At the Tuesday, June 13th Meeting of the City Council/City Council Acting as Successor Agency to the Redevelopment Agency Meeting the Council:
 
  • Proclaimed June 2017 as Immigrant Heritage Month in Oakley
  • Presented the Community Choice Energy Citizen Advisory Committee with proclamations in recognition of their volunteer work
  • Received an update regarding the Oakley Community Library provided by Library Manager, Andrea Freyler
  • Heard an update from the Contra Costa Library Commission Appointee, Arnold Fitzpatrick, Jr.
  • Received an update regarding the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District, by Interim Fire Chief, Brian Helmick

Oakley Movie in the Plaza- Secret Life of Pets   
Join us for the second movie in the Movie in the Plaza series this Saturday, June 17th at Civic Center Plaza with a showing of, "Secret Life of Pets". Movies are shown outdoors and guests may bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the entertainment under the stars. Admission is FREE and the movies will begin approximately 30 minutes after sunset. Snacks and beverages will be for sale at the snack bar. From May to October, we will feature one free movie a month, for a total of six movies as part of the 2017 series. Recreation Division Offering Summer Day Camps 
The Oakley Recreation Division is offering some great summertime fun for the kids at a variety of day camps.  

SUMMER BLAZE DAY CAMP
Ages: 6 - 11 years old
Location: This is an outdoor camp that rotates between three parks in Oakley.
Summer Blaze camp is a "drop-in" program where parents can bring their children on the days of their choosing to give parents the flexibility to plan around vacations and other summer activities. Camp is limited to the first 100 participants each day. Camp will run the following weeks: June 19 - 29, June 26 - 29 (no camp on Friday, June 30), July 10 - 14, and July 17 - 21 and runs weekdays from 11 a.m. - 4.p.m.
The fee is $11/day per child or you may purchase a 5-day punch card for $50.

YMWO! Calls for Volunteers for Citizenship Drive 
Oakley You, Me, We Oakley! in partnership with the International Institute of the Bay Area will be hosting a Citizenship Drive this Saturday, June 17th at the Oakley City Council Chambers at 3231 Main Street in Oakley. Over 40 residents have registered to receive assistance in
confirming their eligibility for U.S. Naturalization and with the application. The YMWO Program is now accepting volunteers for this event. Interested? Please call Gaby at 925-625-7011.

Mail Theft on the Rise Nationwide 
Mail theft has been on the rise nationwide and crooks have become more brazen in their tactics in prying open community mailbox doors to steal mail. The Oakley Police Department is aware of these incidents and have increased their vigilance. Postal officials say they are working to find solutions to help address the problem as well. Neighbors with cameras on the boxes is one deterrent.

3rd Annual Main Street Car Show & Concert 
The 3rd Annual Main Street Car Show and Concert will take place on Saturday, July 29th  from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Civic Center Plaza.  All years, makes and models of cars and trucks are eligible.  The entry fee is $25 and includes a t-shirt and goody bag.  Space is limited and pre-registration is highly recommended.  Same day entries will only be taken if space permits.  Entry forms are available at City Hall and at Les Schwab Tires at 89 Carol Lane in Oakley.   For more information, call (925) 625-7044 or email  coelho@ci.oakley.ca.us.
