Annual Ballfield Renovations to Begin
|
The City of Oakley Parks and Landscape Division has finally begun their annual preparation of ball fields for spring and summer use. Prolonged heavy rains this month have delayed the work.
The fields at Laurel Ballfields Park, Summer Lake Park, Creekside Park, Cypress Park, Magnolia Park, and Shady Oak Park will receive some as-needed repairs and improvements.
The renovations include worn turf to be removed and new sod installed, dirt buildup along turf edges removed and base paths straightened, clay added to the pitching areas and batters boxes, skinned infields graded and scarified, and new infield mix added, spread, compacted and dragged.
Jesse Dela Cruz, Oakley Parks and Landscape Foreman said, "The annual renovations greatly enhance the safety and playability of the fields."
Use of the infields will not be permitted (tentatively) through February 13th. Individuals and teams should not be playing on the ball fields while the new sod is taking root. Signage is posted noting the closures.

Message From Chief Thorsen- Winter Driving
|
We have been blessed with the return of local winter rain and snow in the mountains. In Northern California, the folks that track such things, have officially declared the drought over! These wet conditions, though welcome, create hazards for all of us as we drive.
Simply put, when the roads are wet, your tires do not grip the road surface as well. Your vehicle will not hold a turn or stop as efficiently on wet roads as it will on dry pavement. During periods of heavy rain, or when there is standing water on the roadway, a condition known as hydroplaning can occur. When this happens, the tires on your car are "floating" on top of the water, thus you can't control the car.

YMWO Hosts Another Successful Citizenship Drive
|
You, Me, We Oakley! hosted a Citizenship Drive last Saturday in the Oakley Council Chambers. With the assistance of 10 volunteers, YMWO screened a total of 37 people for eligibility to continue in the Naturalization process and of those, 19 were assisted in completing the N-400 application. Further assistance with fee waivers and reviewing the application before submittal will be provided by YMWO's legal partner, the International Institute of the Bay Area. The next Drive is expected to take place in April.
