The people in need of the most help today after the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy, are those living in a number of states along the East Coast that have lost power. And yet, at least according to Politico, while these people had the electricity necessary to get the information needed, neither the White House nor FEMA gave anyone instructions on where to turn for help or where to go for information in the event of a power outage:
When President Barack Obama urged Americans under siege from Hurricane Sandy to stay inside and keep watch on ready.gov for the latest, he left out something pretty important - where to turn if the electricity goes out.

We are sorry to hear that some of you are without electricity or worse due to Hurricane Sandy. We pray that you will soon find relief.
As a result of the storm, the deadline to hand in PA Absentee Ballot Applications has been extended from October 30 to 5 PM October 31 or 5 PM November 1, depending on which county you reside. (If you plan to vote by absentee ballot, please check with your County Board of Elections.)
In Delaware, Absentee Ballots Affidavits must be received by 12 noon on Friday, November 2 by the County Board of Elections.
In New Jersey, Absentee Ballot Applications must be delivered by hand to the County Board of elections through Monday, November 5, 3 PM. (The deadline for mailing expired on October 30. We are not aware of any extension.)

- "Atlas Shrugged Part 2" Recruiters Needed: We printed up 4X6 cards inviting people to come to our headquarters to make calls and get involved in the Get Out The Vote (GOTV) effort. Click here for more information below.
- Door Knocking: We can create walk lists for your neighborhood targeting persuadable voters. We'll also provide the campaign literature. You go out and change the minds, change the polls - MAKE THE DIFFERENCE. Click here if you want maps for your neighborhood.
- Parking Lot Literature Drop: Join the force of people placing campaign literature on car windshields in train station parking lots and other locations. Click here to send an email if you want to help with this effort.
- Sign Blitzing: We have 1500 new signs anti-Casey signs (3 versions, 500 each, samples in the photo above). We will also be getting 10,000 Tom Smith signs next week. Between now and then, please come in and grab some of the new ones and plant them around the area. Next weekend we are hoping to have the "Liberty Van" back in action with a crew to pump up conservatives, annoy the liberals to their core and blitz the county with signs. The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq

Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet, The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.
The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.
Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.
Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.
The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.
The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization
 Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.
The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. It also discusses how the agents of radicalization in the Nashville Muslim community have been aided by collaborators in the establishment media, politics and the so-called "interfaith" community.

Individual, Community, and State: How to Think About Religious Freedom

THERE IS A GROWING awareness among Americans that religious freedom in our country has come under sustained pressures. In the public square where freedom of religion meets public policy, it becomes clearer all the time that there is a high price to be paid for being true to one's conscience. This is no tale of Chicken Little-although a chain of chicken sandwich restaurants based in Atlanta is part of the story. Let me give you a few examples.
In our universities, those citadels of toleration, we find that toleration can be sharply limited. At the Hastings College of Law in San Francisco, the student chapter of the Christian Legal Society was denied any status on the campus because it would not abandon its requirement that members commit themselves to traditional Christian norms regarding sexual morality. The U.S. Supreme Court, in a 5-4 ruling in 2010, held that the student group's rights were not violated by a "take all comers" policy. Following this lead, Vanderbilt University has rewritten its student organizations policy and effectively chased every traditionally Christian student group off campus, denying them regular access to campus facilities. And at the University of Illinois, an adjunct professor of religion, hired to teach a course on Catholicism, was let go because a student complained about his patient explanation of the Catholic Church's natural law teachings on human sexuality. (He was later restored to his teaching duties, but at the expense of the Newman Center, not on the state payroll.)

The following is adapted from a speech delivered on September 20, 2012, in Washington, D.C., at Hillsdale College's third annual Constitution Day Dinner.
ONCE UPON A TIME, hardly anyone dissented from the idea that, for better or worse, the United States of America was different from all other nations. This is not surprising, since the attributes that made it different were vividly evident from the day of its birth. Let me say a few words about three of them in particular. First of all, unlike all other nations past or present, this one accepted as a self-evident truth that all men are created equal. What this meant was that its Founders aimed to create a society in which, for the first time in the history of the world, the individual's fate would be determined not by who his father was, but by his own freely chosen pursuit of his own ambitions. In other words, America was to be something new under the sun: a society in which hereditary status and class distinctions would be erased, leaving individuals free to act and to be judged on their merits alone. There remained, of course, the two atavistic contradictions of slavery and the position of women; but so intolerable did these contradictions ultimately prove that they had to be resolved-even if, as in the case of the former, it took the bloodiest war the nation has ever fought. Secondly, in all other countries membership or citizenship was a matter of birth, of blood, of lineage, of rootedness in the soil. Thus, foreigners who were admitted for one reason or another could never become full-fledged members of the society. But America was the incarnation of an idea, and therefore no such factors came into play. To become a full-fledged American, it was only necessary to pledge allegiance to the new Republic and to the principles for which it stood. Thirdly, in all other nations, the rights, if any, enjoyed by their citizens were conferred by human agencies: kings and princes and occasionally parliaments. As such, these rights amounted to privileges that could be revoked at will by the same human agencies. In America, by contrast, the citizen's rights were declared from the beginning to have come from God and to be "inalienable"-that is, immune to legitimate revocation.

Rasmussen: Casey up by 1

A new poll released by Rasmussen shows Senator Bob Casey's lead has dwindled down to one percentage point.
The poll shows Casey leading GOP hopeful Tom Smith 46-45, down three points from the last Rasmussen poll conducted by the conservative leaning pollster. Nine percent are still undecided.
This latest poll does not reflect the recent trend of a Casey resurgence. Recent polls such as Morning Call/Muhlenberg and Angus Reid have shown that Casey has been able to separate himself from a surging Tom Smith.
Nevertheless, the race is still as competitive as recently advertised.
The poll was conducted on Oct 24 with 500 respondents. The margin of error is +/- 4.5 percent.

1. If You Want to Repeal Obamacare, Support Akin & Mourdock
What has been overshadowed by pro-life remarks made by Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock is that the Republicans must take back the United States Senate to have a chance of repealing Obamacare.
Even if Mitt Romney wins, it will be for naught if Harry Reid still controls the Senate. That is the reality. That is why Republicans must rally to two gentlemen who are committed pro-lifers, but who said things in defense of children that others have decided to beat them up about.
Honestly, you can be a pro-lifer and be offended by what they said. But at least they spoke up and tried to defend a position many in the GOP run away from. We should, however, be ashamed of a pro-life community that does not have these gentlemen's backs now. We need them in the Senate to repeal Obamacare. We need them in the Senate to take a Senate majority.
What is so striking to me, frankly, is how so many establishment Republican types for so long told those of us who didn't much care for Mitt Romney to get in line because he is the nominee. Well, we did. And we're proud to support him. So suck it the hell up and get in line for Todd Akin (I'm looking at your NRSC) and Richard Mourdock, the Republican nominees for the U.S. Senate in Missouri and Indiana.
We need the Senate. We need Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock to get the Senate. Oh, and you want to know the punchline? They really can win. Mourdock probably will. Akin is close.

Bloomberg estimates the damage to exceed $20 billion and the stock market is closed for the second day in row, this being the first time weather has forced its closure since 1888. Texas's Fight against Planned Parenthood With the election and Hurricane Sandy sucking up most of the news oxygen, you may have missed the epic showdown in Texas going on between Rick Perry's administration and Planned Parenthood. The Texas legislature passed a law last session (2011) prohibiting any state tax dollars from going to abortion providers or their affiliates. In short - Texans shouldn't have to fund the killing of babies against their will. You would think that even the abortionists and feminists out there would appreciate that this is fair enough, but of course not. The feds have their hands in it too. Federal taxpayers fund much of the womens' health program - and thus, traditionally Planned Parenthood - through a Medicaid waiver from Washington. So, Texas requested to maintain its program while excluding Planned Parenthood. How do you think that request went? The story of how the Obama Administration failed to secure a US consulate and then failed to send in support while it was under attack may turn out to be the biggest scandal of this administration. But that will only happen if Benghazigate is the subject of a thorough and rigorous investigation. And that means basing stories on facts or on reliable reports, rather than on speculation and internet rumors that no one would take seriously in any other context. I have received dozens of emails in the last few days claiming that General Ham was fired for trying to go ahead with a rescue operation. The story appeared in the Washington Times. The source for the Times' story was an anonymous comment on Tiger Droppings, a forum for LSU football fans, from someone in Louisiana working in "Self Employed/Restaurants/Catering" who claimed that the story came "from someone inside the military". Now for all I know this story is true, but an anonymous comment on a football fan forum is not enough to run with a major story. It's certainly not enough to start treating it as an established fact. That comment has gone beyond the Washington Times and is being sourced in various outlets all of whom are reporting a story based on an anonymous comment on an internet forum. On October 20th, Clare Lopez wrote a column raising various questions about Benghazi and suggesting that Ambassador Stevens may have been involved in a weapons smuggling operation moving Libyan weapons into Syria. Lopez's column raised some questions, a lot of them, but provided no proof and no truly credible connection between Stevens and the transfer of Libyan weapons to Syrian Jihadists. Nor did that theory come with a motive for why the consulate was attacked. Nevertheless large numbers of people have now taken it as a fact that Stevens was involved in running Libyan guns to Syria without any actual evidence to verify that as a fact. Many repeat Lopez's suggestion that the warehouses behind the consulate stored guns meant for Syria as a statement of fact. To many people, it seems "right" and it may be true, it may not be true. The difference between the two is actual evidence.

Censorship on the horizon
Alert the authorities!! A CAIR-Florida "Action Alert" states that it "has received a report that an anti-Islam book has been found in a Broward County Public School Library." (See below). CAIR-Florida goes on to say that it has "submitted a formal complaint to the Broward County Public School System..."

Here's a newsflash to CAIR-Florida: Public school libraries contain books that are "anti" the views and beliefs of many people, not just Muslims. This is what happens in a free society where free speech is honored-unlike what happens in, say, Saudi Arabia.

If CAIR-Florida truly believed in "civil rights," it would accept the fact that our first amendment protects speech that CAIR-Florida doesn't like.
Speaking of Saudi Arabia, France 24 news recently reported that Saudi King Abdullah has demanded the UN pass a resolution condemning insults to religion. (See article excerpt below).
Of course, given that you can't publicly carry a Bible in Saudi Arabia, and that Saudi clerics regularly insult Israel and Jews, it's safe to assume that King Abdullah's intentions are that speech that is deemed offensive to Islam must be silenced.
Pressure to silence speech that is deemed "anti-Islamic" is rising in America and around the world. Europeans have already lost the right to publicly criticize Islam. Canadians are under the same pressure.
Wake up, America!

ACTION ALERT: Anti-Islam Book Found in Broward County Public School Library
Asalamu Allaikum, CAIR has received a report that an anti-Islam book has been found in a Broward County Public School Library. The title of this book is "Islam and Terrorism" authored by Mark A. Gabriel a well know anti-Islam pundit that self proclaims scholarly knowledge of the Quran. This book contains dozens of xenophobic statements and inaccurate information regarding the Quran and teachings of the Prophet Mohammed. We have submitted a formal complaint to the Broward County Public School System and requested information through the Freedom of Information Act.

A New York University class on transnational terrorism is requiring students to "hypothetically plan a terrorist attack" - and shocked cops say the outrageous lesson plan is an insult to the officers killed on Sept. 11. The controversial course, taught by former Navy criminal investigator Marie-Helen Maras, asks the pupils to "step into [a terrorist's] shoes" and write a 10- to 15-page paper on their battle plan. "Some of the most notorious terrorists, including Anwar al-Awlaki, got their start on American campuses. It looks like after the CIA killed al-Awlaki, NYU is helping to produce successors," said an outraged law-enforcement expert on terrorism.

An Iranian-American used car salesman pleaded guilty this month to conspiring with Iranian agents to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States. Mansour Arbabsiar's guilty plea would appear to be the end of this story, but in truth it raises more questions than it answers.
The facts were never really in dispute. U.S. officials learned of the plot early on and built an airtight case. The assassin Arbabsiar tried to hire was in fact a DEA informant. Once arrested, Arbabsiar confessed. At the direction of law enforcement, he then called his cousin and Quds Force handler, Gholam Shakuri. With agents listening, Shakuri insisted Arbabsiar go ahead with the plot. "Just do it quickly. It's late."
But why was the Quds Force, which had earned a reputation for operational prowess even among its enemies, so eager to move forward with an obviously flawed operation? Arbabsiar appears to have been a weak character who "wants to be important," as a government-retained psychiatrist determined. He was drawn into the plot by his cousin, a general in the Quds Force, the arm of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps responsible for external operations. So the real question is: What was the Quds Force thinking?
According to Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, the plot"shows that some Iranian officials -- probably including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei -- have changed their calculus and are now more willing to conduct an attack in the United States in response to real or perceived U.S. actions that threaten the regime."
This new calculus, intelligence officials believe, dates back to January 2010, when the Quds Force decided that it and Hezbollah, its primary terrorist proxy, would embark on a new campaign of violence targeting not only Israel but U.S. and other Western targets as well.
In the wake of last July's attackon Israeli tourists in the Bulgarian city of Burgas, a barrage of journalists called asking me to explain the logic of the attack. I was finishing a book on Hezbollah -- Hezbollah: The Global Footprint of Lebanon's Party of God, due out next year -- but still could not easily place the attack within Hezbollah's established modus operandi. The more I thought about it, the more perplexed I became. So, much to my editor's dismay, I stepped away from my keyboard long enough to meet with diplomats and intelligence and military officials from several countries to try and make sense of the new trend of Shia extremist attacks tied to Iran and its proxies. Here is what I have come to understand.
To understand the decision Iran made in January 2010 to engage in a new campaign of violence, one must hark back to the February 2008 assassination of Hezbollah master terrorist Imad Mughniyeh, who was allegedly responsible for the 1984 U.S. Marine barracks bombing in Beirut, the 1985 hijacking of TWA Flight 847, and numerous other attacks. Following Mughniyeh's death in Damascus, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah called for an "open war" on Israel. "The blood of Imad Mughniyeh will make them [Israel] withdraw from existence," Nasrallah vowed.

FRC Shooter Receives First-Ever Domestic Terrorism Indictment in DC

Floyd Corkins, the volunteer at a gay-rights organization who attempted to commit mass murder at the Christian conservative Family Research Council (FRC) because of FRC's stance on social and religious issues, has been indicted on charges of domestic terrorism. It is the first such indictment ever handed down by a grand jury in the nation's capital.
On Aug. 15, Corkins entered FRC's building in Washington, D.C. with a hidden handgun, fifty rounds of ammunition, and fifteen Chick-fil-A sandwiches. When confronted by building manager Leo Johnson, Corkins revealed his gun and started shooting, hitting Johnson. Though seriously wounded, Johnson managed to wrest the gun away from Corkins and held him at gunpoint until police arrived, thwarting an attempted mass shooting. Before police arrived, Corkins pleaded for mercy, explaining that he launched the attack because of FRC's beliefs.

Rasmussen has Romney up in Ohio and he's likely to stay there

Nearly one third of Ohio voters have already cast their ballots and among these early voters, Obama has a lead of 62%-36%. But according to Rasmussen internals, the good news is that "... Romney has a large lead among those who still plan to vote." (1)
And here are some possible reasons why.

The Virginia Democrats, already reeling from the revelation that Patrick Moran, the son of Congressman Jim Moran and nephew of Virginia State Democrat Chairman Brian Moran, has taken yet another hammer- blow to its sagging image.
This time Albemarle County Supervisor Christopher Dumler, has been charged with forcibly sodomizing a woman he reportedly knows. The attack took place on October 4. On October 18, 2012 the 27 year old lawyer and Eagle Scout who is also a JAG captain in the Army Reserve was arrested. The rising star in the Virginia Democrat Party has been slapped with a "forcible sodomy" charge that could send him to prison for up to 40 years. The wording of the arrest warrant included this damning language, "[Dumler] "performed anal intercourse against the victim's will by force, threat or intimidation."

Romney Launches Final Week Blitz

The Romney and Obama campaigns followed opposite strategies this year. Obama, knowing that he couldn't defend his record, launched a massive pre-emptive strike against Romney over the summer. The Obama campaign spent more money smearing Romney than has ever been devoted to negative advertising in the history of politics. The plan was to destroy Romney by demonizing him before he had an opportunity to introduce himself to voters. The Romney campaign followed a very different approach. Convinced that historically, money spent during the summer is largely wasted, Romney decided to hoard most of his cash until October, which is when most undecided voters make up their minds. While Obama has raised and spent more money than Romney over the course of the campaign, it is Romney who is dominating the airwaves in the final weeks.
The Romney campaign writes here about its effort to expand the playing field, specifically with reference to Pennsylvania:
Not only has Minnesota has been moved to "Lean Dem" and the Obama Campaign is up in that state with a significant television buy, but the Chicago gurus have heeded Governor Rendell's plea and are buying television in Pennsylvania and sending the Vice-President in to help prop up their flagging campaign.
With one week to go, and 96% of the vote on the table on Election Day in Pennsylvania, this expansion of the electoral map demonstrates that Governor Romney's momentum has jumped containment from the usual target states and has spread to deeper blue states that Chicago never anticipated defending. ...
As a campaign, we will put more resources into the target states in the final week, than previous GOP campaigns have been able to do in the final 10 weeks. The Romney campaign has the resources to expand the map in ways that weren't possible in past cycles (without reducing any effort in any other target state).
Romney is running this ad in Pennsylvania, taking off on Obama's pledge to destroy the coal industry:
Not only has Romney saved much of his money for a final blitz, outside groups are blasting away at Obama and the Democrats, too. Being outspent is a new experience for the Democrats, and the Obama campaign is squealing. I got this email from the DCCC a little while ago:

I think the Democrats' summer onslaught did hurt Romney, but right now his strategy is looking pretty good. My biggest concern about the presidential race, at the moment, is the development that no one could have predicted: Hurricane Sandy. The storm may take attention away from Romney's campaign and Obama's economy at precisely the wrong moment, thereby giving Obama renewed hope.

Gallup finds Romney leading by 6 points among those who have already voted

According to a Gallup survey, Mitt Romney leads President Obama by 6 points (52-46) among those who have already voted. Gallup found that 15 percent of registered voters have cast their ballots.
At one level, Romney's 6 point margin among those who have already voted isn't surprising. According to Gallup, he has almost the same margin (51-46) among likely voters as a whole.
On the other hand, at the corresponding stage in 2008, Gallup found that Obama led John McCain in early voting by 15 points (55-40). Since Obama's final margin over McCain was much smaller, it may be that Romney's 6 point margin among those who have already voted this year understates his edge over the president.
I suspect, however, that McCain's underperformance with early voters reflected a lack of enthusiasm for the candidate, and high enthusiasm for Obama. Romney doesn't suffer from that problem. Many of his supporters can't wait to vote against Obama. Meanwhile, it's unlikely that Obama supporters are quite as enthusiastic about him as they were four years ago.
If I'm right, then we shouldn't expect Romney's margin to expand as more votes are cast. On the other hand, it doesn't need to. A 6 point margin would be enough.

Israeli Jews favor Romney by a wide margin

From all indications, American Jews continue to favor President Obama over Mitt Romney by a substantial margin, albeit not as large as in 2008. We remain the most clueless portion of the electorate.
But in Israel things are different. A new poll from Tel Aviv University/Israel Democracy Institute shows that Israeli Jews favor Romney by 57-22.
Dennis Ross, who, remains the most clueless among the clueless, attributes the sentiment of Israeli Jews to "disinformation" and "a highly polarized environment in America." I attribtute it to (1) the demands Obama made on Israel (and the stridency with which he made them) in furtherance of a "peace process" that most Israeli Jews understand to be a non-starter and (2) the fact that Israel's security situation deteriorated in the past four years due to Iran's strides towards developing nuclear weapons while Obama wasted time trying to improve U.S. relations with the government of Iran.
Obama is not without a block of support in Israel, though. Israeli Arabs favor him over Romney by 45-15.

One Week To Go
With just one week left until Election Day, this critical election remains a toss-up. According to the RealClearPolitics.com average of polls, Mitt Romney has a slight advantage -- 48% to 47.1% over Barack Obama.
Here's some more encouraging news: A new Gallup survey suggests Gov. Mitt Romney has a fairly substantial lead among early voters. You wouldn't know it from Gallup's headline, "In U.S., 15% of Registered Voters Have Already Cast Ballots." But toward the end of the report is this crucial fact: "Romney currently leads Obama 52% to 45% among voters who say they have already cast their ballots."
Now here is an important caveat. We don't know where all those early votes are concentrated. As I noted last week, the presidential race is really several mini-contests to see which candidate can get 270 votes in the Electoral College. Key people in Ohio are telling us that the Obama machine is turning out its vote in that critical swing state. Without Ohio, Romney's path to 270 and the White House is more complicated, but by no means impossible.
Here's why: The number of competitive states appears to be expanding. The Obama campaign has dispatched Bill Clinton to Minnesota, which last voted for a Republican presidential candidate in 1972. If Minnesota is really in play, then Obama is really in trouble!
Newspapers For Romney
Here's another encouraging trend: Key newspapers that backed Obama in 2008 are switching to Mitt Romney in 2012. Five newspapers in Florida have flipped. But perhaps the most important is Iowa's Des Moines Register. The biggest newspaper in Iowa hasn't endorsed a Republican in 40 years!

Did you see Lena Dunham's commercial about her first time voting? "It was this line in the sand" she coos "before, I was a girl; now I was a woman. I went to the polling station, I pulled back the curtain, I voted for Barack Obama."
The creator and star of the HBO show "Girls" pleads with American women-or perhaps, girls- to make sure that their first time is with a great guy who cares about birth control and health care.
Never has voting been so lascivious.
Demeaning as it was, the Dunham ad shouldn't surprise us. It's just the latest pitch in the left's campaign of condescension.
Let's review:
First, Americans met Julia, the faceless cartoon everywoman starring in an online ad. She's the modern American girl whose success in life can be chalked up to the helping hand of government. She gets a federally subsidized education and college loans, free birth control, free prenatal care (when she "decides to have a child"), a federal small business loan and retirement security because of the ever-present and ever-President Obama.
Her success apparently has nothing to do with her own initiative, talent, or hard work. In this world, Julia's good life wasn't built by her, or her parents, or her community, but by the government.
President Obama made that clear in an off-the-prompter remark in Roanoke, VA. "Look, if you've been successful, you didn't get there on your own," the President said. "If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business-you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen."
How arrogant of the American people to think that their innovation, hard work, and dedication accounted for their success. In reality, government enables entrepreneurs to thrive.
Government not only drives the economy, it's also our most important association. "Government is the only thing that we all belong to," explained the welcome video from the City of Charlotte. "We have different churches, different clubs, but we're together as a part of our city, or our county, or our state, and our nation."
In this view, from our families and churches to the Rotary Club and the Boy Scouts, our membership in private associations separates us. Only government unites us-and not just any government: We are residents of different states, which also proves divisive. Forget civil society and state affiliations. It's the national government that "we all belong to."
Now, we have Lena Dunham's musings on her first time voting. New York Times columnist Ross Douthat labeled Dunham's ramblings "a weirdly paternalistic form of social liberalism, in which women are forever single girls and the president is their father, lover, fiancé and paladin all rolled into one." And it wasn't the first time for such a pitch. An ad for Vladmir Putin told a "cutie" that her first time (voting!) should be for love and for him.
From the Life of Julia to Lena Dunham's first time, the left has patronized us long enough.We don't need government to supply handouts, fellowship, direction, and meaning in life. Americans are still independent men and women, capable of governing ourselves.

DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano announced this week that 200,000 illegal aliens have applied for the Administration's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that grants a temporary amnesty and the possibility of a work permit to illegal aliens who claim they were brought to the U.S. at a young age. She also said that more than 3,000 illegal aliens are filing new applications each day.
Unfortunately, that's about all we know about DACA!
Despite numerous attempts by both House and Senate leaders to learn more about how DACA decisions are made and exactly how many individuals are at each stage of the process, DHS officials have been less than eager to release the information.
That's why we've created a new website -- DACAFacts.com -- that tracks the number of applications submitted and processed and will post answers to specific questions posed by Congress -- that is if we get any answers. The goal of the website is to keep the public informed about what we know and don't know about DACA hopefully pressuring DHS to release more details.

While the unemployment rate did tick down last month, the U-6 unemployment rate that includes Americans who have recently given up their job search or have settled for part-time employment remains near 15% or 23 million Americans. It's estimated that 1.8 million illegal aliens could receive a work permit to compete with those unemployed Americans through DACA.

Report: Illegal Immigration back on the rise
A new report from the Tomas Rivera Policy Institute at the University of Southern California finds that illegal migration from Mexico to the United States is back on the rise after a decline during the economic recession that started in 2008. The Institute based its conclusion on six indicators including flows across the southwest border, repatriations, demography, remittances, employment levels of illegal aliens, and enforcement actions.

DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz described the Medicare reforms proposed by GOP Vice-Presidential nominee and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) as "literally a death trap for seniors." White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters that Ryan's reforms would "change Medicare as we know it."
But it was Obamacare that already changed Medicare as we know it, transforming it literally into a death trap for seniors. Obamacare cut Medicare by $716 billion over the next 10 years alone, mostly by slashing Medicare payments to doctors and hospitals. And that is just a down-payment on what is to come.
