Topic:  Downtown Main Street Streetscape Project
Come learn about the Downtown Main Street Streetscape Project planned for this summer. The project will improve Main Street from Norcross to Second Street in phase one. The goal of the project is to create a pedestrian-friendly environment with sidewalks, landscaping, crosswalks as well as new curbs, gutters and medians.
Oakley Residents Offered Free Wood Chips to Assist with Continuing Drought Conditions
Wood chips are available for pick-up Saturday, March 26, 2016, 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. at the City Yard at the corner of Neroly Road and Main Street (entrance on Neroly). Oakley residents need to bring their own tools/shovels and bags/containers to load and carry the mulch, and a tarp to cover if necessary. Residents are asked to not take more than 5 yards at a time.

The wood chips are from trees pruned and/or removed from the Oakley/Brentwood area. The chips are organic and coarse, and mixed with leaves and twigs, and the quality varies. It is not like the commercial bark products you purchase from a landscape store, but provides the same benefits.

Landscape Improvements Completed at Two Parks
The City of Oakley Parks and Landscape Division finished smaller landscape enhancement projects at two neighborhood parks.

Nunn-Wilson Family Park received renovation to the irrigation and landscaping along Oxford Drive. The work included installing drought tolerant trees and shrubs, walk-on bark, and in-fill of missing or dead plants. Jesse Dela Cruz, Parks and Landscape Foreman said, "The result is a much more pleasing landscape frontage, a reduction in maintenance, and a savings of water."

With the completion of the small subdivision adjoining Cedar Glenn Drive, and as a condition of the development, a mini-parcel was given to the City that is contiguous to Shady Oak Park. A sidewalk, a small amount of turf, drought tolerant trees and shrubs, and walk-on bark were installed at the newly added parcel. Several bollards still need to be installed and a bench and picnic table may be added at a future date.
