MAKING DREAMS COME TRUEDreams

The Hockey Canada Foundation's Dreams Come True Program visited the Richmond Oval on August 23, 2014, bringing with it brand-new equipment and registration fees for every participant, who ranged in age from six (6) to 15 years old.

The smiles on these children's faces was priceless! It was an amazing day for everyone involved - one that the children will never forget!

Thank you to the Hockey Canada Foundation for putting smiles on everyone's faces & making the dreams of 37 kids come true!

Here's a inspirational and moving video re-capping the event:

ICE BUCKET CHALLENGEIBC

By now it's safe to say that everyone has heard of "The Ice Bucket Challenge" - the challenge that is sweeping through social media and taking the world by storm. The challenge raises money for the ALS foundation which has seen a very impressive 3,000% jump in donations over the same period last year!

Many hockey teams/players have taken part - did you see Trevor Linden dump the bucket of ice water over his head on a lake dock? What about Paul Bissonnette's epic helicopter pour?

Well it's no different here in BC! Numerous teams and players have been nominated and dared to accept and complete the challenge.

The Columbia Valley Rockies were one of those teams!

Good luck to the rest of the KIJHL teams & we look forward to seeing your videos!

COMPASSION, CLASS AND OUTSTANDING SPORTSMANSHIPcompassion

While participating at the Bremerton Tournament, Abbotsford Midget C5 team and Langley Midget C4 team found themselves in the final game battling for the Championship.  The game required extra time and eventually Abbotsford was crowned the champions after winning in a shoot out.  Gloves and sticks covered one end of the ice as Abbotsford celebrated their victory.  At the other end of the ice, extreme disappointment and tears covered the faces of the Langley players.

Not the typical disappointment of this type of loss; their pain was deeper.

While shaking hands and congratulating the Abbotsford captain, the Langley captain disclosed the reason his team had played so passionately during the tournament. Tragically, Langley MHA had just lost a midget-aged player and friend.  The loss was recent and raw; the pain great.  It was Langley's goal to honour their friend withe the championship, but they fell shy......

Both team retreated to their respective dressing rooms. What happened next is truly outstanding!  Abbotsford decided as a team to present Langley with the championship trophy! They believed in their hearts the victory belonged to Langley. The Langley team was surprised and amazed when they opened the door of their dressing room and were presented the Battle of the Sounds Cup by the entire Abbotsford team.  Many tears were shed in this amazing show of humanity as it unfolded between the two teams.

To the team staff of Midget C5:

Your leadership and dedication to youth in the community is rare.  You lead in a way that recognized the value of character development first, hockey second.

To the parents of Midget C5:

You should be very proud of your sons.

To the players of Midget C5:

You are an inspiration for the future!  Continue to grow and foster the traits your coaches and parents have taught you.
