Scandalous: Security Force In Benghazi Was Unarmed
Reports are coming out from those with personal knowledge of the security situation in Benghazi indicating that Senators, who have been in meetings behind closed doors listening to testimony, were shocked to learn that security personnel agents, supplied by the State Department, were not armed. Instead they had to be separated from Ambassador Chris Stevens in order to retrieve their M4 weapons, which were in a separate building.
Former President Bill Clinton has emerged as a hero to many Americans, especially liberals. He has become a Democratic icon, a deeply beloved figure. This is why he was tapped to give the nomination speech for President Obama at the Democratic National Convention. The delegates in Charlotte, N.C., loved it. The reason is simple: His presence - and words - reminded everyone of better days. The 1990s were fat years, an age of supposed peace and prosperity. Mr. Clinton gave Mr. Obama his stamp of approval. Bubba assured America that a second Obama term would deliver economic recovery and a revived middle class - akin to a return to the 1990s.
As usual, he was peddling snake oil. His speech was vintage Clinton: dishonest, self-indulgent, cynical, wonky, pretentious and disconnected from reality. The fact is the 1990s was a disastrous decade, which America is still paying for. It was not just a holiday from history - dominated by an orgy of consumer spending and the coarsening of our culture - but something more pernicious: the squandering of our power and wealth. Mr. Clinton did not preside over America's boom. Rather, he played a pivotal role in triggering our national decline.
Under his watch, the forces of radical Islam gathered steam - and went largely unopposed. The Taliban tightened their grip over Afghanistan. Pakistan attained the Muslim world's first nuclear bomb. Iran embarked upon its nuclear program. Somalia became a jihadist haven. Mr. Clinton's military interventions in Bosnia and Kosovo enabled Islamists to infiltrate the Balkans. Al Qaeda declared war on the United States. The 1993 World Trade Center attacks, the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in East Africa, and the 2000 suicide assault on the USS Cole - Islamic terrorists were able to strike American targets with near impunity. Sudan's government even offered to hand over Osama bin Laden to Washington. Mr. Clinton's response: no thanks. Instead of confronting the rise of Islamofascism, he ignored it. The Sept. 11 terrorist atrocities were a direct result of Mr. Clinton's negligent, reckless policies.
States Should Absolutely Refuse to Set Up Obamacare Exchanges
By Mario Loyola
November 13, 2012
Proponents of Obamacare are making one argument that some conservatives may find appealing - namely that it is much better, from a states' rights point of view, to set up state-based exchanges than to let the feds come in and do it themselves. This argument is absolutely wrong. Allowing your states to be deputized as instruments of federal policy is just as bad as bowing to federal commandeering of state agencies, which is unconstitutional.
Let's begin with the principle that the federal government is not allowed to command states or their officials to do anything. That was settled in the two modern commandeering cases, New York v. United States (1992) and Printz v. United States (1997). The federal government has gotten around that through a variety of schemes under the general category of "cooperative federalism." The Supreme Court has generally taken a permissive attitude of these schemes, only because the states supposedly retain freedom of choice, "both in theory and in fact." But it is increasingly clear that their choice is not really free, because they are penalized if they don't comply with the federal program.
This problem is clear with programs like Medicaid: The feds tax money away from the states (or they borrow it from the capital markets) and then offer to give it back to the states on condition that they comply with federal preferences. In the Obamacare decision, the Supreme Court ruled that the feds can't present states with the "loaded gun" of losing existing Medicaid funds if they don't comply with the Medicaid expansion requirements. But states still lose the money Obamacare "offers" for the Medicaid expansion itself, hence there is still a draconian penalty.
With the exchanges, there is also federal conditional "aid" in play, but the real penalty the states face if they don't bow to the will of Obamacare is that the feds will come in and take over the health-care market. But it's much easier for the feds to do that in a handful of states than for them to do it in most of the states. Feds might not be able to do it in a large number of states without asking Congress for more money or for amendments to the law. That would strengthen the position of the House of Representatives, and its GOP majority.
State governors should be under no illusions: You are not preserving one iota of state autonomy by setting up your own Obamacare exchange. On the contrary, you are letting the feds deputize you as instruments of federal policy. Let the feds set up the exchanges themselves; they can pay for them and be accountable for the results. That will impose a real limit on federal power, and provide leverage for rolling back some of Obamacare. In the meantime the message of state governments to the Department of Health and Human Services should be an absolute and unequivocal "NO."
Patriots,
Goal: 25 calls a day into all six offices (the Governor and five House leadership)
Adopt A Day Commitment: You personally recruit 5 other people to make the calls with you and ask each of them to find 1 other person to also make a call that day. If you do that you personally will have been responsible for 11 calls into the Governor and House leadership's offices. That's amazing!
Next Action for AFP to support You on your "Adopt a Day":
1.) Once you sign up, Matt or Randy will be reaching out to you via email to confirm your date.
2.) Work with leaders on given day to maximize impact and total number of calls.
3.) Matt, Randy or Ed
Things to Keep in Mind: 1.) This is a "HELPING HAND CALL" and not a "PUNCH IN THE FACE CALL". As mentioned on the conference call, we are one step away from getting what we want...which is Corbett to FULLY close the door on the state exchange...and YOUR HARD WORK helped get him to where we need him to be. So use this opportunity to once again educate and ask Corbett to be a champion for us.
2.) The wheels of change, especially in government, turn very, very, very slowly. Don't be frustrated. Well...you can be frustrated...but don't give up and hold steady on the course. You are doing the right thing and it is making a difference.
3.) A recent news item has come out saying that the federal government and the insurance companies are saying that premiums for states that do not adopt the exchange will be increased. Here is a great way to answer this when speaking with the Governor or legislators:
"We understand the insurance companies are threatening to raise premiums on states that do not adopt exchanges...but let's not kid ourselves...premiums and everything else associated with healthcare are going to increase dramatically, now that Obamacare is law for the foreseeable future. That is a given...so this is nothing new. Furthermore, nothing will cost us more than having our state "own" this exchange when the federal funding runs out in 2015. It will cost the average family over $3000 a year. Do you want to know what $3,000 means for my family? It means I could pay for xxxxx (insert what you could or actually do do with $3,000 a year. For instance: it is a years worth of Catholic school education, it is a year's water bill, it is a year's IRA contribution etc)."
4.) When you make your calls, please make sure you mention you are working with Americans for Prosperity in Pennsylvania. It is so important to continue to build your group by showing that you are part of a larger coalition. AFP is working across the country to defeat the exchanges. In PA, we are working not just as activists, but within the Capitol and with our key donors. You want the legislators and the Governor to know that YOU and YOUR group are part of a very big, broad and powerful COALITION.

ObamaCare is Not a Sure Thing
December 5, 2012
by Phyllis Schlafly
Those who thought ObamaCare was set in concrete by Chief Justice John Roberts' decision last June are in for a shock. December 14 is the new deadline (extended from November 16) for states to let the feds know, yea or nay, whether or not they will be setting up a health insurance exchange, which is the key to participating in the misnamed Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

IMPORTANT MEETING! UN Agenda 21
Please plan to be there. Put the date on your calendar now.
A "show and tell" with John Taylor who works with Tom Dewees, at the American Policy Center, a 15 year leader of exposing this UN scheme to take away your property rights and other American liberties, otherwise known as sustainable development.
Agenda 21 is the plan that is intended to take away the rights and liberties of all Americans. Currently, there is a big push to institute a global tax and make the UN the global IRS. If you think this is not possible, I challenge you to find out the real truth.
The UN Agenda 21 plan is also to take away your gun rights, control the sea, space and air (global commons), have financial regulatory authority, a global economic council, and a world monetary board. But one of the worst things for us, is the plan to take away our right of property ownership and turn much of our country into uninhabited wastelands. No roads, no transportation, no population.
If you think this is extreme and can't happen, you are wrong. This plan is so far down the road that we will have a very hard time stopping it. There are many counties and townships in our area that have already signed up and are involved, including the borough of West Chester. These communities and counties don't realize what they are signing up to support. The words they use are positive sounding, but the results are very ugly. Some municipalities in Maryland have fought and have won their way out of the program.
Everyone needs to learn about this plot. Please personally invite your supervisors, the RCCC, commissioners, and other legislators. Do this now! Plan to greet them, sit with them and follow up with them. They are so involved with other issues that Agenda 21 seems far off and impossible. Aware citizens must help them learn the reality!
We the People must defeat any treaty that promises to hand the UN global taxing powers or any other powers over our nation and our liberties!
Please join the VFP and participate - join like-minded patriots and learn how we can help stop this assault on America!
Free parking, food and drink available for purchase.
Tickets: $25.00 includes appetizers, beer, wine and soft drinks. This is to cover the expenses of the party. Please RSVP by replying to this email. Please send your checks to:

AMERICAN JEWS AND CHRISTIAN EVANGELICALS: IRRECONCILABLE ENEMIES OR INEVITABLE ALLIES?
Michael Medved is a nationally syndicated radio talk show host and bestselling author. His daily show is heard by over 3.75 million people across the country. Born in Philadelphia, Michael won admission to Yale at age 16 as a National Merit Scholar. He majored in American History and graduated with honors, before attending Yale Law School, where his classmates included Bill and Hillary Clinton. Michael wrote his first bestseller at age 26 - "What Really Happened to the Class of '65?" - a skeptical reconsideration of the "counterculture" of the 1960's that became a weekly TV series on NBC.
Many American Jews distrust and even fear the rise of the evangelical Christianity. They see this religious movement as a threat to the survival of Judaism in the United States and to the continuance of a society that values pluralism and religious liberty. On the other hand increasing numbers of American Jews view evangelicals as natural allies, not just when it comes to support of Israel, but on a range of social issues here in the U.S. In this provocative presentation, Michael Medved will explain where Jews and Christians already agree, and where they can never agree, in their participation in the ongoing battles shaping American society.

Just got off the phone with our Michigan state director, Scott Hagerstrom, I had to tell you what's been going on in Lansing, Michigan, for the last few days.
Both houses of the Michigan legislature have passed final versions of right-to-work bills--meaning that, if you want a certain job, you don't have to join the union if you don't want to.
The bills are heading to the desk of Michigan Governor Rick Synder and will await his signature.
Right now, everyone on the Left--union bosses, special interest groups, and even President Obama himself--is ramping up pressure for him to not sign these necessary workers' rights reforms.
But they didn't count on thousands of AFP activists standing in their way--that people on our side are energized and passionate, and ready to do whatever it takes to secure workplace freedom.
That's why, over the past few days, the Left's protesters have pulled out every old trick they have to silence us and bully us: they've spent days yelling every obscenity they could think of, and--just this morning--they attacked our peaceful rally.
During this rally, union protesters surrounded AFP's tent at the Capitol and tore it down--actually trapping a number of our folks underneath it.
I'm proud to say that AFP activists have fought alongside a strong coalition of freedom loving groups in Michigan to help pass this bill, which, just six weeks ago, seemed like a long shot.
People like you were out there for the last few weeks, making thousands of phone calls, visiting key lawmakers to support workers' rights, and standing outside the Capitol in support, in defiance of union bullying.
And hundreds more AFP activists all across the nation joined in the fight this weekend, with their generous donations to help support this cause and keep our people on the ground, fighting.
We know this fight is bigger than Michigan. This fight is about giving American workers the freedom to choose what job they want, without having to forcibly give up part of their paychecks to fund a union they might not support.
And the fact that it's happening in Michigan--the home of the United Auto Workers and the birth place of the modern labor movement--means that it could literally happen in any state across the country.
Like what happened in Wisconsin last year, people on the state level are hungry for change. They want to see more freedom and more open labor markets. They want to remove barriers to job growth, and they want to keep more money in the pockets of the American people.
And, all across the country, we're winning the hearts and minds of Americans, and they're seeing, more and more, that states simply function better when economic freedom expands for everyone.
And, of course, this seismic shift wouldn't be possible without your help, so, again, thank you for everything you're doing.
Whether you're helping rebuild our tent right now in Lansing, or reading this email on a computer thousands of miles from Michigan, I hope you're proud to know that, thanks to the dedicated support of activists like you, we're, once again, on the goal line for another major victory to restore economic freedom.
Sincerely,
Tim Phillips, President

Pressure Mounting for Challenge to Boehner as Speaker
Tuesday, December 11, 2012
By: Jim Meyers
Growing displeasure among Republicans over House Speaker John Boehner's fiscal cliff discussions is sparking speculation that he could face a challenge for his leadership position in January.
Several rebellious Republicans have hinted that they won't vote to re-elect Boehner. And a conservative interest group has announced efforts to recruit a challenger to the speaker.
Boehner has said he is willing to accept an $800 million income tax increase for wealthier Americans if the money comes from cutting deductions and loopholes and not from higher marginal rates.
That doesn't sit well with conservatives who insist the budget deficit is a result of too much spending, not too little taxing, the Washington Times observed.
And the National Journal reported, "Murmurs of some sort of challenge, or other conservative demonstration, against Boehner tied to the speaker election are percolating amid rising angst over a potential cave by Boehner on taxes in fiscal cliff talks."
American Majority Action, a conservative interest group, has endorsed Rep. Tom Price of Georgia for the speaker post, and has launched a lobbying drive to convince rank-and-file GOP members to withhold their votes from Boehner, who has led the GOP in the House since 2006.
1.Union Thugs Shout "I'll Kill a Mother F***** With a Gun!" While Assaulting Opponents
Steven Crowder is in Michigan recording the protests that are taking place. At some point, as Moe Lane noted earlier, the crowd started tearing down the AFP tent that was there. When Crowder attempted to intervene, he was assaulted by multiple protestors with one protestor even shouting that he would "kill a mother f__ker with a gun." . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2. Obama Uncensored & Unions Unleashed: Despite Violent Union Protests, Michigan Gets The Right-To-Work
Barely one week ago, the unthinkable was merely a rumor. However, yesterday, the unthinkable happened as Michigan became the 24th state in the nation to enact Right-to-Work legislation, giving workers the choice on whether to pay a union in their unionized workplaces or not. No longer will unions be able to have Michigan workers fired for refusing to pay union dues or fees.
Listening to the self-righteous protestations of the class warriors, one would come away with the impression that the rich don't pay any taxes. In fact, the top 1% of tax filers paid 37.4% of all federal income taxes in 2010; the top 2% paid almost 50%.
Unfortunately, when it comes to real handouts for the rich, liberals are silent. In their dyslexic worldview, a tax cut is a handout and a handout is a tax cut. That is why both Democrats and Republicans are plotting to surreptitiously slip in a farm bill to the final negotiations over the tax rates. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4.Reality vs. Union "Right to Work is WRONG" Infographic
We Are Ohio recently published an infographic of AFL-CIO talking points from 2002, presenting decade-old union spin against workplace freedom as current facts. The infographic, which contains four claims and lists no source, is easily debunked with public records and an understanding of what "right to work" means. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
5.The Obamacare Fiscal Cliff
Obama claims that his tax plan would only increase the tax burden on those earning more than $200,000.What the Democrats, the media, and even Republicans fail to mention is that there is another aspect of the fiscal cliff that will hit everyone.A number of Obamacare's tax increases are scheduled to take effect in January. These tax increases will be severely regressive to those at the middle and bottom of the income ladder, as they will engender a record spike in the cost of health insurance premiums. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
6.Three Tools to Educate an Uninformed Electorate on the Fiscal Cliff
Over several months now, I have been devoting attention to the question of how conservatives can win both policy debates and elections, not by appropriating policies that Democrats advocate and putting a Republican stamp on them, but rather by educating Americans and converting those who don't already share our perspective to it.
My basic thesis is that we win by getting more people to agree with us (others would have us believe that we win by getting us to agree with more people).
In the last election, we saw a significant failure on this front, both with regard to our own nominee being less committed to both conservative policies and this effort than many of us would have liked, and with regard to the result (voters supporting the guy who ran on a platform of higher spending and more debt).
We also saw Republicans fail to use technology and digital communications mechanisms adequately to educate and persuade voters of the merits of conservative viewpoints, and then organize them to do the things necessary to win the election.
Now, we are engaged in a discussion surrounding the fiscal cliff where the emphasis in negotiations seems to be very much on raising revenues, and less so on spending cuts. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

Christians who reach out to Muslims in interfaith efforts frequently do so with the best of intentions. Unfortunately, there's an old saying, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions."
Perhaps this is why Jesus warned his followers, "be wise as serpents and gentle as doves."
The story below (highlights added) illustrates the naivete that characterizes so much of Christian and Jewish interfaith outreach efforts to Muslims. The Muslim Public Affairs Council is a Muslim Brotherhood legacy organization with a history of making statements defending terrorists and terrorist organizations, as the article points out below.
If you or someone you know is aware of a church or synagogue involved in or considering interfaith outreach, please warn them about organizations and individuals connected to the Muslim Brotherhood. Such efforts are typically exploited by Muslim Brotherhood organizations and individuals as a means to mislead and desensitize the uninformed and the well-intentioned, to provide a distraction from the real agenda of the Muslim Brotherhood-the insinuation of sharia law into our society.
Crossing the Interfaith Line: Islamists Take Advantage of Naive Christians
Rector Ed Bacon of the All Saints Episcopal Church, the location of MPAC's convention
The Muslim Public Affairs Council's choice of location for its 12th Annual Convention on December 15 is telling: The All Saints Episcopal Church of Pasadena, California. The group, founded by Muslim Brotherhood followers, says this is the "next step in its mission by crossing the interfaith line."
Yet again, the Islamists are taking advantage of naïve Christians with a desire to show off their tolerance.
The All Saints Episcopal Church of Pasadena started an Interfaith Study Group in 2007 with the Pasadena Jewish Temple and the Islamic Center of Southern California (ICSC), from which MPAC originated. The organization was founded as a branch of ICSC in 1986 and then became independent in 1988, though the two remain intertwined.
The ICSC is proud of its interfaith successes. For example, the First United Methodist Church of Santa Monica is allowing the ICSC to hold Friday prayers there every week.
The story of MPAC begins with Hassan and Maher Hathout, the former of whom died in 2009. The brothers became active with the Muslim Brotherhood at an early age, with Hassan Hathout saying that its founder, Hassan al-Banna, is "the person who most influenced my life" and that "centuries might roll over before a similar personality is produced."
Maher Hathout was arrested in Egypt, where the Muslim Brotherhood was banned, and released in 1968. Three years later, the brothers moved to Buffalo, New York, They then went to California to establish the ICSC in 1978.
Hassan Hathout says they sought to begin the "Islamic Movement" in the U.S., a term the Brotherhood uses to describe its ideology. In 1997, he predicted its success because "America needs Islam. If you look objectively, you will see that this current civilization harbors in its body the seeds of its own destruction."
The language is very similar to that of a 1991 U.S. Muslim Brotherhood strategy document where it defines its "work in America as a kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying Western civilization from within." Another U.S. Muslim Brotherhood document from 1989 from its Financial Committee refers to a person with the last name of Hathout as someone "in the field."
Maher Hathout has served as a senior adviser to MPAC since its beginning at the ICSC in 1986 and is still a spokesman for the mosque. The ICSC recommends the work of Sheikh Yousef al-Qaradawi, a senior Brotherhood cleric that supports terrorism, Hamas and preaches a strategy of "gradualism" towards implementing Sharia Law. It also suggests a book on Islamic law called Fiqh-us-Sunnah authored by Brotherhood member Sayyid Saabiq under the guidance of Hassan al-Banna.
In 1998, Maher Hathout defended Hezbollah as "legitimate," saying they are "fighting to liberate their land." He also entertains 9/11 conspiracy theories suggesting that the U.S. government is lying about the identities of the hijackers. The current President of MPAC, Salam al-Marayati, likewise said in 1999 that Hezbollah engages in "legitimate resistance." His immediate response to the 9/11 attacks were to point his finger at Israel.
MPAC's former Political Director, Mahdi Bray, used to lead the Muslim American Society's Freedom Foundation. The Muslim American Society is a Brotherhood front. Bray spoke in support of the Muslim Brotherhood in 2007 during a visit to Egypt. In March 2004, he condemned the killing of Hamas founder Ahmed Yassin as "state-sponsored terrorism." In 2000, Bray stood on stage as Abdurrahman Alamoudi, who later was convicted on terrorism-related charges, publicly praised Hamas and Hezbollah. He joined the crowd in their displays of approval.
MPAC's Policy and Programming Director, Edina Lekovic, was the editor of a Muslim student magazine in the 1990's called Al-Talib. In July 1999, it told Muslims to defend Osama Bin Laden when he's called a "terrorist" because he's a "freedom fighter."
By that time, Al-Qaeda had already declared war on the U.S. and bombed the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998. Al-Talib management also told readers to reject the "twentieth-century version of Islam in the West," an Islamist theme. Lekovic's name also appears on an issue of the magazine from May 1999 alleging that the Holocaust was exaggerated.
In 2003, MPAC stood against the labeling of Hamas, Hezbollah and Palestinian Islamic Jihad as terrorist organizations. In March 2009, demonstrators at an MPAC-sponsored rally chanted in support of Hamas and the elimination of Israel. A policy paper from 2010 titled Building Bridges to Strengthen America treats the Muslim Brotherhood favorably, calling it a "conservative" group that can help the U.S. combat terrorism.
MPAC's initial reaction to the recent fighting between Israel and Hamas was to accuse Israel of "assassination of Palestinian leaders, destruction of Gazan infrastructure and the gross killings of Palestinian civilians, including women and children." The statement did not condemn Hamas. Instead, it legitimized the terrorist group by saying Israel is guilty of the "greatest act of violence" and is responsible for the ongoing conflict.
On November 24, MPAC changed its tune a bit in a joint statement with the Abrahamic Faiths Peacemaking Initiative that called on both Israel and Hamas to end their attacks. It said, "There is no excuse for the indiscriminate firing of rockets onto civilians, nor terrorism."
MPAC explains that the holding of its convention at the All Saints Episcopal Church of Pasadena is a reflection of its focus on winning allies among other faiths. It boasts of establishing partnerships with the National Association of Evangelicals, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the Catholic Archdiocese, the African Methodist Episcopal Church, the Union of Reform Judaism and other faith groups.
MPAC and similar groups like the Islamic Society of North America have created an interfaith bloc willing to defend them against Rep. Michele Bachmann and other opponents.
If MPAC's convention is like past ones, Islamists will again be given a platform to rally Muslims to their cause, but this time, it won't be in a mosque or a hotel conference room. It'll be from a church pulpit.
No community programs at 'Ground Zero' mosque a year after the controversy
By ISABEL VINCENT and MELISSA KLEIN
December 9, 2012
It's all pray and no play.
The Islamic cultural center near Ground Zero that opened with great fanfare a year ago is now an empty space with no community programs.
And while the developers behind Park51 insisted for two years that the project was more than a mosque, it now appears to be just that. Dozens of worshipers gather at the site on Park Place Friday for prayer services - but that's the only activity in the building.
Gone are the Arabic classes, workshops in calligraphy, talks on the genealogy of Muslims in America, film screenings and art exhibits. The sole community event is a class in capoeira - an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines dance and music. The teacher of the twice-weekly class said she has five students.
"We are the only cultural program that is still there," said Luz Emma Canas Jesus, of Capoeira Mucurumim.
The Park51 Twitter feed was last updated in June, and its Web site lists no events. The Web site for the mosque, formally called Prayer Space, lists four services a day, and a handwritten note on the building's window also advertises a 4 a.m. service.
Park51 organizers repeatedly refused to answer questions about what happened to the programs offered last fall and spring. Sharif El-Gamal, the lead developer behind the project, ducked out the women's entrance for the prayer space and would not speak to a reporter.
Just two years ago, El-Gamal's grand plans for the site - a $100 million, 15-story community center and prayer space - generated worldwide controversy because of its proximity to the Ground Zero site.
"We knew exactly who we had to go get." Instead of an American political manager, put those words in the mouth of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, or Syrian dictator Bashar Assad, and you get to the heart of a very big question. The same sort of detailed, granular information used by political campaigns can be used against Iranian and Syrian people by their oppressors. To go get them.
Those born into the Modern Liberal era can truly believe that everything they ever really need to know they've known for longer than they can remember because, in the modern liberal era, there is simply no cost or consequence to them in being wrong.
A former Syrian general told PJM from an opposition base just outside the country that forces fighting the regime of Bashar al-Assad critically need Western assistance before the dictator unleashes a catastrophic, last-stand attack on scores of civilians.

Why We Are Afraid, A 1400 Year Secret, by Dr Bill Warner

Norway is Judenrein, So Who Cares
Norway is Judenrein, So Who Cares?
Earlier this year, the Norwegian newspaper Aftenpostenreported that the last Jews in Norway are leaving. (Judenrein is German for cleansed of Jews. Some debate whether there are a few hundred Jews are still remaining, but the problem is the same.)
It does not stop with Norway. Jews are leaving England, and Jew hatred is on the rise in France, Italy and the Netherlands. This is a huge problem that has arrived with the Islamic invasion of immigrants.
Who cares? Certainly not the Jews or the Christians of America. The progressives, secularists, the media or any other social group you can find, do not care. NO ONE CARES. And why is this news ignored? Because if you recognize the effect (persecution) then you must inquire about the cause of the persecution. Norway is filling up with Muslims. The cause of the recent build up of Jew hatred in Europe is Islam, and Jews and Christians do not want to touch Islam, except to bend a knee to Mohammed. This is not to say that Jews do not resist anti-Semitism, but it seems that they only attack it when it is from the Christians. Christian anti-Semitism drives Jews nuts and they will attack it with a fury.
Why is Christian anti-Semitism unacceptable and Islamic anti-Semitism ignored? Although Christians and Jews may differ in theology, they have achieved a social unity. Most Jews have reduced the Torah to: Be Nice. In the same way most Christians have reduced their scriptures down to the same two word mantra: Be Nice. In short, if you get angry with Christians, nothing is going to happen. They will apologize and it is over. It is socially acceptable, even encouraged, to attack Christians, but any criticism of Islam is bigotry and no one, particularly a Jew, wants to be a bigot.
George W. Bush did not end up hiding in a hole in the ground like Saddam Hussein, and Nicolas Sarkozy was not raped and slaughtered as Muammar Qaddafi was.
They were honored "for having distinguished themselves through superior conduct in the War on Terrorism," and each received a Grateful Nation Award from JINSA.
Another example of how emboldened the Muslim Brotherhood has become in the U.S. Their front group, the Muslim Public Affairs Council, is holding its annual convention in a church for the first time in its 25 year history.

North Korea announced on December 1 that, between December 10 and 22, it would again attempt to launch a "civilian satellite." The Unha-3 launch vehicle is the same as the Taepo Dong-2 (TD-2) intercontinental ballistic missile that North Korea previously test launched in 2006, 2009, and 2012. North Korea bragged in October that its missiles could "strike the U.S. mainland." The U.S. intelligence community assessed that Pyongyang might be able to threaten the continental U.S. with a nuclear-armed TD-2 by 2015.
The U.S. should respond firmly to yet another North Korean defiance of United Nations resolutions. Washington should lead the charge for more comprehensive international sanctions against Pyongyang as well as the banks, businesses, and countries that facilitate North Korean nuclear and missile proliferation. The U.S. should also work with its allies toward a comprehensive integrated missile defense network in Asia.
"The challenge of statesmanship is to have the vision to dream of a better, safer world and the courage, persistence and patience to turn that dream into a reality."
The deeper issues lurking behind the fiscal cliff debate is the crumbling edifice of liberalism. With Obamacare in place, the left has finished building its dream: a liberal welfare state. Yet that dream seems likely to turn into a nightmare. Without massive tax increases on the middle class, the welfare state is simply not affordable. "The foundation is falling out from beneath the building just as they have finished construction," observes Yuval Levin editor of National Affairs.
What do liberalism's troubles mean for the fiscal cliff debate and the prospects for a conservative agenda?
It's too early to begin selecting presidential candidates for 2016, but it's never too soon for politicians to display statesmanship. Even in the midst of the seemingly endless fiscal cliff talks, two top conservatives are doing just that, and demonstrating how the right should think and, more importantly, talk about poverty.
Steven Spielberg's latest movie, Lincoln, features the Great Emancipator negotiating, persuading and cajoling the House of Representatives to pass the 13th Amendment abolishing slavery. There has always been intense debate about the continued existence of slavery in early American history, precisely because it raises questions about this nation's dedication to liberty and human equality. The 13th Amendment was ratified in December 1865, years after the Constitution was written and enacted.
The question arises: If slavery was contrary to the principles of the American Founding, why wait so long to abolish it?
Obama's Jobs Council: 'State-Run Communism' Actually 'Works' Posted on December 11, 2012
Jeffrey Immelt, Chairman and CEO of General Electric and Chairman of the White House Council on Jobs and Competitiveness was interviewed by Charlie Rose on Bloomberg Television Monday evening. When asked about China, Immelt praised the Chinese and their centrally planned economy:
CHARLIE ROSE: China is changing. It may be being stabilized as we speak. What does that mean for China and what does it mean for the United States? Should it change expectations?
JEFF IMMELT: It is good for China. To a certain extent, Charlie, 11 percent is unsustainable. You end up getting too much stimulus or a misallocation of resources. They are much better off working on a more consumer-based economy, less dependent on exports. The one thing that actually works, state run communism a bit- may not be your cup of tea, but their government works.
What is going to happen to our 401 (k) accounts and IRA's after January 1? Will the retirement accounts which many Americans have sacrificed so much to accumulate be rolled over into federally issued and guaranteed bonds in order to prop up notoriously under-funded, union pension funds across the country? Getting an answer will prove to be daunting, especially as media attention seems focused on little but the impending "fiscal cliff."
Listening to a poignant, impromptu speech given by Linda from St. Lucie County during the Allen West recount makes clear just how hard she worked to raise three daughters on her own. It's a story which certainly puts a tear in the eye and an ounce of worry into the heart of many listeners. "I worked hard to save that money. We went without," she said, getting more emotional with each word. "Now, what's going to happen to 401 (ks)?" ... Continue Reading:Full steam ahead on theft of IRA's and 401k's by the DC ruling class
Destroying the sovereignty and freedom of United States citizens is well underway with a new doublespeak plan called Seven50, just another euphemism for Globalism through Regionalism. Flying under the radar, federal bureaucrats and alphabet agencies have joined with local politicians in 7 Florida counties in imposing The Sustainable Communities Initiative (SCI), a United Nations created plan which divests Americans of Constitutionally guaranteed liberty by introducing social collectivism. Vero Beach County Commissioner Bob Solari warns that the Sustainable Communities Initiative (SCI) being pushed by HUD, the EPA, and the USDOT is part of a culture which believes "government can never be too large," as the agencies have "borrowed" $150,000,000, to "reshape America." There is no better outcome that the Democrats could have hoped for than the demographic despair that has overtaken some sections of the conservative movement. While the Republican establishment prepares to accept Obama as the new FDR, the grass roots feels alienated and willing to write off the whole country.
Demographics is a serious issue, but it's not a done deal either. Countries are not static. America was created because a large number of Europeans moved to a place that had formerly been populated by the descendants of Siberian refugees crossing over the Bering Strait. I have often said that demographics kind is destiny, but it's a mathematical destiny. Change the numbers and you change the destiny.
Taking back America demographically is a matter of having enough children within a cultural structure that passes down the values of adults to the children, while focusing on limiting immigration as much as possible. This isn't an impossible task.

UN Takes Concrete Steps Toward Global Tax
Doha, Qatar

December 11, 2012
In Doha, Qatar, late Saturday, delegates attending the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) took concrete steps toward a new global treaty to address global warming that will transform the economic structure of the world with a new global tax. To be completed by 2015, the UN expects every nation to implement it by 2020, even though the globe has not warmed for the past 16 years.

US Intelligence: China's Economy Likely to Surpass US Within Two Decades MoneyNews/NewsMax.com
China's economy is likely to surpass the United States in less than two decades while Asia will overtake North America and Europe combined in global power by 2030, a U.S. intelligence report said on Monday.
Google's CEO Eric Schmidt is a big supporter of Barack Obama. Schmidt endorsed and campaigned for Obama in 2008. Contributions from Google's employees were the third largest source of campaign contributions for Obama's reelection effort. And there was even talk of Schmidt joining Obama's second term cabinet.
Given their close relationship, I urge President Obama to call out Google's tax avoidance practices as he continues making the case for raising taxes on small business owners to ensure that the well-off are paying their "fair share."
It was reported yesterday that Google has transferred about $10 billion to offshore accounts in Bermuda to avoid paying taxes. Where is Obama's outrage?
According to Businessweek, Google's $10 billion amounts to roughly 80% of the company's 2011 pre-tax profits. And get this: "Last year, Google reported a tax rate of just 3.2 percent on the profit it said was earned overseas." Google may be known as a tech company, but it evidently also has some of the world's best lawyers and accountants!
And there's more. We recently told you about the hypocrisy of Costco's CEO Jim Sinegal, another big Obama supporter. Sinegal is saving $4 million in taxes because his company is rushing a special dividend payment before the end of year, when higher tax rates kick in. As it turns out, Costo isn't the only liberally-led company that is rushing to dodge Obama's tax hikes.
The Washington Post, which endorsed Obama and sometimes reads like talking points written by staffers at the Democratic National Committee, has announced that instead of quarterly dividend payments next year, stockholders will receive all of 2013's dividends paid out in one lump sum on December 27th of this year!
And guess who happens to be one of the Post's biggest shareholders? Warren Buffett's investment company Berkshire Hathaway. As you know, Buffett has been clamoring for years for higher taxes. Presumably he will be donating his windfall to the IRS!
The Left's Anti-Freedom Agenda
With talks stalled on the fiscal cliff, Washington continues to be a mess partly because conservatives have so little power, controlling only the House of Representatives. But big things are happening in the states where Republicans have much more control.
For example, the Michigan legislature is expected to pass a right-to-work bill today. Thousands of union members and left-wing protestors are descending upon the Michigan capitol building today, threatening to make life miserable for legislators.
As we saw in Wisconsin, the unions can deliver on that promise. Some schools are closed today as teachers and staff abandon their jobs to join the demonstration. It has been reported that Lisa Fithian, a well-known anarchist active in the Occupy Wall Street movement and other violent protests, is involved too. As I write this, a union mob has attacked an Americans for Prosperity tent and destroyed it with people still inside.
Why the union violence? If Michigan enacts this reform, it will be the 24th right-to-work state. That means if you go to work at a company that has a union, you will not be forced to join the union. If the union gives its dues money to candidates and causes you don't support, in a right-to-work state you make that decision. In states that do not have right-to-work laws, you can't take certain jobs unless you join a union with which you may vehemently disagree.
It is a perfect example of the left's anti-freedom agenda. And big labor is also a primary booster of big government, which is bleeding many states and their taxpayers dry. By the way, in this supposed era of austerity, Barack Obama has hired on average 101 new federal employees every day since his inauguration nearly four years ago!
It is very encouraging to see states like Michigan and Wisconsin taking on the union bosses and their henchmen. It shows what can be done when Republicans control a majority of the branches of government, not just half of one.
Harry's Tribute To Hair
Time is running out for our leaders in Washington to reach a deal on the fiscal cliff. While everyone is focused on December 31st, Fox News reports that the logistics of getting a deal drafted into legislation, scored by the Congressional Budget Office and passed by both the GOP-led House of Representatives and the Democrat-controlled Senate mean that the real deadline to reach a deal is in fact much closer than the end of the year.
In that atmosphere, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid went to the Senate floor and delivered an impassioned speech. About the looming tax hikes? No. About the need for entitlement reform? No. About the Arab Spring? No.
Believe it or not, Harry Reid delivered a tribute to Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson's hair. If you're interested, here's what Reid said:
"One of the things we learn as little kids, and as we get older it's something we also must adhere to, and that's not to be envious. Envy isn't something that is becoming of a human being, especially an adult. But I think if the truth were known, many, many senators would be very envious, as I am, and I would even think the presiding officer, about that hair of Ben Nelson's.
"I mean, that is a mop of real hair! It's often that people call his office, e-mail his office, they believe he has a toupee. It's his hair! He'll pull it for you any time just to show that it's real. He has hair like a 15-year-old... And so, I have to acknowledge I am a little envious of his hair."
If I didn't know better, I would think the next thing we might hear from Reid is a marriage proposal to Nelson! After all, both gentlemen belong to the pro same-sex marriage Democrat Party.

HUFFINGTON POST PUBLISHES THREAT TO CONSERVATIVE WEBSITE
Writing in the Huffington Post, a senior fellow at a George Soros-funded radical think tank with close ties to the Democratic Party seemingly threatened the Discover The Networks website.
Discover The Networks, launched by former radical turned conservative David Horowitz, is a central database that maps out left-wing agendas, activists and causes.
A far-left think tank founded with input from President Obama is pushing a plan for private retail stores like Walmart to create a "new wage floor" that hikes workers' wages by at least 27 percent to $12.25 per hour.
The scheme is outlined in a new study published by Demos, a longtime partner of the disgraced ACORN activist group.
Unmentioned in the Demos study is that the "new wage floor" is modeled after another Demos plan for a "living wage" that devastated business when it was attempted in some cities in the 1990's as a pet project of ACORN.
Busted! University pays up for expelling Christian

You've heard the rumors and swirling allegations. Now, here's an in-depth report showing overwhelming evidence of vote fraud and abuse that played a major role in the outcome of the presidential race.
Jeffrey Anderson at the Weekly Standard reports on an Obamacare related scandal at Kathleen Sibelius' Department of HHS. According to Anderson's source, HHS will use a subsidiary of a private health care company to build and police the insurance exchanges at the heart of Obamacare. And that private health care company will be competing for business in these very exchanges.
Moreover, the person who ran the government entity that awarded the contract to the subsidiary has since accepted a position with a different subsidiary of the same parent company. And, in an attempt to hide this unseemly contract from public view until after the presidential election, HHS allegedly encouraged the company to hide the transaction from the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Here are the ugly detaiils, as reported by Anderson:
In January, HHS awarded Quality Software Services, Inc. (QSSI) what the Hill describes as "a large contract to build a federal data services hub to help run the complex federal health insurance exchange." At that time, the director of Obamacare's newly established Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight (CCIIO) - which the Hill describes as "the office tasked with crafting rules for the national exchange" - was Steve Larsen. Larsen had been the insurance commissioner for Maryland when Obama's HHS secretary, Kathleen Sebelius, was the insurance commissioner for Kansas, and the two are reportedly close. The CCIIO awarded the Obamacare exchange contract to QSSI while Larsen was the CCIIO's director, and he played a central role in planning the construction of the exchanges - although it's not known whether he made the decision to award the contract to QSSI or not.
Under the contract that it signed with HHS, QSSI's power would be substantial - as QSSI would shape, run, and affect companies' ability to compete to sell insurance through Obamacare's federal exchanges. The Hill writes, "A draft statement of work for the contract awarded to QSSI states the contractor should provide services necessary to acquire, certify and decertify health plans offered on a federal exchange." Moreover, "It stipulates the contractor should monitor agreements with health plans, ensure compliance with federal standards and" - somewhat strikingly - "take corrective action when necessary."
QSSI, apparently realizing what a valuable asset it had in the contract, started shopping itself around. Meanwhile, Larsen left the CCIIO and took a highly paid position with Optum, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group, in June. Sometime this summer, UnitedHealth Group bought QSSI.
The Hill writes that the "quiet nature of the transaction, which was not disclosed to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has fueled suspicion among industry insiders that UnitedHealth Group may be gaining an advantage for its subsidiary, UnitedHealthcare." The Hill adds, "One critic familiar with the business rivalries of the insurance industry compared UnitedHealth Group's purchase of QSSI to the New York Yankees hiring the American League's umpires." In other words, UnitedHealth Group, through QSSI, would be able to police the same field in which it would be a competitor.
In addition, QSSI would have access to valuable data. The Obama administration likes to compare Obamacare's prospective insurance exchanges to websites like Travelocity and Expedia, but the comparison is inapt. Travelocity and Expedia don't regulate airlines, stipulate the length of runways, or transfer money from younger passengers to older ones. In truth, Obamacare's federal exchanges will be an extremely complicated technical endeavor to set up and run, as (among other things) they would involve compiling massive amounts of risk-selection data on individual Americans. In addition to raising extraordinary privacy concerns, the data involved would be like gold to insurers. To quote my source, "If you can capture this data, you're going to win."
When HHS became aware of UnitedHealth Group's purchase of QSSI, it couldn't realistically void the contract, because the Obama administration was already too far behind in setting up the federal exchanges. To void the contract would mean delaying the exchanges' implementation by many more months. The Hill writes: "[G]iven how late the administration has been in issuing rules for the exchanges, it would be extremely difficult to void a key contract, find another company to perform the work and still meet the 2014 deadline."
Unwilling to void the contract, HHS instead went to work on setting up a firewall designed to block United-Health Group from gaining access to QSSI's data, presumably out of a desire to keep UnitedHealth Group from gaining an unfair advantage. Then, likely in concert with the White House - and to the chagrin of many HHS employees - Sebelius and other senior HHS officials decided that word could too easily get out about the firewall project. If it did, it would alert people to UnitedHealth Group's having gained a potentially huge competitive advantage - a political concern for the White House on the cusp of the election, especially in light of the crony capitalism charges that have plagued this administration. Therefore, HHS, under Sebelius's leadership, suspended work on the firewall and told United-Health Group not to alert the SEC to the purchase - as UnitedHealth Group was legally required to do within four days of the transaction - until after the election.
As Anderson notes, "the idea of funneling about $1 trillion (according to the Congressional Budget Office) over Obamacare's real first dozen years (2014-25) from American taxpayers, through Washington, to private insurance companies was always problematic." But on top of that, the administration will use a subsidiary of one of those insurance companies as an architect and policeman of the exchanges through which this taxpayer money will flow; has enabled the first head of the CCIIO to profit personally from the venture; and may have told a private company to violate federal securities law in order to aid Obama's reelection prospects.
Captured on video: Steven Crowder is assaulted by union thugs in Michigan. It will be interesting to see whether these goons are criminally prosecuted:
Earlier today, a Democratic legislator in Michigan promised that there would be "blood" if workers aren't forced to join unions (and thereby pay involuntary tribute to the Democratic Party) against their will. At this point, it is difficult to see any justification for the continued existence of unions. They have devastated Michigan's economy and more or less destroyed the city of Detroit. At the very least, they should not receive favored treatment under the antitrust laws, and when they function as nothing but a criminal conspiracy, they should be prosecuted as such.
Until today, Illinois was the only state that prohibited virtually all residents from carrying firearms, either openly or concealed, outside the home or other narrowly circumscribed locations. This morning a panel of the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the Illinois statute unconstitutional under two recent Supreme Court cases, District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008), and McDonald v. City of Chicago, 130 S. Ct. 3020 (2010). The 7th Circuit case, Moore, et al. v. Madigan, was decided on a 2-1 vote with Judge Richard Posner writing the majority opinion.
Here are a few excerpts that illustrate the court's logic:
The first sentence of the McDonald opinion states that "two years ago, in District of Columbia v. Heller, we held that the Second Amendment protects the right to keep and bear arms for the purpose of self-defense," McDonald v. City of Chicago, supra, 130 S. Ct. at 3026....
Heller repeatedly invokes a broader Second Amendment right than the right to have a gun in one's home, as when it says that the amendment "guarantee[s] the individual right to possess and carry weapons in case of confrontation." 554 U.S. at 592. Confrontations are not limited to the home. ...
The right to "bear" as distinct from the right to "keep" arms is unlikely to refer to the home. To speak of "bearing" arms within one's home would at all times have been an awkward usage. A right to bear arms thus implies a right to carry a loaded gun outside the home. ...
A blanket prohibition on carrying gun in public prevents a person from defending himself anywhere except inside his home; and so substantial a curtailment of the right of armed self-defense requires a greater showing of justification than merely that the public might benefit on balance from such a curtailment, though there is no proof it would. In contrast, when a state bans guns merely in particular places, such as public schools, a person can preserve an undiminished right of self-defense by not entering those places; since that's a lesser burden, the state doesn't need to prove so strong a need. Similarly, the state can prevail with less evidence when, as in Skoien, guns are forbidden to a class of persons who present a higher than average risk of misusing a gun.
Consistent with the rationale of Heller, the court reviewed the rights of Englishmen to keep and bear arms as of 1791, "the critical year for determining the amendment's historical meaning." The court gave Illinois' legislature 180 days to craft a new statute consistent with its opinion and with Heller.
Moore represents, I think, the most significant victory for gun rights since Heller.
Jim Geraghty provides a good discussion of the politics of the "fiscal cliff" negotiations. He asks two pertinent, and related, sets of questions. First:
Shouldn't House Republicans be in session, and holding votes, one after the other, on all of [the various plausible] options? Would that be doing more to add to the argument that they're taking actions to avert going over the fiscal cliff, and that Obama's the one being unreasonable and stubborn and refusing to compromise?
The answer in each instance is "yes." Whatever the outcome of the current fiscal cliff contest, there's likely to be a bad economic outcome and a vital debate about who is to blame for it. In that debate, the Republicans will need a paper trial establishing that they weren't simply holding out for tax breaks for the rich, but were proposing credible solutions, such as Bowles-Simpson, to deal with the debt cliff in a responsible way.
Converting good concepts into legislation that Republicans are united enough to pass is easier said than done. But it's exactly what House Republicans should be doing.
Geraghty's other question is: Does Anybody Besides Boehner Know What Boehner Is Doing?
The answer, from what I've been hearing, is: precious few know.
We have commented a number of times on President Obama's ignorance of American history. Sadly, however, the average American high school student is probably even less knowledgeable about our history than the president. Is the problem of historical amnesia unique to the United States? Apparently not. In the U.K., a new report recommends that "Schools should be free to drop trendy citizenship classes so pupils can learn more about British history."
It comes after a study last year found that HALF of 18 to 24-year-olds did not know that Nelson led the British to victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. A similar proportion were unaware the Romans built Hadrian's Wall.
An England in which Lord Nelson has been forgotten is no longer England. And how oblivious do you have to be to walk by Trafalgar Square and not wonder who the guy on the column is? There are reasons to believe that the human race has been getting dumber for some time, and I suspect the trend may be accelerating.
Our country's elected leaders are under a lot of pressure to broker a "grand bargain" on taxes and spending that both parties can agree on in order to avoid the "fiscal cliff."
But historically, grandiose deals conceived through compromise between the White House and Congress have been losers for conservatives.
Such agreements tend to produce higher taxes and higher spending with little or no deficit reduction. Congress and the President should dispel any visions of a "grand bargain" and focus on the task at hand: avoiding the fiscal cliff.
These deals, he adds, "have typically just yielded higher taxes, while the promised spending restraint (except in national defense) and deficit reduction have failed to materialize."
The Reagan, Bush and Clinton administrations all saw bipartisan deals that included tax increases and spending cuts in order to reduce the deficit. Ultimately these deals just led to larger government, as Knudsen cautions: "Even genuinely successful deficit reduction can lead to expanded government, allowing both parties to declare victory."
Knudsen recommends that Congress should prioritize a genuine solution to the fiscal cliff over a compromise for its own sake. Our leaders should draw from history, which should "give pause to advocates of a grand budget deal between the President and Congress-especially those who are seeking to limit the size and scope of government."
Ed Feulner has spent his entire career building and strengthening the conservative movement. He helped found Heritage in 1973 and has served as its president for the last 35 years.
During his tenure, Heritage has remained an enduring fixture for conservative ideas, growing from a small upstart organization to a permanent voice for principle in Washington. As he prepares to hand over Heritage's presidency to Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) in April, Feulner explains this success in an interview with the Wall Street Journal's Dan Henninger (link for subscribers only).
Heritage's success results in part from a continued optimism: a belief that America's best days are ahead of her, that conservative principles can prevail. Feulner explains that conservatives have faced reversals in the past and bounced back stronger. And whether conservatives' political fortunes are waxing or waning, Heritage has remained in the fight.
"We're in this thing for the long haul," Feulner tells Henninger.
In addition, Heritage thrives because of its commitment to factual research to complement its principled policy proposals, Feulner argues.
Moreover, Heritage's decision to establish a broad membership base-now numbering in the hundreds of thousands-allows the organization both financial security and the ability to remain independent of any one supporter. Click here to read an excerpt of Feulner's article.
Heritage Foundation members Ron and Chenza Lazof are stalwart proponents of low taxes, limited spending and a vibrant free market. The Dallas couple began supporting Heritage in 2010, but like many of our members they wanted to do more to advance their conservative principles. With the help of Heritage's planned giving office, that's exactly what they were able to do.
As the director of Heritage's Center for Data Analysis, Bill Beach has been named the first Lazof Family Fellow. The CDA uses social science databases and sophisticated models to accurately measure and predict the consequences of policies in areas like taxes, welfare and entitlements.
The defeat last week of the UN disabilities treaty was a win for sovereignty. It was made possible in no small part by the work of Heritage Foundation expert Steve Groves and our sister organization, Heritage Action for America.
Groves testified before Congress on this treaty and was instrumental in educating lawmakers on the dangers it poses. The disabilities treaty is essentially a replica of a law already existence in the U.S. Ratifying this treaty and subjecting our sovereignty to international bureaucrats would therefore have been pointless.
The news that Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) will succeed Ed Feulner as Heritage's President hit the front pages of news websites like the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Politico, the Hill, the New York Time, CNN, Fox News and Time, often appearing "above the fold." Print editions of leading and local newspapers alike also ran the story prominently: both the New York Times and Washington Post ran the story on their front pages. A comprehensive list of media hits is here.
U.S. students lag in math and science education, according to new studies. American fourth graders rank 11th in the world in math, with students from Taiwan and Singapore ranking as the top performers.
This is the week that Michigan's workers will finally be freed from forced unionization.
After decades of United Auto Workers control over the struggling American auto industry, the Michigan legislature's passing of a right-to-work law is historic. Governor Rick Snyder (R) is expected to sign the law as early as tomorrow.
Regardless of news reports, the people of Michigan are behind this. A recent poll showed that 51 percent of Michigan voters support right-to-work. Only 41 percent are opposed. In fact, 40 percent of union households supported it. In November, Michigan voters rejected a ballot proposal that would have amended the state constitution to prevent the legislature from passing a right-to-work law and elevated union contracts above state law. The New York Times called it "a test case on enshrining the rights of unions," and unions spent more than $23 million campaigning for the initiative. It lost by 15 points.
They're still campaigning. Yesterday, President Obama campaigned for the labor movement in Detroit by making false claims about the law:
What we shouldn't be doing is trying to take away your rights to bargain for better wages and working conditions. We shouldn't be doing that. These so-called "right to work" laws, they don't have to do with economics; they have everything to do with politics. What they're really talking about is giving you the right to work for less money.
Those are strong words. They would be even stronger if they were true. As Heritage labor expert James Sherk explains:
Right-to-work laws prevent unions from imposing mandatory fees, giving employees the right to work without paying union dues. Otherwise, right-to-work has no effect on collective bargaining. All other negotiations continue as before.
Of course, the unions have a lot to lose. Sherk points out that "Polling shows a quarter of Michigan's government employees would opt out of unions under a right-to-work law. Losing those members would cost Michigan's unions more than $100 million annually."
When workers are freed from forced unionization, many of them opt out. They have left unions in droves in Wisconsin, Idaho, and Oklahoma.
What Do Workers Gain?
But workers have so much to gain: Right-to-work would let Michigan's workers keep that $100 million for themselves and their families. And making union dues voluntary makes union organizers less aggressive-they get less financial benefit from organizing new firms, because they cannot force workers to pay them. Union organizing attempts drop 40 percent to 50 percent after states pass a right-to-work law. That in turn attracts business investment. Employers want to know unions will leave them alone if they treat their workers well. As a result, right-to-work states have lower unemployment rates-and more manufacturing jobs.
If you step back and look at it, we're losing a major competitive advantage.
Indiana has become a right to work state. I've looked at their pipeline, and they've significantly increased the number of businesses looking to come to Indiana and grow in Indiana due to this legislation.
...It's about being pro-worker. It's about hard-working Michiganders having the freedom to choose who they associate with....The workers should have the ultimate decision should they belong or not.
...It's about the right thing for hard-working Michigan workers, and it's the right thing for our economic growth.
As Sherk puts it, "Why should workers have to pay into a union for representation they don't want? Workers should have the freedom to decide how they spend their pay."
Humbug! Three companies lose rank on AFA's 'Naughty or Nice' list
December 11, 2012
As you finish up your Christmas shopping, three companies have noticeably reduced their use of "Christmas" in newspaper advertising and on their websites from past years.
After carefully reviewing L.L.Bean, True Value and Sam's Club, the AFA Naughty or Nice list has downgraded them from being "For" Christmas to "Marginalized."
L.L.Bean L.L.Bean told AFA it would increase its use of "Christmas" in advertising, but after two weeks, we haven't seen it. Instead, it continues to reference its "Holiday Gift Shop" for those "holi-daily deals" that includes a "holiday" delivery schedule. Ironically, L.L.Bean touts a "Christmas" catalog, but you won't find "Christmas" anywhere but on the cover. Throughout the catalog, everything is "holiday."
True Value Hardware Stores True Value's website offers "holiday" coupons, "holiday" gifts, "holiday" decorating and "holiday" lights when you "Shop the Holidays." There are very few references to "Christmas," but the overall theme is dominantly focused on using "holiday."
Sam's Clubs Sam's Clubs website homepage reminds you to check out their "Holiday Entertaining Catalog" for those "Perfect Holiday Values." Sam's Club is owned by Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is listed on our list as a top promoter of Christmas, but the Sam's Club subsidiary is the company's Scrooge and is hoarding the word "Christmas" from the shopping public.
The Winter of Conservative Discontent By Patrick J. Buchanan The bedrock values of Reagan - work, family, faith - still hold an appeal for tens of millions. But the faith of our fathers is dying, the family is crumbling, and work is less desirable when the social welfare state offers a cushioned existence for life. Conservatives need to rediscover what they wish to conserve and how to do it when the country seeks an alternative to our unsustainable economic course.
Our Government-Created Financial Crisis By Walter E. Williams Suppose you saw a building on fire. Would you seek counsel from the arsonist who set it ablaze for advice on how to put it out? But that's precisely what we've done: turned to the people who created our fiscal crisis to fix it.

Joe Scarborough's jealousy gets ugly
MSNBC's token "conservative" (pre-S.E. Cupp) Joe Scarborough had a few choice words for conservative talk radio hosts yesterday morning. It seems the failed talk radio host finds them to be "bullies" that should be "punched in the face". Listen to Scarborough's ridiculous statement and Glenn's EPIC response HERE.
Glenn reviews The Hobbit: Last night, Glenn attended a press screening of the new movie from Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson, The Hobbit. Much of the buzz around the film has focused on a new filming technique where the film has a higher frame rate. Some have panned the move for giving the film a hyper-realistic feel and claiming it looks like a daytime soap opera, but others have claimed it's an innovative new technology that totally changes film. What did Glenn think?
