Iran moving sleeper cells into America?
Congresswoman: Cartels may be smuggling Hezbollah across border
by Drew Zahnm
A U.S. congresswoman is warning that while the world's eyes are on Iran's growing threat against Israel, the Islamic nation's terrorist surrogates may have already formed sleeper cells here in the United States.
Rep. Sue Myrick, R-N.C., asserted in a radio interview today she believes it's possible that Hezbollah, the radical terrorist organization tied to Iran, may be working with Mexican cartels to funnel not only drugs, but also terrorist sleeper agents into the U.S.
"Former [Defense Intelligence Agency] people and others have told me what is going on, there have been a couple of arrests in this country relative to people who have had ties to Hezbollah or Iran, and my concern has been with the drug cartels and the gangs that are operating in Mexico," Myrick said. "There is, what I have been told, a very strong presence there of coordination between the two."
Myrick was speaking to Aaron Klein, host of "Aaron Klein Investigative Radio," which airs from 7-9 p.m. Eastern on New York's 77WABC Radio and is also streamed live on the Internet.
"I'm very concerned about the fact that they've been in Central America and South America for so long - we all know that, that's a recognized fact - and our border is not secure," Myrick continued. "We do not know who is in this country, and I really believe because of what is happening, because of the growing presence of Iran, their influence in those areas - and it is a growing presence - that there is just an opportunity for them, with our weak border that we have, to come into our country."

Training Teachers for 'Social Justice'
At the Fifth Annual Northwest Conference on Teaching for Social Justice, race, class, white privilege, oppression, alternative lifestyles, identity - all the liberal buzzwords - were represented, and methods to encourage, train and promote students to become activists were out in full force.
The conference took place on October 20, 2012, at Madison High School in Portland, Oregon. It was organized by Seattle and Portland area "Rethinking Schools" groups; Social Equality Educators (SEE), an association of National Education Association union members; and Rethinking Schools, an "activist" publisher.
Humanities One workshop addressed English literature, "focusing on the application of various critical theories (postcolonial, feminist, Marxist, and gay/lesbian) to The Great Gatsby." . . . Science The workshop "Facing Cancer: Social Justice Curriculum for the Biology Classroom" dealt with the "inequities of cancer incidence and mortality." "Testimony for the Tuskegee Syphilis Study" was presented as "an introductory lesson in a cell, epidemiology, or bioethics unit" and "an example of how to incorporate social justice and writing into science." . . . Sex Two conference workshops addressed non-traditional sexual lifestyles. "Gender and Sexuality 101" was a workshop "meant to help educators develop an awareness of the issues facing LGBTTQQIA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Transsexual, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual) people in schools." . . . Race One offering in the area of race relations was "Cultural Cues for Working with African Americans." . . . Activism Several workshops sought to encourage student political activism. "Rethinking Democracy & Organizing for Change" provided a "hands-on, interactive training [that] is designed to equip youth with the self-confidence, knowledge, and skills to understand how our democracy was hijacked, the authoritarian tendencies that obstruct democracy, the critical link between human rights and values that lie at the core of real democracy, and how to design and implement effective action plans to build a movement and change the world." . . .

When we celebrate Thanksgiving in a little over a week, after being thankful for family and friends, for health and comfort, for food and shelter; it may be time to be thankful for the left. I have seen far too much despair and defeatism, too many comments that suggest there is no hope for America and the only thing left to do is pour a glass of wine and watch the sun go down. I understand the place of despair and pain that such words come from. But they also testify to how sheltered Americans are from the cold winds outside. Eight years of Obama is bad, no doubt. But try sixty-nine years of Communism on for size. That's what generations of Russians had to live through. Ask some of the conservative activists in Europe who have never had any of the freedoms that we still take for granted whether they've given up hope. Ask people from countries where criticism of Islam can mean a jail sentence and homeschooling is illegal, whether they've given up hope. There are countless tales of courage over the last century of men and women who did not stop fighting, who did not stop teaching their children so that they would not stop resisting. And those stories have not ended. They are taking place today in Europe. They are taking place in South America. And those people would envy the conditions under which we fight, where we can protest without being shot or sent to prison, where we can at least have a shot at winning elections if we try hard enough. Where we are, compared to 100 percent of the rest of the world, still free. We face a hard fight, not only for our freedom, but the freedom of the world. The international left has made America its special project. It knows that if it can extinguish the hope of liberty in this land then it will drive the rest of those who hope for freedom across the ocean deeper into despair. And it wants your despair. It wants you to give up so that the rest of the world gives up too and bows under its chains.

Seven years ago the Israeli government decided to forcibly evict the Jewish residents of Gaza and withdraw all bases and forces from the area. The experts, some with the government and some with the media, assured everyone that it would be for the best and that withdrawal would actually improve the security situation in the country. It was put about that resources and lives were being wasted protecting Israelis living in Gaza, while those Israelis insisted that their presence in Gaza was protecting Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. The experts laughed at them. Now the experts are keeping an ear open for air raid sirens because as it turned out, those farmers and teachers, those men and women growing lettuce in greenhouses and building homes on hilltops, from which rockets are being launched, were the ones protecting Tel Aviv. "They are now being asked to relinquish these accomplishments for the greater good," the government press release said of their houses and farms, of their synagogues and greenhouses. And the greater good was served. The greenhouses were turned into Hamas training camps and the synagogues were burnt to the ground. Rockets fly into the air from the ruins of broken houses. No longer will your sons have to die in Gaza, the experts said. A month later rockets were falling on Sderot. A year later Gilad Shalit had been kidnapped and Israeli soldiers were back again, dying in a Gaza that was now run by Hamas.

Is Petraeus Scandal an Obama Scandal?
By: Roger Aronoff | November 16, 2012
The news media are continuing to try to protect the Obama administration from a rapidly growing scandal. A November 13th article in The Washington Post by Scott Wilson argued that Obama "has been untouched by the unfolding investigation involving former CIA director David Petraeus," a view that belongs on the opinion page under the heading, "wishful thinking," not on the news pages. The stunning news from November 9th that CIA Director David Petraeus had resigned over an affair with his biographer, Paula Broadwell, a former Army intelligence officer and a former lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve, has become the source of numerous theories and psychological questioning of what makes powerful people tick. But it is actually proving to be a second shot at what should have been treated as a major Obama administration scandal prior to the November 6th election, the situation surrounding the terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya on September 11 this year, as I argued in a column last week. Frequently Asked Questions about the Exchanges Q: Why are Obamacare state based healthcare exchanges bad? It seems like it would be better for the state to set them up then the federal government? A: Normally we would agree, but after two years spent studying this 2700 page boondoggle and in light of this past election, we feel the best way to protect the families of this Commonwealth is for Governor Corbett to refuse to implement the exchange and let the federal government do it. Two key reasons: a.) Funding from the federal government runs out in 2015...meaning our state will have to pay for the entire cost of the program. And based on some estimates, that will cost working families $4,000 extra per year. We can't afford that. b.) What we really wanted was a full repeal of this law, but we're not going to get it right now. So our view is this: if the Federal government wants this law, let them come in and implement it. They do not have the man power and they do not have the money. The President has been unable to pass a budget even in the Democratically controlled Senate. We feel the best way to protect our families from the intrusion of these federal bureaucrats is to push this back on them. Q: Governor Corbett said he wasn't going to meet the Friday, November 16th deadline set by the Department of Health and Human Services for states to submit an exchange plan. Plus, HHS pushed back the deadline anyway. Why are we then "call bombing" the Governor now? Didn't he say he wouldn't implement the exchanges? A: Great Question! First, here is exactly what Governor Corbett said: "Let them [the federal government] start a program and then we can opt in later," Governor Corbett said. "So I'm keeping my options open at the moment." We do applaud Governor Corbett for standing up to the federal government now, but leaving the door open for a state based exchange later could cost you and your family dearly. If the Governor decides to relent because of federal pressure or because of offers of more money, it could adversely affect your families' health and healthcare decisions, not to mention your pocketbooks. We need the Governor to unilaterally state he will NOT implement a state based exchange. So, we are starting today and we won't stop until the Governor takes that bold stand. This is not personal against the Governor and we appreciate him bucking HHS now, but we have to make sure our families are protected beyond today. This will be a sustained effort. Q: But the Governor's office says only two states have rejected the exchange: TX and LA. If PA joins, it is only three and that is not enough. A: First, you don't need a committee to lead. One state doing the right thing is what is important. Second, there are more than just TX and LA who have outright rejected the exchanges. TX and LA were just the first to do it. Here are the states that have declared they will not implement an exchange: Alabama, Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Wyoming
Governor Corbett can know he is standing strong in good company. Q: Ok, so I'm thanking the Governor and putting pressure on him? What should I say when I call today? A: I think starting with a THANK YOU is great, but follow up with what you want the Governor to do. Here's a suggested script: "HI my name is [xxxx] from [xxxx] county. I am an activist with Americans for Prosperity [and add whatever other coalition group you are associated with]. I want to first thank Governor Corbett for not submitting a proposal for the exchanges today, however, I am deeply concerned that he is leaving the door open to do it in the future. I would like him to come out and state unilaterally that he will not, under any circumstances, create a state based exchange, that he will accept no money to do so and that he will return any money he received to implement it. Can you relay that to the Governor for me?" Q: Ok. I'll do it! But what number do I call and when? Go to AFP-PA.com and sign up for a time to call. You'll receive an email with the above script, the Governor's number and a friendly reminder to do the call! Thanks for all you are doing!

Yes, it's true: You can support ACT! for America-at no cost to you! An important message from Guy Rodgers, Executive Director
The next time you make an online purchase of almost anything, you could be helping ACT! for America-at no cost to you. Sound too good to be true? It isn't. All you have to do is sign up for "iGive"-a program that's been around since 1997. The concept is as powerful as it is simple.
Every time an iGive member makes an online purchase at over 1,000 brand-name stores, a percentage of that purchase is donated to that person's charity of choice.
|
And with the holidays just around the corner, you could be helping ACT! for America with every gift you buy! The concept isn't new. In the mid-1990s many supporters of non-profit organizations signed up with long distance telephone programs where a percentage of their bill was donated to their charity of choice. But our investigation of iGive has convinced us that this program has an ease of use and sophistication that we find remarkable.
- Imagine booking a hotel room on Orbitz-and having 1.6% of that purchase price donated to ACT! for America.
- Or buying an Xbox at Best Buy-and having 1.2% of the purchase price donated to ACT! for America.
|
The same goes for buying merchandise at Amazon, Bath and Body Works, Advance Auto Parts, Game Stop, Kmart, Home Depot, Holiday Inn, Old Navy, NASCAR Superstore, Overstock.com, Mattel, J.C. Penney, Office Max, QVC, Radio Shack, Shoe Carnival, Pottery Barn-and on and on the list goes.
|
In other words, every time you make a purchase of merchandise you would buy anyway, you would be financially supporting ACT! for America! All you have to do is log on below and follow the directions to create your account and download the iGive "button." (Note: downloading the "button" is key).
Get Started Here!
When I was first informed of iGive, I was skeptical. I've seen these ideas come and go. Often, they're too good to be true. Or there are all kinds of glitches and problems. So I spent hours researching. I looked at online customer reviews (which were very good). I read all of iGive's fine print, such as Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. I signed up and even emailed two tech support questions to see how good their tech support was.
And the more I dug, the more I liked what I saw. For instance, both of my tech support questions were responded to within 60 minutes. How often does THAT happen?
|
As you know from our Patriot Partner program, we're all about encouraging a lot of people to each do a little-to do something. When everyone does a little, together we accomplish a lot. So consider what could happen.
If just 1% of ACT! for America members each purchased just $400 in merchandise in 2013, from all the available outlets, and the average percentage donated to ACT! was 1.5%, the total amount donated back to ACT! for America would be... ...$15,000. That's a lot of money, wouldn't you agree? And if you were one of those ACT! for America members, it wouldn't cost you one thin dime to help ACT! for America receive $15,000. If this idea really caught on, and eventually 5% of our members made purchases with iGive, that $15,000 could explode to $50,000, $75,000 or more!
|
What's more, that 1.5% figure might be low. Many of the merchants offer percentage donations that are much higher. One printer inkjet company I looked at offered 13%! Every merchant website you visit tells you right at the top what percentage of your purchase price will be donated to ACT! for America. Just think what we could accomplish with an extra $15,000, $50,000 or $75,000 in our fight against radical Islam!
Get Started Here!
One of the things I most wanted to know was their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Check it out for yourself. I confirmed the terms with a company representative. And I like what I learned. As security-conscious as I am, I have no hesitation using the service-and I'm already doing so.
|
I know there are many people out there who would love to support ACT! for America, or give more than they're giving, but in these tough economic times they simply can't. Well, here's a way that everyone who believes in our mission can easily support what we're doing-at no cost to them. It doesn't get any better than that.
There are already chapter leaders who have signed up for the program, and the feedback I have been getting from them has been all positive. They love the idea and many of them are already using it.
|
So please, join me and these ACT! for America chapter leaders who are already signed up and using the iGive service. Yours for a safe and free America

AMERICAN JEWS AND CHRISTIAN EVANGELICALS: IRRECONCILABLE ENEMIES OR INEVITABLE ALLIES?
|
|
Michael Medved is a nationally syndicated radio talk show host and bestselling author. His daily show is heard by over 3.75 million people across the country. Born in Philadelphia, Michael won admission to Yale at age 16 as a National Merit Scholar. He majored in American History and graduated with honors, before attending Yale Law School, where his classmates included Bill and Hillary Clinton. Michael wrote his first bestseller at age 26 - "What Really Happened to the Class of '65?" - a skeptical reconsideration of the "counterculture" of the 1960's that became a weekly TV series on NBC.
Many American Jews distrust and even fear the rise of the evangelical Christianity. They see this religious movement as a threat to the survival of Judaism in the United States and to the continuance of a society that values pluralism and religious liberty. On the other hand increasing numbers of American Jews view evangelicals as natural allies, not just when it comes to support of Israel, but on a range of social issues here in the U.S. In this provocative presentation, Michael Medved will explain where Jews and Christians already agree, and where they can never agree, in their participation in the ongoing battles shaping American society.

The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq
Jul 18th, 2012
Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet, The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.
The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.
Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.
Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.
The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.
The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

Individuals sympathetic to the Muslim Brotherhood's sinister agenda have infiltrated the Obama Administration.
Brainwashed by the Muslim Students Association and then propelled in to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the David Horowitz Freedom Center tracks the path of Huma Abedin and other Muslim sympathizers who have navigated their way into positions of great influence in the Obama Administration. Everything is revealed in the explosive new Freedom Center pamphlet, "The Muslim Brotherhood in the Obama Administration," written by Frank Gaffney, national security expert who served as Assistant Secretary of Defense under Ronald Reagan.

York: GOP governors brace for fights over Obamacare, drilling
November 15, 2012
LAS VEGAS - With Mitt Romney's defeat and the loss of Republican seats in both House and Senate, the balance of power in the GOP has shifted. Republican governors -- the one group that actually increased its numbers on Nov. 6 -- believe they should take a bigger and more influential role in establishing the party's direction.
As they hold their annual meeting here in Las Vegas, Republican governors are quick to point out that they now preside in 30 states, with a population of about 180 million people. Idaho Gov. Butch Otter sat down to make a little chart and quickly discovered that if Romney had won just the states with Republican governors, he would have chalked up 315 electoral votes -- and we'd now be talking about a Romney electoral landslide.
So the governors feel a little ahead of the rest of the Republican pack. And while much of the press covering the governors' confab in Las Vegas focused on election post-mortems, the real story to emerge from the conference is the coming conflict between the GOP governors and the Obama administration. It could be one of the major stories of the president's second term.
The flash point, at least right now, is Obamacare. People might assume the health care plan, passed by Congress, signed by the president and upheld by the Supreme Court, will now simply go into effect. It won't be that simple.

RedState Morning Briefing
For November 19, 2012
1. An open letter to conservatives
I had a very exciting time at the Republican National Convention. My conservative allies and I all worked very hard in the presidential election.
When I woke up the day after the election, everything I had worked for appeared to be in ruins. An extreme leftist had been reelected president of the United States.
Some liberal Republicans immediately began to blame newly activated conservatives for the presidential defeat. I knew they were wrong. It was clear to me that these newly active conservatives would be the key to major future victories for conservative principles.
2. Ironic: Teamsters Called For Secret-Ballot At Hostess While Pushing To Eliminate Secret-Ballots
For the last several years, union bosses have been fighting to effectively eliminate workers' right to vote through secret-ballot elections on whether or not to become unionized. Yet, with 6700 members' jobs about to be wiped out, when push came to shove last week-knowing how unions can manipulate other methods of voting-the Teamsters called for the bakers' union to hold a secret-ballot vote to let members determine whether or not to continue the strike that would close Hostess. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3. As Union Bosses Spin Twinkies' Demise, Bakers' Union Boss Admits Union Knew Hostess Would Die
With the demise of 18,000 jobs weighing on their shoulders (though certainly not their consciousness') and just in time for the Sunday morning talk shows union bosses are now trying desperately to point fingers at the victim (and Mitt Romney) for the union's strike that ultimately destroyed Hostess and its 18,000 jobs. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4. Obama's EPA Continues Handouts for Rich Ethanol Farmers on the Backs of Consumers
Nothing exemplifies the failure of Republicans to communicate more than the exit polling data regarding the public's perception of the cost of living. A whopping 37% of voters selected 'rising prices' as their most important issue in the election, yet amazingly, they split their votes evenly between Romney and Obama. Hence, the arsonist behind the high prices for food, fuel, healthcare, and every other vital product and service affected by his tax and regulatory regime, was regarded as the firefighter by half the electorate.
The single most regressive market-distorting policy to ever emanate from Washington is the absurd tendentious treatment of ethanol. Over the past decade, ethanol has been the poster child for the worst aspects of big-government crony capitalism. The ethanol industry has used the fist of government to mandate that fuel blenders use their product, to subsidize their production with refundable tax credits, and to impose tariffs on more efficient sugar-based ethanol from Brazil. These policies have distorted the market for corn to such a degree that 44% of all corn grown in the country is diverted towards motor fuel blends. If we would literally flush half the corn harvest down the toilet, we would be better off than using it to make our motor fuel less efficient. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4. The Golden Calf of Increased Tax Rates
Let me open by saying that if economics is a religion for you and your golden calf is government than you are already immune to logic and continuing with this piece any further is a waste of your time. It is with regret that I must preface this writing in such a way but I found during my nearly two-year campaign for the U.S. Senate in Maryland that no matter how powerful the argument against liberal economic policies there are some that are simply calcified in their beliefs. It is disturbing to watch a growing number of politicians, who fully understand the consequences of detrimental tax policy, begin to cower to those who perpetually yearn for more of your money.
The current fight to hike tax rates flies in the face of logic and in the interests of keeping the argument simple I want to address it from three fronts, tax rates and their effects on behavior, what the study of economics tells us about tax rates and the morality of increasing tax rates. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

Congress looks for truth about Benghazi from the former CIA director.
As Operation Pillar of Defense entered its third day, Gaza terror groups continued to fire rockets on southern Israeli communities. The IDF struck hundreds of targets in Gaza overnight and on Friday morning.

There is no way to sugarcoat it: Petraeus is guilty of extremely poor judgment, perhaps even criminal negligence.

One of the theories being floated is that the administration had authorized the movement of arms to Syrian Rebels (without Congressional approval), being shipped first to Turkey.

Petraeus is a remarkable piece of fiction created and promoted by neocons in government, the media and academia.
As Congress reconvenes, Democrats are insisting that President Obama's re-election means that House Republicans are going to have to give in to his demands for tax increases on the wealthy.
The Obama administration named Holly Petraeus--wife of Gen. Patraeus, who resigned last week as CIA director--to a $187,605-per-yer job in the newly formed Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

First things first, why was David Petraeus investigated at all?
Nov 17, 2012 01:00 pm | Coach Collins
by Doug Book, staff writer
What caused the Federal Bureau of Investigation to play the role of voyeur in the affair between David Petraeus and Paula Broadwell? We have been told that FBI agent Fred Humphries-the instigator of the original investigation into "threatening emails" sent by Broadwell to Jill Kelley-was concerned that secret documents might have been passed to or stolen by Broadwell. Yet the FBI made it clear that a breach of national security was NOT at issue in their investigation. "By late October, the FBI had concluded there was no national security breach and was only pursuing a criminal investigation of the harassing emails and whether Petraeus had played any role in them." (1)
And DID Petraeus play any role in the harassing emails? Well he certainly didn't write them, send them or recommend they be sent. So he clearly played no role. That leads back to the question: Why did the FBI decide ... Continue Reading:First things first, why was David Petraeus investigated at all?

The Allen West recount continues (an on the ground report)

A judge mumbled his way through his no go decision, a county attorney admitted the canvassing board violated Florida's sunshine laws, and the RPOF remained in transit from Tallahassee, but Colonel Allen West is still ALL IN. Election Supervisor Gertrude Walker went to the hospital as a 2-1 decision near midnight on Friday by the canvassing board determined a re-tabulation of ALL early votes has begun at 9 a.m. this morning.
Going in "for tests," Walker may not be able to show up or have another presser to answer bourgeoning questions of what she knew and when did she know it about alleged discrepancies that could prevent Colonel West from meeting the automatic trigger of .5% for an automatic recount of ALL votes!
All week long, Florida citizens gathered in front of her office. A young man shouting into a white bullhorn led marching in military cadence to ... Continue Reading:The Allen West recount continues (an on the ground report)

Where was this backbone before the election? Nov 17, 2012 05:13 am | Coach Collins By Jim Emerson, staff writer Smoke has been used to mask the movement of military units to disorient or drive off attackers. In politics smoke screens are something said or done in order to hide the truth. The Petraeus scandal with the smoke provided by the liberal main stream media has redirected attention away from the murders of Americans in Benghazi. Scandal The surprised resignation of CIA director David Petraeus and the sideshow it created was the perfect smoke screen this administration needed. The continuous revelations created the drama that keeps the loyal Obama audience entertained. It has the sex, drama, and the execution of a Hollywood production. The premise of the movie "Wag the Dog" a campaign spin doctor and a Hollywood film producer construct a fake war to divert attention away from a sex scandal. The press willingly plays along with the current scenario the tail is wagging the dog and the foolish masses are ... Republican House Leader Eric Cantor covered up for Obama Regime Nov 16, 2012 05:13 am | Coach Collins by Doug Book, staff writer In late October, an FBI agent and whistleblower brought a story of possible Bureau corruption to Republican House Majority Leader, Eric Cantor. It was a story of Obama Regime operatives deliberately sacrificing the national security interests of the United States for the president's political gain. And what did the Republican house leader do with that information which-10 days before the election-could have shown that Barack Obama placed his own political advantage above the security of the nation? Why naturally he took the story to just one person-Obama appointee, FBI Director Robert Mueller, the very man who would have been responsible for the betrayal of those security interests in the first place! On October 27th, Tampa FBI field agent Fred Humphries contacted US Representative David Reichert and told him that the FBI was dragging its feet in an investigation of possible national security leaks. Reichert directed Humphries to the far more ... Continue Reading:Republican House Leader Eric Cantor covered up for Obama Regime comments | read more |

A news clip of Rep. Dana Rohrabacher's (R-CA) opening statement during the 11/15/12 House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on the Benghazi terrorist attack. Addresses Amb. Susan Rice and the Obama administration's willful deception of the American people on the true nature of the Sept 11, 2012 attack.

Friday, November 16, 2012 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer Petraeus Testifies Former CIA Director General David Petraeus testified behind closed doors on Capitol Hill this morning about the 9/11 attack on our consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Gen. Petraeus told members of the intelligence committees that he "knew almost immediately" that the attack on the consulate was carried out by Ansar al Sharia, an Al Qaeda group in Libya. Emerging from the hearing, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Peter King (R-NY) told reporters that Gen. Petraeus was asked about the talking points used by U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice. As you may recall, Rice said repeatedly on national television that the attack was a spontaneous demonstration in response to an anti-Islamic film. Gen. Petraeus told the committee that the original CIA talking points were "much more specific about al-Qaeda involvement." But they were edited during an "inter-agency process," and no one knows where in the process that "much more specific" information got cut. Unfortunately, as Rep. King indicated, General Petraeus' testimony this morning contradicts what he told the committee in September when he essentially toed the White House line. It also raises questions about who cut information about Al Qaeda's involvement and why. On MSNBC this morning, Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), vice chairman for the Senate Intelligence Committee, said, "Susan Rice was sent to give a White House message. It was not an intelligence community message, and there's a very clear distinction in that." Every American should demand to know why the White House was not in sync with the intelligence community. Jerusalem Targeted Palestinian militants fired rockets toward Jerusalem today. Fortunately, they landed in open fields outside the Holy City and no one was hurt. A Hamas spokesman said, "We are sending a short and simple message: There is no security for any Zionist on any single inch of Palestine and we plan more surprises." Israel has already called up 16,000 reservists, and IDF tanks are massing on the Gaza border in preparation for a possible ground assault. After today's attack on Jerusalem, Reuters reported that as many as 75,000 reservists may be called up. Meanwhile, the Egyptian prime minister, our supposed ally and product of the Arab Spring, has rushed to Gaza to show Egypt's solidarity with the Palestinians. Egypt has a peace treaty with Israel. Egypt receives $1.5 billion dollars in aid from the U.S. each year. It is time to demand more from our "allies" in Cairo. If President Obama is serious, he should get Mohamed Morsi on the phone and tell him to stop standing with the terrorists or go find his $1.5 billion somewhere else! As this crisis continues, we will no doubt hear more about alleged Israeli "war crimes." So let's talk about real war crimes. As David French correctly notes, "Every Hamas rocket attack is a war crime." Why? Because they are aimed at civilian targets with the intention of terrorizing the Israeli people. These rocket attacks are terrorist attacks. Moreover, Hamas has intentionally positioned its rocket launchers in civilian areas, near mosques, schools and hospitals, thereby turning innocent Palestinians into human shields. Under international law, placing such weapons in civilian areas constitutes a war crime, and it is not a war crime for Israel to take them out. Obama Continues The Campaign For most Americans the 2012 campaign ended on November 6th. But the left isn't stopping. Today's Washington Post reports that "President Obama's reelection machinery" is being kept in place and will be used in an on-going "campaign to pressure Republican lawmakers." At least 100 Obama campaign operatives have been retained for this massive effort. According to the Post, these "former campaign organizers" will "orchestrate protests in front of lawmakers' offices and set up phone banks to call constituents." For all the talk about compromise, this is just more Chicago-style hardball politics! The negotiations over the so-called "fiscal cliff" haven't even begun yet, and Democrat demands are increasing by the day. For example:
- Obama has doubled his demand from $800 billion in new tax hikes to $1.6 trillion.
- At least 13 Senate Democrats are resisting cuts to entitlement programs and demanding that any deficit reduction plan be based on a 1-to-1 ratio of tax increases to spending cuts. Keep in mind that Obama has run $1 trillion deficits each and every year of his administration. Spending, not revenue, is clearly the problem!
- And to top it all off, other Senate liberals are demanding another stimulus package! Yes, that's right -- their solution to our spending and debt crisis is even more spending and more debt!
All of this is increasing the suspicion among conservatives that Obama and his Democrat allies really don't want a deal at all. In fact, they may even want the country to go off the fiscal cliff. Here's the partisan logic: If Democrats can force enough weak-kneed Republicans to buckle and accept a bad deal, Democrats win and the GOP hurts its brand again. Or they just keep upping the ante so much that even the weak-kneed Republicans can't go for it. If nothing happens, the Bush tax cuts automatically expire on January 1st and Obama still gets his tax hikes. But he also gets the added benefit of bashing Republicans for the fiscal chaos that ensues. Some liberals believe it's a win-win for Obama. I have spent the last few days in private meetings with conservative leaders and our allies in Congress. I have not found anyone who is confident we can finesse this issue. All most Americans will hear is Obama's spin amplified by the left-wing media. Union Bankrupts Twinkies Here's a good indication of the mood on the left and its unwillingness to compromise. Hostess Brands, makers of Twinkies and Wonder Bread, is shutting down and laying off 18,000 workers at its 33 bakeries and 565 distribution centers. Hostess is going out of business because the bakers' union refused to accept a new contract, ignored repeated warnings that the company risked bankruptcy and went on strike. No doubt Michelle Obama and Michael Bloomberg are doing a victory dance. First they tell us that men can "marry" other men. Now they are telling us that we must do without Twinkies! Joking aside, the president of the Service Employees International Union said a few years ago, "'Workers of the world unite,' it's not just a slogan anymore." Presumably he knows that slogan comes from Karl Marx's "Communist Manifesto." But I wonder just how much unity the workers of Hostess Brands are feeling today.

This WEEKLY MIDDLE EAST REPORT titled U.S. Double-Standard Towards the Kurd. Questions why the Obama administration supports Palestinian statehood but finds a Kurdish independent state objectionable?
U.S. DOUBLE-STANDARD TOWARDS THE KURDS
By: Joseph Puder
The London based pan-Arab newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat reported on October 29, 2012 that the Obama administration has rejected the notion of an independent Kurdish state. An article by Shirzad Shikhani in the paper headlined: "Kurdish Autonomous Region No-Go - US notes that "A Kurdish leader, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed that the US administration has informed Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani that the US and Turkey will not support any efforts, on his part, to announce an independent Kurdish state." This raises the curious question as to why the Obama administration supports Palestinian statehood but finds a Kurdish independent state objectionable.
The Obama administration's reasoning according to Shikhani is that Washington supports "dialogue with Baghdad, and recommended that he (Barzani) - along with Iraqi political leaders - seek to overcome this crisis and normalize relations between the Iraqi and Kurdish political forces in order to protect the democratic experience in Iraq." Iraq however is not a Jeffersonian democracy nor could it ever be one, given that Iraq is an inorganic concoction created by the colonial powers post WWI. Iraq ceased to be a "democracy" of any kind as soon as the U.S. troops departed in 2011. Its Prime Minister, Nuri Al-Maliki, has increasingly assumed the authoritarian nature of other Arab leaders, to the deep dismay of true democrats.
The New York Times in a September 5, 2012 report on Nuri Al-Maliki noted that, "In 2011, as American involvement in his country came to an end, he was viewed as the country's emerging sectarian strongman, whose aggressive actions have raised concerns both at home and in the West, where officials have long been uneasy with the prime minister's authoritarian tendencies."
Modern Iraq has always been ruled by authoritarian leaders. Its first ruler was the Hashemite King Feisal originally from the Hejaz in Saudi Arabia -a Sunni Muslim ruling over a majority of Arab Shiites-Muslims and Kurds. Then, in 1958, Col. Abd al-Karim Qasim seized power in coup that deposed the monarchy and murdered the royal family. The pro-Communist Qasim was deposed and killed in a Ba'athist engineered coup in 1963, that brought Qasim's coup partner, Col. Abdul Salam Arif (Arab Sunni-Muslim) to power. When he died in a plane crash (most likely sabotage) his brother Abdul Rahman Arif became president in 1966. Another coup in 1968 brought Gen. Ahmed Hassan al-Bakrto power. Al-Bakr stepped down (most likely forced to do so) from the presidency in 1979, and Saddam Hussein, al-Bakr's cousin assumed full dictatorial power in Iraq. All of these strongmen including Saddam were Arab Sunni-Muslim. Al-Maliki is the first Arab-Shiite to rule Iraq.
The post WW I Treaty of Se'vres, (Aug. 10, 1920), between the victorious Allies and the defeated Ottoman Turkey, provided for an autonomous Kurdistan (and an independent Armenia). The treaty was rejected however by the new Turkish nationalist regime of Kemal Ataturk, and was replaced by the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923. The Kurds then declared independence in 1927 and established the Republic of Ararat, only to be crushedby the Turks three years later. Turkey now as then is opposed to any manifestation of Kurdish independence in Iraq or Syria, but champion's Palestinian independence. This hypocrisy is regrettably endorsed by the U.S.
Britain, post WW I, received a League of Nations Mandate for the administration of Iraq and Palestine, and to consolidate oil resources, stripped the Kurdish area of northern Iraq from Turkey and combined it with the Iraqi oil rich Gulf region in the south. The Sunni tribal areas lay between these two areas. But while London sought to confer self-determination on Arab-Palestinians under the 1937 Peel Commission (which the Arab rejected) they have never provided the same opportunity for the Kurds. Mullah Mustafa Barzani (Massoud Barzani father) became the Kurdish figurehead who sought separatism, autonomy and ultimately independence for the Kurds. In 1946, along Qazi Muhammad, the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran, declared the Independent Republic of Mahabad in northwestern Iran. It lasted a mere six months and was crushed by overwhelming number of Iranian troops.
Barzani returned to his native Iraq in 1958 following the overthrow of the monarchy. Barzani's call for Kurdish autonomy brought him into conflict with Qasim and the Arif brothers. A peace deal between the Baghdad government led by Saddam Hussein and the Kurdish Peshmerga under Barzani was signed in 1970. It recognized Kurdish self-rule in Northern Iraq, and the Kurdish language. But as the Al-Bakr-Saddam Hussein regime "Arabized," hostilities in the oil-rich Kirkuk area (a majority Kurdish area) resumed.
The Iran-Iraq War that began in 1980 afforded the Kurds in Iraq an opportunity to push back the Iraqi forces in Northern Iraq. In 1983, Saddam ordered his troops into the area around Massoud Barzani's home (now leader of the KDP following his father's death in 1979) and mercilessly killed 8000 Kurds. As the war with Iran was waning, Saddam initiated the "Anfal Campaign" against the Kurds in northern Iraq. Saddam's cousin-Ali Hassan al-Majid, known as "Chemical Ali," used poison gas to kill 5000 civilians and injure 10,000 in the town of Halabja.
In 1991, soon after the Gulf War, President George H. Bush encouraged the Kurds to launch an uprising against Saddam but when Iraqi planes bombed Kurdish villages the U.S. did nothing. As a result, a million Iraqi Kurds became refugees. These events prompted the Kurdish Democratic Party, led by Barzani, and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, led by Jalal Talabani, to end their civil war and unite.
Considering that Americans are welcomed and safe in Iraqi Kurdistan, and that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) led by Massoud Barzani is the only stable entity in Iraq, where prosperity and democracy are emerging, the question that begs asking is why the Obama administration is not eager to welcome an independent Kurdistan. Joe Biden as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee was quoted by Reuters on May 1, 2006 as saying: "Iraq should be divided into three largely autonomous regions - Kurd, Sunni Arab and Shiite Arab - with a weaker central government in Baghdad." Biden, in a NY Times Op-Ed warned against actions by the (George W.) Bush administration, saying: "the Bush administration's effort to establish a strong central government in Baghdad had been a failure doomed by ethnic rivalry that had spawned widespread sectarian violence." As Vice President and part of the Biden/Obama administration, Biden is complicit in doing exactly what he railed against.
The hypocrisy and double standards of the Obama administration regarding Kurdish independence can be best understood when one reads Obama's Cairo speech of June 2009 in which he said, "For more than sixty years they (the Palestinians) have endured the pain of dislocation. Many wait in refugee camps in the West Bank, Gaza, and neighboring lands for a life of peace and security that they have never been able to lead. They endure the daily humiliations - large and small - that come with occupation. So let there be no doubt: the situation for the Palestinian people is intolerable. America will not turn our backs on the legitimate Palestinian aspiration for dignity, opportunity, and a state of their own."
The Kurds have endured great suffering, indignity, and humiliation over the last 100 years. The suffering of the Arab Palestinians referenced by Obama has been largely self-inflicted. Time and again they have rejected offers of peace and compromises. The 1937 Peel Commission and the 1947 UN Partition Plan offered the Arab Palestinians an opportunity to establish their own state alongside a tiny Jewish State. They chose war and the possibility of destroying Israel instead. The Kurds unlike the Arab-Palestinians have not engaged in terror, suicide bombing, and aircraft hijacking, and acts of terror by the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) have been condemned by most Kurds. And while there are 22 Arab states who share the same sense of collective nationhood including religion, culture, and language, there is not a single Kurdish state in spite of the fact that the Kurdish nation is 40 million strong, with its own culture and Indo-European language (Kurmanji and Sorani).
It is time the U.S. and the West support an independent Kurdish state comprised of the contiguous areas of Kurdish dominance in northern Iraq and northeastern Syria. Such support would be an act of true justice and fairness for a forgotten nation - the Kurds.

News flash from President Obama: ground troops face the risk of wounds or death
Posted: 18 Nov 2012 03:32 PM PST
(Paul Mirengoff)
President Obama has encouraged Israel not to send troops into Gaza if it can halt the bombardment of southern Israel without the use of ground troops. Obama pointed out that not sending in troops is "preferable for Israelis, because if Israeli troops are in Gaza, they're much more at risk of incurring fatalities or being wounded."
What would the world do without Barack Obama to provide such insights?

Democrats hold Giffords' former seat
Posted: 18 Nov 2012 02:38 PM PST
(Paul Mirengoff)
As we feared, Democrat Ron Barber has narrowly defeated Republican Martha McSally in Arizona's Second Congressional District. This is the seat formerly held by Gabrielle Giffords.
McSally led by about 400 voters on the day after the election. But the late-counted vote brought Barber victory by about 1,400 votes in a district that encompasses parts of Tucson and southeastern Arizona and is not identical to the one Giffords represented.
Barber is a career bureaucrat and former Giffords staffer. McSally was the first American woman to fly in combat following the 1991 lifting of the prohibition of women in combat, and the first woman to command a USAF fighter squadron.

Scenes from a Social Media War
Posted: 18 Nov 2012 08:26 AM PST
(Steven Hayward)
It seems exceedingly unlikely that the recent Hamas attacks on Israel from Gaza are a mere coincidence with Obama's re-election. More likely still is that this is part of a new political phase in the Hamas-Tehran axis that presages some kind of breakout (next step in the nuke program?) and is designed to tie up Israel and make a strike against Iran more difficult.
In any case, one new thing we are seeing is the first "social media" war of the 21st century. Such as this video released by the IDF in Twitter showing how they avoided damaging a mosque while taking out a rocket launcher placed on purpose next to the mosque:
Then there's this video showing Israel's "iron dome" missile defense system in action:

Learning from Paul Danahar
Posted: 18 Nov 2012 06:38 AM PST
(Scott Johnson)
Paul Danahar is the BBC Middle East Bureau Chief and Chairman of the Middle East's Foreign Press Association. He is camped out in Gaza City and its Shifa Hospital, reporting the sights and sounds of the war in which Israel is seeking to suppress Hamas's rocket/missile capability. It is a capability that Hamas has freely used over the past 10 years to target Israeli civilians and generate terror among the civilian population in the south of the country.
Danahar's Twitter feed provides a glimpse of the scene in Gaza from the standard perspective - i.e., with the standard animus - of the British media. Yet we can learn something from Danahar. What might it be?
If you have any interest at all, I ask you to check my observations out against your own by scrolling through Danahar's Twitter feed. Here is what I observe.
1. Danahar identifies with the Gaza Arabs.
2. Danahar has no comments about Hamas or its goals and tactics. Hamas is a genocidal terrorist organization. Doesn't Danahar know any Gaza Arabs who have any quibbles with its murderous fanaticism or tyranny?
3. Danahar expresses no sympathy for the Israelis. None. Zilch. Nada. His observable range of sympathies is remarkably narrow.
4. Danahar is a relentless reporter of the scene. He is tweeting every few minutes.
5. Gaza City presents many targets for Israelis intent on disabling Hamas's structure of command and control. The Israelis exercise great care to target these sites with precision. Here it helps to collate Danahar's feed with that of the IDF, which Danahar himself occasionally does in his retweets.
6. Danahar is in the immediate vicinity of Israeli fire. He expresses no fear. He is either confident of the care of the Israeli forces or quite brave, or both, but I have to lean toward the latter because he simply does not credit the care of the IDF. He attributes all manner of harm to the Israelis, as though they exercise no restraint in their military efforts.
7. Danahar hears the fire of short- and long-range rockets/missiles in his immediate vicinity. Within the past 24 hours Danahar tweeted: "Long range rocket just took off near our bureau in #Gaza." We can learn from Danahar that Hamas has embedded itself in residential neighborhoods and civilian office buildings (including a building in which foreign press offices are maintained).
8. The outgoing fire that Danahar hears is aimed at Israeli civilians with the intent of inflicting maximum damage. Danahar expresses absolutely no feelings about this. He is in this respect a detached observer.
9. Danahar seems oblivious, perhaps willfully obtuse, to the possibility that Hamas communications infrastructure is located on buildings in which the press maintains offices. He tweets, for example: "Question from FPA for @IDFSpokesperson: If targets last night were carefully chosen why were two buildings holding journalists hit in #Gaza." Danahar retweets the IDF statement that "[t]he sites that we targeted overnight were all positively identified by precise intelligence over the course of months," but somehow it doesn't compute for Danahar.
10. Danahar seems unable to put two and two together, responding: "#Israel's IDF last night hit two buildings in #Gaza where local & foreign journalists are operating from injuring several journalists." The IDF has tweeted: "Advice to reporters in #Gaza, just like any person in Gaza. For your own safety, stay away from #Hamas positions and operatives."
11. Danahar's tweets are suffused with feelings of indignation and outrage about the inevitable civilian casualties that result from Hamas's modus operandi of hiding behind civilians, but no indignation or outrage about Hamas's modus operandi.
12. Not all the civilian Gaza casualties are caused by Israel. Danahar does not try to sort out the cause of the particular incidents to which he is witness. He seems to me to accept Hamas's modus operandi and assume that Israel is the cause. This morning the IDF tweets: "Fact: 99 rockets fired from #Gaza have crashed back into Gaza in the last 4 days. Hamas fires from civilian areas...and hits its own people."
13. For a good example of the harm perpetrated by Hamas on the Gaza populace - the kind of harm to which Danahar turns a blind eye - see the IsraellyCool post "The kid killed by Hamas" and the related New York Times story "Mistaken lull, simple errand, death in Gaza."
14. On November 15, Danahar joined his BBC Gaza colleague Jihad Masharawi after the death of Masharawi's son Omar. Danahar tweeted a family picture of Omar and his photo of the hole in the roof through which the munition that killed Omar entered the house. Danahar attributed the damage to Israeli munition.
15. Last night I tweeted Danahar to ask on what basis Danahar described the munition as Israeli (as opposed to an errant Hamas rocket). Danahar could illuminate this question, but so far he declines. I have yet to hear back from him.

Brief Adventures in Portlandia

(Steven Hayward)
If you've ever dropped in for an episode of the IFC channel's cult hit mockumentary "Portlandia" and wondered if Portland, Oregon, is really that wacky-crunchy, the answer is an unqualified Yes it is. Even the trees are green there. You think I joke! The public toilet handles are green-and that's not a joke. Let's see, a place where it rains something like 200 days a year needs to save water? (Good to know Portlanders have their numbers 1 & 2 sorted out so well.)
I made a quick overnight visit to Portland this week for a speech, and managed to take in the coffee house scene. Yes, indeed, it seems Portland hipsters really do have their business meetings in coffee houses.
You can take in some samples of IFC's Portlandia here, here, and here. Me-I'm still awaiting season four of Archer to start up early in the new year.
More seriously, if you want to see a good analysis of the deep greenery of these deep blue cities like Portland, see Mark Hendrickson's fine article up right now at Forbes.com.

What free-market medicine looks like
November 15, 2012 by Ed Morrissey
This helpful reminder of the value of price signals comes to us from Reason Magazine and Reason TV, which underscores why ObamaCare won't actually do anything to lower medical costs. Two surgeons in Oklahoma City got tired of working within the third-party-payer construct and started posting cash-up-front retail costs for surgeries on their website. The result? Patients responded to the honest approach, and surgeries took place at a significantly lower cost than within the traditional insurance/Medicare model. Why? Because these patients didn't have to subsidize surgeries for other people - or pay for expensive administrators to deal with the issues arising from the third-party-payer model:

Mapping the Right Road Forward
Big Problems Require Big Solutions
By Mark Alexander · November 15, 2012
"[T]he crisis is arrived when we must assert our rights, or submit to every imposition, that can be heaped upon us, till custom and use shall make us as tame and abject slaves." --George Washington (1774)
I've heard that fruit doesn't fall far from its tree, and have often found that to be true. A bright young Patriot, who also happens to be my high-school daughter, demonstrated this principle just yesterday.
In a post-election summary to our fellow Patriots last week, I included images of election maps that exposed some facts Obama and his Leftist cadres don't want you to contemplate.
Chief among those facts are that the assault on Liberty we witnessed in the presidential election was led, as in 2008, primarily by urban dwellers, most of whom reside on "government plantations," and subsist on the spoils of what Obama calls "redistributive justice." That collectivist constituency now accounts for almost 50 (FIFTY) percent of Obama's voter base. Socialist Democrats have mastered the practice of co-opting (read: "buying") their allegiance and getting them to the polls. The good news is that about nine million fewer Obama voters showed up in 2012.
The county-by-county election maps clearly revealed the geographical delineation between the Left-leaning urban centers and the Right-leaning rest of the nation. Naturally, I observed that this delineation formed reasonable lines for secession, and I recalled these words from fellow Tennessean Nathan Bedford Forrest on the Second War for Independence (as it was known in the South): "I loved the old government. I loved the old Constitution. I do not hate it; I am opposing now only the radical revolutionists who are trying to destroy it."
So, you ask, what does this have to do with fruit trees?
My daughter walked into my home study (affectionately called "The Man Cave" around our house), and she was sporting one of those expressions that conveyed she was on a mission. She asked, "Can I sign a petition for our state to secede?"
Apparently, as you may have heard, some despondent souls across the nation, still licking their wounds after Obama's re-election, are preparing to surrender the future of the Republic. They have launched official secession petitions from all 50 states on the most illogical of places to undertake such folly -- Obama's White House "We the People" page for online petitions, which promises a response from the president to every petition that gathers more than 25,000 signatures.
Those petitions are closing in on a million signatures.
My daughter got wind of this, and she's now ready to grab her M-4 and a case of 5.56 and start over, with her brothers at her side! I love her spirit. She's one of those "quiet girls," but if you're on the wrong side of Liberty, you'd best get out of her field of fire.

Heritage Foundation national security expert James Carafano testified yesterday before the House Foreign Affairs Committee about the September 11 attacks on the U.S. embassy in Benghazi. He said investigators need to focus on four key questions:
|
- What counterterrorism and early warning measures were in place to proactively address security threats?
- What risk assessments were performed and what risk mitigation measures were adopted prior to the attack?
- What contingency planning was undertaken and exercised to respond to armed assaults against U.S. facilities in Benghazi?
- How is the interagency response to the incident organized and managed?
|
| |
To read Carafano's full testimony, click here.
Do you think these hearings will answer the questions that need to be asked to prevent future terrorist attacks?
Heritage Foundation economist Patrick Knudsen explains what Congress should do to solve the "fiscal cliff," the massive tax hikes and defense spending cuts coming in January:
- Preclude the huge tax hike known as Taxmageddon;
- Prevent the reckless, automatic defense cuts, preferably by choosing alternative savings;
- Renounce any other tax increases;
- Resist the temptation to conjure further ad hoc budget schemes and grand bargains; and
- Return as soon as possible to the regular practice of congressional budgeting.
What ideas do you have?
Yes. As Heritage Foundation scholar Patrick Knudsen writes in a new report, to avoid indiscriminately slashing defense spending through the sequestration process, Congress should make deliberate spending reductions in other areas,
Read the appendix of Knudsen's report for details on his $150 billion in proposed cuts, including reductions in energy and transportation subsidies, repealing portions of Obamacare, and reducing food stamp eligibility.
What would you cut from the federal budget?

The Fiscal Cliff and Beyond
In Washington, there is one issue on everyone's minds: the "fiscal cliff." With time running out before a massive tax hike strikes on January 1, and wide-ranging budget cuts scheduled to hit at the same time, the economy is bracing for another storm. Today, five public policy organizations including The Heritage Foundation are presenting their plans to first slam on the brakes before driving off the cliff, and then to reverse course and tackle our massive spending challenges as the federal government moves ever closer to the debt limit. In 2011, the Peter G. Peterson Foundation launched the Solutions Initiative, giving grants to six organizations spanning the ideological spectrum so that they could develop plans for long-term American sustainability. With the fiscal cliff looming, Peterson's Fiscal Solutions Initiative II called for updates to address "2012 Post-Election: The Fiscal Cliff and Beyond." The participants for this second project are The Heritage Foundation, the conservative American Action Forum, the Bipartisan Policy Center, and the liberal Center for American Progress and Economic Policy Institute. In an event that the Peterson Foundation is webcasting now, the organizations are discussing their ideas. To meet this challenge, Heritage Foundation experts updated our Saving the American Dream plan to address the fiscal cliff and then rein in spending. Our plan features a sweeping pro-growth tax reform plan to grow the economy and generate more revenues and a broad restructuring of entitlement programs to provide real economic security to seniors while making the programs affordable. The plan balances the federal budget within 10 years-without raising taxes-and stabilizes and then reduces the debt. The Heritage plan focuses government assistance to those who truly need it, with a guarantee that no American would have to live in poverty. It would also begin to reduce government back to its constitutionally authorized powers and make defense funding a core priority. Of the five plans, Heritage's would reduce government spending the most and would reduce U.S. debt held by the public the most-by a substantial margin. Right now, this measure of the debt stands at 73 percent of gross domestic product (GDP)-in other words, 73 percent of the American economy. Heritage would reduce the debt held by the public to 28 percent of GDP by 2037, while the next-lowest plan by the American Action Forum comes in at 40.1 percent of GDP. Though the Peterson project includes organizations across the ideological spectrum, there are some areas of agreement. For example, "all groups agree that the current level of agricultural subsidies provided by the federal government should be reduced." Every group would lower spending dramatically from its current trajectory, though they take different routes to achieving this. Three of the five groups would extend the expiring 2001 and 2003 Bush tax policies and then undertake fundamental tax reform. The Peterson Foundation concludes that Congress and the President, though divided, could take a lesson from these organizations coming together:
Although the solutions vary widely, it is clear that the United States does not have to endure a damaging drop off the edge of the fiscal cliff, nor do we have to be complacent in the face of an unsustainable long-term trajectory.
You can watch the live webcast of "Post-Election: The Fiscal Cliff and Beyond" today. The event is already underway. Read the Peterson Foundation's full report on the five policy organizations' plans.

Obamacare Will Create Two Americas for Healthcare
This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Ken Klukowski was published on November 14, 2012 on Breitbart.com.
If Obamacare survives the 2016 election after it is fully implemented, there will be two healthcare systems in America from which our citizens will choose. As former Ohio Treasurer Ken Blackwell and I explained months ago, the fifty states can freely choose whether to participate in two central pillars of Obamacare. Conservative governors will be glad in the end, if they hold true to their principles to reject this big-government takeover of healthcare.

Economic Growth, Not Redistribution, Most Benefits the Poor, Working People, and the Middle Class
This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published November 15, 2012 on Forbes.com.
Stephen Moore and Julian L. Simon note in their underappreciated work, It's Getting Better All the Time: 100 Greatest Trends of the Last 100 Years, that in the last century,1900 to 2000, real per capita GDP in America grew by nearly 7 times, meaning the American standard of living grew by that much as well. The authors explain,
"It is hard for us to imagine, for example, that in 1900 less than one in five homes had running water, flush toilets, a vacuum cleaner, or gas or electric heat. As of 1950 fewer than 20 percent of homes had air conditioning, a dishwasher, or a microwave oven. Today between 80 and 100 percent of American homes have all of these modern conveniences."

Disaster Ignorance
This column by ACRU Policy Board Member and Professor of Economics Dr. Walter E. Williams was published November 14, 2012 on Townhall.com.
Here's a which-is-better question for you. Suppose a New Jersey motel room rented for $125 a night prior to Hurricane Sandy's devastation. When the hurricane hits, a husband, wife and their two youngsters might seek the comfort of renting two adjoining rooms. However, when they arrive at the motel, they find that rooms now rent for $250. At that price, they might decide to make do with one room. In my book, that would be wonderful. That decision would make a room available for another family who had to evacuate Sandy's wrath. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and others condemn this as price gouging, but I ask you: Which is preferable for a family seeking shelter -- a room available at $250 or a room unavailable at the pre-hurricane price of $125? It's not the intention of the motel owner to make a room available for another family.

Should We Raise Taxes on the Rich?
This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published November 14, 2012 on The American Spectator website.
Barack Obama says that now that he has been re-elected, that means a majority of Americans agree with him that taxes should be raised on "the rich," so that they would pay their "fair share." But that policy makes no sense from any reasoned perspective. Obama's Tax Increases, Your Unemployment On January 1, the tax increases of Obamacare become effective, and the Bush tax cuts expire, which President Obama refuses to renew for the nation's job creators, investors, and successful small businesses (the plain English translation of "the rich"). That means the top tax rates of nearly every major federal tax will soar.

COMMENTARY: The Malicious Mangling of the Virgin Mary By L. Brent Bozell III On Nov. 13, Simon and Schuster launched a vicious little 96-page novella titled "The Testament of Mary" by an Irish ex-Catholic named Colm Toibin. The book is a gratuitous assault on Christianity and its central drama of salvation. Toibin's last book of literary criticism was titled "New Ways to Kill Your Mother." In this book, he murders the mother of God. Who Fed Susan Rice the Benghazi Bullhockey? By Patrick J. Buchanan U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice was scripted to tell the nation the attack in Benghazi was not "preplanned," when that is exactly what it was. And here we come to the heart of the matter. Why would the administration hierarchy collaborate in putting out a phony story denying there had been a terrorist attack and attributing it to a spontaneous riot that never happened? What was behind the cover-up is what Congress needs to find out. How's That Obamacare Waiver Workin' Out for Ya? By Michelle Malkin Exactly two years ago this week, the Obama administration announced it had issued more than 100 waivers en masse to a select group of companies, unions and other health insurance providers seeking relief from the onerous federal health care law. The Obamacare waiver winner's club now totals 2,000. But these businesses are now in the same miserable boat as every other unlucky business struggling with the crushing costs and burdens of the Obamacare mandate. Duck Soup By Rich Galen The question is: Was the CIA director distracted by his fear that his affair would become public and therefore not operating at full speed during and the days after Benghazi?

Why land for peace is dead
Special to CNN | By Michael Rubin | November 15th, 2012
Editor's note: Michael Rubin is a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute and senior lecturer at the Naval Postgraduate School. The views expressed are his own. On September 18, 1978, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin signed the so-called Camp David Accords, cementing the notion that land for peace would become the basis for a resolution of the Arab-Israel conflict. Their agreement led to a peace treaty the following year between Israel and Egypt. However the current fighting between Israel and Palestinian groups in the Gaza Strip ends, one thing is certain: the era of land-for-peace is over. At first, Jimmy Carter's land-for-peace formula looked promising. One in three Arabs lived in Egypt. Within the White House and at Foggy Bottom, presidents and diplomats believed that where Egypt went, so would go the Arab world. Hence, the precedent of trading the Sinai for peace became a source of hope. It was this example that Bill Clinton sought to capitalize upon in the 1993 Oslo Accords. The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) agreed to recognize Israel and work toward peace in exchange for land in historical Palestine. I was in Bahrain in 1994 when PLO chairman Yasser Arafat entered the Gaza Strip to establish the Palestinian Authority. Enthusiasm was palpable across the region. Within weeks, Jordan had signed its own peace accord with Israel, and Persian Gulf emirates, Tunisia, and Morocco looked like they might follow suit.

TSA Unionized - Americans Screwed
by Tim Brown | November 17, 2012
How are those airport grope downs, naked body scanners, thefts and humiliation working out for ya at your local airport? Well, now you can not only feel safer when you fly, but you have the comfort of knowing that those "security professionals" of the Transportation Security Administration are federalized, but now they are also unionized. On November 9, 2012 the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) issued a press release indicating that "Workers at the Transportation Security Administration made history today when they voted to ratify the first-ever collective bargaining agreement at the agency. The agreement between the American Federation of Government Employees and TSA was ratified with a vote of 17,326-1,774." The AFGE represents over 650,000 employees of the federal government. It is the largest union for non-postal federal employees and the largest union for D.C. workers who report directly to the mayor.

The way forward
The Washington Post | by Charles Krauthammer Nov 09, 2012
They lose and immediately the chorus begins. Republicans must change or die. A rump party of white America, it must adapt to evolving demographics or forever be the minority.
The only part of this that is even partially true regards Hispanics. They should be a natural Republican constituency: striving immigrant community, religious, Catholic, family-oriented and socially conservative (on abortion, for example).
The principal reason they go Democratic is the issue of illegal immigrants. In securing the Republican nomination, Mitt Romney made the strategic error of (unnecessarily) going to the right of Rick Perry. Romney could never successfully tack back.
For the party in general, however, the problem is hardly structural. It requires but a single policy change: Border fence plus amnesty. Yes, amnesty. Use the word. Shock and awe - full legal normalization (just short of citizenship) in return for full border enforcement.

Morality and Warfare in Gaza
Jonathan S. Tobin | 11.16.2012
In Alana's post about Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren's conference call this morning, she reported his comments about the difficulty of trying to fight a war against an immoral foe while preserving your own morality:
The ambassador said Israel has destroyed many of Hamas's long-range missiles in its first-stage air strikes, but that they couldn't be completely successful "because of considerations of collateral damage." In one case, an Israeli pilot refrained from striking a long-range missile because the pilot noticed children in the vicinity, Oren said. That missile was later launched into Tel Aviv. The action of that Israeli pilot must be seen as praiseworthy since it showed that even in the midst of a conflict in which his country's security is at risk, that officer was still concerned about saving the lives of Palestinian children. Even if Hamas hides its forces behind civilians, the rules of engagement for Israel's soldiers require them not to deliberately place innocents at risk even if it confers a military advantage on the terrorists. That is the sort of decision that is in accord with the values that democratic Israel prizes as well as those of Judaism. But this anecdote raises more questions than it answers. It may, in fact, be an apt metaphor for the problems that Israel faces in its conflict with Hamas. One needn't be a bloodthirsty militarist or be indifferent to morality or to the dictates of international opinion to understand that the consequences of such a policy may not always advance humanitarian goals.

Al Gore wanted the Firenado -- so why did he get denied?
You may recall a crazy viral video a few months ago shot by an Australian filmmaker named Chris Tangey that featured something being called a Firenado. It was a tornado that was basically on fire. He didn't fall for it -- Tangey tells the story to Glenn on radio today.
