Oakley Memorial Day Observance This Saturday!
|
The City of Oakley will hold its sixth Annual Memorial Day Observance Ceremony this Saturday, May 27th, 2017 at the Civic Center Park, 3231 Main Street beginning at 10:30 a.m. Oakley's program will include the Presentation of Colors, a performance by the Freedom High School Choir, a student decoration of the memorial wreath, three -volley salute, taps, and more. We hope to see you there!

Park Water Spray Features Activated This Weekend
|
The City of Oakley Parks Division will activate its water spray features beginning this Saturday, May 27, 2017.
A multiple water spray feature is located at Nunn-Wilson Family Park and a smaller water spray feature is located Creekside Park. The park water spray features will be open seven (7) days a week, 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., from Memorial Day weekend continuing through Labor Day.

 The Oakley Union Elementary School District choir and the Oakley School Kika Ukelele Club presented: Disney Medley Magic in the Spring last Friday at the Civic Center Plaza amphitheater. Families and friends were treated to a selection of favorite Disney tunes by these talented young singers, led by Choir Director Shannon Page. More than 250 people turned out to enjoy the concert, followed by a reception.

The audience was treated to many talented acts at the Oakley Youth Advisory Council's 1st Annual Talent Show last Saturday during the Relay For Life Event! The first place winners was the group NWE, a trio featuring their outstanding dance moves. Second place was awarded to Alena Castillo who dazzled us with her singing abilities and third place went to Daisy Viveros, who showed her graceful dance talent. All performers did a wonderful job!

At the Tuesday, May 23rd Meeting of the City Council/City Council Acting as Successor Agency to the Redevelopment Agency Meeting the Council:- Welcomed Eve Monzon, a Vintage Parkway Elementary student to lead the pledge of allegiance
- Recognized May 21-May 27 as "National Public Works Week" in Oakley
- Honored the 2017 Oakley Youth Advisory Council for the many hours of volunteer service provided to the community in support of family friendly events and fun recreational opportunities

Oakley Skate Park Receives New Equipment
|
 The Oakley Skate Park is being enhanced with the addition of new equipment. The Parks and Landscape Division installed a street grind box, 4' skate barrier, flat kinked grind rail, 10' flat grind rail, and a street ledge. The new amenities were requested by skateboarders using the park. Jesse Dela Cruz, Parks and Landscape Superintendent said, "The new features are a welcomed addition, and will be utilized by skateboarders for both enjoyment and furthering their skills". He added, "The new equipment is geared for all skill levels to use."

Public Works Week Highlights
|
 The City of Oakley celebrated Public Works Week on Thursday by inviting students from Oakley elementary schools to learn about the world of public works and the importance of its role in our comm unity. Highlights of the event included different booths that the kids had an opportunity to explore including a booth on traffic, engineering and inspections, street maintenance and information on clean water and water conservation. They even got to watch some heavy equipment demonstrations as well as, a presentation on pedestrian safety. Visit our Flickr to see more great pictures of the event!

Now Accepting Library Commission Applications

 The term of the current appointee to the Contra Costa County Library Commission will expire June 30, 2017. The City of Oakley is accepting applications for an appointee and an alternate for the next two-year term until Monday, June 19, 2017 at 6pm. Click here for an application. Applicants will be considered by the Oakley City Council on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at its regularly scheduled meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall located at 3231 Main Street, Oakley, California.
