Glenn Beck Lays Out the Startling Similarities Between Present Day America and the Weimar Republic

For roughly half of the country, or at least those who strongly following both politics and history, the 2012 election serves as a harbinger of the fundamental transformation expedited by Barack Obama that will, ultimately, cause the sun to set on America and its exceptionalism. Those who recall the not-so-distant past recognize a number of similarities in present-day America and European countries that ultimately succumbed to the devices of Socialism or Fascism. During his Wednesday evening broadcast, Glenn Beck examined these similarities, particularly as it relates to the Weimar Republic.
For those unfamiliar, the term "Weimar Republic" refers to Germany between the years 1919 and 1933 when the country was a parliamentary democracy, governed by a true constitution which had been drafted in the city of Weimar. While the Weimar Constitution technically survived until 1945, its last vestiges were truly snuffed out with the installation of Adolf Hitler and his Third Reich.
Under the Weimar Republic, German citizens enjoyed rights not so dissimilar to those found in modern-day America, including the freedom to vote. Thus, Weimar was Germany's first foray into the concept of democracy. Before World War I, Germany was relatively prosperous, with a gold-backed currency and a burgeoning manufacturing industry.

Fury of Hamas Rockets on Southern Israeli Towns Kills Three Civilians, While Israel Continues Military Operation

Hamas and other terrorist groups in Gaza unleashed a fury of rockets on southern Israeli towns Thursday, launching salvo after salvo every few minutes. One rocket scored a direct hit on an apartment building in Kiryat Malachi, killing three Israelis and injuring an eight-month-old baby.
The IDF reports that as of 6:00am Eastern, Palestinian terrorists had fired 196 rockets at Israel since the start of Operation Pillar of Defense (or Pillar of Cloud in Hebrew) Wednesday afternoon. For its part, the IDF says its bombing campaign aimed at Gaza's militant infrastructure has struck "156 terror sites" in Gaza. The IDF began its campaign with the assassination of Hamas military chief Ahmed Jaabari.
Contrary to Hamas' strategy of intentionally targeting civilians, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) continued its efforts to avoid Palestinian civilian casualties. On Thursday, it dropped thousands of leaflets over Gaza urging citizens to stay away from Hamas buildings and terrorist launching grounds. More Layoffs Announced, Including 500 At NBC, Citibank, And One Huge Obama Donor's Medical Company

TheBlaze is continuing to monitor the ever-growing list of companies that have announced layoffs or closings in the wake of President Obama's re-election.
Wednesday was another tough day on Wall Street. And the stock market seems to reflect the mood of the country's business community. Since last Tuesday, we have seen a decline in the Dow Jones Industrial Average from 13,244 to the close today of 12,570 - a loss of over 774 points in one week's time.
In just the first three days of this week, we have seen an alarming rise in announcements from some very large corporations like, NBC, Citibank, Xerox, and most of the Atlantic City Casinos. Also among the latest to announce downsizing, many municipalities are cutting back staff in service areas like hospice care, housing for domestic abuse victims, and even fire departments.

Those who favor limited government have a tremendous opportunity to derail the largest expansion of government in recent history - ObamaCare. If Pennsylvania and other states refuse to create a health care exchange, ObamaCare will completely unravel.
Governor Corbett will play a big role in deciding whether or not to establish an exchange in Pennsylvania. Please send a message to Governor Corbett and your state legislators urging them to opt out of an exchange. Now is the time to make your voice heard and do everything you can to oppose the health care takeover.
Exchanges are massive bureaucratic entities that will force Americans to buy health insurance. They will serve as the vehicle transporting hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars to private insurance companies. Each state is being pressured to create its own exchange because the federal government cannot otherwise direct the premium subsidies and enforce the various mandates.
And the law is clear: states are under absolutely no obligation to submit to the federal government and create an exchange.
If enough states opt out of the health care exchanges, Congress will have no choice but to reexamine the law. Without its subsidies and its mandates, ObamaCare cannot function. If we can block the exchange in Pennsylvania, we can lead the country in blocking ObamaCare altogether!
This is the last stand in the battle to defeat President Obama's health care takeover, and we'll need every ounce of energy you can muster. Send a message to Governor Corbett and your state legislators right now! Let it be known you want no part of ObamaCare in Pennsylvania!

This Friday, November 16th was the deadline for governors to tell the federal government whether they will set up state-run health exchanges or allow the federal government to set up federal exchanges in the state. President Obama extended the deadline to December 14th, hoping more governors would cooperate with ObamaCare. We need you to call your governor today to urge him or her to resist ObamaCare by refusing to set up a state-run exchange.
As Twila Brase, president of the Minnesota-based Citizens' Council for Health Freedom, informed us at our annual Eagle Council gathering in September, states that wish to stand up to ObamaCare have three options.
They can:
- Refuse to respond to the HHS request for an update regarding their health insurance exchange intentions,
- Respond that they will not implement an exchange, as there is nothing statutory compelling them to do so, or
- Allow the HHS to implement an exchange, and be as passive as possible, offering no assistance as the HHS pursues implementation in their state.
As Brase noted, "States should not tie themselves to an annualized operational expense estimated to be between $10 and $100 million per year, when the expense does nothing to help and everything to hurt citizens." Brase concluded, "States must assert their own sovereignty and stand up for the health, privacy and pocketbooks of their citizens."
Last week, Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, Chairman of the Republican Governors Association, chose the third option, allowing HHS to implement a federal exchange. McDonnell took a stand against the massive burden ObamaCare would impose on the people of Virginia when he declared, "I don't believe the federal government can possibly deliver its commitment to fully fund the program, and I don't want to be part of contributing trillions of dollars to the national debt."

Please take a moment to contact your governor's office and tell them how you feel regardless of their position, expressing thanks and support for resiting ObamaCare or outrage for going along with it.
Click here to find your governor's contact information, and urge him or her to resist ObamaCare by refusing to set up a state run exchange. It is important that your governors know you support them in passively resisting ObamaCare's very aggressive federal intrusion on state sovereignty!
Note: The Republican Governors Association is holding meetings today through this Friday. If your Republican governor has already taken the right stand on this issue, be sure to thank them and encourage them to urge their Republican colleagues from other states to hold the line.

THESE are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. These are indeed "the times that try men's souls." Paine's words still hold true, still remind us of the challenges that continue to confront us today, nearly 236 years later. It's been a week since the election and it has been for me, as I'm sure it has been for many of you, one hell of an emotional rollercoaster ride. Reflecting upon that ride, I think the emotional progression went something like this:
Shock->Depression->Rage->Determination
I felt complete shock last Tuesday night as I watched the election returns come in, expecting a Romney-Ryan 'landslide', only to realize that it was not to be. Feelings of depression were not far behind as I envisioned the end of America as the Founders intended it, as we've come to know it. Was all of our hard work over the past three years for nothing? Depression soon turned to rage. Rage at the republican establishment. Rage at those who didn't vote for Romney or who withheld their vote altogether just to send an empty message. Rage at so many of my fellow Americans. How did Romney end up with fewer votes than John McCain? Rage at myself for becoming over confident, believing the polls. Finally, from the rage rose a renewed sense of determination. I believe in this county! I believe in the founding principles! I believe in the sacrifice, for some the ultimate sacrifice, of so many who went before us and that it cannot be allowed to have been made in vain. I am determined to continue the fight for America, not only because I know it's worth fighting for, not only because I know we must secure the blessings of Liberty for future generations, but also because I know there is no other choice! Let us take inspiration from another great American patriot, Patrick Henry, who said:
"Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!"
My friends, we have a lot of hard work ahead of us. We need to start preparing now for the 2014 elections. It is absolutely critical that we retake the Senate and widen our majority in the House if we are to minimize the damage of another Obama term and the socialist ideologies that are sure to accompany it.
Our first post-election meeting will be this Thursday night. We'll take a look at some of the election results, listen to what you all are thinking and figure out "What's Next?" together.

The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.
Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.
Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.
The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.
The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization
Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. Sadly, conservatives/Republicans do not control the either or both state legislative houses in New Jersey or Delaware and the 2012 elections only marginally improved our situation in Delaware. (New Jersey did not have state legislative contests in 2012.)
The good news in PA is that after the recent elections,conservative/Republicans
have maintained control of the legislative bodies of both the House and the Senate. We also have a Republican governor.
So why is it, that after two years in power, we have had few very legislative victories.
There has simply been little progress on legislation issues ranging from Privatization of State Stores--to Right to Work--to Opting out of ObamaCare.
Why is that you ask? The simple answer--a lack of leadeship--especially in the PA Senate.
PA Republican State Senators will be voting on leadership roles today.
We ask you to immediately call the Senators below and ask them not to retain Dominic Pillegi as Senate Majority leader.
Whether the issue be opting out of Obamacare or Voter ID, Senator Pillegi's office has stalled reform in so many areas. We desperately need new leadership.

President to Sens. McCain and Graham - go after me, not Susan Rice

At his press conference today, President Obama became testy when asked about threats by Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham to oppose Susan Rice if she is nominated to be Secretary of State. Obama advised Senate Republicans that if they want to "go after somebody, they should go after me." He added, with disgust, that Rice is merely the U.N. ambassador and, as such, had nothing to do with Benghazi.

But it was the Obama administration's decision to designate Rice as its spokesperson on Benghazi, having her appear on five Sunday talk shows. The reason, I assume, was precisely that Rice lacked personal knowledge of the situation and thus could serve as a conduit of false information in ways that the actual players - e.g., Hillary Clinton - could not. Thus, Rice ended up peddling the falsehood that this was a protest that turned ugly when the jihadists joined in. The truth is that this was an attack planned by the jihadists.
In any event, whenever there's a major scandal - and the preventable death of four Americans including a U.S. ambassador qualifies as one - it is customary for Congress to hold everyone involved accountable, not just the president. And when, as so often is the case, the scandal includes a cover up, government officials who further the cover up are among those who must be held accountable.
The fact that Obama was re-elected president with 51 percent of the popular vote doesn't change this reality - one experienced by more popular presidents such as Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan
Obama defended Rice by claiming that in her talk show appearances, "she gave her best understanding of the situation based on the intelligence that had been provided to her." If, in the event she is nominated Secretary of State, Rice can satisfy Republican Senators (1) that it was proper to lend her prestige as U.N. ambassador to the service of the administration's spin operation by talking to the press about a subject she had no involvement with and (b) that she did everything that could reasonably be expected of her to inform herself of the facts pertaining to Benghazi, only to be thwarted by the poor information she received, then perhaps Republicans will drop their opposition. But that's a tough sell, and one that would require, at a minimum, full disclosure of the information that was provided to her and the information that was not.
Meanwhile, if Obama is sincere in his statements today that "there needs to be accountability" and that to advance this objective he is "happy to cooperate in any way that Congress wants," then he should testify before Congress about all aspects of Benghazi. This includes the failure to provide requested security before the attack, the failure to provide more effective support during the attacks, and the failure to provide accurate information about the attack later on.
But Obama is not sincere. Therefore, the congressional effort to get to the bottom of the various aspects of Benghazigate probably will proceed as usual, by investigating from the bottom up. And, if Obama nominates Rice for Secretary of State, there will (and should) be particular focus on her.

Ahmed Jabari: Eliminated [With Update by John]

In response to months of escalating rocket attacks on Israeli civilians from terrorists in Hamas-run Gaza, Israel has begun a self-defense operation. It started with taking out the head of the self-proclaimed "military" or terrorist branch of Hamas who was unaffectionately known as Hamas Bin Laden. The Israel Project has posted useful background information here. We wish the IDF Godspeed in its critical mission.
The IDF has a Twitter feed providing real-time information and updates. Below is the YouTube video of the pinpoint strike on Jabari, posted by the IDF on its Twitter feed.
JOHN adds: As usual, press coverage begins when Israel tries to defend itself. Today's fighting is the result of months of rocket bombardment of southern Israel by Hamas:
More than 80 rockets were fired from Gaza into southern Israel over the weekend as Hamas unleashed a barrage that wounded several Israelis and damaged buildings in Sderot and the Sha'ar Hanegev area. The motive for the escalation from the normal volume of fire over the border (more than 600 missiles have been fired at Israel from Gaza in 2012 up until Saturday) from the Hamas-run enclave is a matter of speculation.
Israel's Iron Dome system has been quite effective in defending certain cities and installations, but cannot protect all of southern Israel:
The Iron Dome anti-missile system intercepted two Grad rockets aimed at the strategic port city of Ashkelon Monday, but rural areas closer to Gaza sustained a dozen attacks. A missile attack on Ashkelon could be devastating if it were to strike oil and gas storage tanks and pipelines or a huge power station, which supplies electricity to most of southern Israel.
The expensive Iron Dome system is located to protect major urban areas, and there are not enough missile batteries to cover all of the Western Negev.
One rocket exploded on a home in Netivot, and 26 people were treated for the shock they endured during the barrage.
Gaza terrorist groups were competing with each for "credit" for the latest missile barrage, significantly smaller than the bombardment on Saturday and Sunday but still unacceptable for southern Israel residents who have felt abandoned by the government and the IDF during 12 years of missile strikes.
So Israel had no recourse but to try to degrade Hamas's rocket capability in Gaza. News coverage generally leads with the Israeli attack, only back-handedly acknowledging that it follows months of rocket attacks by Hamas. The New York Times, for example:
Israel on Wednesday launched one of the most ferocious assaults on Gaza since its invasion four years ago, hitting at least 20 targets in aerial attacks that killed the top military commander of Hamas, drew strong condemnation from Egypt and escalated the risks of a new war in the Middle East.
The Times never suggested that Hamas's rocket attacks "escalated the risks of a new war." Eventually the paper works in a passing reference to Hamas's attacks:
The ferocity of the airstrikes, which Israel called Operation "Pillar of Defense" in response to repeated rocket attacks by Gaza-based Palestinian militants, provoked rage in Gaza, where Hamas said the airstrikes amounted to war and promised a harsh response. Civil-defense authorities in Israel raised alert levels and told residents to take precautions for rocket retaliation from Gaza.
The Times seems to consider Hamas an ambiguous organization:
The abrupt escalation in hostilities between Israel and Hamas, the militant organization regarded by Israel as a terrorist group sworn to Israel's destruction, came amid rising tensions between Israel and all of its Arab neighbors.
Of course Hamas is a terrorist group sworn to Israel's destruction; it proclaims that commitment at every opportunity, and if its rocket attacks on Israeli civilians are not terrorist acts, what are they?
CNN likewise portrays Israel as the aggressor:
Israel launched a series of blistering air strikes Wednesday on what it says are terrorist targets in Gaza, killing the chief of Hamas' military wing and at least eight others, Israeli and Palestinian officials said.
Palestinian leaders immediately condemned the attacks as an escalation, with President Mahmoud Abbas calling for an emergency session of the Council of the League of Arab States to discuss what he called Israeli "aggression," the Egyptian state news agency MENA reported.
CNN eventually gets around to mentioning the months of rocket attacks launched from Gaza, but that part of the story comes off as a sort of draw:
The Israeli operation - which the military calls "Operation Pillar of Defense" - came after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned this week of pending retaliation by Israel for increased rocket attacks from Gaza.
"I would ask you, I'd ask any person around the planet: What would you do if your population was targeted day after day?" Israeli government spokesman Mark Regev told CNN, later adding that "you have to see our operation as fundamentally defensive."
A spokesman for Hamas, Osama Hamdan, also claimed that Hamas has been defending itself from Israeli attacks.
"I think the ones who declared war was Israel, and I think the Palestinians are in the position of defending themselves and nothing more than this," he said.
It's all just too hard to figure out!

The Petraeus scandal and President Obama

The Washington Post assures its readers that "Obama [is] relatively unscathed by [the] Petraeus investigation." In the online version, the Post goes further, describing Obama as "untouched" by the affair.
The Post is right, I think, provided that Obama did not receive word of the investigation of General Petraeus before the election. If Obama did receive such word well ahead of the election, questions will arise as to what he knew about the matter, when he knew it, how he responded, and why Petraeus remained in charge of the CIA until after the election. Questions may also arise about whether the administration used its knowledge of the scandal to gain leverage with Petraeus in connection with Benghazigate.
But let's assume that Obama didn't hear anything about this matter until after election. In that scenario, Attorney General Holder should be sacked for not timely providing the president with information relevant to the nation's security.
Moreover, Holder's relation to Obama differs significantly from that of Petraeus. Obama apparently admired Petraeus and may have liked him. However, the General is not an Obama loyalist or crony. Holder is.
The Post also speculates that, with Petraeus and possibly Gen. Allen out of the way, it will be easier for Obama to withdraw rapidly from Afghanistan. But it's extremely doubtful that Obama would have paid serious attention to the recommendations of Petraeus and Allen, in any case. He blew off the military's view on the proper size of our surge force and on the timing for its withdrawal.
Obama has decided that the U.S. will give up in Afghanistan. Under these circumstances, he sees no reason to stick around.
JOHN adds: I am a little more skeptical that Obama can stay entirely free of the wreckage that this scandal will bring about. One, it is a scandal in his administration. It happened on his watch, and involved people whom he appointed. There is no way it can reflect other than badly on him. Two, I think it is highly unlikely that Eric Holder didn't tell Obama what was going on. I think it is overwhelmingly probable that any action on the scandal was deferred until after the election in order to avoid damaging Obama's campaign. Whether this is ever proved or not, and it may well be, a great many people will believe it. Three, we don't know yet whether and how the sex scandal relates to Benghazi and its aftermath. We do know that the CIA was the only agency that tried to do anything to rescue the besieged Americans at the so-called consulate and CIA annex, presumably on Petraeus's order, and that Petraeus personally went to Libya to interview people on the ground there about what happened. Petraeus has already testified consistent with the administration's original movie-review-gone-bad theory; Charles Krauthammer and others have speculated that this testimony may have been driven by implicit or explicit blackmail from the Obama administration. If so, perhaps Petraeus will be more forthcoming next time. Beyond all of that, I think the scandal will have the effect of keeping attention focused on Benghazi, which is the last place Obama wants it.
So in one sense Obama won't be implicated in the scandal; I think we can assume that he didn't have anything to do with Jill Kelley or Paula Broadwell. But at a minimum, the irresistible confluence of sex and espionage will put an uncomfortable spotlight on the administration for some time to come.

An Israeli airstrike in Gaza City has killed the commander of the military wing of Hamas in Gaza, according to officials of both Israel and Hamas. The dead commander is Ahmed Jabari, said to be the most senior Hamas official to be killed since an Israeli invasion of Gaza four years ago. The Wall Street Journal says that Jabari had long topped Israel's most-wanted list and was blamed by Israel for a string of attacks, including the kidnapping of Israeli soldier Gilad Schalit in 2006.
Israeli officials had said they were considering assassinating top Hamas officials following a wave of heavy rocket fire from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip. It's good to learn that they are serious about this.

Ten missing dates in the Petraeus scandal

Before we can walk the cat back, and establish the chronology of a possible penetration, we need to answer the following ten questions:
1. When and where did the sexual liaison between Paula Broadwell begin? Was it before, during, or after the FBI conducted its mandatory background check on General Petraeus in 2011?
2. When did General Petraeus (who had top secret access) and Paula Broadwell collaborate to set up anonymous gmail accounts and exchange passwords to them? Over what period were these "drop boxes" used to evade US intelligence surveillance of internet providers through the device of storing drafts of unsent emails?
3. It is reported that Paula Broadwell, a former military intelligence officer (under the pseudonym "KelleyPatrol"), sent an email to General John Allen, the former deputy to General Petraeus in Tampa, warning him that Gilberte ("Jill") Khawam Kelley was a "seductress." If so, on what date was this warning to General Allen sent?
4. It is further reported General Allen told Kelley of the anonymous warning. If so, on what date did this occur?
5. It is reported that Kelley consulted a friend in the Tampa FBI field office in May 2012, What was exact date? Was it after she received news of the warning from General Allen?
6. When did the FBI determine "drop boxes" were being used by Paula Broadwell?
7. The FBI reportedly obtained a warrant by showing probable cause of a crime in order to search the anonymous accounts. If this was a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant, what crime did the FBI allege it was investigating? On what date did it obtain this warrant?
8. When was General Petraeus told by the FBI it was investigating anonymous gmail accounts? Was it done through the FBI liaison with the CIA?
9. When did the FBI determine Paula Broadwell was in possession of classified data on her computer?
10. It is reported that General Petraeus told Paula Broadwell to stop sending anonymous letters. If so, was it after he learned of the FBI investigation? In any case, when did General Petraeus and Paula Broadwell last communicate?

The terror group Hamas benefits from using its own people as human shields. When the IDF refrains from firing into densely populated areas, such as neighborhoods or suburbs, the terror organization becomes less vulnerable by default. Most of Hamas' military infrastructure is purposely placed in the middle of Gaza City and scattered throughout crowded refugee camps, further putting civilians in the direct line of fire.
In this video, uploaded online by Hamas only two days ago, you can see rockets being fired from urban living areas in the Gaza Strip. These are the same areas Hamas operatives convert to terror sites and weapon caches.

The United States expressed support for Israel on Wednesday, after the IDF launched Operation Pillar of Defense in response to the ongoing rocket attacks from Gaza.
"We strongly condemn the barrage of rocket fire from Gaza into southern Israel, and we regret the death and injury of innocent Israeli and Palestinian civilians caused by the ensuing violence," State Department spokesman Mark Toner said in a statement.
"There is no justification for the violence that Hamas and other terrorist organizations are employing against the people of Israel. We call on those responsible to stop these cowardly acts immediately. We support Israel's right to defend itself, and we encourage Israel to continue to take every effort to avoid civilian casualties," he added.

The David Petraeus affair has to be a dream you wake up from. It can't be true.
Surely the FBI agent at the heart of the investigation couldn't have been sending shirtless photos to Jill Kelley, the damsel in distress and wealthy socialite in Tampa, Florida, who was allegedly being harassed by Paula Broadwell. Broadwell, of course, is the former mistress and Petraeus biographer who wins the prize for the least clothing worn in an interview with Jon Stewart, who asked her the most pressing question raised by her book about the former Army general and Central Intelligence Agency director: "Is he awesome, or incredibly awesome?"
Then another general fell. As federal agents were carrying a computer out of Broadwell's house in North Carolina, thePentagon announced that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was investigating four-star Marine General John Allen, who took over in Afghanistan after Petraeus went to the CIA. Allen is said to have sent thousands of pages of e-mails to Kelley, whose complaint about Broadwell got this whole story going.
All of which raises an important question about national security: What's in the water at the Pentagon, stupid juice?

On Nov. 14, 2012, the IDF targeted Ahmed Jabri, the head of Hamas' military wing, in the Gaza Strip. Jabri was a senior Hamas operative who served in the upper echelon of the Hamas' command and was directly responsible for executing terror attacks against Israel in the past.

Hamas Military Leader Killed by Israeli Airstrike
The IAF fired a missile at a car in Gaza Wednesday, killing the commander of Hamas's "military" terror wing, Ahmed Jaabari. Israel's TV Channel 2 says his son was also killed. There are reports that Raed al-Atar, Commander of Hamas's southern division, has also been killed.
Hamas responded by saying that it was now in a state of "open war" with Israel with no date set for its end.
The IAF reportedly also struck targets in Khan Younes and Rafiah. Channel 2 said that the IAF has been striking launch silos for Hamas's longer-range Fajr rockets, which can hit central Israel, in order to preclude their use. About 20 reinforced silos holding Fajr-3 and Fajr-5 silos were reportedly hit.
The IDF has begun a wide scale operation, which has been named "Amud Anan," a phrase that refers to the column-shaped cloud that led the Israelites in Sinai during the Exodus from Egypt. The official English name is Pillar of Defense.

The reason for General David Petraeus' sudden, forced resignation is as plain as the ass on a goat. Barack Obama wanted to discredit Petraeus, prejudice the American public against him and effectively intimidate the general into silence lest he spill the beans to congress about the Regime's criminal activities of providing arms, fighters and support to Syrian terror groups from the Chris Stevens-managed, Benghazi mission.

Gaza, Judea and Samaria: Prison or Paradise?

"Comfortable."
"Peaceful sleep."
"Laid-back luxury."
"The pool is so inviting."
These are hardly the terms one would typically use to describe prisons, concentration camps or places of oppression. And yet this is how some Palestinian-Arab-controlled locales are described - though not by Israelis, and certainly not by anti-Israel propagandists.
Rather, these are excerpts of reviews from people who have been to Gaza - and back - posted on the Web site "Trip Advisor," which relies on candid descriptions from tourists for its popularity. The agenda is not political.
In fact, the web is full of reviews, photos and pages that contradict the popular myths that all Palestinian-Arabs are suffering and that Israel is to blame. That is the singular narrative from the Arabs, their propaganda apparatus and the media. Depicting normalcy or even extravagance is not a part of it.
Rarely if ever is the public told or shown that the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip and the Palestinian Authority's cities in Judea and Samaria (commonly known today as "the West Bank") have resort hotels, five-star restaurants, exclusive villas and other luxury residences. It might jeopardize the demonization-of-Israel industry.
But the tourism and real estate industries want to promote their businesses. Their goal is to attract, not repel. So we see photos of hotels with beautiful pool areas and fountains, not claims of Israeli water theft. We see photos of mansions that rival the best of Beverly Hills or the French Riviera, rather than charges of repression. We read from Arabs, Europeans, Americans and others about how relaxing Gaza is, and not accusations about how the Israelis have created prison conditions there.

There's only so many ways to skin a cat or win an election. Like gambling, you don't just take the easy money, you look for the big score. The Republicans have always taken the easy money, setting up their own dime store New Deal after losing to FDR and Truman, setting up affirmative action and HMOs after JFK and LBJ; scoring short term political victories and long term defeats. As we speak, a small horde of consultants and would-be consultants is urging the Republican Party to take the easy money of amnesty, tax hikes and anything else that will make them an inoffensive version of last election's Democratic Party. And if any of that is followed by a victory, then the consultants order an expensive bottle of wine and the left goes on planning another big score. The key to winning the game is in the numbers. Demographics. The weakness of the kind of state that Western liberals love to set up, the one with 4-day workweeks where everyone is either in a university or a union, where no one goes to church or synagogue, where having more than 2 kids is frowned on and retirement can be had before your hair goes white, is that it demographically trends conservative. Not necessarily what most conservatives think of as being conservative, but nevertheless those retired 60-year olds who have one daughter named Inga and take four vacations a year, don't much like change. They don't like America, Israel, banks, war, monarchy and a lot of the things that the left expects them not to like; but they also form societies that lack the left's radical appetite for change.

$1.6 Trillion? Obama Doesn't Want a Deal |

President Barack Obama has responded to House Speaker John Boehner's gesture last week towards reaching a deal to avoid the Jan. 1 "fiscal cliff" of tax hikes and spending cuts, putting a specific demand on the table: $1.6 trillion in new tax revenues, reached by raising tax rates on the wealthy in addition to other "tax revenues." The offer is twice as high as a deal Obama scuttled last year, suggesting he may be prepared to let talks fail again.

New legislation would stem wealthy flight from California

LOS ANGELES - Democrats after gaining a two-thirds majority in both the California Assembly and Senate following Tuesday's election, will be bringing several new laws forward, all without the need for Republican votes.
The most striking of these is a bill which would restrict wealthy California wage earners from leaving the state without facing a large penalty assessment on their real estate and financial assets.
Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown quickly cautioned that he would take any such legislation to the voters for ratification, as he did with the temporary tax increases that voters approved on Tuesday. And Democrat leaders in both the Senate and Assembly downplayed the idea that they would seek any measures that would harm California's income tax base.
It is the first time since 1965 that Democrats controlled a Senate supermajority, and the only time since California voters passed Proposition 13 in 1978, raising the legislative vote threshold to pass tax increases to two-thirds. Democrats will control at least 27 seats in the 40-member Senate and also have a two-thirds margin in the Assembly as well.
"It's time to start anew and to live within our means but at the same time invest in the cornerstone of our future and of our economy. We need those fortunate enough with higher incomes to continue paying their fair share, and if that means making them pay dearly if they decide to leave our state so be it," Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, said in a telephone interview.
He later told reporters that he favors continued "tax reform" to broaden California's tax base, but if the wealthy continue leaving the state that would only place a larger burden on those least able to pay. "I certainly don't mean to suggest to my fellow Californian's that we are immediately going to raise more taxes," Steinberg said, to comfort those seeking to flee. "Any new tax measures will be fair and balanced." (hahahahaha)
The California Labor Federation on the left and California Republican Party Chairman Tom Del Beccaro on the right both credited public employee unions, teacher unions and other core constituencies for electing Democratic candidates and helping pass Brown's tax increases.
"It is a big deal and we have expectations from our labor friends to raise revenues." Steinberg said. "That may include additional tax increases, but also will involve measures to penalize residents for moving out of the state."
Assembly Speaker John Perez, D-Los Angeles, said he was confident that Democrats have the 54 seats they need for a supermajority in his chamber as well.
While Steinberg trumpeted his new found ability to bypass Republicans whom he has called "recalcitrant ... and ideologues," Perez pledged to work with the minority party even if he could probably ignore them.
"We get the best results when we have a true competition for the best ideas," Perez said, adding later that, "Having a supermajority was never a governing imperative. But it makes it much easier for us to pass new progressive legislation."
State Democrats have also proposed forming a new branch of the state police, to be known as the "STASI" or "State Team Action to Stem Income" which would be staffed with volunteers from every community, monitoring residents contemplating moving out of the state. The staffers would report on neighbors and family members with moving plans or otherwise acting suspiciously.
The last time either party gained a supermajority in either chamber was in the 1976 election, when Democrats won a two-thirds margin in the Assembly. It would be the first time since 1933 that one party held simultaneous super majorities.
But Brown said at a Sacramento news conference that it is his role to make sure legislative members of his own party do not overindulge. He said he will ensure that California does not spend beyond its means, and wants all residents to continue living in the state voluntarily.
"Our desires will always outrun the available money," Brown said. "I always like to think with greater power comes greater responsibility. On the other hand, we can't have those who helped build our great society move out of the state willy-nilly"
He hedged when asked directly if he might veto the new legislation when it arrives on his desk.
"We're not into the threat game here," Brown said.
He also said his relationships with the Legislature are "better than they've ever been."

Do You Trust the Government with Your Computer?
Do you trust the federal government to keep your personal data safe? What about your business's records and trade secrets? If you answered "no," you have good reason-the federal government has had 13 breaches and failures of its own cybersecurity just in the last six months. Yet the President and his allies in the Senate are pushing forward to regulate America's cyber-doings, without any clues about how much this will cost us or how it will work. It's become the norm with this President-if Congress fails to accomplish his objectives, he goes around it with executive orders and federal regulations. He's doing it again. Congress did not pass the Cybersecurity Act of 2012 before the election, so the President has issued a draft of an executive order to put much of that legislation in place without lawmakers voting. Not to be left behind, though, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) may try to get another vote on the bill before the end of the year-some are saying as soon as this week. If the idea of cybersecurity-trying to secure all of the country's sensitive computer networks and data-sounds abstract, that's because it is. It's so abstract, in fact, that the legislation and executive order our leaders are pushing offer few details about what they would actually do, other than piling more confusing regulations onto businesses. When you think about it, the idea of the federal government trying to be on the cutting edge of technological security is pretty laughable. As Heritage's David Inserra notes:
Simply put, government regulations usually take 24-36 month to complete, but the power of computers doubles every 18-24 months. This means that any standards developed will be written for threats that are two or three computer generations old.
A federal government that stays hopelessly behind the curve and can't even secure its own networks doesn't exactly inspire confidence. But oh, it can regulate! The President's executive order would give multiple federal agencies new power to regulate businesses. It would work much like Obamacare, which passed with few details but gave agencies like Health and Human Services a blank check to write regulations. One of the incentives it may use to keep businesses in line is favoritism in awarding federal contracts-businesses that met the government's cybersecurity standards could be moved to the head of the line. Heritage visiting fellow Paul Rosenzweig will explain in a new Issue Brief due out tomorrow that "this order will likely be very significant and very costly while not providing important cybersecurity solutions, such as effective information sharing." How much will it cost businesses to comply with all these new (yet perpetually outdated) regulations? We don't know. Will the standards be voluntary or mandatory? Also unknown. Can companies share information about cyber-threats they have detected, with confidence that their sensitive information will be protected? No guarantees. With so many unanswered questions, the executive order-or the legislation-would create massive headaches for businesses and could hinder innovation. Just what the economy needs. Wednesday, November 14, 2012 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer Debt IS A Moral Issue The Associated Press reports this morning that the deficit for October, the first month of the new fiscal year, was $120 billion. That figure is 22% higher than the October 2011 deficit. And even though tax receipts were up 13% from October 2011, spending was up 16%. This level of spending is unsustainable. But now that Obama is safely ensconced in the White House for another four years, having once again deceived millions of blue collar workers in states like Ohio, his agenda is becoming clearer by the day. Speaking about the debt and deficit yesterday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said, "[Obama] does not believe that reducing deficits and debt are values unto themselves." That's obvious! What about all the talk of a compromise to avoid the fiscal cliff? As I reported yesterday, there is no evidence Obama and the left are willing to compromise at all. The Hill reports that Obama asked for $800 billion in tax hikes over ten years in his discussions with John Boehner last year. Now he's demanding double that -- $1.6 trillion! Obama's press conference this afternoon was aggressive and showed little room for common ground. Fresh off of his reelection victory, Obama is demanding a pound of flesh from congressional conservatives. If John Boehner and Senate Republicans give it to him, he will demand two pounds next time. And if they refuse, then he and left-wing members of Congress seem willing to go over the fiscal cliff and blame the GOP for the resulting economic damage. Polls suggest Obama has the upper hand. Some of our friends, such as Larry Kudlow, the Wall Street Journal and even the Romney campaign, have already embraced the concept of having the rich pay more -- not by raising tax rates but by limiting deductions. The largest and most popular deductions are home mortgage interest and charitable donations. The rumor is that Obama will get his $1.6 trillion by demanding both higher marginal tax rates AND limited deductions. But keep in mind that Obama is spending at least $1 trillion more than the Treasury brings in each and every year. His "plan" is to raise $1.6 trillion over ten years, essentially cutting his deficits by just 16%. That's not much of a solution. AND DON'T FORGET THIS: If the GOP figures out a way to hold the line against Obama's demands, taxes go up anyway in January, automatically. Benghazi And The Sex Scandal Is there a nexus between General Petraeus's infidelity scandal and the Benghazi scandal? Syndicated columnist and FOX News contributor Charles Krauthammer has suggested there is a link, and his speculation on this link is worth considering. There are credible reports that General Petraeus held out the hope that he would be able to keep his job and avoid the destruction of his reputation in spite of the adultery scandal. He believed the scandal might not become public if administration officials did not expose it. Krauthammer then raises the possibility that Petraeus's Benghazi testimony before Congress on September 13th may have been influenced by knowing that the Obama Administration held his fate in its hands. In his testimony, Petraeus gave Congress the administration's story that the Benghazi attack was spontaneous and caused by the anti-Islam movie. He did this even though his own station chief in Tripoli had told him it was an organized terrorist attack. Krauthammer concludes, "Of course it was being held over Petraeus's head, and the sword was lowered on Election Day. You don't have to be a cynic to see that as the ultimate cynicism." I believe Krauthammer is very close to the truth. This is what Congressional investigators should zero in on. As I write, there are reports Petraeus has now agreed to testify. Hamas Military Leader Eliminated By Israeli Airstrike The leader of Hamas' military arm, who has masterminded countless terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians, has been killed by an Israeli Air Force strike. After weeks of missile attacks from Gaza into Israel, the Israeli Air Force bombed a car in Gaza City, killing Ahmed Jaabari, the head of Hamas's armed wing - the equivalent of an army's chief of staff. Other airstrikes are underway as we go to press.
