Global warming stopped 16 years ago, reveals Met Office report quietly released... and here is the chart to prove it

The world stopped getting warmer almost 16 years ago, according to new data released last week.  

The figures, which have triggered debate among climate scientists, reveal that from the beginning of 1997 until August 2012, there was no discernible rise in aggregate global temperatures.

This means that the 'plateau' or 'pause' in global warming has now lasted for about the same time as the previous period when temperatures rose, 1980 to 1996. Before that, temperatures had been stable or declining for about 40 years.

The movie Atlas Shrugged, presents Ayn Rand's dramatic allegory of Adam Smith's observation above. It is powerful, and worth seeing.

Rand's allegory is true to the muck-raking traditions of her time, and to Adam Smith's observation that wealth-creators are not necessarily noble characters.

In Adam Smith's view, those who create the wealth of nations are those who seek to benefit themselves by doing the things that they like and know how to do, in order to provide services that people want for prices they are willing to pay.

Wealth-creators do not necessarily create wealth for admirable reasons. They do it to benefit themselves. They benefit themselves by providing services whose value is greater than the prices they ask. When opportunities to profit from their efforts are destroyed, wealth-creators stop, and may even destroy the wealth they have already created.

This stark reality is true to Ayn Rand's personal experience in Russia after the Communist revolution.   Ayn was born in 1905 in Russia and lived in the house that was owned by her father, who was a pharmacist. When Ayn was 12, the Bolshevik victory of 1917 brought the confiscation of her father's pharmacy and periods of near-starvation. According to the film's producer, Ayn and her family were reduced to living in two rented rooms, upstairs, and in the back of the house that her father formerly owned. In 1957, Ayn published Atlas Shrugged, which translates her experiences in Russia onto the American experience of Progressivism in the 1920's, 1930's and later, and provides her warning of things that may come. Her book, and the movie, are particularly relevant at this time.

Dear Friends,

We have never been busier!  With the polls showing a tight election, we are excited and energized.

Last week, we witnessed the strength of community as we rallied in support of Samantha Pawlucy and the First Amendment.  It was good to see so many of you there. 

For anyone who doesn't know it, Samantha, 16, was the young woman who was

humiliated by her math teacher (yes, math teacher)  for wearing a Romney/Ryan Tee shirt on dress down day at Charles Carroll High School in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia.  (Charles Carroll, the lone Catholic signer of the Declaration of Independence for whom the high school was named, must be weeping in Heaven. Oh, the irony of it all.)

We are  to the grateful to the organizers of the rally, and WPHT's Dom Giordano, for raising public awareness regarding Samantha's plight.

It was reported, a few days ago, that Governor Romney, himself, phoned

Samantha to offer her thanks and praise for the courage she has exhibited throughout this entire ordeal.

In other matters, we were happy to see so many of you at Chris Stigall's VP Debate Watch Party in South Philadelphia.   We all got a major kick out Joe Biden's juvenile behavior.  Is he really going to challenge Hillary Clinton for the Democratic Nomination for President in 2016?  Now that would be even more hilarious.

On Tuesday, Chris is hosting another Debate Watch Party--this one at the Xfinity Sports Complex also located in South Philly.  We look forward to seeing you there!

And tomorrow, not only is Ann Romney appearing at a Romney Rally in Elizabethtown, Lancaster County--but New Jersey US Senate candidate Joe Kyrillos is holding a rally with Governor Chris Christie in Princeton.

Finally, a debate between Congressman Jon Runyan and his opponent, the widow of former Congressman John Adler, moderated by Steve Highsmith, was aired on NBC 10 this morning.  Congressman Runyan more than held his own.

SMITH-CASEY TO FACE OFF IN DEBATE

PITTSBURGH - The Smith for Senate campaign today announced a debate with Senator Bob Casey, to take place on Friday, October 26, at WPVI's studio in Philadelphia. The debate will be broadcast on Sunday, October 28, and available for rebroadcast after 2:00 pm on October 28, 2012 (and within 72 hours of the original airdate & time) by any television/cable outlet, or radio station that wishes to do so.

"Tom welcomes the opportunity to contrast his detailed plan to create jobs, balance the budget, and reduce the debt with Senator Casey's record as a failed career politician who has voted to increase the debt, raise taxes, and weaken Medicare," said Smith Campaign Manager Jim Conroy. "As public polling in the race has made clear, Pennsylvanian's are raising serious concerns about Senator Casey's lack of leadership and lock step support for failed big government policies."

HAZLETON October 10, 2012 - A coalition of conservative organizations, politicians, and voters will gather on October 20^th in Hazleton, PA to unite in what they have been calling "a grassroots effort to restore America's foundations."

The Conservative Voter Rally is openly supported by at least nine conservative groups from across the region, and the state. Six special guest speakers are scheduled to address deeply held conservative beliefs such as low taxes, limited government, a strong military, and traditional moral values.

Main supporters include organizations such as: First District Republicans, God in Government, Pennsylvania Pastors Network, Luzerne County Young Republicans, Tea Party Patriots, Victory Bible Church, 94.3FM "The Talker," and Citizens Alliance of Pennsylvania.

The producers of The Voice of John, a pro-life documentary film slated for national release on November 4^th, will be there as well.

Scheduled speaker lineup includes: David Madeira (The David Madeira Show), Lou Barletta (U.S. Congressman), Sam Rohrer (President, Pennsylvania Pastors Network), Tarah Toohil (Pennsylvania House of Representatives), Bob Zaruta (President, Luzerne County Young Republicans), and Laureen Cummings (Candidate for U.S. Congress).

The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq

Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet, The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.

The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.

Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.

Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.

The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.

The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization

Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.

The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. Tea party leader: Movement's role 'more important and more difficult' if Romney wins

If Mitt Romney becomes president, don't expect the tea party movement to just fade away without Barack Obama in the White House.

"I think that our role becomes even more important and more difficult at that point," Tea Party Patriots national coordinator Jenny Beth Martin told The Daily Caller in a Thursday afternoon interview at a Washington, D.C. coffee shop.

Martin said the conservative grassroots will embrace the role of making sure Romney sticks to the fiscal principles he's campaigned on: cutting government and reducing spending.

"I think that if Romney wins," Martin told The DC, "that'll be a huge challenge for us and something that the Republicans won't quite know how to deal with."

The tea party coordinator said if Republicans end up with control of both Congress and the White House, and then allow spending to get out of control, tea party activists are "not going to put up with that again."

"That's part of what motivated people, what sparked the anger in this movement," she said.

Asked to describe the general tea party mood heading into the election, she quoted an activist from Florida who told her she feels "grim determination."

"It's not excitement and exuberance, it's just grim determination," Martin said. "So much is at stake. The president himself has said this election is a choice between two different futures for America. The people in this movement get that."

Does that mean tea partiers, many of whom have been wary of Romney all along, aren't excited about the Republican nominee?

"I don't know that it's really that," Martin said after a pause. "People understand where we're headed and they're worried. They're really worried about their country."

Asked to describe the frequency with which the Romney campaign and Tea Party Patriots interact, Martin said it was not very often.

"We had Romney on a couple tele-town halls, back when we did those as the primary season was in full swing," she said. "Other than that, we haven't had any contact with him at all."

One likely reason for this, she said, is that with her group's tax status, "there can't be collaboration or coordination, so I'm not surprised they haven't reached out."

But can she envision members of the Tea Party Patriots going to the White House to meet with Romney's people?

"I haven't even thought of that at all," she said. "I really haven't."

Jenny Beth Martin is confident of one thing, however. "Whether they get to know us or not, they'll know who we are when they're elected and they don't cut the spending," she said.

Thousands of Muslims have pledged a series of protests against Google HQ for a "hateful and offensive" anti-Islam video, saying they now live in an "age of mockery".

Benghazi is much worse than Watergate. The Obama administration was clearly lying to the American people...                     

The Heritage Foundation released a devastating video making the case that the response from the White House following the attack on our consulate in Benghazi and the murder of Ambassador Chris Stevens was more about disinformation than it was about telling the American people the truth. The latest incriminating information on the U.S. consulate attack in Benghazi, Libya indicates that the State Department turned down a request for additional security from concerned U.S. embassy staff.

New evidence shows there were security threats in Libya in the months prior to the deadly September 11 attack that killed U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans. Despite these threats, the State Department left its personnel there to fend for themselves.

The CNN report with Nick Robertson was filmed in Egypt on September 11th. Yeah, that's right, in the morning on the same day the Cairo embassy was overrun and the al-Qaeda flag hoisted over it.

Actually Nick Robertson's interview with Muhammed Al Zawahiri (brother to Ayman Al Zawahiri - al-Qaeda's top banana) takes place right in front of the Cairo embassy as the preparations for the protest were underway, September 11th, 2011.

Weapons of Misdirection

Virtually everyone is twisting into pretzel like contortions trying to figure out what caused the apparent confusion, chaos, misinformation and mistakes between the White House and the State Department in the Benghazi attack that led to the death of Libyan Ambassador Stevens, aide Sean Smith, and former SEAL's Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods.

Jennifer Ruben does a great job recently outlining the machinations HERE.

That's awfully problematic, given that Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice went on five talk shows suggesting in fact that the movie did provoke the attack. Mitt Romney's top foreign policy adviser, Richard Williamson, told Right Turn, "Last time I checked, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations was part of the U.S. State Department."    (article)  

However, we think possibly we have been able to piece it all together will a little research and dot connecting from the archives.   When you step back you realize the big picture is not what it seems at all.

Benghazi was not an assassination attempt, it was a botched kidnapping.

In order to understand you need to find all the bits of the puzzle.   That's where so much of our previous site research comes in handy.   Back in March of 2011 we were closely monitoring reports of al-Qaeda jihadist activity in/around Benghazi Libya.   Then in December of 2011 we noted a specific number of Libyan al-Qaeda operatives had been organized under the direction of Head Banana Ayman Al Zawahiri and reported by CNN.

[...]  The jihadists include one veteran fighter who had been detained in Britain on suspicion of terrorism. The source describes him as committed to al Qaeda's global cause and to attacking U.S. interests.  The source told CNN that the al Qaeda leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, personally dispatched the former British detainee to Libya earlier this year as the Gadhafi regime lost control of large swathes of the country.

The man arrived in Libya in May and has since begun recruiting fighters in the eastern region of the country, near the Egyptian border. He now has some 200 fighters mobilized, the source added. Western intelligence agencies are aware of his activities, according to the source.

Another al Qaeda operative, of dual European-Libyan nationality, was arrested in an unnamed country on his way to Libya from the Afghan-Pakistan border region.  (report)

Coincidentally the number of al-Qaeda operatives who are reported to have attacked the Consulate in Benghazi was estimated around 200.

Just before the beginning of the Libyan uprising the brother of Ayman Al Zawahiri,Muhammed Al Zawahiri, was released from prison in Egypt.  He also carries an understandable chip on his shoulder toward the U.S. considering we used black operations in Saudi Arabia to identify his contacts.

In 1999, security forces picked up Mohamed Al Zawahiri in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where he had settled with his family and was working as an engineer for a construction company.

He claims UAE authorities tortured him for four months - at the behest of the CIA - in an attempt to extract information about his brother. During that time, Zawahiri says, he offered to mediate between his brother and the West, something he believes could have prevented the Sept.11 attacks, but his overtures were rebuffed by UAE officials.

In 1999, he was extradited to Egypt to face terrorism charges related to Sadat's assassination and conspiracy to topple the regime - charges he denies, but he was jailed by Mubarak in Egypt.   He was later acquitted upon appeal, but Mubarak refused to let him leave prison.   He remained in jail until March of 2011 when he was released.

Zawahiri spent the following five years in solitary confinement in Egypt's notorious underground prisons. There, in a 6-by-6-foot cell with no access to sunlight, he says, he was repeatedly waterboarded, electrocuted, and subjected to sleep deprivation.  (Report)

Muhammed is the guy who organized the protest at the US embassy in Cairo on 9/11/12(See video above). Muhammad's release was made possible by the newly legal influence of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt when Hosni Mubarak was on the ropes.

It was not a disrespectful U-Tube video of the Prophet Mohammed that kicked off the Cairo protest.   It was a Demand for the release of  Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman, The Blind Sheik.

Remember all the "chatter" about the possibility of the Blind Sheik being released the week after the Benghazi attack ?

The U.S. State Department is actively considering negotiations with the Egyptian government for the transfer of custody of Omar Abdel-Rahman, also known as "the Blind Sheikh," for humanitarian and health reasons, a source close to the Obama administration told TheBlaze.

"Chatter" is what happens within intelligence circles when a specific name becomes the mention of some discussion - but the persons overhearing the discussion don't quite know what the subject matter of consequence is all about.

Why the "chatter" on Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman?   Bear with me.....

Lets pause and just reflect on what we do know as fact at this moment in the discussion.

• Ayman Al Zawahiri dispatched al-Qaeda operatives into Libya.
• Brother Muhammed Al Zawahiri was free in Egypt, and coordinated a protest at the Cairo embassy on 9/11/12.
• The Cairo Embassy protest was about the Blind Shiek being released, not a movie.
• Immediately following the Benghazi attack U.S. intelligence sources were hearing chatter within their intelligence circles about the name of the Blind Sheik.

OK, so we continue.  Lets look on the ground in Benghazi, Libya just after the Cairo Embassy protest got out of control on 9/11.

We know there was at least two probative attacks on the consulate grounds prior to 9/11.  One of them with an IED detonation test to breach the protective wall.  We know the Libyan police (Militia) were warned by their families to leave the consulate area in advance of the attack beginning.   The neighborhood knew something was about to happen.

We know with certainty there was no protest outside the U.S. Consulate, that day.  We know the attack began around 8:30 pm after the Turkish diplomatic corp left the compound following their meeting with Ambassador Stevens.   We know from Fran Townsend with CNN the attack took place over a period of six hours;  We know there were approximately 200 terrorists engaged in the attack;  We know the total of Libyan and US security forces were 10 or 11 armed guards inside the compound.   We know that RPG's were used at the consulate, and at least one 23mm anti-aircraft type weapon was fired into the buildings.

There are numerous reports the Libyan police officer assigned to Ambassador Stevens pointed out where he was hiding within the compound.   But we do know as fact thatSteven's aide Chris Smith was dead when Glen Doherty, Tyrone Woods and the rescue team from the Annex arrived.  And we know they were unable to locate Ambassador Stevens; but located and removed over 20 consulate employees back to the Annex building approximately a half mile away before they again came under attack, this time including mortar rounds.

We know that Ambassador Stevens body was dragged from a window opening in his safe room and the door was still sealed when reporters first arrived post attack.

We also know that Ambassador Steven's body was missing for approximately 8 hours from the time the rescue team evacuated the Annex until sometime the following day when his lifeless body turned up in a local hospital.

All of these facts have been confirmed by US intelligence sources, and reported in various media outlets with confirmations.   We also know from reporters that even though there was fire inside the consulate buildings there was no surrounding ground fire evidence noted other than on vehicles.

Question:  So why did the attack take place over 6 hours for a team of over 200 heavily armed bad guys outnumbering defensive security more than 20:1?   And if their intention was to KILL Ambassador Stevens then why did they spend so much time trying to get him out?    Why kill his aide immediately, but not him?

Once they took over the compound, which according to recent reports was only minutes after 8:30pm when they began, if their intent was a kill mission they would have been in and gone in a matter of moments;  surely in less than an hour, and all the consulate employees could have easily been slaughtered.

Something doesn't add up.

However, IF you connect the dots between the Cairo Embassy protest and the Benghazi Consulate attack you realize what becomes the biggest probability.   The al-Qaeda goal was to kidnap Ambassador Chris Stevens and ransom him back to the U.S. in exchange for Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman.

Under that scenario everything begins to make sense.

It makes sense of how the attack took place.   It makes sense of how long it took because their goal was to keep him alive.  It makes sense of the how the people were responding in the video of Ambassador Stevens being removed from the building.   It makes sense of why his body was missing.  It also makes sense of the post-attack "chatter".

It certainly makes sense of how the State Dept and White House were FUBAR'd if word of the real motivation, and real reason, ever got out.  It makes sense of why there was no real rush to put investigators on the scene, perhaps it even makes sense of why the families of he victims have not been given the results of the autopsy's performed at Andrews Air Force Base.

It also explains why all the divergent stories were quickly concocted to obfuscate and distract from the reality of a U.S. ambassador dying.  Because the reportedly eliminated al-Qaeda just attempted a bold kidnapping of a U.S. Representative to trade for a convicted terrorist The Blind Sheik.

In an election year.

Nuclear War Averted, 50 Years Ago This Week

Fifty years ago, the world came to the brink of nuclear war.

On October 14, 1962, U.S. policymakers learned that the Soviet Union was building missile bases in Cuba, which would have allowed Moscow to attack anywhere in the continental United States within minutes. An international crisis followed, and while the crisis did not end in a nuclear exchange, it is important that U.S. policymakers never forget lessons the crisis taught us.

The most important one is that it is very difficult to manage allies once they are nuclear-armed.

Nuclear-armed allies are one thing; nuclear-armed enemies are another. As Iran builds its nuclear capability, the lessons of the Cuban Missile Crisis resonate in a fresh way.

Today, The Heritage Foundation looks back at that crisis of 50 years ago with a blog series on its lessons for missile defense, presidential leadership, crisis management, and avoiding escalation.

In this morning's first installment, Heritage experts Michaela Bendikova and Baker Spring remind us that "Fidel Castro and Che Guevara encouraged the Soviets to use ballistic missiles stationed in Cuba to attack the U.S."

Peter Brookes and Audrey Beck will examine President John F. Kennedy's leadership during the crisis, "a prime example of strong leadership-under intense pressure-that may have avoided an apocalyptic nuclear war." This serves as a sober reminder that such crises fall on the shoulders of Presidents.

While schoolchildren were being taught to "duck and cover" in the case of an attack, the Cuban Missile Crisis "inculcated among two generations of American policymakers a concern about the potential for inadvertent escalation and accidental war," as Dean Cheng will explain.

The U.S. faces a number of crises around the world right now. From Syria and Turkey to Libya, Afghanistan, and Iran, "the Obama Administration's policies for nuclear arms control, disarmament, and limited defensive capabilities are inadvertently serving to undermine the NATO security umbrella and increase the appetite for nuclear weapons in allied countries," Bendikova and Spring note.

Though 50 years may have passed, there are many dangerous similarities between then and now. As Ray Walser warns:

The toxic mix of nuclear weapons, rage against the U.S., and a readiness to embrace martyrdom for a cause-either sacred or secular-represents a danger in the world of October 2012 just as it did in October 1962.

Reflecting on the crises we have weathered provides key lessons for handling today's crises and evaluating our country's leadership. As JFK observed, "Domestic policy can only defeat us; foreign policy can kill us."

Before a throng of enthusiastic supporters in Temecula, Calif., Congressman Allen West (R-Fla.) on Friday defended the principles of limited government and stressed the importance of the upcoming presidential election in what the conservative blog The Right Scoop describes as a "must watch" speech.

And it's burning up the Internet now.

"Two-hundred and thirty-six years ago, some men sat around and they thought about a land of dreams," Rep. West said. "And they thought about a place where the individual and their rights and freedoms would be preeminent. They thought about a place where there would be liberties and freedoms. They thought about a place that could be a republic."

"We cannot live in a land of dreams where we have record unemployment; where we have a record amount of Americans who live in poverty; where we have a record amount of Americans on food stamps and using EBT cards," he added.

The Florida congressman continued, emphasizing the important role fiscal restraint plays in fending off the desiccating qualities of statism.

He concluded on a historical note: "The question that you have to ask yourself, between now and the 6th of November and continuing on, when you look at yourself in the mirror, 'Was I a summer soldier? Was I a sunshine patriot?'"

Or did I make a stand to gain the admiration of subsequent generations, so that when the history books [are written], the history books will say: "On the 6th of November of 2012, the American people once again remembered what the land of dreams was about. They remembered their fundamental principles of limited government and fiscal responsibility. They remembered the great lesson of liberty that says, 'It's about their individual sovereignty.' They restored the freedoms of their free market. They stood for their traditional cultural values and they made sure that the walls that protect the longest running constitutional republic that the world has ever known - they stood as watchmen on the walls to secure those freedoms and liberties for future generations."

"That's what you have to ask yourself!" Rep. West concluded. "That's what has to be in the history books!"

October 15, 2012     Ahmadinejad gets a standing ovation-from some American youth and professors  

How could any clear-thinking person stand up and cheer for Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad? (See the first-hand account below, highlights added).

NEW YORK (JTA) - We could have been in Tehran.

Men in dark suits and earpieces stood outside the doors of the hotel, keeping watch for protesters and anybody else who didn't belong. Inside, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad prepared to meet a group of university students.

Except this was New York City, and I was one of those students.

In town for the United Nations General Assembly and between a whirlwind of media interviews, Ahmadinejad hosted a private dinner and briefing session Monday night at the Warwick Hotel with more than 150 students and professors from Harvard, New York University, Rutgers, the University of Pennsylvania, Penn State, Columbia and Stony Brook University, as well as some 50 U.N. interns.

As a journalist and student, I was eager for my firsthand encounter with one of the world's most polarizing figures. As a Jew and the grandson of Holocaust survivors, I worried how I would get through the night without shouting, "You're a damn liar!"

Before gaining admittance, we all had to give up our electronic devices and pass through security -- staffed by U.S. Secret Service agents. Wait a minute, aren't they supposed to protect us from the likes of him, not vice versa?

Upstairs, a buffet of Persian rice, kabobs and salads awaited. Sadly, no kosher option. After a little schmoozing, we were led into a ballroom where Iran's ambassador to the U.N., Mohammad Khazaee, prepped us for the encounter.

Our meeting is the most important of Ahmadinejad's visit, Khazaee told us, because, "you are the people who will shape the future of the world and the United States."

That platitude unnerved me only when Ahmadinejad was greeted with a standing ovation by these "future leaders" when he entered the room. Likewise, I cringed when students later addressed him as "Your Excellency" during the question-and-answer session. One even prefaced her remarks by saying it was "a pleasure" to be in his presence. That's when I felt my dinner beginning to come back up.

After eight years of listening to sound bites of this man denying my family's suffering during the Holocaust and the rights of my cousins to live in peace in their ancestral home, the moment had finally arrived. What would he say?

"We believe all humans are seeking dignity," Ahmadinejad said via the calm, disembodied voice of his translator on my headset. "The best way of bringing minds closer together is through dialogue. No one should seek to impose their views on others."

Rather, he said, we should be building "a new world" utilizing new "humanity-driven points of view with fairness and tolerance for all human beings."

Earlier in the day, Ahmadinejad had referred to the Jewish state as "a fake regime" and predicted that Israel would not be long for this world. But in this meeting, Ahmadinejad kept up an almost Pollyanna-ish demeanor as he sought to paint Iran as a symbol of peace and stability in the Middle East.

"We all must live in prosperity and security, showing kindness to one another," he said. "All nations together can build a much more beautiful world, a much more loving world."

His saccharine words were bellied by his constant refusal even to acknowledge Israel by name.

Addressing a question about how to repair U.S.-Iran relations, Ahmadinejad said these "two great countries" have been at odds for 33 years but would be better off if they cooperated.

U.S. support for the Shah and for Saddam Hussein during Iraq's war with Iran in the 1980s created "a negative mindset" toward the U.S. government among Iranians, he said.

"This doesn't mean Iran has not committed mistakes. Perhaps Iran could have behaved better," he said. "We are ready today for transparent dialogue."

It all sounded nice, even if had little to no relation to the truth. There was no mention of Iran's clandestine nuclear weapons pursuits, support for terrorist groups like Hezbollah and Hamas, sponsorship of terrorist attacks or violent suppression of domestic dissent.

"Without the presence of Iran, the region cannot be managed properly in a friendly manner," Ahmadinejad said.

I couldn't figure out whether or not he actually believed his own words.

When it came to Israel, Ahmadinejad said the role of the "Zionist regime" in the region is to create tension, and he blamed Israel -- not by name, of course -- for instigating five wars against its neighbors, imprisoning tens of thousands of Palestinians and destroying Palestinian homes with people still inside.

Western governments are unwilling to rein in the Zionists, he said, calling on the international community to "officially and severely" condemn threats against Iran, which is "committed to eradicating fundamental reasons that give rise to these tensions."

Now that sounded like the Ahmadinejad I knew.

As the meeting wrapped up, I was eager to get home. The next day was, after all, Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. Maybe part of me had hoped for a more Yom Kippur-like message, a plea for forgiveness, perhaps.

But Ahmadinejad had other plans. The next day, while I was in shul reciting the "Avinu Malkeinu" asking God to "nullify the thoughts of those who hate us" and "seal the mouths of our adversaries and accusers," Ahmadinejad was at the United Nations, delivering his speech.

 Last week Barack Obama was proved a liar over his handling of the Libyan embassy attacks and embarrassed by Joe Biden's inappropriate mugging and laughter during his debate with Paul Ryan.

Within the torrent of bad polling news Obama had to have heard the news that he is now on his way to being the first Democrat to lose the Jewish vote since they started keeping score in 1916.

An Investor's Business Daily/TIPP poll says Mitt Romney is leading Obama 44/40 among Jewish voters. While the survey message cautions  this was a small sample of a small group, no amount of "yeah buts" can talk away Obama's fall from 78% among Jews in 2008 to anything near 40%. Moreover the 16 points of "undecided" are statistically and historically likely to deliver another 13 points to Romney for a mind blowing 57/43 victory among Jews. No Democrat has ever won ...  On February 12, 1988 Joe Biden underwent surgery to repair an aneurysm had done to his brain.  Blood was leaking in his brain and it required an immediate operation. His condition was so serious that he received Last Rites from a Catholic priest. On May 4, 1988 he underwent a second surgery to continue the process of putting his brain back into working order. Based on his performance in last week's Vice Presidential debate these procedures may not have been entirely successful.  

Full recovery from any kind of a medical episode involving a brain aneurysm is never a sure thing. "Recovery to normal" is subjective. Those who regain their physical strength and coordination can perform manual labor and might never seem the worse for the episode. The Trend

New polls are coming out almost daily now, and the numbers have been wild. We have devoted a lot of space in this daily report to debunking some of the worst polls that show Barack Obama ahead, even though Mitt Romney is leading among independents. Some polls predict even greater Democrat turnout this year than in 2008. Keeping up with these polls on a day-to-day basis can be very frustrating.

That is why it is important to focus on the overall trend. Since the beginning of October and the first presidential debate, there has been a clear pro-Romney trend in the polling data.

On October 1st, Obama held an average lead of four points -- 49.3% to 45.3%. Today, Obama and Romney are tied at 47.3%. Obama is down two points and Mitt Romney is up two points. The standings of GOP candidates in a number of critical Senate races are improving too. Let's hope this trend continues for three more weeks!


Benghazi-gate Continues

The Obama Administration's evolving story on the Benghazi attacks continued to unravel this weekend. David Axelrod went on Fox News Sunday and ran into a buzz saw. Axelrod desperately tried to avoid answering legitimate questions and even tried to accuse the Romney/Ryan ticket of exploiting the attacks. At that point, host Chris Wallace's patience had been clearly exhausted. He ripped into Axelrod, saying:

"This is the first U.S. ambassador that has been killed since 1979. Susan Rice came on this show and five others and gave the American people a story that turned out not to be true and you're saying we shouldn't discuss this and wait for the investigation to be completed?"

You can watch their heated exchange here. These are the kinds of questions the Obama Administration should be forced to address on a daily basis!

On CBS yesterday, Senator Lindsey Graham gave no quarter either. Consider this exchange with host Bob Schieffer:

Senator Graham: Well, the facts are there was never a riot. The night in question, September 11th, Ambassador Stevens was being visited by the Turkish ambassador there wasn't a soul around the compound... My belief is that that was known by the administration within twenty-four hours and, quite frankly, Susan Rice, on your show on September 16th, the President on the 18th and the 25th, kept talking about an attack inspired by a video. ...They never believed that media would investigate. Congress was out of session, and this caught up with them. I think they've been misleading us, but it finally caught up with them.

Schieffer: Well, that is a very serious charge that you've just leveled, Senator Graham. Are you saying that the administration deliberately misled the American people to make it look as if terrorism is not as much of a threat as apparently it is?

Senator Graham: Either they're misleading the American people or incredibly incompetent. There was no way ... that you could believe five days after the attack it was based on a riot that never occurred. There was no riot at all. So, to say that, you're either very incompetent or you're misleading."

Eli Lake of the left-wing Daily Beast has done good reporting on the Benghazi attack. Friday he wrote that closed-circuit video as well as drone surveillance provided "the clearest evidence yet of a military-style assault" on the consulate. In addition, Lake noted that the "Video from the compound's cameras debunk the initial line from the Obama administration that there was a protest in front of the consulate on the night of the attacks."

This cover up is being compared to Watergate, but no one died in that scandal. Romney/Ryan must keep pressing the issue every day until we vote.


Arming Jihadists In Syria

A front-page story in today's New York Times provides yet another cautionary tale about the Arab Spring and the ensuing chaos in the Middle East. The headline says it all: "Rebel Arms Flow Is Said to Benefit Jihadists in Syria."

According to the Times, weapons intended for more pro-Western anti-Assad forces are instead ending up in the hands of "hard-line Islamic jihadists." This comes on the heels of a report late last week from Reuters that Islamist forces are now the most organized part of the anti-Assad opposition.

Just as a popular election gave Hamas control of Gaza, "change" is not always in our best interests when it comes to the Middle East. The Muslim Brotherhood controls post-Mubarak Egypt. Al Qaeda has a strong presence in Libya. And radical Islamists appear likely to emerge victorious in Syria.
