Out of the Darkness Walk, TOMORROW
|
Want to help raise awareness and support work that prevents suicides? Don't forget, the Annual Out of the Darkness Walk is tomorrow, Saturday, October 8th at Cypress Grove Community Park located at 4001 Frank Hengel Way.
Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the walk at 9:00 a.m. To register, donate, or to learn more, please click here. Participating walkers and donors will increase local awareness about depression and suicide, as well as help support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's advocacy for mental health issues, assistance of survivors, and vital research and education programs aimed at preventing suicide and saving lives.

Hometown Halloween Decorating Contest
|
The Recreation Division invites you to enter our 2nd Annual Halloween Decorating Contest! Dig up those spider webs, ghosts, and goblins to decorate the front of your house and submit a digital photo, along with an entry form.
Participants must reside in Oakley. The contest is limited to private residences - no businesses. Decorations must be limited to the front of your house, yard, and roof (no interior or back yards, please).
Entry forms are available at www.oakleyinfo.com.
The entry deadline is October 13th at 5:00 p.m. Voting will take place on the City's website October 17-21st. The winner will be announced on Monday, October 24th. The winner will receive a sign to display in their front yard along with a gift card valued at $100.

The City of Oakley has over 700 small businesses. The growth and sustainability of these businesses is critical, as they will provide future local jobs and occupy Oakley shopping centers. In an effort to support these business towards long-term success, the City's Economic Development Division established the Entrepreneur Training Program.
For the last two years, Oakley Economic Development has sponsored this 11-week program for existing Oakley businesses or Oakley residents serious about starting up a new business. The class is designed to walk students through the creation of a business plan, in order to help them gain the tools needed to successfully establish or grow a business.
Interested? Please attend one of three upcoming informational sessions to learn more. Informational sessions will be held on October 13th, November 9th, and December 6th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at City Hall, located at 3231 Main Street.

Save the Date- Harvest Festival will be Oct. 15th
|
The City of Oakley will host the Annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 15th from Noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Civic Center Plaza, located at 3231 Main Street. Join us for this family-friendly event with lots of fun and seasonal activities. Admission and parking is FREE. Children, adults, and even our canine friends are invited to come in costume and march in one of the two parades through the park. Participants will each get a goody bag at the end of the parade. Guests are encouraged to decorate a pumpkin at home and bring it to enter in the pumpkin decorating contest. Read more...

Military Hero Essay Contest

We all know men and women who have served in the military. They are people we admire, look up to and respect for the sacrifices they have made and for the courage they demonstrate on and off the battle field. The City of Oakley invites you to tell us about your military hero.
The essay contest is open to all K-12 students that reside in Oakley. There will be one winner in each of the corresponding categories K-5th grade, 6th-8th grade, and 9th-12th grade. K-5th grade students are invited to submit a drawing with a caption, while 6th-12th grade students are to submit 300-500 typewritten words. To qualify please submit a completed essay and entry form to marquez@ci.oakley.ca.us by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2016.

Under the direction of the Public Works Director/City Engineer, this individual will be responsible for performing a variety of technical field and office related engineering work associated with construction inspection activities on assigned public works projects. Duties include overseeing consultants and participating in inspecting the construction, repair, and/or alteration work on assigned projects; oversees and conducts field sampling and testing of construction materials; analyzes and interprets lab results and writes test reports; meets and confers with representatives of utility companies, contractors, engineers, and other public agencies regarding construction plans and specifications; investigates and attempts to resolve citizen complaint etc.
Some of the duties will range from leading participants in arts and crafts, sports, games, homework tutorials, and recreational activities, answering questions from the public, helping to plan and coordinate events, assist with set up as well as serving as a role model. Among the primary requirements are that you be 18 years of age or older, have a driver's license, available to work nights and evenings and can lift 50 pounds or more.
