BC GIRLS BRING HOME GOLD FROM HUNGARY
Congratulations to the Women's U18 National Team that captured gold at the 2014 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women's World Championship in Budapest, Hungary!

Five (5) players from BC were part of Team Canada:

- Brielle Bellerive (North Vancouver)
- Micah Hart (Saanichton)
- Hannah Miller (Aldergrove)
- Sarah Potomak (Aldergrove)
- Lauren Spring (Kelowna)

Potomak finished at the top of the leaderboard with eight (8) point from five (5) goals and three (3) assists in five (5) games.  Miller netted a goal and an assist, while Hart had an assist.

This is the third straight year Team Canada has taken home gold at the U18 Women's World Championship and fourth overall.

Congrats girls!

LOTS OF FUN WAS HAD AT THE CANUCKS FEMALE JAMBOREE
Over 100 female players aged five (5) to seven (7) from across the province invaded Burnaby Eight Rinks for a fun weekend of games, hockey, new friends and fun! The Jamboree included fun games and contests off the ice, a skills session and four (4) fun games.

The Vancouver Canucks mascot, Fin, joined the girls for the opening ceremonies along with BC Hockey District Director Dave Buck and UBC Thunderbirds player and former Team BC member Stephanie Payne.

Aside from all the high-fives and hugs Fin was giving out, the highlight for the girls was meeting Team Canada Gold Medalist Meghan Agosta! She showed the girls the video her and Team Canada watched before hitting the ice for the gold medal game in Sochi, Russia. Then Meghan spoke on the importance of setting goals and working hard to achieve them and touched on the importance of teamwork and loving the game.

What an inspiration for all the girls! Now they know their dream of playing on Team Canada can come true!

CRANBROOK MHA COMMUNITY RESPONDS BIG TIME DURING CHAMPIONSHIPS

It's 5:00pm on day four (4) of five (5) at the BC Hockey Pee Wee Tier One (1) Championship in Vancouver.  The Cranbrook Eagles have just secured their spot in the Championship game.

They still have one (1) more round robin game at 2:00pm on day five (5), with the final to follow with only a three (3) hour break in between games.

The Eagles head coach, Shaun Bynam, gets on the phone with Cranbrook Pee Wee Tier Three (3) coach, who has just finished playing in their Championship in Nelson, with a call for affiliate players.  Bynam wants to rest his Tier One (1) players for the Championship game. The Cranbrook Minor Hockey Association community responds BIG TIME!

Less than 21 hours later, five (5) affiliate players are on the ice at Thunderbird Stadium, dressed, equipment checked, player contracted, properly ID'd and teeth brushed!

Tell that one to Don Cherry and the Hockeyville gang!
BURNS LAKE PLAYERS MAKE REPEAT CHAMPIONSHIP APPEARANCES

The small town of Burns Lake has been very fortunate to send teams to the Championships year after year. Given the extremely small amount of hockey players in the town, they are proud of the players that have captured multiple medals at the BC Hockey Championships in recent years.

Matt Skinner, Cody Bardarson, Josh Janzen, Shawn Wilson, Logan Gray and Tyler Havens have been playing hockey since the first time they laced up their skates and have a great Championship record! At the Pee Wee Championships in 2009, the team went 7-0-0, winning gold. In their Bantam year in 2011, they went undefeated again, 6-0-0, capturing another gold medal. In their first Midget year in 2013, they came home with silver and this year, the boys won the gold!

Greg Redwood has been to the BC Hockey Championships three (3) times, winning two (2) gold and a silver.

Jarrett Stanyer has won (4) gold, one (1) silver and a third place finish at the BC Hockey Championships.

Jordan Minger and Brian Little have played at five (5) BC Hockey Championships, bringing home three (3) gold, one (1) silver and a third place finish.

Ryan Skinner, Curtis Brown, Bryce Gray and Brock Worthing have all played together through minor hockey and have been to four (4) BC Hockey Championships, winning three (3) gold medals (Pee Wee 2011, Bantam 2012, Midget 2014) and one (1) third place finish (Pee Wee 2010). Skinner and Gray went a fifth time with an older group and won silver.

These players feel so fortunate to have played in numerous BC Hockey Championships as many players never get the chance to go. They are thankful for the quality coaching they have received at Burns Lake Minor Hockey Association both on and off the ice.

The coaches are proud of all the players for their success and growth over the years.
TATE'S BIG NIGHT ON THE BLUE LINE WITH THE VANCOUVER CANUCKS
The dream of every kid playing hockey is to one day make it in the NHL and/or meet their favorite player. Tate had the opportunity to fulfill "Every Kids Dream" to skate with the Vancouver Canucks and join them on the blue line for the National anthem as they took on the Calgary Flames at Rogers Arena.

The whole family traveled from Comox Valley to watch Tate have the thrill of a lifetime and skate with the Canucks. This was Tate's first NHL game, but certainly not his last! "I can't believe how big they are!" said Tate who was a little overwhelmed by all the attention. He is now a very inspired hockey player!

Congratulations Tate and all the kids who realized their dream on the ice with the Vancouver Canucks this season!

Check out more photo's from the Every Kids Dream nights on the BC Hockey Facebook Page!
MAJOR MIDGET PLAYER OF THE MONTH - FEBRUARY
Congratulations to Tyson Jost who was named the Major Midget League Player of the Month for February.  He finished the month with 26 points from 15 goals and 11 assists in eight (8) games! He ended the regular season on top of the leaderboard with 88 points and finished the playoffs with 18 points, again at the top.

February was one of the most dominating months in Okanagan Rockets history. Jost set a league record with 44 goals during the regular season, 15 of which came last month, giving him an average of 3.25 points per game in February.
FEMALE MIDGET AAA PLAYER OF THE MONTH - FEBRUARY
Congratulations to Shannon Morris-Reade who was named Female Midget AAA Player of the Month for February. She recorded six (6) goals and one (1) assist in four (4) games.

"Shannon really stepped up her game and has become an on ice leader for the team," said head coach Dean Reed. "She is an intense player who gives it her all every shift and her play gets better and better every game."
