The U.S. Mission in Benghazi convened an "emergency meeting" less than a month before the assault that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans, because Al Qaeda had training camps in Benghazi and the consulate could not defend against a "coordinated attack," according to a classified cable reviewed by Fox News.
Summarizing an Aug. 15 emergency meeting convened by the U.S. Mission in Benghazi, the Aug. 16 cable marked "SECRET" said that the State Department's senior security officer, also known as the RSO, did not believe the consulate could be protected.
"RSO (Regional Security Officer) expressed concerns with the ability to defend Post in the event of a coordinated attack due to limited manpower, security measures, weapons capabilities, host nation support, and the overall size of the compound," the cable said.
According to a review of the cable addressed to the Office of the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the Emergency Action Committee was also briefed "on the location of approximately ten Islamist militias and AQ training camps within Benghazi ... these groups ran the spectrum from Islamist militias, such as the QRF Brigade and Ansar al-Sharia, to 'Takfirist thugs.'" Each U.S. mission has a so-called Emergency Action Committee that is responsible for security measures and emergency planning.
The details in the cable seemed to foreshadow the deadly Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. compound, which was a coordinated, commando-style assault using direct and indirect fire. Al Qaeda in North Africa and Ansar al-Sharia, both mentioned in the cable, have since been implicated in the consulate attack.

Facebook Censors Navy SEALs to Protect Obama on Benghazi-Gate

Over the weekend, Facebook took down a message by the Special Operations Speaks PAC (SOS) which highlighted the fact that Obama denied backup to the forces being overrun in Benghazi.
The message was contained in a meme which demonstrated how Obama had relied on the SEALS when he was ready to let them get Osama bin Laden, and how he had turned around and denied them when they called for backup on Sept 11.
I spoke with Larry Ward, president of Political Media, Inc -- the media company that handles SOS postings and media production. Ward was the one who personally put the Navy SEAL meme up, and the one who received the warning from Facebook and an eventual 24 hour suspension from Facebook because Ward put the meme back up after Facebook told him to take it down.
Here's what Ward told me:
We created and posted this meme on Saturday after news broke that Obama had known and denied SEALS the backup they requested.
Once the meme was up it garnered 30,000 shares, approx. 24,000 likes, and was read by hundreds of thousands of people -- all within 24 hrs. On Sunday, I went into the SOS Facebook page to post something else and found a warning from Facebook that we had violated Facebook's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities with our meme. So I copied the warning, put it on the meme as as caption, and re-posted the meme to the Facebook page.
Along with the re-posted meme, Ward put a link to the Facebook "feedback comment" inbox so visitors to the SOS page could send a message to Facebook if they were as outraged over the meme being jerked down as he was.

Candidates can't run from the 2012 AFA Voter Guide

Election Day is only a week away but in many states, early voting is available now. To learn where the candidates stand on critical issues that should unite Christian voters, I urge you visit the AFA Voter Guide today at www.AFAAction.net. Although the AFA Voter Guide is comprehensive (with information gathered on over 6,000 candidates), simply enter the address where you are registered to vote to find specific candidates you will be voting for on Tuesday, November 6.
If you can vote early in your state, please take advantage of the opportunity so that something doesn't happen on Election Day to keep you from voting in this critical election. Simply not voting is a cop-out, not an option. "Christians who boycott voting," says Russell D. Moore, dean of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, are "more akin to Pontius Pilate washing his hands rather than John the Baptist taking on the powers-that-be..." One of the two major presidential candidates will be the next president. "None of the above" is not on the ballot.
I've tried to balance the call to vote and pray for this critical election. The Presidential Prayer Team has these recommendations for prayer:
Pray for your choices and ask God to lead you as you vote.
Pray that integrity and honesty will prevail in the voting process.
Pray for the protection and accurate counting of every ballot, including absentee and military ballots (although the current administration has been attempting to suppress the latter).
Pray that those who believe in prayer will turn out at the polls to ensure their Christian values are voiced and protected.

Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet,The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.
The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.
Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.
Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.
The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.
The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.
The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz described the Medicare reforms proposed by GOP Vice-Presidential nominee and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) as "literally a death trap for seniors." White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters that Ryan's reforms would "change Medicare as we know it."
But it was Obamacare that already changed Medicare as we know it, transforming it literally into a death trap for seniors. Obamacare cut Medicare by $716 billion over the next 10 years alone, mostly by slashing Medicare payments to doctors and hospitals. And that is just a down-payment on what is to come.

THERE IS A GROWING awareness among Americans that religious freedom in our country has come under sustained pressures. In the public square where freedom of religion meets public policy, it becomes clearer all the time that there is a high price to be paid for being true to one's conscience. This is no tale of Chicken Little-although a chain of chicken sandwich restaurants based in Atlanta is part of the story. Let me give you a few examples.
In our universities, those citadels of toleration, we find that toleration can be sharply limited. At the Hastings College of Law in San Francisco, the student chapter of the Christian Legal Society was denied any status on the campus because it would not abandon its requirement that members commit themselves to traditional Christian norms regarding sexual morality. The U.S. Supreme Court, in a 5-4 ruling in 2010, held that the student group's rights were not violated by a "take all comers" policy. Following this lead, Vanderbilt University has rewritten its student organizations policy and effectively chased every traditionally Christian student group off campus, denying them regular access to campus facilities. And at the University of Illinois, an adjunct professor of religion, hired to teach a course on Catholicism, was let go because a student complained about his patient explanation of the Catholic Church's natural law teachings on human sexuality. (He was later restored to his teaching duties, but at the expense of the Newman Center, not on the state payroll.)

The following is adapted from a speech delivered on September 20, 2012, in Washington, D.C., at Hillsdale College's third annual Constitution Day Dinner.
ONCE UPON A TIME, hardly anyone dissented from the idea that, for better or worse, the United States of America was different from all other nations. This is not surprising, since the attributes that made it different were vividly evident from the day of its birth. Let me say a few words about three of them in particular.
First of all, unlike all other nations past or present, this one accepted as a self-evident truth that all men are created equal. What this meant was that its Founders aimed to create a society in which, for the first time in the history of the world, the individual's fate would be determined not by who his father was, but by his own freely chosen pursuit of his own ambitions. In other words, America was to be something new under the sun: a society in which hereditary status and class distinctions would be erased, leaving individuals free to act and to be judged on their merits alone. There remained, of course, the two atavistic contradictions of slavery and the position of women; but so intolerable did these contradictions ultimately prove that they had to be resolved-even if, as in the case of the former, it took the bloodiest war the nation has ever fought.
Secondly, in all other countries membership or citizenship was a matter of birth, of blood, of lineage, of rootedness in the soil. Thus, foreigners who were admitted for one reason or another could never become full-fledged members of the society. But America was the incarnation of an idea, and therefore no such factors came into play. To become a full-fledged American, it was only necessary to pledge allegiance to the new Republic and to the principles for which it stood.
Thirdly, in all other nations, the rights, if any, enjoyed by their citizens were conferred by human agencies: kings and princes and occasionally parliaments. As such, these rights amounted to privileges that could be revoked at will by the same human agencies. In America, by contrast, the citizen's rights were declared from the beginning to have come from God and to be "inalienable"-that is, immune to legitimate revocation.
Then there's this wrinkle in the early-voting-will-give-Obama-an-unbeatable-edge narrative, as laid out by Dave Weigel:
It hasn't gotten too much attention outside of talk radio, but if accurate, Gallup's study of early voters neutralizes one of the Obama campaign's best road-to-victory talking points. As it conducted tracking polls (which have been paused for now), Gallup asked voters whether they'd cast ballots or intended to before election day. The early voters broke 52-46 for Mitt Romney. The dawdling voters who would vote before election day were tied, 49-49. The voters waiting for November 6 broke for Romney, again, by a 6-point margin.
This would be easy to explain away if Obama had lagged in 2008's early vote. After all, this study includes votes in Georgia and Texas and other places that have broken away from Obama. But . . . in 2008, Obama was winning this vote. An identical Gallup study taken around the same time gave Obama a 53-43 lead with early voters and a 50-44 lead on voters who would wait for election day.
Remember, "If votes cast on Election Day decided the 2008 election, McCain would have won in Florida, Colorado, North Carolina and Iowa." That's how central the early vote is to Obama's strategy.
Richard Grenell summarizes a take: "It's happening. Romney winning independents, safe Obama states no longer safe, female gap closing. Obama is in trouble."

I think most Americans feel that way. The people of Ohio and Florida are begging for a return to TV ads for male enhancement drugs and self-lubricating catheters.
Right now, according to a Fox News poll, the race is tied. A National Journal poll has Obama up 5. A Rasmussen poll has Romney up 2. Nobody really knows who is ahead. I think Romney is. My Democrat friends think Obama is. Privately, everyone concedes they really don't know.
At this point, I have a hard time believing undecided voters are going to vote. The die is cast. There is little more either side can do to shift voters. Right now it is all about turning out the vote, not persuading people.

(October 31, 2012) -- The Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) today launched the final ad in its "My Buyer's Remorse" campaign, featuring Bryna Franklin of Jerusalem, a lifelong Democrat and former chair of Democrats Abroad Israel. She voted for a Republican for President for the first time in her 80 years when she voted this year for Mitt Romney.
Bryna, a delegate to the 1992 Democratic National Convention and who served for years as vice chair of the Franklin County Democratic Central Committee in Missouri, explained her decision as stemming from a deep disappointment in President Obama on a range of issues.
Because of the sustained high unemployment rates, the loss of property value and the high foreclosure rates, and the fact that a large part of every dollar our government spends is borrowed from China, Bryna thinks the President's record on the economy is dismal.
She believes that President Obama's foreign policy actions have weakened America and undermined our relationships with our allies. In particular, she thinks that the President's hostility to Israel does immense harm to both Israel and the U.S.
RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks said, "Bryna has been an active and committed Democrat her whole life. But this year, like many other Jewish Democrats, she is calling on her fellow Jews across America to support Mitt Romney."
The ad is part of the RJC's $6.5 million effort to reach out to Jewish voters in Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Nevada. It is running on broadcast and cable television as a 30-second spot. A longer web version is also available.

Dr. Essam Abdallah, an Egyptian liberal intellectual, in an article published last October in the leading liberal pan-Arab journal Elaph, refers to certain reports coming out of Washington:
These reports reveal the depth of the below-the-surface coordination between the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), Hamas, Hezbollah, the Iranian regime and the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, Syria, Tunisia, Libya and Jordan. On Fox this evening, Hannity discusses the Benghazi cover up with left-leaning Juan Williams. Hannity debates whether or not Obama should release the audio recordings relating to the attack and the defenders like Ty Woods who came to the consulate's aid.

US federal agencies have been investigating whether a Turkish religious community operating schools worldwide is involved in visa fraud to bring teachers from Turkey to the United States.
The FBI and other U.S. federal agencies have been investigating whether a Turkish religious community operating hundreds of schools worldwide is involved in visa fraud to bring teachers from Turkey to the United States.
The claim was made in a broad analysis by the Philadelphia Enquirer on religious leader Fethullah Gülen, who the paper describes as "a major Islamic political figure in Turkey," and the more than 120 charter schools in the United States that are linked to his movement.
"Religious scholars consider the Gülen strain of Islam moderate, and the investigation has no link to terrorism. Rather, it [the investigation] is focused on whether hundreds of Turkish teachers, administrators and other staffers employed under the 'H1B visa program' are misusing taxpayer money," the newspaper wrote. H1B visas are meant to be reserved for workers with highly specialized skill sets.
The charter schools are funded with millions of taxpayer dollars, according to the daily. "Truebright [Science Academy in Pennsylvania] alone receives more than $3 million from the Philadelphia School District for its 348 pupils," said the newspaper.
The Departments of Labor and Education are also involved in investigating the claims of kickbacks to the Muslim movement founded by Gülen, known as "Hizmet" (Service), according to the paper.
Gülen, who has been living in the United States since 1999, is a Turkish religious leader whose movement is considered one of the strongest fronts in the civilian struggle for power in Turkey, especially because of its influence over state structures in the country.
Worldwide, the Gülen movement is known mostly for the schools it has established in Turkey and in more than 80 countries.

Federal officials declined to comment on the nationwide inquiry, which is being coordinated by prosecutors in Pennsylvania's Middle District in Scranton, the Philadelphia Enquirer wrote. A former leader of the parents' group at a Gülen-founded charter school in State College, Pennsylvania, confirmed that federal authorities had interviewed her.
Although many have posited links between the Gülen movement and the charity schools around the world, followers deny the links.
The newspaper wrote that Bekir Aksoy, who acts as Gülen's spokesman, said last Friday that he knew nothing about charter schools or an investigation. (Dave's comment: Leave it to an Islamist to make an absurd bald-faced lie.)
The arrest of over 53 people in the United Kingdom is the beginning of the end for once-great Britain. The leaders of the English Defence League (EDL), Tommy Robinson and Kevin Carroll, were among those arrested, as well as Paul Weston of the British Freedom Party (BFP). I spoke with Kevin Carroll about his recent arrest and that of Robinson and Weston, and he told me the appalling details.
Carroll told me that British authorities tried everything in the book to stop him from running for police and crime commissioner (PCC) for the Bedfordshire Police Authority. Nonetheless, he officially won the right to run for PCC last Friday. But then, the very next day, British authorities carried out these mass arrests of EDL and BFP members, stripping them and forcing them to wear white paper overalls like those given to incarcerated terrorists. They were allowed no phone calls.
Meanwhile, British police raided the homes of Carroll, Robinson, and three others who had been arrested. "They absolutely ransacked mine," Carroll told me. "They smashed the door off and wrecked my home. They took my only vehicle, with all the tools of my trade inside, and impounded it, as well as Tommy's car." The police, the bomb squad, forensics teams, and sniffer dogs spent seven and a half hours stripping Carroll's van to the bone. "When they finished," he said, "they found nothing! They loaded it up with bugs and GPS monitors and threw everything in the back; it looks like it's been in a blender."
After smashing the door to Carroll's home off its hinges, police officials repaired it, got a locksmith to put on a new lock, and left with the new keys, leaving Carroll locked out of his own home. When Carroll was released, still wearing his white paper prison suit, it was dark and raining; true to form, police officials offered him no transportation, even though it was late at night on a Sunday.
Robinson is being held in Wandsworth prison, an old and antiquated structure with a large population of Muslim prisoners. Weston was arrested and later released without charge for refusing to leave a reception area without information about Robinson. And it is clear why officials would not want that information to get out: not only has Robinson been placed with the general prison population instead of segregated for his own protection, but prison officials have even put him in a cell with hostile Muslims. He was allowed to call his wife Jenna, and he told her that he knew it was going to be "lively" in the cell. That was an understatement: prison officials have deliberately put Robinson in physical danger and even imperiled his life. Carroll contacted a high-ranking police official to request that Robinson be segregated, and she received a promise that he would be, but it hasn't happened yet -- and Robinson has even been denied bail.
"They are really coming at us with everything," Carroll told me. "I'm even on police bail at the moment for 'conspiracy to cause a public nuisance.'" This is a politically motivated and trumped up charge, but in Britain it can carry a life sentence.

I've asked this question to a number of people and most them respond as if I were crazy for asking. They tell me that this is America , land of the free and that there will always be elections. I tell them that we are no longer the land of the free and that if Obama gets re-elected in 2012, that this just may be America 's last election.
In the past three years, the Obama administration has been very carefully crafting the nation for a political take over by his Marxist regime and this isn't just my opinion.
Popular radio talk show host Michael Savage is the son of Russian immigrants and is very familiar with Soviet and European history.
Savage warned his listeners this week saying, "I have to tell you that if this man, God forbid, is the next president of the United States, we're going to be living in something along the lines of - people say Europe. I don't believe it's going to be like Europe - I think it will be closer to Chavez's South American dictatorship.
"This is the most corrupt, incompetent, dangerous tyrannical administration in American history. It's not politics as usual. It's not just Democrats versus Republicans. Obama has a long history of being at odds with American values and with America itself and the core principles of this country. They don't want government-sponsored opinions. They only want government-sponsored 'Pravda.' That's exactly what the government-media complex tells you on a daily basis - nothing but the government-media complex party line. Pay attention. Your freedom may be at stake."
Over the weekend, Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum told a small group of people in an Iowa coffee house that, "Barack Obama is not incompetent, ladies and gentleman. He knows exactly what he's doing and why he's doing it. He sees America differently than you see America .
[Obama] has gone out of his way to divide this country in a way I haven't seen since the Great Depression when Franklin Roosevelt went around to divide his country. That's his hero. What makes America great [in Obama's mind is that] the government takes money from somebody and gives it to somebody else. No, that's what makes America , France ."
We're still 1.5 percent below the the pre-recession per capita GDP peak. At the rate of growth seen in the past three quarters, we won't get above it until the second quarter of 2014, five years after the recession officially ended. No post-World War II economy has performed this poorly after a recession.

If it's true that hysteria reveals itself in out of character behavior, Barack Obama must be the most panicked man in the US. For not only has Barack cancelled campaign trips to Colorado and Virginia, he even flew to Florida for a scheduled event in Orlando only to turn around and fly back to Washington, DC before it took place! That Barack would pass on opportunities designed to secure another 4 years of dictatorial power is more than unusual behavior, it's downright scary!
After all, Obama did a CBS interview and promptly flew off to a campaign fundraiser in Las Vegas just hours after 4 Americans had been killed in Benghazi! (1) So it's obvious that neither human compassion nor attending to the duties of his office rate high enough on His Majesty's "to do" list to miss an opportunity to collect votes or money.
A horrifying combination of expiring pro-growth tax policies from 2001 and 2003, the end of the once-temporary payroll tax cut, and just a few of Obamacare's 18 new tax hikes, Taxmageddon will be the largest tax increase EVER to hit Americans. It's nearly $500 billion in one year, starting January 1. That's two months away.
The number $500 billion is rather large and abstract, so The Heritage Foundation has broken down the expected tax increases per person just for 2013:
Families with an average income of $70,662: tax increase of $4,138
Baby boomers with an average income of $95,099: tax increase of $4,223
Low-income workers with an average income of $24,757: tax increase of $1,207
Millennials with an average income of $23,917: tax increase of $1,099
Retirees with an average income of $42,553: tax increase of $857
And if that isn't scary enough, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office has forecasted another recession in the coming year. The last thing this country needs is another recession, after years of high unemployment and months of a sluggish, barely noticeable recovery.

The businesses that would pay the higher tax rates proposed by President Obama earn almost all the income earned by small businesses that employ workers. According to President Obama's own Treasury Department, these job creators earn 91 percent of the income earned by flow-through employer-businesses. These are the biggest, most successful small businesses. They employ more than half the private workforce, according to an Ernst and Young study. Raising their taxes would destroy more than 700,000 jobs.
There's one way to address Taxmageddon-reverse it.
Why hasn't Congress acted to prevent this? Simple: The House passed a bill that would prevent the largest share of Taxmageddon, but the Senate failed to finish the job.
It appears this job will fall to the next Congress now. When the new Congress takes office on January 3, 2013, after counting the electoral votes for the presidency, the first order of business should be to reverse Taxmageddon. The congressional leadership and the successful presidential candidate should make clear right after the election that reversing Taxmageddon will be their top priority, to reassure businesses and employees as soon as possible.
If this future Congress also fails to act, as the current Congress has, then trick-or-treaters for years to come will tremble at the telling of this tale-a Congress who, when economic darkness threatened, chose this cruel and mysterious route of making things worse.
As we have written more than once, the news media's collaboration in the Obama administration's coverup of the Benghazi scandal is a scandal in itself. There are, of course, a few exceptions, most notably Fox News. But in general, Benghazi has not received anywhere near the attention it deserves from journalists. I think most voters are generally aware that the administration provided inadequate security prior to the terrorist attack on September 11. I would guess that around one-half of voters understand that the administration tried to pass off a terrorist attack as a spontaneous protest over a YouTube video. And maybe 25% or so are aware of the charge that the besieged Americans at the Benghazi consulate called repeatedly for help, but were ignored by President Obama. Moreover, beyond any bare awareness of the facts, there is a big difference between what we see today-Bengahzi consigned to the back pages or not reported on at all, as in the case of the New York Times-and what we should be seeing, i.e., questions about Benghazi featured on every front page and the evening news.
So, despite the mass media blockade, is public awareness of the magnitude of the Benghazi scandal deepening? There are signs that to some degree, it may be. The best evidence is a joke that Jay Leno told last night:
Well, Don't Ask, Don't Tell is back. Not for gays in the military. It's President Obama's new policy for questions about Libya. Don't ask. Don't tell.
Late-night comedy can be a useful barometer because mainstream comics like Leno don't tell jokes their audience won't get. Leno's joke assumes that most Americans know that there is some kind of coverup going on with respect to Libya. It does not, however, presume specific knowledge of the explosive allegations that have emerged on Fox over the last few days.
A group of former special operators have set up a Facebook page called SOS: Special Operations Speaks. SOS posted this graphic on their Facebook page:
Facebook took the graphic down twice on the ground that it violated their terms of service, but it is now back up on the SOS site. Apparently Facebook thinks criticism of Barack Obama is somehow beyond the pale. Keep that in mind next time someone tells you that liberals are in favor of free speech.
Earlier today, four senators-John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Kelly Ayotte and Ron Johnson-wrote to President Obama to demand answers on Benghazi. Here is their letter in full:
Dear Mr. President:
The American people deserve to know all the facts surrounding the terrorist attack in Benghazi on September 11, 2012, that resulted in the murder of four Americans-including Ambassador Chris Stevens. Unfortunately, you and your senior administration officials have not been forthcoming in providing answers to the many questions that have emerged.
On October 9, 2012, we sent a letter to the senior intelligence officials in your administration in an effort to obtain answers to these questions. More than three weeks have passed, and we still have not received a response. To make matters worse, since that original letter, we sent several subsequent letters to you or to your senior administration officials asking a number of questions, and we have failed to receive a single letter in response.
The American people and their representatives in Congress need to understand what you knew about the Benghazi terrorist attack and when you knew it. We also have a right to know what steps you and your administration took-or failed to take-before, during, and after the terrorist attack to protect American lives.
In order to facilitate an immediate response to our important questions on behalf of the American people, below are the questions from the letters we have sent over the last three weeks.
In our October 9, 2012, letter that we wrote with Senator Saxby Chambliss, we asked the following questions of Director of National Intelligence, James R. Clapper, Jr.; Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, David H. Petraeus; and Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism and Deputy National Security Advisor, John Brennan:
* Within 48 hours of the attack, was there credible information and reporting to suggest that the assault on our Consulate and other U.S. facilities in Benghazi should be characterized as a terrorist attack?
* At what time did intelligence community agencies or elements first assess that the events in Benghazi were a terrorist attack?
* What information did the intelligence community provide to senior policymakers that led some of them to draw the conclusion as late as five days after the attack in Benghazi that it was the result of a spontaneous demonstration, not a terrorist act?
* Was there no credible evidence at that late date that was compelling enough for the intelligence community and the senior policymakers to draw a conclusion with at least moderate confidence that the attack in Benghazi was a terrorist act?
On October 15, 2012, Senator Graham sent letters to Mr. Brennan, Director Clapper, Director Petraeus, as well as National Security Advisor Thomas Donilon. The letters highlighted the fact that on June 6, 2012, assailants placed an improvised explosive device (IED) on the north gate of the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi. The IED detonated and ripped a hole in the security perimeter that was described by one individual as "big enough for forty men to go through." This attack was preceded by an earlier IED attack against the Consulate in April 2012. Based on these facts, the letter included the following questions:
* Were you aware of these attacks?
* Did you inform the President of these attacks?
* If so, what action was taken to protect our Consulate?
* If you did not inform the President, why not?
On October 15, 2012, Senator Graham sent you a similar letter asking the following questions:
* Were you informed of these attacks on our Libyan Consulate?
* If not, why not?
* Did you consider these serious events?
* If you were informed, what action was taken to protect the Consulate?
On October 19, 2012, we sent a follow-up letter to the same three senior intelligence officials in your administration noting that ten days had elapsed since we sent the October 9 letter.
On October 24, 2012, we sent a letter to you asking the following questions:
* Why did your administration insist that a spontaneous demonstration was responsible for the attack on our Consulate, but as the State Department later divulged, no demonstration even occurred in Benghazi?
* Why were requests for greater security assistance by officers on the ground not fulfilled, especially in light of the fact that there had already been two attacks on our Consulate in Benghazi this year and an attempt to assassinate the British Ambassador-events about which you should have known?
* In light of the deteriorating security situation in Benghazi and the escalating series of attacks in the preceding months, why were there not rapid reaction forces or other military assets available in the region to deploy to Libya in the event of an emergency on September 11, 2012-a day that our intelligence agencies consistently cite far in advance as a moment of heightened security threat for the United States and our citizens and interests abroad?
On October 26, 2012, we sent a letter to Secretary of Defense, Leon Panetta; Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, David H. Petraeus; and Attorney General, Eric H. Holder requesting the immediate declassification of the surveillance video in and around the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi for the two days-September 11 and 12, 2012-that it and related U.S. facilities were under attack.
On October 27, 2012, Senators McCain and Portman sent a letter to Secretary Panetta asking the following questions:
* What military forces were available to provide support to U.S. personnel in Libya?
* What military forces were requested to provide support to U.S. personnel in Libya, by whom, and what forces were provided?
* What communication and coordination did you have with the President and other members of the National Security Council regarding possible Defense Department support in Libya?
Your failure to answer these important questions will only add to the growing perception among many of our constituents that your administration has undertaken a concerted effort to misrepresent the facts and stonewall Congress and the American people. We look forward to a prompt and thorough response to these questions. The American people deserve a full accounting of what happened in Benghazi where four brave Americans were murdered.

Obama won't respond, of course. His strategy, as always, is to stonewall, and his objective is to run out the clock by keeping a lid on the story until November 6.
Hurricane Sandy has had, I think, a mixed impact on the presidential race. It has, of course, given Obama an opportunity to look more or less presidential, but that was inevitable. More important, perhaps, is that it gives reporters and editors an excuse for ignoring Benghazi. At this point, it seems clear that the only way Benghazi will assume a prominent role in the presidential campaign is if Romney himself raises it, forcefully and repeatedly. Romney did not go after Obama on Benghazi in the last presidential debate, and there is no reason to think he intends to start now. That is probably a wise decision; Romney wants attention focused on the economy during the last week of the campaign, and while major news outlets would be forced to talk about Benghazi if he brought it up forcefully, the thrust of their coverage would be to criticize Romney for "politicizing" the issue. So for now, at least, information about Benghazi will continue to leak out slowly in a more or less underground fashion.
Steve Hayward, showing his characteristic good judgment, posted Lena Dunham's "First Time" ad for President Obama without comment. The ad spoke for itself. All that we, as males well outside the target audience, could do was present the evidence and shake our heads.
However, Emily Esfahani Smith at Ricochet falls well within the demographic group to which Dunham hopes to appeal. Moreover, she has praised Dunham's hit show, "Girls," for its critique of the standard feminist script about casual sex. She found that "with its painfully awkward and unerotic sex scenes, the Emmy-nominated show revealed just how grim and degrading sex in the era of post-feminism has become, especially for women." Specifically, "the show's message that casual sex leads to the objectification of women stood in direct contrast to the standard pop culture trope - found in shows like "Sex and the City," magazines like Cosmopolitan, and movies like "No Strings Attached" - that sex with no strings attached empowers girls."
Call me crazy, but when I think "first sexual experience," I don't think "big government" (even if both do have a tendency to promise more than they deliver). If Miss Dunham imagines her first vote was like good sex, then she has bigger problems than political naivete. . . .
To Miss Dunham 2.0, women really are just sexual objects, after all. They make important decisions, like voting for president, by consulting what goes on between their legs rather than by what goes on between their ears. As she advises in the ad, "You want to do it with a guy who cares whether you get health insurance and specifically whether you get birth control."
Translation: The kind of guy you should have sex with (or vote for) is someone whose primary concern is not with who you are, what you want, or what you think, but with you not getting pregnant with his kid. To me, this guy sounds like a jerk. To Miss Dunham, this guy sounds like Barack Obama. This must be a joke right? "The video may be light, but the message is serious," Miss Dunham tweeted last week. . . .
[The view that] that women are ruled by their sexual selves. . .is precisely the premise that Miss Dunham's ad, universally praised on the left, relies upon. It assumes that women are single-mindedly obsessed with having cheap sex (not to mention paranoid enough to think that the Mitt Romney-Paul Ryan ticket has a secret plan to outlaw it).
The ad's patronizing message is directed at young, unmarried women who consider themselves cosmopolitan, career-oriented feminists. These are intelligent women, women who should know better than to be manipulated by the Obama campaign's desperate attempt to buy their votes. The ad does not mention the economy, foreign relations, education, energy or other important policy issues. How blinkered and frivolous does the Obama campaign think women are?
I know nothing of Lena Dunham or her show. Perhaps the pro-Obama ad, not her television show, reflects her true attitude about sexual relations and women. Perhaps she is hopelessly confused. But it may be the case that Dunham has put her true attitude on core issues of sexual relations and women aside in order to best serve the larager cause of leftism.
This wouldn't be a first. Communist Party members did it for decades. American Jews do it today. Now, it may be the turn of American youth. No wonder there's an enthusiasm gap.
Mitt Romney leads President Obama by 5 points in Virginia, 49 to 44, in a poll conducted by Roanoke College between Oct.23-26. The sample consisted of 638 likely voters. The margin of error is 4 points.
Using a more selective screen for identifying likely voters, Roanoke College's poll found Romney ahead by a comomanding 54-41 margin. Thus, if these results are accurate, Obama will need a strong turnout just to be competitive in Virginia.
But this wouldn't be the 2012 presidential election without countervailing polling news. And, sure enough, Quinnipiac has released a poll of likely voters, from essentially the same time period, that finds Obama leading in Virginia by 49-47.
I discount the Quinnipiac results, however, because its sample consists of 35 percent Democrats and 28 percent Republicans. That's a better split for the Dems than they enjoyed in 2008. There is little reason to believe that the Democrats will have that sort of advantage this year.
The Qunnipiac poll finds that Romney leads among independent voters in Virginia by a staggering 57-36 margin. If Romney actually does enjoy an edge of that magnitude with Virginia independents (and Roanoke College gives him an even larger 26 point edge) it seems almost inconceivable that he will lose the Commonwealth.
UPDATE: Quinnipiac also finds Obama ahead in Florida (by 1 point) and in Ohio (by 5 points). In these Florida, however, the sample reflects a larger mix of Democrats than what we saw in 2008. And in Ohio, the mix is nearly the same as in that election. And in both states Romney leads among independents (by 5 points in Florida and by 6 in Ohio).

This edition of Uncommon Knowledge presents a discussion that is spirited, learned and entertaining. It is also an especially timely edition, reminding us of the implications of the election for the Supreme Court as well as the other weighty matters before us for choosing on November 6.
Last Sunday's clash between neighbors Everton and Liverpool produced a highly contentious Derby, even by Merseyside standards. The match was played with feverish intensity but, sadly, will be best remembered for an awful refereeing decision that disallowed a Liverpool goal and preserved a 2-2 draw.
All four goals were scored in the frantic first half. When Liverpool netted the first two, I (and doubtless many other Evertonians) feared a rout. Instead, Everton responded with goals from Leon Osman and Steven Naismith. But the main man behind the comeback was newly acquired Kevin Mirallas, whose driving runs Liverpool could halt only by fouling.
Unfortunately, The Shite succeeded in kicking Mirallas out of the match - he was unable to continue after halftime, and may miss several matches. Nonetheless, Everton outplayed Liverpool for most of the second half before fading badly towards the end.
Deep into stoppage time, we conceded a free kick in a dangerous position. I (and doubtless many other Evertonians) feared the worst as the great Steven Gerrard lined up the kick. And sure enough, his terrific ball into the box was won by a giant Liverpool center back and dispatched into net by Luis Suarez.
But the referee's assistant signaled a non-existent offsides and the goal was disallowed. Seconds later came the final whistle.
Justice is seldom served by terrible officiating decisions, and it wasn't here. However, Everton fans can be forgiven for finding poetic justice at two levels. First, two horrible calls cost us victory against Newcastle United earlier in the season. Negate the terrible calls in both games and Everton has 3 points (for a win against Newcastle) rather than 2 points for two draws. But we also have a loss at home in the Derby, so I won't complain about the "deal."
Second, Luis Suarez, scorer of the disallowed goal, is the biggest cheat in the Premier League for my money. In fact, he probably should no longer have been playing at the end of the match, given two instances in which he deliberately and dangerously stepped on the boot of Everton players (one of whom was Mirallas, and the stomp was instrumental in the injury that caused his departure). Suarez also could have received a yellow cared for his over-the-top celebration of a goal in front of Everton manager David Moyes, who has called out Suarez as the diving cheat he is. However, I don't believe in issing cards for goal celebrations.
After the match Steven Gerrard criticized Everton for playing like Stoke City. Stoke is famous for bypassing the midfield with long balls into the box. Actually, however, they are doing much less of that this year, thanks in part to the acquisition of former Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam.
In any event, Gerrard is entirely out to lunch with his criticism of Everton. The statistics show that it was really Everton who played the possession-passing game that manager Brendan "Being Liverpool" Rodgers is trying to promote with The Shite. Thus, Everton attempted 478 passes to Liverpool's 357, made over a hundred accurate passes more than the Reds (359 to 257), delivered twice as many crosses into the box, and forced Liverpool into more tackles. In the final (attacking) third of the field, Everton successfully completed 100 of 154 attempted passes, while Liverpool completed only 63 of their 103 attempted passes. And Everton's long ball count was 14 percent, compared to 17 percent for Liverpool.
So Everton, playing at home, outperformed Liverpool statistically, but Liverpool would have triumphed anyway but for an improperly disallowed goal.
Currenly, Everton stands in fifth position, 8 places and 6 points ahead of Liverpool. For me, though, the two teams look evenly matched. One never knows in soccer, but there's a good chance they will be close together in the standings (the Table) when the Derby is played at Liverpool in early May.

There's all kinds of spin out there regarding early voters, especially from Team Obama and their allies in the CorruptMedia, but I don't believe in tea leaves; I believe in numbers. Gallup provided numbers, and those numbers (with a huge 3,300 sample) show Romney winning early voters by a margin of 52-47%. And now we have hard numbers out of Florida showing Democrats well behind their early vote lead when compared to this time last year:

Congressional Report Highlights President Obama's Immigration Power Grab
The criticism came in the form of a report released by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor that chronicles the Administration's power-grab through what he refers to as an "Imperial Presidency."
As described in a Heritage Legal Memorandum, Part I focused on the involvement of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), which ran the operation from its Phoenix bureau. It contained a compelling narrative regarding this botched law enforcement operation, especially the lack of serious supervision of some terrible on-the-ground decisions that had deadly consequences, including the fatal shooting of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.
Part II concludes that several high-ranking Department of Justice (DOJ) officials failed to ask rudimentary questions or react to red flags that should have been evident to anyone who was paying attention: Operation Fast and Furious had come off the rails and needed to be shut down immediately.
As detailed in DOJ's inspector general's report and by Univision, approximately 2,000 high-powered weapons ended up in the hands of drug cartels who used them, predictably enough, to devastating effect to commit murder and mayhem.
On July 4, 2011, acting ATF director Ken Melson, a career prosecutor who was being muzzled by senior DOJ officials, took the extraordinary step of meeting in secret with congressional investigators. On that occasion, he told them:
My view is that the whole matter of the Department's response in this case was a disaster. That as a result... a lot of what they did was damage control after a while. Their position on things changed weekly and it was hard for us to catch up on it, but it was very clear that they were running the show.
The DOJ would have been, and still would be, better served by being completely forthcoming about what happened. The family of Brian Terry as well as the families of those who lost their lives in Mexico (not to mention the victims yet to come) at the hands of thugs using Fast and Furious weapons deserve nothing less.
As of this date, however, President Barack Obama continues to assert his broad claim of executive privilege over many of the documents that Congress has subpoenaed from DOJ. Indeed, the DOJ is asserting weak legal arguments in court in an attempt to keep those documents from seeing the light of day.
Recently, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit was the latest to issue a ruling on the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act. Over a strong dissent by one of the judges, it ruled that section 3 - defining "marriage" for the purpose of federal law as a "legal union between one man and one woman" - violates equal protection and thus is unconstitutional.

A Critical Look at Administrative Bloat in Public Schools By Lindsey Burke
The Friedman Foundation has published an excellent report detailing the administrative bloat plaguing our nation's public schools. The School Staffing Surge: Decades of Employment Growth in America's Public Schools shows dramatic increases in teaching and non-teaching staff over the past five decades despite modest increases in student enrollment.
As we detailed in a recent report on growth in non-teaching positions in public schools across the country, student enrollment has increased just 8 percent since 1970, while the number of teachers has increased 60 percent, and the number of non-teaching administrative and other staff has increased 138 percent.
The Friedman report, authored by Ben Scafidi, PhD, takes an even longer look, demonstrating that since 1950, public school enrollment has increased 96 percent, while the number of teachers has increased 252 percent and the number of non-teaching personnel (administrators and other staff) has increased an astonishing 702 percent. "Put differently," Scafidi notes, "the rise in non-teaching staff was more than seven times faster than the increase in students."
"For about a day last week in Minnesota, residents who wanted to take part in massively open online courses, or MOOCs, through free online course provider Coursera were told it was illegal. The statement, made by the state's Office of Higher Education, was quickly rescinded a day later, following a wave of backlash on blogs and media outlets around the Internet," reports Education Week.
Uncertainty Results in D.C. School Voucher Enrollment Downturn By Lindsey Burke
Policy has real-life consequences-a fact that has been especially true for schoolchildren in Washington, D.C. For low-income schoolchildren in the nation's capital, the Obama Administration's opposition to school choice is taking its toll.
The Administration's indifference-and at times outright antagonism-toward the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program has had real consequences. Uncertainty about whether new scholarships will be available, and how long existing participants will be able to continue learning at their private schools is likely to blame for a slight decrease in the number of voucher participants this year.
$24.3 Billion The growth in non-teaching staff at public schools has far outpaced student enrollment. If the growth of non-teaching staff was comparable to student growth, schools would save $24.3 billion annually.
Since 1950, student enrollment has increased by 96 percent, but non-teaching personnel has increased by over 700 percent. Heritage found similar levels of administrative bloat in a study released earlier this month How Escalating Education Spending is Killing Crucial Reform. We found that since 1970, the percentage of teachers as a portion of school staff has declined by 16.5 percent.
"As the demand for and quality of online education continues to increase, states will have to rethink the legal monopolies they've granted select universities. And these universities will have to rethink their business model... If both of these things happen, students will have access to better and more affordable college opportunities."

As Hurricane Sandy bore down on the East Coast, The New York Times took the opportunity to publish an editorial politicizing the storm that caused dozens of deaths.
In a shameless attempt to politicize Hurricane Sandy, The New York Times rushed out an editorial, "A Big Storm Requires Big Government," attacking conservatives for advocating a rebalancing of disaster response responsibilities.
The Times says the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) "was put back in working order by President Obama, but ideology still blinds Republicans to its value. Many don't like the idea of free aid for poor people, or they think people should pay for their bad decisions, which this week includes living on the East Coast."
Mayer says this line of attack just isn't true. Conservatives believe that FEMA has a role in responding to national catastrophes such as Hurricane Katrina, 9/11, and Hurricane Sandy. In the last twenty years, though, local natural disasters have been nationalized, spreading FEMA's resources too thin to be fully prepared for such catastrophes.
According to the Government Accountability Office, FEMA is dangerously close to over-extending its resources. Considering that there are over one hundred state of emergency declarations by states every year, it's no surprise FEMA just cannot keep up with the funding and staff needed to respond effectively to catastrophes on a national scale.
A reporter asked White House Press Secretary Jay Carney if the President has the power to move election day because of Hurricane Sandy's destruction. Immediately after the question was asked, the media sprang into action citing precedents for postponing elections.
Looking at U.S. history, it is clear that there is no precedent for postponing a national presidential election, even in the midst of foreign or domestic wars. Moreover, the President lacks the constitutional authority to alter or postpone a national election; the election timetable is specified by statute of Congress as authorized by the Constitution.
In 225 years, the United States has never postponed a presidential election. Elections were still carried out as scheduled during the War of 1812 and the Civil War. And as catastrophic as Hurricane Sandy was in the Northeast, it does not compare to war. Smith explains that we should use this "an opportunity to prove to the world that the American people's government can sustain a national election even in the aftermath of a terrible hurricane. As such, 2012 is yet another milestone of continuity for America's experiment in constitutional self-government."
Legally, who has the power to adjust elections? Carney told the reporters that he didn't know. In fact, if a national election were rescheduled, it would have to be the result of congressional legislation. The President has no such powers.
The Heritage Foundation has been arguing for years that local communities and individuals, not the federal government, should take the lead in disaster response. Hurricane Sandy should serve as a reminder of the need for these reforms.

Politicizing Sandy
Remember Rahm Emanuel's famous quote early in the Obama administration, "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste"? "Hurricane" Obama and his allies are hoping that Hurricane Sandy will blow away a surging Romney campaign too.
The New York Times this week ran an editorial that unapologetically used the destruction caused by Sandy to make the case for big government. The liberal media and Democrat operatives are playing politics by suggesting that Mitt Romney wants to gut FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency. That is a lie.
Governor Romney has argued that governors and mayors, not Washington bureaucrats, best know the needs of their states and communities. The only decision a president makes is whether a state should be declared a disaster area. Most presidents are very liberal in the use of that designation.
In recent days, the White House political machine has worked overtime to show Obama was in charge. The White House said that President Obama was repeatedly awakened throughout the night so he could be briefed on Hurricane Sandy. Why? There were no decisions for him to make. But the president's handlers wanted to paint the picture of "Obama in charge" just days before the election. The administration even released a photo of President Obama presiding over a disaster relief briefing from the White House Situation Room. (Where's the photo for Benghazi?)
And when Obama made his first statements about the disaster, he used the phrase "lean forward." Where have I heard that before? It's Obama's campaign slogan, which he borrowed from MSNBC!
Obama also said that he had instructed federal agencies to "to cut through red tape, cut through bureaucracy. There is no excuse for inaction at this point." That he felt it necessary to make such a statement only proves Governor Romney's point about sending the money and authority back to the states.
But here was the most jarring of Obama's remarks yesterday at the Red Cross:
"This is a tough time for a lot of people -- millions of folks all across the Eastern Seaboard. But America is tougher, and we're tougher because we pull together. We leave nobody behind. We make sure that we respond as a nation and remind ourselves that whenever an American is in need, all of us stand together to make sure that we're providing the help that's necessary."
In the Benghazi crisis, only Obama, as the commander-in-chief, could have authorized the military force necessary to save and rescue our ambassador and the other personnel who were under attack for hours. He did not. In spite of Obama's boasts, he decided to leave behind Christopher Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods to the jihadists who murdered them.
Benghazi-gate Continues
On "Face The Nation" Sunday, Senator John McCain unleashed a broadside against the Obama White House over its handling of the Benghazi attacks. He referred to Obama's response to the attack as "the worst cover-up or incompetence that I have ever observed in my life."
Last night on Fox News, former Speaker Newt Gingrich suggested that the liberal media may be protecting Obama. Here's what he said:
"There is a rumor -- I want to be clear, it's a rumor -- that at least two networks have emails from the National Security Adviser's office telling a counterterrorism group to stand down. But they were [in] a group in real-time trying to mobilize Marines and C-130s and the fighter aircraft, and they were told explicitly by the White House stand down and do nothing. 'This is not a terrorist action.' If that is true, and I've been told this by a fairly reliable U.S. senator, if that is true and comes out, I think it raises enormous questions about the president's role, and Tom Donilon, the National Security Adviser's role, the Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta..."
Gingrich's rumor would confirm a Fox report from last week that officials at a CIA annex in Benghazi had requested military support multiple times during the attack on the consulate. Each time their requests were denied. Stay tuned.

I devoted my recent Human Events column to the antics of our profane president and his supporters. I chose the topic too early. Michael Moore and the radicals at MoveOn.org have hit a new low.
The left is just wallowing in the coarseness of our culture. It is jarring enough when young children utter expletives, but now some liberals think we really want to hear it coming from our grandmothers or great grandmothers. DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz described the Medicare reforms proposed by GOP Vice-Presidential nominee and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) as "literally a death trap for seniors." White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters that Ryan's reforms would "change Medicare as we know it."
But it was Obamacare that already changed Medicare as we know it, transforming it literally into a death trap for seniors. Obamacare cut Medicare by $716 billion over the next 10 years alone, mostly by slashing Medicare payments to doctors and hospitals. And that is just a down-payment on what is to come.
