Iran warplane fired at U.S. drone in early November
By Ernesto Londoño, Thursday, November 8, 2012
An Iranian warplane opened fire on an unarmed U.S. military drone conducting surveillance near Iranian airspace Nov. 1, the Pentagon said Thursday, the first such incident over the Persian Gulf and one that is all but certain to draw attention to Washington's use of unmanned aircraft.
The MQ-1 Predator drone returned to its base unscathed, even as the Iranian aircraft chased it away from the Islamic Republic's borders, Pentagon spokesman George Little said Thursday, disclosing details of an incident that the Obama administration chose to keep quiet during the final stretch of the presidential campaign.
The encounter comes nearly a year after a U.S. drone crashed in eastern Iran, marking the first time that the United States acknowledged that one of its stealth unmanned aircraft fell into enemy hands. The Iranian government said its forces shot down the RQ-170 drone, but officials in Washington said it may have simply crashed.
The Nov. 1 incident happened at 4:50 a.m. Eastern time, approximately 16 miles from the Iranian coastline, Little said. Under international law, national sovereignty extends for 12 nautical miles.
An Iranian Su-25 fighter jet pursued the U.S. drone as it retreated from Iranian airspace, the spokesman said. The American aircraft does not appear to have been struck and landed safely at an unidentified base in the region.
Little declined to say whether the engagement constituted an act of war.
"This is the first time a UAV has been fired upon by an Iranian aircraft," he said, using the abbreviation for unmanned aerial vehicle. "The United States has communicated to the Iranians that we will continue to do surveillance flights over international waters over the Arabian Gulf."
8 November 2012: An "anti-Obama riot" reportedly broke out at the UniversityofMississippi late Tuesday night, allegedly involving upwards of 400 people; two people were arrested. A Fox News report about the riot can be found at this link. Was there something more behind this riot - or an attempt to riot? There is, according to my "DHS Insider."
In the days leading up to Tuesday's election, I reported that my source within the Department of Homeland Security, nicknamed "Rosebud," was warning of an incident or incidents of "riots" if Barack Hussein Obama won the election. While many were reporting that riots would break out if Obama lost the election, no one was reporting about the possibility of riots if Obama won a second term. During the Friday, November 2, 2012 and Monday, November 5, 2012 editions of The Hagmann & Hagmann Report, I provided our listeners with information I received from my high-level DHS source (audio excerpt from 5 November 2012 via YouTube here).
A follow-up contact with "Rosebud" this morning suggests that the incidents were part of an internal effort "to stage anti-Obama events for the purpose of exacerbating racial tensions." According to my source, certain elements of the Obama campaign were working with the DHS contacts at the highest of levels. "As crazy as this sounds, [they] were stoking up racial tensions, hoping that the situation would escalate. But in that case, it didn't."

Florida Family Association's webmaster American Family Online has produced the following remarkable product to protect children and adults from explicit material on cell phones and tablets.
According to our research at AFO, the largest growing group of smart phone users is the 12-17 year old age group. Unfortunately, also according to research, the largest viewership of pornography from the Internet on smart phones is 12 to 17 year old children. The impact is catastrophic. Desensitization, failed relationships, abuse of women are the results, nothing good.
Although there are other so called parental control functions and filtered browser apps available, none give the protection and full functionality of MobileWebGuard. We are most proud of the intelligent content scanning and the lock down so that it cannot be easily removed or deactivated. A filter that can easily be removed or bypassed is a placebo and will do more harm than good if a parent thinks the phone is filtered and it is not.
This app works on most Android and Apple (iOS) devices including smart phones and tablets! These are the fastest growing segments in consumer technology and thus the most exposed to the dark side of the Internet. For peace of mind online, a parent must insure their child has a protected mobile device.

Yes, it's true: You can support ACT! for America-at no cost to you!An important message from Guy Rodgers, Executive Director
The next time you make an online purchase of almost anything, you could be helping ACT! for America-at no cost to you.
Sound too good to be true? It isn't.
All you have to do is sign up for "iGive"-a program that's been around since 1997.
The concept is as powerful as it is simple.
Every time an iGive member makes an online purchase at over 1,000 brand-name stores, a percentage of that purchase is donated to that person's charity of choice.
And with the holidays just around the corner, you could be helping ACT! for America with every gift you buy!
The concept isn't new. In the mid-1990s many supporters of non-profit organizations signed up with long distance telephone programs where a percentage of their bill was donated to their charity of choice.
But our investigation of iGive has convinced us that this program has an ease of use and sophistication that we find remarkable.
Imagine booking a hotel room on Orbitz-and having 1.6% of that purchase price donated to ACT! for America.
Or buying an Xbox at Best Buy-and having 1.2% of the purchase price donated to ACT! for America.
The same goes for buying merchandise at Amazon, Bath and Body Works, Advance Auto Parts, Game Stop, Kmart, Home Depot, Holiday Inn, Old Navy, NASCAR Superstore, Overstock.com, Mattel, J.C. Penney, Office Max, QVC, Radio Shack, Shoe Carnival, Pottery Barn-and on and on the list goes.
In other words, every time you make a purchase of merchandise you would buy anyway, you would be financially supporting ACT! for America!
All you have to do is log on below and follow the directions to create your account and download the iGive "button." (Note: downloading the "button" is key).
When I was first informed of iGive, I was skeptical. I've seen these ideas come and go. Often, they're too good to be true. Or there are all kinds of glitches and problems.
So I spent hours researching.
I looked at online customer reviews (which were very good). I read all of iGive's fine print, such as Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. I signed up and even emailed two tech support questions to see how good their tech support was.
And the more I dug, the more I liked what I saw. For instance, both of my tech support questions were responded to within 60 minutes. How often does THAT happen?
As you know from our Patriot Partner program, we're all about encouraging a lot of people to each do a little-to do something. When everyone does a little, together we accomplish a lot.
So consider what could happen.
If just 1% of ACT! for America members each purchased just $400 in merchandise in 2013, from all the available outlets, and the average percentage donated to ACT! was 1.5%, the total amount donated back to ACT! for America would be...
...$15,000. That's a lot of money, wouldn't you agree?
And if you were one of those ACT! for America members, it wouldn't cost you one thin dime to help ACT! for America receive $15,000.
If this idea really caught on, and eventually 5% of our members made purchases with iGive, that $15,000 could explode to $50,000, $75,000 or more!
What's more, that 1.5% figure might be low. Many of the merchants offer percentage donations that are much higher. One printer inkjet company I looked at offered 13%!
Every merchant website you visit tells you right at the top what percentage of your purchase price will be donated to ACT! for America.
Just think what we could accomplish with an extra $15,000, $50,000 or $75,000 in our fight against radical Islam!
One of the things I most wanted to know was their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Check it out for yourself. I confirmed the terms with a company representative. And I like what I learned. As security-conscious as I am, I have no hesitation using the service-and I'm already doing so.
I know there are many people out there who would love to support ACT! for America, or give more than they're giving, but in these tough economic times they simply can't.
Well, here's a way that everyone who believes in our mission can easily support what we're doing-at no cost to them.
It doesn't get any better than that.
There are already chapter leaders who have signed up for the program, and the feedback I have been getting from them has been all positive. They love the idea and many of them are already using it.
So please, join me and these ACT! for America chapter leaders who are already signed up and using the iGive service.
Yours for a safe and free America

AMERICAN JEWS AND CHRISTIAN EVANGELICALS: IRRECONCILABLE ENEMIES OR INEVITABLE ALLIES?
Michael Medved is a nationally syndicated radio talk show host and bestselling author. His daily show is heard by over 3.75 million people across the country. Born in Philadelphia, Michael won admission to Yale at age 16 as a National Merit Scholar. He majored in American History and graduated with honors, before attending Yale Law School, where his classmates included Bill and Hillary Clinton. Michael wrote his first bestseller at age 26 - "What Really Happened to the Class of '65?" - a skeptical reconsideration of the "counterculture" of the 1960's that became a weekly TV series on NBC.
Many American Jews distrust and even fear the rise of the evangelical Christianity. They see this religious movement as a threat to the survival of Judaism in the United States and to the continuance of a society that values pluralism and religious liberty. On the other hand increasing numbers of American Jews view evangelicals as natural allies, not just when it comes to support of Israel, but on a range of social issues here in the U.S. In this provocative presentation, Michael Medved will explain where Jews and Christians already agree, and where they can never agree, in their participation in the ongoing battles shaping American society.
The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office on Thursday laid out in substantial detail the costs of not dealing with the fiscal cliff.
CBO had already estimated that going over the fiscal cliff would spark a recession, while simply voiding the tax and spending increases would add trillions to the debt. But the new study breaks down in specific detail the cost and benefits of allowing various parts of the fiscal cliff to remain in place.
It finds that unemployment would rise from 7.9 percent to 9.1 percent by the end of 2013 if the nation went over the cliff.
The analysis comes as President Obama, Senate Democrats and House Republicans gird for a huge negotiation over spending and tax policy in the coming lame-duck session of Congress.
Bush-era tax rates are set to expire at the end of the year, which would raise rates on most households and businesses. A payroll tax cut in place for two years is also set to expire, and Congress has yet to pass legislation to prevent millions of people from being hit by the Alternative Minimum Tax.
Spending cuts triggered by last summer's debt deal are also set to begin in January.
The figures in the report are sure to become fodder in the debate over how to move forward, and they offer ammunition for both sides.
The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq
Jul 18th, 2012
Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet,The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.
The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.
Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.
Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.
The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.
The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization
Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.
The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. It also discusses how the agents of radicalization in the Nashville Muslim community have been aided by collaborators in the establishment media, politics and the so-called "interfaith" community.

From current cencus:
2.0 million seniors reside in PA
6.5 million women
6.2 million men
9.9 million people are eligible to vote --- 4.5 million didn't vote at all
Questions to consider before the next meeting:
Who are the people that are not voting?
FreedomWorks is preparing a third-party, are the members ready to make a switch under certain circumstances?
Is the Republican brand dead?
Is the Tea Party purely a political movement -- or does it need to become more local community active?
Where does addressing Education and the Media play a role in the Tea Party's future?
Tea Tea Party, FreedomWorks, and Churches conducted one of the greatest get-out-the-vote efforts ever seen in PA, yet the total vote count was down. Why?

Unless Democrats can create a perfect storm - and we're not talking Superstorm Sandy - defeating Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick doesn't figure to be any more achievable two years from now.
Fitzpatrick, the 8th District Republican, won a third term Tuesday, defeating Democrat Kathy Boockvar by 13 percentage points and nearly 47,000 votes, according to unofficial election results.
In Bucks County, where President Barack Obama eked out a win with 160,000 votes against Mitt Romney's 156,000, Fitzpatrick tallied 175,000 votes, capturing support from thousands of Democrats.
"I think Boockvar clearly illustrated the same beliefs and supported the same programs as Obama did," said Bill Pezza, a political science professor at Bucks County Community College. "People embraced one and not the other."
Those familiar with area politics say Fitzpatrick's life as a Bucks County resident, 10 years as a county commissioner, community knowledge, work ethic and ability to raise money make him a tough out at the ballot box.
"He knows Bucks County like the back of his hand," said Pete Krauss, a chief of staff to former Congressman Jim Greenwood. "Mike was a Boy Scout, he belongs to civic organizations. Those things count. He's embedded in the community.
"When someone comes in and doesn't have the same depth of the community, it shows, people know. He lives and breathes Bucks' County's heart and soul. He cares about these things deeply, and voters see that."
So do Democrats. Larry Ceisler, a Democratic strategist and publisher of PoliticsPA.com, said "Fitzpatrick represents what Bucks County is about."
"Look, he tried to make (Boockvar) out to be Nancy Pelosi, which she wasn't, and she tried to make him into a crazy right winger, which he isn't.
"He's a good retail politician, who provides good constituent services. He represents the interests of Bucks County."
1. The Only Thing You Need to Read Today About the Election
We are three days removed from a brutal election for the GOP. A lot has been said.
I have decided it is virtually all bull crap.
Whenever the GOP loses - actually going back to some time around 1972 and the re-election of Richard Nixon - Democrats have told the GOP they are going to lose the demographic battle. Demography is only destiny when you party is obsessed with race as the Democrats are.
2. It Is Time to Throw the Social Conservatives Out of the GOP
It is time to throw the social conservatives out of the GOP. Look at what they got us - Barack Obama. It was the social conservatives who did it. They insisted the GOP support real marriage and children. To hell with that.
I'm getting this, in various forms, from lots of tea party activists. The GOP establishment in Washington is whispering it to each other. They look at Todd Aiken and Richard Mourdock and conclude that they, not Tommy Thompson, Heather Wilson, George Allen, Scott Brown, etc. are the problem.
3.Dear Consultants: In Close Elections, GOTV Matters
In 46 states (excluding AK, MS, NJ, and RI), Mitt Romney either expanded the percentage victory margin or shrunk the percentage loss margin compared to McCain in 2008.In only 4 states did Romney win by a smaller percentage or lose by a higher percentage than McCain did in 2008.
Movies often serve as a useful shorthand for how to address some of life's issues. In the movie Usual Suspects, Keyser Soze is confronted with the fact that his wife and children would be an impediment in dealing with his business competitors. In a way the House GOP finds itself in the same position as Keyser Soze. Our home has been invaded. Our family despoiled. And we are facing a never ending series of ever increasing demands from the criminals who have abused us.
Sometimes the only way out of a dilemma is by clearing the table and starting again from scratch. At midnight on December 21, 2012 the United States will be faced with what is being called the "fiscal cliff.". . . please click here for the rest of the post →

BREAKING NEWS:CNN reports that Iranian fighter jets last week fired on a U.S. drone operating in international airspace over the Persian Gulf. The drone was not hit. According to CNN, "the United States protested the incident but has not heard back from Iran." Why am I not surprised?
Brace yourselves, folks. The mullahs have seen nothing but weakness from Obama for the past four years. Now they are attacking our aircraft. And Obama files a complaint!
Back To Benghazi
With the election over, members of Congress are coming back to Washington, D.C. They have a lot on their plates -- the debt ceiling, preventing "taxmageddon" and stopping the country from going off the fiscal cliff. Add the Benghazi debacle to that list.
Both the House and Senate Intelligence Committees will hold hearings next week regarding the attack that killed our ambassador and three other Americans. According to Fox News the Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, CIA Director General David Petraeus and Matt Olsen, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, are expected to testify.
Among the issues likely to be discussed at these hearings is the lack of security that was provided to the consulate in view of the repeated attacks against it. More than 50 House members recently sent a letter to President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton demanding to know whether two bombings at the consulate this year -- on April 6 and June 6 -- were included in the president's daily intelligence briefing.
Clearly, the consulate was a jihadist target, and the attack on the anniversary of September 11th should not have come as a great surprise to anyone.
Obama's Energy Agenda
As Barack Obama prepares his second term agenda, some in the media are talking about his legacy. How will the history books remember him? Freed from the burdens of reelection, will he continue to pursue hard-left policies that kept his base energized? Or will he pivot to the right and compromise with the Republican House to get something done, as Bill Clinton did?
You may recall that a year ago the Obama Administration punted on the Keystone XL pipeline. Rather than approve the project, which has been in the works since 2008, the administration called for more studies, buying Obama time and support from the environmentalist movement during the campaign season. That time is coming to an end. Soon Obama will have to make a decision.
Will he bend to reality and his pro-drilling rhetoric in the debates and approve the pipeline? Or will he side with the "alternative energy"/global warming crowd?
Obama's left-wing base isn't taking any chances. Within hours of Obama's reelection Tuesday night, radical environmental groups announced plans for a protest in Washington on November 18th to oppose the Keystone XL pipeline. And they are also, of course, calling for higher taxes in the form of a new carbon tax to fight global warming.
But keep this in mind, friends. A tax on carbon is a tax on energy. We need energy for a growing economy. So in reality, a carbon tax is a tax on economic growth. And when you tax something you often get less of it. Consider this excerpt from a Bloomberg report yesterday:
"Barack Obama may consider introducing a tax on carbon emissions to help cut the U.S. budget deficit after winning a second term as president, according to HSBC Holdings Plc. ... North American [carbon] discharges fell 1.3 percent last year amid slowing economic growth." [Emphasis added.]
The connection is undeniable. Carbon emissions (energy usage) correspond with economic growth or the lack of it. If we're in a recession, the economy uses less energy so less carbon is released. As the economy grows, we use more energy and more carbon is released. Now, if you buy into the radical green ideology, that's bad for the environment. Therefore, economic growth is bad. So tax carbon. But how does less growth help generate more revenue to pay down the deficit?
This is a really bad idea, my friends. As we noted in our special report on Obama's socialist agenda, even the New York Times acknowledged that Obama's carbon cap-and-trade plan was a massive redistribution of wealth scheme.
The Intolerant Left Strikes Again
Stockton Springs Community Church in Waldo County, Maine, was vandalized earlier this week because its pastor is an outspoken advocate of the biblical definition of marriage.
"Our congregation has taken a loving and respectful stand for traditional marriage in our community," said Reverend Steve DeGrof, "but those who disagree want to silence and intimidate us. We can't be apathetic, and can't be bullied."
"I was shocked and horrified when I arrived at the church [Tuesday morning] and saw swastikas painted all over our property. Clearly, those who want to redefine marriage also want to redefine tolerance," added DeGrof.
Such despicable tactics are nothing new. Churches and businesses all over the country have been subjected to vandalism and protests simply for exercising their First Amendment rights. The "tyrants of tolerance" are incredibly intolerant when it comes to traditional values and religious liberty.
But the greater danger is the legal discrimination and intimidation that comes from major institutions and Big Government with the advance of the radical homosexual rights agenda. Just ask Dr. Angela McCaskill, or Dr. Frank Turek or Elaine Huguenin.
These are not isolated incidents. This is not hyperbole. In a report on the clash between gay rights and religious liberty, even NPR acknowledged, "same-sex couples are beginning to challenge policies of religious organizations ... and so far, the religious groups are losing." And that was four years ago.

The Day After
Elections have consequences. And yesterday's elections will have dire consequences. I don't want to depress you any further, but I believe it is important at this stage to provide an honest assessment of what we are facing. Here are a few things that come to mind when considering the likely impact of yesterday's results:
We are probably stuck with Obamacare. I hedge that somewhat because I believe it is possible that as the law is fully implemented over the next few years, and as its negative effects become obvious, its unpopularity will continue to grow. Just consider this headline from Reuters: "Victory Puts Obama In Position To Expand Government's Reach."
Taxes are going up. Obamacare alone contains several major tax hikes. Then there is the fiscal cliff and "taxmageddon" coming up at the end of the year. It's no surprise that the stock market is tanking today.
The battle for our values and religious liberty will only become more intense. Obama will continue to fund and promote abortion-on-demand. After dozens of defeats, same-sex "marriage" won at the ballot box last night. That does not bode well for religious freedom. And then there is Obamacare's assault on the Catholic Church, other religious institutions and charities as well as faith-based businesses.
The courts will be skewed further to the left as Obama has four more years to pack them with left-wing activists. Pray for the health of the four conservatives on the Supreme Court and for Justice Anthony Kennedy, who is with us at least half the time.
Perhaps in anticipation of future Supreme Court confirmation battles, Harry Reid is threatening to limit the rights of Republican senators by eliminating the filibuster.
I shudder to think what the next four years mean for our national security and for Israel's security. I suppose we will find out soon enough just how flexible Barack Obama will be for Vladimir Putin, and just how far he will go to appease the Islamofascists in Tehran. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
I want you to know that already this morning I have been on the phone with key conservative leaders strategizing as to how we can fight back and mitigate the damage on each of these and other important issues. There are major battles ahead, and we will be right in the middle of them!
What Happened?
There will be plenty of time for serious analysis and navel-gazing in the days ahead, but here are three things I must stress with you regarding the 2012 elections.
First, Barack Obama has no mandate. He lost about 9.5 million votes from 2008. Talk about buyer's remorse! His rhetoric four years ago may have inspired many, but his record has turned off millions.
Second, regardless of what the talking heads at "MSDNC" say, this was not a repudiation of conservatism. The country is narrowly divided. Obama's support fell from 53% in 2008 to 50% in 2012. The House of Representatives remains solidly Republican, and thankfully will remain a conservative firewall against the worst of Obama's radical agenda.
Third, Hurricane Sandy hurt us. According to the exit polls, 15% of Americans said that Obama's response to the hurricane was "the most important factor" in their vote for president. Another 27% said it was an important factor. Here's more: 9% of Americans waited until "the last few days" to decide which candidate to support, and they broke for Obama.
In times of crisis, the American people naturally rally to the president. For days the hurricane and its aftermath dominated the news and allowed Obama to appear presidential. Romney's momentum was stopped, and there was not enough time to recover.
Looking Ahead
I remember how dejected conservatives felt in November 1996. All the hope and enthusiasm of 1994 failed to end the Clinton era. But as a friend reminded me today, every major cause and movement experiences setbacks.
Sure defeats are tough. Thankfully, George Washington didn't give up after a few defeats. Neither did Abraham Lincoln or Winston Churchill. Thankfully, Ronald Reagan didn't give up after 1976. WE ARE NOT GIVING UP EITHER!
In two years' time, Barack Obama's agenda will once again be on the ballot, and I am confident it will be just as unpopular then as it was in 2010. Looking ahead to the 2014 Senate races, there are at least eight states -- enough to take back the majority -- where conservative candidates can prevail.
And in 2014, the Democrats will be contending with the "six year itch," when voters historically punish the party that has held the White House for six years. Remember how awful 2006 was for Republicans? It will be Democrats' turn two years from now!
Defending Life
The 2012 elections may be over, but the battle for our values continues. I am heading to California tomorrow to help raise money for an outstanding crisis pregnancy center. Speaking at CPC dinners, being a voice for the voiceless, is not an obligation but rather a great privilege. And am I honored every time I have the opportunity to help those on the frontline in the fight for life.
I know many of you are just as committed to that cause as I am. So I encourage you to take part tonight in a post-election webcast hosted by my friend Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life. Click here to learn more and to register online.
Thank you!
My friends, I am overwhelmed by your kind response to our message earlier this morning. I can't possibly respond to each one, and I am struggling to read them all!
Friends like you keep me in this battle! I promise, so long as God grants me breath, that I will continue to fight the good fight for family, faith and freedom!

How do you blow an election when your opponent presided over the worst economy in memory - unemployment has hovered at 8% for almost four years; the price of gas has doubled; the national debt has grown by a third; long-term unemployment is up 87%; the number of Americans in poverty increased by 6.4 million; and the president's signature initiative (Obamacare) has been consistently opposed by a majority of Americans since it passed two and a half years ago?
How do you lose an election to an incumbent whose foreign policy consists of cringing, kowtowing and abject apologies - a foreign policy defined by the body of an American ambassador being dragged through the streets of a Third World sinkhole?
How do you manage to screw up a presidential campaign two years after your party sweeps into power in the House of Representatives with the largest majority in over 60 years and takes most of the swing-state governorships? How do you engineer such a catastrophe with one of the greatest populist movements in American history - the Tea Parties - at your back? Read more:

State Dept. Briefing For Foreign Reporters: 'We're Going To Get Downgraded' By Terence P. Hurricane Sandy drove the point home. The new threat, radical global Islam, has been sanitized by the Obama Administration, which wants the American people to believe that we should actually offer financial aid and assistance to Islamist regimes in the Middle East.
Everyone on the media these days answers questions, pro and con, as "Absolutely," meaning yes without question or hesitation and no without any holding back.
The lights have gone out in America now. They may come back. They may not. It's up to us. No one is going to come help us do it. Other countries have America. We have ourselves.
Some of our conservative friends will argue that Mr. Obama's victory thus represents a decline in national virtue and a tipping point in favor of the "takers" over the makers. They will say the middle class chose Mr. Obama's government blandishments over Mr. Romney's opportunity society. We don't think such a narrow victory of an incumbent President who continues to be personally admired justifies such a conclusion.

VIDEO: Obama supporters celebrate: No more Israel; kill those motherf***ers
Four more years!
More of what we have come to expect from the hater and his uneducated followers. Clearly, their history classes skipped over the San Remo conference (where England, France, Italy, and Japan, with the United States as an observer, divided the Ottoman Empire into three mandates: Iraq, Syria and Israel [Palestine]), the Balfour Agreement and the White Paper. Not to mention the bloody wars fought and won defending the Jewish state against relentless Muslim armies, or the 5,773 years of Jewish history in their homeland. What's sadder? These thugs and goons, or Obama's encouragement of this dangerous imbecility?

Another said, "Palestine was there first, and Israel moved in in the 1940s and that's an unfair attack." A man of Jewish heritage accompanying him said, "I really do not think that us being with Israel is a good choice for us":

Claim: Obama to target Netanyahu during second term. Official says White House pledged to blame Israeli leader for collapse of peace talks
If he secures another four years, President Obama will blame Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as the main party responsible for the collapse of negotiations with the Palestinian Authority, according to a senior PA negotiator speaking to KleinOnline.
The negotiator further claimed that Obama quietly pledged to the Palestinians a campaign at the United Nations to renew UN Security Council Resolution 242, which calls for a Palestinian state to be established in theWest Bank, Gaza Strip and eastern Jerusalem.
Obama's Benghazi investigator tied to Libya bombing. Globalist doctrine used to depose Gaddafi's regime
The Obama administration's lead investigator into the Benghazi attack, former Ambassador Thomas Pickering, previously held clandestine meetings with Hamas aiming to open U.S. dialogue with the terrorist group, according to informed Middle Eastern security officials.
Sources within Hamas previously disclosed to KleinOnline the June 2009 meeting. The confab allegedly took place in Geneva with two Hamas leaders - Bassem Naim and Mahmoud al-Zahar. Naim is Hamas' health minister, while al-Zahar is the chief of Hamas in Gaza.
Pickering, meanwhile, is further tied to the revolutions in the Middle East and North Africa via his role as a member of the small board of the International Crisis Group, or ICG, one of the main proponents of the international "Responsibility to Protect" doctrine.

Within Hours Of Re-Election Obama Backs UN Gun Grab Treaty
"Hours after U.S. President Barack Obama was re-elected, the United States backed a U.N. committee's call on Wednesday to renew debate over a draft international treaty to regulate the $70 billion global conventional arms trade.
U.N. delegates and gun control activists have complained that talks collapsed in July largely because Obama feared attacks from Republican rival Mitt Romney if his administration was seen as supporting the pact, a charge Washington denies.
The most charitable way of explaining the election results of 2012 is that Americans voted for the status quo - for the incumbent President and for a divided Congress. They must enjoy gridlock, partisanship, incompetence, economic stagnation and avoidance of responsibility. And fewer people voted. As I write, with almost all the votes counted, President Obama has won fewer votes than John McCain won in 2008, and more than ten million off his own 2008 total.
But as we awake from the nightmare, it is important to eschew the facile explanations for the Romney defeat that will prevail among the chattering classes. Romney did not lose because of the effects of Hurricane Sandy that devastated this area, nor did he lose because he ran a poor campaign, nor did he lose because the Republicans could have chosen better candidates, nor did he lose because Obama benefited from a slight uptick in the economy due to the business cycle.
Romney lost because he didn't get enough votes to win.
That might seem obvious, but not for the obvious reasons. Romney lost because the conservative virtues - the traditional American virtues - of liberty, hard work, free enterprise, private initiative and aspirations to moral greatness - no longer inspire or animate a majority of the electorate. The notion of the "Reagan Democrat" is one cliché that should be permanently retired.
Ronald Reagan himself could not win an election in today's America.
The simplest reason why Romney lost was because it is impossible to compete against free stuff.
Posted by Daniel Greenfield @ the Sultan Knish blog
Now that we have lost the election of 2012, where our champion, a third-rate imitation of Ronald Reagan, without either his charm or his principles, who believed in absolutely nothing except being the best salesman he could be; let's pause to reflect on all the things we lost out on through his defeat.
When we lose something, a relationship or a job, the grief comes from what we thought we had and what we imagined it was, not from what it truly was. Perspective means getting a true sense of what we had and what we never had to begin with.
So let's look at what we might have had with President Mitt Romney.
We lost the chance to have universal health care, with the mandate, become a principle that every conservative was duty-bound to defend.
Oh I know. Mitt Romney was going to repeal ObamaCare. And he was. And by "repeal", I mean he would have tinkered with it a bit and turned it into RomneyCare. And for the next four to eight years, it would have been heresy to ever suggest that we opposed universal health care with a mandate. Once Romney did that, it would have turned out that we only opposed universal health care with a mandate when it was badly enacted, without regard for businesses, by a Democrat.
The experts are wringing their hands trying to figure out why Romney didn't win, but now we know: the 14 million missing voters from Romney's column are Evangelicals.
Evangelical Christians may not be evil people, but they helped an evil president become an evil dictator on Tuesday. The exact numbers aren't in but clearly the vast majority of Evangelicals stayed home on Election Day. They weren't dealing with a storm or a personal family emergency. They stayed home because they made a conscious decision to allow our Marxist enemy to continue ruining our lives rather than have Mormon Mitt Romney as our president.
They draw their grounds for such a twisted thought from their interpretation of the Bible which they take literally - except of course for the part about handling poisonous snakes - that's where a more modern interpretation of Scripture takes hold.

Election Night Survey: Voters Conservative on Issues, No Trust in Either Party
The Breitbart News Network and Judicial Watch partnered with Public Opinion Strategies to conduct an election night survey that included 800 respondents contacted by land line (70%) and cell phone (30%). The partisan breakdown was D+3, within the margin of national exit polls, which suggested a D+6 electorate. The margin of error was 3.46%.
Voters' responses suggest that the American public agrees with conservative policies--but does not trust the Republican Party to implement them.

Philly Activist Group Shreds GOP Voter Registrations
by Mike Flynn 5 Nov 2012
The Community Voters Project is a "non-partisan" lefty organization whose mission is to register people to vote, with a particular emphasis on minorities. In the 2008 election, they had offices in 10 states and registered around 300,000 minority voters. So far, so good. This year, however, it seems they aren't registering everyone who wants to vote. Outside a CVP office in Philadelphia, for example, they shredded and threw away numerous registration forms. A number of these were for people trying to register as a Republican.
We know the Obama campaign engaged in massive voter fraud in 2008. They also sought unsuccessfully to suppress the military vote, which historically votes conservative. This time, they did both. Before the election, we heard almost weekly about some shipment of absentee ballots getting lost on the way to our troops in Afghanistan. Or ballots [...]

Barack Obama did not win a single state that requires this of voters.
He won several closely contested states that do not require it.
And in Colorado -- which does not require it -- 10 counties had a total registration ranging between 104 to 140 percent of their respective populations ... and voter turnout of 92 percent.
Defense Department can't put soldiers, ballots together
When the State of Ohio sought to give military men and women a three-day window to cast their votes, the Obama administration sued, arguing that "providing special consideration for the unique challenges faced [by] members of the military by ensuring that they have every opportunity to vote is 'entirely arbitrary' and has 'no legitimate justification' in the law ..."
So, why would Obama want to disenfranchise those who risk their lives for our country?
Republican Martha McSally holds a very fragile 400 vote lead over Democrat Ron Barber in the race for Arizona's Second Congressional District, formerly held by Gabrielle Giffords. McSally is a retired United States Air Force colonel. She was the first American woman to fly in combat following the 1991 lifting of the prohibition of women in combat, and the first woman to command a USAF fighter squadron. Barber was a career bureaucrat and a congressional staffer for Gabrielle Gifford whom he succeeded in Congress.
More than 228,000 votes have been counted. However, it appears that more than 70,000 have not.
The bulk of the uncounted votes appparently comes from Pima County, in which Barber held about a 3 point edge. But some are from Cochise County, where McSally prevailed by more than 20 points. Viewed another way, most of the uncounted ballots were cast early, and Barber is said to have won decisively with this segement of the voters. Thus, the edge probably goes to Barber.
If McSally manages to win, it will be nice to see another impressive woman (this time a non-liberal) represent this district.
No doubt we will have more to say about the election now and then, but it is time to get back to the issues. Conservatism, after all, is about issues far more than political campaigns. Issue number one is the national debt, currently in excess of $16 trillion.
The Obama administration made no effort to address the debt during its first term-other than adding more than a trillion dollars a year to it, that is. Obama won't do anything about it in his second term, either, unless he has to. But I suspect events will not allow him to ignore it for another four years.
If you want a preview of where our debt is taking us, check out Greece. The Economist reports:
Greece has been in recession for over five years. In August the unemployment rate rose for the 39th consecutive month. Joblessness among all workers stood at 25.4%, while unemployment for those aged 15-24 soared to 58%. More sobering still, the European Commission's latest economic outlook forecasts a contraction of 4.2% for the Greek economy in 2013. The Commission reckons the Greek economy might expand by 0.6% in 2014.
So Greeks are rioting:
Greece faced massive strikes turned riots yesterday as its government passed a new round of fiscal consolidation, designed to shrink the budget €18.5 billion by 2016. The contents of the austerity plan hardly seems like the stuff to drive Greeks to firebomb riot police; among the measures under debate were a two-year rise in the retirement age and measures to make it easier to fire public employees.
When Greeks riot, they don't fool around:
Does this guy look familiar?
Of course, there are many differences between the United States and Greece. For one thing, you are a lot deeper in debt than the Greeks are:
Actually, you are deeper in debt than anyone, and Barack Obama doesn't care. We are, as Mark Steyn sometimes says, the brokest nation in history. What can't go on forever, won't, and I don't think Obama can go four more years without the wave of debt crashing on his head. And ours:
I want to focus on the data about the economy, since the exit poll confirms that this was, primarily, an election about the economy.
To understand how President Obama won an election about the economy is this weak economy, consider two sets of numbers. First, 39 percent of voters think the economy is getting better; 30 percent think it's getting worse; and 29 percent think it's staying about the same.
Obama received 88 percent support among those who believe the economy is getting better, while Romney received 90 percent of the vote among those who think it's getting worse. Romney won among those who think it's staying the same by a 57-40 margin. But because of the plurality that thinks the economy is getting better, Obama comes out slightly ahead overall.
Second, on the question of who is mostly to blame for the current economic situation, Obama or former President Bush, 53 percent assign the primary blame to Bush compared to only 38 percent who mainly blame Obama. The answer to this question seems significant because, although in theory one can blame Bush more and still oppose Obama, in practice those who blame Bush more went for Obama by a margin of 85-12.
Many of these voters presumably blame Bush because they want to vote for Obama notwithstanding the economic situation, as opposed to voting for Obama based on a reasoned allocation of blame. Still, I think it's clear, and not really surprising, that (whether fairly or not) the Bush administration cast a shadow over this election. Democrats won't be able to run against Bush for as long as they did against Herbert Hoover (or Republicans did against Jimmy Carter). But it was unrealistic to believe that Bush wouldn't be a factor in this election.
But the big factor, I think, is that almost 40 percent of Americans believe the economy is getting better, while only 30 percent believe it's getting worse. Is the plurality correct? It's not clear. But 2012 has been a better year than 2011, so at a minimum, it isn't irrational to hold the plurality view. And that view, even if not held by a majority, coupled with the majority's understanding of how bad things were trending when Obama took office, provided Obama with just enough of an argument to prevail.
The Romney view presumably did enough polling and focus group testing to know what the exit poll reveals to the rest of us. This probably explains why Romney kept saying talking about the "weak recovery" and why he told voters that we don't have to settle for the high unemployment we're experiencing - that we can do better. The positive response Romney seemed to get from this line of attack in the debates, especially the first one, made me believe it might well carry the day.
It almost did, but fell a little short. And that, I think, is the main reason why Romney fell a little short of winning the presidency.
Wait, the turnout was what?! As the numbers continue to come into focus (and the final vote tally is still days or weeks away), the fact that Romney may underperform (or barely match) the listless McCain in 2008 is the real shocker of the election. Maybe we should have just run McCain/Palin again. Obama's vote total will be down something like six to eight million from his 2008 total; it is unprecedented for a president to be re-elected without adding to his vote total from the first election. Hardly a vote of confidence.
The white vote, it turns out, was tepid. If the white vote had turned out to its potential, Romney wins and we wouldn't need to go through the current hand-wringing about whether the GOP needs to seek amnesty from Latinos. What's going on here? Keep two factoids in mind. First, according to exit polls Romney won white evangelicals by a four-to-one margin-as high or higher than George W. Bush in 2004. But second, recall Karl Rove's theory after the 2000 election that Bush's missing majority in that train-wreck election was the 3 million or so evangelicals who stayed home and didn't vote, possibly because they were put off by the late DUI news about Bush. Finding and (successfully) turning out those voters became the key to Bush's increased margin of victory in 2004.
It's going to be a while before we know better whether the total potential evangelical vote didn't turn out for Romney, and if not, why. Could it have been that many evangelicals couldn't bring themselves to vote for a Mormon, and simply stayed home? I distinctly recall polling data from back in 2008 that found as many as 20 percent of voters said they wouldn't vote for a Mormon (versus only about 1 or 2 percent for a black or a Jew), and I wondered whether those 20 percent were un- or anti-religious liberals who wouldn't vote for a Republican in any case, or whether they were theologically conservative evangelicals who are uncomfortable with heterodox Mormon doctrine? I've had numerous conversations with serious evangelical friends over the last couple of years who all said of course I'll vote for Romney because I can't stand Obama, but they admitted having doubts about it. My self-selecting sample are mostly intellectual and politically-engaged evangelicals; what about the kind of evangelical that doesn't like or follow politics closely? Keep in mind that a lot of evangelicals eschew politics as a this-worldly dominion best left alone: the City of Man versus City of God.
Evangelical America has been flogging Mormonism as Satan's own retail outlet for decades. But the suddenly ubiquitous appearances of the word cult on the eleven o'clock news and in ostensibly serious political conversations in the early primary days gave legitimacy on the national stage to the characterization of me as a glassy-eyed, reclusive loon from whom the neighborhood alley cats run in fear.
One thing for sure: the major media and establishment political analysts won't touch this with a ten-foot pole.
In a post below, a trial lawyer friend of John and Scott applies some of his litigation wisdom to electoral politics. Let me offer an analogy along the same lines.
What would you, as a defense lawyer, say to a consultant who advised you (a) that jurors from a particular demographic group (say, African-Americans) have a strong propensity to sympathize with a particular type of plaintiff in the kind of case you're defending (for example, an African-American plaintiff in a race discrimination case) and (b) that, in selecting the jury, you should try to maximize the number of African-Americans on the jury?
I would tell the consultant, "you're fired."
Yet this, in essence, is the advice the Republican Party receives from those who say that because Hispanics are voting for Democrats in large numbers, Republicans should join Democrats in pushing for comprehensive immigration reform.
Naturally, those who offer this advice don't frame it the way I have. However, as the Democrats shrewdly insist, any comprehensive immigration reform proposal must include a path to citizenship (i.e. voting status) for large numbers of illegal immigrants, nearly all of them Hispanic. And the propensity of these immigrants - low-income, poorly educated, etc. - to vote for Democrats will be even greater than that of current Hispanic-Americans.
Thus, Republicans are being urged to support legislation that will significantly increase the number of voters who will, en masse, vote for Democrats. What a deal.
If the legislation in question had merit - either in pragmatic or moral terms - then Republicans would be duty-bound to consider it, regardless of the political consequences. But I see no merit in awarding the great benefit of American citizenship (or a path thereto) to those who have thumbed their nose at American law or to their offspring.
It is argued that Hispanics are hard-working and God-fearing, and that therefore they make natural Republicans. The premises of this argument are very true. However, it is hubris to believe that hard-working, God-fearing folk are natural Republicans regardless of their other characteristics. Hard-working, God-fearing people, when they inhabit the lowest economic rungs in society, like receiving government benefits at least as much as do their more neighbors in American. And the Republicans will never replace the Democrats as the party of free stuff, nor should they aspire to.
The immigrants who came to this country in the early part of the 20th century - Catholics from Italy; Jews from Eastern Europe, etc. - were hard-working and God-fearing. They reliably supported FDR liberalism, except to the extent that, finding FDR too conservative, they backed the Socialist Party.
Many of these immigrants' descendants became Reagan Democrats (though not so much among Jews). But this was more than half a century after the fact, and only after America had been radically transformed. While it is important for Republicans to think ahead, we shouldn't be targeting a return to power in 2060.
But where, in shorter term, will Republicans find votes in a changing America if they don't broaden their appeal to Hispanics? Looking at data from the just-completed election, Sean Trende finds that a big chunk of the white vote stayed home this year, as compared to 2008. If so, that's a potential source of extra Republican voters.
Moreover, it may be possible for Republicans to reduce slightly the Republican deficit in the Hispanic vote without supporting legislation that meaningfully will increase the number of illegal aliens who can become citizens. Finally, it seems likely that the Democrats, beholden as they are to African-American and Hispanic voters, will increasingly alienate White voters who, after all, will remain the big majority of the electorate for a good while.
In any event, the solution is not artificially to boost Hispanic representation in the electorate by supporting immigration measures that will accomplish just that.
Obamacare: The Battle Intensifies
Obamacare is not here to stay. Despite the 2012 election, the assumption that the health care law will stay on course is another example of the left's wishful thinking.
Of course, efforts for a complete repeal will likely face the same fate as efforts in the last Congress did. But there are ample reasons, as well as opportunities, to change the course of this law.
Public opinion has not changed.Exit polls show that the majority of Americans still want the law repealed in full or in part. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was absolutely right when she famously remarked in 2010 that "we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it." With continuing revelations of increasing costs, higher taxes, and a flood of directives from Washington bureaucrats, the polls have since shown that the American people still do not like the law.
There is still so much more to know-and not like. Americans know that this law was enacted in haste and that critical details are still to be decided and enforced. What is a qualified health plan? What will be in the essential benefit package? How will the employer and individual mandate be implemented? The list goes on.
As these regulatory details emerge, they will generate even more public controversy and create even more practical obstacles for implementation. Naturally, these instances will provide ample opportunities for legislative remedial action.
Bipartisan opposition to the law will continue. While the House vote earlier this year pressured five Democrats to support full repeal, more significant were the various piecemeal repeal bills that gained bipartisan support. Most notable, repeal of the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), the unelected group of experts in charge of cutting future Medicare payments, passed the House and had more than 234 cosponsors-Republicans and Democrats. These efforts will likely gain more attention in the future, as will efforts to weaken other elements of the law. House majority leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) has already vowed a vote on the IPAB repeal again. past.

About The Heritage Foundation
Founded in 1973, The Heritage Foundation is a research and educational institute - a think tank - whose mission is to formulate and promote conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense.
The following is adapted from remarks Heritage Foundation President Ed Feulner delivered Wednesday to Heritage staff.
I imagine that, besieged and belittled on all sides, and confronted with such a formidable array of adversaries - in the White House, Congress, the media and the academy - all determined to undo the Reagan Revolution and establish the Obama Revolution in its stead, many of you may look around in despair and ask: "Where is the cavalry that can come galloping to our rescue and save us from disaster?"
But I have news for you: This time around, we at The Heritage Foundation are the cavalry.
We are the flagship conservative organization that carries on the Reagan legacy.
We are the people conservatives look to stop the Obama Revolution in its tracks.
In large measure, it's up to us to nobly save, or meanly lose, this great American experiment in democratic self-government.
Looking back on the nearly four decades that have elapsed since The Heritage Foundation opened its doors, it seems to me that perhaps everything we have built up, slowly and painfully, has finally led us to this defining moment.
Our brilliant team of analysts;
Our unparalleled capacity to communicate with grassroots America;
Our ability to market our ideas;
Our superb contacts on Capitol Hill;
The huge clout we wield through our sister-organization, Heritage Action for America;
Our influential friends on talk-radio and generally, in the media;
Our hundreds of thousands of dedicated members; and
Our millions upon millions of friends and well-wishers -- all these hard-won assets must now be brought into play as we wage the fight of our lives.
My friends, we too have many challenging days ahead of us.
But they can also be great days, provided we recognize that we conservatives have not lost the war.
We have merely lost a battle in an on-going struggle.
The main thing is not to play into the Left's hands by giving up the struggle. That would be truly catastrophic.
So let us not be frightened or anxious or downcast.
Let us rather remind ourselves that we are immensely privileged to participate in a struggle that is much, much larger than ourselves.
We are well-armed -- morally, intellectually, and materially -- to carry on this struggle. And with God's help, and in His own good time, we will take our country back.
In fact, the challenges facing Obamacare (formally the Affordable Care Act) are actually just getting started, Butler says:
The primary reasons for this are the continuing problems with the federal budget deficit and the national debt and the worrying long-term weakness of the economy. Add to that the increasing skepticism that the ACA's blunt tools will slow costs.
There has been no boost in trade freedom over the last year, according to the forthcoming 2013 Index of Economic Freedom.
The global level of economic freedom rose steadily for 15 years, according to the Index, which Heritage publishes annually with the Wall Street Journal. Since 2011, however, economic freedom has stalled at a score of 74.5 out of 100. The United States recently fell from the ranks of free countries and is now classified as "mostly free."

Political leaders from both parties promised to focus on the fiscal cliff and to avoid year-end spending cuts and tax increases that threaten to push the U.S. back into recession.
Yesterday, the Labor Department announced the number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits fell last week, although Hurricane Sandy distorted the data.
Now that President Obama will never face re-election again, it is time for the campaigning to end. Perpetual political rhetoric and promises do not matter any more. Action-and leadership-are sorely needed on pressing issues that threaten the United States. America's people are under threats to their livelihoods, their protection, and their freedom. For some of these, deadlines for action have already come and gone, making them more dire than ever.
Here are the top five problems that require the President's immediate attention.
1. Massive Tax Increases Scheduled
When the chairman of the Federal Reserve says the nation is headed over a cliff, the President should take notice. A total of nearly $500 billion in tax increases-old tax policies expiring and new ones taking effect-is scheduled to hit on January 1. This "Taxmageddon" fiscal-end-of-days scenario will hit individuals and their families, struggling small businesses and investors alike. So much for creating jobs. The Congressional Budget Office, which does not normally forecast recessions, has said that without some action to change our direction, the country is heading straight for another recession in 2013. As Heritage's J.D. Foster wrote, "If a slowdown or even a recession unfolds as CBO predicts, the blame will lie with President Obama."
2. Cuts to the U.S. Military
Through a legislative process called sequestration, the President and his allies in Congress thought they could secure tax increases by holding America's military hostage. So they programmed massive cuts to our defenses to take effect in January. Using the military as a political weapon is wrong, and nothing has been done to prevent these harmful cuts. While our enemies build up their weapons programs and terrorists target Americans around the globe, the U.S. is preparing to radically downsize the military-all because the President and liberals in Congress want to raise taxes.
So far, the President hasn't achieved his tax hike goal. If the military cuts are allowed to go forward, it will devastate our defenses. Contrary to the political rhetoric, Washington leaders could fix this without raising taxes.
3. The Middle East
It's easy in a campaign to say you'd rather focus on "nation building here at home." But the Middle East is ablaze with conflict, and that is not going to be put on hold for the President to focus on other issues. According to some reports, Iran could be able to arm a nuclear bomb within the next few months.
Heritage's James Carafano writes today: "Tehran's nuclear ambitions, protests in the Gulf States, an increasingly unsteady Egypt, terrorists in the Sahel-these are all distinct problems, yet each has the potential to cascade throughout the region and beyond."
4. Terrorism
To begin, the President needs to come clean about the intelligence regarding the terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya, that killed the U.S. ambassador and others.
There is more than enough evidence that the President's counterterrorism strategy, though less than two years old, has come to the end of its life. That strategy focused on "decapitating" al-Qaeda. It didn't work because al-Qaeda is really just a piece of a global Islamist insurgency. Unlike a drug cartel, it can't be taken down by just taking out the leadership. Unless the President changes course soon, terrorists will have more sanctuaries by 2016 than they had in 2010.
5. Obamacare's Mandate Threatening Religious Liberty
Just a few days ago, a second federal district court issued a preliminary injunction on behalf of a family-owned business against the Health and Human Services (HHS) mandate under Obamacare. The HHS mandate forces nearly all employers to pay for abortion-inducing drugs, sterilization, and contraceptives in their employee health coverage, regardless of religious objections. It disregards conscience and steamrolls religious freedom: Religious charities and family-owned businesses that object are forced to pay massive fines for non-compliant plans-up to $100 per day per employee. For a company like Hobby Lobby with more than 500 stores, that fine would amount to $1.3 million per day.
No wonder more than 100 plaintiffs have joined legal challenges to the mandate, which went into effect on August 1. As employers reach their health plan annual renewal date, they'll be forced to comply. This is only one of the many obtrusive parts of Obamacare, but it is an immediate problem for employers-costly, demoralizing, and a direct attack on religious freedom.
What Happened? By Rich GalenBut, there is a deeper issue that The Republican Party will have to deal with the fact that it is aging its way into, not minority party status, but minor party status. The "right wing of the Republican party" has become a redundancy. It now is the Republican Party and there simply aren't enough voters who agree with all of the Tea Party doctrine to win a national election.
Zawahiri's claims are far better in touch with reality than the president's candied campaign lines about a receding tide of war, and al Qaeda in retreat.
Stupid or not, it's still going to be the economy.
WASHINGTON -- Jimmy Carter is redeemed! The grinning dunce of yesteryear, who grew into the anile doddering figure of today lecturing the civilized on all manner of statecraft, has been replaced by the saturnine gaunt prophet, Barack Obama. His sorry performance these past four years he lays to the administration of George W. Bush. The next four years will be a replay of the last four years, and an even graver crisis will confront us then with the domestic economy in a funk and foreign potentates all laughing at us.
