'Oblivious' Obama not behind Osama raid
Maj. Gen. Paul Vallely reveals name of leader who authorized operation
The decision to raid Osama bin Laden's compound in Pakistan and kill him was made without President Obama - and actually was kept from him until after the helicopters already were in Pakistani airspace - according to a new report from a retired major general who cites a senior intelligence source.
The raid was handled by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Director of Central Intelligence Leon Panetta and others in this way because Obama had vetoed multiple earlier opportunities to attack the man behind the 9/11 terror attacks, the report said.
The report comes from U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Paul E. Vallely, who retired in 1993 as deputy commanding general, Pacific Command, and has served as a senior military analyst for Fox News. He is now chairman of Stand Up America, which calls itself the standard bearer for the conservancy of the U.S. Constitution.
(Oct. 1, 2012) - As I noted in the introduction to my book, The Obama Timeline, a jury at a murder trial will often find the accumulated circumstantial evidence so overwhelming that a guilty verdict is obvious-even though there may be no witness to the crime. "The jurors in the Scott Peterson trial believed the collection of evidence more than they believed Scott Peterson. Among other things, the jury thought that being arrested with $15,000 in cash, recently-dyed hair, a newly-grown goatee, four cell phones, camping equipment, a map to a new girlfriend's house, a gun, and his brother's driver's license certainly did not paint a picture of a grieving husband who had nothing to do with his pregnant wife's disappearance and murder."
In the four years I have been gathering information about-and evidence against-Barack Hussein Obama, I have encountered hundreds of coincidences that strike me as amazing. None of those coincidences, by themselves, may mean much. But taken as a whole it is almost impossible to believe they were all the result of chance. Consider the Obama-related coincidences:

We have never been busier! With the polls showing a tight election, we are excited and energized.
Last week, we witnessed the strength of community as we rallied in support of Samantha Pawlucy and the First Amendment. It was good to see so many of you there.
For anyone who doesn't know it, Samantha, 16, was the young woman who was
humiliated by her math teacher (yes, math teacher) for wearing a Romney/Ryan Tee shirt on dress down day at Charles Carroll High School in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia. (Charles Carroll, the lone Catholic signer of the Declaration of Independence for whom the high school was named, must be weeping in Heaven. Oh, the irony of it all.)
Needless to say, the outrageous persecution of Samantha has become a national story.
We are to the grateful to the organizers of the rally, and WPHT's Dom Giordano, for raising public awareness regarding Samantha's plight.
It was reported, a few days ago, that Governor Romney, himself, phoned
Samantha to offer her thanks and praise for the courage she has exhibited throughout this entire ordeal.
In other matters, we were happy to see so many of you at Chris Stigall's VP Debate Watch Party in South Philadelphia. We all got a major kick out Joe Biden's juvenile behavior. Is he really going to challenge Hillary Clinton for the Democratic Nomination for President in 2016? Now that would be even more hilarious.
On Tuesday, Chris is hosting another Debate Watch Party--this one at the Xfinity Sports Complex also located in South Philly. We look forward to seeing you there!
And tomorrow, not only is Ann Romney appearing at a Romney Rally in Elizabethtown, Lancaster County--but New Jersey US Senate candidate Joe Kyrillos is holding a rally with Governor Chris Christie in Princeton.
Finally, a debate between Congressman Jon Runyan and his opponent, the widow of former Congressman John Adler, moderated by Steve Highsmith, was aired on NBC 10 this morning. Congressman Runyan more than held his own.

Thursday night brought us the one and only Vice Presidential debate of the 2012 cycle between Vice President Joe Biden and Congressman Paul Ryan. The debate took place at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. The moderator was Martha Raddatz, ABC's Chief Foreign Correspondent.
Wednesday night saw the first of three Presidential debates, and one Vice Presidential Debate, in the month of October. The first debate between President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney took place at the University of Denver in Colorado. The topics focused on domestic policy with Jim Lehrer, host of NewsHour on PBS, moderating.

1. General Wayne Tea Party to host a large rally on Oct 27 in KOP
This will include other tea parties from this region, as well as by The Sheepdogs from West Chester and Warriors Watch, a patriotic motorcycle club. The rally signs should largely be devoted to promoting Tom Smith for U.S Senate, but of course other tasteful and intelligent messages are encouraged. Where: The sidewalk at Route 202 & Mall Boulevard at King of Prussia Malls, by the Wells Fargo Bank. This is the turn where Mall Boulevard leads you between the two malls. 3. Election vigils at churches At our meeting Wed, Carla asked if any churches were doing an election vigil or something like that. This is a wonderful idea; I suggest you guys try to make this happen at your churches. If you're successful, please let us know. Please click on this great Faith Outreach packet assembled by our friends at Coalition For Advancing Freedom. It has a letter and information for your pastor encouraging religious freedom at the pulpit and promoting the Biblical World View through voting. It's outdated (I had sent this out months ago to encourage voter reg at churches) but it's still relevant for requesting that a voting vigil be organized.

CONSERVATIVE VOTER RALLY SLATED FOR OCTOBER 20TH
HAZLETON October 10, 2012 - A coalition of conservative organizations, politicians, and voters will gather on October 20th in Hazleton, PA to unite in what they have been calling "a grassroots effort to restore America's foundations."
The Conservative Voter Rally is openly supported by at least nine conservative groups from across the region, and the state. Six special guest speakers are scheduled to address deeply held conservative beliefs such as low taxes, limited government, a strong military, and traditional moral values.
Main supporters include organizations such as: First District Republicans, God in Government, Pennsylvania Pastors Network, Luzerne County Young Republicans, Tea Party Patriots, Victory Bible Church, 94.3FM "The Talker," and Citizens Alliance of Pennsylvania.
The producers of The Voice of John, a pro-life documentary film slated for national release on November 4th, will be there as well.
Scheduled speaker lineup includes: David Madeira (The David Madeira Show), Lou Barletta (U.S. Congressman), Sam Rohrer (President, Pennsylvania Pastors Network), Tarah Toohil (Pennsylvania House of Representatives), Bob Zaruta (President, Luzerne County Young Republicans), and Laureen Cummings (Candidate for U.S. Congress).
Tiffany Cloud, host of WYLN-TV's Storm Politics, will serve as emcee for the event. Pastor Ron Radtke, of Victory Bible Church, will lead the gathering in prayer and The Pledge of Allegiance.

The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq

Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet,The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.
The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.
Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.
Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.
The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.
The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization
Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.
The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz described the Medicare reforms proposed by GOP Vice-Presidential nominee and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) as "literally a death trap for seniors." White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters that Ryan's reforms would "change Medicare as we know it."
But it was Obamacare that already changed Medicare as we know it, transforming it literally into a death trap for seniors. Obamacare cut Medicare by $716 billion over the next 10 years alone, mostly by slashing Medicare payments to doctors and hospitals. And that is just a down-payment on what is to come.

Sen. Bob Casey and GOP Challenger Tom Smith will debate, both campaigns announced Friday afternoon. The event will take place on Friday October 26 at WPVI's studio in Philadelphia.
It will be broadcast on Sunday and available for rebroadcast any time afterward.
The debate will be moderated by Jim Gardner, Action News anchor at WPVI-TV. Gardner will be joined by two panelists: Monica Malpass, Action News Anchor and Vernon Odom, Action News Reporter.
The debate will be sponsored by WPVI-TV, 6abc, and The League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania Citizen Education Fund.
"I look forward to the opportunity to discuss jobs, the economy, national security and other issues important to the Commonwealth and the United States. There is much at stake in this election, especially for the middle class, older Pennsylvanians and our children," said Casey.
The Smith campaign was a bit more aggressive.
"Tom welcomes the opportunity to contrast his detailed plan to create jobs, balance the budget, reduce the debt with Senator Casey's record as a failed career politician who has voted to increase the debt, raise taxes, and weaken Medicare," said Campaign Manager Jim Conroy.
Efforts to schedule this debate were frustrating, organizers told the Associated Press recently, and the absence of a face-to-face on the schedule was beginning to attract attention.
On Thursday, PoliticsPA took a guessat why neither Casey not Smith actually wants to debate. To sum it up: because Smith isn't articulate and Casey isn't charismatic.
Casey leads Smith by an average of 6.3 percent. 46.8 percent to 40.5 percent, according to Real Clear Politics.

Over the past four years the American middle class has suffered an unprecedented decline. At this writing the labor for participation rate is the lowest since 1981 and for men it is the lowest since that statistic has been gathered. Household income has plummeted by 7.3% equating to over $4,000 per family. The number of persons on food stamps has nearly doubled in a mere four years. Facing strong Opposition in Syria the Muslim Brotherhood looks south to gain a new base to fight the regime of Bashar al-Assad. They must believe that the West friendly King will be a push over. By consolidating the Palestinians living in Jordon the Brotherhood is gaining leverage in a power play to gain more control of the region. It would make an excellent base for an al-Qaeda strike into Syria. This week our Secretary of Defense announced that American Troops were being sent to Jordon to assist the Jordanians and to deter to escalation of the violence to spilling over into the Kingdom.

Whistling past the graveyard has always been a popular pastime among journalists, especially when they have the distinct feeling that their candidate might not be up to a very important, very public challenge.

The Rasmussen Swing State Poll involves 11 states won by Obama in 2008 and believed to be competitive this time around. Romney now leads 49%-47%, the first time he has led this particular poll since September 17th. (1)
America's Most Biblically-Hostile U. S. President by David Barton
When one observes President Obama's unwillingness to accommodate America's four-century long religious conscience protection through his attempts to require Catholics to go against their own doctrines and beliefs, one is tempted to say that he is anti-Catholic. But that characterization would not be correct. Although he has recently singled out Catholics, he has equally targeted traditional Protestant beliefs over the past four years. So since he has attacked Catholics and Protestants, one is tempted to say that he is anti-Christian. But that, too, would be inaccurate. He has been equally disrespectful in his appalling treatment of religious Jews in general and Israel in particular. So perhaps the most accurate description of his antipathy toward Catholics, Protestants, religious Jews, and the Jewish nation would be to characterize him as anti-Biblical. And then when his hostility toward Biblical people of faith is contrasted with his preferential treatment of Muslims and Muslim nations, it further strengthens the accuracy of the anti-Biblical descriptor. In fact, there have been numerous clearly documented times when his pro-Islam positions have been the cause of his anti-Biblical actions.
Listed below in chronological order are (1) numerous records of his attacks on Biblical persons or organizations; (2) examples of the hostility toward Biblical faith that have become evident in the past three years in the Obama-led military; (3) a listing of his open attacks on Biblical values; and finally (4) a listing of numerous incidents of his preferential deference for Islam's activities and positions, including letting his Islamic advisors guide and influence his hostility toward people of Biblical faith.

On Wednesday evening, Glenn Beck delved into a laundry list of evidence revealing that the White House and President Obama have been far from honest when it comes to the recent embassy attacks in Libya and in Cairo.
The latest in a string of damning information now indicates that the State Department even rejected embassy staff's request for additional security prior to the attack and that security threats were present in Libya for months prior to September 11, when U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens, two Navy SEALs and another American civil servant were killed.
The coup de grace for the Obama administration, however, was in blaming a YouTube video for the attacks on U.S. embassies in Cairo and Benghazi when they were in fact premeditated. October 11, 2012 TPATH - Washington DC- Yesterday's Congressional hearing made big news as the cover up, lies and deception of the Obama Administration unraveled before our eyes.
Many other outlets will report on the combination of outrageous incompetence and unmitigated arrogance of the so called "Career State Department Officials".
That aspect of this despicable episode of foreign policy blundering will not go away, but something more seems to have been lost here.
Representative Dennis Kucinich, a staunch and consistent opponent of American intervention in the Middle East reminded everyone that our bombing and destruction of Libya was not authorized and Obama never received approval from Congress for any of the actions America took in that war.
So what then was the big story that seems to have been brushed aside? Fast and Furious On Steroids.
There is a potential for massive loss of life and disruption of commercial airline traffic, everywhere in the world.
Once again, the Obama administration put deadly weapons in the hands of terrorists and Al Qaeda without a clue or a care as to who they were or the future consequences of those actions.
The State Department's former regional security officer, Eric Nordstrom, was pressured by the committee to approximate how many shoulder fired missiles, capable of taking down passenger jets, are in the hands of terrorist. Hold on to your seats. His answer? Over 10,000!
It may take some time for the committee to sort out just whom it was that made the final decisions, over and over again, not to give Nordstrom the security personnel and weapons he requested and it may take even longer to dig out from under the rocks the scoundrel who ordered the State Department and other officials to lie to the American people.
TPATH has a good idea because as we have been told over the years, the "fish rots from the head". And by the way, that fish head? It was stinking up the UN, inciting hatred to the world, long after even the White House gardener knew that a buffoonish video was not the cause of that attack.
So, despite the gravity of the cover up and lies, isn't the real story a question on who authorized massive amounts of weapons to be handed over to terrorists? Should we not be troubled about where these missiles are and where they will end up? Such as outside airports in America and Europe?
October 12, 2012 Police Chiefs bow to political correctness

Throughout this year we have brought you examples of how law enforcement, military and intelligence entities have been surrendering to political correctness and pressure from Muslim Brotherhood connected organizations.
The national strategic threat assessment purged all references to radical Islam. The FBI is purging its counterterrorism training materials of any reference to radical Islam. Lt. Col. Matthew Dooley was publicly reprimanded by Gen. Martin Dempsey after Muslim organizations complained about a class LTC Dooley was teaching at the Joint Forces Staff College.
Below is an online release from MPAC (Muslim Public Affairs Council) commending the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) for passing a resolution pertaining to counterterrorism.
MPAC is a Muslim Brotherhood connected organization.
We agree with the IACP resolution that preventing "prejudice" and "discrimination" in counterterrorism practices is a worthy goal.
But note this line from the resolution: "...religion, ethnicity, and cultural background do not explain why a small few choose to engage in violence based on their radical beliefs..."
In other words, "jihad" has nothing to do with Islamic terrorism. "Jihad Denial Syndrome" strikes again.
No wonder MPAC is rejoicing.
MPAC & MAHSC Commend International Police Association's Pledge to Remove Bias from Training
(Los Angeles - 10/10/12) - Today, the Muslim Public Affairs Council and the Muslim American Homeland Security Congress (MAHSC) commended the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) for adopting a powerful resolution at its 119th Annual Conference in San Diego last week that condemns prejudice in law enforcement training and pledges to promote bias-free training on countering violence extremism.
The IACP is the largest, most prominent and active organization for police agencies internationally. With more than 14,000 people representing 65 countries in attendance at this year's conference, the passage of the resolution should send a loud and clear message to law enforcement agencies worldwide.
The resolution reads in part:
"WHEREAS, the International Association of Chiefs of Police condemns prejudice and discrimination; and
WHEREAS, violent extremism as a threat is not constrained by any single ideology; and, religion, ethnicity, and cultural background do not explain why a small few choose to engage in violence based on their radical beliefs; and
WHEREAS, the best approach to Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) and defeating terrorism emphasizes the strength of local communities and the trusting relationships that law enforcement has with local communities, which represents the best defense against terrorist ideologies and violent extremists; ... now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the International Association of Chiefs of Police condemns bias and prejudice in all forms of CVE training and education; and, be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the International Association of Chiefs of Police promotes a CVE training curriculum for law enforcement that is based upon values of equality and fairness to all cultures, nationalities, and religious beliefs;..."
"We appreciate the IACP's resolution and we will continue to work diligently to ensure equal protection under the law," said Salam Al-Marayati, MPAC's President.
"This is an opportunity to stand side by side with law enforcement on an issue which concerns all communities," said Dafer Dakhil, the chairperson of MAHSC. "We express our support without reservation."
The past few years have been strenuous between police departments and the communities they serve, as a result of high profile controversies around spying, profiling and infiltration of American Muslim communities. These tactics have not only proven to be ineffective and resulted in wasting taxpayers' money, but have crushed the fragile trust of the community.
Founded in 1988, MPAC is an American institution which informs and shapes public opinion and policy by serving as a trusted resource to decision makers in government, media and policy institutions. MPAC is also committed to developing leaders with the purpose of enhancing the political and civic participation of American Muslims.
She said it was not "propaganda" to point out that the enemy wants to destroy the United States and the West. "Our way of life is under attack," she said.

That was the function he performed at the debate. He was the scarecrow who will make Obama's enhanced aggressiveness seem more moderate by comparison. He's a joke who can't lose a debate because no one takes him seriously. He can only inflict damage because like a child or an idiot, he operates outside the realm of responsibility.

And not only did Biden effectively admit that we're arming and training Syrian Sunni rebels, but that Obama has led the Saudis and Turkey's Islamist AKP, both of whom back a Muslim Brotherhood takeover of Syria, determine who gets our aid.

The Obama Doctrine sought to resolve the War on Terror by dividing Islamists into two camps; the moderate political Islamists and the extremist violent Islamists. These categorizations were wholly artificial and everyone from Obama on down knew how artificial the differences between the so-called extremists and moderates were.
The Afghanistan Surge, which cost nearly 1,500 American lives, was a brute force mechanism for engineering a divide that was supposed to result in the military defeat of the Taliban and their transformation into a political party. The Taliban would be free to lock up Afghan girls again, so long as they did it after winning a democratic election.
1,500 American soldiers died in Afghanistan to improve Obama's leverage in his failed bid to transform the Taliban into a political party. It is hard to think of any aspect of his foreign policy more hideously repulsive than this simple fact.

Civilization is law. A civilization makes its own laws and enforces them. And it views those who do not abide by those laws as lawless savages. Who the civilized lawkeepers and who the lawless savages is a matter of perspective.
From the perspective of our rulers, law is defined by multilateral human rights commitments. From the perspective of their rulers, law is defined by the Koran and allegiance to Islamic law. Both consider their approach just and believe that their mission is to extend and universalize their legal codes. The transnationalists believe that they can integrate Muslims within their codes. Muslims believe that they can integrate transnationalists within their system.
Similar alliances between Muslims and Leftists, whether in Iran or Egypt, have always broken in favor of the Islamists. The determining factor in those countries was ruthlessness and lower class support. In a global struggle for our civilization, it will be demographics that will determine the losers and winners. If Muslim immigration can shift the demographics of a region or of our entire civilization sufficiently in favor of their creed then freedom will be as dead as a rebellious daughter in Afghanistan.

Obama Throws Hillary Under The Bus - Clintons Furious
It appears that Barack Obama is ready to let Secretary of State Clinton take the fall for the failure in security in Benghazi. During the vice-presidential debate on Thursday it became clear that is what the agenda was.
The Secretary of State, and by extension, the Chief of Mission (COM), are responsible for developing and implementing security policies and programs that provide for the protection of all U.S. Government personnel (including accompanying dependents) on official duty abroad. This mission is executed through the Bureau of Diplomatic Security (DS). Personal and facility protection are the most critical elements of the DS mission abroad as they directly impact upon the Department's ability to carry out its foreign policy. With terrorist organizations and coalitions operating across international borders, the threat of terrorism against U.S. interests remains great. Therefore, any U.S. mission overseas can be a target even if identified as being in a low-threat environment.
Obama Administration: First to Fund Organization Tied to Cop-Killing Terrorist Group
We're continuing a list of Obama's "firsts" as President. There will be one more, since this takes up so much time and effort especially when time and effort is now needed to show how Obama covered up the September 11, 2012 terrorists attack upon United States Citizens and which shows that Al Qaeda is now growing, not running scared as Obama would like for us to believe, the more one knows about Obama, the more he displays his Marxist/Communist upbringing!

My letters, posted as "Veteran", are in response to a column by a woman who praised the moderator of the Ryan-Biden debate. I had just saved excellent source material and was able to put them together quickly.
When it became obvious that Radditz was continually allowing Biden to talk over Ryan's answers and play the high school class clown, Ryan should have requested that Raddatz be replaced by a genuine moderator. For 70% of American Jews, party loyalty trumps all of their conceivable rational interests.
Decades ago, the sociographer Milton Himmelfarb coined the aphorism that "American Jews earn like Episcopalians and vote like Puerto Ricans." And his words ring as true today as ever. Surveys show that roughly 70 percent of American Jews intend to cast their ballots for President Barack Obama's reelection next month.
Himmelfarb's quip indicated that American Jews abjure their economic interests in favor of their liberal values. Certainly it is true that for American Jews to vote for Obama next month they must act against their economic interests.
Obama's economic policies have taken a huge toll on the economic fortunes of American Jews who invest disproportionately in the stock market. His nationalization of the college loan business has given universities impetus to raise tuition rates still further, thus dooming more young American Jews to start their adult lives under a mountain of debt. And it isn't at all clear how they will be able to pay off this debt since under Obama half of recent college graduates cannot find jobs.
Obama's gutting of Medicare to pay for Obamacare has harmed the medical choices for older Jewish Americans.
His war on tax deductions for charitable contributions has placed synagogues, Jewish schools and nursing homes in financial jeopardy.
So with economics ruled out as a reason to support Obama we are left with American-Jewish values.
But is Obama really advancing those values? What are those values anyway? Well, there's civil liberties.

On Oct. 1, the Obama administration started awarding bonus points to hospitals that spend the least on elderly patients. It will result in fewer knee replacements, hip replacements, angioplasty, bypass surgery and cataract operations.
These are the five procedures that have transformed aging for older Americans. They used to languish in wheelchairs and nursing homes due to arthritis, cataracts and heart disease. Now they lead active lives.
But the Obama administration is undoing that progress. By cutting $716 billion from future Medicare funding over the next decade and rewarding the hospitals that spend the least on seniors, the Obama health law will make these procedures hard to get and less safe.
The Obama health law creates two new entitlements for people under age 65 - subsidies to buy private health plans and a vast expansion of Medicaid. More than half the cost of these entitlements is paid for by cutting what hospitals, doctors, hospice care, home care and Advantage plans are paid to care for seniors.

Biden's Big Lie
There's a lot I could write about last night's debate -- Biden's defense of big government, his refusal to offer specifics on entitlement reform, his false statement about Obamacare not harming religious liberty, etc. But here is what I believe could be the most important development: Vice President Biden made a serious mistake right out of the gate with his response to the very first question regarding the Benghazi attack.
First Biden tried to blame Paul Ryan, saying, "The congressman here cut embassy security in his budget by $300 million." The Ryan budget never became law, so whatever cuts Paul Ryan proposed to the State Department's budget had no impact on the situation in Libya. What did affect the situation there were the decisions made by the Obama/Biden Administration.
When pressed about the facts of the attack, Biden threw the intelligence community under the bus and added, "We weren't told they wanted more security again. We did not know they wanted more security again." Obviously, the vice president wasn't paying attention to the hearings on Capitol Hill yesterday. The embassy repeatedly begged for more security. And as for the intelligence, there were reports that the administration knew within 24 hours that the attack had nothing to do with a video -- a lie Obama, Biden and others continued to push for days!
This morning, liberal reporters for CBS and TIME expressed concern that Biden's remarks last night "could spell trouble for the administration." Even commentators on CNBC, a financial network, were talking about Biden's bizarre answers on Libya.
Yesterday's hearings on Capitol Hill focused on the lack of security at the Benghazi consulate. Given Vice President Biden's statements last night, I think we need additional hearings to find out exactly what the president knew and when he knew it. Members of the intelligence community should be given the opportunity to set the record straight. The American people deserve answers, and we are not getting them from the Obama/Biden Administration.
Ryan Wins
Politico reports that two of three post-debate polls -- CNBC and CNN -- declared Rep. Paul Ryan the winner of last night's vice presidential debate. A CBS poll gave the advantage to Vice President Joe Biden. But the vice president is getting a lot of flak for his demeanor. Consider some of these remarks:
CNN's Gloria Borger: "He was condescending at times to Paul Ryan. I think I could have done with a lot less eye-rolling and chuckling on the part of Joe Biden."
Fox's Chris Wallace: "I don't believe I've ever seen a debate in which one participant was as openly disrespectful of the other as Biden was to Paul Ryan tonight. It was openly contemptuous and disrespectful."
Fox's Brit Hume: "It looked like a cranky old man to some extent debating a polite young man."
NBC's David Gregory: "The smile, the laugh. I think a lot of people maybe view that and think that he was a little too hot, too aggressive, maybe condescending."
The Republican National Committee seized on Biden's over-the-top antics and released a web ad titled, "Laughing At The Issues." The tag line is great: "Vice President Biden is laughing ... are you?" And when Biden wasn't laughing at Paul Ryan, he was interrupting him. Biden interrupted Ryan 82 times during a 90-minute debate!
A number of our loyal readers have shared a verse from Proverbs with me, which sums up last night's debate well, "If a wise man has an argument with a fool, the fool only rages and laughs, and there is no quiet."
Romney And The Grahams
Governor Mitt Romney met with legendary evangelist Billy Graham and his son Franklin Graham yesterday. The men discussed religious freedom issues at home and religious persecution abroad. At the end of their time together, Reverend Billy Graham told Governor Romney, "I'll do all I can to help you."
This meeting, four weeks away from the election, sends a clear signal to America's evangelical community. While the Grahams and Gov. Romney disagree on theology, they share much when it comes to values and public policy, especially compared to the current occupant of the Oval Office, who is trying to redefine marriage, promoting abortion-on-demand and using the power of big government to force religious institutions and Christian businesses to violate their values.
Speaking Of Marriage And Religious Liberty...
Dr. Angela McCaskill is the latest victim in the left's cultural jihad against our traditional values.
Dr. McCaskill is the first deaf African-American woman to earn a Ph.D. from Gallaudet University, a tremendous institution for hearing impaired-students. Dr. McCaskill has served for 23 years as Gallaudet University's chief diversity officer. But her career is at stake. She was suspended by the university this week when it was reported that she had signed a petition in support of normal marriage.
No one is accusing her of failing to do her job. Many gay students praised her work. But signing a petition at church one Sunday is evidently enough to put her decades-long career in jeopardy. Apparently Gallaudet has little tolerance for diversity when it comes to matters of faith. Once again, we are seeing how homosexual rights trumps all else in the liberal pecking order, even faith, race and privacy.
My friends, do not fall for the liberal lie that same-sex "marriage" won't affect you. Just ask Angela McCaskill.

Then share this message with your friends and family members. Remind them that the people of 31 states have voted overwhelmingly to protect normal marriage, but Barack Obama wants to force same-sex "marriage" on every state in the union. Encourage them to use their vote this November to defend our freedoms, including religious liberty, by voting for the Romney/Ryan ticket.

SCOTUS Likely to Strike Racial Preferences in University Admissions

Government preferring one racial group over another in college admissions may be about to end, in what would be a historic move by the Supreme Court. Chief Justice John Roberts said that Supreme Court precedent requires that "there has to be a logical end point to your use of race. What is the logical end point? When will I know that you've reached a critical mass?" The government's inability to answer that question might mean that the end point will come in a few months when the Court hands down its decision.
Abigail Fisher was denied admission to the University of Texas in 2008. Since she didn't qualify for automatic admissions offered for any Texas high school student graduating in the top 10% of her class, she instead competed against the general applicant pool, in which members of two racial groups were given a preference over her as a white woman. She sued, alleging that this affirmative-action program is reverse discrimination forbidden by the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution's Fourteenth Amendment.

Who needs the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), when you have Rush Limbaugh? Limbaugh predicted almost a year ago that the unemployment rate reported last Friday would fall below 8% for the first time since Obama entered office. Limbaugh by his own admission is no economist. So how did he know? Maybe because we are in the realm of politics now, rather than economics.
How Stupid Do They Think We Are? The BLS reported last Friday that the economy in September created all of 114,000 net new jobs, just 104,000 in the private sector. To give you some context for how great that is, the working age population increased by 206,000 in September. With a labor force participation rate normal for the fourth year of a recovery (where we are right now), just keeping pace with that population growth would require 138,000 new jobs, before we can even start to reduce the unemployment rate.
Last week, both left and right agreed that the debate was a wash for President Obama. This week, the most agreement was that the sparring between Vice President Joe Biden and VP candidate Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), was a real debate complete with emotion, interruptions, accusations, stat-dropping, and -- in the "Big Bird moment" of this debate -- the smiling.
The America of 2012 is not the America of 2008. If Barack Obama wins this election, the America of 2016 will resemble the beaten and bankrupt countries of Western Europe more than it will the America we grew up in.
Another Middle Eastern "drone war" has been growing. This war is part of the broader conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, now taking on an unmanned approach -- pitting Iran and its proxies using drone aircraft against their enemies, and also against Western drones.
The image that almost immediately came to mind during the debate was that of the berserker. The Roman method for handling a berserker attack was to receive their charge and defeat them in depth. It's not clear that Ryan accomplished that, but that may have essentially been his goal.

They reacted instantly to the debate last night, providing policy research on the multitude of questions raised by moderator and ABC News correspondent Martha Raddatz. Below are some of the highlights of our experts' reactions to the major issues addressed.

Joker Joe thought the whole night was hilarious
Conventional wisdom says that vice presidential debates don't move the needle in elections, and last night's debate was probably no exception. That said, Thursday night's debate couldn't have contrasted two more different candidates. Paul Ryan, the respectful, serious and earnest policy wonk, against Joe Biden, who behaved like a drunken clown and a jerk and paid due homage to the mascot of the Democrat Party -- the Jackass.
On substance, Ryan held his own against Vice President Chuckles, despite having to face a second debate opponent in "moderator" Martha Raddatz of ABC News. Yet on style, whether the subject was the terrorist attack on our Libyan embassy, the ailing economy or abortion, Biden smiled, laughed, sneered, rolled his eyes and strategically interrupted Ryan every time the congressman hit his stride on an answer. And if it wasn't Biden interrupting, it was Raddatz.
Biden is obviously a disciple of Saul Alinksy, who in his "Rules for Radicals," Rule No. 5, said, "Ridicule is man's most potent weapon. It is almost impossible to counterattack ridicule. Also it infuriates the opposition, who then react to your advantage." Clearly, the Obama team decided that the president's failure last week was that he was "too polite," and that Biden had to use ridicule to shore up their anxious base. The result was appalling, but then again, Biden has been rehearsing his socialist obfuscation and diversion in Washington for 40 years.

According to OneNewsNow.com, Gallaudet University President Alan Hurwitz has placed chief diversity officer, Dr. Angela McCaskill, on paid leave because she signed a petition, while at church, to put the one man, one woman marriage issue on the Maryland ballot.
"This is one of those things where because she simply signed the petition, already she is being victimized, and she has been suspended from her position right now," Derek McCoy of the Maryland Marriage Alliance notes.
"We just see that this is another one of those tacks where if somebody voices their opinion on marriage, they get villainized and also ostracized out of society and [told] 'You can't do that; you can't support marriage being between one man and one woman.'"
The petition McCaskill signed was successful, which means Maryland voters will decide in the November election whether to reject a bill passed by lawmakers that legalizes same-sex "marriage."
Dr. McCaskill serves as the school's chief diversity officer, and is. according to the university's website, the first deaf African American woman to earn a Ph.D. from Gallaudet.

What the heck-if the European Union can win the Nobel Peace Prize (can we have a sequel to "We Are the World" at the presentation ceremony-please, oh, please?), then can the coveted Power Line Green Weenie Award be given to a group instead of an individual or single organization? Yes we can!-as a certain contemporary figure likes to say (or used to like to say, until it became apparent that "No he can't," at least when it comes to safeguarding our diplomats or debating Mitt Romney). Our green weenie winner this week is . . . the Climate Campaign.
Now, I know I declared climate change to be the Dead Parrot Sketch of American politics last year, and downgraded my Power Line coverage of the issue appropriately, but sometimes a news story is just too juicy to pass up. The news out of the Met Office in England, one of the official keepers of the global warming faith, that global temperatures continue to be flat, and that there has been no rising temperature trend for 18 years now, ought to just about inter the parrot once and for all. From the Daily Mail story today:
The world stopped getting warmer almost 16 years ago, according to new data released last week.
The figures, which have triggered debate among climate scientists, reveal that from the beginning of 1997 until August 2012, there was no discernible rise in aggregate global temperatures.
This means that the 'plateau' or 'pause' in global warming has now lasted for about the same time as the previous period when temperatures rose, 1980 to 1996. Before that, temperatures had been stable or declining for about 40 years.
The new data, compiled from more than 3,000 measuring points on land and sea, was issued quietly on the internet, without any media fanfare, and, until today, it has not been reported.
This stands in sharp contrast to the release of the previous figures six months ago, which went only to the end of 2010 - a very warm year.
Ending the data then means it is possible to show a slight warming trend since 1997, but 2011 and the first eight months of 2012 were much cooler, and thus this trend is erased.

Now, I've been wondering where the Green Weenie Hall of Fame will be located, and it looks like it should go in California, which, let's face it, practically invented Green Weenieism. Notwithstanding the collapsing soufflé of catastrophic global warming, California is barreling ahead with its plant to install socialism in one state solve climate change in one state, with its own cap and trade program starting in January. The New York Times reports today:
The risks for California are enormous. Opponents and supporters alike worry that the program could hurt the state's fragile economy by driving out refineries, cement makers, glass factories and other businesses. Some are concerned that companies will find a way to outmaneuver the system, causing the state to fall short of its emission reduction targets.
California aims to lower its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions back to 1990 levels over the next eight years. Hmmm, curious: in many parts of the country, GHG emissions are falling so fast that we're almost back to 1990 levels already (a nasty recession helps-oops, did I day that?), because cheap natural gas is displacing coal without any regulatory program whatsoever. So won't California go this way, too? Nope: California last had a coal-fired power plant inside its borders back around the time of the Boer War. It has had a low-GHG emissions profile for a long time, the byproduct of efforts to curb conventional air pollution. No coal plants to shut down. California's per capital GHG emissions were already more than one-quarter below the national average (much of this difference is climate related, along with chasing out energy-intensive heavy industry like aerospace in the 1990s). Nice of California to be willing to sacrifice so much for the rest of country, not to mention the world. The Green Weenie Hall of Fame will likely be the only growth industry in the state over the next decade.
We went to see the film Argo last night. The film takes us back to the Iranian hostage crisis of 1979 for a sidebar ("the Canadian caper") regarding the rescue of six State Department employees who had escaped from the American embassy at the time of the embassy's takeover. The true story of their return from Tehran to the United States courtesy of the CIA was declassified by President Clinton in 1997.
The film comes wrapped with a canned liberal history of the rise of the Ayatollah at the outset (Joe Morganstern finds it "lucid") and an audio voiceover by President Carter (who authorized the audacious removal operation) over the credits. Each is grating in its own way, but mercifully brief. The incredible story told by the film in between is a heart-stopper that reignites all the emotions we felt during the hostage crisis and feel again, if to a lesser extent, today.
Here is the spine of the true story that the film depicts:
Using a Canadian alias and passport, Mendez created a fake movie production company called Studio Six. He made up a movie poster for a fictitious film, and even took out ads in Hollywood trade papers, announcing the production. Then he flew to Iran with six fake Canadian passports and a risky plan. Keeping in mind the potential worst case scenario-should everybody be caught, "obviously it would go badly for us." Mendez disguised the American diplomats as Canadian filmmakers looking to make a movie in Iran.
I came away from the film with deep gratitude to the government of Canada in general and to Canadian Ambassador Ken Taylor in particular for their part in the operation, as well as to the indomitable Mendez. For more on the Canadian angle, see here.
This is the rare kind of film that the audience applauds at the end (as ours did last night at the Grandview in St. Paul). Although the film alters and gilds the true story to enhance the drama of the escape, I highly recommend it. (My heading for this post is a variation of the film's recurring catchphrase: "Argo f*** yourself.")
We are wrapping up an enjoyable trip to the East Coast, starting on Wednesday when we flew to New York for PJ Media's Duranty Prize dinner, which I reported on here. We stayed at the Union League Club, a fine old institution. I took this photo of my youngest daughter in the club's Lincoln Room, which features portraits of all the presidents. Well, not quite all the presidents: just the Republicans, from Lincoln through Bush II, plus George Washington:
On Thursday we took the Dartmouth Coach from New York to Hanover, an easy (if drowsy) five-hour ride. I was at Dartmouth for a semi-annual meeting of the Board of Visitors of the Nelson Rockefeller Center for the Study of Public Policy, one of many excellent reasons to attend Dartmouth. We heard from a number of students, who were outstanding. And we had lunch with Scott's youngest, now a sophomore, who is also outstanding. Yesterday afternoon's football game didn't turn out so well, however; Dartmouth lost to Sacred Heart, a school we didn't play back in the day and which, frankly, I hadn't heard of. Oh well. At least we beat Yale.
It is unseasonably cold in Hanover, and there was frost on the Green yesterday morning:
Walking around the campus, I was struck by the lack of evidence that an election season is in progress. We did see this Romney-Ryan sign in a dorm window:
It is good to know that students think they can support a Republican without risking excessive retaliation. We haven't seen a single sign, or anything else, for Obama, which tends to confirm my impression that the thrill is gone.
Today we will hang around the library for a while and then catch the Coach back to Logan Airport for the trip home. It is always great to spend a few days in Hanover.
Sean Smith was a foreign service information management officer who was killed along with Ambassador Stevens and two other Americans during the 9/11 assault on our consulate in Benghazi. John's post with the State Department account of the assault contains an excruciating account that appears to detail how he died during the attack.
Last week Sean Smith's mother, Pat Smith, appeared on Anderson Cooper's CNN show to complain that she was tired of being lied to and stonewalled by the Obama administration regarding her son's death (transcript here, video below).
At the Weekly Standard site, Daniel Halper has posted another video of Mrs. Smith making her plea for an authoritative account of what happened to her son.
The State Department has released a transcript of a briefing that two high-ranking department officials gave to a number of reporters via conference call on October 9 (Tuesday). I am not certain about this, but I believe the transcript was only made public today. You should read it in its entirety; it is the most detailed description I have seen of the events in Benghazi on September 11.
While this is by no means clear, it appears that the State Department may have released the transcript as part of the escalating conflict between Barack Obama and Joe Biden and the Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. In their desperation to avoid responsibility for the Benghazi debacle, Obama and Biden have pointed fingers in two directions: at the intelligence community for reporting incorrectly that the incident was a protest over a YouTube video clip, and at the State Department for not providing adequate security for the Ambassador.
Here are some excerpts from the narrative:
A few minutes later - we're talking about 9 o'clock at night - the Ambassador retires to his room, the others are still at Building C, and the one agent in the [Tactical Operations Center]. At 9:40 p.m., the agent in the TOC and the agents in Building C hear loud noises coming from the front gate. They also hear gunfire and an explosion. The agent in the TOC looks at his cameras - these are cameras that have pictures of the perimeter - and the camera on the main gate reveals a large number of people - a large number of men, armed men, flowing into the compound. One special agent immediately goes to get the Ambassador in his bedroom and gets Sean, and the three of them enter the safe haven inside the building. ...
They turn around immediately and head back - or the two of them, from Building B, turn around immediately with their kit and head back to Villa C, where the Ambassador and his colleagues are. They encounter a large group of armed men between them and Building C. I should say that the agent in Building C with the Ambassador has radioed that they are all in the safe haven and are fine. The agents that encounter the armed group make a tactical decision to turn around and go back to their Building B and barricade themselves in there. So we have people in three locations right now.
And I neglected to mention - I should have mentioned from the top that the attackers, when they came through the gate, immediately torched the barracks. It is aflame, the barracks that was occupied by the 17th February Brigade armed host country security team. I should also have mentioned that at the very first moment when the agent in the TOC seized the people flowing through the gate, he immediately hits an alarm, and so there is a loud alarm. He gets on the public address system as well, yelling, "Attack, attack." Having said that, the agents - the other agents had heard the noise and were already reacting.
Okay. So we have agents in Building C - or an agent in Building C with the Ambassador and Sean, we have two agents in Building B, and we have two agents in the TOC. All - Building C is - attackers penetrate in Building C. They walk around inside the building into a living area, not the safe haven area. The building is dark. They look through the grill, they see nothing. They try the grill, the locks on the grill; they can't get through. The agent is, in fact, watching them from the darkness. He has his long gun trained on them and he is ready to shoot if they come any further. They do not go any further.
They have jerry cans. They have jerry cans full of diesel fuel that they've picked up at the entrance when they torched the barracks. They have sprinkled the diesel fuel around. They light the furniture in the living room - this big, puffy, Middle Eastern furniture. They light it all on fire, and they have also lit part of the exterior of the building on fire. At the same time, there are other attackers that have penetrated Building B. The two agents in Building B are barricaded in an inner room there. The attackers circulate in Building B but do not get to the agents and eventually leave.
A third group of attackers tried to break into the TOC. They pound away at the door, they throw themselves at the door, they kick the door, they really treat it pretty rough; they are unable to get in, and they withdraw. Back in Building C, where the Ambassador is, the building is rapidly filling with smoke. The attackers have exited. The smoke is extremely thick. It's diesel smoke, and also, obviously, smoke from - fumes from the furniture that's burning. And the building inside is getting more and more black. The Ambassador and the two others make a decision that it's getting - it's starting to get tough to breathe in there, and so they move to another part of the safe haven, a bathroom that has a window. They open the window. The window is, of course, grilled. They open the window trying to get some air in. That doesn't help. The building is still very thick in smoke. ...
Okay. We've got the agent. He's opening the - he is suffering severely from smoke inhalation at this point. He can barely breathe. He can barely see. He's got the grill open and he flops out of the window onto a little patio that's been enclosed by sandbags. He determines that he's under fire, but he also looks back and sees he doesn't have his two companions. He goes back in to get them. He can't find them. He goes in and out several times before smoke overcomes him completely, and he has to stagger up a small ladder to the roof of the building and collapse. He collapses. ...
The agent in the TOC, who is in full gear, opens the door, throws a smoke grenade, which lands between the two buildings, to obscure what he is doing, and he moves to Building B, enters Building B. He un-barricades the two agents that are in there, and the three of them emerge and head for Building C. There are, however, plenty of bad guys and plenty of firing still on the compound, and they decide that the safest way for them to move is to go into an armored vehicle, which is parked right there. They get into the armored vehicle and they drive to Building C.
They drive to the part of the building where the agent had emerged. He's on the roof. They make contact with the agent. Two of them set up as best a perimeter as they can, and the third one, third agent, goes into the building. This goes on for many minutes. Goes into the building, into the choking smoke. When that agent can't proceed, another agent goes in, and so on. And they take turns going into the building on their hands and knees, feeling their way through the building to try to find their two colleagues. They find Sean. They pull him out of the building. He is deceased. They are unable to find the Ambassador. ...
At this point, the quick reaction security team and the Libyans, especially the Libyan forces, are saying, "We cannot stay here. It's time to leave. We've got to leave. We can't hold the perimeter." So at that point, they make the decision to evacuate the compound and to head for the annex. The annex is about two kilometers away. My agents pile into an armored vehicle with the body of Sean, and they exit the main gate. ...
[T]hey take fire almost as soon as they emerge from the compound. They go a couple of - they go in one direction toward the annex. They don't like what they're seeing ahead of them. There are crowds. There are groups of men. They turn around and go the other direction. They don't like what they're seeing in that direction either. They make another u-turn. They're going at a steady pace. There is traffic in the roads around there. This is in Benghazi, after all. Now, they're going at a steady pace and they're trying not to attract too much attention, so they're going maybe 15 miles an hour down the street.
They come up to a knot of men in an adjacent compound, and one of the men signals them to turn into that compound. They agents at that point smell a rat, and they step on it. They have taken some fire already. At this point, they take very heavy fire as they go by this group of men. They take direct fire from AK-47s from about two feet away. The men also throw hand grenades or gelignite bombs under - at the vehicle and under it. At this point, the armored vehicle is extremely heavily impacted, but it's still holding. There are two flat tires, but they're still rolling. ...
As the night goes on, a team of reinforcements from Embassy Tripoli arrives by chartered aircraft at Benghazi airport and makes its way to the compound - to the annex, I should say. And I should have mentioned that the quick reaction - the quick reaction security team that was at the compound has also, in addition to my five agents, has also returned to the annex safely. The reinforcements from Tripoli are at the compound - at the annex. They take up their positions. And somewhere around 5:45 in the morning - sorry, somewhere around 4 o'clock in the morning - I have my timeline wrong - somewhere around 4 o'clock in the morning the annex takes mortar fire. It is precise and some of the mortar fire lands on the roof of the annex. It immediately killed two security personnel that are there, severely wounds one of the agents that's come from the compound.
At that point, a decision is made at the annex that they are going to have to evacuate the whole enterprise. And the next hours are spent, one, securing the annex, and then two, moving in a significant and large convoy of vehicles everybody to the airport, where they are evacuated on two flights.
Barack Obama, meanwhile, was jetting off to Las Vegas for a fundraiser.
It was obvious to the reporters on the call that this narrative blows Obama's evasions sky high:
First question is from the line of Anne Gearan with the Washington Post. Please go ahead.
QUESTION: Hi. You said a moment ago that there was nothing unusual outside, on the street, or outside the gates of the main compound. When did the agents inside - what - excuse me, what did the agents inside think was happening when the first group of men gathered there and they first heard those explosions? Did they think it was a protest, or did they think it was something else?
SENIOR STATE DEPARTMENT OFFICIAL TWO: The agent in the TOC heard the noise, heard the firing. Firing is not unusual in Benghazi at 9:40 at night, but he immediately reacted and looked at his cameras and saw people coming in, hit the alarm. And the rest is as I described it. Does that help?

OPERATOR: The next question is from the line of Brad Klapper with AP. Please, go ahead.
QUESTION: Hi, yes. You described several incidents you had with groups of men, armed men. What in all of these events that you've described led officials to believe for the first several days that this was prompted by protests against the video?
SENIOR STATE DEPARTMENT OFFICIAL TWO: That is a question that you would have to ask others. That was not our conclusion. I'm not saying that we had a conclusion, but we outlined what happened. The Ambassador walked guests out around 8:30 or so, there was no one on the street at approximately 9:40, then there was the noise and then we saw on the cameras the - a large number of armed men assaulting the compound.
So Hillary Clinton and the State Department unequivocally reject the account that Barack Obama and Joe Biden have given. It is hard to imagine what "intelligence" reports Obama could have received that blamed the YouTube video. He is lying, evidently.

Earlier this week I spent some time chatting with Reason magazine's superb science and technology writer, Ron Bailey, about all kinds of things. The short video here (2:30 long) talks about the findings of the Yale Cultural Cognition Project, which throw cold water on the "if only people were more informed" argument. Some types of people get more irrational when they have more information about a subject. (The typology Bailey refers to comes from the late distinguished political scientist Aaron Wildavsky, who thought people's social outlook and risk tolerance could be divided into four basic types: egalitarians, hierarchicalists [someone has to be in charge!], individualists, and communitarians.) We shot the video outside in Bozeman, Montana, so you can hear the low roar of traffic in the background.

Joe Biden got away with a number of whoppers last night, one of them on the enormities committed against religious institutions by Obamacare. Today the Catholic Bishops have issued a statement putting the lie to Biden's whopper:
Last night, the following statement was made during the Vice Presidential debate regarding the decision of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to force virtually all employers to include sterilization and contraception, including drugs that may cause abortion, in the health insurance coverage they provide their employees:
"With regard to the assault on the Catholic Church, let me make it absolutely clear. No religious institution-Catholic or otherwise, including Catholic social services, Georgetown hospital, Mercy hospital, any hospital-none has to either refer contraception, none has to pay for contraception, none has to be a vehicle to get contraception in any insurance policy they provide. That is a fact. That is a fact."
This is not a fact. The HHS mandate contains a narrow, four-part exemption for certain "religious employers." That exemption was made final in February and does not extend to "Catholic social services, Georgetown hospital, Mercy hospital, any hospital," or any other religious charity that offers its services to all, regardless of the faith of those served.
HHS has proposed an additional "accommodation" for religious organizations like these, which HHS itself describes as "non-exempt." That proposal does not even potentially relieve these organizations from the obligation "to pay for contraception" and "to be a vehicle to get contraception." They will have to serve as a vehicle, because they will still be forced to provide their employees with health coverage, and that coverage will still have to include sterilization, contraception, and abortifacients. They will have to pay for these things, because the premiums that the organizations (and their employees) are required to pay will still be applied, along with other funds, to cover the cost of these drugs and surgeries.
USCCB continues to urge HHS, in the strongest possible terms, actually to eliminate the various infringements on religious freedom imposed by the mandate.
Some on the left want to compare last night's debate to the 2004 mismatch between Vice President Cheney and John Edwards. As I noted before the debate, there is a superficial similarity. In both instances an elderly, highly experienced incumbent vice president squared off against a fresh face. And now that the debate has occurred, I can point to another similarity - like Cheney, I believe that Biden rallied a base that was demoralized by a poor debate performance from the president.
But the similarities end there. In his debate with Edwards, Cheney was nothing like Biden. He conducted himself with dignity and reserve, even when Edwards tried to bring the homosexuality of one of Cheney's daughters into the discussion.
Moreover, Ryan was nothing like the cloying, transparently phony Edwards. Sure, Ryan missed some opportunities and failed to match Biden's force of personality. But Ryan showed good command of substance across a wide range of issues including foreign policy. Unlike Edwards, he was not just another pretty face.
To find the closest analogy to last night's VP debate, I look all the way back to the very first one - the 1976 encounter between Walter Mondale and Robert Dole. In that debate, Mondale was the earnest, fresh looking candidate and Dole was the worldly, knowing cynic.
Early in the debate, I thought Dole was winning. Several times, as I recall, he used his dagger wit to puncture Mondale and knock him off of his high horse.
But as the debate progressed, Dole's tone seemed to override his debating skill. In fairness, Dole didn't indulge in overt sneering and jeering, the way Biden did last night. But his digs became tiresome, and his bad mood became mildly disturbing. To use the parlance of the time, Dole was a bummer.
As for Mondale, he just kept coming. Ryan did, as well. If anything, his game improved in the final half hour.
As I recall, the 1976 debate was widely viewed as a win for Mondale. In part, this was because, as his mood worsened, Dole attacked the Democrats for "their" wars, mentioning not just Vietnam and Korea, but also World War I and II (in which Dole was severely injured).
Biden, of course, made no such gaffe. But for many, his demeanor was a bummer. At a minimum, I imagine that, no matter what you have to say in a debate, it's difficult to be seen as the winner when your behavior is as obnoxious and your tone as bitter as Biden's was last night.
Score this for Ryan: I'm certain that it was Biden's plan to try to get under Ryan's skin, drive Ryan off his core strength (his passionate wonkiness), cause him to make a mistake, lose his composure, or look too young and unready for high office. Biden utterly failed to do this. Ryan kept his cool throughout. I hate ever to agree with David Gergen, but Ryan won on style points. And style points count for a lot in these things.
Despite the obvious asymmetries between the two men that had conservative hearts palpitating that Ryan would crush the egregious Biden, I never saw it that way for a simple reason: the format of these debates is not congenial to Ryan's strength as a wonk and an intellectual. If this was a formal Lincoln-Douglas style debate with set piece opening arguments and extended substantive rebuttals, it would be a different matter. Add to it the dynamic of last week's debate face plant by Obama, and it was a sure thing that Biden would be at his egregious worst and that the media would run with the narrative that Biden had "turned things around" no matter how it went. As such, there were high risks in attempting to match Biden's aggressiveness. Ryan was well-served by "staying within himself," as they say in sports contexts.
While Ryan missed some opportunities (though not all of them-Ryan's line that "You of all people should know that words sometimes don't come out right" got the biggest laugh of the night from the audience), it would have been a mistake to lower himself to Biden's level. Most of the early snap polls showed that Biden's antics didn't play well, especially with women. Peggy Noonan's assessment seems to strike the right balance. Try this thought experiment: suppose Biden had conducted himself with more dignity and grace? Ryan's narrower range would have been a much bigger problem. It's almost as though Ryan and his team recognized that rope-a-dope was the best strategy.
Vice Presidential debates never seem to matter much, though that's what the experts say about presidential debates, too, and just as this year's first presidential debate seems to be quite significant, perhaps the VP debate will have slightly more effect than in the past, too. In this respect, think back for a moment to the first Bush-Kerry debate in 2004, where Bush is widely thought to have performed very poorly. True, but Kerry committed a key blunder in that debate with his remark that U.S. action in the world had to pass a "global test." That was a gaffe that festered as the days went on and came back to haunt Kerry. Likewise last night, Biden's behavior will fester for a while (watch for how the comics treat it the next few days), and moreover, his early statement that they had bad intelligence about events in Benghazi (throwing U.S. intelligence under the bus, as Steve Hayes rightly puts it) is likely to unravel.
So was Biden really trying to outdo Al Gore with his debate performance? Perhaps Biden, a lifelong political hack, has Gore envy in more ways than one, and is already practicing investment hedging, looking past a prospective election loss to a post-VP career as a crony capitalist.
Today, several of those clean tech firms are thriving, including a solar energy start-up and a Spanish utility company that has dotted rural America with hundreds of wind turbines.
Al Gore is thriving, too.
The man who was within sight of the presidency 12 years ago has transformed himself, becoming perhaps the world's most renowned crusader on climate change and a highly successful green-tech investor. Just before leaving public office in 2001, Gore reported assets of less than $2 million; today, his wealth is estimated at $100 million.
But there's this one little inconvenient detail a little lower down in the story:
Fourteen green-tech firms in which Gore invested received or directly benefited from more than $2.5 billion in loans, grants and tax breaks, part of President Obama's historic push to seed a U.S. renewable-energy industry with public money. . .
Gore's investments coincided with the government's largest investment in clean tech. A full 10 percent, estimated at $80 billion to $90 billion, of the 2009 stimulus package was devoted to clean energy. . . Several companies in Gore's portfolio emerged as winners. Of the 11 companies he mentioned in his 2008 slide show, nine received or directly benefited from stimulus or clean energy funding.
That's not just "seeding" green energy; that's burying it in fertilizer and watering it nonstop. Pretty easy to make money when you have the government backing you up. Just ask Big Bird.
The Post also missed some of Gore's big green misses. For this, turn to Bill Gunderson of TheStreet.com, who has the skinny on one Gore investment the Post ignored:
Three years ago, First Solar seemed on its way: Interest in solar was at an all-time-high - as were subsidies for making, installing and using it. So America's largest manufacturer of solar equipment seemed ready to cash in.
So did Generation Investment. According to SEC filings, Gore's company bought 440,000 shares in late 2010 at about $130. By the first quarter of 2012, the value of First Solar - and just about every other solar manufacturer in America - had plummeted.
Generation Investment rode it all the way down, buying more and more shares as the price went lower and lower until finally it reached $25 in the first quarter of 2012. Generation Investment was holding 1.1 million shares worth about $28 million.
All this despite $3 billion in loan guarantees that kept many analysts talking about its great future. But the stock was always more popular with true believers in solar energy than with people who want to make money.
In the second quarter of this year, Gore et al. finally figured out what I have been saying to my clients, my listeners and my readers for two years: Alternative energy is a terrible investment and "sell everything under the sun." That's why I started shorting First Solar at $121 and kept shorting it all the way down to $33.
This Issue: Open-borders groups having a fit over our new TV ad campaign that compares Black-American joblessness with the level of legal immigration
Our new national TV ad campaign is drawing gasps and sputters all over the internet. One group alone (the pro-amnesty PAC called Immigrants' List) is accusing our ad of sowing "division and fear" and described it as "incendiary" and "gutter politics, pure and simple." The word "evil" also seems to be showing up a lot on the internet as proponents of high immigration react to the ad that has been playing before and after the debates and at other times in various locales across the country.
I believe what has them far more worked up than usual is that our ad comparing the numbers of unemployed Black Americans and the numbers of new immigrant workers each year challenges the long-cul tivated image that high immigration is THE compassionate and moral policy.
Most advocates of high immigration pose as especially concerned about our country's ethnic minorities and about the poor. But when we cite unemployment statistics for America's minorities while noting how many foreign workers are being added to compete with them, that really threatens the whole facade of morality that has been built around immigration policies that are disproportionately hurting the poor, especially poor minorities.

Why are we focusing on Black Americans even though we are concerned equally for all Americans regardless of race or ethnicity? You can read more on my blog, but here's a short answer.
A key point is that U.S. House Republican leaders, and U.S. Senate Democratic leaders, and Pres. Obama have shown no sign of interest in protecting 20 million Americans in the broader "U6" unemployment category from unnecessary competition from either legal or illegal immigration. They have shown zero interest in any of the bills that would at least have reduced the numbers and the competition.
So, to try another way to get the attention of the politicians, we are highlighting the worst unemployment in America. It isn't just that Black Americans have the worst jobless rates but that the problem often is so geographically concentrated that it brings down whole communities.
When I told a TV station in Baltimore this morning that 20% of Black Americans who want a full-time job can't find one, I also noted that the situation is far worse for those who are under the age of 30. The unemployment rate for younger Black Americans is:
about 25% for those with some college.
about 40% for those with a high school degree.
more than 60% for those without a high school degree.
Keep in mind that this doesn't count all those who have totally left the labor market. The jobless rates are for those who WANT a job. They WANT to work. They WANT to provide for themselves and not depend on others and the government. But their government insists on importing around a hundred thousand new foreign workers each month instead.
In our ad, a Black father says he is tired of the stereotype that une mployed people like himself don't want to work. Some of our opponents are saying the ad is racist in having the father ask why the government brings in a million new immigrant workers a year while 3 million Black Americans are unemployed.
The fact is that we could run a similar ad with an Hispanic American, dealing with jobless rates that are nearly as bad as for Black Americans. And we could also run an ad for White Americans whose jobless rate is not nearly so astronomical but is unacceptably high, nonetheless. What we want to know is how people will react to the worst numbers out there. Can they really justify why they support bringing in another million immigrant workers next year? Can they do it from a basis of moral superiority?

Obama Administration Ignored Threats to Border Agents, Police in Wilderness Areas
Kimberly Dvorak from The Examiner reports that the Obama Administration ignored multiple warnings by Border Patrol Agents and local police that said a wilderness reserve plan would result in national security breaches and deaths. The murder of Agent Brian Terry and the death of Agent Nicolas Ivie now "officially" ruled a killing by "friendly fire" subsequently occurred in such wilderness areas.

As part of a lawsuit settlement, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez's Administration will discontinue a program that cancels the driver's licenses of illegal aliens who fail to prove state residency. Gov. Martinez plans to push the legislature again next year to change the law that gives licenses to resident illegal aliens - a matter of increasing importance given the looming federal deadline for compliance with the REAL ID Act.

Why our ad campaign focuses on Black joblessness
NumbersUSA is stirring up a whirlwind of interest, gasping, attaboying and disgust with our national TV ad campaign asking why our government adds another million permanent foreign workers each year while more than 3 million Black Americans who want a full-time job can't find one. I drove up to Baltimore -- a stronghold of Black unemployment -- early this morning to do some TV interviews about why we are doing this.
Many of us may remember playing with plastic army persons during our youth. Well, progressive science has since discovered that this game was a ploy to instill patriarchal hegemony in male child-persons, encouraging their feelings of violence and aggression towards diverse cultures. In order to educate the new generation of state's mini-adults about the concept of a modern, correct-thinking army, the UN in association with the Obama Administration have created a revised set of plastic army persons for use in state-authorized play activities.
President Obama got absolutely crushed in the first debate and many on the left were very upset he didn't bring up Romney's 47% line that MSNBC made such a big deal out of. So it was no surprise when Biden brought it up - but Ryan was ready and had an epic response. See the response plus Biden's weird reaction to it that dug the hole even deeper.

Line of the night - Ryan hits Biden on gaffes
DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz described the Medicare reforms proposed by GOP Vice-Presidential nominee and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) as "literally a death trap for seniors." White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters that Ryan's reforms would "change Medicare as we know it."
But it was Obamacare that already changed Medicare as we know it, transforming it literally into a death trap for seniors. Obamacare cut Medicare by $716 billion over the next 10 years alone, mostly by slashing Medicare payments to doctors and hospitals. And that is just a down-payment on what is to come.
