City Council Meeting Debrief

At the Tuesday, February 14th Meeting of the City Council/City Council Acting as Successor Agency to the Redevelopment Agency meeting the Council:
  • Welcomed Alaysia Scales and Derek Roy, O'Hara Park Middle School 6th and 7th grader students, to lead the pledge of allegiance.
  • Adopted an ordinance approving new amendments to Oakley's Municipal Code regarding Accessory Dwelling Units necessary to comply with recent changes to State Law (SB 1069 & AB 2299)
  • Approved the posting of sign prohibiting the parking of trucks over seven feet in height on certain streets throughout the City. Large tractor trailer trucks being parked on the streets, rather than in designated truck parking areas, causes a number of potential problems, including: blocking sight lines, interfering with turning movements, obstructing views of traffic control signs and devices, and becoming a visual blight.

Engage in Oakley Movie Survey
Have you had a chance to fill out the Summer Movie in the Plaza question on  Engage in Oakley? The City of Oakley's Recreation Services Division would like your input on what movies should be shown during the 2017 Movies in the Plaza series. The series features one FREE movie a month from May to October to be shown at the Oakley Civic Center Amphitheater after dark. Lindsey Bruno, City of Oakley Recreation Manager says, "I look forward to hearing from the community what movies they want to see and to another summer of Movies in the Plaza."

To take the survey visit Engage in Oakley and select the movies you would like attend or make a suggestion on what movies you would like to enjoy at the plaza with your friends and family. Keep in mind that while we do our best to honor the top picks, licensing restrictions play a role in the ultimate movie selections. We also try to avoid playing past featured movies.

The survey will be closed on February 24th so that we can start booking the movies and dates with the licensing company and include the events in the Recreation Guide. For more information about the Movies on the Plaza series please contact the Recreation Division at 925-625-7041.
Oakley Very Important Business Program
The City of Oakley understands the positive impact that local businesses have on the community. The Economic Development program works to help existing Oakley businesses grow and succeed. Starting in March, the City is launching the Oakley VIB Program to promote local businesses and gain a better understanding of their needs.

Through the program, Economic Development staff will visit local companies each month. The purpose of the visits is to learn more about what is important to businesses and their industry. By learning more about the business, Economic Development can better address their needs and issues.

The second goal of the VIB Program is to promote local businesses to the greater Oakley community. Each business that is visited will be featured on the City Economic Development webpage with pictures, video and a narrative about the business.

Interested businesses should call the City Economic Development Manager at (925) 625-7006 or email at dalman@ci.oakley.ca.us.
