thursday announced several hundred million dollars of charges related to cost-cutting measures as it plans to eliminate 5,400 jobs in a move that will reduce its current headcount by 8.5%.
The planned layoffs resulted in a $400 million restructuring charge in the fourth quarter, the New York-based credit- card company said in a surprise earnings announcement. It also said it would record $342 million in expenses related to its cardholder rewards program, and refund $153 million to cardholders related to past customer transactions.
The moves resulted in a profit of $637 million, or 56 cents per share, in the fourth quarter. Excluding the charges, the company would have posted a profit of $1.2 billion, or $1.09 per share. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters were expecting earnings of $1.06 per share.
The company's shares were up 0.8% at $61.27 in after-hours trading Thursday.
"Unfortunately, it seems this environment will persist for several more quarters and business leaders will continue reducing their workforce,"
Here's a rundown of some of the recently announced job cuts: (source: Reuters, with CNBC staff):

Wes is a solid Christian man, a classic gentleman in an age of few, a bleeding-heart conservative, and one of the most faithful allies for so many of us that his departure from the RSC will be a real loss. "CAIR chief claims Muslims discovered America first"
According to a Daily Caller story below (highlights added), CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) co-founder Nihad Awad claims there are "historical accounts" proving that Muslims came to America before Columbus did. Seriously.
Awad's preposterous claim hasn't made it into our public school textbooks-yet. This is not to say school textbooks aren't riddled with other absurdities in their treatment of Islam. (For instance, textbooks commonly claim that Muslim conquerors throughout history were "tolerant" of Christians and Jews and allowed them "full religious freedom," which is patently false. You can see the textbook report ACT! for America Education published here.)
Last year CAIR launched a vicious and dishonest disinformation campaign against ALAC, "American Laws for American Courts" legislation that we've helped pass in Tennessee, Arizona and Kansas, and we expect CAIR to do that again this year.
So here's a heads-up to every person reading this email, from concerned citizen to grassroots activist to journalist to state legislator:
When CAIR comes around this year peddling its so-called "fact sheet" about ALAC, remember that this is the same group that claims Muslims discovered America.
CAIR chief claims Muslims discovered America first
Neil Munro
Muslims discovered the Americas long before Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492, the head of a D.C.-based jihad-linked Islamic lobbying group told a Saudi TV station Dec. 27.
"There are historical accounts according to which the Muslims preceded Columbus, who is said to have discovered the U.S.," claimed Nihad Awad, the co-founder of the Council on American Islamic Relations.
"Some documents and accounts indicate that Muslim seafarers were the first to reach the U.S., [so] the bottom line is that Islam played a part in the establishment and development of the U.S.," Awad told the Saudi interviewer, in an interview in a New York studio.
CAIR did not respond to The Daily Caller's request for an explanation of Awad's comments, which were recorded by the Middle East Media Research Institute.
Awad's group bills itself as a "civil rights" group, but five of its former employees have been jailed or deported for terror offenses, and FBI officials refuse to meet Awad because of his ties to jihadi groups, such as Hamas.
Awad's claim was made during an interview in which he argued that Muslims can settle in the U.S. without violating Islam's myriad Sharia rules about religion, diet, speech, friendships, work and political loyalty.
"Islam flourishes in an atmosphere of freedom, and [it] spreads freedom, justice, and equality," he claimed. "Every day I live as an American-Muslim citizen, I rediscover the firm bonds between the humane system that the U.S. created for its people, and the values advocated by Islam," he claimed.
However, Islam's Sharia laws curb religious freedom, speech, and political activism, and also subordinate non-Muslims and women to orthodox Muslim men. Sharia is enforced in Saudi Arabia, Iran, much of Afghanistan and increasingly in Egypt, Turkey, Tunisia and Libya, all of which were recently governed by secular laws.
Awad's claim is part of a broader campaign by Islamist groups to encourage Muslims to settle in the United States and Europe. From 610 to 632, Islam's founder, Mohammad, reputedly urged his followers to spread Islam by both conquest and emigration.
The Migration Policy Institute rejects "absolute notions of [national] sovereignty"; calls for "gradually disappearing border controls"; and favors massive public spending on the needs of low-income immigrants.

Speaking with characteristic clarity Ronald Reagan summed up talking to liberals saying, "It isn't that Liberals are ignorant. It's just that they know so much that isn't so." South Carolina teacher on leave for stomping on American flag in front of class
Posted By Eric Owens On 01/09/2013
A high school teacher in South Carolina is under investigation and has been placed on long-term administrative leave after he allegedly threw an American flag on the floor and stomped on it in front of his students.
Scott Compton, an English teacher at Chapin High School in Chapin, S.C., reprised the unpatriotic deed in three classes over the course of one day, reports local NBC affiliate WIS.
One parent, Michael Copeland, said he heard his teenage daughter discussing the incident and asked her to tell him the whole story.
"He drew a couple of symbols, like one of them was a cross, and he said, 'What does this represent,' and everybody said, 'Christianity,'" Copeland explained to WIS.
"Then he proceeds to take down the American flag, and said, 'This is a symbol, but it's only a piece of cloth. It doesn't mean anything,' and then he throws it down on the floor and then stomps on it, repeatedly," Copeland continued.
"I asked what was he trying to get, the point across? And she said, 'I don't know,' and he said, his explanation was there would be no consequences, it's just a piece of cloth that doesn't mean anything."
Perhaps ironically, however, Compton would soon face consequences.
Mark Bounds, a spokesperson for the school district, told WIS that the district frequently cautions teachers to avoid introducing personal opinions in the classroom.
"Our superintendent served in the military, I served in the military for 20 years, our flag is a symbol of our freedom, and so many people have fought and died for that liberty, and so we take this action very seriously," Bounds added.
According to FITSNews, a South Carolina-based conservative news and entertain website, people in the Chapin High community describe Compton a "good teacher" who is "very liberal" and "wears it on his sleeve in the classroom."
A substitute teacher will fill in for Compton for the remainder of the school year, according to WIS.

The Persecuted Church
Kudos to Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA). Once again, Rep. Wolf is taking the lead on an issue that gets too little attention -- the persecution of Christians around the world. It's no secret that I am no fan of the Obama Administration, and I have repeatedly criticized Obama for reaching out to the mullahs in Iran, and for praising Islam's contributions to America's history and culture, while staying silent on the persecution of Christians in the Muslim world.
But what is most infuriating to Rep. Wolf and me is the silence of the Christian church in America. Yesterday, Rep. Wolf sent an outstanding letter to 300 Catholic and Protestant leaders urging them to speak out on this incredibly important issue. Here are some excerpts:
"Every day around the world, men and women of faith are imprisoned, beaten, detained, tortured and even killed. ... Have we in the West ceased to be salt and light? ... Has our comfort led to complacency? Can the church in the West be galvanized to act?
"A phrase not often heard outside the majority Muslim world is 'First the Saturday people, then the Sunday people.' The 'Saturday people' are of course the Jews. Their once vibrant communities in countries throughout the region are now decimated. ... "Over the span of a few decades, the Middle East, with the exception of Israel, was virtually emptied of Jews. The same thing will happen to the Christian community if the current trajectory holds true. And yet, the silence of many in the West is deafening. Such stories receive scant attention in the mainstream media, and perhaps more strikingly, are rarely spoken of from our pulpits."
Often folks will respond to my daily reports by asking, "What can we do?" Sometimes it is difficult to suggest action items. But not this time.
Does your priest or pastor speak up about religious persecution overseas? If not, urge him to find his voice.
Does your church have a committee that keeps up with public policy issues, especially those that affect religious liberty? If not, start one. (Religious persecution is a growing concern here at home as well!)
In the coming days, Rep. Wolf will be introducing legislation to create a special envoy within the State Department charged with defending religious minorities around the globe. If you would like to encourage Rep. Wolf, feel free to email your messages directly to me and I will personally deliver them to his office.
A Leftist View Of America
[WARNING: GRAPHIC LANGUAGE]
The latest fad among liberals is to publish the names and addresses of legal gun owners. You may recall that a New York newspaper posted an interactive map of licensed gun owners as if they were convicted sex offenders. As a result of the backlash, the paper decided to post armed guards at its offices. What hypocrisy!
According to Breitbart.com, the leftwing website Gawker has posted a list of licensed gun owners in New York City. What is newsworthy, however, was the Gawker headline: "Here Is a List of All the A**holes Who Own Guns in New York City."
Incidentally, Gawker posted an article last September that many felt was sympathetic to child molesters. Gun owners are a**holes, but child molesters are deserving of sympathy.
The Gawker headline tells you all you need to know about the modern left and its view of other Americans. This is a list of law abiding citizens who complied with strict laws. Many of these folks are probably retired police officers, prison guards or veterans.
A real list of "a**holes" would be the thugs, rapists and gang members who routinely terrorize the citizens of New York City. But you won't find their names on a list of gun owners because they don't obey the law!
By the way, the National Rifle Association is meeting with Vice President Biden today at the White House. Not much is expected to come of the meeting, but the NRA might consider presenting Barack Obama with an award. Since Obama and Biden have launched their crusade against the Second Amendment, 100,000 new members have joined the NRA, while gun dealers and manufacturers are reporting massive backorders.
Pro-Life America
In the aftermath of the 2012 elections, there has been a lot of handwringing on the right about moral issues and how to handle the abortion issue in particular. A recent Marist poll suggests that the professional consultants and political elites are at risk of learning the wrong lessons.
Unlike most polls on the issue, this Marist poll went beyond the standard "pro-life/pro-choice" question. It asked about specific restrictions and found that many people who identify as "pro-choice" also support significant restrictions. Here are some key findings from the poll of more than 1,200 adults:
Regardless of where folks stand on the legality of abortion, 58% said it was "morally wrong."
84% believed it was possible to craft legislation that balanced the health of women and life of unborn children.
Only 17% of Americans support abortion on demand during the first six months of pregnancy.
83% of Americans do not support the pro-abortion regime that is currently reflected in U.S. law.
46% would restrict abortions to cases of rape, incest and to save the life of the mother, while another 10% believe abortion should never be permitted. That is a solid pro-life majority of 56%, but you would never know it from listening to Big Media.
Conservatives should not fear debates about the sanctity of life. They should boldly state their commitment to the belief that we are all endowed by our Creator with the inalienable right to life. Then they should remind Americans that the real extremists in this debate are those on the pro-abortion left, like Barack Obama, who can think of no abortion they would prevent for any reason whatsoever.
Bill Clinton: "Father Of The Year"
For 72 years, the National Father's Day Council has given a "Father of the Year" award to a handful of deserving Dads. They just announced that one of this year's winners will be none other than former President William Jefferson Clinton.
The field must have been really slim this year. Perhaps he won because of how sensitive and caring he was to the young ladies in the White House intern program.
Seriously, were there really no potential Fathers of the Year who could also win the Husband of the Year award? Isn't loving and respecting the mother of your children generally the first step in loving your children?
Something's rotten at the Council. In 2007 one of the award winners was well-known philanderer John Edwards.

Political Strategist Emeritus Gingrich Offers Suggestion to Save 2nd Amendment
Gingrich: Use Debt Ceiling Fight To Stop Obama Gun Ban By Todd Beamon NewsMax.com
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Republicans should use the upcoming debt-ceiling talks to craft legislation that would block Obama from doing anything that is unconstitutional in light of the administration's suggestion they may bypass Congress to craft laws banning certain types of guns.
The Obama administration claimed that it would be listening to a wide variety of views in looking for solutions to mass shootings and other forms of violence. The administration invited the NRA to a meeting today with Joe Biden, Eric Holder and others. To the surprise of some-those who aren't familiar with the NRA's commitment to gun safety-the organization accepted the invitation. The meeting, however, did not go well. Following the meeting, the NRA issued this statement:
The National Rifle Association of America is made up of over 4 million moms and dads, daughters and sons, who are involved in the national conversation about how to prevent a tragedy like Newtown from ever happening again. We attended today's White House meeting to discuss how to keep our children safe and were prepared to have a meaningful conversation about school safety, mental health issues, the marketing of violence to our kids and the collapse of federal prosecutions of violent criminals.
We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment. While claiming that no policy proposals would be "prejudged," this Task Force spent most of its time on proposed restrictions on lawful firearms owners - honest, taxpaying, hardworking Americans. It is unfortunate that this Administration continues to insist on pushing failed solutions to our nation's most pressing problems. We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be blamed for the acts of criminals and madmen. Instead, we will now take our commitment and meaningful contributions to members of congress of both parties who are interested in having an honest conversation about what works - and what does not.
On one front after another, "our way or the highway" has been the Obama administration's position. To some degree, this may represent post-reelection hubris. But mostly I think it reflects the fact that Obama and his minions don't have much serious interest in governing. Even when there is nothing left to run for, politics is the only game they know, so that's what they play.
Thomas Boswell in the Washington Post compares the Washington Nationals treatment of young pitching star Stephen Strasburg with the Washington Redskins treatment of young quarterbacking sensation Robert Griffin, III. In case you have been vacationing in Mongolia, the Redskins created quite a controversy by not pulling Griffin, who was playing on a damaged knee, from their playoff game against Seatle even after he was hobbling visibly and throwing ineffectively. Eventually, Griffin collapsed in a heap on a key play, and now has undergone serious knee surgery. The Nationals, by contrast, stopped using Strasburg during their push for the championship based on advice that if he continued to pitch he might damage his healthy throwing arm, given previous surgery on it.
Boswell argues that the difference in the treatment of Strasburg and Griffin reflects "differences in team building philosophy, in treatment [and] preservation of assets, and in basic ethical behavior.
Is Boswell right? I think in general he is, but probably overstates his case.
For one thing, the difference in the treatment of Strasburg and Griffin may also reflect differences between baseball and football. The warrior mentally, strong in both sports, is transcendent in football. This may help explain why Redskins coach Mike Shanahan was so reluctant to pull his star quarterback, who insisted he was good-to-go and who had led the Redskins to victory in several games in which he was also hobbled, without suffering apparent physical damage.
This is not to deny that Shanahan made a poor decision by leaving Griffin in the line of fire after he hobbled to the sidelines on a nine yard run on a second-half play. Given that play and the inaccuracy of Griffin's passing, it seemed clear that something was very wrong with his already injured knee.
To not pull Griffin at that point was an error and probably a foolish one. But to suggest it was unethical, absent evidence that one of the respected doctors on the sidelines told Shanahan he should pull Griffin, goes too far. In my view, Shanahan is guilty only of poor judgment - probably the result of excessive faith in the exceptional qualities of his quarterback-protege and being caught up in the moment.
Turning to the Nationals, to compare their decision to shut Strasburg down with the Redskins decision to leave Griffin in against Seattle is too slanted in the baseball team's favor. A proper comparison between the Nationals and the Redskins would focus not on Shanahan's decision during the playoff game, but on his decision to use Griffin after his initial injury during the regular season in a game against Baltimore. Had they employed the Nationals philosophy, the Redskins would not have risked Griffin after that point, just as the Nats didn't risk using Strasburg when it received a yellow flag, as opposed to a red one.
Should the Redskins have followed the Strasburg model and sidelined Griffin for what remained of the season following the Baltimore game? Perhaps. Did Boswell urge them to do so? I don't know. Did I favor this? Not at the time. To have ended Griffin's season then would have seemed excessively cautious, just as the decision to shut Strasburg down strikes many fans.
If the Redskins had ended Griffin's season at that point, they probably would not have made the playoffs. His replacement, Kirk Cousins, was good enough to lead them to victory against Cleveland and could have done so against Philadelphis. But I don't think the Skins would have beaten Dallas without Griffin.
So in an apples-to-apples comparison, the Nationals reduced their chances of advancing in the playoffs in order to protect Strasburg and their investment in him. The Redskins were not similarly moved to reduce their chances of advancing to the playoffs.
The rest of the story remains to play out. Will Strasburg remain healthy, or did the Nationals hurt their 2012 championship prospects for naught? Will Griffin recover fully from surgery and avoid reinjury, or has the player's career been impaired?
Regardless of the answers, the two clubs did make different choices. Neither club should be happy about the way their decision played out in the 2012 season, although neither club will admit that they aren't.
But, yes, the Nationals put a higher premium on the long term and on the physical well-being of their star, while the Redskins put a higher premium on winning now.
Has the Obama administration ever met an anti-American ruler it won't give comfort to? The question arises again from reports that the State Department has extended the hand of good fellowship to Venezuelan Vice President Nicolas Maduro. Why? Because with Hugo Chavez soon to depart this world, State sees "an opening" through which it can "engage" hostile Venezuela.
Whenever one hears President Obama or the State Department speak of "openings" and "engagement" it's time to worry. This case is no exception.
Maduro, you see, isn't some figure-head vice president. To the contrary, he's the architect of some of the Chavez regime's worst anti-American policies. As foreign minister, a position he still holds, Maduro led the campaign to forge closer relations with Iran. He also helped align Venezuela with Syria. And he has made reckless and unfounded allegations of CIA activity in Venezuela.
Moreover, it is far from inevitable that Maduro will be in charge for long after Chavez dies. A power struggle is looming. So perhaps, for once, the Obama administration should tilt away from, not towards, the most anti-American option.
That's the view of Roger Noriega who oversaw our Latin American policy in a less sophisticated time when anti-Americanism was not viewed as a threshold test of legitimacy. Noriega worries that Obama's diplomatic initiatives will assist Maduro in the impendnig power struggle.
[Maduro] is an heir to a guy who's been unrelentingly hostile to the United States and really doing his bidding. Did [the Obama administration] see that this is a very convoluted, complicated succession, a power struggle within Chavism, and they're meeting with one of the protagonists in this power struggle?
You'll never guess the argument in favor of dealing with Maduro. The argument is that Maduro is, at root, a "pragmatist." This is the word the "smart power" folks have attached to Morsi in Egypt, to Assad in Syria, and to various anti-American zealots in Iran.
What does "pragmatist" mean in this context? The functional definition is: those with whom the Obama administration wishes to "engage." The substantive definition is: an anti-American who is willing to play the likes of Barack Obama, John Kerry, and Nancy Pelosi for suckers as long as no action is required to do so.
In another sign that the end of times is approaching, Bill Clinton has been named by the National Father's Day Council to receive one of its coveted Father of the Year awards:
"With the profound generosity, leadership and tireless dedication to both his public office and many philanthropic organizations, President Clinton exemplifies the attributes that we celebrate through the Father of the Year award," said Dan Orwig, chairman of the National Father's Day Committee.
Perhaps this explains it:
The not-for-profit group awards Father of the Year to "contemporary lifestyle leaders of our culture" and raises money for its philanthropic efforts. Past recipients from the world of politics have included Michael Bloomberg, Andrew Cuomo and his father, Mario Cuomo, and Rudy Giuliani.
Accepting the award on behalf of Mr. Clinton is Arnold Schwarzenegger. Just kidding. But John Edwards was in fact a 2007 Father of the Year award winner (video below, via the Daily Caller).
The award seems like a bit of a head scratcher because the Chappaqua resident's only known child, Chelsea, is a married 32-year-old woman who hasn't lived at home since she moved away to college in 1997, a few months before most Americans first heard the name Monica Lewinsky.
One of the striking features of the current debate over gun control is how tired the liberals' ideas are. Chief among their proposals is re-instituting the ban on "assault weapons." But we've already tried that: a ban on "assault weapons"-a meaningless term that finds significance only in the arbitrary definitions of the defunct federal statute-was in effect for ten years, from 1994 to 2004, and no one claims that it did any good. Connecticut, like a number of other states, already bans "assault weapons," but that availed the kids at Sandy Hook nothing.
Today New York's Governor Andrew Cuomo grabbed headlines by attacking "gun violence" and proposing measures to respond to the Sandy Hook murders. But what were they? The same tired old ideas:
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo called for closing loopholes in a state ban on assault weapons and ammunition magazines that carry more than 10 bullets as part of a wide-ranging gun control package he proposed in his State of the State speech Wednesday.
This is beyond stupid. Rifles, notwithstanding Adam Lanza's murder spree, are involved in hardly any homicides. More than five times as many Americans are murdered with knives than rifles-all rifles, not just "assault rifles." More Americans are murdered with blunt objects; more are beaten to death with bare hands. The idea that banning "assault weapons" is the key to a more peaceful America is ludicrous.
Likewise with "ammunition magazines that carry more than 10 bullets." I own two such magazines; there are countless millions in circulation. A magazine is a simple device, made from sheet metal and a spring; many thousands of Americans could make them in their garages. But let's suppose that you could magically make all such magazines disappear. All a would-be mass murderer needs to do is pre-load, say, four 10-bullet magazines and carry them with him. People do this all the time. It takes only a second or two to drop an empty magazine from a semiautomatic rifle or pistol and slide a new one in. The idea that lives will be saved by making magazines smaller is pathetic. And yet, this is pretty much what the Democrats have to offer.
There are, actually, things that could be done to reduce the number of mass shootings, although mass shootings are already so rare that success would be hard to measure. (Check the statistics; you are far more likely to be struck by lighting than involved in a mass shooting.) First on the list would be revitalizing the nation's mental institutions. Ever since the institutions were depopulated in the 1960s, large numbers of crazy people have roamed the streets of America. Most of them are harmless, but many are not. If we were serious about preventing lunatics from committing murders, mass and otherwise, we wouldn't harass law-abiding gun owners, we would lock up lunatics. But liberals don't want to do this, because they think it violates the rights of the insane. When the inevitable consequences come home to roost, they blame guns.
Short of institutionalization, there are other measures that might help to make it more difficult for the deranged to obtain firearms. But liberals don't seem interested in such practical proposals. It is hard to avoid the conclusion that with respect to guns, as with many other issues, the Democrats are interested only in demagoguery, not serious governance.
How many people would be in jail if annoying or offending a person were against the law? The answer: pretty much everyone. If you think that you might be one of these people and you like to send information electronically, there are a few places you should probably avoid.
Since he was sworn into the Senate in 2011, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has consistently fought against overcriminalization. Senator Paul has spent his time in the Senate educating people on the issue of overcriminalization, blocking legislation with overcriminalization elements, and proposing solutions to the overcriminalization problem. Paul should be applauded for his efforts.
The Definitive Book on Why and How to Reform Criminal Law Available Now
ABOUT OVERCRIMINALIZATION
The Heritage Foundation and a coalition of public interest legal groups are committed to reversing the troubling trend of overcriminalization, which is defined by three attributes:
1. Federalizing crime that properly belongs under state and local jurisdiction;
2. Imposing criminal penalties upon persons who acted without criminal intent (mens rea);
3. Applying criminal sanctions to conduct that historically has not been considered wrongful.
This Legislative Update includes bills our researchers have identified that add or expand federal criminal offenses or penalties, but it generally does NOT include bills involving drugs, firearms, or crimes of violence.

Reform Medicare, Sustain It Long Term
The editorial board of The Washington Post, no organ of conservative opinion, is absolutely right: "Medicare as we know it is not sustainable," and the "ultimate solution" is structural reform. Bingo.
The right structural reform is to expand Medicare's defined-contribution financing (routinely called "premium support") as it broadly exists today in Medicare Part D to the entire Medicare program.
As the Post's editors observe, consensus does not yet exist on Capitol Hill for comprehensive structural reform. However, there are several short-term, bipartisan proposals compatible with structural reform that can improve the program, trim the debt, and reduce the dangerous financial pressures that threaten Medicare's viability.
The Post's key recommendations-yielding an estimated 10-year savings of $420 billion-largely track The Heritage Foundation's proposed changes for traditional Medicare as part of its comprehensive budgetary reform proposal, Saving the American Dream. Among their key proposals:
Gradually raise Part B premiums from 25 percent to 35 percent of total program costs.
Streamline Medicare's cost-sharing rules and restructure Medi-gap coverage.
Add a 10 percent co-payment for every 60-day episode of home health care.

Planned Parenthood Sets Record for Abortions and Government Funding by Sarah Torre, Research Asst.at DeVos Center for Religion & Civil Society
The nation's largest abortion provider maintained its infamous title, performing 333,964 abortions-a record for the organization that received 45 percent of its revenues from taxpayer-funded government sources during the 2011-12 fiscal year. According to analysis by Susan B. Anthony List, Planned Parenthood has performed almost 1 million abortions in the past three years alone.
Despite the organization's prominence-performing roughly one out of every four abortions in America-Planned Parenthood has ridden the waves of taxpayer funding to millions of dollars in annual surpluses. Last year, like many before it, Planned Parenthood saw a very comfortable income, reporting excess revenues exceeding $87 million and net assets of more than $1.2 billion.
In the face of large surpluses and increased abortions, activists are still quick to point to the provision of other services to justify continued and expanded federal funding of the organization. But a closer look at Planned Parenthood's own report and actions still point to a strong emphasis on abortion procedures.
While Planned Parenthood affiliates performed a record number of abortions in 2011, the organization made only 2,300 adoption referrals and provided fewer than 30,000 prenatal services. Roughly 40 percent of the organization's reported contraceptive services last year were the provision of more than 1.4 million emergency contraception kits, which many believe can cause an abortion in early pregnancy. To solidify its place as the top abortion provider, Planned Parenthood recently announced that all local affiliates would have to begin providing abortion services starting in 2013.
Women can receive clinical breast exams at some Planned Parenthood affiliates, but women are referred to local health care providers for more comprehensive mammogram services. Planned Parenthood can use funds obtained from grant sources to pay for the referrals, but it acts merely as a go-between for women in need of screening. As Alliance Defending Freedom's (ADF) Casey Mattox explained following an ADF Freedom of Information Act request, no Planned Parenthood affiliate even holds the licenses necessary under federal law to perform mammograms.
If Planned Parenthood's lackluster offering of breast health support and single-minded provision of abortion services isn't enough to question the continual stream of federal tax dollars, accusations of fraud and the group's apparent willingness to abet the sex trafficking of minor girls should at least raise scrutiny of the organization's federal funding.
Late last week, Representative Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) introduced the "Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act," which would strip Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers of federal taxpayer support under Title X funding.
There has been longstanding consensus that federal dollars should not be used to fund abortions. Policymakers looking for organizations capable of self-funding more of their activities and wishing to put limited federal tax dollars for women's health to more efficient and effective use would do well to view Planned Parenthood's subsidies with a critical eye.
More than Half of Abortions Performed on Women in 20's
Since 1973, the share of all abortions performed on teenage girls has decreased by nearly half. The shares for women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s and older have increased, particularly for older women.

DeVos Center for Religion and Civil Society at The Heritage Foundation
Founded in 1973, The Heritage Foundation is the nation's most broadly supported public policy organization. Heritage established the DeVos Center for Religion and Civil Society in 2004 to educate government officials, the media and the public about the role religion, family, and civil society play in sustaining freedom and the common good.
When we talk about "economic freedom," what do we mean-and why does it matter?
Economic freedom is the fundamental right of every human to control his or her own labor and property. In an economically free society, individuals are free to work, produce, consume, and invest in any way they please, with that freedom both protected by the state and unconstrained by the state.
Since reaching a global peak in 2008, sadly, economic freedom around the world has continued to stagnate.
Today launches the 19th edition of the Index of Economic Freedom, produced by The Heritage Foundation and The Wall Street Journal. The 2013 Index was edited by Ambassador Terry Miller, director of Heritage's Center for International Trade and Economics; Kim Holmes, Ph.D., Heritage's Distinguished Fellow; and Edwin J. Feulner, Ph.D., Heritage's president.
What are the reasons for the worldwide sluggishness? As Ambassador Miller writes in The Wall Street Journal, "Particularly concerning are the rise of populist 'democratic' movements that use the coercive power of government to redistribute income and control economic activity."
While "corrupt political and legal environments cause underdevelopment in poorer countries," Miller writes, "unfortunately, economic favoritism and cronyism exist in advanced democracies, too." Americans are well aware, and the overall U.S. score has been dropping since 2009. From 2009 to 2010, the U.S. declined from being a "free" economy to "mostly free." This year, it ranks 10th in the world.
The Most Free
1. Hong Kong 2. Singapore 3. Australia 4. New Zealand 5. Switzerland 6. Canada 7. Chile 8. Mauritius 9. Denmark 10. United States
One reason for America's lack of freedom is that its scores on regulatory efficiency-which include business freedom and labor freedom-have dropped. The editors point to the fact that "over 100 new major federal regulations have been imposed on business operations since early 2009 with annual costs of more than $46 billion."
Miller explains that what happens in Washington affects not only every corner of America, but of the world:
It is no exaggeration to blame the recent slowdown in economic liberalization around the world on the lack of U.S. leadership. Trade flows-the engine of world growth-have declined as the U.S. economy has stagnated. Protectionism threatens consumers and businesses with higher costs and restrictions in supply. Ill-conceived banking regulations such as the Dodd-Frank law generate uncertainty and anxiety. And investment freedom declines in the face of higher costs and new legal and tax liabilities such as those introduced by ObamaCare. These misguided U.S. policies hurt Americans first, but others feel the harm as well.
North America continues to be the world's freest region, though Mexico was the only economy that improved its Index score over the last year. The region boasts two "mostly free" economies (Canada and the United States) and one "moderately free" economy (Mexico). It leads the world in terms of rule of law, regulatory efficiency, and open markets, but is getting worse where government spending is concerned.
About the Index
Launched in 1995, the Index evaluates countries in four broad areas of economic freedom: rule of law; regulatory efficiency; limited government; and open markets. Based on an aggregate score, each of 177 countries graded in the 2013 Index was classified as "free," "mostly free," "moderately free," "mostly unfree," or "repressed."
The broader areas are broken down into 10 measures: property rights, freedom from corruption, fiscal freedom, government spending, business freedom, labor freedom, monetary freedom, trade freedom, investment freedom, and financial freedom.
Compare up to three countries of your choice on all 10 measures of economic freedom with an interactive, color-coded chart feature.
See a colorful heat map of the spread of economic freedom around the world, or select a specific region.
Each country's profile includes quick facts such as its population, gross domestic product (GDP), unemployment rate, and the amount of foreign investment flowing into the country-and you can embed this data in your blog or website.

Leftist America: Cursing Obama's Opponents By Ben Shapiro The left has become a collection of bullies, knee-jerk moralists without the morality. They aren't interested in the best policy. It was a cloudy, overcast mid-November morning just before Thanksgiving when Roseanne-Cher Moonbatt's daughter Freelunch suddenly began screaming at the top of her lungs and crying, "Mommy, mommy, it's gone!!! WAAAAH!" The 27-year old had been re-checking her student loan account online and was disappointed to find her huge balance due had not magically gone away as she was hoping.
But her distress turned to horror when she looked out the basement window and discovered her pet unicorn Hopealong-Changedy had disappeared without a trace. The animal was a gift from the 2008 Obama campaign where she had worked as an unpaid Twitterer and, along with her degree in Justin Beiber Studies, was one of her most prized posessions.
Gov. Cuomo attacks "assault" weapons with seemingly no knowledge of what they are
Given that NYC is willing to limit how much of a sugary drink you can buy, it stands to reason the state's governor would be willing to go after guns. The problem is, he has no idea what he is talking about. Glenn rips Gov. Cuomo on radio today for going after 'assault' rifle's without knowing what they are. WATCH
Biden flips: Obama could rule on gun control by executive order
As Vice President Joe Biden gets ready to present the recommendations of his gun violence prevention task force, he is already talking about the ways in which the President could implement stricter gun laws. (Hint: It doesn't involve Congress.) That's a little different from Joe's bold "I guarantee you Barack Obama ain't taking my shotguns" declaration back in 2008. Glenn reacts on radio.
