City of Oakley Seeks ECCFPD Representatives 
The City of Oakley is seeking applications from Oakley residents who would like to serve as the City's representative on the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District (ECCFPD) Board. Two seats on the Board are available. The terms will commence when the Oakley City Council appoints the Board members and will expire in November 2018 when the Board moves from appointed members to an elected Board. Appointees serve at the will and pleasure of the City Council.

All applications are public record. It is anticipated that appointments will be considered by the Oakley City Council on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 during the City Council meeting scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at 3231 Main Street, Oakley, California. All applicants are encouraged to attend the May 23rd meeting to be interviewed.

Main Street Revitalization- Night Contruction  
As part of the Main Street Revitalization Project, night-time work will be performed next week on Main Street from Norcross Lane to 5th Street.  Main Street will be closed 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Thursday, May 11th through Friday, May 12th.  Notification flyers will be distributed to all properties along the project route.  

Sixth Annual Memorial Day Observance Ceremony  
The City of Oakley will hold its sixth Annual Memorial Day Observance Ceremony on Saturday, May 27th, 2017 at the Civic Center Park, 3231 Main Street beginning at 10:30 a.m. Oakley's program will include the Presentation of Colors, performance from the Freedom High School Choir, a student decoration of the memorial wreath, 3-volley salute, taps, and more!
 
The event's Memorial Day address will be delivered by Nathan Johnson, USMC Veteran. Sergeant Nathan Johnson served in the Marine Corps as an intelligence analyst with 1st Marine Regiment at Camp Pendleton, CA. After September 11, 2001, Sgt. Johnson deployed to Pakistan with 1st Battalion, 4th Marines where he supported Operation Enduring Freedom, and again on January 17, 2003, where he crossed the border into Iraq with Regimental Combat Team 1 in combat operations to defeat the Iraqi Army, Iraqi Republican Guard, and the Saddam Fedayeen. Since his completion of duty in the Marine Corps, Johnson currently serves as the Contra Costa County Veterans Service Officer. His office assists Veterans and their dependents in applying for federal and state Veteran's benefits.

Water Spray Features Open Memorial Day Weekend 
The City of Oakley Parks Division will activate its water spray features beginning Saturday, May 27, 2017.
 
A multiple water spray feature is located at Nunn-Wilson Family Park and a smaller water spray feature is located Creekside Park. The park water spray features will be open seven (7) days a week, 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., from Memorial Day weekend continuing through Labor Day.
 
A self-activated button is located at each splash pad and will engage the system's spray feature and run for approximately three minutes. The water spray features are free and provide great fun for the kids, especially on hot summer days.
 
Water Spray Feature Rules and Conduct include:
  • Children should be supervised by an adult
  • No animals
  • No running, pushing, or rough play
  • No skateboarding or bicycling
  • Play safe and be courteous
  • Don't waste water
All park visitors are encouraged to keep a watchful eye. If you see any safety issue within a park, please call the City of Oakley immediately at 625-7000 or the Oakley Police Dispatch at 625-8060.
