UK Doctor's Horrifying Admission Reveals How Sick & Disabled Babies Are Put on 'Death Pathways', Deprived of Food & Fluid for 10 Days
Sick children and even disabled newborn babies, are reportedly being discharged from NHS hospitals in England only to die slowly at home or in hospices in an unfathomable manner. The innocent children are being put on controversial "death pathways," once only thought to have involved elderly and terminally ill adult patients.
The Liverpool Care Pathway (LCP), an organization that facilitates end-of-life treatment, is behind the inhumane program. The Daily Mail has learned the process of "withdrawing food and fluid by tube is being used on young patients as well as severely disabled newborn babies." In other words, patients - young and old - are slowly starved and dehydrated to death.

Urge your senator to vote "No" on dangerous UN treaty on disabled persons
November 30, 2012
The United States Senate will vote next Tuesday on a United Nations treaty that represents a grave threat to U.S. sovereignty, parental rights and the well-being of disabled children.
The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) sounds innocuous, but it would authorize bureaucrats rather than parents to decide what is best for all children with disabilities.
As former Senator Rick Santorum said, "In America, that is the parents' job, certainly not the government's."
There is an additional provision in this treaty that would require disabled persons to receive "reproductive health" services. This could grant the UN the ability to force America to provide abortions or sterilization to the disabled at taxpayer expense.
This dangerous bill can be stopped if just 34 senators can be found to oppose it. Your senators are getting enormous pressure from the big government, pro-choice crowd to vote for this bill, so it is critical that they hear from you today.
TAKE ACTION
Contact your two senators TODAY and urge them to vote "NO" on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

Dear Members and Friends,
If you have not yet done so, please call the Capitol Switchboard (Monday) at
202.224.3121 or 202.225.3121 and ask the operator to connect you to your US Congressman/woman and US Senators. Please tell them not to raise taxes--especially individual tax rates. (See press release below, sent out this morning.)
Also, contact House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Ask them to hold the line on taxes during the so-called 'Fiscal Cliff' negotiations.
As Republicans control the House of Representatives, there is no reason President Obama should have his way on tax increases. Because the Bush tax cuts are set to expire at the end of the year, the House must, once again, pass a bill to extend the cuts. (Any major tax increase, at this time, could be devastating to the economy.)
While the US Senate and President will oppose the extension, it is the right thing to do.
Also, please ask your Congressional Representatives to defund ObamaCare at every opportunity.
On behalf of the Association Board,
Teri Adams
PS In the last PAC email, the word 'succession' was accidently use instead of 'secession.' The mistake was caught before the email was sent--but not corrected. Sorry for any confusion.

TEA Party Opposes Obama Tax Increase; Says President Not Re-elected Due to Failed Economic Policies; Asks, "Where Are the Spending Cuts?"
Philadelphia, PA (November 30, 2012) -- The Independence Hall Tea Party Association, the largest independent Tea Party group in the tri-state region, is reminding President Obama today, on his visit to Hatfield, PA, that he was not recently re-elected due to faith in his economic policies.
"While the official unemployment rate still hovers around 8%, and the actual rate is closer to 15%, President Obama's proposed tax increases will hurt small business owners," said Teri Adams, President of the Independence Hall Tea Party Association.
"Instead of trying to grow the economy and expand the tax base, he wants to penalize small business owners--the very folks who are most likely to create new jobs.
"Election day exit polls clearly show Americans were divided on the President's economic policies--with a majority saying the nation was headed in the wrong direction.
"Of the 59% of voters who said their number one concern was the economy, Romney won 51-47%.
http://mobile.nationaljournal.com/columns/cook-report/the-one-pollster-republicans-should-listen-to-2012112
"If the President is really interested in preventing our nation from falling off a fiscal cliff, why is he not also proposing spending cuts?
"We would suggest the President doesn't really care about the nation's $16 trillion debt."

November 30, 2012, 7 PM
Dear Members and Friends,
Of our soldiers, President Calvin Coolidge once said, "The nation which forgets its defenders will be itself forgotten."
During the holiday season, we invite you to remember our troops by participating in the Wreaths Across America Project (details coming soon) and our Help-A-Vet Money Drop for two local charities (details below).
The following press release describes a low cost bill recenty introduced by Senator Pat Toomey to assist veterans in need.
SEN. TOOMEY INTRODUCES BILL TO HELP CLOTHE
HOMELESS AND NEEDY VETERANS
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Wesnesday, November 28, 2012) - U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) introduced a bill (S. 3640) today to require the Transportation Administration to work with the Veterans Affairs Department and local charities to distribute unclaimed clothing left at airport security checkpoints to homeless and needy veterans and their families.
The House of Representatives passed a companion bill (H.R. 6328) Tuesday by voice vote. U.S. Representative Kathy Hochul (D-N.Y.) introduced the House bill.
"Thousands of pieces of clothing are left unclaimed at airport security checkpoints - clothing that could be put to good use. The Clothe a Homeless Hero Act helps our heroes by giving unclaimed clothing to those most in need," Sen. Toomey said. "I thank Rep. Hochul for her leadership on this issue, and I urge my Senate colleagues to join me in supporting this bipartisan, common-sense measure to help our veterans and their families."
"As cold weather approaches across much of the country, we must provide for our nation's homeless veterans while we work to end homelessness for good. I am proud to partner with Sen. Toomey to advance my legislation to assist homeless heroes, which passed the House with the bipartisan support of my colleagues," Rep. Hochul said. "I urge the Senate to support Sen. Toomey's companion bill and to pass the Clothe a Homeless Hero Act without delay."
According to the Veterans Affairs Department, about 75,000 veterans are homeless on any given night, and about 20,000 veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have been homeless within the last five years.
Veterans advocates in Pennsylvania praised the legislation. "I support the continuing efforts of Sen. Toomey to promote bipartisan legislation such as the Clothe a Homeless Hero Act to improve the lives of those who have served our country," said Media, Pa., Mayor and retired Army First Lieutenant Bob McMahon (D).
"I believe that the Clothe a Homeless Hero Act is an important way to show support and thanks to the men and women who have served our country and protected democracy worldwide. I appreciate that items left unclaimed at security checkpoints will be used to benefit those who have served our country and earned our continued gratitude," said retired Army Second Lieutenant and Philadelphia City Councilman At-Large David Oh.
"By spearheading the effort to bring awareness to the issue of homelessness in the veterans community, we salute Sen. Toomey," said retired Army Specialist David Kamioner, executive director of the Philadelphia Veterans Comfort House.
"This act is a terrific example of how Congress can act effectively in a bipartisan way to address a critical need for our veterans - especially some of our most vulnerable veterans who live outdoors in the city. I hope every senator and member of Congress will add their full support behind this piece of legislation," said Edd Conboy, director of social services at Broad Street Ministry in Philadelphia and the director of the Council on Relationship's Operation Home & Healing in Philadelphia.
"I think this is a great idea. Items that can be used to help any veteran, but especially homeless veterans, are a huge help," said Ronald Conley, manager of the Allegheny County Veterans' Services Department.
###
Over the weekend, we will commence our own Help-A-Vet Money Drop to bundle donations for two local military related charities: The Homeless Veterans Project and Philadelphia Veterans Comfort House.
Association friend, Joe Eastman, volunteers for the Homeless Veterans
Project and Association friend, Chris Hill, works closely with the Philadelphia Veterans Comfort House.
We hope to raise at least $1000 for these fine charities.
If you would be willing to make a $5 or $10 donation towards our goal, we would be most appreciative. We will provide you with timely updates on our progress.

VALLEY FORGE PATRIOTS THURSDAY (not Friday), DECEMBER 13TH MEETING, 6PM Phoenixville Country Club IMPORTANT MEETING! UN Agenda 21 Please plan to be there. Put the date on your calendar now. - A "show and tell" with John Taylor who works with Tom Dewees, at the American Policy Center, a 15 year leader of exposing this UN scheme to take away your property rights and other American liberties, otherwise known as sustainable development.
Agenda 21 is the plan that is intended to take away the rights and liberties of all Americans. Currently, there is a big push to institute a global tax and make the UN the global IRS. If you think this is not possible, I challenge you to find out the real truth. The UN Agenda 21 plan is also to take away your gun rights, control the sea, space and air (global commons), have financial regulatory authority, a global economic council, and a world monetary board. But one of the worst things for us, is the plan to take away our right of property ownership and turn much of our country into uninhabited wastelands. No roads, no transportation, no population. If you think this is extreme and can't happen, you are wrong. This plan is so far down the road that we will have a very hard time stopping it. There are many counties and townships in our area that have already signed up and are involved, including the borough of West Chester. These communities and counties don't realize what they are signing up to support. The words they use are positive sounding, but the results are very ugly. Some municipalities in Maryland have fought and have won their way out of the program. Everyone needs to learn about this plot. Please personally invite your supervisors, the RCCC, commissioners, and other legislators. Do this now! Plan to greet them, sit with them and follow up with them. They are so involved with other issues that Agenda 21 seems far off and impossible. Aware citizens must help them learn the reality! We the People must defeat any treaty that promises to hand the UN global taxing powers or any other powers over our nation and our liberties! Please join the VFP and participate - join like-minded patriots and learn how we can help stop this assault on America! Free parking, food and drink available for purchase. |

Florida Family Association's webmaster American Family Online has produced the following remarkable product to protect children and adults from explicit material on cell phones and tablets.
( You can find more information please see http://mobilewebguard.com )
According to our research at AFO, the largest growing group of smart phone users is the 12-17 year old age group. Unfortunately, also according to research, the largest viewership of pornography from the Internet on smart phones is 12 to 17 year old children. The impact is catastrophic. Desensitization, failed relationships, abuse of women are the results, nothing good.
Although there are other so called parental control functions and filtered browser apps available, none give the protection and full functionality of MobileWebGuard. We are most proud of the intelligent content scanning and the lock down so that it cannot be easily removed or deactivated. A filter that can easily be removed or bypassed is a placebo and will do more harm than good if a parent thinks the phone is filtered and it is not.
This app works on most Android and Apple (iOS) devices including smart phones and tablets! These are the fastest growing segments in consumer technology and thus the most exposed to the dark side of the Internet. For peace of mind online, a parent must insure their child has a protected mobile device.

Yes, it's true: You can support ACT! for America-at no cost to you! An important message from Guy Rodgers, Executive Director
The next time you make an online purchase of almost anything, you could be helping ACT! for America-at no cost to you. Sound too good to be true? It isn't. All you have to do is sign up for "iGive"-a program that's been around since 1997. The concept is as powerful as it is simple.
Every time an iGive member makes an online purchase at over 1,000 brand-name stores, a percentage of that purchase is donated to that person's charity of choice.
|
And with the holidays just around the corner, you could be helping ACT! for America with every gift you buy! The concept isn't new. In the mid-1990s many supporters of non-profit organizations signed up with long distance telephone programs where a percentage of their bill was donated to their charity of choice. But our investigation of iGive has convinced us that this program has an ease of use and sophistication that we find remarkable.
- Imagine booking a hotel room on Orbitz-and having 1.6% of that purchase price donated to ACT! for America.
- Or buying an Xbox at Best Buy-and having 1.2% of the purchase price donated to ACT! for America.
|
The same goes for buying merchandise at Amazon, Bath and Body Works, Advance Auto Parts, Game Stop, Kmart, Home Depot, Holiday Inn, Old Navy, NASCAR Superstore, Overstock.com, Mattel, J.C. Penney, Office Max, QVC, Radio Shack, Shoe Carnival, Pottery Barn-and on and on the list goes.
|
In other words, every time you make a purchase of merchandise you would buy anyway, you would be financially supporting ACT! for America! All you have to do is log on below and follow the directions to create your account and download the iGive "button." (Note: downloading the "button" is key).
Get Started Here!
When I was first informed of iGive, I was skeptical. I've seen these ideas come and go. Often, they're too good to be true. Or there are all kinds of glitches and problems. So I spent hours researching. I looked at online customer reviews (which were very good). I read all of iGive's fine print, such as Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. I signed up and even emailed two tech support questions to see how good their tech support was.
And the more I dug, the more I liked what I saw. For instance, both of my tech support questions were responded to within 60 minutes. How often does THAT happen?
|
As you know from our Patriot Partner program, we're all about encouraging a lot of people to each do a little-to do something. When everyone does a little, together we accomplish a lot. So consider what could happen.
If just 1% of ACT! for America members each purchased just $400 in merchandise in 2013, from all the available outlets, and the average percentage donated to ACT! was 1.5%, the total amount donated back to ACT! for America would be... ...$15,000. That's a lot of money, wouldn't you agree? And if you were one of those ACT! for America members, it wouldn't cost you one thin dime to help ACT! for America receive $15,000. If this idea really caught on, and eventually 5% of our members made purchases with iGive, that $15,000 could explode to $50,000, $75,000 or more!
|
What's more, that 1.5% figure might be low. Many of the merchants offer percentage donations that are much higher. One printer inkjet company I looked at offered 13%! Every merchant website you visit tells you right at the top what percentage of your purchase price will be donated to ACT! for America. Just think what we could accomplish with an extra $15,000, $50,000 or $75,000 in our fight against radical Islam!
Get Started Here!
One of the things I most wanted to know was their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Check it out for yourself. I confirmed the terms with a company representative. And I like what I learned. As security-conscious as I am, I have no hesitation using the service-and I'm already doing so.
|
I know there are many people out there who would love to support ACT! for America, or give more than they're giving, but in these tough economic times they simply can't. Well, here's a way that everyone who believes in our mission can easily support what we're doing-at no cost to them. It doesn't get any better than that.
There are already chapter leaders who have signed up for the program, and the feedback I have been getting from them has been all positive. They love the idea and many of them are already using it.
|
So please, join me and these ACT! for America chapter leaders who are already signed up and using the iGive service. Yours for a safe and free America

AMERICAN JEWS AND CHRISTIAN EVANGELICALS: IRRECONCILABLE ENEMIES OR INEVITABLE ALLIES?
|
|
Michael Medved is a nationally syndicated radio talk show host and bestselling author. His daily show is heard by over 3.75 million people across the country. Born in Philadelphia, Michael won admission to Yale at age 16 as a National Merit Scholar. He majored in American History and graduated with honors, before attending Yale Law School, where his classmates included Bill and Hillary Clinton. Michael wrote his first bestseller at age 26 - "What Really Happened to the Class of '65?" - a skeptical reconsideration of the "counterculture" of the 1960's that became a weekly TV series on NBC.
Many American Jews distrust and even fear the rise of the evangelical Christianity. They see this religious movement as a threat to the survival of Judaism in the United States and to the continuance of a society that values pluralism and religious liberty. On the other hand increasing numbers of American Jews view evangelicals as natural allies, not just when it comes to support of Israel, but on a range of social issues here in the U.S. In this provocative presentation, Michael Medved will explain where Jews and Christians already agree, and where they can never agree, in their participation in the ongoing battles shaping American society.

The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq
Jul 18th, 2012
Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet, The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.
The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.
Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.
Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.
The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.
The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

Individuals sympathetic to the Muslim Brotherhood's sinister agenda have infiltrated the Obama Administration.
Brainwashed by the Muslim Students Association and then propelled in to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the David Horowitz Freedom Center tracks the path of Huma Abedin and other Muslim sympathizers who have navigated their way into positions of great influence in the Obama Administration. Everything is revealed in the explosive new Freedom Center pamphlet, "The Muslim Brotherhood in the Obama Administration," written by Frank Gaffney, national security expert who served as Assistant Secretary of Defense under Ronald Reagan.
The David Horowitz Freedom Center is committed to educating the public on the Muslim Brotherhood's sinister Agenda. That is why we are giving away this pamphlet for FREE.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization
Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.
The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. It also discusses how the agents of radicalization in the Nashville Muslim community have been aided by collaborators in the establishment media, politics and the so-called "interfaith" community.

Week Ending December 1, 2012
Gearing Up for the 2013 Legislative Session in YOUR State
We know you're probably busy with holiday shopping and watching your social calendar fill with parties, but there is something else on the horizon that True the Vote wants you to get ready for. Around the country interest groups and politicians are taking what they saw at the polls and are findings ways to change election laws. Some of these are a step in the right direction and others simply are not. Grassroots voices on these proposals can make a real difference in your state capital.
The True the Vote Newsletter and website will be offering tools to help you stay involved in this effort. Take the time today to get connected with federal legislation in play and find what is getting filed in your state as well.
Track bills in Congress
True the Vote Compels Harris County, Texas to Follow Up on Its NAACP Investigation The book has yet to be closed on the incident involving NAACP advocates allegedly violating loitering and electioneering laws in Texas during early voting. True the Vote-trained poll watchers offered sworn statements claiming that operatives for the interest group were hand-picking voters out of the line based on political preferences, dispersing goods and bullying poll workers. The NAACP defended their efforts to Harris County Clerk Stan Stanart in a letter as assisting the elderly and those waiting in long lines. Regardless of intent, these actions were considered illegal by Stanart when asked by Houston media.
In a letter this week True the Vote urged Stanart's office in a letter to complete its investigation and publicly share findings. TTV cautioned that "Disregarding state or federal laws for the sake of what might be considered 'good intentions' can set a dangerous precedent for future abuse."
Winning the War: Improving Election Integrity Measures Although long-term trends point to election integrity interests gaining ground, it's important to pay close attention to opportunities that improve our voting systems. One of the most innovative states with respect to election integrity measures, Kansas, continues to find new options for improvement. The Kansas Secretary of State's Office is pushing for legislation that would empower election officials to investigate, file and prosecute cases of voter fraud - much to the relief of over-burdened county attorneys. Improving our election systems is more than a full-time job. True the Vote commends the innovators dedicated to bringing our elections into the 21st century.
Texas Voter ID Update The Lone Star State's voter ID law is headed for the Supreme Court - but another case could decide its fate sooner. Shelby County, Alabama will make its case to the Supremes that Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) has long outlived its purpose. Section 5 requires a federal pre-clearance process for 16 states, should they wish to make any change to election laws. A federal court blocked Texas' law and delayed implementation of South Carolina's under Section 5. Bloomberg reported this week that the Department of Justice will focus on the Alabama challenge to the VRA and adjust its treatment of Texas based on the outcome. Get Involved with True The Vote Do you know if you're currently registered to vote? Need a voter ID? Have you moved or just recently come of age? True The Vote now offers new options on our website that gets you ready for Election Day. If anyone complains that abiding by our laws are too difficult - send them to True The Vote. |

RedState Morning Briefing
For December 3, 2012
1. GOP Between A Cliff And A Cave
Right now we have the best deal we are going to get: real spending cuts against the tax rates going back to the way they were during the Clinton years. The only real issue worth dealing with is indexing the Alternative Minimum Tax for inflation.
For the past two years they have done little to discomfit the ongoing criminal enterprise centered at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. More effort has been devoted by the Senate leadership to attacking Jim DeMint than to opposing the Obama regime. The White House has taken the measure of our Congressional leadership and found them wanting. Few worse fates can befall a political party than to be neither feared nor respected. That now is the lot of the GOP in Congress. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2. House Passes STEM Immigration Reform. Racialists Go Crazy. This week the House of Representatives made a positive move in reforming the US immigration process by passing the STEM Jobs Act sponsored by Lamar Smith (R-TX). This act does what our immigration policy should do: ensure a higher level of economic growth in the United States by encouraging the brightest and most talented students in the world to become permanent residents of the United States. It also reduces the wait for the families of the visa recipients to receive residency visas which is now at least two year . . . please click here for the rest of the post → 3. LNG and Natural Gas Exports: A Primer Natural gas exports? What seemed impossible a mere five years ago is becoming a reality. The shale gas revolution has blessed us with burgeoning domestic supply and historically low prices for gas relative to crude oil. Cheniere Energy (ticker symbol LNG) is among a small group of American companies planning the construction of facilities to export liquified natural gas (not coincidentally, also known as LNG). The technology is fascinating and the economic promise is compelling. But a political battle looms over expansion of gas exports. Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR), the presumptive new head of the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, has already declared his opposition to natural gas exports. There is also opposition from large industrial users of natural gas who fear rising prices for their fuel and feedstock. . . . please click here for the rest of the post → 4. Darrell Issa, the legislative machine vs Barack Obama's cowardice on Internet liberty Who's anti-science? We set up a bill to bring in more foreign scientist and engineers through the STEM Act, then pass the bill with virtually no Democrat support, and then get called 'racist.' Apparently science degrees are racist now, according to (frankly delusional) Democrats. And more by the ever-busy Darrell Issa: his Reddit outreach continues as he promotes his two-year legislative and regulatory moratorium in the IAMA act (even the name is a nod to that community). But, based on the linked article, they're looking for reasons to oppose. Left-'libertarians' are too much reflexive fanbois of unchecked state power, when Democrats get to have that power. But, we'll see. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

Infiltration: Rep. Louie Gohmert says a 'bunch of Muslim Brotherhood members' giving Obama administration 'advice'
By Shoebat Foundation on November 29, 2012
In a radio interview with Frank Gaffney, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), one of the five congressmen who sent five letters to five separate Inspectors General last June over concerns about Muslim Brotherhood infiltration, expressed that the Obama administration's decisions relative to the 'Arab Spring' were 'horrendous'.
Gohmert went on to say that the only way such decisions could have been mad was if 'a bunch of Muslim Brotherhood members (are) giving them (administration) advice'.

Palestine
is Jewish
51 member countries - the entire League of Nations [Today's UN] - unanimously declared on July 24, 1922:
"Whereas recognition has been given to the historical connection of the Jewish people with Palestine and to the grounds for reconstituting their national home in that country."
The 51 member countries of the League of Nations as of July 24, 1922:
Albania, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, British India, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Italy, Japan, Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes, Latvia, Liberia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Persia, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Republic of China, Romania, Siam, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Union of South Africa, United Kingdom, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
Palestine is Not a State, it is the Name of a Geographical Area.
Palestine is a name coined by the Romans around 135 CE from the name of a seagoing Aegean people who settled on the coast of Canaan in antiquity - the Philistines. The name was chosen to replace Judea, as a sign that Jewish sovereignty had been eradicated following the Jewish Revolts against Rome .
In the course of time, the Latin name Philistia was further bastardized into Palistina or Palestine. Palestine was never a sovereign independent Arab state belonging to any people, nor did a Palestinian people distinct from other Arabs appear during 1,300 years of Muslim hegemony in Palestine under Arab and Ottoman rule. Historically, before the Arabs fabricated the concept of Palestinian peoplehood as an exclusively Arab phenomenon, no such group existed. This is substantiated in countless official British Mandate-vintage documents that speak of the Jews and the Arabs of Palestine - not Jews and Palestinians.

IMPORTANT AND TIME-SENSITIVE LEGISLATIVE ACTION ALERT!
SAY "NO!" TO THE TRANSFER OF GUANTANAMO DETAINEES TO U.S. SOIL!!!!
http://www.capwiz.com/actforamerica/dbq/officials/
It has come to our attention that earlier this week Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA), Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, released a GAO report identifying federal prisons in the U.S. that the Obama Administration could use to house Guantanamo detainees. Although the report notes the Defense Department's serious security concerns about housing Guantanamo detainees in the U.S., the report provides a roadmap for the President to fulfill his January 20, 2009, executive order to bring detainees to the U.S. This would extend to these terrorists the same rights and privileges as American citizens. We cannot allow this to happen and we need your help NOW. The U.S. Congress must hear a loud "NO GUANTANAMO DETAINEES ON U.S. SOIL" from the American public. Not now. Not ever. We need your help, immediately!
*** Important Action Item *** Please take a moment to call your Members of Congress (House and Senate) TODAY. Politely, but firmly, let them know that you are VERY MUCH opposed to the transfer of Guantanamo Bay detainees to any facilities on U.S. soil! Further, please pass this request on to every person you know.
NOTE: If you need help locating your elected official, visit our Contact Congress page by clicking HERE. Type in your zip code where indicated to locate your U.S. legislators. Click on your Representative and you can then see his/her contact information, including the phone number of the Washington, DC office. If you know the name of your U.S. Representative, you also can call the Congressional Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask for that particular office. Again, please make your call NOW! Politely let your Representative know that you are VERY MUCH opposed to the transfer of Guantanamo Bay detainees to facilities on U.S. soil!!! (Be clear that you are a constituent!) Thank you for all that you do.
REMEMBER, YOUR VOICE COUNTS! IF EACH OF US DOES JUST A LITTLE, TOGETHER WE CAN ACCOMPLISH A LOT!

Bashar Assad's forces suffered strategic losses this week, and now they are facing a dearth of manpower. This means the Syrian regime is losing ground to an insurgency in which the most active and dynamic elements are those representing one or another form of Sunni Islamism.
The Drakes Bay Oyster Company and its 30 employees were forced out of business by the government and environmentalists. Sen. One of the contradictions of anti-white identity politics is, ironically, its unintended encouragement of white identity politics. I quote the British columnist Nick Cohen, writing here of racial tribalism in the UK: "If polite society stuffs British citizens into hermetically sealed boxes and labels them as the blacks or the Muslims, it is not so strange that people should decide to be the whites and vote accordingly."
I begrudge no one their right to organize and join a union if they so choose. But these poor schlubs are being led down a primrose path to unemployment if they think that a burger or pizza joint can stay in business long if the workers are earning $15 an hour. | | MORE FROM PJ MEDIA |

Obama's Insulting Fiscal Cliff Proposal Lauded as 'Strategic Move' |
|
by Warner Todd Huston
Today, for the first time, the United Nations will name Palestine a (non-member) "observer state" by first engaging in exactly the charge that they press against Israel: apartheid.
For kick-off day and the vote at the General Assembly, which is supposed to be all about mutual respect and coexistence, "Palestine" has teamed up with the "UN Division for Palestinian Rights" and UN officials to pack the Assembly hall with Palestine supporters while denying access to a prominent Jewish organization.

While self-flagellation may seem like a bizarre occurrence to most Westerners, the practice is somewhat common in Shia Islamic circles. The practice of beating oneself is generally not considered illegal if done for religious reasons; however, the presence of children is, to a degree, curious (however, again, not necessarily illegal). The video attached to this story was allegedly recorded at a mosque outside of St. Louis. We also include a strong warning for the graphic content shown HERE.

 | Benghazi Bimbo Susan Rice Has Ties to Iran |
When Obama rails against the 99% with Warren Buffett at his side crying that the wealthy should "pay their fair share," oddly the name Susan Rice doesn't come up. It's odd because Rice is the wealthiest staff member in the Executive Department, amassing in the neighborhood of forty million dollars. Where do these millions of dollars pour in from? You should take a look at her financial disclosure form. It's like reading War and Peace. She has an endless number of investments in companies throughout the world. But one of her soft spots is companies that do investments with Iranian companies, especially those that buy Iran's billions of barrels in crude oil. So the next time Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad vows to annihilate Israel with a nuclear bomb, you can thank Susan Rice.
Susan RICE acted/spoke at behalf of the State Department and or Obama. That much is a fact. She did and is still aiding in a Cover-up, that makes her dishonest, and she should NOT. be nominated for Sec of State.

American Patriots and Guns
All Patriots Are Obligated to Be Armed and Ready
By Mark Alexander · November 29, 2012
"The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered as the palladium of the liberties of a republic." --Joseph Story
On the most recent "Black Friday," the day after Thanksgiving, which has become the biggest commercial sales day of the year, despite the continuing economic decline, there were record sales in one notable product category: Guns.
According to Stephen Fischer, director of the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System, "NICS experienced its highest number of transactions processed since system inception [in 1998], with 154,873, which is nearly 20 percent over the 129,166 processed on Black Friday 2011." This year's total checks will undoubtedly beat last year's record of 16.4 million.
In fact, the top 10 record gun sales days have occurred since Barack Obama's election in 2008, and gun ownership has skyrocketed over the last four years. According to a worldwide survey conducted the year before Obama's election, though the United States had only 5% of the world's population, Americans owned 50% of the world's guns. Of course, unlike virtually every other nation, Americans are ensured the incontrovertible right to arm themselves.
The current estimate of legally and privately held guns in the U.S. is more than 250 million (the average gun-owning household having three guns).
With that as a backdrop, I was asked this week if Patriots have an obligation to arm themselves -- to be gun owners, and be proficient at the use of arms. I thought at first the question was rhetorical, but after some consideration, I realize that there are millions of grassroots Patriots who are NOT among the 60 million plus Patriots who are already law-abiding gun owners.
Apparently, the question needs to be addressed, as the answer may not be as obvious to some folks as it should be. By way of responding to this question, let me first briefly reiterate the historical and enduring case for gun ownership, which is as relevant today and tomorrow as it was at the dawn of our national founding.
There are two foundational tenets of Essential Liberty that all American Patriots must understand and embrace in order to sustain Liberty and extend it to the next generation.

OF FISCAL CLIFFS Here's how the game is played. No matter what happens with the fiscal cliff negotiations the Republicans will get blamed. There is no scenario, perhaps short of agreeing to Obama's proposal to give him the power to borrow unlimited amounts of money, raise taxes and do the same crap that got us into a sixteen trillion dollar hole to begin with, and then maybe appoint him king, that will change that. And even that brief moment of praise will last about six seconds. Republicans are playing into the hands of the enemy by emphasizing the fiscal cliff negotiations. There is very little to negotiate here. Obama, fresh off a stolen election, carved out over the bodies of hurricane victims, is daring Republicans to say no to him. And a dispirited Republican establishment is still feeling beaten and too willing to give in. There are two scenarios here. Either Obama is bluffing or he isn't. And it doesn't really matter which one is correct. The crisis is being exploited with nonsense about fixing the giant hole in the economy created by Obama, by raising taxes on the rich. Even though the tax hikes wouldn't even begin to cover a month of spending. The fiscal cliff is a strategic crisis weapon, but it's the wrong crisis for Republicans to focus on. The crisis here is spending, not the fiscal cliff. The crisis is the viability of Social Security. The crisis is in the personal things that people care about. The crisis is not how to find ways to let politicians spend more money.

Dec 01, 2012 05:13 am | Coach Collins
By Jim Emerson, staff writer
The latest cause-celeb of the American-hating liberals, Pfc. Bradley Manning's defense team is making a half-baked effort on a plea deal on lesser charges. In the deal Pfc. Manning will admit guilt for providing classified materials to the anti-secrecy group WikiLeaks. Manning is responsible for the largest leak of classified material in American History.
Why
The effort to plea to a minor charge is an attempt to dissuade prosecutors from perusing more serious charges against the alleged leaker. To help Manning avoid serving time, the defense team will most likely argue, that since he was mistreated during pre-trial lockup he shouldn't serve any more time. Once released, Manning will most likely commence a speaking tour of Leftist colleges and will be held up in academic circles as a national hero surpassing the Sainted Daniel Ellsberg. Two hundred years ago he would have been before a firing squad, in ... Continue Reading:Latest on Bradley Manning

Killing themselves off has kept Blacks and Hispanics from the numeric advantage the Left yearns for

One of the many persistent lies we hear from the Left is Whites are no longer the majority of America. Citing a US Census report the New York Times said the latest Census showed that just over 50% of Americans under 1 year old are non-White.
This was an example of the liberal media disregarding the truth to write a story that fits its narrative. The Census Bureau is not the definitive source of data about the race of babies born in America. That role is filled by National Center For Health Statistics (NCHS).
The NCHS reports something very different. It says 54.4% of babies born in the latest reporting period were non- Hispanic Whites. Moreover rather than slipping toward the tipping point that would cause delight in America's newsrooms, the trend of births since 2008 has been more White births than non-White births.
In the years from 2009 to 2011 Black ... Continue Reading:Killing themselves off has kept Blacks and Hispanics from the numeric advantage the Left yearns for

Bing Said City Workers Feel 'Entitled,' Says His Job Second Only To Obama's
November 29, 2012 4:20 PM

Detroit Mayor Dave BingDETROIT (CBS Detroit) Managing expectations is his day-to-day position against people who believe the mayor can solve all of Detroit's problems is the hardest thing he deals with every day.
That's according to an interview Detroit Mayor Dave Bing did with CNN where he talked about the community's deep problems and how he plans to solve them.
"We are in an environment , I think, of entitlement, we've got a lot of people who are city workers, who for years and years, 20, 30 years, think they are entitled to a job and all that comes with it," Bing said.
He added: "Nobody wants to go backwards, but in order for us to move this city forward we're going to have to take a step or two backwards - and then, I think, all of us have to participate in the pain that' s upon us right now."

6 Fixes to America's Fiscal Crisis
President Obama made his first offer to congressional Republicans yesterday in negotiations over the "fiscal cliff"-an economic catastrophe of tax hikes just a few weeks away. The White House's proposal? $1.6 trillion in tax increases, $50 billion in new stimulus spending, and a change that would make it easier to raise the debt limit-so that all this spending could continue. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) couldn't contain his laughter at these suggestions. One congressional aide said the offer "amounts to little more than reiterating the President's budget request-which failed to get a single vote in the House or Senate." Perhaps House Republicans could simply bring President Obama's latest proposal up for another vote to see if anything has changed. The "fiscal cliff" is man-made. Congress-primarily the liberal-led Senate-and the President built it themselves through their legislative decisions over the past four years, and then they turned away and tried not to look at it until after the election. Elected officials in Washington keep enacting short-term patches to keep the government running, which is not a real solution. We need to reform the programs that are causing the runaway spending and deficits today and in the years to come-the large, lumbering entitlement programs of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. >>> As a candidate in 2008, Barack Obama said he'd like to reform entitlements in his first term. We're still waiting. Watch the video. In a new paper, Heritage's J. D. Foster, Norman B. Ture Senior Fellow in the Economics of Fiscal Policy and Alison Acosta Fraser, director of the Thomas A. Roe Institute for Economic Policy Studies, point out that
Obama's tax hikes would reduce the rise in federal debt over the next 10 years by 15 percent. The President is silent about the other 85 percent. The numbers confirm that President Obama's tax hike demands are at best tangential to attaining a balanced budget.
The real issue is federal spending, and Foster and Fraser describe the bottom line this way:
When this year's kindergarteners enter college, just 13 years away, spending on these two programs [Social Security and Medicare] plus Medicaid and interest on the debt will devour all tax revenue.
To make meaningful changes to the nation's unsustainable budget policies, Foster and Fraser lay out four "simple, commonsense, and thoroughly vetted solutions" that already enjoy broad support across the political spectrum: 1. Raise the Social Security eligibility age to match increases in longevity. People are living longer, and entitlement programs need to be updated to reflect that fact.According to the Social Security actuaries, continuing to increase the eligibility age to 69 by the year 2034 and allowing it to rise more slowly thereafter to reflect gains in longevity could go a long way toward reducing Social Security's funding shortfall. While this would not reduce today's budget deficit, it would strengthen Social Security's finances and put it on a path toward sticking around in the future. 2. Correct the cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) in Social Security. The annual COLA benefit adjustment is determined today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Consumer Price Index (CPI). However, the CPI, an antiquated measure, generally overstates inflation, meaning that benefits are increased a bit too much each year to offset inflation. Again, according to the Social Security actuaries, using a more modern inflation measure would substantially reduce Social Security's shortfall over time. 3. Raise the Medicare eligibility age to agree with Social Security. Medicare has an eligibility age problem, but unlike Social Security, the Medicare eligibility age remains stuck at 65. An obvious solution is to wait five years and then slowly raise the eligibility age to align eventually with the Social Security eligibility age. While the short-term budgetary savings would be negligible, the long-term savings in Medicare would be profound. 4. Reduce the Medicare subsidy for upper-income beneficiaries. In 2012, the average Medicare beneficiary received a subsidy of about $5,000. Subsidizing Medicare benefits for low-income seniors-and perhaps for some middle-income seniors-makes sense, but upper-income seniors do not need and should not receive a $5,000 subsidy to buy Medicare health insurance. In addition to those reforms, Foster and Fraser list two bonus proposals that have not been considered as closely by lawmakers, but would be simple and effective: 5. Phase out Social Security benefits for upper-income retirees. As a nation, we need to ask whether today's working families should pay payroll taxes so that upper-income retirees can continue to receive their checks. In short, Social Security should be social insurance against poverty rather than a government-run pension scheme. 6. Consolidate Medicare's elements and collect a single higher premium. Medicare is actually three distinct components, referred to generally as Parts A, B, and D, reflecting the fact that Medicare was built up over many years. This antiquated structure is confusing and inefficient. An obvious reform is to consolidate the three distinct parts into a unified Medicare program, with a single premium, and then raise the premium to cover 35 percent of related program costs. Continuing to raise America's debt limit every few months is irresponsible and dangerous. And failing to address the budget deficits that give rise to this debt limit pressure every few months is equally irresponsible and dangerous. Raising taxes would weaken the economy, kill jobs, and hold down people's wages. This is not a "solution." Congress and the President should instead consider these serious fixes to the drivers of out-of-control government spending. All that's missing is for the President to take the lead, which is what Presidents are supposed to do.

The "fiscal cliff" is coming. It's a man-made disaster that's ready to explode. But what exactly does it entail?
The fiscal cliff is a combination of tax increases and spending cuts that start to take effect January 1. President Obama and Congress will need to act quickly to avoid at least some parts of the fiscal cliff.
Heritage Foundation experts Romina Boccia, James Sherk, and Katie Tubb offer more detail and specific recommendations on the four main parts of the fiscal cliff. Below is just one example of Heritage's solution to one of the main parts to the fiscal cliff.
Taxmageddon tax increases: Starting January 1, Americans will face a $494 billion tax increase, the highest ever in one year. The average American household would see its taxes rise by $4,100 in 2013 alone. Uncertainty about the law continues to hurt the economy as businesses and individuals are afraid to invest or hire.
Heritage Recommendation: Free the American people from uncertainty and economic devastation by extending the current tax rates. In addition, lawmakers should stop the new Obamacare taxes, especially the tax on non-wage income.
To read about Heritage's other solutions, click here.
How do you think Congress should deal with the fiscal cliff?
During a speech this week calling for tax increases on high earners, President Obama urged listeners to explain on Twitter the importance of not raising taxes on middle-income earners using the #My2K hashtag.
The Heritage Foundation immediately jumped into action and purchased a "promoted tweet" explaining why Warren Buffet is wrong to push for tax hikes on the wealthy. As Heritage's Rob Bluey explains, "So when millions of Twitter users began searching for the #my2k term, our ad was the first thing they saw."
This disrupted the administration's messaging and ensured millions were exposed to conservative ideas. Several major news outlets picked up on Heritage's Twitter efforts: the Wall Street Journal; the Atlantic; National Journal; Reuters; the Chicago Tribune; and PBS.
This is an example of Heritage's quick, creative and innovative ability to reach out to the general public and promote our principled conservative values. Heritage's Ericka Andersen told the Wall Street Journal that our success is "a matter of getting on the trends as they emerge, rather than getting on them too late."
Be sure to follow @Heritage on Twitter.
Back in July, President Obama said, "when I try something that doesn't work, then I don't try it again"
Yet the President continues to funnel taxpayer money to green energy companies that seem to fail month after month.
The Heritage Foundation's Elinor Renner and Rachael Slobodien compiled a list of 19 green energy companies that received a total of $2.6 billion of taxpayer money-and failed anyway. Click here for the full list.
The United States should rely on market forces and the private sector to provide Americans with affordable energy rather than mandates, regulations and subsidies ordered by government. Policymakers should focus on allowing new supplies to come to market, reducing enormous regulations and eliminating energy subsidies.
Do you think the government should fund green energy projects?

Beyond the Green Weenie
Posted: 30 Nov 2012 04:00 PM PST
(Steven Hayward) The Green Weenie Award is troublesome this week, because some kinds of environmental wackiness descend into a realm so sordid that it deserves something a lot worse than a Green Weenie. Like a jail sentence, for example.
The news media has always covered eco-terrorism as weakly as possible. The usual asymmetry can be observed. While every time an abortion clinic is bombed or vandalized, or an abortion doctor murdered, the media always convict mainline pro-life groups of guilt-by-association, but when the Earth Liberation Front or other eco-terrorist group burns a building or trashes a scientific research lab, mainstream environmental groups are seldom or never confronted for a high profile denunciation. Yesterday the Los Angeles Times reported the arrest of a long-time eco-terrorist fugitive, Rebecca Rubin, who was associated with several arsons conducted in the 1990s by the Earth Liberation Front. But I'm still waiting for the news feature that delves into the question of what inspired these folks to become eco-terrorists. What books did they read? Which individual thinkers influenced them? I suspect the possible answers are too uncomfortable, just as it turned out in the 1960s that people who joined the Weather Underground were inspired to do so by what they were learning in elite college classrooms. There has always been a lot of awkwardness about the fact that the thought of the Unabomber's famous manifesto had an uncanny resemblance to Al Gore's Earth in the Balance. (For more on this subject, see my long paper about Gore's essential Heideggerianism.) Then there's the story out of Belgium a few days before the election a month ago about the murder of an ExxonMobil executive that bears the marks of a professional hit. There hasn't been much follow up to this story, and I guess the police are being mum about it. Could it have been eco-terrorism? The Telegraph story does muse: "Like most oil majors, its operations attract the wrath of environmental activists." Stay tuned to this one. The reason to demand some heightened scrutiny of the connection between eco-terrorism and the environmental mainstream is that the so-called "mainstream" is amazingly casual about encouraging civil disobedience. My latest example of reckless and irresponsible advocacy in this manner comes not from the Sierra Club or other corrupt group, but from investor Jeremy Grantham, whose economic concerns I was just highlighting here a few days ago. While Grantham is a shrewd investor, it turns out he's a climate nutter. Last week in Nature magazine, Grantham advocates that climate campaigners prepare to "be arrested if necessary" in service of the cause. After opening with the caveat that "I am a specialist in investment bubbles, not climate science," Grantham goes off the rails: Younger scientists are obsessed by thoughts of tenure, so it is probably up to older, senior and retired scientists to do the heavy lifting. Be arrested if necessary. This is not only the crisis of your lives - it is also the crisis of our species' existence. I implore you to be brave.
 | Jeremy Grantham, climate nutter |
He's got this exactly backwards, of course. Younger, untenured scientists are terrified of defying the climate campaign, so climate skepticism is limited mostly to senior scientists near or at retirement, like Princeton's Freeman Dyson, or MIT's Richard Lindzen. But no matter; next time "eco-disobediance" elides into vandalism or violence, people should demand that this week's Green Weenie winner, Jeremy Grantham, if he's proud people are following his advice.

Inside Mitt Romney's polling numbers
Posted: 30 Nov 2012 08:02 AM PST
(Paul Mirengoff) I doubt that many of our readers want to look back at the election; more likely they have gotten beyond that defeat, as November draws to a close. But a few may find it worthwhile to read this piece by Noam Scheiber about Romney's internal polling numbers. The Romney campaign's polls, taken during the final weekend of the campaign, showed him pulling away in North Carolina, Virginia, and Florida, and trailing narrowly in Ohio. They also showed him ahead in New Hampshire and tied in Iowa. Thus, Team Romney could reasonably believe that if it "came from behind" in Ohio, Mitt would win. The Romney polling also provided reason to believe that Romney might came from behind in Ohio. His numbers had improved slightly over the weekend, suggesting that perhaps the momentum Romney lost due to the hurricane was returning. In sum, if one believed (as I did) that the undecided voters were going to break against the incumbent, as they normally have done, then it was plausible to believe (as I did) that the race was a toss-up that Romney might well win. But this leaves two questions. First, why were Team Romney's polls well off the mark in states like Florida, Virginia, Colorado, Iowa, and New Hampshire? The answer isn't clear. I'm told that New Hampshire, for some reason, was a difficult state to poll - it wasn't just Team Romney that had trouble predicting that state. Similarly, the Obama camp apparently over-estimated Romney's strength in Colorado. As for the rest, it may be that weekend polling (on which the Romney camp relied) is somewhat problematic. So too with polls taken just before the election, when, according to some, only die-hard partisans are willing to talk to pollsters. The Romney pollsters apparently were also misled by their finding that those most interested in the race strongly supported Romney. It turned out, of course, that Obama supporters who perhaps weren't hugely interested in the election nonetheless voted, at least in the important states. Second, the Romney camp reportedly was confident that Romney would win. Yet, its own polling did not support that confidence; instead it implied that the race was a toss-up. So where did the confidence come from. Perhaps it came from faith, including faith in the American people, or at least 53 percent of them.

"Behind the Music" of The Claremont Institute-An Exclusive Memoir and Preview
Posted: 30 Nov 2012 07:36 AM PST
(Steven Hayward) Today (Churchill's birthday, by no coincidence) our long-time friends at the Claremont Institute are launching a new video project entitled "The American Mind," hosted by Charles R. Kesler, editor of the Institute's indispensible journal, the Claremont Review of Books. The Institute kindly gave Power Line a preview and first crack at announcing its launch.
Is this just another think tank video venture? On the surface, it appears the answer would be Yes. But underneath, the deeper answer is No. (I can hear it now: There you go, making a Straussian joke right out of the box!) The American Mind will be different because . . . the Claremont Institute is different. It's always been something different from its peers, and remains so. And therein lies a tale. If this were really a Steve Kroft-voiced, VH1 "Behind the Music" look at the "Claremont Institute Project," it would have to be called something like "Graduate Students Gone Wild." Like "Behind the Music," you need to appreciate some background to get the whole story arc. And the story might start with the fact that the Claremont Institute emerged spontaneously from among a group of like-minded graduate students for the remarkable reason that the Claremont Graduate School's (CGS) Government department in the 1970s and 1980s was the most unsuccessful and incompetent graduate department in America.
Harry Jaffa
That's not literally true, of course; in fact, quite the opposite. It may have been the best department in the nation. I mean by that provocation that very few of the many conservatives who came to study government at CGS in those days went on to conventional academic jobs at colleges and universities. Most took up ambitious public careers of a different kind-in government, non-profit activism, media, and law. It is an astonishing cohort from that time, with some reaching very senior reaches in their respective fields. The few who did end up at universities generally arrived through circuitous routes. This outcome was not because of ideological bias against hiring conservatives, though. Most of us simply didn't want academic jobs, which is ordinarily the track for which graduate school exists. But if you're not going to go into academia, why bother getting a Ph.D., which seemingly has little use outside academia beyond helping to snag better tables at restaurants? What could possibly be happening in Claremont seminar rooms that dissuaded students from academic ambition?
Peter Schramm, Claremont's first president
The direct answer to this will perhaps seem naïve or ingenuous: one came from the day-to-day study of politics at Claremont with the sense that the political problems of our time are too serious and too urgent to be remedied with an academic career. We took seriously one of the many things Harry Jaffa told us in class: "If the dominant reputations of the future-in scholarship as in politics-do not differ from those of the present, it will be an ill time for the fate of freedom." To remain in the ivory tower, many of us concluded, was to fiddle while Rome burned. What to do, though? The immediate answer was to found two new organizations to help organize the words and deeds of this restive community of audacious grad students, one to reach the broader public by placing op-ed articles in underserved community and suburban newspapers (Public Research Syndicated) and a second to influence the intellectual world, The Claremont Institute for the Study of Statesmanship and Political Philosophy. (I've included photos of a few of the founders and leaders of the Institute nearby.)
Larry Arnn, Claremont's second president
While the roots of what became the Claremont Institute actually reach back to the late 1960s, it didn't take shape until the late 1970s, which was a time of rapid growth for conservative intellectual and activist organizations, most of them based in Washington. Even then Claremont stood out as something unusual and unique. The form of the Claremont Project cannot be understood without some reference to the substance and method of the thought behind it. If you think the Institute's full name is ungainly, you should take in the description of its purpose as expressed at the time: to promote "the scholarship of the politics of freedom." (Today the Institute has a more approachable mission statement: "to restore the principles of the American Founding to their rightful, preeminent authority in our national life.") Claremont Graduate School's history and government departments were academic outliers in those years in rejecting the dominant tendency toward methodological reductionism in the study of political life, which both trivializes political phenomena and deprecates actual political figures along with the high ideal of statesmanship itself. This heterodox outlook was true even among many of the liberals on the faculty, who, unlike most academic departments today, generally welcomed conservative students in their classrooms. In other words, this cohort of conservatives were less interested in bringing to the public square the practical arts of policy analysis, but rather the impractical-or at least rarely attainable-arts of statesmanship.
Tom Silver, Claremont's third president
Lots of people misunderstand Claremont chiefly as the Vatican of "West Coast Straussianism," which, in one crude and inadequate sentence, may be said to be the view that America represents the closest feasible achievement of the classical ideal of the best regime, and from which battle is brought to the decadent "East Coast Straussians," who supposedly view America as a wholly modern (and therefore defective and unfixable) modern regime. There is some substance to the intramural argument, which often manifested itself in fights between Harry Jaffa and . . . just about everyone. (As Bill Buckley famously wrote, "If you think it is hard to argue with Harry Jaffa, try agreeing with him. It is nearly impossible.") And although the contested issues are important, they are really something of a sideshow; the differences between the East-West camps tend to dissolve when attention turns to the battle with the common enemy on the Left.
Chris Flannery, co-founder and editor in chief
This broader commonality can be best understood in a comment Walter Berns made to me just a few months ago. Walter was rightly suspicious of me, knowing my Claremont background, when I arrived at AEI a decade ago, and he dealt with me warily at first.* But we became fast friends at AEI (it helped that we both like single malts), and he flattered me by becoming a fan of my work there. A few months back he expressed hope that I'd continue work like my Reagan books because, he said, "the proper method for the study of politics is biography." That puts the finger on exactly why the Claremont community was so different from most graduate courses of study in politics, and the approach behind which the differences over our understanding of the place of Hobbes and Locke in understanding America dissolve. Claremont was heavy on biography because that's the best way of illuminating the real problems of politics and the intersection of thought and action.
William B. Allen
So Jaffa's lectures on Churchill and writing on Lincoln found their complement with William B. Allen's teaching about why George Washington deserved to be taken much more seriously as a political giant. Leonard Levy-an old New Deal liberal-nonetheless thought Jefferson and Madison immensely important here and now, while Harold Rood illuminated strategy and intelligence by drawing from biographical details of Patton, Churchill, Mahan, Napoleon, and so forth. A little later Charles Kesler arrived, not merely a successor to Harry Jaffa but sort of a synthesis (fusion would have been the term once used) of Jaffa and Harvey Mansfield. In the tradition of Claremonsters before him, Kesler has shocked both liberals and some conservatives by arguing that Barack Obama's large ambitions for transformative statecraft need to be studied and taken seriously rather than reduced to just another form of personal fulfillment or patronage politics.
Harold Rood
There is something subversive about the Claremont Project to the broader conservative movement, though. The kind of political engagement Claremonsters embrace stands in contrast to the apolitical aloofness of libertarianism, the anti-political disdain of certain brands of traditional conservatism, and the compromising ambivalence of some aspects of neoconservatism. American conservatism-and its primary vessel, the Republican Party-have their grave defects and limitations, but the fate of the world depends on their health and success, so it is necessary to be part of the fight to make both more wise and effective. The Claremont Institute is about as remote from Washington as you can be and still be in the continental U.S., and while "Claremonsters" are not closely involved in the daily Beltway strategy sessions, when you survey the alumni of the Institute and its programs you find senior aides to Cabinet secretaries, Senators and Congressmen, and corporate CEOs. In his recent attack on Charles Kesler in the New York Times Book Review, Mark Lilla nonetheless described the Claremont Institute as "an increasingly influential research group," and the Claremont Review of Books as "one of the better conservative publications."
Current president Brian Kennedy (right) and some other guy
The media adjunct of the Claremont Institute, the aforementioned Public Research Syndicated, placed articles in more than 1,800 newspapers at its peak in the 1980s. I was its editor in chief for a time, in between classes and chasing girls. But PRS was ultimately absorbed into the Claremont Institute and scaled down as changes in the media world, and the rise of quality imitators, made its business model redundant and obsolete. Today changes in technology, obvious to everyone, make possible new media ventures like The American Mind video series. The name, as Charles explains in an introductory video, plainly harkens to Jefferson's famous letter to Richard Henry Lee, remarking that in writing the Declaration of Independence, he "intended [it] to be an expression of the American mind, and to give to that expression the proper tone and spirit called for by the occasion. All its authority rests then on the harmonizing sentiments of the day, whether expressed in conversation, in letters, printed essays, or in the elementary books of public right, as Aristotle, Cicero, Locke, Sidney, &c." (Note, by the way, two ancient and two modern authors, along with the suggestion that they can be "harmonized.") So the conversations that will compose the new series will not be the usual wandering interview format with smart thinkers or book authors. Charles Kesler will be pressing his discussants to apply their work to the possibilities of statesmanship in our time-a time of "mass effects," as Churchill called them, that make statesmanship difficult or impossible. I'll actually turn up in a future video as a guest host conversing with Charles about I Am the Change (since a host can't really interview himself). The first complete conversation is with Diana Schaub of Loyola University. (There's a brief and simple log-in you'll need to do first, but it's quick and painless.)
Current president Brian Kennedy
So have a look at The American Mind, and especially the short introductory video from Institute president Brian Kennedy. This only scratches the surface of what can be said about what I've called here the "Claremont Project." Perhaps I'll make this a new Power Line series, with future chapters about particular questions and a few old war stories, though come to think of it, that's kind of what I do here already. * Leonard Levy once told me a great story about the Jaffa-Berns feud, which ran hottest in the 1970s and 1980s. When the chairmanship of the Government department at Claremont came open, Levy wrote to Berns to inquire whether he'd be interested in the position. Berns wrote back: "Thank you very much for your consideration. But at the present time, 3,000 miles separate me from Harry Jaffa. I am not interested in diminishing that distance by a single inch."

Annals of Government Medicine

(Scott Johnson)
The Daily Mail reports on a worthy addition to our annals series:
Sick children are being discharged from NHS hospitals to die at home or in hospices on controversial "death pathways." Until now, end of life regime the Liverpool Care Pathway was thought to have involved only elderly and terminally-ill adults. But the Mail can reveal the practice of withdrawing food and fluid by tube is being used on young patients as well as severely disabled newborn babies. One doctor has admitted starving and dehydrating ten babies to death in the neonatal unit of one hospital alone. Writing in a leading medical journal, the physician revealed the process can take an average of ten days during which a baby becomes "smaller and shrunken." The LCP - on which 130,000 elderly and terminally-ill adult patients die each year - is now the subject of an independent inquiry ordered by ministers. The investigation, which will include child patients, will look at whether cash payments to hospitals to hit death pathway targets have influenced doctors' decisions. Medical critics of the LCP insist it is impossible to say when a patient will die and as a result the LCP death becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. They say it is a form of euthanasia, used to clear hospital beds and save the NHS money.
You can see why the concept of "death pathways" and "death pathway targets" is handy in a government-run system of health care. We have a lot to learn.

Meet the new nonmember observer state
Posted: 30 Nov 2012 05:43 AM PST
(Scott Johnson) The United Nations General Assembly voted 138-9 (with 41 abstentions) on Thursday to upgrade Palestine to a nonmember observer state of the United Nations. The New York Times story is here; the Washington Post story is here. The UN has posted an announcement here. From its new perch the Palestinian Authority will have a few more tools to harass the legitimate government of Israel, but you can see why UN members would want to encourage the creation of a Palestinian state. It is a model of kleptocratic and otherwise malign governance. Having blown through two self-granted extensions of his presidential term, Mahmoud Abbas is nearing the eighth year of his four-year term. Congratulations are in order. Salam Fayyad was appointed the Prime Minister of the PA by Abbas in 2007, but he has has yet to be confirmed as such by the Palestinian Legislative Council. The Times and others nevertheless refer to Fayyad as the PA's Prime Minister, and you can understand why that might be. Fayyad is a little easier to deal with than Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, the man from Hamas. Having waged a bloody civil war against Abbas's Fatah in the Gaza Strip, Hamas and Haniyeh exercise sole authority in that piece of the new state. When it comes to Palestinian statehood, the UN gets two for the price of one. It's an irresistible deal. Haniyeh is an active terrorist leader. Abbas has a storied terrorist past as Yasser Arafat's right-hand man and a continuing lack of punctilio about legal niceties. Neither one wields a shred of legitimate political authority. And the territories over which they rule lack the basic institutions of civil society. The countries opposing the action in the UN's General Assembly form a small club. Let it be noted that the members of this exclusive club are Canada, Czech Republic, Israel, Marshall Islands, Micronesia (Federated States of), Nauru, Palau, Panama, and the United States. The UN has posted the vote here. "Palestine" fits right in with several of the regimes that supported the elevation of its status at the United Nations. One thinks of the criminals who run Sudan, Cuba, North Korea and other shining lights of that body. Welcome to the asylum. UPDATE: On the question of the lack of institutions to support civil society on the West Bank, I cite Khaeld Abu Toameh: It would help immensely if hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists came to the West Bank and Gaza Strip to teach Palestinian children English and expose them to the benefits of democracy and Western values, such as equal justice under law, free speech and a free press, and financial transparency and accountability It would also help immensely if these activists came to the West Bank and Gaza Strip to offer advice on, and help in building, proper government institutions, and in combatting administrative and financial corruption. But as far as many of the pro-Palestinian activists in the West are concerned, the interests of the Palestinians are not as important as hating Israel.

Friday, November 30, 2012 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer Obama's Laughable Proposal Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner went to Capitol Hill yesterday to present Obama's plan for resolving the fiscal cliff. With just 31 days left until virtually every household in America is hit with massive tax increases, you would think Obama would send Geithner with a serious proposal to offer Republican leaders. He didn't. But don't take my word for it. Here's how Politico described it -- "Geithner's Fiscal Cliff Offer: Obama Wish List." Here's what the Washington Post wrote about Obama's "fresh demands:"
"The proposal, delivered to the Capitol by Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner ... satisfies Democrats' demands that negotiations begin on terms dictated by the newly-reelected president. The offer lacks any concessions to Republicans...After two weeks of talks between the White House and aides to House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio), it seemed to take Republicans by surprise."
Today Obama is campaigning in Pennsylvania to sell his demand for higher taxes. So much for the spirit of bi-partisan compromise. But why should anyone be surprised after the most negative campaign in history from an administration that has rammed through its radical agenda by any and every means possible? Here's what we know about Obama's uncompromising offer:
- Obama is insisting on $1.6 trillion in tax increases, twice what he campaigned on.
- Obama is also demanding $150 billion in new stimulus spending.
- Obama is demanding another $30 billion extension in unemployment benefits -- an admission that his economic policies have failed to create jobs and grow the economy.
- Obama is demanding that the death tax go back up to 45% on estates and family farms worth $3.5 million and more. Several influential Senate Democrats from farm states are opposed to that.
- And Obama is demanding that Congress permanently give up its authority over raising the debt ceiling. So he wants an unlimited credit card too!
Obama's offer was so ludicrous that Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said he "burst into laughter." He told talk show host Hugh Hewitt that Geithner "ought to be embarrassed." How Obama's numbers add up is a mystery. Raising income tax rates on the "wealthy" generates only about $800 billion. Raising the capital gains tax rate from 15% to 20% brings in an additional $240 billion. But where the additional $600 billion comes from is anyone's guess. Columnist Charles Krauthammer wrote: "Obama's audacious new gambit is not a serious proposal to solve our fiscal problems. It's a raw partisan maneuver..." Without "serious discretionary cuts, clearly spelled-out entitlement cuts, and real tax reform," Krauthammer is advising congressional Republicans to "give Obama the full Clinton." He wrote: "If Obama so loves those Clinton rates, Republicans should say: Then go over the cliff and have them all." I agree. Bingo! Want a glimpse of what liberalism looks like? Check out Detroit. Democrats have dominated Detroit for decades. The city last had a Republican mayor in 1962 -- 50 years ago! Like many states and localities, the city's public employee union is a major impediment to necessary reforms. During an interview yesterday, Mayor Dave Bing said, "We are in an environment, I think, of entitlement. We've got a lot of people who are city workers, who for years and years, 20, 30 years, think they are entitled to a [government] job and all that comes with it." The left always cloaks its demand for higher taxes and bigger government in the name of "compassion." But where is the compassion for the taxpayers and entrepreneurs who are shouldering an increasing burden for bigger and bigger government? Not surprisingly, Detroit is shrinking, and is literally turning out the lights as taxpayers flee. And The Hypocrisy Award Goes To... When it comes to finding winners for hypocrisy awards, Washington politicians are always frontrunners, followed closely by Hollywood and media elites. But today's hypocrisy award goes to a corporate executive. Now, I'm a fan of free enterprise. But I have never understood the corporate chieftains who back liberal policies and candidates. If I could, I would gladly raise only their taxes! So let's consider today's winner -- Costco CEO Jim Sinegal. You may recall that Mr. Sinegal gave a prime-time speech at the Democrat National Convention this year. Presumably, he's all in for Obama's tax increases, right? Well, it doesn't appear that way. This week Costco announced that it was giving shareholders a special dividend of $7 a share at a total cost of $3 billion. Costco is in such a hurry to rush this dividend out the door by the end of the year that it is actually borrowing the cash to make it happen. Why the rush? Dividends are currently taxed at 15%. But new tax rates as high as 43.4% on dividends will kick in starting January 1st. Now get this: Mr. Sinegal owns two million Costco shares, and his wife owns nearly 85,000 shares. He stands to make at least $14 million from the dividend. After taxes, he'll keep about $12 million. But if he waited until next year, he'd get only $8 million. By cashing in this year, he's avoiding $4 million in higher Obama taxes. So much for "shared sacrifice." I think Joe Biden needs to have a talk with Mr. Sinegal about his "patriotic duty." U.N. Recognizes "Palestine" I want to debunk some misleading headlines resulting from yesterday's vote by the United Nation's General Assembly. Some have erroneously suggested that the U.N. created a Palestinian state. No, it didn't. The General Assembly has no authority to create a new state. The Security Council can do that, but the Security Council did not vote yesterday. U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice may have had difficulty getting it right on Benghazi, but she got it right yesterday when she said, "This resolution does not establish that Palestine is a state." All the General Assembly did was to make something called Palestine a "non-member observer." Not one thing in Gaza will change for the better for a single Palestinian as a result. The only way Palestine can become a state is if the Palestinians reach a negotiated deal with Israel. That isn't going to happen so long as Iran keeps pouring missiles into Gaza, which the Palestinians are firing into Israel. Meanwhile, Christians are being slaughtered by radical Muslims in Africa, while Muslims are slaughtering other Muslims in Syria. But the United Nations is obsessed with one thing: shrinking the world's only Jewish state.

The Summer Is Over, The Harvest Is Done And We Are Not Saved By Pat Caddell RightSideNews.com
I'm going to first of all say Michael Reagan saved me a lot of time by making the case about inclusion. He said what everyone should hear. And I want to remind you, one of the reasons that Ronald Reagan was so successful was because he had once been a Democrat. And he knew the people to whom he was speaking, and he knew how to speak to them. And as Michael said, he spoke to the ordinary man, a common man to that voice. And that is a quality that I think has been missing for a long time in the search for alternative candidates. Read The Full Story
