MEASURE K: Oakley Library and Community Learning Center Informational Meeting
The City of Oakley in partnership with the Contra Costa County Library, invites the public to an informational meeting to learn more about Measure K. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 3rd 2016 and again on Tuesday, May 17th in the City Council Chambers located at 3231 Main Street, Oakley beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Oakley's community library is currently located at Freedom High School, occupying 3,000 square feet. After seventeen years, the temporary arrangement of sharing space is now inadequate limiting both the Community and student's access to needed resources. The collection, technology, programs, space, and parking are all lacking at this location.

The City Council has approved placing a proposition on the June 7, 2016 ballot asking voters if they support a new downtown Oakley Library and Community Learning Center. Approval of the ballot measure will result in $7.75 in additional tax, per month, per parcel over a thirty year period. For more information and the full ballot language click here.

Oakley Police Department Swearing In Ceremony
The City of Oakley incorporated in 1999. At that time, the City entered into a
contractual agreement with the Office of the Sheriff for law enforcement services.
In June of 2015, the leadership of the City of Oakley opted to move forward with
establishing our own police department. Effective May 6th, the City of Oakley Police Department will officially assume responsibility for policing our community. The Police Department will begin operations with an authorized strength of 29 sworn personnel and seven professional support staff positions.

There will be a ceremonial swearing in of the new Police Department on Tuesday May 10th at 6:00 p.m. The ceremony will take place prior to the regular meeting of the Oakley City Council. Members of the public, family and friends are invited to attend this historic event.

Science Week Recap
The 15th Annual Oakley Science Week drew records crowds last week with popular workshops from previous years like the Reptile Kingdom and Lego Engineering.  New workshops were added this year including  "We Speak For The Trees" which was hosted by the Oakley Youth Advisory Council and based on lessons from Dr. Seuss's "The Lorax". Another new program was the "Taking Flight" workshop that had children building and decorating kites while learning about the topics of gravity and lift. More than 1200 people participated in the program this year.  The City of Oakley wishes to thank our partners including the Friends of Marsh Creek Watershed, the Delta Science Center, the East Bay Regional Park District, the Ironhouse Sanitary District and the Oakley Union Elementary School District.
