Greetings!

Many of you will be visiting us tomorrow for Family Weekend and our homecoming football game in beautiful Yulman Stadium.  I've included highlights of the weekend and final instructions for you in the article below.

If your student is returning home for the Thanksgiving Break later in the month, I'm sure you're looking forward to the visit.  If your student is not coming home for the holiday, you may have some concerns.  Since Thanksgiving is such a family-oriented holiday, we know that it may be stressful for both you and your student to experience it apart from each other. Rest assured that the residence halls will be staffed and Tulane police officers will be on duty the whole weekend. While the large dining hall will be closed, other dining facilities will be open each day. (See this page next week for the weekend's hours of operation.) The Student Health Center will be open Wed., Nov. 25, 3:30 am - 5 pm. After 5pm Wednesday until the center reopens Monday at 8:30 am, for acute illnesses, students may call the PHONEMED 24/7 nurse advice line at 855-487-0289.  The library will be open every day but Thursday, and our weekend entertainment shuttle will be operating on Saturday, Nov. 28. Encourage your student to plan ahead, enjoy the time off, rest up for the last week of classes--and maybe get a head start on studying for exams!

Recipes From Home Winner: Cajun Quinoa Cakes

Congratulations to Dean Hanewinckel, father of Emma Hanewinckel from Nokomis, Florida, on winning the annual Recipes from Home contest.  His recipe for Cajun Quinoa Cakes won over the judges.  His recipe will be one of the featured menu items at the Family Weekend Jazz Brunch in Bruff Commons Dining Room on Friday, November 6 from 11 am - 2 pm.   Stop by and taste his winning dish and pick up the recipe to take back home.  The meal is included in the students' meal plan and family guests can just pay $10 at the door.

Sponsored by Tulane Dining Services by Sodexo in conjunction with University Services, this annual contest is open to all parents of Tulane University students. Parents submit their student's favorite recipe from home and have a chance to win a round-trip flight for two with a two-night stay during the annual Family Weekend and have their recipe featured at the Jazz Brunch.

If your student is staying over the break November 25-29, encourage him or her to plan ahead and team up with friends or classmates to make the most of the weekend so they won't get bored or too homesick. Their Resident Advisors can help them network with other students in their halls who are also staying in town.  Encourage your student to attend the Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 5:30 pm in Qatar Ballroom, 212 LBC.  This annual event is sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Office of International Students and Scholars.
Thanks for Giving
Dear Parents,

Thank you for being part of the Tulane family. As you welcome your students home over the holidays, we hope you are proud of what they've accomplished this semester. As parents, you create the foundation for your student's success, and we are very grateful for your involvement and support.

Tulane prides itself on taking a holistic approach to undergraduate education and student development, empowering all students to pursue their passions while also preparing them for life after graduation. The generosity of parents like you is vital to expanding Tulane's career programs, creating life-changing service, internship and study abroad opportunities, and building a community of care and inclusion so that every student finds his or her niche at Tulane. Parents who support Tulane with an annual fund gift directly impact and enhance the student experience.

As we approach Thanksgiving, Tulane is thankful for your generosity and dedicated commitment to your student's education. Have a wonderful holiday season.

Best regards,
Yvette M. Jones
