Oakley Parks Spray Fountains Will Not Operate This Summer
|
The spray fountain features at Nunn-Wilson Family Park and Creekside Park, along with the individual spray feature poles at Shady Oak Park and Cypress Grove Park will be CLOSED this summer season due to continued drought conditions.
Last year Governor Jerry Brown proclaimed a State of Emergency and issued an Executive Order due to the severe California drought conditions. The State Water Resources Control Board quickly followed with the adoption of expanded emergency regulations and prohibited water uses. Despite recent rains, many southern California reservoirs remain low, and the State Water Resources Control Board has extended the emergency regulations to remain in effect through October 2016.
Kevin Rohani, City Engineer/Public Works Director, said "It's unfortunate, but much of California remains in a serious drought and the City must comply with the statewide water use restrictions to conserve water."

2016 Outstanding Youth Volunteer Winners
|
The Oakley Youth Advisory Council created the Outstanding Youth Volunteer Award to celebrate youth who make a positive impact in Oakley. "There were many nominations highlighting youth in the community who are making Oakley a happier, more welcoming and connected community, which made selecting three winners a difficult task." indicated Recreation Manager, Lindsey Bruno. This year the Youth Advisory Council selected three deserving individuals who are working to make Oakley a better place; Andres Orozco, Jasmin Pinzon and Sharlotte Omoletski. The Oakley Youth Advisory Council will present the Awards at the April 12th City Council Meeting.
