The new Middle East coverup: Biden caught in Syria debate falsehood

First there was the Libya coverup. Now, we have the Syria coverup.

In last week's vice presidential debate, Joe Biden asserted that the United States was working to isolate al-Qaeda in Syria by ensuring that aid was directed to moderate elements of the Syrian opposition. "We are working hand and glove with the Turks, with the Jordanians, with the Saudis, and with all the people in the region attempting to identify the people who deserve the help so that when Assad goes - and he will go - there will be a legitimate government that follows on, not an al-Qaeda-sponsored government that follows on," Biden declared.

Paul Ryan immediately challenged Biden's claim, saying that the administration's inaction has allowed al-Qaeda to get a foothold in Syria. "The longer this has gone on, the more people, groups like al-Qaeda are going in," Ryan said, adding, "We could have more easily identified the Free Syrian Army, the freedom fighters, working with our allies, the Turks, the Qataris, the Saudis, had we had a better plan in place."

Biden denied it, declaring: "We are in the process now - and have been for months - in making sure that help, humanitarian aid, as well as other aid and training is getting to those forces that we believe, the Turks believe, the Jordanians believe, the Saudis believe are the free forces inside of Syria. That is underway."

Well, according to a report in this morning's New York Times, Biden's statement was not true.

"Most of the arms shipped at the behest of Saudi Arabia and Qatar to supply Syrian rebel groups fighting the government of Bashar al-Assad are going to hard-line Islamic jihadists, and not the more secular opposition groups that the West wants to bolster, according to American officials and Middle Eastern diplomats," the Times reports.

The paper quotes one U.S. official as saying, "The opposition groups that are receiving the most of the lethal aid are exactly the ones we don't want to have it," adding that "officials, voicing frustration, say there is no central clearinghouse for the shipments, and no effective way of vetting the groups that ultimately receive them."

In other words, what Biden said was false. Worse yet, Biden knew his statement was untrue when he said it. According to the Times, "President Obama and other senior officials are aware [of this conclusion] from classified assessments of the Syrian conflict that has now claimed more than 25,000 lives," adding the intelligence assessments "casts into doubt whether the White House's strategy of minimal and indirect intervention in the Syrian conflict is accomplishing its intended purpose of helping a democratic-minded opposition topple an oppressive government, or is instead sowing the seeds of future insurgencies hostile to the United States."

* You know you're an Obama voter if you think lack of adequate regulation is responsible for the home-mortgage meltdown of 2008, rather than a Democratic Congress that (in the name of fairness) made banks to give sub-prime mortgages to unqualified lenders.

* You know you're an Obama voter if you think the Muslim Brotherhood is a fraternal order. Their initiation rite is killer.

* You know you're an Obama voter if you believe Joe Biden's claim that the intelligence community initially told the administration that our Benghazi consulate was attacked by a spontaneous mob - a spontaneous mob of al-Qaeda fighters armed with AK-47s, rocket-propelled grenades, mortars and gun trucks.

* You know you're an Obama voter if you think the president has done a consummate job of keeping Iran from getting nuclear weapons - by enacting more sanctions (which have never worked before), working with our "allies" China and Russia and refusing to draw a red line which would elicit military action against Tehran-- while the mullahs spent the last four years developing fissile material.

In the baseball playoffs, the tie goes to the runner. In debates, ties are decided by the moderator and that's what happened during the Tuesday night presidential debate at Hofstra University in New York. CNN's Candy Crowley made her presence felt as a moderator in a major way on two points, but none larger than the issue of Libya.
 
The terrorist attack that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and four others in Benghazi has become a sore point for Obama, but Crowley made sure she called Romney out before Obama could tag him.
 
When Romney said Obama had not called the attack an act of terror for 14 days, Crowley interrupted and said: "It -- it -- it -- he did in fact, sir. So let me -- let me call it an act of terror."
 
Naturally, Obama asked her to restate her point and she did. "Can you say that a little louder, Candy?"

One of the tensest moments in an already tense debate Tuesday night came as President Obama and Mitt Romney clashed over the Obama administration's changing explanation for the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that left Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans dead.
 
In particular, Romney questioned whether Obama had called the attack an "act of terror" rather than "spontaneous" violence that grew out of a protest against an anti-Islam video. The moderator, CNN's Candy Crowley, intervened, saying Romney was half right.

The movie Atlas Shrugged, presents Ayn Rand's dramatic allegory of Adam Smith's observation above. It is powerful, and worth seeing.

Rand's allegory is true to the muck-raking traditions of her time, and to Adam Smith's observation that wealth-creators are not necessarily noble characters.

In Adam Smith's view, those who create the wealth of nations are those who seek to benefit themselves by doing the things that they like and know how to do, in order to provide services that people want for prices they are willing to pay.

Wealth-creators do not necessarily create wealth for admirable reasons. They do it to benefit themselves. They benefit themselves by providing services whose value is greater than the prices they ask. When opportunities to profit from their efforts are destroyed, wealth-creators stop, and may even destroy the wealth they have already created.

This stark reality is true to Ayn Rand's personal experience in Russia after the Communist revolution.   Ayn was born in 1905 in Russia and lived in the house that was owned by her father, who was a pharmacist. When Ayn was 12, the Bolshevik victory of 1917 brought the confiscation of her father's pharmacy and periods of near-starvation. According to the film's producer, Ayn and her family were reduced to living in two rented rooms, upstairs, and in the back of the house that her father formerly owned. PITTSBURGH - The Smith for Senate campaign today announced a debate with Senator Bob Casey, to take place on Friday, October 26, at WPVI's studio in Philadelphia. The debate will be broadcast on Sunday, October 28, and available for rebroadcast after 2:00 pm on October 28, 2012 (and within 72 hours of the original airdate & time) by any television/cable outlet, or radio station that wishes to do so.

"Tom welcomes the opportunity to contrast his detailed plan to create jobs, balance the budget, and reduce the debt with Senator Casey's record as a failed career politician who has voted to increase the debt, raise taxes, and weaken Medicare," said Smith Campaign Manager Jim Conroy. The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq

Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet, The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.

The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.

Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.

Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.

The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.

The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization

Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.

The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. It also discusses how the agents of radicalization in the Nashville Muslim community have been aided by collaborators in the establishment media, politics and the so-called "interfaith" community.

1. At Best a Fleeting Tie for Obama. The Reality is a Cancer on His Campaign

I think Mitt Romney won the debate, but not by much. He flubbed a few good opportunities to really score decisive blows on the President, but definitely drew more blood. The CNN polling and CBS News polling confirm it. While more thought Barack Obama won the debate, largely because his last performance was so bad, clear majorities outside the margin of error thought Mitt Romney would be best on the economy, jobs, the deficit, etc. In fact, while other areas of the debate may overshadow this point, Romney deftly dispatched Obama on his economic record. That is the one issue that matters. It got so bad, Obama had to trot out Planned Parenthood and Big Bird.

Additionally, if you ever wondered who could be undecided at this point in the election, well now you know. Fear for the Republic. Why the debate commission thought it a good idea to go to Long Island, NY to hear from undecided voters in an area not considered a swing state is really beyond me.

Before I go anywhere else, one part of the debate is absolutely going to get overshadowed and I actually think it was one of the most critical exchanges. It showed just how out of touch Barack Obama is. It also explains why voters who thought Obama might have won the debate overwhelming thought Mitt Romney would do better on jobs and the economy.

The President tried to claim that the reason gas prices were so low in 2008 was because the economy was so bad. He actually wanted the audience to believe that the economy is going gangbusters now as a reason for $4.00 gasoline - a delusion the undecided voters clearly did not buy. His words - he said that gas prices were so low because of the economy, which clearly means he thinks it is so high now because of the recovery. What recovery? Romney hit him hard on this and the undecided voters reacted favorably to Romney. There is more room for Romney to hit Obama on the airwaves over gas prices.

This was an amazing and stunning show of total detachment from the reality of the American economic situation. I was stunned he said that.

Beyond that issue, even if we were charitable and declared the debate a tie, this debate spawned a cancer for Barack Obama that is going to do far more post-debate damage than some first imagined as the debate drew to a close. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

3.  The Pigs At Obama's Green Energy Trough

Romney V. Obama -- Round II

That was perhaps the most confrontational presidential debate I have ever witnessed. There were moments when it looked as if it could come to blows. That was surprising given the conventional wisdom that the candidates would go after the women's vote. Political analysts will tell you that such aggressiveness usually does not attract female voters.

One thing that jumped out at me throughout the 90 minute debate was the breathtaking effort by Barack Obama to claim the conservative position on a variety of issues. Thus Obama, who has tried to limit oil, natural gas and coal production, attempted to brag about the increased drilling activity that has occurred in spite of his efforts to shut it down.

He embraced the Second Amendment right to bear arms while he has spent four years putting judges on the courts who will do everything they can to limit and undermine that right. He praised intact families as key for the country. But I cannot think of one program he has promoted that would strengthen intact families. And I can recall only one speech in his entire presidency devoted to the subject.

But perhaps most extraordinary was Obama's embrace of free enterprise. He has spent the past four years attacking major industries. He made a big government takeover of health care his top priority. He has repeatedly vowed to raise taxes so that government, rather than the private sector, can redistribute wealth. But now, three weeks before the election, Obama wants us to believe he is a champion of free enterprise. Amazing!

Why We Lost Afghanistan

Regardless of who wins this election in a few years the final planes carrying the last soldiers will shake off Afghanistan's dust and take to the sky. They will leave behind a limited number of advisers, ex-military civilian contractors and a whole bunch of diplomats running out the clock in Kabul. A few years later when Islamist mobs are roaming the streets and rocket attacks on the US embassy have become routine, the helicopters on the roof will be back and the surviving diplomats will be on their way to new assignments in more peaceful parts of the world like Baghdad and Cairo.

 

The war in Afghanistan is lost and that loss is mostly unspoken. Had Obama never been elected then the left, in coordination with their Democratic big brothers, might have elevated the defeat to the level of another Vietnam. But that dream, nurtured in the early years of the Bush Administration, is a done deal after the Son of Jimmy Carter who ran on a platform of beating the Taliban. Instead of another Vietnam, the long war will be an unremarked defeat.

Neither side wants to talk about it and the American people just want to leave. The ending is written the cemeteries are full and all that's left is to shake off the dust and go home.

Defeats however have to be learned from and no one intends to learn the lessons of Afghanistan. The people responsible for 1,500 deaths in implementing a directive to beat the Taliban without breaking a single fingernail on an Afghan civilian, even if he's a Taliban gunman hiding behind a Burqa, will not pay the price for this. They will go on to lucrative gigs as lobbyists or leadership trainers, herding corporate executives around golf courses and trading on anecdotes about the time they almost came under fire.

They will not be held accountable, because when they sacrificed 1,500 American soldiers they were just following orders and the orders came from generals and the generals were following orders from Valerie Jarrett and Susan Rice and Hillary Clinton and the entire diploarchy on a desperate quest to win the war and end the occupation by getting the Taliban to the negotiating table and getting Obama to the Mission Accomplished jet in time for the election.

Rebel arms flow said to benefit jihadists in Syria

White House strategy of minimal and indirect intervention cast into doubt

WASHINGTON - Most of the arms shipped at the behest of Saudi Arabia and Qatar to supply Syrian rebel groups fighting the government of Bashar al-Assad are going to hard-line Islamic jihadists, and not the more secular opposition groups that the West wants to bolster, according to American officials and Middle Eastern diplomats.

That conclusion, of which President Obama and other senior officials are aware from classified assessments of the Syrian conflict that has now claimed more than 25,000 lives, casts into doubt whether the White House's strategy of minimal and indirect intervention in the Syrian conflict is accomplishing its intended purpose of helping a democratic-minded opposition topple an oppressive government, or is instead sowing the seeds of future insurgencies hostile to the United States.

"The opposition groups that are receiving the most of the lethal aid are exactly the ones we don't want to have it," said one American official familiar with the outlines of those findings, commenting on an operation that in American eyes has increasingly gone awry.

American officials have been trying to understand why hard-line Islamists have received the lion's share of the arms shipped to the Syrian opposition through the shadowy pipeline with roots in Qatar, and, to a lesser degree, Saudi Arabia.  (C'mon guys...is it really that hard to figure out that our "staunch allies" Saudi Arabia and Qatar are actually more ideologically aligned with hard-line Islamists than they are with "secular opposition groups" - or us? This article bears witness to the standard Islamic ploy of allying against a common enemy while positioning oneself to defeat one's "ally" as soon as the current common enemy goes down. - Dave)

California CAIR: Bring Blasphemy Laws to the U.S.

SACRAMENTO - Rashid Ahmad, northern California leader of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, has been asked by his non-Muslim friends what he thinks of recent events in Libya.

"When I saw the demonstrations and learned of the ambassador's death, I said, 'Did these crazy people lose their minds? This guy [Ambassador Stevens] was trying to help the Libyans and they killed him,'" Ahmad told Steve Magagnini of the Sacramento Bee.

"But now the U.S. government says it might have been a planned attack by an al-Qaida affiliate, and the Libyan people were also victims. We are ashamed this happened and believe the reaction in the Muslim world is way out of line."

Note the reference to the "ambassador's death," which he says "happened," as though Chris Stevens, whom Ahmad calls "this guy," had died of natural causes. The CAIR boss gives no hint that violence, killing, murder, terrorism or assassination had anything to do with the ambassador's "death."

Rashid Ahmad neither identifies nor condemns the "crazy people" responsible for the murder of Chris Stevens and three other Americans. And the killers were only "way out of line," something one might say of a misbehaving child. The U.S. government says it "might" have been a planned attack by an al-Qaida affiliate, but Rashid Ahmad fails to say if he agrees. But he does hold forth on the "Innocence of Muslims" video.

Special Agent Vince Cefalu has been terminated, a post by the webmaster for the CleanUpATF website announced today.

"ATF's San Francisco hatchet men just served Special Agent Vince Cefalu with termination papers in the parking lot of a Dennys," the post reports. "They did this over a year and half after proposing the termination. Tune in tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET for the second presidential debate from Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York.

Tonight's debate promises to be one of the most critical presidential debates in recent history. Barack Obama is promising to be more aggressive in this debate. The Romney campaign says Obama can change his tactics but can't change his record.

There has also been some controversy about the moderator, CNN's Candy Crowley. The campaigns had agreed on clear rules for this town hall debate, with Crowley merely facilitating the questioning from the audience of undecided voters. But in recent interviews, Crowley has made it clear that she sees a more prominent role for herself in tonight's debate. Both campaigns are objecting.

In addition, Crowley labeled Mitt Romney's selection of Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate "some sort of ticket death wish." Can she be impartial in this debate?

Let me offer my perspective. I know Candy Crowley. I have been on her show numerous times. I debated David Axelrod on her show in the days before the 2010 elections. She was tough on me, but she was also tough on Axelrod. Compared to others in the media, I have found her to be tough but fair. I am hoping that is what she will bring to tonight's town hall debate.

Nice Try, Hillary

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is "taking one for the team." Yesterday Clinton said the following about the lack of security at the consulate in Benghazi, Libya:

"I take responsibility. I'm in charge of the State Department's 60,000-plus people all over the world, 275 posts. The president and the vice president wouldn't be knowledgeable about specific decisions that are made by security professionals."

By the way, Clinton made that statement in Lima, Peru. That's not exactly the same as testifying under oath before a congressional committee regarding who knew what and when.

Nice try, Hillary. She can try to take responsibility, but as the sign on Harry Truman's desk famously said of the presidency, "The buck stops here." Barack Obama appointed her. He's the one skipping his national security briefings. He's the one who continued blaming the attack on protests over a movie when officials at the State Department said "That was not our conclusion."

Back in early 2010, when Democrats were firmly in control of Congress, and long before he had to worry about reelection, Obama said, "The buck stops with me.  As President, I have a solemn responsibility to protect our nation and our people.  And when the system fails, it is my responsibility."

So why is Hillary falling on her sword? If she has future political ambitions, this allows her to appear noble to Obama loyalists -- taking the blame for a major fiasco so the boys at the top of the ticket don't get the blame at the ballot box. Perhaps she has at least guaranteed Obama's neutrality in a future primary battle with Joe Biden. And if she has no future political ambitions, then she has nothing to lose.

Here's something else to keep in mind. Hillary Clinton also said yesterday, "I think it is absolutely fair to say that everyone had the same intelligence." We now know that the intelligence indicated within 24 hours that this was a terrorist attack and that there were no protests at the consulate over a film. Yet the Obama Administration continued to lie about it for days.


GOP Senators Respond

Republican Senators John McCain (AZ), Lindsey Graham (SC) and Kelly Ayotte (NH) firmly rejected Clinton's claim of responsibility. Below is an excerpt of their joint statement:

"This is a laudable gesture, especially when the White House is trying to avoid any responsibility whatsoever. ...The security of Americans serving our nation everywhere in the world is ultimately the job of the Commander-in-Chief. The buck stops there.

"Furthermore, there is the separate issue of the insistence by members of the Administration, including the President himself, that the attack in Benghazi was the result of a spontaneous demonstration triggered by a hateful video... we continue to believe that the American people deserve to know why the Administration acted as it did."

Speaking Of Lying...

Leaders of the Catholic Church are criticizing Joe Biden for his outrageous claim during last week's vice presidential debate that there is nothing in the Obamacare regulations that harms religious liberty. Here's what Biden said:

"With regard to the assault on the Catholic Church, let me make it absolutely clear. No religious institution -- Catholic or otherwise, including Catholic social services, Georgetown hospital, Mercy hospital, any hospital -- none has to either refer [for] contraception, none has to pay for contraception, none has to be a vehicle to get contraception in any insurance policy they provide. That is a fact. That is a fact."

Here's what the bishops had to say in response:

"This is not a fact. The [Obamacare] mandate contains a narrow, four-part exemption for certain 'religious employers.' That exemption ... does not extend to 'Catholic social services, Georgetown hospital, Mercy hospital, any hospital,' or any other religious charity... They will have to serve as a vehicle, because they will still be forced to provide their employees with health coverage, and that coverage will still have to include sterilization, contraception, and abortifacients. They will have to pay for these things, because the premiums that the organizations (and their employees) are required to pay will still be applied, along with other funds, to cover the cost of these drugs and surgeries."

Obamacare is a disaster and it must be repealed. But it will only be repealed if we defeat Barack Obama and elect a conservative majority to the United States Senate three weeks from today. With your continued prayers and financial support, that is exactly what we intend to do!
 

Talk of a close race makes Dems feel good but gaping enthusiasm gaps with key blocs speaks louder

A number of Barack Obama's essential voting blocs have waning enthusiasm to vote next month and they are reporting this lack of excitement to pollsters around the country.  These blocs, African Americans Hispanics and Young voters are substantially less likely to turnout to vote.     

In accessing Obama's situation the Left has fallen back to the straw man position of "Well of course Obama is winning among African Americans, Hispanics and Young voters." This is very true but his winning these groups is a given. The question is how much will their winning margins help carry Obama total vote count?  

The most recent survey shows Republican enthusiasm at 13 points higher than Democrat enthusiasm. No one is still insisting the Democrats have an edge in eagerness to get to the polls.

 Last week Barack Obama was proved a liar over his handling of the Libyan embassy attacks and embarrassed by Joe Biden's inappropriate mugging and laughter during his debate with Paul Ryan.

Within the torrent of bad polling news Obama had to have heard the news that he is now on his way to being the first Democrat to lose the Jewish vote since they started keeping score in 1916.

An Investor's Business Daily/TIPP poll says Mitt Romney is leading Obama 44/40 among Jewish voters. While the survey message cautions  this was a small sample of a small group, no amount of "yeah buts" can talk away Obama's fall from 78% among Jews in 2008 to anything near 40%. Moreover the 16 points of "undecided" are statistically and historically likely to deliver another 13 points to Romney for a mind blowing 57/43 victory among Jews. No Democrat has ever won ... The previous presidential and vice presidential debates covered a host of issues, but there are key questions still to be answered. Heritage experts submitted five issues below-with questions-that it is important to discuss before the debate moves on to foreign policy exclusively.

1. Welfare reform

Since the 1960s, government has spent nearly $20 trillion on the War on Poverty. The federal government now runs about 80 programs providing aid to the poor. Government at all levels spends nearly $1 trillion annually to fight poverty. The Obama Administration unilaterally issued a policy gutting the work requirement from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program.

Question: Should all able-bodied recipients be required to work or prepare for work as a condition of receiving aid in federal public housing, food stamps, and cash assistance programs?

2. Trade

The United States ranks 10th in the Heritage Foundation/Wall Street Journal Index of Economic Freedom. Trade barriers, from tariffs to a lack of free trade agreements with other countries, hinder America's prosperity. Brand new research from Heritage shatters trade misconceptions, showing that imports-from China-actually create jobs here in the United States.

Question: The United States' ranking in various international measures of economic freedom and competitiveness has dropped dramatically over the last 4 years. What policies would you propose to help Americans regain the economic freedom they have lost?

3. Medicaid

There has been lots of discussion about Medicare, but what about Medicaid, which delivers health care primarily to the poor? Half the gain in coverage under Obamacare was projected by adding millions more to Medicaid. On average, Medicaid physicians are paid only about 58 percent of what private insurance pays. According to a recent study, in 2011, one out of three Medicaid doctors would not accept new Medicaid patients-with a direct correlation to physician reimbursement rates. While the health care law does temporarily raise the payment rate for Medicaid primary care doctors, after 2014, these same doctors will face a 19 percent pay cut.

Question: What will you do to ensure that Medicaid beneficiaries get better access to health care?

4. Federal Spending and Debt

In 2012, the federal government spent $29,691 per household, $9,398 of which was deficit spending. Meanwhile, the national debt per taxpayer climbed to more than $111,000, which is more than twice what the average American can expect to earn in 2012.

Question: How would you cut spending and reduce the debt burden for Americans?

5. American-Produced Energy

Hydraulic fracturing-called fracking-has helped tap vast supplies of oil and natural gas in the United States. The boom in natural gas from the use of hydraulic fracturing has attracted the attention of the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of the Interior-even as states have been effective at regulating fracking. Unnecessary layers of federal red tape would slow energy production and much-needed economic growth in the United States.
