Petraeus Scandal Reveals Massive Islamic Infiltration In Obama Administration
ShaJill Khawam Kelley was the hand-picked lobbyist for Muslim nations and their agenda at Central Command
Gen. David Petraeus with the Arab Nations' Agent of Influence at Central Command, Jill Kelley
Kelley, who is part of the soap opera that the Petraeus scandal spawned, was in charge of hosting parties and social events to push the Islamic agenda of Middle Eastern countries. She was seen by Muslim Mid-East nations, especially Hezbollah-controlled Lebanon, as the "go to" woman to push their agenda on top American generals. She was a lobbyist for their cause and, yet, wasn't required to register as a lobbyist, like all others who host lavish parties for top American officials, like she did, in an attempt to influence U.S. policy in the Middle East.
Kelley, a dhimmi Christian Arab of Lebanese descent, was well known in the Muslim Arab embassies of Washington for doing their bidding and hosting their parties at and near MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, where our nation's top generals are based. It's where Central Command-the U.S. Armed Forces' leadership over wars and military personnel Middle East-is headquartered.
When a friend of mine said that he thought the financially troubled Khawam sisters, Kelley and Natalie Khawam, were spies for Lebanon and the Arab world, I originally expressed skepticism. I believed that these twin sisters with obvious twin nose jobs were merely bimbo gold diggers in slutty outfits, who used their Delilah ways to first nab rich husbands, and then nab idiotic top American generals to participate in Lifetime-Channel-worthy bitter child custody disputes. But then I learned that Ms. Kelley, who was until this week under the radar, was quietly involved in pushing the agenda of Muslim Arab nations on our nation's top generals with whom she'd grown close by design. I don't think it's a coincidence that Ms. Kelley got her hooks into our two top generals in the Middle East, David Petraeus and John Allen. I'm now convinced that my friend, lawyer Gary Welsh of Advance Indiana, who has excellent instincts, was correct.
REPORT: Iran's Revolutionary Guards overseeing missile fire
Aiding jihadist groups as they launch projectiles into Jewish state
by Aaron Klein
TEL AVIV - Advisers from Iran's Revolutionary Guard Units are in the Gaza Strip helping to oversee the firing of long-range rockets by jihadist groups there, according to informed Middle Eastern security officials.
The information comes as the Iranian-backed Islamic Jihad group today claimed responsibility for what it said was missile fire at Tel Aviv. The organization has claimed it fired Iranian Fajr-5 missiles aimed at Tel Aviv.
Earlier today, one rocket launched from the Gaza Strip landed in Rishon Letzion, some seven miles south of Tel Aviv. About three hours later another explosion was heard in the Tel Aviv area.
No casualties were reported in either Tel Aviv or Rishon Leztion.
Since yesterday, Israel's Iron Dome anti-missile defense system has intercepted 105 rockets, while 274 rockets have struck Israel, mostly in cities near the Gaza Strip.
U.S. State Dept. Now Warns Americans In Jordan - And a Source on the Ground Explains How Bad It's Getting
The Blaze | by Mike Opelka | Posted on November 16, 2012 at 8:31am
As the world focuses on the escalating military action between Israel and Hamas, it appears that Jordan is about to experience its "Arab Spring" and the U.S. State Department is sending warnings to Americans in the region.
One U.S. businesswoman in Jordan has sent text messages (which TheBlaze has seen) from Amman back to America with her observations about the riots and what's causing them:
"The angry rioters aside, many Jordanians DO believe the fuel crisis was an intentional power play by the Brotherhood to deepen unrest in Jordan in order to take over the political apparatus (i.e. we will save you from the bad government that's trying to starve and freeze us). They also think there isn't a helluva lot the King or anyone else can do about since it is widely believed-whether true or not-that the US is supporting the Brotherhood's regional rise to power. So the mainstream majority here is basically just trying to stay out of the fray in the streets and waiting for what they're convinced is inevitable anyway."
The action on the streets also prompted the U.S. State Department to issue an emergency warning to American citizens in the country, and TheBlaze has obtained a copy:
Emergency Message for U.S. Citizens
Subject: Due to Fuel Protests, Defer Non-Essential Travel Throughout Jordan
Spontaneous, sometimes violent, demonstrations have continued throughout the day across Jordan, including in Amman. These unpredictable protests (as well as some planned events) may continue through the weekend. Multiple, confirmed reports indicate that protesters have blocked major highways at different locations, and that the security services have used non-lethal measures to disperse crowds. The police are unable to predict when these closures will take place and how long it will take to re-open the roads. While there is no indication that these events are directed at Americans or foreigners, the U.S. Embassy advises all U.S. citizens to defer all non-essential travel through Saturday, November 17.

The U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel on Thursday told American citizens in the country it would be operating at "reduced staffing levels" and suspending routine services Friday following a barrage of Hamas-fired rockets from the Gaza Strip, including an explosion heard in Tel Aviv.
The U.S. Embassy will be operating at reduced staffing levels on Friday, November 16, and routine consular services are being suspended for that same day. Embassy families have been asked to not send their children to school on Friday, November 16. Non-essential official travel by Embassy staff to the south of Israel remains prohibited.
U.S. citizens are encouraged to exercise caution and take appropriate measures to ensure their safety and security in light of the escalating level of violence in Gaza and Israel. U.S. citizens should pay close attention to their surroundings and news reports, and follow the civil defense guidance provided by the Home Front Command. The Government of Israel's Home Front Command website provides information on how to choose a secure space or room in a home or apartment. Visitors may also seek information on shelters from hotel staff or building managers. Please click here for further emergency preparedness guidance provided by the Home Front Command.
Violent Economic Riots Prompt Question: Is Jordan Next in Line for 'Arab Spring'?
The Blaze | by Sharona Schwartz | Posted on November 16, 2012 at 6:27am
Riots in Jordan (photo credit: MEMRI)
Could the revolutionary spirit that brought to power the new Islamist regimes in Egypt and Tunisia find a new destination, Jordan, and threaten the Hashemite monarchy of King Abdullah? That possibility became a whole lot more realistic after several days of fiery, violent protests this week in the Middle Eastern nation that has so far been spared the so-called "Arab Spring."
Add to this the explosion of violence underway in next-door Israel and Gaza and the threat of spillover could make an unstable situation even worse for King Abdullah, who for years has been a force for stability in a volatile region.
Cardinal Dolan: U.S. Catholic bishops won't comply with Obama rule on birth control coverage in insurance
November 15, 2012
A top American bishop said Tuesday the Roman Catholic church will not comply with the Obama administration requirement that most employers provide health insurance covering birth control.
New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, said church leaders are open to working toward a resolution with federal officials, but will meanwhile press ahead with challenges to the mandate in legislatures and in court.
"The only thing we're certainly not prepared to do is give in. We're not violating our consciences," Dolan told reporters at a national bishops' meeting. "I would say no door is closed except for the door to capitulation."
The bishops have been fighting the regulation since it was announced by President Barack Obama early this year. Houses of worship are exempt, but religiously affiliated hospitals, charities and colleges are not.
Shalom ZOA Members, Friends and Supporters of Israel,
After suffering hundreds of rocket attacks from Palestinian-Arabs in just the past week, Israel has chosen to respond by striking against the terrorists in Gaza. Though we are thousands of miles away, we can help and play a role.
There will be a demonstration is support of Israel tomorrow (Friday) - See graphic below. Bring Israel and American flags!
Below is background information, examples of anti-Israel media bias and great responses from Israeli spokespersons that you can watch and use to make the case for Israel, as well as examples that show yet again what a humane nation Israelis are -- even in the face of deadly attacks.
One important point: The Palestinian-Arab terrorists intentionally operate from heavily-populated civilian areas and store rockets at and fire them from schools, hospitals and mosques. They do this in the hopes of maximizing their own civilian casualties because they know the media and international community will seize upon this to vilify Israel.
Palestinian-Arab rockets today hit the Tel Aviv area for the first time, and 5 million Israelis are now within rocket range. Families have spent days living in bomb shelters.
Please be both pro-active and reactive in helping Israel during this crisis. Make sure your friends, family, neighbors and colleagues understand what is happening and why. There is a tremendous information gap along with the usual misinformation campaign. People are largely uninformed or under-informed. You can be their news source. You can post news on Facebook and Twitter as well.
If you see examples of anti-Israel media bias in print, TV or radio or Internet news, please call, send an email or post a comment. Be pro-active by sending letters-to-the-editor in support of Israel. Please see attached media contact information.
Senator Casey and some colleagues have issued a statement supporting Israel (see below). Congressman Brady has also issued a statement in support. Statements from other local members of Congress may be forthcoming. See statements below. Call them to thank them. Please contact our other area senators as well as House members and ask that they please issue similar statements. Please see attached contact information.
If you have friends or family in Israel, please stay in contact with them, reassure them and let them know that Americans are trying to help them.
This Shabbat, say an extra prayer in support of Israel and her men and women in uniform, as well as her leaders, and thank Hashem for keeping Israeli casualties to a minimum.
Please share this email with all of your contacts. It is our duty to help our brothers and sisters in Israel.
Thank you.

America has arrived at a critical juncture in its history. as a nation, we can either reverse our current course-one that leads to a country of the government, by the government, and for the government-or we can chart a new course that will, once again, be guided by the principles for which our Founders pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor. AMERICAN JEWS AND CHRISTIAN EVANGELICALS: IRRECONCILABLE ENEMIES OR INEVITABLE ALLIES?
Michael Medved is a nationally syndicated radio talk show host and bestselling author. His daily show is heard by over 3.75 million people across the country. Born in Philadelphia, Michael won admission to Yale at age 16 as a National Merit Scholar. He majored in American History and graduated with honors, before attending Yale Law School, where his classmates included Bill and Hillary Clinton. Michael wrote his first bestseller at age 26 - "What Really Happened to the Class of '65?" - a skeptical reconsideration of the "counterculture" of the 1960's that became a weekly TV series on NBC.
Many American Jews distrust and even fear the rise of the evangelical Christianity. They see this religious movement as a threat to the survival of Judaism in the United States and to the continuance of a society that values pluralism and religious liberty. On the other hand increasing numbers of American Jews view evangelicals as natural allies, not just when it comes to support of Israel, but on a range of social issues here in the U.S. In this provocative presentation, Michael Medved will explain where Jews and Christians already agree, and where they can never agree, in their participation in the ongoing battles shaping American society.

The Brothers Who Busted Philly Unions. For Good.
Brutish threats, expletive-heavy protests, oil poured at construction-site entrances-for years, Philly unions have used intimidation and bully tactics to protect their power. Then two young developers set up cameras and a website, and set in motion the most dramatic power shift the city has seen in generations.
By Steve Volk
November 2012
All of the videos are voyeuristic-surveillance-quality film of a construction site. The worst ones, shot from three different angles on a sunny day in July 2012, involve the fence:
Fred Cosenza Slaps Security Guard
On the screen we see an engineering contractor who wants to enter the controversial Goldtex construction site at 12th and Wood streets, only to find his path blocked by eight union men. With mincing steps, the non-union contractor-a middle-aged man in a blue short-sleeved shirt-tries to sneak in behind them, sidling through a narrow gap between a temporary chain-link fence and a stone wall. But the union men spot him, move toward the fence, and start to lean against it. Then we see four of them take turns pushing-using the fence like a microscope slide to fix the contractor against the wall. In one of the videos, you can hear the man start to cry out, his voice tremulous as he's crushed. Finally, he slumps to the ground.
Now that Obama has won reelection, news of how he plans to run his new administration has been springing forth fast and furiously.Despite alluding to a time of peace in his reelection speech last week, the latest on foreign policy going forward indicates otherwise.Like so many other issues, the new foreign policy agenda would have been nice to know before the election.According to the LA Times, Iran, Syria, Afghanistan and missile defense are all currently being "reassessed"by the Obama administration.
Previously, the policy on Iran has been limited to diplomacy and sanctions. The week before the election, Iran fired on an American drone; an event that wasn't made public until 2 days after the election.President Obama responded the same day the news was released as he has before, with more sanctions against Iran. The sanctions weren't because of the drone attack, however, the administration claimed they were because Iran was "jamming satellite broadcasts and blocking Internet access for ordinary Iranians."Iran responded in their usual fashion in a statement by the Vice President of Iran saying, "We will break [the] grasping hands of Obama and we will be successful in bypassing the sanctions."This week, the White House is indicating it is open to resuming negotiations with Iran that could result in Iran continuing to enrich "low level" uranium, while the international community "monitors" the situation.. . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3.Presidential Politics Does Not Define Conservatism
Allow me just to repeat the title of this post: presidential politics does not-and should not-define conservatism.I will confess this is a bit of a pet peeve of mine.Every cycle many on the right seem to believe the GOP primary and then the general election results define conservatism.Folks are excommunicated for whom they support and the results are cited as proof of the life or death of the movement.
This is neither healthy nor effective. The conservative movement is a complex coalition of people and ideas that seek to impact popular culture, public policy and electoral politics based on its ideals and principles. To take something this complex and diverse and equate it with an election at the highest possible level is to both over-simplify and devalue it. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4.Obama's I won, let's compromise and do things my way post-election press conference
On Tuesday, President Obama held the 16th "full" White House press conference of his presidency. That's right Obama goes golfing more than six times for every press conference he gives.
This was the first scheduled, solo news conference for Obama since March. The last time Obama saw fit to allow the White House press corps an opportunity to formally ask him questions on U.S. soil was his "hastily-announced" appearance in the White House briefing room on June 8, 2012, during which he infamously said "the private sector is doing fine." . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

America Votes to End Modern Civilization
By Daren Jonescu
Did you happen to catch the end of civilization on TV last week?
The 2012 U.S. election will likely be judged by men thousands of years hence as a world historical event, on a par with the Peloponnesian War, the assassination of Julius Caesar, the Copernican Revolution or the Battle of Waterloo. If this seems hyperbolic to you, that is probably because we have never seen an epoch-making moment quite like this one. For this is perhaps the first time history has been "fundamentally transformed," if you will, by an electoral majority.
Consider, first of all that although democracy, in any recognizable sense, began in Greece 2500 years ago, it also died in Greece 2300 years ago. Subsequently, it existed only rarely and in very limited forms throughout most of the centuries prior to the modern era. General elections of the modern sort, then, in which governing bodies and policies are broadly chosen or altered by public vote, actually have a very short cumulative history.
Furthermore, consider that we usually judge the ultimate significance of elections in retrospect, rather than in anticipation. We speculate, for example, on how different America, and consequently the world, might have been had Abraham Lincoln not been elected in 1860, or Ronald Reagan in 1980. Events that unfolded after the election cause us to wax philosophical about things that might have been, just as we can wonder how the modern world might have evolved had Shakespeare never taken up writing. But rarely if ever has the election itself, rather than its aftermath, been the historically defining moment.
In addition, most democratic elections are limited in their primary significance to the nation that is voting. The election of Margaret Thatcher and the Conservative Party, for example, had international ramifications of great import, but these were nevertheless merely byproducts of Thatcher's significance as the melody of Britain's swan song, a once-great nation's last dalliance with reason and righteousness.
In general, even the most important elections in the histories of nations have lacked the defining characteristics of those temporal events that we normally regard as being of world historical relevance. Such events may be seen, at least with benefit of hindsight, as having essentially altered the trajectory of civilization (for better or worse), which is to say that the times that followed cannot properly be understood at all independently of those monumental, redirecting moments. Once again, actions taken in the aftermath of democratic elections have occasionally had this kind of importance; elections themselves have not.
The election of November 6, 2012 was different. It was, as I have argued, a referendum on the principles of modern civilization itself, and a referendum which, for very concrete reasons, was a world event.
. . .
With perfect, nearly poetic irony, modern civilization was ended by popular vote. If you cannot accept this -- if you are like the Republican Party establishment, the Washington pundits, and all others in whom the balm of incrementalism has produced the intellectual and moral paralysis of disbelief -- then you are of no use to us now. Get out of our way.
Dwight Schultz, Nonie Darwish and Tommi Trudeau ponder when the Radical-in-Chief will disclose his real agenda -- and the nightmare that expects us. Read More » | Comments

Is Obama hiding the truth about Benghazi because the truth would impeach him?
- Judi McLeodThursday, November 15, 2012
Even with his own reelection soundly in the bag, President Barack Obama is keeping the truth about the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi as secret as his own locked-from-public-knowledge credentials.
With four more years in his pocket to complete his destructive Fundamental Transformation of America, Obama is refusing outright to inform Americans why calls for help from American Libyan Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans to save their lives were ignored until their own violent deaths silenced them.
This was Obama's non-answer to Fox News reporter Ed Henry's simple question at the White House yesterday:

General David Petraeus has, in war, been a hero. In public service too he was a national asset. Certainly it could not be the national betrayal spoken of by Ben Stein this week at Spectator.org, could it?

IMPORTANT AND TIME-SENSITIVE LEGISLATIVE ACTION ALERT! PLEASE ASK YOUR MEMBER OF THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO SIGN REP. JEFF DUNCAN'S LETTER OPPOSING SUSAN RICE AS SECRETARY OF STATE! http://www.capwiz.com/actforamerica/dbq/officials/
We understand that President Obama may be considering Ambassador Susan Rice to serve as U.S. Secretary of State if Hillary Clinton steps down as expected.
We assume that this possibility is as shocking to you as it is to us; particularly considering the unconscionable misinformation campaign that Ms. Rice was a part of immediately following the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi-an attack that resulted in the brutal murder of four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens.
As you will recall, days after the violence against our embassy in Benghazi, Ms. Rice went on numerous television shows claiming that the attack was spontaneous and solely due to a low budget You Tube video-instead of recognizing it for the act of terrorism that it clearly was.
In response to the outlandish possibility that Ambassador Rice is indeed being considered as a possible next Secretary of State, Congressman Jeff Duncan (R-SC) is circulating a congressional letter to President Obama expressing strong opposition to the nomination of Ms. Rice for this important post. Today, he will be asking every member of the U.S. House of Representatives to join with him by signing the letter.
The letter states, in part "we, the undersigned are deeply troubled by reports that you may be considering Ambassador Susan Rice to succeed Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State," and further, that "Ambassador Rice is widely viewed as having either willfully or incompetently misled the American public in the Benghazi matter." The letter ends by stating "we strongly oppose any efforts to nominate Ambassador Susan Rice for the position of Secretary of State."
We need your help to see that every Member of the U.S. House of Representatives adds his or her name to this critical statement of opposition. Please see below exactly what help we need today. *** Important Action Item ***
Congressman Duncan's letter will be circulated around the U.S. House of Representatives for signatures today and is expected to be sent to the President tomorrow, Friday, so time is of the essence!
Today, please call YOUR member of the U.S. House of Representatives and ask him/her to sign on to the letter that Congressman Duncan is circulating, opposing the nomination of Susan Rice to serve as our U.S. Secretary of State.
NOTE: If you need help locating your elected official, visit our Contact Congress page by clicking HERE. Type in your zip code where indicated to locate your U.S. legislators. Click on your Representative and you can then see his/her contact information, including the phone number of the Washington, DC office. If you know the name of your U.S. Representative, you also can call the Congressional Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask for that particular office.
Please make your call NOW! Politely let your Representative know about Rep. Duncan's letter and ask that he/she sign on in support. Further, let your Representative know that you, too, strongly OPPOSE the nomination of Ambassador Susan Rice as Secretary of State. (Be clear that you are a constituent!)
Thank you for all that you do.
REMEMBER, YOUR VOICE COUNTS! IF EACH OF US DOES JUST A LITTLE, TOGETHER WE CAN ACCOMPLISH A LOT!
The silver lining of l'affair Petraeus might lead the mainstream media to finally notice a scandal that, by rights, could bring down President Obama, the same way that Watergate (summer of 1972) eventually ended the presidency of Richard Milhous Nixon in 1974.
If I were a writer of crime and suspense novels -- oh, wait, I am a writer of crime and suspense novels -- the machinations behind the burgeoning sex scandal centering on former CIA Director David Petraeus would go something like this.
You cannot cater to someone's false caricature of your belief system or behavior in hopes that the bearer of the falsehoods will take a liking to you. Instead, he will believe himself validated -- you really are the amoral player he thought you were -- or, if a thug, he will smell blood.
The Department of Labor has announced that new jobless claims rose by a staggering 78,000 in the first week after the election, reaching a seasonally-adjusted total of 439,000. Over the past year, and in the weeks leading up to the election, jobless claims were said to be declining, dipping as low as 339,000, with the media proclaiming that they had reached the "lowest level in more than four years." Now, suddenly, the news seems far less rosy.

If secession could only be achieved by force of arms or a court decision the "Peaceful Secession" movement would be futile. But "secession" need not involve brick and mortar barriers. The spirit of secession can be far more effective in dealing with a federal government gone rogue - it can stop it cold.
But as was the case in 1776 it seems that some who would be expected to come to the "Peaceful Secession" cause have not. Some self -identified conservatives actually seem to believe the only reason to sign a secession petition is because you REALLY believe doing so will bring about a new separate nation in North America. This is the narrowest view of the possibilities involved.
I have been accosted by numerous friends and acquaintances recently, Barack Obama acolytes all, with a smug attitude of superiority concerning the re-election of the President. As though the election was a personal contest between myself and them, and they won.
No American citizen is the winner of this election.
I have pointed out, especially to my fellow workers, that their choice will bring about a reduced work week for all of us, to 29 hours, due to the onerous regulations of the Obamacare law. We will have less money in our pocket. (1)
I have pointed out that we will now most surely be facing electric rates that under Obama's plan, in his words, will "necessarily skyrocket." We will have to pay these rates with less money in our pocket.(2)
In his book "Capitalism and Freedom" (1962) Milton Friedman (1912-2006) advocated minimizing the role of government in a free market as a means of creating political and social freedom.

Cybersecurity Bill Suffers Another Defeat - Obama Signs Secret Directive
Desperate Senate leaders eager for control of the internet, brought the Cybersecurity Act of 2012 back to the Senate floor for a vote yesterday, and once again they failed. It was just a couple of votes shy of passing (51-47), but one vote closer than when it was presented back in August (52-46).
During a conference call with donors, Mitt Romney reportedly said that President Obama targeted certain demographic groups, such as African-Americans, Hispanics, and young voters, by conferring "gifts" on them. Among the gifts Romney reportedly cited were Obamacare and "amnesty" for children of illegal immigrants.
Romney's remarks were made to a private audience. However, reporters from the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times apparently were able to listen in on the call.
Romney is said to have "blamed" his defeat on the "gifts" bestowed by Obama. However, the quotations that appear in the New York Times report don't fully support this characterization.
"High-minded" Republican politicians and commentators promptly attacked Romney. For example, Governor Bobby Jindal said he "absolutely rejects" Romney's contention. He added that Republicans must "stop dividing American voters" and "fight for 100 percent of the vote."
Jindal's response, which is similar to that of Governor Scott Walker, represents standard-issue political happy talk. The Democrats engaged in it after their defeat in 2004 - recall the 50 state strategy of their chairman, Howard Dean. But the Dems never pursued such a strategy. And this year they reverted entirely to the standard "50 percent plus one" strategy, using just the kind of pandering Romney described.
Jindal and Walker can be excused for their "high-mindedness." After all, they intend to run for office - and maybe high office - in the future. But Romney is done with politics, and can speak his mind (unfortunately, he also spoke his mind to donors while he was still a candidate).
To what extent is Romney right? I don't consider Obamacare as a whole to be pandering or a "gift." It is better viewed, as Seth Mandel says, as an attempt (albeit misguided) to solve a very real national problem along traditional Democratic Party lines. But Romney reportedly focused on the aspects of Obamacare that allow young adults to stay on their parents' health care plan and that provide free birth control. These are gifts.
Any benefit conferred upon illegal aliens (including the offspring of those who entered the country illegal) should also be view as a gift, since by law they should not even be in the U.S. The expansion of the food stamp program is a gift, albeit one that began under George W. Bush. So is forgiveness of student loans.
I doubt that Jindal and Walker put themselves through the painful experience of watching every night of the Democratic convention, as I did. If they had, they would be hard-pressed to deny, or underestimate the extent of, Democratic pandering to specific demographic groups - the ones, in fact, that probably put Obama over the top in a pretty close race.
To attribute Romney's defeat to Democratic pandering to losers, have-nots, and the immature may not be the best way to talk about the matter. But it is not an unreasonable way to view it.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is one of soccer's true super stars, and probably its most underrated (though not by me, I had him in my Euro 2012 all-star team even though his team, Sweden, didn't make it out of the group stage). Ibrahimovic has scored prolifically, and often "for fun," at the club level (including for the top clubs in Italy, Spain, and France). And, despite playing internationally for so-so Sweden, he has a better goals-per-match ratio than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have managed for Argentina and Portugal, respectively. Yet Ibrahimovic is seldom mentioned as being in their class, or even that of Naymar, Brazil's latest bright young thing.
Even so, Ibrahimovic is one of the very few individual footballers I'd pay good money to see play, and I had the opportunity to do so this summer when he played in Washington, D.C. with his new club Paris St. Germain. He didn't disappoint, producing a goal early in the exhibition before being replaced.
Ibrahamovic isn't known for spectacular goals, which may be one reason why he's under-appreciated. However, he delivered a candidate for goal of the decade yesterday in a "friendly" match against England. Having already produced a hat-trick, the Swede (of central European origin) scored a goal like none I've ever seen. Here it is:
Meanwhile, Naymar, who in fairness is another I'd pay to see, produced this missed penalty kick against Columbia yesterday.
1) Don't emphasize abortion, but don't walk away from the issue, either, when issues legitimately arise, as with respect to public funding. When pressed on the subject, don't be defensive, but respond by pointing out the Democrats' extremism. 2) Take a big-tent approach to gay marriage that emphasizes the need to resolve the issue democratically, not by judicial decree, and that makes it clear that there is room in the party for both those who favor and those who oppose gay marriage. 3) Bring welfare back as a political issue, by pointing out the extraordinary amount of money that we currently spend on means-tested programs, the waste and fraud that is endemic to those programs, and the social damage that is done by them.
It's a good prescription, I think, and I certainly agree that Republicans must provide room for those on both sides of the gay marriage debate.
But a friend points out that John's prescription doesn't differ materially from the approach Mitt Romney took during his unsuccessful campaign. Romney didn't emphasize abortion or gay marriage; he never tried to read those who favor gay marriage out of the Republican Party; and he talked about the explosion of welfare in the form of food stamps.
Yet, Team Obama still successfully pushed its "war on women" theme. And Romney still lost big among young voters in part because he is not as socially liberal as President Obama.
In a way, the problem Republicans face with these voters - unmarried women and millenials - is similar to the problem they face with Hispanics. Republicans can re-calibrate their positions on immigration, birth control/abortion, and gay marriage. But they will never match the Democrats, who will always be able to find some cutting edge goody or grievance (not to mention some ill-advised statement by some Republican somewhere) about which to posture.
To be sure, re-calibration can marginally improve Republican standing with Hispanics, unmarried women, and milenials. But in the case of social issues, at least, that marginal improvement would come at a big cost - the erosion of support among evangelicals.
Abortion and gay marriage did not replace welfare and crime as the "social issues" component of the "three-legged stool" just to provide symmetry. These issues rose to prominence because, to millions of conservative voters, they are more important than any other set of issues.
Mitt Romney appears to have done pretty well with evangelicals without emphasizing the issues most important to them (we'll see whether in-depth analyses confirm this). But a presidential candidate who re-calibrates much more than Romney did on social issues runs a serious risk of sustaining a serious loss of support among evangelicals in exchange for minimal gains among those who were turned off by the relatively innocuous Mitt Romney.
JOHN adds: I agree that Romney wasn't far off from my prescriptions. The problem was that the party as a whole wasn't on the same page. In particular, Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock did grievous harm, I think, to Romney and many other Republican candidates. Nor was the problem limited to a couple of flakes. Here in Minnesota, to take one instance, by far the most energy in this election cycle was generated by opponents of a ballot initiative to bar gay marriage. Turnout was, I believe, a record high, and as a result the Democrats recaptured both houses of the legislature from the GOP.
I also agree that on issues like abortion and gay marriage, the Democrats will always be able to appeal more strongly to those with liberal views. But my point is not that Republicans should adopt liberal views on the social issues and thereby compete for the votes of radical feminists, etc., but rather that by approaching the issues in a more modulated way, they can keep the votes of social conservatives while not alienating those in the middle. This is, to be sure, something of a balancing act, but I think it has become clear that the current perception, that Republicans as a party are on the rightward fringe of the social issues, is hurting the party with moderates. And hitting hard on the welfare issue potentially can help the GOP with both conservative and moderate voters; really, just about everyone except the hard left.
Referring to the BBC video we posted here, reader Jed Flint has kindly forwarded this "helpful photo montage from the YouTube video with bonus 'bits and pieces' scratching action!" Mr. Flint, thanks for the help.
If you've never read Leonard Read's classic essay "I, Pencil," about how the manufacture of a simple (yet not so simple) pencil is coordinated by the marketplace rather than by a central planner, you've missed a treat. Last fall I had frequent installments here drawn from the wisdom of F.A. Hayek, and "I, Pencil" is an inverse illustration of the problem of economic coordination that Hayek spent so much of his career exploring and explaining. So here's just one more summary from Hayek, from his later work Law, Legislation and Liberty:
The characteristic error of the constructive rationalists in this respect is that they tend to base their argument on what has been called the synoptic delusion, that is, on the fiction that all the relevant facts are known to some one mind, and that it is possible to construct from this knowledge of the particulars a desirable social order.
Meanwhile, our friends at the Competitive Enterprise Institute commissioned my pal Nick Tucker to turn "I, Pencil" into a short film. And here it is, splendidly done, in only six minutes:
Demography is destiny
Dear Fellow Conservative,
Liberals brag about having won the hearts and minds of America, as if, through logic and argument, they've persuaded people to accept their bankrupt European socialist ideas.
Democrats haven't changed anyone's mind. They changed the people.
More white people voted for Mitt Romney this year than voted for Ronald Reagan in 1980. Barack Obama lost white voters by 20 points -- the widest margin since 1984.

Barack Obama held his first press conference in months yesterday. Was news made? Did we learn anything new? Not really. As one commentator remarked, Obama's press conferences are like Obama's speeches interrupted by friendly questions. This front page Washington Post headline says it all: "Meeting The Press, Taking A Victory Lap."
Typical of the arrogance we have regularly witnessed from this White House, Obama's comments yesterday amounted to little more than a reiteration of his dismissive "I won" quip to congressional Republicans four years ago. Once again, Obama claimed a mandate to raise taxes. Presumably, House Republicans also have a mandate not to raise taxes.
The one part of the press conference where Obama potentially made news was his combative and aggressive response to a question about Republican opposition to promoting U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice to Secretary of State. Here was Obama's response:
"As I've said before, she made an appearance at the request of the White House in which she gave her best understanding of the intelligence that had been provided to her. If Senator McCain and Senator Graham and others want to go after somebody, they should go after me. ...But for them to go after the U.N. ambassador, who had nothing to do with Benghazi and was simply making a presentation based on intelligence that she had received and to besmirch her reputation is outrageous."
We've said this before, and yesterday Obama seemingly confirmed it: Rice was sent out to give the administration's line precisely because she "had nothing to do with Benghazi."
As Obama admitted yesterday, Rice "made an appearance at the request of the White House in which she gave her best understanding of the intelligence that had been provided to her."
The U.N. ambassador may have been the only administration spokesperson with credibility on foreign policy who didn't know what happened on September 11, 2012, and who could be sent on national television to unknowingly propagate a lie.
Israel Under Siege
Tensions and hostilities are escalating in the Middle East. Three Israelis were killed in Kiryat Malahi when a rocket fired from Gaza struck an apartment building. In the past day, 250 rockets and mortars have been fired by Palestinian militants into Israel. Yet the world, including President Obama, is urging Israel to "show restraint" and "limit civilian casualties."
The media are covering this story as if it all started yesterday, and, once again, Israel is being accused of perpetuating a "cycle of violence." Israel is trying to end the cycle of violence!
The New York Times acknowledges that "Southern Israel has been struck by more than 750 rockets fired from Gaza this year" by Hamas and Palestinian extremists. The world seems to have a very high tolerance for dead or wounded Jews.
Israel finally did what every other responsible sovereign nation would do -- it took action and made those responsible for the repeated attacks pay a heavy price. Ahmed Jaabari was a terrorist thug. The civilized world and all those who cherish the rule of law and decency should be applauding Israel's actions and condemning the rocket attacks from Hamas and other Islamic extremists.
Meanwhile Egypt's new president, Mohamed Morsi, declared in a nationally televised speech that "all of Egypt is standing with all its resources to stop this assault, to prevent the killing and the bloodshed of Palestinians." Morsi also recalled Egypt's ambassador to Israel. So let's get this straight: The Palestinians launch 750 rockets at Israel, Israel responds and Egypt condemns Israel. So much for that peace treaty.
Today, the suburbs of Tel Aviv were hit. These long-range missiles are Iranian-made, and could even be under the control of Iranian Revolutionary Guard agents. To put this into perspective, it would be equivalent to 50 to 60 million Americans coming under the bull's-eye of Al Qaeda firing from Mexico or Canada with the cooperation of the Mexican or Canadian governments. Does anyone seriously think the U.S. would hesitate to defend itself?
In times such as this, I am especially proud to be part of Pastor John Hagee's Christians United for Israel and Bill Kristol's Emergency Committee for Israel. I want our Israeli friends to know that millions of Americans are praying for them and standing with them.
Scandalous
A great frustration of the culture war is just how pervasive the left-wing ideology is in popular media. So whenever there is a movie or TV show that portrays our worldview in a positive light, I try to make an effort to share it with you.
Now I realize many of our readers do not regularly attend Broadway musicals, but if you happen to be in New York City over the holidays or if you live in the area, I hope you will make every effort to see Scandalous, written by Kathie Lee Gifford.
Columnist Cal Thomas recently wrote a review of Scandalous. Here's an excerpt of his column:
"The hottest ticket on Broadway continues to be 'The Book of Mormon,' a musical that pokes fun at the Mormon faith in particular and Christianity in general. It is also full of profanity and blasphemy. If there was a show called 'The Book of Muhammad,' the Eugene O'Neill Theatre probably would have been burned down by now. ...
"Now there's a new musical called 'Scandalous,' about a colorful, some would say corrupt, evangelist named Aimee Semple McPherson, founder of the Foursquare Church. ... 'Scandalous' has just begun previews. I saw it in development and thought it excellent."
Remember when the World Wide Web was like the Wild West?
Internet pioneers thought they had a tool that would let them thumb their noses at tyrannical states and advance freedom. Privacy and technology gave power to the people.
Welcome to 2012. The empire has struck back using technology to reveal your every secret.
"No guts, no glory" might be used to describe the motive behind the pre-election White House release of classified information that could compromise national security.
When the White House set up a system to allow American citizens to petition for grievances on the official website, officials probably didn't expect to see citizens in all 50 states seeking secession.
Nor did they likely imagine it would be a place that would become a forum for those questioning Barack Obama's eligibility for office and seeking his college and university records.
But a new petition is doing precisely that -- challenging Obama on the issue that will not die.
Nov. 14, 2012: President Barack Obama makes an opening statement during his news conference. (AP)
In the wake of Barack Obama's victory at the polls, I've received a torrent of emails from liberal friends asking me how I can possibly stand by my characterization of the president as an amateur. After all, they say, Obama ran a masterful election campaign-conclusive proof that he's a pro, not an amateur.
As usual, my liberal friends are conflating two different Obamas-the campaigner and the president-and in doing so, they are missing an important point. Obama has a political sense, but he lacks an executive sense. He is a happy warrior on the campaign trail, doing and saying whatever it takes to get elected, including lying shamelessly about his opponent. But when he leaves the hustings for the Oval Office, he becomes a different person, one who derives no joy from the cut and thrust of day-to-day politics and is inept in the arts of management and governance.
This explains the bullying, divisiveness, and extreme partisanship that have typified the operation of the White House since Obama took office. And it explains why, given Obama's arrogance, his sense of superiority, and his air of haughtiness, his second term is likely to be a retread of his first. Tom Daschle, the former Democratic Senate majority leader and Obama confidant, put it best when he said: "Don't expect a personality transplant with Obama."
Coming off an ugly, divisive campaign, America is likely to get not just four more years of Obama, but four worse years. Obama won the election with fewer votes than in 2008. By any measure, it was a status quo election, and yet Obama is now facing a slew of problems that would test the mettle of a far more able chief executive-everything from the debacle in Benghazi and the Petraeus sex scandal to the fiscal cliff and the possibility of a double-dip recession.
What's more, Obama is entering these dangerous times at the very moment when the team that put him in charge is breaking up. In the coming weeks, key members of his inner circle, including chief strategist David Axelrod, senior adviser David Plouffe and campaign manager Jim Messina, are all departing for the private sector. The only member of his consiglieri who will be back for a second term is Valerie Jarrett, a hard left-winger who is hardly known for her political perspicacity and the quality of her advice.
Is the conservative movement rooted in self-evident truths that reflect the enduring nature and purpose of human beings? If the answer is yes, then our next steps are clear. We have a responsibility to remain true to these founding principles, show that our ideas lift all, and ground Americans in what makes us "indivisible."
1. Our principles are rooted in reality and deeply entwined with human flourishing. To abandon them would be to acquiesce to nihilism. Marriage reduces the probability of child poverty by 80 percent. Work-based welfare recognizes that personal responsibility is essential to human dignity. Free enterprise allows individuals to use gifts cooperatively, innovating in ways that advance human welfare. A strong national defense contributes to peace by deterring bellicose nations.
2. Exit polls show a great deal of lopsidedness by demographic group. That may lead campaign strategists to cut their losses with a particular group, but conservatives cannot settle for walking away. Background and experience mean various demographic groups will have different first impressions of our first principles, but that doesn't remove our responsibility to appeal to their best intentions and best interests. The single mother on welfare may reflexively accept liberal policies. But if we believe, as we profess, that long-term government dependency does not do justice to her dignity, we ought to be able to explain that in a way that allows her to aspire to a better future-particularly when it comes to her children.
Anyone who thinks that's not possible should consider how low-income parents have clamored for school choice when they're trapped in unsafe and failing government-monopoly schools. Meanwhile, the continuation of onerous policies may cause some to reevaluate longtime inclinations: The HHS mandate, representing an existential threat to Catholic and other faith-based institutions, could lead to questioning the centralized health-care policy that bred the beast. Conservative health-care alternatives provide better hope for the poor, and we need to be clear about that.
3. Campaign scare tactics and gimmickry were remarkably effective this cycle. They took us backward on women's dignity and divided us. Inoculation against such pandering, infantilizing, and divisiveness requires grounding in first principles-what some have called worldview training. That's a dinner-table, church-foyer agenda that should begin this week.
Politics isn't just about election season; it is the way we order our lives together. Politics is the way we figure out how to meet everyday needs, solve problems and sort out our differences. It's about harmonizing diverse interests and building consensus about what's worth pursuing as a society. We work out issues in all kinds of forums - from family room to boardroom to congressional hearing room, each with its own authority structure, each exercising a variety of roles and responsibilities.
Forming Americans with those sensibilities is a task that should keep us busy enough; we don't have time for finger-pointing.
Among whites, single-mother families are more than six times more likely to be poor than married-couple families. The ratio is also high among African-Americans, Asian-Americans (four times more likely), and Hispanics (more than twice as likely).

End of the Threat to Obamacare? Not at All
President Obama's narrow victory has left proponents of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) breathing a collective sigh of relief, believing that the legislation is safe. It's true, of course, that the election's outcome has ended the prospect of a new administration using Republican majorities in both chambers and the budget reconciliation process to force outright repeal. But the reality of the economic and political situation means the core elements of the ACA remain very much in play.
The primary reasons for this are the continuing problems with the federal budget deficit and the national debt and the worrying long-term weakness of the economy. Add to that the increasing skepticism that the ACA's blunt tools will slow costs.
Let's remember that the most important provisions of the ACA, such as penalties for Americans lacking insurance and firms not offering it, the expansion of Medicaid, and the heavily subsidized exchange-based coverage, do not go into effect until 2014. Meanwhile, new taxes on self-employment and limits on flexible spending accounts are scheduled to go into effect next year, just as Congress will be trying to boost employment growth. Additionally, lawmakers will be desperately searching for ways to delay or cut spending to deal with the deficit. That adds up to 2013 being a year for buyer's remorse in Congress and around the country.
The reaction of employers to the ACA is likely to be the first pressure point for changes in the ACA or at least the suspension of some of its provisions. Employers have been reporting for some time that concerns about mandatory benefits are slowing their hiring. And as the Wall Street Journal recently reported, lower-wage employers are moving towards hiring part-time employees to avoid the ACA's penalties. These patterns will only grow in 2013 as many employers eye the prospect of putting their employees into the heavily subsidized exchange plans. And the possibility of larger-than-expected enrollment in health insurance exchanges will sharply increase the budget costs, adding to the deficit pressures to curb the ACA.

About The Heritage Foundation
Founded in 1973, The Heritage Foundation is a research and educational institute - a think tank - whose mission is to formulate and promote conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense.
Today, hearings begin in the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House and Senate Intelligence Committees on the terrorist attack that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11.
In a new Issue Brief, Heritage's James Jay Carafano and Morgan Lorraine Roach write:
Understanding what was behind the September 11, 2012, terrorist attack on the U.S. facility in Benghazi and the tragic results is vital for preparing for future security threats to embassies, consulates, and diplomatic missions. The attack in Benghazi reveals a terrorist attack profile that the U.S. is likely to see again.
Al-Qaeda-affiliated sources have already called for additional attacks on U.S. embassies. Regardless of the motivation and organization behind Benghazi, the U.S. government should anticipate that al-Qaeda and its affiliates will aspire to more such attacks.
They raise four questions that congressional committees need to ask:
What counterterrorism and early warning measures were in place to proactively address security threats?
What risk assessments were performed and what risk mitigation measures were adopted prior to the attack?
What contingency planning was undertaken and exercised to respond to armed assaults against U.S. facilities in Benghazi?
How is the interagency response to the incident organized and managed?
Carafano, deputy director of The Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Institute for International Studies and director of the Douglas and Sarah Allison Center for Foreign Policy Studies, will testify today before the House Foreign Affairs Committee on these key questions for protecting U.S. embassies and missions. Carafano is a 25-year veteran of the U.S. Army and one of the nation's leading experts on defense and homeland security issues.
Carafano says that it is impossible to "child-proof America"-that is, to protect every single building or potential terrorist target. The better counterterrorism strategy is to tackle threats as they develop and emerge, before terrorists have the opportunity to strike a target-a strategy that has protected the U.S. from 53 publicly known terrorist plots since 9/11.
For this reason, finding out what was being done to identify and disrupt the terrorist operations in Libya is of utmost importance. It is well known to officials that "since the fall of the Muammar Qadhafi regime, Libya's fledgling government has been unable to stem the influence of Islamists and extremist militias," Carafano and Roach write. Ambassador Stevens had sent a memo to the State Department identifying at least 10 known militant groups that could be threats.
Helle Dale, Heritage's senior fellow for public diplomacy, adds that the "State Department's strategy of combating Islamist radicalism through strategic communication also has to come under review." Despite a special new office focusing on "strategic counterterrorism communication," Dale says, "we have seen the number of terrorist attacks (successful and attempted) on U.S. embassies on the rise, and we saw in September angry mobs throughout Muslim countries-such as those that gathered at the Cairo embassy-and beyond threaten American embassies."
Some of the hearings are public, while others are closed-door. Former CIA Director David Petraeus, who resigned last Friday citing an extramarital affair, will testify tomorrow at a closed-door hearing.
Sex Beats Benghazi By Ben Shapiro Here's the brutal truth: The American people seem far more interested in what happens in the bedroom than they do what happens on the battlefield. How else to explain the media's fascination with CIA Director David Petraeus' steamy sex scandal, even as they ignore the ramifications for the investigation of four murdered Americans in Benghazi?
Last night on Twitter, @ThePeoplesCube started a #HamasBumperStickers trend, which was picked up by tens of thousands people and quickly rose to the #1 trend not just in the United States but also worldwide - the fact promptly picked up by Michelle Malkin's Twitchy Team.
18 hours later, #HamasBumperStickers is still trending, breaking Twitter records on humorous hashtag games...
Once upon a time in a land far away, a flourishing chicken pen secured an eclectic gathering of reasonably happy chickens, as chicken happiness goes. Each morning our industrious chicken rancher admired his chicken settlement from the comforts of his country kitchen, while enjoying his French press coffee, gluten-free toast, and two eggs over easy with a dash of Tabasco. Granddad had bequeathed the farm to his son and father to son so the resulting pride was abundant and responsibilities unending.
