A message from the Chairwoman...

Tina R. Hill

County Board

Chairwoman

Dear McHenry County Resident:

I would like to wish you a very happy holiday season as we come together once again with family and friends.  Just a little over a year ago, I was selected by my colleagues to serve as the Chairwoman of the McHenry County Board.  I remain grateful and honored to have this responsibility.  While it feels like I only became Chairwoman yesterday, the County has accomplished quite a bit in the past year.   Some of the notable accomplishments include:

- Nine new County Board members were welcomed in 2013.

- The County continues to maintain a strong financial position as our Triple A Bond Rating attests.

- A new three year strategic plan was adopted to help guide the general direction of McHenry County government.

- The County successfully responded to spring floods that resulted in a Presidential Disaster Declaration.

- McHenry County was awarded an A+ Rating from the Sunshine Review Organization for the 3rd consecutive year.

- The County developed a new and robust website that touts an improved navigation feature that has a revamped look and feel.

- Large transportation projects in the County that were completed include Charles J. Miller Road and the full interchange at Route 47/I-90.

- With renovations in the McHenry County Administration Building, the Veteran's Assistance Commission has a more prominent location to welcome home our growing number of veterans returning from service in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In reflection, I am proud of what we have accomplished this year.  We look forward to the challenges we face in 2014 knowing that McHenry County government will continue to provide superior services for our residents and will continue to serve as a model for the sensible and effective management of County government.

On behalf of the entire McHenry County Board, please let me wish you the best of luck in 2014.  Have a Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

Tina R. Hill

Chairwoman

McHenry County Division of Transportation Winter Operations

The McHenry County Division of Transportation (MCDOT) is prepared for the 2013-2014 winter season. Here is some information about our operation and some helpful tips for residents and drivers on our County System.

The MCDOT maintains about 530 lane miles of highway throughout our County. Those roadways are divided into snow routes that average about 28 miles per route. In normal operations the Division dispatches 23 large snow plow trucks to the 19 routes. The DOT can also supplement these routes with several smaller trucks as well. The reason for additional equipment on several of the routes is the expansion of our roadway system from two lane highways to multiple lane roadways mainly in the southeastern portion of our County. Maps of the DOT snow routes can be found on the website. There are two different maps, normal operations and 24 hour operations. In event the event we exceed 16 hours the MCDOT moves to a 24 hour operation this reduces the routes to 14 or less but offers 24 hour coverage...Read More.
