Measure K Falls Short of Necessary Votes
Thank you to all the residents who voted this past election. Oakley residents had an opportunity to weigh in regarding Measure K, which required a majority of votes cast be in support for its passage. The votes fell short, at 53.5% yes and 46.5% no. We thank the committee of residents who demonstrated a tremendous love for Oakley and vision, having invested over a year and a half in developing a proposal and an thoughtful campaign. While the existing community library is still inadequate, the City and County library system will continue to make the most our current situation and work around constraints in service to our residents.

Marsh Creek Glenn Park to Receive 1/2 Basketball Court
Construction on an asphalt half-basketball court located at Marsh Creek Glenn Park is anticipated to begin in late June, with work to be completed by July 15th. The basketball court addition is a result of requests from residents for a ½ basketball court, as well as the associated complaints regarding people putting portable baskets out in the street to play. The court will be located on the east side of the park and can be used for practice, pick-up games, or other recreational activities. Mayor Kevin Romick noted, "This will be a nice addition to the neighborhood park."
Free Wi-Fi to Be Tested in Two Oakley Parks
The Oakley Parks and Landscape Division is looking to install free public Wi-Fi capability in the Creekside and Civic Center parks. The addition of Wi-Fi in the parks will allow people more and better connectivity to keep tabs on their busy lives while enjoying the serenity of the park, participating in activities, or watching their children play. A system is currently being tested and its anticipated availability will be made to park visitors by July 1st. Users will be able to gain Wi-Fi access when they use a wireless device within about 200 feet of a hot spot located in the two park locations.
Sign and Landscaping to Enliven Main Street and Big Break Road Corner
A new two-directional sided sign and landscaping will soon greet people at the northeast corner of Main Street and Big Break Road. The project is a collaborative effort between the City of Oakley and East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD). Mayor Kevin Romick said, "In continuing beautification efforts throughout the community, Big Break is recognized as one of Oakley's jewels you might say - a facility Oakley residents take pride in, so bringing greater attention to the Regional Park for residents and visitors seemed logical."
