Change is Coming in 2014

"Begin with the end in mind." ~ Dr. Stephen Covey (from the book, "7 Habits of Highly Effective People.")

Every New Year brings with it the opportunity to reimagine your future. We're fortunate to live in a time of unprecedented and exciting technological change, and that spells new opportunities for those who embrace it and are well prepared for it.

What changes will come in 2014? And how can we best prepare for them?

Ask Swami Candela
Swami Candela Dear Swami,

You once mentioned a special section of the National Electrical Code that deals specifically with the entertainment industry, but I've slept since then and now I can remember. Can you refresh my memory?

Signed,

Partly Cloudy in Times Square

Dear Cloudy,

That's why I sleep on a bed of nails. It keeps my mind sharp and my bed sharper. The sections of the Code you are referring to are Article 520 (Theaters, Audience Areas of Motion Picture & Television Studios, Performance Areas, & Similar Locations), Article 525 (Carnivals, Circuses, Fairs, & Similar Events), and Article 530 (Motion Picture & Television Studios & Similar Locations). If you're working in the live event production industry in the US, then you should be familiar with these sections of the NEC.

Dear Swami,

You sometimes end your sentences with a preposition. My English teacher taught me not to do that. Is that wrong?

Signed,

Teacher's Pet

Dear Pet,

As my dear friend Winston Churchill once said when a copy editor changed his prose, "This is the type of arrant pedantry up with which I will not put." When words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup, they slither wildly as they slip away across the universe. At least that's what my friend John Lennon once said.

Jai Guru Deva. Om.

Sincerely,

Swami Candela of the Third Millennium
