What an exciting time of year! Not only here in BC, but across the country and around the world as hockey season officially kicks off! It's like Christmas Eve for some as the NHL teams start their push for the coveted Stanley Cup tomorrow.

Last month there were a couple big announcements for BC players, the new BC Hockey website was launched and BC Coaches Week and the Yukon Super Clinic took place. As we look forward, World Girls Hockey Weekend is fast approaching and International eyes will be on Kamloops as the city prepares for the 4 Nations Cup.

We are always looking to hear from you!  Does your association have an upcoming event that the membership should know about? Or have you recently hosted an exciting event and want to tell us about it?

Please send your story/event to [email protected].

Enjoy!
NEW WEBSITE LAUNCHEDNEWWEBSITE

After months of planning and development, we finally launched our new website last week! The sleek and stylish new look with enhanced navigation was designed to make the site more user-friendly and encourage user interaction.

Aside from the new layout and menus, some of the other changes include:
  • Expanded content to include a more interactive experience for members through photo's, videos, contests and social media
  • Quick and easy access to the information you are looking for
  • Better layout with improved functionality
  • Useful and Quick links
As part of the vision of the Governance Review Committee, new pages on Governance Review have been added to the website. They have been added to ensure appropriate accountability and decision making while the committee continues to review governance.

In celebration of the launch, we are giving away BC Hockey Swag Bags! It's easy to enter:

1. Search the BC Hockey website for a smaller version of the Team BC jersey (pictured right)

2. Click on it

3. Complete the form, providing feedback if you would like, and you're entered!

We hope you like the new site!

We had some amazing nominations! There are truly awesome, dedicated, self-less coaches across the province!

In the end, there could only be three (3) winners. Congratulations to:

Coach Carter - Kamloops MHA
Coach Greg - Nelson MHA
Coach JJ - Fort St. James MHA

Thank you to everyone who told us Why Their Coach Rocks!
YUKON SUPER CLINIC

A Super Clinic was held at the Canada Games Centre in Whitehorse, Yukon on September 26 - 28, 2014.  Presented by the Whitehorse Minor Hockey Association, over 30 referees were certified in HCOP Levels I and II, and approximately 30 coaches were Development 1 and Coach 2 - Coach Level certified over the weekend.

Participants traveled from all over the territory to participate in the event, and BC Hockey President, Randy Henderson, traveled to Whitehorse and observed the clinic, also taking part in a lively Town Hall meeting.

KAMLOOPS: CANADA'S TOURNAMENT CAPITALKAMLOOPS

As Kamloops prepares to host the 4 Nations Cup next month, the city will have another opportunity to be in the international spot light as the city has been selected to host the 2016 IIHF Women's World Championship in April 2016.

"We are thrilled to be the host for such a prestigious event," said Peter Milobar, mayor of the City of Kamloops.

Not only is this exciting for Kamloops, but also for BC and the growth of female hockey in the province. BC Hockey continues to see more and more players invited to Hockey Canada events, camps and competitions.

The 4 Nations Cup welcomes the top women's teams from Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States, November 4 - 8, 2014.  Tickets and ticket packages are still available. Please visit the Hockey Canada website for more information
