Main Street (Huntley) Corridor Improvement Update
The Village of Huntley, District 158, and McHenry County officials have recently discussed ways to work together to improve the traffic conditions in and around the Huntley High School Harmony Road Campus. This summer, McHenry County will undertake two construction projects to enhance the safety and operations of Main Street, Marengo Road, Hemmer Road and Harmony Road around the High School Campus. The first project will involve rehabilitating the existing Main Street bridge over the Kishwaukee River. This will require the complete closure of the bridge over the summer. The County is committed to completing the construction during the summer months when school is not in session. A detour will be posted. The second project that will occur around the same time will be the installation of traffic signals at the Main Street/Marengo Road/Hemmer Road and the Hemmer Road/Harmony Road intersections. These traffic signals will greatly enhance the traffic flow to and from the Huntley High School at peak periods.
Lastly, as part of a long term solution to the ability for traffic to move through this area, the County will begin the engineering work necessary to extend Main Street directly west from its current location and connect it directly with Harmony Road in the vicinity of the main entrance to Huntley High School. This connection will eliminate the need to travel through two signalized intersections to reach the High School. The exact timeframe for construction of this improvement has yet to be determined. Additional information will be sent out as it becomes available. A complete map of the current and future Main Street improvements can be found by clicking here. |
Randall Road Update
McHenry County would like to take this opportunity to provide an update on the Randall Road Improvement Project. For the past two and a half months, the Design Team has been actively soliciting input from the stakeholders as part of their efforts in re-evaluating the intersection at Algonquin Road. In an effort to solicit input from the stakeholders, the Design Team mailed an outreach letter and project kick-off flyers to over 100 business and property owners along the corridor. Additionally, the Design Team walked door to door personally handing out this flyer to each business along the corridor, which numbered over 300 businesses. In the letter, the project was re-introduced and stakeholders were asked to contact the Design Team to discuss any questions or concerns. A copy of the project flyer was posted on the project website and on the Facebook page.
Since this initial outreach effort, a number of businesses and entities have contacted the Design Team. To date the Design Team has attended 14 meetings with various stakeholders, with an additional meeting planned for the coming weeks. The intent of the meetings has been to provide current information about the overall project, listen to the stakeholders, and gain an understanding of their operations and concerns. It has been stressed at these meetings that the intersection type has not been determined and that access is being re-evaluated.
While the outreach efforts continue, the Design Team is also currently reviewing updated socioeconomic data that will be used to determine and/or verify future traffic projections. These future traffic projections will be the basis of re-evaluating the intersection alternatives.
Additionally, survey crews have begun working within the corridor to obtain the necessary topographical data necessary as the project moves into final design (known as Phase II). These crews will be working over the next couple of months to complete this task. This topographical data will help to determine the detailed aspects of the design in order to prepare the contract plans required to construct the improvements.
The County will send out additional communications with more specific information as soon as it is available. The County encourages you to visit our project website at: www.RandallRoad.info and sign up for our mailing list or find us on Facebook by clicking here. |
