Can you believe it's November already? Before we know it Christmas and World Juniors will be here!
What a busy first week of November! Five (5) BC players competed with Team Canada at the World U17 Hockey Challenge in Sarnia, Ontario and Kamloops hosted the 4 Nations Cup & Century Tour, which has now made it's way to Kelowna.
As always, there are associations and players across the province making names for themselves and giving back to the community.
We are always looking to hear from you! Does your association have an upcoming event that the membership should know about? Or have you recently hosted an exciting event and want to tell us about it?
Please send your story/event to firstname.lastname@example.org.

|REINHART BROTHERS & LAZAR MAKE NHL DEBUTS

Griffin laced up for the New York Islanders in their season opener against Carolina Hurricanes.
Sam skated with the Buffalo Sabres as they took on Columbus Blue Jackets.
Curtis played with the Ottawa Senators against the Nashville Predators in their season opener.
|GIVING UNTIL IT HURTS
Dave Smith, general manager of the Kimberley Dynamiters of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, knows how thoughtful and caring his sister-in-law Shari is, so he wasn't surprised when she went the extra mile for his team.
Shari was in town for a 10 day visit from Ontario and attended one of the Dynamiters home games on her second day in Kimberley. She was so impressed with how hard the players train and play that she wanted to do something nice for them.
Dave suggested that with the winter quickly approaching the boys could benefit from team winter toques. Shari went right to work! She printed off a pattern, purchased the yarn and began to crochet 23 hats. While visiting and going on daily sight seeing outings, she still managed to complete the project and give them to the players prior to one of their games.
"Shari has always been the most caring and kind person my wife and I know," said Smith. "She's a wife, a mother to four (4) boys, a nurse and a part time ski instructor. This doesn't slow down her desire to make others happy."
All the players were impressed and grateful for her gift. Each hat took approximately three (3) hours to mak, so needless to say, that after almost 70 hours of crocheting in one (1) week, she went home with very fatigued, sore hands, but an equally warm heart!
|GOLD RIVER COMES TOGETHER FOR KIDS HELP PHONE
The Gold River Minor Hockey Association is an association on the west coast of Vancouver Island, with approximately 60 registrants from the Initiation to Midget level.
At the end of September, players and parents of the association organized and participated in a bottle drive that raised $1,800!
The association's executive firmly believes in giving back and providing for kids of all ages and backgrounds. In saying this, the executive feels strongly and is very supportive of the Kids Help Phone Line. Their wish is to increase the awareness of this very beneficial service, so that kids who wish to use it have great accessibility to it.
Gold River MHA proudly donated all monies raised from the fundraising event to the Kids Help Phone Line.
Congratulations to everyone who was a part of this successful event!

|RICHMOND REFEREE CLINIC
The Richmond Minor Hockey Association has already produced one of the top National Hockey League referees in Kelly Sutherland. So why not produce more officials of this calibre? With this lofty goal in mind, Richmond MHA put on a special referee clinic at the end of October. The event was open to all first and second year officials.
A total of 26 prospective young officials registered and turned out to work and learn under the watchful eye and leadership of experienced high level referees (and RMHA alumni) Hasret Sidhu, Ben Kiang and Duncan Brow.
The clinic was organized by Richmond MHA referee scheduler Don Mathewson and overseen by referee-in-chief, Dwayne Shigeoka.
The group participated in a number of different drills emphasizing skating and positioning techniques. It takes a very strong and dedicated individual to become a good hockey official. Richmond MHA is optimistic all these young candidates will do just that!

It's when kids make friendships that last a lifetime. When they learn to work together, support each other and have fun - on the ice and off. The 5th Season is when kids learn valuable lessons that go beyond the game."
