Christmas Tree Lighting Recap
|
The City of Oakley held its annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony this past Saturday, December 3rd! An estimated 2000+ guests joined us to enjoy festive music, holiday decorations and visits with Santa. Performances by the Oakley Elementary School District and the Freedom High School Choirs set the mood for the evening, singing their renditions of holiday favorites. Students from the Keep in Time Dance Academy, along with the East County Performing Arts Academy, provided additional entertainment throughout the evening in their colorful costumes. A number of local non-profit organizations had booths with crafts, activities and giveaways for the children. The festive holiday decorations provided for great photo opportunities throughout the Park. Miss Contra Costa County Outstanding Teen 2017, Maya Gaskin, visited with guests and posed for photos. Our special guest for the evening was Santa Claus, taking time out of his busy schedule to hear children's wish lists and pose for family photos. Guests joined us to count down to light the grand 30' tree at which time snow began to fall in Oakley!

Landscape Improvement Endeavors Heightened
|
During the winter and early spring season, the City of Oakley Parks and Landscape Division takes advantage of the slower maintenance season to make numerous landscape improvements throughout the City in advance of next year's growing season.
The City and contracted maintenance services workers use the opportunity to replace dead, dying/ failing, damaged; or missing plants, trees, and shrubs in existing landscaping.
Additionally, some renovations will include entire areas of old landscaping being replaced with new, which usually include irrigation changes for the lowering of water usage.
