RBC CUP IN VERNON

The top Junior A players in the country gathered in Vernon last month for the 2014 RBC Cup National Championship. Players, officials, family, friends and fans from across country settled in the valley for a week of exciting, fast-paced games watch their team compete for the coveted top prize.

The host Vernon Vipers were joined by four (4) regional representatives: the Carleton Place Canadians from the east, Dauphin Kings (west #2), Toronto Lakeshore Patriots from the central region and the Yorkton Terriers (west #2).

This year marked the tenth appearance for the Vipers, winning six (6) of those championships in 1990, 1991, 1996, 1999, 2009 and 2010. The Vipers played hard in the preliminary round of the tournament, finishing with a 2-2 record and scoring the most goals per team with 13. Unfortunately, they lost a heart breaker to Yorkton 6-3 in the semifinal. The Terriers went on to capture the 2014 RBC Cup with a 4-3 overtime  win over the Canadians.

A BIG thank you to the city of Vernon, the businesses and volunteers who all contributed countless hours and hard work to make the Championship a huge success!
