"It is the madness of folly, to expect mercy from those who have refused to do justice; and even mercy, where conquest is the object, is only a trick of war; the cunning of the fox is as murderous as the violence of the wolf."

Israel is being hanged on a public gallows erected on the grounds of the United Nations with yards of rope gleefully supplied by the Muslim world. But the hangmen are mostly Westerners who still think that the Muslim lynch mob at their doorstep can be pacified with the death of a single victim. There are three things you can do when you are about to be hanged. You can walk proudly, recite a glorious line or two to embed your martyrdom in historical memory, and then allow yourself to be hanged. Jews have an extensive body of experience with that brand of martyrdom.Alternatively you can plead your case all the way to the gallows, arguing that a mistake has been made, that your case has been improperly reviewed, begging for someone to listen and do something. This way also ends in a hanging. But it's the hanging of a slave without even a shred of dignity attached to it. A man that dies pleading with his murderers, and puts his fate in the honesty of the liars and hypocrites whose own crimes makes the worst of his look like virtues, is a craven fool.Because there is really only one thing you can do when the noose is being placed around your neck. Resist. A noose works by tightening around your neck and cutting off your air or breaking your neck. If you resist the tightening of the noose, you may actually survive. On the other hand if you follow through all the procedures, if you allow your hands to be tied behind your back, and the noose to be fastened around your neck while trusting in the system to do right by you-- your death is inevitable. For seventeen years Israel has been walking toward the gallows. Its leaders have led it there by the nose ring of international assurances. Its people have been led there by refusing to see what is waiting ahead for them, even while the blood was being cleaned off the streets. Every attempt to reach a peaceful solution, every concession and show of good faith, has only tightened the bonds around its hands and the noose around its neck. That is because every concession Israel has made, has further restricted not only its ability to defend itself, but even its ability to do basic things such as build residential housing in the capital of its own nation. Every gesture and agreement Israel has signed has bound it to ever more restrictive terms. And none of them have brought any peace. All they have ever done is set the bar higher for the next round of concessions demanded by the enemy and its aiders and abettors in the next phase of negotiations. This is not a peace process, and it has never been one. It is a public lynching.

Republicans Lead the Best-Run States in America, Democrats Dominate the Worst
The Blaze | by Glenn Hall | Posted on November 27, 2012 at 6:29pm
The annual Best and Worst Run States in America survey by 24/7 Wall St. came out today, revealing that the top 5 states are led by Republicans while the bottom five are dominated by Democrats.
The list is based on a review of data for financial health, standard of living and government services. While noting that current situations may stem from decisions made years ago and that external factors like weather can be as much to blame as poor governance, 24/7 Wall St. also points out that all of the high-ranking states have "well-managed budgets" and the worst states have "high debt relative to both income and expenditure."
Here's how it breaks down at the top and bottom of the list cross-referenced with details on party control based on this map from Americans for Tax Reform:

Is an Obscure U.N. Agency Plotting a Global Internet Coup?
The Blaze | Buck Sexton | Posted on November 27, 2012 at 6:00pm
Buck Sexton can be seen on TheBlaze TV weekdays at 7pm EST as a regular panelist on "Real News."
You've probably never heard of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), but as you are reading this on the Internet, it's a safe bet that its ambitious plan for Internet regulation will affect your daily life if enacted.
And unless you think Russia, China and Iran are going to be a constructive influence on the Internet, the ITU plan would be a disaster for economic and political freedom.
That's because the ITU believes the Internet needs a massive, unaccountable bureaucracy to manage the web- the most complex and evolving technological innovation in the world.

Stop Ratification of UN Treaty -- Possible This Week!
November 27, 2012
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced that he plans to bring the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) to the Senate floor sometime this week. The CRPD is another American sovereignty-threatening treaty, which President Obama signed on July 30, 2009, but has not yet been ratified by the Senate and for good reason!
We need you to tell your friends and neighbors about this new UN attempted power grab, and we need everyone to call and email your Senators, and urge them to vote against the CRPD treaty.
The American public cannot afford for this treaty to pass and allow the United Nations to implement more regulation that will have devastating effects on every American "person, organization, or private enterprise." Worse yet, people with disabilities deserve better! Addressing disabilities issues through an international bureaucracy undermines our ability to empower families and communities to serve disabled people's needs.
The CRPD Treaty would expand the already growing powers of the UN in the United States, undermining our national sovereignty. These new regulations are so complex that every American citizen will be impacted by the far-reaching consequences.
The CRPD Treaty will:
- Exceed the bounds of the Americans with Disabilities Act and eliminate any remaining state sovereignty on the issue of disability law.
- Demand that all American law on this subject conform to UN standards.
- Force "every person, organization, or private enterprise" to eliminate discrimination on the basis of disability. This imposes impossible burdens and expenses onto private citizens, as they can be held in violation of the treaty if their private property is not fully accessible to persons with disabilities, even if they do not know any persons with disabilities.
- Give the UN the power to determine the legitimacy and lawfulness of the United States' budgets to assess compliance with such treaties.
Before the Senate left for recess in September, our conservative ally, Utah Senator Mike Lee, obtained signatures from more than 34 of his Senate colleagues asking that no treaties be brought to the Senate floor during the Lame Duck session. The total has now risen to 36 Senators who have signed this letter. Below is the list of Senators who signed the letter. If your Senator(s) signed the letter, please thank them and urge them to stand strong!
Alabama Jeff Sessions Richard Shelby
Arizona John Kyl (John McCain had signed the letter but withdrew his name)
Arkansas John Boozman
Florida Marco Rubio
Georgia Johnny Isakson
Idaho Jim Risch Mike Crapo
Indiana Dan Coats
Iowa Chuck Grassley
Kansas Pat Roberts
Kentucky Rand Paul
Louisiana David Vitter
Massachusetts Scott Brown
Mississippi Thad Cochran Roger Wicker
Missouri Roy Blunt

Nevada Dean Heller
North Carolina Richard Burr
North Dakota John Hoeven
Ohio Rob Portman
Oklahoma Jim Inhofe Tom Coburn

VALLEY FORGE PATRIOTS THURSDAY (not Friday), DECEMBER 13TH MEETING, 6PM Phoenixville Country Club IMPORTANT MEETING! UN Agenda 21 Please plan to be there. Put the date on your calendar now. - A "show and tell" with John Taylor who works with Tom Dewees, at the American Policy Center, a 15 year leader of exposing this UN scheme to take away your property rights and other American liberties, otherwise known as sustainable development.
Agenda 21 is the plan that is intended to take away the rights and liberties of all Americans. Currently, there is a big push to institute a global tax and make the UN the global IRS. If you think this is not possible, I challenge you to find out the real truth. The UN Agenda 21 plan is also to take away your gun rights, control the sea, space and air (global commons), have financial regulatory authority, a global economic council, and a world monetary board. But one of the worst things for us, is the plan to take away our right of property ownership and turn much of our country into uninhabited wastelands. No roads, no transportation, no population. If you think this is extreme and can't happen, you are wrong. This plan is so far down the road that we will have a very hard time stopping it. There are many counties and townships in our area that have already signed up and are involved, including the borough of West Chester. These communities and counties don't realize what they are signing up to support. The words they use are positive sounding, but the results are very ugly. Some municipalities in Maryland have fought and have won their way out of the program. Everyone needs to learn about this plot. Please personally invite your supervisors, the RCCC, commissioners, and other legislators. Do this now! Plan to greet them, sit with them and follow up with them. They are so involved with other issues that Agenda 21 seems far off and impossible. Aware citizens must help them learn the reality! We the People must defeat any treaty that promises to hand the UN global taxing powers or any other powers over our nation and our liberties! Please join the VFP and participate - join like-minded patriots and learn how we can help stop this assault on America! Free parking, food and drink available for purchase. |

Florida Family Association's webmaster American Family Online has produced the following remarkable product to protect children and adults from explicit material on cell phones and tablets.
( You can find more information please see http://mobilewebguard.com )
According to our research at AFO, the largest growing group of smart phone users is the 12-17 year old age group. Unfortunately, also according to research, the largest viewership of pornography from the Internet on smart phones is 12 to 17 year old children. The impact is catastrophic. Desensitization, failed relationships, abuse of women are the results, nothing good.
Although there are other so called parental control functions and filtered browser apps available, none give the protection and full functionality of MobileWebGuard. We are most proud of the intelligent content scanning and the lock down so that it cannot be easily removed or deactivated. A filter that can easily be removed or bypassed is a placebo and will do more harm than good if a parent thinks the phone is filtered and it is not.
This app works on most Android and Apple (iOS) devices including smart phones and tablets! These are the fastest growing segments in consumer technology and thus the most exposed to the dark side of the Internet. For peace of mind online, a parent must insure their child has a protected mobile device.

Yes, it's true: You can support ACT! for America-at no cost to you! An important message from Guy Rodgers, Executive Director
The next time you make an online purchase of almost anything, you could be helping ACT! for America-at no cost to you. Sound too good to be true? It isn't. All you have to do is sign up for "iGive"-a program that's been around since 1997. The concept is as powerful as it is simple.
Every time an iGive member makes an online purchase at over 1,000 brand-name stores, a percentage of that purchase is donated to that person's charity of choice.
|
And with the holidays just around the corner, you could be helping ACT! for America with every gift you buy! The concept isn't new. In the mid-1990s many supporters of non-profit organizations signed up with long distance telephone programs where a percentage of their bill was donated to their charity of choice. But our investigation of iGive has convinced us that this program has an ease of use and sophistication that we find remarkable.
- Imagine booking a hotel room on Orbitz-and having 1.6% of that purchase price donated to ACT! for America.
- Or buying an Xbox at Best Buy-and having 1.2% of the purchase price donated to ACT! for America.
|
The same goes for buying merchandise at Amazon, Bath and Body Works, Advance Auto Parts, Game Stop, Kmart, Home Depot, Holiday Inn, Old Navy, NASCAR Superstore, Overstock.com, Mattel, J.C. Penney, Office Max, QVC, Radio Shack, Shoe Carnival, Pottery Barn-and on and on the list goes.
|
In other words, every time you make a purchase of merchandise you would buy anyway, you would be financially supporting ACT! for America! All you have to do is log on below and follow the directions to create your account and download the iGive "button." (Note: downloading the "button" is key).
Get Started Here!
When I was first informed of iGive, I was skeptical. I've seen these ideas come and go. Often, they're too good to be true. Or there are all kinds of glitches and problems. So I spent hours researching. I looked at online customer reviews (which were very good). I read all of iGive's fine print, such as Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. I signed up and even emailed two tech support questions to see how good their tech support was.
And the more I dug, the more I liked what I saw. For instance, both of my tech support questions were responded to within 60 minutes. How often does THAT happen?
|
As you know from our Patriot Partner program, we're all about encouraging a lot of people to each do a little-to do something. When everyone does a little, together we accomplish a lot. So consider what could happen.
If just 1% of ACT! for America members each purchased just $400 in merchandise in 2013, from all the available outlets, and the average percentage donated to ACT! was 1.5%, the total amount donated back to ACT! for America would be... ...$15,000. That's a lot of money, wouldn't you agree? And if you were one of those ACT! for America members, it wouldn't cost you one thin dime to help ACT! for America receive $15,000. If this idea really caught on, and eventually 5% of our members made purchases with iGive, that $15,000 could explode to $50,000, $75,000 or more!
|
What's more, that 1.5% figure might be low. Many of the merchants offer percentage donations that are much higher. One printer inkjet company I looked at offered 13%! Every merchant website you visit tells you right at the top what percentage of your purchase price will be donated to ACT! for America. Just think what we could accomplish with an extra $15,000, $50,000 or $75,000 in our fight against radical Islam!
Get Started Here!
One of the things I most wanted to know was their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Check it out for yourself. I confirmed the terms with a company representative. And I like what I learned. As security-conscious as I am, I have no hesitation using the service-and I'm already doing so.
|
I know there are many people out there who would love to support ACT! for America, or give more than they're giving, but in these tough economic times they simply can't. Well, here's a way that everyone who believes in our mission can easily support what we're doing-at no cost to them. It doesn't get any better than that.
There are already chapter leaders who have signed up for the program, and the feedback I have been getting from them has been all positive. They love the idea and many of them are already using it.
|
So please, join me and these ACT! for America chapter leaders who are already signed up and using the iGive service. Yours for a safe and free America

AMERICAN JEWS AND CHRISTIAN EVANGELICALS: IRRECONCILABLE ENEMIES OR INEVITABLE ALLIES?
|
|
Michael Medved is a nationally syndicated radio talk show host and bestselling author. His daily show is heard by over 3.75 million people across the country. Born in Philadelphia, Michael won admission to Yale at age 16 as a National Merit Scholar. He majored in American History and graduated with honors, before attending Yale Law School, where his classmates included Bill and Hillary Clinton. Michael wrote his first bestseller at age 26 - "What Really Happened to the Class of '65?" - a skeptical reconsideration of the "counterculture" of the 1960's that became a weekly TV series on NBC.
Many American Jews distrust and even fear the rise of the evangelical Christianity. They see this religious movement as a threat to the survival of Judaism in the United States and to the continuance of a society that values pluralism and religious liberty. On the other hand increasing numbers of American Jews view evangelicals as natural allies, not just when it comes to support of Israel, but on a range of social issues here in the U.S. In this provocative presentation, Michael Medved will explain where Jews and Christians already agree, and where they can never agree, in their participation in the ongoing battles shaping American society.

The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq
Jul 18th, 2012
Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet, The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.
The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.
Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.
Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.
The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.
The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

Individuals sympathetic to the Muslim Brotherhood's sinister agenda have infiltrated the Obama Administration.
Brainwashed by the Muslim Students Association and then propelled in to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the David Horowitz Freedom Center tracks the path of Huma Abedin and other Muslim sympathizers who have navigated their way into positions of great influence in the Obama Administration. Everything is revealed in the explosive new Freedom Center pamphlet, "The Muslim Brotherhood in the Obama Administration," written by Frank Gaffney, national security expert who served as Assistant Secretary of Defense under Ronald Reagan.
The David Horowitz Freedom Center is committed to educating the public on the Muslim Brotherhood's sinister Agenda. That is why we are giving away this pamphlet for FREE.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization
Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.
The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. It also discusses how the agents of radicalization in the Nashville Muslim community have been aided by collaborators in the establishment media, politics and the so-called "interfaith" community.

RedState Morning Briefing
For November 28, 2012
1. I'm Not Sure What Republicans Stand For in Congress
I was once an elected Republican. There isn't much that the Republican Party has to do with trash collection, but I was a Republican on the Macon, Georgia City Council and I supported trash collection privatization. It wasn't the Republican thing to do. It was the conservative thing to do. It was the right thing to do. Multiple times it had been tried and multiple times it had saved taxpayer dollars.
There aren't a lot of Republican positions at the local level. There aren't a lot of Democrat positions at the local level. There are conservative and liberal positions. There are positions that believe the private sector can do better and positions that believe the public sector can do better.
In Congress, there used to be clear and distinct Republican and Democrat positions. But in the past decade, about the only thing separating the GOP from the Democrats is the rate of spending. Republicans spend less, but they still spend a lot. Oh, and they love babies in utero.
Republicans used to believe in free enterprise, the private sector, and low taxes. They believed in getting government the heck out of the way. They still talk like that, but they don't seem to actually be operating like that. Senate and House Republicans seem to be in a bidding war to increase revenue in Washington. What's worse, they are mendacious enough to call it "increasing revenue" instead of "tax increases," when it amounts to the same thing. The Republican Party of John Boehner and Mitch McConnell have taken a party that once believed in starving the beast and transforming it into a party that believes in feeding the leviathan lest the leviathan consume them. They operate out of fear - fear of losing their remaining power, fear of blame, and fear of the unknown. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2. FLS: Screw Up, Lose, and Spin
On January 2, 2009, I wrote about FLS Connect. FLS Connect received over $1 million from the National Republican Campaign Committee in 2008. It was also, back then, the third largest recipient of expenditures from the Republican National Committee, netting around $30 million.
As I wrote then, "Rich Beeson is the Political Director of the RNC. Before going to the RNC (and after leaving the RNC I'm sure), Beeson was a partner at FLS." Beeson went on to be the Political Director for Mitt Romney in charge of the now famous ORCA program collapse.
But let's go back to what I wrote in 2009. Remember the much touted and beloved voter vault program? . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3. The Lost Irony in the Tax Debate
There is an uncanny irony that has emerged from the bowels of the tax fight - one that is lost in all the banal details of the pitched battle. Democrats have fallen in love with the Bush tax cuts, which they fought so vociferously to block in 2001 and 2003.
While the Democrats are demanding that we raise taxes on the rich, they are stridently demanding that we extend the Bush tax cuts for the rest of American taxpayers (or non-taxpayers). The irony is that Democrats spent several years during the Bush years protesting how the Bush tax cuts were nothing but handouts for the rich. Now, they are correctly asserting that if we don't extend the Bush tax cuts, low and middle income earners will be severely hit. Woops! . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4. Regarding Saxby Chambliss
Saxby Chambliss is waffling around like a dog off its leash for the first time.
He says he does not care about a "twenty year old pledge" he signed. He's talking about the Americans for Tax Reform pledge that says he pledges not to raise taxes. He has clarified his remarks to mean he wants tax reform that increases revenue through job growth.
Everyone knows that Saxby meant he was happy to raise taxes. Now, under pressure back home, he is waffling. He covets his seat in Washington and is fearful of being primaries. Georgia has primary run-offs, whichs means he can be taken out. He cannot bring himself to say he wants to raise revenue through changing in the tax code that will cause taxes to go up, so he dances around. Behind the scenes, we all know he will work to structure a proposal that increases taxes on Americans, but he'll cleverly make sure there are enough votes so he can vote against it. He is active and has been actively complicit with Mark Warner (D, VA) and others on raising taxes. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

News from The Hill:
GOP senators 'more disturbed' after meeting with Rice on Benghazi By Julian Pecquet
United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice failed Tuesday to convince Republican senators that she's not to blame for proving misleading information about the attack in Benghazi - raising new doubts about her potential nomination to be secretary of State.
"Bottom line, I'm more disturbed now than I was before (by) the 16 September explanation about how four Americans died in Benghazi, Libya by Ambassador Rice," said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.).
Graham met with Rice for more than an hour Tuesday morning along with Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.). Acting CIA Director Michael Morell also attended the closed-door briefing.
"We are significantly troubled by many of the answers that we got and some that we didn't get concerning some of the evidence that was overwhelming leading up to the attack on our consulate," McCain said.

November 27, 2012 Morsi the dictator During the onset of the "Arab Spring," Brigitte Gabriel, ACT! for America president, warned that this would lead to Muslim Brotherhood control of Egypt. Sadly, the Obama administration and many in the media and academia dismissively ignored such warnings. With Egyptian President Muhammad Morsi assuming total power, unaccountable to either the judiciary or Parliament, Egypt stands on the brink of becoming a sharia-governed Islamist state. Bad news for Israel. Bad news for the West. And bad news for every Egyptian who doesn't want to live under sharia law. Just because a country has democratic elections doesn't ensure it will have a democracy. See Brigitte's latest television interview on this issue here, or click on the image below.

4 Reasons Warren Buffett Is Wrong on Tax Hikes
Let's talk taxes. In a New York Times op-ed yesterday, famed investor and Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett once again argued that the wealthy should be taxed more.
This isn't the first time Buffett has made the case for higher taxes, and it's not the first time he's been wrong. Here are four reasons he is wrong to push for tax hikes.
1. Buffett says tax hikes won't hurt jobs.
Fact: Tax hikes, especially those he espouses, hurt jobs.
2. Buffett says tax hikes won't stop investors from investing.
Fact: Any time you tax something, you get less of it.
3. Buffett says the wealthy aren't even paying a minimum tax.
Fact: We already have an Alternative Minimum Tax.
4. Buffett says we need to raise taxes to bring in more revenue for the government.
Fact: The problem is government spending, not government revenue.

Obama Officials to Cash Out at Top Lobbying Firms |
|
by Tony Lee
President Barack Obama campaigned on shutting the revolving door that allows administration officials to peddle their influence on K-Street, but top administration officials are looking to land some of the highest-paying lobbying jobs during Obama's second term. Some top-level officials had already been in negotiations with lobbying firms before Obama even won reelection.
According to The Hill, "several Obama aides started making post-election plans well before November, holding discussions with executive search firms in Washington as early as this past spring" and "asked to be kept in mind for jobs after the election."

Applying First Principles to the Issues of Today
|
Lincoln: The Movie, the Man
While some Americans completed the Thanksgiving holiday by waiting four hours for discounted televisions, others went to the movies.
Hollywood boasted its most successful Thanksgiving holiday, raking in $288 million. The latest in the Twilight and James Bond series topped the box office, but Steven Spielberg's Lincoln is the getting all the buzz.
Lincoln features a stellar cast: Tommy Lee Jones, David Strathairn, Sally Field, and Daniel Day-Lewis as our nation's 16th President.
The script is based on Doris Kearns Goodwin's book Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln. But screenwriter Tony Kushner (of Munich fame) persuaded Spielberg to focus on the Thirteenth Amendment. So Day-Lewis will be the "Great Emancipator."
"I have always hated slavery," Lincoln repeatedly said. "If slavery is not wrong, nothing is wrong."
Slavery was also contrary to "the leading principle-the sheet anchor of American republicanism." Lincoln described the Declaration of Independence in his typical, colorful terms. It was, he said, an apple of gold, while the
Union, and the Constitution, are the picture of silver, subsequently framed around [the apple]. The picture was made, not to conceal, or destroy the apple; but to adorn, and preserve it. The picture was made for the apple-not the apple for the picture. So let us act, that neither picture, or apple, shall ever be blurred, or bruised, or broken.
That is, the core of America is the principle of human equality articulated in the Declaration of Independence. The Constitution exists to preserve and facilitate the equality principle by protecting it in the rule of law.
Thus, Lincoln recognized that the Constitution set forth a framework of limited government. He could not do everything he desired-such as abolishing slavery. Many took him to task for that. Abolitionists, Lincoln noted, "seemed to think that the moment I was president, I had the power to abolish slavery, forgetting that before I could have any power whatsoever I had to take the oath to support the Constitution of the United States and execute the laws as I found them."
Lincoln's nearly impossible task was to guide the nation through a bloody civil war that would eradicate the evil of slavery and mold the North and South into "a more perfect Union." Should he have allowed the Union to fall apart and potentially condemn the continent to the petty wars of confederacies? Should Lincoln have maintained the Union but surrendered the constitutional republic?
"When the time came for Lincoln as Chief Executive to preserve and protect the Constitution," explained historian Herman Belz, "his great and essential contribution was to make moral and philosophic distinctions concerning the meaning of liberty, equality, and republican government that restored the authority of the Founding."
Here's what Lincoln did: On January 1, 1863, acting on his authority as commander in chief, Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed the slaves in rebel states. This proclamation did not abolish slavery everywhere, nor did it "repeal state constitutions and laws establishing slavery." But it was a tremendous act of statesmanship that paved the way for the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth Amendments.
The Thirteenth Amendment eradicated the vicious institution of slavery and vindicated the equality principle at the heart of the Declaration. The Fourteenth Amendment performed many feats: affirming the citizenship of the newly freed men and women, guaranteeing them the protection of the rule of law, clarifying the status of political leaders from rebel nations, and repudiating the Confederate war debt. The Fifteenth Amendment ensured that the right to vote would not be abridged on account of race. Congress also received the power to enforce these amendments (a power it refused to exercise for some time, but that's another story).
Day-Lewis captures the gawky walk, looming height, and knitted brow of the man who knew the future of the republic rested on his actions, but let's be clear: The true legacy of Lincoln is not simply that he ended slavery. It's that he ended slavery while preserving the Constitution and the Union. He completed the Founding by vindicating the apple of gold without smashing the frame of silver in the process.

PLEASE FORWARD TO OTHERS... There's Safety In Numbers...
Here's an opportunity to sign a petition for change we can truly believe in: Impeaching President Obama. While this petition mentions Obama's illegal military involvement in Libya, I can think of many more ways in which Obama's policies toward the Islamic world amount to a gross dereliction of duty, if not treason: The Benghazi gun-running scheme that led to the death of Ambassador Stevens and 3 other Americans, the cover-up, the kill list for American civilians who have not been tried for any crime, the use of a pretext to imprison a private resident in the US because he committed blasphemy against Islam - as well as marking him for death at the hands of Islamists by denouncing him before the entire world, allying the United States with the Muslim Brotherhood, a known terrorist organization, election fraud...the list goes on and on.
While this petition will not directly lead to any action, it sends an important message that is already beginning to attract news coverage, and could embolden members of Congress who will want to gauge the mood of the nation if they begin to consider impeachment.
I'll admit that it takes some courage to sign this petition, because doing so requires you to identify yourself. But as the motto says, "there's safety in numbers." I've stuck my neck out for our country by signing the petition. Please join me and help make a loud statement that emboldens Congress to ACT against the Obama regime.

White House petition for Obama impeachment tops 38,000 signatures
With national attention focused on a long list of petitions asking the Obama administration for permission to secede from the United States, a little-watched petition to impeach the president has crept up in the rankings on the White House's "We the People" petition Web page. "We request that Barack Obama be impeached," the petition reads. Launched on Nov. 11, it collected 28,850 digital signatures from all 50 states in five days. The White House has promised to review petitions that attract more than 25,000 such signatures. The petition's creator, identified only as "Stephen M" - the website does not provide last names - based the proposal on complaints about the president's health care law, his declaration of war on Libya without congressional consent, the appointment of unelected policy "czars" in the White House and a claim that he has tried to "change" the Constitution. by GADI ADELMAN November 27, 2012 U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is eating her words, or perhaps I should say leather. Open mouth insert foot. Or in this case open mouth insert sandaled feet. After meeting with Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, UN Secretary Ban Ki-Moon, Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi and others to bring about a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, she stated, "I want to thank President Morsi for his personal leadership to de-escalate the situation in Gaza and end the violence." "Egypt's new government is assuming responsibility and leadership that has long made it a cornerstone of regional stability and peace." Exactly what is Clinton's definition of the word "long", the 33 years of peace with Israel since the signing of the treaty with Sadat or the less than 24 hours that it took Morsi to name himself the new Pharaoh? Once again the U.S. chooses the wrong side to align itself with. This is a re-run of the U.S. stance on the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) from June of last year when Secretary Clinton announced the formal recognition by the U.S. of the MB. June of 2011 saw the reversal of a five-year-old U.S. policy banning contact with the Muslim Brotherhood organization in Egypt and was reported by Reuters, While Clinton portrayed the administration's decision as a continuation of an earlier policy, it reflects a subtle shift in that U.S. officials will be able to deal directly with officials of the Islamist movement who are not members of parliament. "We believe, given the changing political landscape in Egypt, that it is in the interests of the United States to engage with all parties that are peaceful, and committed to non-violence, that intend to compete for the parliament and the presidency," Clinton told reporters at a news conference. "Now in any of those contacts, prior or future, we will continue to emphasize the importance of and support for democratic principles and especially a commitment to non-violence, respect for minority rights, and the full inclusion of women in any democracy," she added. Now, just after the U.S. and Clinton praising of Morsi, less than 24 hours later to be exact, Morsi felt there would be no better time to announce his true intentions. Read more...
Left Likes Fuzzy Math on Election Day Accuracy questioned for millions of ballots This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published November 23, 2012 Pawing through the ashes of Mitt Romney's defeat, it's clear that if the Republican Party wants to compete nationally, it has to do several things, such as re-message timeless traditional values, attract more young and minority voters -- particularly Hispanics -- and do a better job of getting out the vote. This will be moot if the integrity of the voting process is not restored. From Republican Rep. Allen B. West's improbable recount loss in South Florida, to reports of voting-machine irregularities, to the hundreds of precincts in Ohio and Pennsylvania that reported a virtual 100 percent vote for Barack Obama and zero for Mr. Romney, something is clearly wrong. "It's kind of a weird coincidence that, in Philadelphia, where more than 50 precincts reported no votes for Romney, that Democratic officials kicked GOP poll watchers out of the polls," Heritage Foundation scholar Hans von Spakovsky told me in a phone interview. "They went to court, and that took a couple of hours, so what happened while they were gone?" Read more...

Thought Experiment: Burns vs. Sunstein
Posted: 27 Nov 2012 01:08 PM PST
(Steven Hayward)
I'm working my way up to a Christmas books post in which I intend to include some discussion of which old C.S. Lewis book you ought to have on your Christmas book buying and/or reading list, but for now I want to derive a short thought experiment from this frequently cited Lewis passage from his essay "The Humanitarian Theory of Capital Punishment" (found in the indispensable collection God in the Dock):
Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth.
So . . . would you rather be ruled by Montgomery Burns of The Simpsons, or Cass Sunstein of Nudge fame? (I know, could have said Mayor Bloomberg, except he's both a robber baron and a therapeutic paternalist-the worst of both worlds.) Don't forget that Sunstein was effectively Obama's "czar" czar as head of regulatory analysis at the Office of Management and Budget.

I know who'd I'd pick. Now, is it release the hounds! Or, release the regulators!
Egyptian protesters are on their own Posted: 27 Nov 2012 10:37 AM PST (Paul Mirengoff) Egyptians flocked to Tahrir square today in protest against the decree that grants exceptional power to President Morsi, and against the Muslim Brotherhood in general. Some protesters threw stones and the police fired tear gas. Size matters when it comes to such protests, but it also difficult reliably to measure. The Washington Post estimated the Tahrir square crowd at about 20,000. In Alexandria, an anti-Morsi protest contingent was estimated at around 15,000. These numbers aren't insubstantial. They fall, I suspect, somewhere in between the size that can be ignored and the size that represents a possible tipping point. The government must decide whether to hope things blow over or to try to put an end to the protests. The former option carries no disincentive for continued protest. The latter might create a new incentive to protest. Even more than size, the military matters in these affairs. Not long ago, the military was a potential counter-balance to Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood. As such, it likely would have deterred Morsi from issuing the decree that spurred the protests. And, in the event of protests, it likely would have limited Morsi's range of possible responses. But the Obama administration refused to stand behind the conservative military leaders who constrained Morsi, and these leaders have been pushed aside. Thus, with the U.S. refusing to condemn Morsi's power grab, the street protesters, currently undermanned, seem to be on their own.
"Thank You, Iran!" Posted: 27 Nov 2012 09:21 AM PST (John Hinderaker) Reuters reports on what some may see as a touching display of gratitude: "Gazans say 'Thank you Iran' after Israel conflagration." Gazans offered very public thanks to Iran on Tuesday for helping them in this month's fight against Israel, when Iranian-made missiles were fired out of the Palestinian enclave towards Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. "Thank you Iran", said large billboards on three major road junctions in the Gaza Strip - the first time there has been such public acknowledgement of Iran's role in the arming of Islamic militants in the tiny territory.
This is one of the signs:
The message was written in Arabic, English, Hebrew and Farsi. The posters also depicted the Iranian Fajr 5 rockets that were used for the first time to target Israel's two largest population centres. ... The billboards were not signed, but a senior official with the militant group Islamic Jihad, Khader Habib, said it was only natural to show gratitude for Iran's role in the conflict. "Iranian rockets struck at Tel Aviv. They reached out to Jerusalem. Therefore it was our duty to thank those who helped our people," he told Reuters.
Of course, Iran didn't only supply Hamas with the rockets that were fired after the Israelis began their bombardment; rather, the rockets that Gaza has been firing for years, and that were the cause of the recent conflict, came from Iran, too. Until now, Iran and Hamas have been relatively coy about their partnership, but they seem to have come out of the closet: More . . . Rice meets with McCain, Graham, and Ayotte; doesn't help her cause (Updated) Posted: 27 Nov 2012 09:20 AM PST (Paul Mirengoff)
Over the weekend, Susan Rice asked to meet with Senators McCain, Graham, and Ayotte so that she could defend, or at least explain, why she provided erroneous information about the deadly Benghazi assault. That meeting happened today. Not surprisingly, Rice failed to mollify the Senators, at least two of whom would have been hard to mollify even if Rice had a decent defense, which she doesn't. Lindsey Graham declared, "The concerns I have are greater today than they were before, and we're not even close to getting the basic answers." John McCain said, "We are significantly troubled by many of the answers that we got and some that we didn't get." Both indicated that a Rice nomination for Secretary of State might well face tough going. But thanks for coming. Read More . . . Last week, I mentioned the bitter fight to determine who will succeed Nicolas Sarkozy as leader of the UMP, France's conservative party. At the time Jean-Francois Cope, the more conservative candidate, appeared to have defeated former Prime Minister (under Sarkozy) Francois Fillon by fewer than 1,000 votes, but Fillon had not recogized the result. A week later, Cope is officially the winner, but Fillon still doesn't accept the result. And perhaps with good reason. According to the Washington Post, votes from three overseas territories were not taken into account, and these votes would have put Fillon ahead. So why is Cope the winner? Beats me. Read More . . .

AFA's Naughty or Nice list - downgrades and upgrades
November 27, 2012
Now that the Christmas shopping season is in full swing, companies are extending store hours and advertising more than any other time of the year. The bottom line is this...they want you to do your Christmas shopping with them. Over the past seven years, your AFA has stood firm in the "War on Christmas." Companies who used to refuse to acknowledge Christmas now have Christmas "shops" inside their stores. Many of them now liberally use "Christmas" in their advertising and in-store signage. Sadly, there are still some companies which refuse to use "Christmas." They continue to insult and offend Christian shoppers by sticking with their politically correct "holiday" term. The 2012 AFA Naughty or Nice list lists major retailers and how they recognize "Christmas" in their advertising. See our updated list now with these changes: NICE! L.L. Bean - Company officials insure AFA that Christmas is an integral part of their advertising, including a 2012 Christmas Catalog. Its theme this year is "Discover the Christmas Spirit." Moved from "Naughty" to "Nice". NOT SO NICE Walgreens - Current advertising promotes "holiday" this and "holiday" that, but scarcely includes "Christmas." Moved from "Nice" to "Marginal". BOYCOTT Gap/Old Navy - AFA has called for a Christmas shopping boycott of Gap and Old Navy stores. It avoids using "Christmas" and has for years. Sign the boycott pledge now. Print your copy of the 2012 AFA Naughty or Nice list now! Time is running out! Supplies are now limited on AFA's beautiful Christmas buttons. I'm asking individuals like you in thousands of communities across the nation to head up this project in their local churches. Your willingness to underwrite the cost for your church and enthusiastically promote this project is the key to making an impact in your area. Order your personal pack of 10 or 30 buttons today, or, sponsor your entire church by choosing a Large or Small Church Packet or the NEW Display Box of 250 buttons. And, we will include FREE SHIPPING on all Christmas buttons and stickers.

Smoking is bad because sick smokers cost healthcare dollars, so why not ban Gay parenting?
Nov 27, 2012 05:13 am | Coach Collins
By Derrick Hollenbeck, staff writer
Doesn't the Left love to tell us we can't smoke, drink too much soda, use coconut oil in our popcorn and avoid being overweight and on and on? Don't they demand that children be allowed to have condoms in school but not aspirins?
Now based on the findings of a new large sample study conducted by The New Family Structures organization and reported on by the University of Texas, the Left should add same sex parenting, especially lesbian parenting, to its ever growing list prohibitions it dictates to us; but of course it won't.
The study is a "pull no punches" explanation of the serious problems encountered by adults raised in same-sex households. It is doubtful the Left will like the findings of this study but here are the highlights. All of those whose lives were examined were adults aged 18 to 39 who had spent all or some of their formative years ... Texas threatens to lock up advocates of Obama's unconstitutional NDAA
Nov 26, 2012 01:00 pm | Coach Collins
by Doug Book, staff writer
The Texas legislature will soon consider HB 149, the Texas Liberty Preservation Act which would subject anyone in the state attempting to enforce Barack Obama's infamous National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 (NDAA) to one year in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Written by Texas representative Lyle Larson, the Texas Act says that "...Texas shall not provide material support or participate in any way with the implementation of Sections 1021 and 1022 of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 within the legal boundaries of the state of Texas." (1)
Incorporated into the NDAA at the demand of Barack Obama, these sections allow the president "...to indefinitely detain, without charge, persons including United States citizens and lawful resident aliens, whether or not they are captured within the confines of the United States." That is, anyone Barack Obama considers a terror threat to the United States or the American public may-at ... Continue Reading:Texas threatens to lock up advocates of Obama's unconstitutional NDAA

Mitt Romney is a good man who would have made a very good president, but by June he was no longer a good Mitt Romney. Instead, millions of dollars in hit ads and free media assaults reduced him to a hideous caricature of a greedy, heartless Scrooge.

Cox and Archer: Why $16 Trillion Only Hints at the True U.S. Debt
Hiding the government's liabilities from the public makes it seem that we can tax our way out of mounting deficits. We can't.
The Wall Street Journal | By CHRIS COX AND BILL ARCHER | November 26, 2012, 6:41 p.m. ET
A decade and a half ago, both of us served on President Clinton's Bipartisan Commission on Entitlement and Tax Reform, the forerunner to President Obama's recent National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform. In 1994 we predicted that, unless something was done to control runaway entitlement spending, Medicare and Social Security would eventually go bankrupt or confront severe benefit cuts.
Eighteen years later, nothing has been done. Why? The usual reason is that entitlement reform is the third rail of American politics. That explanation presupposes voter demand for entitlements at any cost, even if it means bankrupting the nation.
A better explanation is that the full extent of the problem has remained hidden from policy makers and the public because of less than transparent government financial statements. How else could responsible officials claim that Medicare and Social Security have the resources they need to fulfill their commitments for years to come?

Why Won't President Obama Push Back Against Egypt's Power Grab?
November 27, 2012
Protests erupted across Egypt after its president decreed last Thursday that he was no longer subject to the law of his country - giving himself unchecked authority. This move has consequences for the security of both the United States and allies like Israel.
Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, a loyal member of the anti-Western Muslim Brotherhood, has taken Egypt on a very disturbing course since his arrival to power back in June, The Heritage Foundation's James Phillips explains. Under his leadership, Egypt has distanced itself from Washington while building a new relationship with China, engaging in close relations with Iran, and violating its peace treaty with Israel.
Morsi has restricted media freedom and announced a few months ago that Egyptian journalists will face harsh consequences for "insults" to the president. In addition, he has improved Egypt's relationship with Hamas, the branch of the Muslim Brotherhood that governs Gaza and is still very committed to continuing its attacks on Israel.
With Morsi clearly abusing his powers by putting himself above the law, the Obama administration still continues to support Egypt as a partner, even planning to forgive $1 billion in debt.
Phillips warns the administration not to lose sight of what's most important:
The Obama Administration must not abandon America's founding principles in supporting the rule of law, liberty, religious tolerance, and political freedom. It must push back against Morsi's illegitimate assertion of unchecked power. This will encourage opposition leaders and perhaps even Egyptians who remain on the fence to vigorously reject Morsi's aggressive power grab.
The people of Egypt and Egypt's Supreme Council of the Judiciary have pushed back against Morsi's power grab, though the armed forces may play the deciding role.
Do you think President Obama should rethink American support for the Egyptian regime?
